00:08You in the top, how's that fit?
00:10Congratulations.
00:11I won the first challenge.
00:12I've kind of set the tone for the competition,
00:14so I'm really excited.
00:16I'm just glad that I'm still here.
00:18Yeah, girl.
00:18We are, too.
00:19Yes.
00:20Being at the bottom is not a good feeling,
00:23and so moving forward, I'm thinking, you know,
00:25I have to really show me.
00:28Oh, guys, get over here.
00:30Oh, my God, girl.
00:33Good morning, designers.
00:34I'm providing you with some protective gear because...
00:36For your next challenge, you're going to get down and dirty.
00:40There's no time to waste.
00:41Go meet Tim and a special guest.
00:43To find out more, XOXO Heidi.
00:46No.
00:47Oh, we got to get down and dirty.
00:49Oh, man.
00:50Let's do it.
00:51This is going to be good.
00:57Oh, no.
00:58We walk in, and it's a giant recycling center.
01:01Oh, my God.
01:03Oh, no.
01:03It smells terrible,
01:03and I'm wondering what we're going to do.
01:06Aw, kitty kitty.
01:07Hi.
01:08Welcome to Royal Waste Services,
01:11one of the largest recycling facilities in New York City.
01:14Wow.
01:14And please welcome our very special guest
01:17and very dear friend, Anne Fullenwider,
01:20editor-in-chief of Marie Claire Magazine.
01:22All right.
01:22Welcome, Anne.
01:23Thanks, Tim.
01:24I'm so excited to be here with you,
01:26and I'm really excited to tell you about your next challenge.
01:28The fashion industry has a huge impact on our planet,
01:31and now more than ever,
01:32we at Marie Claire are focused on sustainability.
01:34The dress I'm wearing is made of 100% recycled trash.
01:38Wow.
01:39I love the idea of sustainability.
01:42I know that fast fashion is one of the biggest contributors
01:45to pollution.
01:46So this is your first unconventional materials challenge.
01:50For this challenge, it is your job to not only recycle and reuse,
01:53but also restyle.
01:55So you will be transforming the recycled goods all around you
01:59into high fashion looks.
02:02Look, there's a very important detail.
02:06This is your first team challenge.
02:08Yay!
02:10All right.
02:11Our first team member of team one is Kudsonine.
02:14Our second member is Michael, Cantaro, Jayante, and Margarita.
02:21Team two begins with Aaron, Botany, Brandon, Kenya, and Ayana.
02:29Oh.
02:29So team three is Santel, Samantha, Amy, Claire, and Sean.
02:36So we have our teams.
02:37Yeah!
02:38And let me stress that even though you're working with everyday recycled materials,
02:42your designs should not look everyday.
02:44They should look high fashion.
02:46You'll only have one day for this challenge.
02:48You will need to use your time strategically.
02:51I have one more exciting announcement.
02:53The winning look will be featured in a spread in Mary Claire magazine
02:56in a story about sustainability.
02:58Oh, yeah!
03:00I want to win this challenge.
03:01Unconventional materials and a team challenge and a magazine spread
03:05all rolled into one.
03:06I'm ready.
03:07On Ann's signal, you'll have five minutes to gather as many materials
03:10as you can with your recycling bins.
03:13Is everybody ready?
03:14Yes!
03:15All right.
03:15Your time starts now.
03:21Watch out, watch out.
03:23It's pandemonium.
03:25Everybody's rushing to the same piles and the same trash.
03:28Here's my can.
03:29One minute, everyone.
03:31One minute.
03:33I'm grabbing plastic.
03:34This tray cover is just little things that I can add detail with.
03:38All right, everyone.
03:39Time is up.
03:40Designers, that's it.
03:42Those other animals.
03:45That was a workout for the day.
03:47I'm good.
03:48Whew.
03:58Where are we at?
03:59Over here.
04:00Over here.
04:00Oh, it's so smelly.
04:01It's like Easter threw up in here.
04:03So we're making a move.
04:04Good heavens.
04:07Wow.
04:10All right, we have our three design teams.
