00:01This is Project Runway.
00:03Let's go!
00:04Hell yes, I'm the best.
00:05You're either in or you're out.
00:07I'm in, they're out.
00:09I will be caught dead in his clothes.
00:11Fashion is my life.
00:12Who will be the next big fashion designer?
00:14That's me.
00:15Bottom line, I'm the best.
00:17I will own the runway.
00:19For these 15 designers, Project Runway is a chance of a lifetime.
00:30My name is Rami Cashew.
00:32I was born in the city of Jerusalem, and I have my own studio in Los Angeles.
00:38I worked with Jessica Alba, and she awarded this to the Video Music Awards, which still gets pressed today.
00:44I think that Project Runway can introduce my work to a larger audience.
00:49Hi, I'm Chris.
00:50Nice to meet you.
00:51How are you?
00:52Nice to meet you.
00:53Welcome.
00:54Well, thanks.
00:55My name is Chris March.
00:57I've worked as a costume designer for almost 20 years.
01:01I am the go-to person in New York City for the larger-than-life costume.
01:05You never know what that phone call's gonna be.
01:08Like, can you make us outfits out of solid ingredients?
01:12Well, sure.
01:14And I have.
01:18Chris.
01:19Hi.
01:20Nice to meet you.
01:21My name's Christian Siriano, and I'm 21 years old.
01:25I was accepted into a university in London, where I was able to work with huge, amazing designers.
01:32Alexander McQueen, Vivian Westwood.
01:34I'm kind of fierce, and I'm kind of a celebrity in my own head.
01:39These are beds.
01:40And I sleep on the floor at home, so I guess that's good.
01:43Thank you, too.
01:44I'd rather buy clothes than buy a bed.
01:46My name is Carmen A. Weber.
01:52I used to model, and I've been very fortunate that I have modeled for so long, because people could be fantastic designers, but if you haven't modeled, you don't know the first thing.
02:02And I'm really excited that I can bring that to the plate in anything that I do in fashion.
02:07Love the outfit.
02:08Little cool art action going on.
02:10That's hot.
02:11My name is Jillian Lewis, and I have been working as an illustrator and a designer for Ralph Lauren.
02:17It is a wonderful learning experience, but it's not my dream to be contributing to someone else's vision.
02:25I am here to get to the final three, and I am not going home.
02:32I love that we got you first.
02:34Me, too.
02:36All right, I'm going to start unpacking my bathroom stuff, too.
02:39Cool, cool.
02:40I don't want those girls taking up my space.
02:42Hello.
02:44Hi.
02:46My name is Kit.
02:47Kit.
02:48And my name is Jillian.
02:49Oh, me, too.
02:50Yeah, we're just kind of like camping out the man, girl.
02:55I just designed a jean collection, K Jeans by Kevin Christiana.
03:00It was on the cover of Victoria's Secret, but I didn't want to do the jean thing anymore.
03:04I wanted to get back to tailoring and collection-oriented design.
03:07I just, I like style, and there's actually a lot more straight designers out there now
03:12than there was in the back of the day.
03:14I had to bring that up because I'm, you know, such a tough guy.
03:17I'm Jack.
03:18Good luck.
03:19You, too, man.
03:21We'll probably hate each other by the end of the show.
03:24Hello.
03:25Hi.
03:26I'm Steve.
03:27Kevin.
03:28Nice to meet you, man.
03:29Nice to meet you.
03:30I work at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.
03:33I end up sewing a lot for various exhibits.
03:36I always had an interest in art in one way or another.
03:39I also like to draw quite a bit from life whenever possible.
03:43Damn, I wish I could remember this guy's phone number.
03:47Did you audition last season?
03:48Yeah.
03:49Yeah.
03:50I was like number 16 out of 15, so I thought, what the hell, we'll give it another run this
03:54year.
03:55My name is Elisa Jimenez.
03:56I'm an accidental fashion designer.
03:57I make marionettes that are three inches to 30 feet high.
04:02I actually started being involved in fashion when I started making costumes in order to perform
04:17with the marionettes.
