01:13little redhead girls trying to go follow their dreams do you have a plan a brilliant plan I call
01:19them chicken wings no matter what happens never give up on your dreams it's kind of similar to
01:28this experience right now you can do it you have to go for it and not let anything get in
01:33your way
01:38yeah in the spirit of leap we want your next invention to be a fashionable look inspired by
01:44dance movement and innovation innovation kind of tricky but I think it could be really fun I'm
01:51excited get creative get inventive for this challenge you will have one day you will have 30
01:58minutes to sketch here at the runway and then we're going shopping at mood where you'll have a budget of
02:02two hundred dollars so now me personally Tim I like the hip-hop thing and I enjoy the ballet so
02:09before you begin sketching we want to introduce you to some incredibly innovative dancers they have
02:16combined hip-hop and ballet to give you a little inspiration and they are called hip lay

02:55what inspiration yeah yeah totally all right you've been assigned new models and your 30 minutes of
03:02sketching begins right now right yeah the hip leg girls they looked amazing and very innovative so I want
03:12to showcase the movability of a garment I've won the first challenge and I'm ready to take this win as
03:19well I usually work for us zero to four so this time like bigger than I usually work with so
03:27I think it's
03:27gonna be fun for me all right designers your sketching time is up and we're heading off to mood
03:45the movie leap made me think okay what am I passionate about I'm passionate about where I
03:49come from my family my culture so I am designing a bomba inspired outfit bomba is a Puerto Rican
03:56dance let's do 10 please you have similar like less texture might be a lot of sparkle I don't mind

04:05idea is to create a look that is flowy and has movement but also looks like stars and looks like
04:11midnight because the whole idea is that you know reach for the stars I'll take it yes I'll make it

05:08was inspired about the classical music before I got into fashion I was a classical pianist I started
05:16to play piano since I was three years old Japanese culture and classical music does a lot to my fashion
05:22design concept and everything so when I watched a movie I was thinking about Swan Lake and doing
05:29something like blocks one I really want to do something that gets the judges attention I'm
05:37African so I'm incorporating a lot of different aspects from African cultures feathers the colors all
05:44those elements of motion and movement you're burning oh I'm good though I'm really just kind of
05:51focused on detail with a more minimal cut Brandon what are you making those have to wait and see buddy
05:56all right let's see it then I can get kind of intense focused really calm just kind of taking my

08:24this week's challenge is to create a fashionable look based on dance movement and innovation
08:31inspired by the movie Leap my look is this wraparound jumpsuit it's got this one-shouldered
08:39sleeve and I want to like highlight the spread of the body like if you can do it it's kind

08:44weird design and I I love it the first thing I do is start dying my two top fabrics that
08:52I'm gonna
08:53turn into a crossover cropped hoodie top and a pair of silk cargo joggers I'm just tired of the twins
09:05running around the work room like the hits I cut off the twins are a lot guys be careful in

09:20overflow room I have fabric out it's like you can't have a peaceful quiet moment because they're like

10:04inspiring about the underdog taking a risk and a leap of faith so I wanted to give her a gown
10:09because she's probably gonna be going to a ball so I'm gonna do something fun and it's gonna have a
10:13really dramatic neckline a little pop of ruffles coming out possibly I'm having a lot of trouble I
10:21keep it clean just keep it clean I agree it's doing too much I'm actually working on like a shirt

10:27wanted it to kind of be like really minimal kind of cuts but something that has like a lot of
10:31detail
10:32this would have a relevance as much in the 15th century as it would in 2500 in this form it's
10:39stunning my
10:40client just called she said hey Kenya I'm going to the hip-hop ballet and we're having cocktails
10:44after you which you got for me I think it's smashing go go go go go go go thank you

10:50operas and I like the idea of a metal ballet hmm kind of witchy kind of ballet I don't want

10:57burlesque quite magnificent thank you so I wanted to start with like a kimono I stuck with kind of like

11:05geisha getting transported into this generation and falling in love with boging and then once it's
11:11revealed it's kind of folded play and kind of a Japanese technique I have to tell you I think it's
11:17fabulous thank you my initial idea was to do a very full pant has lots of movement you know it'll
11:25do its
11:26thing on the runway and I wasn't sure if part of the garment should change or you're thinking you're
11:34thinking too hard okay execute this just carry on and stay away from Red Bull and coffee I wanted to
11:42like highlight the specific areas that would like do that when you reach out so basically it's gonna be
11:48like a wrap like jumpsuit I don't want this to end up being a garment that's a poo poo platter