04:13And each team of five will be creating a five-look mini collection.
04:19You have until 10.30 tonight.
04:23So work like there's no tomorrow.
04:25You have a model card inside your sketchbook.
04:29You all have a new model this challenge.
04:31And we will continue to rotate the models.
04:33So you'll all have the opportunity to work with models of different sizes.
04:37I will be back later to check in with you.
04:40But do remember cohesion within the team.
04:43Have fun.
04:44All right.
04:48What a great group.
04:49Nice.
04:50Yeah.
04:51Hi.
04:53Guys.
04:54Here.
04:55This is mine.
04:56Yes.
04:56Definitely pick a theme.
04:58There's a thrift store where I live.
04:59It's called Uptown Cheapskate.
05:00Okay.
05:01So maybe you play on something like that because it is trash.
05:03Cheap upscale or upscale cheap means that like you're balling on a budget.
05:08This is like.
05:09Balling on a budget.
05:10Balling on a budget.
05:10That's our theme.
05:11All right.
05:11Our theme is balling on a budget.
05:13That's my motto.
05:14Amen.
05:14Love you guys.
05:18Our cohesive look is we're telling a story.
05:20Some kind of Japanese tale of modern yet still very fashion forward.
05:26Yeah.
05:26Let's talk.
05:26All right.
05:27Let's do it.
05:27Okay.
05:27And then if we did something like this and something that we did.
05:31I was thinking more like translucent and very fluid like.
05:34But it can't look like a hefty bag at the end of the day.
05:36Of course.
05:37Cruise.
05:38Okay.
05:38I like that.
05:39We're going to go with resort.
05:40We're going with sea glass and translucent to tie the whole collection.
05:48Samurai.
05:49You know.
05:50That would be cool.
05:51That would be really cool.
05:52Brandon your fabric looks killer dude.
05:54You liking it?
05:55Yeah.
05:55You're elevating that fabric to another way.
05:57What I want to do because I'm really fast at like braiding and weaving.
06:00Taking these twisting them so they don't look like plastic bags.
06:04I like that.
06:04Yep.
06:04How about we look at braids as the idea.
06:06Okay.
06:06And then we each go work.
06:07I am not vibing with the direction that our team is going.
06:11They're telling me this is what we're doing and I'm saying okay.
06:15I guess.
06:16Okay.
06:17What am I doing?
06:18I have to start because I'm starting to freak out.
06:20I am nervous about this challenge because I am a modest designer and I want to show that
06:26to the judges.
06:27This is so messy.
06:28The only thing that I'm seeing is clear plastic so you will be able to see straight through
06:33it.
06:34The time is just moving so fast.
06:36I don't know.
06:37I don't know.
06:37I haven't figured it out yet.
06:39Last week I was in the bottom.
06:40Now I have the triple whammy of a team challenge, a unique material challenge and my first time
06:47working with a plus size model.
06:49So I'm just, I'm really overwhelmed right now.
06:54Let's not overthink it.
06:56Let's not overthink it.
06:57I just, I'm terrified of the shame of failing.
07:03Coming up on Project Runway.
07:07She seems kind of stressed out.
07:09You planned beautifully.
07:11Good.
07:11I'm crazy about this.
07:12This is not going to help you.
07:14Hallelujah.
07:16There was utter elegance.
07:17This is what this show is about.
07:19I don't think there's a single fashionable shape there.
07:21You really need to change your perspective.
07:23It's like a leprechaun went dumpster diving.
07:36I can't stand stuff that isn't fabric.
07:39The challenge is to create high-end fashion made from recycled materials and the prize is
07:46spread a Marie Claire about sustainable fashion.
07:50What if instead of this, you brought it like this?
07:53Okay.
07:53Yeah, that looks sexier.
07:55Yeah, exactly.
07:56My individual plan is to stick with the color scheme and stick with the braided cord idea.
08:02I don't have the correct materials to make what I want.
08:06To make this full-length modest dress, you know, I need to make this work.
08:09And then a top that's similar.
08:13Um, yeah.
