03:00the first thing I notice walking in
03:05it's huge
03:06it was like a great privilege to be part of the final five
03:13in the Metropolitan Museum of Art
03:16with no one else there
03:17there's nothing more phenomenal and inspiring in this country
03:23designers, throughout time
03:31art has served as a critical and essential inspiration for fashion
03:36for your next challenge
03:38you will choose a work of art
03:39to serve as the inspiration for a look of your choice
03:43I'm extremely happy
03:45this is every designer's dream
03:47I love this
03:48that's amazing
03:49what more could any of us ask for?
03:51it's just about artwork
03:53the Met contains 5,000 years of art
03:56and it's one of the largest museums in the world
03:59so we've narrowed the galleries from which you will choose your inspiration to three
04:02the Greek and Roman sculpture courtyard where we are now
04:06the European painting wing
04:08and the temple of Dendur
04:09you will have 45 minutes to seek your inspiration
04:13and I have cameras for each of you to record the source of your inspiration
04:17your 45 minutes will begin now
04:20the first room is the Roman and Greek sculptures gallery
04:27and nothing could have been better for me

04:46there were so many things I was in love with
04:48but the statue of Aphrodite was sort of like a soulmate situation for me
04:54it was like instantly meeting my match
04:58after that we headed to the European painting gallery
05:06and of course for me that was the most exciting part
05:10just because I love European art
05:13I'm really inspired by this beautiful Spanish military painting
05:20there's so many amazing paintings in there
05:26and there's actual clothing on people
05:33there was no one there and it was so cool
05:37I probably could have touched a painting
05:40but I didn't
05:41where to net
05:43the temple of Dendur is an Egyptian temple
05:47that was lifted from Egypt and put in the Metropolitan Museum of Art
05:52it's incredible
05:54it's almost like you're looking at a movie set
05:57but it's real
05:59look it's John Rivers carved her initials in here when she was a little girl

06:11I think it was more the experience of being in the room that was inspiring
06:14it was almost spiritual

07:10I chose this fabulous Spanish military inspired almost Zorro like painting
07:17I didn't want it to be costumey necessarily I wanted it to be more high fashion avant-garde

07:36I connected with the Grecian draping because I know that that is something I'm extremely passionate about

08:45Master of the Argonauts with the armor that they used to wear during the fight was inspiring

09:02the painting that I chose as my inspiration is a portrait of an 18th century noblewoman

13:58what we want to do is use makeup as an integral part of your artistic expression

26:59I was just so excited because she looked kind of like some couture Cinderella
27:10and it looks really elegant and you know expensive
27:17the outfit was so hot I know it was really avant-garde and kind of over the top but for the runway for show it was perfect it was fabulous I loved every second of it
27:33I'm pretty confident about the way Sam looks the dress fits perfectly on her
27:44I'm passionate about draping but it could go either way for me considering that the judges want to see a variety of things
27:50I liked the design of this dress I feel like I'm a good designer good at merchandising I understand what sells I thought it looked great on her
28:07I think I did a good job with mine there were definitely little issues here and there but I don't see those anymore I represented myself the way I wanted to

28:59well I actually chose a Spanish painting
29:03a lot of my work has been a play on masculine and feminine
29:06I tried to create as many pieces that could be worn different ways
29:10what's going on into the blouse
29:11actually you could completely remove this into the blouse
29:15I love very much because I know
29:18how much love you put when you create something like that
29:22in the moment that you take off the jacket
29:24I start to appreciate the details of the shirt

29:30you really think about the show
29:32and you have the ability to also think practically
29:36I think it's super super super chic

29:43tell us about your design
29:44my design is based on an 18th century painting of a French noblewoman
29:51and I wanted to do a kind of modern couture version
29:54I think that Chris is really maybe the most artistic for all of you
29:59I can see you show in the future your collection in Paris
30:07maybe the old couture
30:09that's that's what I love
30:11well certainly you understand drama
30:14but I will say it's a little reminiscent of what we already saw from you with the shoulder piece
30:21I was thinking the same thing
30:23you kind of forget how beautiful the dress really is when you've seen it before
30:27it's kind of the way that I wanted to reinterpret the big pewter colored bow on the front of her dress
30:34if you take that piece out it would have still been beautiful
30:38and I'm sure that you have other tricks up your sleeve
30:41it's not just this one

30:43and that's what I wanted to see

30:49my inspiration was the master of the Argonauts