04:18So it's just another discipline and an art lifestyle that I already do.
04:23I actually totally envisioned, like, doing all my yoga in a space about that thing.
04:27I've been practicing at home.
04:29David.
04:30Marion.
04:31Nice to meet you.
04:32Kevin.
04:33Nice to meet you.
04:34Hey, how are you?
04:35Hi.
04:36Hi.
04:37You guys are my roommates, I guess?
04:38Yes.
04:39Sweet Pea.
04:40The name Sweet Pea came from the period of my life when I was in an all-girl motorcycle
04:51club.
04:52Two years ago, I started a business, it kind of took off, and I'm currently actually out
04:58of money for my business, so I definitely see Project Runway as a make it or break it
05:03opportunity.
05:04This is Sweet Pea.
05:05That's you.
05:06That looks like you.
05:07Hopefully you all know.
05:08What does it say?
05:09Oh, there's a letter.
05:10You're welcome.
05:11Diviners.
05:12We hope you enjoy the new Gotham apartment.
05:13Please meet us at Bryan Park.
05:14Heidi and Tim.
05:15Yay.
05:16We're already on our way to Bryan Park.
05:20We're already on our way to Bryan Park.
05:37I'm Simone LeBlanc.
05:38I have an honest vision that comes from the heart and a vision that I believe in and that
05:47is unique.
05:48I felt a great connection walking into Bryan Park.
05:51this is where Fashion Week happens and all of the creativity and the excitement and careers
05:56are made and it was really great to be there.
05:58And I know I'll be there again.
06:01Woo!
06:02Cheers to the adventure.
06:03Woo!
06:04Woo!
06:05Woo!
06:06Woo!
06:07Woo!
06:08Woo!
06:09Woo!
06:10My name is Marion Lee.
06:11I own a flower shop in Dallas, Texas.
06:13and I design clothes out of my flower shop now.
06:16I hope that Project Runway will be a catalyst to get me back into fashion much more than what
06:23I'm doing right now.
06:24Leading after this whole experience has been like anxiety one minute and then you're excited
06:30the next minute.
06:31I've spent a lot of my career really working for other designers.
06:35I think it's a great opportunity for me to finally show my own individual creative
06:41vision.
06:42My name is Victoria Hong.
06:44I was born in Korea.
06:46I moved to the United States when I was three.
06:48I've always been very competitive by nature.
06:51I've always been an overachiever.
06:53It's my birthday!
06:54Happy birthday!
06:55Happy birthday!
06:56Gemini!
06:57Yeah!
06:58Kit Pistol is kind of like my Mark Twain.
07:01It's an alias.
07:03My ultimate goal in fashion is to have my own line.
07:06I believe that the clothing that you wear represents who you are and life is too short
07:11to have on a bad outfit.
07:13I can't believe this.
07:14It's Project Runway and I'm on it.
07:17It's crazy.
07:18I came from a family of 14.
07:21We lived in a two bedroom house.
07:23We were poor.
07:24I wanted to come to New York and be a dancer and I landed into the fashion industry.
07:29One thing led to another and I launched my own lingerie line.
07:33It's really a deep thing for me, this whole experience.
07:36It's not just a game.
07:39It's, it's, it's my life.
07:42It's like I'm scared and am I going to be good enough for this competition?
07:49Hello everyone.
07:50Welcome.
07:51Hi.
07:52Can I please have all of you gather around?
07:57All of a sudden Heidi Klum shows up looking fabulous along with Tim Gunn.
08:02Welcome to Bryant Park, home to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.
08:06At the end of the competition, three of you will earn the right to show your collections here.
08:12Next to me is Tim Gunn.
08:15Aw, thank you Heidi.
08:16He's the Chief Creative Officer of Liz Claiborne, Inc.
08:19And he's going to be your mentor while you're here.
08:24Welcome everyone.
08:25The 15 of you have been selected from a huge and extremely talented pool of designers from across the country.
08:32So congratulations.
08:34Each season on Project Runway, we raise the bar.