08:16I'm really concerned with Shawn.
08:18She keeps redesigning her look.
08:21She seems kind of stressed out.
08:23Is there anything we can do?
08:24We just need to get it done fast.
08:26I'm just frustrated because we are all a team and the burden's on all of us.
08:35Honestly, I love what you do.
08:37I think it's super cool.
08:37Thanks.
08:38Growing up Muslim and wanting to be fashionable, I found that there is a shortage in trendy,
08:45modest clothing.
08:47I'm definitely trying to break the barrier and show women that you can still be Muslim,
08:52you can still be modest, but still be current and trendy and fashion-forward.
08:56Ah!
08:57What's our team name?
08:58We were just talking about it.
09:00Samurai?
09:01How about wabi-sabi?
09:03Wabi-sabi?
09:03Yeah.
09:04What does that mean?
09:04Is that Japanese, like, you know, finding beauty out of, like, something very simple?
09:09It's difficult to explain.
09:11It's, like, very deep.
09:12And it's art, but kind of going into, like, you know, connecting with universe.
09:18All right, team.
09:18That's good.
09:19Wabi-sabi.
09:19Wabi-sabi.
09:20Now I want sushi.
09:22Yum!
09:23We also need a team name.
09:25Yeah.
09:26Do you have any ideas?
09:27Uh...
09:28I mean, we're trying to work on the ocean, water, resort.
09:30Or Team Tsunami.
09:33Yeah.
09:34I love it.
09:35Let's check with the other two.
09:36That's it.
09:39Good heavens.
09:40Hi, too.
09:41How are you all doing?
09:43Eww.
09:44All right, Team Tsunami, tell me what you're doing.
09:49So we decided to do resort collection.
09:50We're each doing a look, and our cohesion is being built from sharing elements.
09:54Okay.
09:54With these seedy cases.
09:56Braiding.
09:57And braiding.
09:57You're braiding the plastic.
09:58Samantha, this is you?
09:59Yeah.
10:00And transformed.
10:01Talk to us.
10:02This is going to be open down the center.
10:04And then this will be braided, too.
10:07I mean, I'm looking at the vibe of Amy's.
10:09Mm-hmm.
10:10And I'm looking at your vibe.
10:11Mm-hmm.
10:12They feel like very different customers.
10:14Mm-hmm.
10:15Think about the threads of DNA that can connect these somehow that make us believe it's the
10:22same person.
10:23Santel?
10:23So I'm doing an off-the-shoulder bustier.
10:26So I'm doing an off-the-shoulder bustier.
10:27For the neckline, I was thinking of doing the braided kind of vibe.
10:31And I'm going to use this as, like, a jump ring.
10:33What are you doing on the bottom?
10:34I was thinking a pair of shorts.
10:35What would you make them out of?
10:36Yeah.
10:37I'm not sure.
10:38You have a lot of resources here that can really move you forward.
10:43So, Shawn, what are you doing?
10:44I wanted to do more of a shapely bodycon.
10:48Where is it?
10:49It's in pieces.
10:50It's in pieces.
10:51Of course.
10:51I don't want to envelop her in these stiff fabrics.
10:57Right.
10:57Because you don't want to be on the bottom.
10:59No, certainly not.
11:01And not again.
11:02No.
11:03Indeed.
11:03Indeed.
11:05How is team wabi-sabi?
11:07We're coming together.
11:08We're coming together, Tim.
11:09How are you approaching this?
11:11So the basic idea behind our collection is a Japanese garden being taken over by samurais.
11:16Okay.
11:17With kind of this textile that I created, these plastic films.
11:20And I'll curl them so that it mimics a feather.
11:23Okay.
11:24So is that the effect it will have?
11:25Yes.
11:26Oh, all right.
11:27So in the newspaper, we just washed it out with a little bit of white.
11:31And then this I kind of covered with vinyl just to give it a little sheen.
11:34It's so disparate.
11:36Here I see a Japanese Mad Max.
11:39And here I see 1950s cinema.
11:43You need elements that bring these all together.
11:46How's ballin' on a budget?