11:55different treatment I just don't want it to get too gimmicky this piece is her sweater slash sweater
12:03dress in the multi-purpose universe this is now going to become a jumpsuit so she takes this off and
12:10she's gonna step back into it oh there's another arm hole yeah so the sleeves of the sweater become the
12:17legs of the jumpsuit remarkable my vision it was blending hip-hop with ballet imagine it as a
12:26sweatpants silhouette ask yourself am I being too literal and I was wondering that yes what are you
12:34doing pleating excellent how are you using the pleating so maybe I'm gonna have a little bit of
12:40circles cut up to here then I'm gonna touch that please so if we are so it will lose okay

13:09something that kind of resonates with my culture the bomba dancing is very passionate dance it's very
13:15Puerto Rican and it's usually white cotton with like some red trim so I'm kind of playing on that I

13:20quite frankly there's so much happening here this looks full tilt costume I look at the garment and I'm
13:29just thinking what am I gonna do coming up on project runway I mean so much freaking pain this is
13:44my worst
13:44nightmare I want to win I mean quite frankly there's so much happening here this looks full tilt costume

14:39dashiki print on it I'm gonna cut strips of the fabric so that it kind of goes all the way

14:44that and where are the feathers going feathers are going to be on the back of it actually I want
14:49that element of surprise so when she's walking the feathers will be going down the back of her
14:54sleeves okay does it seem like a lot yes if any of the judges are nodding off this will wake
15:01them up
15:02well I hope so designers if you're in the brother sewing and embroidery studio would you please come in
15:08just for a minute you all are incredible and you're being extraordinarily ambitious you're stepping up
15:14and out you're taking risks I couldn't be happier I want you to know that all right your models will

15:49from the front to the back you know it's gonna be a little revealing in the stomach because it
15:54originally was designed for the back but who doesn't want to see a little skin great check

23:44your looks all right let's start the show I feel so good about my look the jacket is amazing the
24:02collar is just nice I can see my trim and all the work that I put in in the button
24:07details the jumpsuit
24:09fits that body so nice I'm like I want to buy it
24:20Marsha was just killing it it's everything that I wanted to convey I absolutely love what I did there's something
24:27fresh about it
24:27it's very relevant right now watching my look come down the runway it's perfect I'm really hoping that the judges
24:43are paying close attention to my technique it's a huge part of my design to manipulate my textiles
25:01she looks so chic it's crisp white and she looks like she's ready to go to Havana or somewhere just
25:08dance the night away I'm feeling pretty good about it I think it came together I'm so excited
25:20she is floating the fabric is moving I feel like the color is really electric it's telling a great story
25:28I can see she's confident I feel really good
25:35watching my look come down the runway I'm so excited I feel like a little kid

25:58I like the colors I like the direction of the top I like how dramatic it is and how like
26:03it looks so oversized and then I love how slim the skirt fits her

26:15Jasmine is really working it making it flow I love the layers of the colors as well as the ties
26:23that I've added that are kind of fluttering behind her as she's moving

26:35yes I am so proud of it Sean is making me look so good it just helped me achieve what
26:42I was trying to achieve and I'm so so happy with it I wouldn't change anything
26:51I love the movement that this outfit provides I can definitely see the dance inspiration
26:58the sash moves the silk pants have an ease to them she feels comfortable she feels effortless that is very
27:07very exciting
27:15I was really inspired by just like a movement in dance and just like how the body is moving
27:21it's got some like cool weird elements going on it kind of looks crazy but it's really fun you know
27:26I'm super excited about my look
27:30she's bouncing down the runway and the cape is just flowing behind her and everything is just looking beautiful
27:34it's looking just like a butterfly just like I have planned it to look it's everything I envisioned
27:40so I'm very very happy about this so I think I'll be on the top

29:08from the movie leap I took inspiration from the inventor
29:12he was flying he had wings and so I thought about colorful butterflies
29:16when I first saw the shadow of this I already liked it and then when it walked down the runway
29:22the print the color the fluidity of the fabric really captured it for me
29:29I could see exactly where you were going with the whole inventor Victor
29:33the character and I could really relate to this as a dance piece because it's very fashion forward

31:12it's a little bit too literal
31:14and it's just a little bit black on black on black on black
31:17maybe had you done this in another color
31:21there needed to be some kind of a punch when we saw it
31:25it just looks like you didn't make enough of an effort

31:46Bomba came to mind which is a very typical Puerto Rican dance
31:49so I took a little inspiration from that
31:51and kind of set her in a little tropical paradise ensemble

31:59it looks very well made