08:37Last year's designers were the strongest yet.
08:40But I have to tell you, I'm confident that you are the strongest group ever.
08:47Good luck.
08:48Are you settled into your new apartments at New Gotham?
08:51Gotham City's luxury apartment building?
08:53Yes.
08:54Yes.
08:55It's pretty nice, no?
08:56Sure.
08:57Have you all enjoyed your champagne?
08:58Yeah.
08:59Because the party is over.
09:04Do you want to hear about your first challenge?
09:06Yes.
09:07Sure, please.
09:08Tim?
09:09In past seasons of Project Runway, the first challenge has been to create an outfit using unconventional materials such as groceries, home furnishings.
09:19But we're not going to do that this time.
09:21If you look across the lawn, there are three tents.
09:25You must use these tents as a raw material to create an outfit that expresses who you are as a designer.
09:34The tents looked like really, really cheap plastic fabric.
09:38And I was like, oh God, I don't want to make something out of this cheap white crap.
09:41Don't despair.
09:42Don't despair.
09:43Those tents are constructed out of $50,000 worth of premium textiles donated by Mood Fabrics.
09:51I was so stoked because to be able to use really fine fabrics and make anything I wanted to make is really great.
10:00When Heidi says go, you'll have 10 minutes to grab fabric from the tents.
10:05Then we'll head back to Parsons where you'll have until 1 a.m. to construct your designs.
10:10I love that you took your shoes off.
10:11Ready?
10:12Go!
10:13Happy birthday.
10:14Woo!
10:16I haul ass.
10:17I run like a Mexican running to the border.
10:31I can see in the middle of the tent, there's this amazing plaid fabric.
10:36I know I want it.
10:38I totally like beeline for the plaid that I saw in the middle.
10:44I wasn't fast enough because Kevin beat me to the fabric.
10:47I don't know.
10:50I ran the slowest and everybody else was going in this frenzy.
10:55Like crazy sharks.
10:59It was pretty crazy.
11:00It was chaotic.
11:01You feel like you have, you know, five seconds to grab all the fabrics and you feel like you need more just in case.
11:08I started pulling really anything I could get my hands on that was visually stunning to me because I just didn't want to run out.
11:16Of course, I got there last.
11:17But the funny thing was, exactly what I wanted just happened to be hanging there and nobody else chose it.
11:25Oh my God!
11:26You have five minutes.
11:28I was a whore.
11:29I just grabbed a little fabrics.
11:34I ended up taking some silk chiffon and I decided that I would imbue it with a natural element and use grass stain as a staining method.
11:46With my own work, I oftentimes use teas and oils and herbs to feed the fabrics.
11:52Elisa might be a little off her block, but I'm kind of curious to see what all comes of it.
12:01Everybody, time's up.
12:04We're headed over to Parsons.
12:06Okay?
12:07So follow me.
12:08I was pretty freaked out because we have so much work ahead of us.
12:13Look what stays behind.
12:14Aw!
12:15Bigfoot.
12:17Coming up on Project Runway.
12:19Looks like you have a lot of finishing to do.
12:21I do.
12:23You're in the dress form?
12:24Yeah.
12:25It's very spiritual the way you do it.
12:27She's a little strange.
12:37Walking into the design room and seeing the mannequin, it was so surreal and exciting and fabulous.
12:42I loved it.
12:45For this challenge, we needed to show what our point of view was and what a great first challenge.
12:49It was like $50,000 worth of fabrics from Mood.
12:52Basically, you get a chance to prove yourself right off the bat.
12:55I'm serious.
12:56This is who I am.
12:57This is what I'm doing.
13:00Hi, everybody.
13:01Remember Heidi's words.
13:03This challenge is about showing who you are as a designer.
13:07You have until 1 a.m. tonight to complete your design.
13:11So, in our Project Runway tradition, make it work.
13:18All right?
13:19I'll see you later.
13:22I definitely like the blues really, like, friendly.
13:24Yeah.
13:25No, I think the blue is the charm with this print.
13:26It's pretty, so.