11:48We are ballin' on a budget.
11:49Okay.
11:50Talk to me.
11:51Okay.
11:51So with my look specifically, I wanted to make sure that I incorporated the modesty aspect
11:55of what I do.
11:56So mine is gonna be long fringe.
11:58Okay.
12:00Kenya.
12:00What are you doing?
12:01I wanted to stay in my element as far as design aesthetic.
12:04Of course.
12:05And create a cocktail dress.
12:08It looks like I'm sitting next to someone on the subway and I'm reading part of the paper.
12:12They're not.
12:13I understand what Tim has to say.
12:15So I'm really trying to calm myself down and try to make a plan happen.
12:21So Brandon, you're making this print?
12:23Yes.
12:24I'm just finishing up the patterning now, so I don't have anything to show on the form,
12:26but I'm doing a sleeveless jumpsuit with a huge bell-bottom pant.
12:31Does each of these pieces of vinyl represent a piece from which you're going to cut a pattern?
12:35Exactly.
12:36Okay.
12:36I feel like you've planned beautifully.
12:39So my girl, she's going to an art gallery event.
12:43I'm gonna make this more structured.
12:44I'm gonna use some of the vinyl and some of the brown paper bag material to make the skirt flare
12:49out.
12:51Here is an overarching principle of this challenge.
12:55It's to work with these unconventional materials in such a way that you're controlling them and they're not controlling you.
13:04And, Botany, here's my concern about this.
13:07It looks like this paper is controlling you.
13:10I'm gonna be a blunt instrument because I'm most worried about you.
13:14Mm-hmm.
13:14This is not gonna help you.
13:16My mind is just turning like, okay, I'm just gonna scrap this and create a new design.
13:21All right, Erin, what are you doing?
13:22I'm designing for this party girl.
13:24I kind of have these, like, crazy, fringy pants and a clear plastic top that had a little bit of
13:30everyone's material confetti-ed in it.
13:32Are these five looks coming out of the same closet?
13:37I don't want to be blunt with you.
13:38It concerns me.
13:43Coming up on Project Runway.
13:45Let's look through the materials and let's figure out what we could do.
13:48Will you?
13:49I didn't.
13:49Stop. Stop. Stop talking.
13:51Sean's choking.
13:52We're in trouble, aren't we?
13:57As individual pieces, I get it.
14:00As a collection, I'll be blunt with you, it concerns me.
14:04Talk among yourselves about how you can give some more depth to these surfaces because they're rather flat.
14:10That's okay.
14:11I can do that.
14:11We need to help each other out and pull off something that is phenomenal.
14:16We don't have any other option.
14:18All right, designers.
14:20You all have a huge amount of work to do.
14:22We do.
14:22I'm not going to mince words.
14:23I'm worried.
14:25Your models are coming in at 7.30.
14:29I have confidence in you.
14:32Make it work.
14:33I'll see you in the morning.
14:34Bye-bye.
14:36Bye-bye.
14:41I'm stressed.
14:42No, don't be stressed.
14:43No, I'm stressed.
14:44Be too blessed to be stressed.
14:45Oh, I'm blessed and I'm stressed at the same.
14:48From Tim's advice, we reevaluate everything.
14:51We pull from Brandon's print.
14:53We pull from Kenya's newsprint.
14:55And my look is going to be one that ties us all together, where I literally use a concept from
15:01everyone.
15:01Santel and I are a little concerned with the progress that Shawn is making.
15:08Let's look through the materials and let's figure out what we could do.
15:11Like, collectively, we can all, like, cohesively get something.
15:15I don't like asking for anything.
15:16Oh, I'm the same way.
15:17But it's all about staying here and getting another chance.
15:21Yes.
15:21First, so let's, um, let's go.
15:23I'm kind of short.
15:24Hi, Louise.
15:24Hello.
15:25Hi.
15:26Tim has given me another critique that is not good.
15:29So I just scrap the whole design and I decide to work with the vinyl and just add accents of
15:35other materials.
15:36So how's this coming together to work with everybody else that's here?
15:39Yeah, yeah, yeah.
15:40I can't be at the bottom again.
15:42I just can't.
15:43Oh, boy.
15:44I think you got your winner here.
15:44Oh!
15:47Newspaper, plastic?
15:48What am I going to do with that?
15:50These kind of designs, you can't move around that much.
15:52You can't sit.
15:53So I'm just like, okay, Monique, are you ready for this?
15:56Like, get it together.
15:58Bye.
15:58Bye.
15:59I'll see you tomorrow.
16:01Bye, ladies.
16:02Yeah, here we go.
16:04That's so cute.
16:08Hi, babe.
16:09I miss you so much, babe.
16:11I miss you too, man.
16:13So the day before I came to Project Runway, I got married to the love of my life and I
16:20didn't have a chance to have any honeymoon or any time to spend with my husband.
16:23Just know that I love you and you're my main motivation and I'm always thinking about you.
16:28I think winning Project Runway would be the best honeymoon surprise for my husband and I.
16:32I love you, baby.
16:33All right, I love you, babe.
16:34Bye.
16:37Hammering.
16:41Tell me who I'll be supposed to be is doing well.
16:43Yes.
16:44I really love how everything works.
16:46How?
16:49I smell a…
16:50I smell a hater.
16:52How to make it do what it do.
16:54Towards the end of this first day, seas lost it and she's choking.
16:59I need...
17:01Stop. Stop. Stop talking.
17:02She's focused on Claire,
17:03and she's not even working on her design.
17:05I want to put, like, some other pieces here.
17:08Watching this is honestly... it's painful.
17:11Where are those pieces of those boots?
17:13I already took them.
17:13We all have to be all hands on deck,
17:15and we've already got two people practically overboard.
17:19We're in trouble, aren't we?
17:24I think I dropped the ball on this one.
17:26And I feel like it's my fault.
17:28We're in the bottom.
17:29I feel like our team could definitely be in the bottom.
17:32I don't know.
17:33That's why I'm so nervous about going into today.
17:35You guys been looking around at all?
17:37You think there's a top or a bottom?
17:38I think I'm feeling good about my look.
17:40All right.
17:41Well, let's get it in, guys.
17:44We sure do know how to make a mess.
17:54Good morning.
17:55Good morning.
17:56What a room.
17:57All right.
17:58If you're in the Brothers sewing and embroidery studio,
18:00listen up.
18:01A lot can happen in two hours,
18:03and you have two hours this morning.
18:05We say the long prayer.
18:06The JCPenney accessory wall is your resource
18:09for styling your looks for the runway.
18:12And your models will be going to the Avon Beauty Lab
18:15and to our hair studio.
18:17Thank you, Tim.
18:18Thank you, Tim.
18:18I love you guys.
18:19Love you, too.
18:20I love you.
18:20I love you.
18:24Focus.
18:26Oh, .
18:27Ow.
18:28Woo.
18:29Yeesh.
18:29Sorry for all the bad words.
18:31Hi, ladies.
18:33Hi, girls.
18:38Okay.
18:39That was good.
18:39What I love about Brandon's design is the wide leg pant,
18:45because my thighs are huge.
18:47The fact that he was able to get that
18:49and still make me look really good, I really love it.
18:54It's not getting over.
18:55It's not getting over.
18:59Oh.
19:01Oh.
19:03Oh, Jesus.
19:04I'm alive.
19:06It was a doozy getting into.
19:08I got to put some paint, a little bit of paint on.
19:11It fits like it was made for my body.
19:13I can, like, move a little bit, and it's just...
19:16I love it.
19:21It covers enough of her side boots.
19:23Sean's look has some fit issues.
19:25This is gonna be a hot mess.
19:27This looks fine.
19:28You're not gonna have, like, a range of movement.
19:30Ayana's has a lot going on.
19:32It's very creative, but, you know,
19:34it kind of reminds me of some mid-Evil times-ish kind of thing.
19:42This is Janine.
19:44Hi, Janine.
19:44Okay, so today we're going for, like, a Japanese theme.