13:27The challenge is, who are you?
13:31I mean, that's like a philosophical question.
13:33Designers try to hash out through the entirety of their careers.
13:40This is so overwhelming.
13:41It's like a smorgasbord.
13:44Ricky, did you finally pick what you're going to use?
13:47I really didn't need any of it.
13:49I decided to do a baby doll dress, but I wanted to give the impression of lingerie because it is my background.
13:56All right, all right, all right.
13:57All right.
13:58I was a cheerleader when I was, like, in high school.
13:59You were.
14:00I was such a queen.
14:02I'm doing pieces that have a romantic historical sensibility to them.
14:08The fabrics are a great mix of kind of the old and the new.
14:13I love to drape.
14:15I love to mix something that is feminine with something that is edgy.
14:20Really, I want to grab all the elements that are my signature pieces and create this dress that perfectly represents me for today.
14:26Does anyone know what time it is?
14:28Oh, it's not even two.
14:33I have a tendency to be more toward the edge of avant-garde, so I wanted to create a mythical gown.
14:44So I decided to create a cascade, almost like water or, like, magic falling out of the back.
14:51I found that, like, on your body.
14:53Yeah.
14:54You're the dress form?
14:56Yeah.
14:57I think we were all taking a look at what she was doing because it's so different than everyone else.
15:03You sew it right onto a person?
15:05Yeah.
15:06It's very spiritual the way you do it.
15:08It's shocking.
15:11Alisa, she reminds me of a rain goddess woman.
15:16She's, like, all spiritual and in the Himalayan mountains.
15:22She's a little strange.
15:24Oh, my gosh.
15:27At first, I felt like the time was okay.
15:29And then what happens is the time just starts to slip away from me.
15:33Let's see what this is going to become.
15:36I kind of have this tendency to grab at these, like, really bright, exciting colors.
15:40But, in the end, it has to be something of elegance and something that's sophisticated.
15:47I think, at first, my clothes come off as a little bit bizarre.
15:51But I'm hoping the judges are going to recognize that I stand apart.
15:55But I fear that they might be a little bit confused.
16:00I'd say that my style is probably more classic.
16:04I like to keep things very simple, very pared down.
16:08Does anybody have a pinking shoe with, like, a larger zigzag?
16:14Yeah, that'll do it.
16:16Jack, to save the day, you're the superhero.
16:20You look like one, too.
16:21Yeah, did you see his abs?
16:22I'm in the room, people.
16:31Hi, everybody.
16:32It seems very intense in here.
16:34And fabric-filled.
16:37So, Rami, how are you?
16:39I'm good.
16:40Just wanted to freestyle today.
16:43It's stunning.
16:45It's stunning.
16:47Definitely, I think, Rami's competition.
16:49But I do think he did a piece that so many other designers do.
16:54Carry on.
16:55I will.
16:56Good.
16:59Christian, how are you?
17:01Hi.
17:02This top, it's not symmetrical.
17:04You've been so meticulous about this matching.
17:07And then, as it fans out, it doesn't at all.
17:10Right, that wasn't the point.
17:12I didn't even attempt it at all.
17:14I know.
17:15Like, there was no...
17:16I can tell.
17:17But I mean, that wasn't the...
17:18I can tell.
17:19But you can tell where I did mean to do it.
17:21I mean, it could be fine.
17:22The judges could be fine with it.
17:24I just, I have an obligation to you to tell you how I'm feeling about it.
17:27Yeah.
17:28Okay.
17:29Do you want me to make a new jacket?
17:30No.
17:31I think my jacket was really accomplished.
17:34And so far, what I've done, I feel, is something that I love.
17:38Simone, talk to me.
17:40I'm really into the color contrast I'm using.
17:42I think it kind of takes it out of something that feels more antiquated and brings it to
17:46a more modern feeling.
17:47What about this, though?
17:49This?
17:50Oh, yeah.
17:51Well, I could actually leave it untacked right here and tack this in.
17:54And it's gonna have a side zip.