19:48We start going outside the line.
19:50A little high fashion, yeah.
19:52Great.
19:53Hi.
19:54We want contour.
19:54We want a lot of highlights.
19:55We have these marked by Avon.
19:57What I'm going to do is do the darkest ones,
19:59just to give you a little dimension.
20:01Yeah.
20:02So we want to go kind of beachy,
20:04a little bit cruisy.
20:06Touch and glow.
20:07That's going to give you that sun-kissed look.
20:10Mmm.
20:10That looks really natural.
20:11All right, design teams.
20:14In ten minutes, you and your models and I are going down to the runway.
20:21Gotta make it look good.
20:25We have the most color.
20:27We have the most texture.
20:28It's very different.
20:29It's very different.
20:30We use the materials in a great way.
20:32It's beautiful.
20:33I feel that Centel's design is lacking a lot of design elements to it.
20:38I know he's a menswear designer, but I think for womenswear,
20:42he might need a little bit more time.
20:43Sean!
20:44Designers and models, we are headed down to the runway.
20:48Let's go, teams.
20:49Go, go, go, go, go.
20:51Slow but successful.
20:54Coming up on Project Runway.
20:56Today was utter elegance.
20:57Very good.
20:58I'm so impressed.
21:00Hallelujah.
21:01Something is confusing me.
21:02This would look like a really nice prom.
21:10Jazz.
21:12Hello.
21:12Hey.
21:13Hi.
21:14Welcome to the runway.
21:15As you know in fashion, one day you're in, and the next day you're out.
21:19There are 15 of you here, and after tonight there will be 14.
21:22In this challenge, you took sustainable fashion to a whole new level.
21:26You went to a recycling center to gather your materials.
21:29I love the unconventional materials challenge.
21:32It is my absolute favorite.
21:34You worked in three teams of five, and you were to create a high fashion five-look mini collection
21:40using your materials.
21:42The winning look will be featured in Marie Claire magazine.
21:47Deontay, you have immunity and cannot be eliminated today.
21:50All right, let's say hello to our judges.
21:52First, we have creative director for Brooks Brothers Women and fashion designer, Zach Posen.
21:57Hi, designers.
21:59Hi, Zach.
22:00Creative director for Marie Claire magazine, Nina Garcia.
22:03Hi, everyone.
22:05Actress, Maggie Q, star of the hit series, Designated Survivor.
22:10Hi, Maggie.
22:11Welcome.
22:13Editor-in-Chief of Marie Claire magazine, Ann Full & Wider.
22:16Hi, again.
22:17Hi, Ann.
22:18Also, we have Tim Gunn here for the runway show.
22:20And as you know, he is your mentor and will not be judging your looks.
22:24We also have an anonymous runway show.
22:26So we, the judges, will not know which designer created which look.
22:29All right, let's start the show.
22:38I love the colors on her.
22:40She is killing it.
22:43The vinyl that I put over the white painted newspaper is really glistening.
22:47I'm feeling like this is setting the tone for our team.
22:54I think my dress is clean.
22:56I'm happy with it.
22:57But I wanted to have more volume.
23:01It looks good.
23:08The fabric is flowing and it's the most beautiful silhouette.
23:13It looks like a real leather suit.
23:16It's incredible.
23:21I love how everything is moving.
23:28I think it looks good.
23:34It's not my cleanest work.
23:35But to be honest, from far away, it just looks super cool.
23:38And Liz is completely working it.
23:47Wow.
23:48Our team actually looks like a collection that you would walk into a high-end boutique and find.
23:54Hopefully, we'll be in Mary Claire.
24:04I'm definitely feeling confident.
24:06I feel that it's safe enough to pass me through.
24:10It looks beautiful on her and she sold it.
24:13It looks beautiful on her and she sold it.
24:19Samantha looks so beautiful.
24:22I like the top.
24:25She looks like she's wearing real clothing made of real fabrics and not garbage.
24:36I feel that the garment looks very attractive and stylish.
24:43The lights are going through the colored discs.
24:46It looks good.