17:55It just looks like you have a lot of finishing to do.
17:57I do.
17:58The top of my dress hasn't worked out quite in the way that I thought it would.
18:01And I lost my vision a little bit with it.
18:03And that totally freaks me out.
18:04Okay.
18:05You just have a lot of work to do.
18:07I know, but I'll get it done.
18:08Okay.
18:09I'm gonna leave you alone.
18:10Okay.
18:11I'm gonna leave you alone.
18:12Go to work.
18:13Go, go, go.
18:14So, Elisa.
18:15Yes.
18:16Talk to me.
18:17Well, I decided, since it was an expression of self, that I would start out first with
18:22something that I feel very akin to, which was the body shape, the form.
18:26So, from the front, it's very clean, very clear, very lovely.
18:29But it's revealed in the back, having it all rolled up and so that it would actually come
18:33untangled as she walks and she moves.
18:36Is that gonna work?
18:37In the past when I've tried it, it's kind of worked.
18:39This ending here, to me, seems really in opposition to the finish of this dress.
18:47You have to really be concerned with, did I take this as far as I needed to?
18:54Hmm.
18:55All right, thank you.
18:56Designers, you have until 1 a.m. to finish up your designs and I will see you in the morning.
19:09Carry on.
19:11Make it work.
19:13When Tim came in and saw that I was actually done with my dress, he felt that I had a lot of work to do.
19:19I don't want to make compromises.
19:20I want to be able to do my idea the way I planned it.
19:22For this particular piece, I think I'm gonna be, like, done.
19:24I was like, well, what do you mean you're done?
19:27Like, the edges aren't finished?
19:29She said, no, this is the way I want to show if it's done.
19:32She wants to sleep.
19:33That's exactly right.
19:34I'll be sleeping at some point.
19:35Oh, if you'd finished, do you get to go sleep?
19:38She was done and went and took a nice snooze, which all of us would have loved, but I don't
19:44think any of us had the time.
19:47We're all trying to finish without screwing things up too terribly bad.
19:53I'm so afraid what it's gonna look like on here.
19:56Make this work.
20:01How does my dress keep shrinking?
20:06I do love my design, but the technical side is not good.
20:09Tim said a lot of the completion of it relied on what I could do with the technical part of it.
20:14It can't be good and it can't be easy all the time.
20:16This is part of the process.
20:19Uh-oh.
20:20Looks like we've got ten minutes.
20:22Don't go into the fear box, people.
20:24Don't go into the fear box whenever I'm done.
20:27Did you have a good sleep?
20:28You were conked out.
20:30Did you dream about Project Runway?
20:32No.
20:33I was out like a complete, just like...
20:41Coming up on Project Runway.
20:42You have 15 minutes.
20:44I didn't have time to put in a zipper.
20:47I'm very anxious and I'm like, let's just get this going.
20:54Waking up and knowing it was judgment day, there was a lot of anxiety floating around at that moment.
20:59And nobody wants to be the first person off the show.
21:03Everybody's pretty much done or almost done.
21:06The three of us are in a much better situation than some other people.
21:10At least we haven't finished things.
21:20When Tim Gunn said, I'm really going to have to focus on my finishing, it is a real challenge for me to want to have to finish it, like make it look clean.
21:29Okay, let's go.
21:31Make it work.
21:41We left a little bit of a mess, I think.
21:44What's your bag doing?
21:46Stay a while.
21:48There's absolutely like a high pressure situation this morning where it's like, don't talk to me, don't touch my stuff, get out of my face, I need to get this done.
21:56I'm very nervous about the show today because I still have some finishing touches to add on my outfit and I'm terrified about the fit on the model because we haven't seen the model.
22:09Designers, can I ask you to gather around please?
22:13This is the day of our first runway show.
22:20So I want you to go in there and knock the judges' socks off.
22:26In just a few moments, I'm going to be sending in your models.
22:30You will have two hours to send them to the Tresemme hair salon and the L'Oreal Paris makeup room.
22:36And please think wisely about the bluefly.com accessories wall because it's phenomenal.