24:51It fits her well.
24:53She feels comfortable and confident.
24:56It vibes with the collection.
24:59I'm pleased.
25:06She is captivating.
25:09She is stomping it out and making my dress look top-notch.
25:13It fits her well.
25:15It fits her well.
25:20Our collection looks very different.
25:23I'm concerned that we tried to be too safe, too conservative, and really miss that mark.
25:38My dress looks so cool.
25:40The colors are popping.
25:42She looks really futuristic.
25:45I want to take it off the model and wear it myself.
25:51Oh my God.
25:53I see the shine and the top.
25:55I see she is so confident.
25:58We actually might have a chance at winning this.
26:05My model looks happy.
26:07The dress is flowing perfectly.
26:09The fit is right.
26:13I'm very excited to see what the judges have to say.
26:22Jasmine is walking down the runway and I mean, she looks amazing.
26:26I've been thinking it's kind of the glue to the whole collection with the head-to-toe checker print.
26:31Probably the most classic cut of it all.
26:40Misha is bringing my dress to life.
26:46It's looking amazing and she is making me so proud.
26:55I could not be happier with my team.
26:57Everyone came together, put their ideas off on each other and we have a pretty solid collection.
27:03I think we're going to be okay.
27:10Some of the looks today blew our minds.
27:13They were amazing.
27:14Others didn't impress us so much.
27:17There will be a winning team and a losing team.
27:20One member from the winning team will be the winner of this challenge.
27:23And one member from the losing team will be out.
27:34Some of the looks today blew our mind.
27:37Others didn't impress us so much.
27:40One member from the winning team will be the winner of this challenge.
27:43And one member from the losing team will be out.
27:49The winning team is...
27:55Falling on a budget.
28:01Congratulations, you guys. Are you crying? Are you crying, Kenya?
28:07Yes.
28:08You really did blow us away.
28:10The losing team is...
28:16Tsunami.
28:18Tsunami.
28:19Wabi Sabi, that means you're safe.
28:21I'm going to talk to the winning team first.
28:24And then Tsunami, I'm going to bring you back out.
28:27You guys can leave the runway. Thank you.
28:40I'm confused totally.
28:42If they decide to say who was the weakest, do you guys have that figured out?
28:55All right, team ballin' on a budget. Please do explain and tell us about your collection.
29:02Our collection is playing on a futuristic music festival. We decided on the print that Brandon came up with and
29:12we just wanted to show that throughout.
29:14After the critique, Botany literally like redesigned hers. Aaron had the fringe and then we kind of just tied it
29:20all together with Kenya's newsprint.
29:23My look was intended to kind of be a portion of everyone else's.
29:28Hallelujah.
29:29I am blown away.
29:31Thank you. Thank you.
29:32Great imagination. And this is what the show is about.
29:36You guys did the best job of transforming the materials, especially this newsprint.
29:41Botany, last week you had one of the lower scores.
29:45Yes.
29:45Good for you for turning it around.
29:47Thank you. Thank you.
29:48When I saw that walk down the runway today, I was like,
29:50Yes! Fashion!
29:52It's really fashion. It's not just a dress.
29:55I was particularly impressed with Ayana.
29:59The drama of the fringe. There was utter elegance to this dress.
30:04Your bottle cap button back. The buttons in the back. Clever.
30:08That was like, oh, there goes my heart.
30:11So you are the winning team, but only one of you will be the winner.
30:15I would like to know who you think that should be.
30:18Well, I really like Ayana's dress. I think she should win.
30:21I think Brandon. I don't know. He was kind of the glue to us.
30:24I guess Erin, just because that's like maybe something closer to what I would make.
30:28I would pick Ayana. She was a team player. I'm very, very proud of her.
30:32Wow. Thank you.
30:33Ayana, what about you?
30:35My favorite piece is Kenyon's.
30:40Okay, we've heard what you had to say. Now we're going to talk to the losing team next.
30:45And then I'm going to bring you back in a little bit. You can leave the runway. Thank you.
30:52Cool.
30:54Team Tsunami, you are the losing team.