22:43All right.
22:44Okay.
22:45I love you, I mean it, please move.
22:47It's freak out time here, ladies and gentlemen.
22:51Who's Wendy?
22:52Hi Wendy.
22:53Katie.
22:54Hi Wendy.
22:55Nice to meet you.
22:56The models came in and we're trying to match up whose models is whose.
22:59She came over to me and she said, are you Chris?
23:01And I was like, hallelujah.
23:04This girl is gorgeous.
23:06I just wanted to try these on you really quickly.
23:09The models were more or less assigned to us.
23:12We weren't able to pick and choose.
23:14I was really, really happy with my model.
23:16What I need to do really quickly is hand measure you.
23:22Oh, it's a little face.
23:24I love the color.
23:25That's a good color.
23:26Glad to hear that.
23:27It feels London to me.
23:30I know.
23:31I love it.
23:32Okay.
23:33I love it.
23:34Good, good.
23:35My model loves my outfit and I love my outfit as well.
23:38I really just like want to prove myself now.
23:40I'm like kind of fired up.
23:44I just kind of want it like a little edgier.
23:47Yeah, it's a little too far.
23:52That's so cute.
23:58Designers and models.
24:00I just want you to know you have 15 minutes.
24:02There was quite a few of us working like right down to the last minute.
24:06Like do or die.
24:07It has to be done.
24:09You are going to get stitched into the dress.
24:13I didn't have time to put in a zipper.
24:15So once I put the dress on Lauren, I actually just physically sew the side seam onto her.
24:24Oh, I feel good in it.
24:26I'm very anxious and I'm like let's just get this going.
24:29Like let's just do this.
24:30This is what I've been working to.
24:32So let's do a test walk.
24:34Once I got my dress on my model, the sculptural quality of the dress literally tangled about her.
24:42I intuitively felt like maybe I should chop off about five feet of it for the walk down the runway.
24:49But I didn't do it.
24:50I think everyone.
24:52You do?
24:53I don't.
24:54I think there's some hand sewed crap up in here.
24:58All right, everybody.
25:00Are you ready for your big debut?
25:03Yeah.
25:05We're going right now.
25:06Okay.
25:07Follow me.
25:09Coming up on Project Runway.
25:11It's kind of boring.
25:13You're so dressed in the dark.
25:15Why is the construction so poor?
25:21Hello.
25:23Hi.
25:25Welcome to the runway.
25:26As you know in fashion, one day you're in and the next day you're out.
25:31There are 15 of you now.
25:33Three will make it to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, where one of you will be named the winner of Project Runway.
25:40The winner will receive a spread in Elle Magazine, an opportunity to sell their line on bluefly.com,
25:47an all-new 2008 Saturn Astra, and $100,000 to start their own line, furnished by Tresemme Professional Hair Care.
25:57For your first challenge, we asked you to create a garment that expresses who you are as a designer,
26:03and provided you with $50,000 of fabric to work with.
26:07Let's meet the judges.
26:08First, we have top American designer, Michael Kors.
26:13Hey, guys.
26:14Next, we have Nina Garcia, fashion director of Elle Magazine.
26:17Nice meeting you guys.
26:19And sitting across from you is our very special guest, acclaimed designer, Monique Lullier.
26:24Hello, everyone.
26:26We will score your designs as they come down the runway.
26:29The designer with the highest score will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
26:34Let's start the show.
26:46When the judges saw Lee come down the runway, she got tangled in the dress.
26:54What they saw was the thing I had feared the most.
26:57I know who I am as a designer, and I thought the outfit was just terrific.
27:07It had this high-quality feel and an elegance that I was after.
27:18I definitely like fitted, well-made, tailored clothing, but I like putting my little signature edge to it.
27:24I feel like I could definitely be one of the main competitors, definitely.
27:36This is a happy dress.
27:38Kristina smiled and did everything perfectly.
27:43I got a tear in my eye.
27:44I did have a little bit of hesitation, obviously, about the technical aspects that weren't up to par.
27:56But I felt like the design transcended that.
27:58I think I did a good job.
28:11The color of it was really exciting.
28:13It was definitely one of the more dramatic pieces up there.
28:15I felt really accomplished.
28:18The jacket fit so good.
28:19I don't know how that happened.
28:20It was, like, perfect.
28:22I was thrilled with the total outcome.
28:24As a designer, I felt I really got to where I wanted to go.
28:28I'm looking at the judges and I'm noticing that they were fixated on Ashley and her dress.
28:37I think that the look is very strong and best expresses my vision.
28:57After seeing everyone's, I realized I should have made bolder choices with certain things.
29:01It was really about drama.
29:03It was really about, wow.
29:05And mine was more subtle.
29:06I don't know if I'm making the statement that I want to make.
29:11I was confident that I designed something that I thought was really cute.
29:17Creating my vision within one dress and one challenge was fine for me.
29:23I was confident that I designed something that I thought was really cute.
29:26Creating my vision within one dress and one challenge was fine for me.
29:30My piece was very exciting.
29:32It was sort of larger than life.
29:35When I saw it, I was a lot happier than I thought I was going to be.
29:43Yeah, it wasn't as glamorous as I wanted, but there was a major sense of relief that I had actually pulled it off.
29:55There's no way I'm going to get voted off.
29:57It's just not going to happen.
29:58It can't happen.
30:00It can't happen, but it's not going to be like in a minute.
30:01She was so amazing.
30:10Marie rocked my dress.
30:11The dress was so representative of me.
30:12I couldn't have been happier.
30:13happier we've scored your designs will the following designers please step
30:22forward Chris March Kevin Sweet Pea Jillian Jack Marion Steve Carmen kit if I have called your
30:50name congratulations your scores were high enough to move you to the next round you can leave the
30:57runway the six remaining designers have the highest and the lowest scores one of you will
31:14be named the winner and one of you will be out let's bring out your models I would like to start
31:34with Christian I wanted to know what your whole thought was behind the outfit well I kind of was
31:40just going off of a sculptural European inspired tailored piece I think it shows that I'm an
31:47innovative designer I think volume is in and I like how you incorporated that in the sleeves and I love
31:53the detail in the skirt the black stripe how it it's continuous throughout the outfit it's nice to see
31:58the back it's quirky tailored it's not just another dress it's polished I think you thought about the
32:05whole look thank you very much I didn't find your fabrics very interesting but I do think you did a
32:13fantastic silhouette a fantastic design thank you thank you it kind of grows on me good it's right
32:20Simone what is it that you want to express with this dress Simone I wanted to express the feeling of a
32:30modern romantic kind of give the emotion and the feeling of antique textiles but do it in a modern
32:35way can I see her with the jacket off and could she turn around yeah I wasn't too impressed with the
32:48construction of this dress Simone why is the construction so poor I had a time issue so I I do
32:56understand what you're saying with that can you put the check back on I think that those two things
33:01worn together is so dressed in the dark like she just like grabbed some random jacket and put it with
33:07some random dress I kept waiting for that the wow factor and I was very bored really okay Rami Monique
33:18how do you like his dress I thought this dress was actually executed beautifully I think it's very
33:24chic I love your color selection what is this fabric just wanted to introduce something that is new and
33:31modern romantic and this is something that obviously is a signature of mine so it is sophisticated and it's
33:39chic thank you the one thing I will tell you is this though the flower the flower to me is a little
33:47M.O.B. a little mother of the bride like we just added that final touch but it's chic thank you thanks Ricky
33:56well I'd want to hear a little bit about you as a designer Ricky for my whole history I've done lingerie
34:06so I did a baby doll I think it's sweet but you opted for a very safe silhouette at the end of the
34:14day it's a baby doll dress and it's kind of boring it just leaves me hanging with well what else is there
34:22you know like it's it's too safe it has to be memorable memorable and oh my god you've got to push
34:28it this is just it's a nice dress and nice my god can you imagine the next day the New York Times says
34:34it was nice Victoria I thought um it was very sweet and then I thought the touch of the metallic
34:44brocade flower was a nice new twist to it do you have anything you want to add Victoria um I just
34:51wanted something fresh and because it was just so much black I thought you know it would be nice to
34:56add you know the floral sort of decoration you better not try to hail a cab in that dress really
35:03you cannot lift your arms well I think you need to make sacrifices for fashion sometimes I know women
35:08were willing to bleed if the dress is fabulous enough you're willing to bleed and last but not
35:15least Elisa tell us first about what your point of view was I specifically went for something that was
35:22alive and vibrant as far as color and I wanted something that would be sylph like you know aerial
35:28um water air going for a like a haiku of a cut just to sort of like very simple but beautiful like
35:35and then this cascade of like coming out the back I'm confused can you turn around it is so heavy that
35:44that that train that it's dragging the fabric down I mean it's an awful effect here she tripped on the
35:53runway that enough is a problem Michael you had me at hello because I think the color is pretty I think
36:03the sleeve is pretty and then all of a sudden it looks like you took all the scraps that were left
36:08and glued it onto the dress I think you didn't know where to stop there was an intuition which now
36:13confirms that I should always listen to my intuition is to take the scissors and chop it all off at the
36:18bottom every designer should listen to their intuition we've heard what you had to say we're gonna have
36:24a little chat and then I'm gonna call you back thank you you can leave the runway
36:29okay who should we start with who's gonna win this challenge I'm kind of on the fence what do we think
36:47about Victoria I thought it was a pretty balance of a safe silhouette and then the the flower it was
36:54another nice touch and it had a little flirtiness to it which was nice charm yeah Christian it grew
37:02on me I thought it was innovative yeah and I also loved all his you know intricate detailing you know
37:08the pleating the tucking the twisting so edgy and well made and the back looked fantastic yeah the back was
37:14very cool throw me he really knew how to work with that fabric yeah you know that whole look and how he
37:21draped it so well so I think he really knows his craft I got a very good sense of what kind of
37:25designer I'm eager to see what he does next time okay we've done the good ones now let's go to the
37:34bad ones how about Simone boring poorly made no creativity no creativity no wow I do have to say it was
37:42Simone I did like the color combination but I mean like when the jacket came off you're like oh my god
37:48the dress is put it back on exactly what was that she couldn't deliver Elisa she cut it all in one
37:58scene which is not easy which is not easy but then I thought she went way too far with the with the train
38:03and I don't know anyone in my right mind who would wear that dress the way it is her model looked like
38:09she was pooing fabric train wreck yeah it was definitely a train wreck Ricky Ricky well a baby doll dress well
38:23made yeah doesn't know how to sew but you know what you're a lingerie designer you know amazing something
38:29and that's what you gave me it's not good enough no it's not okay we've made our decision yeah okay
38:39let's bring them back out one of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out
38:59one of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out Victoria you're in you can leave the
39:15runway and now for the winner of this challenge congratulations
39:29Rami you are the winner of this challenge you will have immunity for the next challenge and cannot
39:38be eliminated wonderful you can leave the runway thank you to be the first winner was amazing I think
39:50that I set the bar for this competition I've gotten their attention and hopefully they will see more
39:57positive things from positive things from me I'm immune Christian you're in you can leave the runway thank you
40:12Ricky you're in you can leave the runway
40:16Simon you look at no wow factor and on top of that it was very poorly constructed
40:45Lisa Lisa creativity is great but you do need to trust your instincts and edit your look was way too much
40:56come on you're out
41:07Lisa that means you're in you can leave the runway thank you thank you thank you for the opportunity thank you
41:24I didn't expect to be the first one to go honestly I did have something to say and I feel like I did accomplish a beautiful garment even though it wasn't sewn in the way that I wanted it
41:42to be the first one to go first someone has to go first someone does so you have to go upstairs now and clean up your space okay thank you I truly feel like I had a chance to be part of the final three but I feel like if I want to show you know in the tent someday I can still make that happen on my own and continue on with the career that I'm