30:58Please tell us about your collection.
31:00So we went with a resort wear theme and just tried to incorporate the materials that we had found into
31:07the collection.
31:09Some of these pieces I'm looking at and I still see garbage.
31:12I don't see anything looking like fabric all of a sudden.
31:16In some pieces I do.
31:17Samantha, I feel like in your top I do, it looks sharp.
31:21The amazing braid effect of that halter top should have been the main detail throughout the collection.
31:28Santel, how long did you work on your outfit?
31:30I finished a little early and...
31:32What do you mean like a little early?
31:33An hour or two early.
31:35I'm surprised to hear that you had so much time left because it looks like you made it in ten
31:39minutes.
31:40It doesn't feel transformed. It's like a leprechaun went dumpster diving.
31:45Recycling is very much the reality of our fashion future.
31:50So for you guys to be so short-sighted about the possibilities of this is very disappointing.
31:57If I may say, I think perhaps it may have been fear.
32:02You gotta take risks.
32:06It's baffling to me, quite frankly, this whole thing.
32:09And Sean, actually yours, I don't mind as much.
32:12You know, when I look at your skirt, it actually fits pretty well.
32:15Also the halter, it looks quite nice.
32:17I actually sold the halter top.
32:20Oh, you did?
32:21Well done.
32:23I thought everyone did just their girl.
32:26The braid on mine, Samantha did.
32:29I did everything else and I did Sean's top.
32:34The textile was made by Sean, but I made the look.
32:39You guys spent a lot of time making this Warhol silver fabric.
32:43I painted all of it.
32:44I think the silver is great and it's actually one of the better notes of cohesion.
32:48A lot of it was rushed.
32:49Sean's look didn't get assembled until this morning and we were all working on putting it together with her.
32:55I love how the two of you do the same annoyed face at the same time.
32:59Yeah.
32:59But it's true.
33:00All three of us did help finish the twins' look, right?
33:04I don't think that that's quite accurate.
33:05I think that is very accurate.
33:06If I may quote you, you said I dropped the ball for you guys.
33:10That's not incorrect.
33:11I won't say that.
33:12Thank you very much.
33:13I want to understand because something is confusing me.
33:15If I may, what Sean was having an issue with is that this was a new experience for her, having
33:22never worked with a curvier model.
33:25You know what?
33:26She's not curvy.
33:27She's not that curvy.
33:28I'm like shocked that you're saying she's curvy.
33:31No.
33:31If you think that's curvy, you're going to have a real problem designing in the United States because that is
33:35not curvy.
33:37So you really need to change your perspective.
33:39And who do you normally design for?
33:41Singers, celebrities, people in the entertainment industry.
33:44Got it.
33:45Even if you had the perfect materials, you're a perfect model.
33:48This would look like a really nice prom.
33:52This is a team challenge.
33:54When all of them are bad, there is not salvaging anything.
33:58It's about the team.
34:00If I were to say one that doesn't fit most of Amy's.
34:03Here's that bus.
34:04That bus just came right out.
34:06That's it.
34:08But Sean, since you rolled that bus onto that stage, I want to know who you think is the weakest
34:13designer
34:14for the sake of time management.
34:16It was me.
34:18Stylistically, it would probably be Amy's.
34:21While I do think Sean does have a lot of talent, I would probably choose to send her to come
34:27back another time.
34:29I like you.
34:30I just want you to be able to, like, lift yourself up after each time, and I don't know if
34:34you can.
34:37Santel, what do you think?
34:38It would have to be one of the twins. It would be Sean.
34:41They both had problems designing and constructing their looks.
34:46If I may, I nearly sewed the entire silver dress myself.
34:51So who do you think should go home?
34:53Santel should go home.
34:54I didn't really care for the way that the dress was executed.
34:58Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
35:00Now we're going to take a closer look at your designs, have a big chat, and then I'm going to
35:04bring you back onto the runway.
35:05Now you can leave the runway. Thank you.
35:11The winner of Project Runway will receive the opportunity to collaborate with JCPenney on a limited edition capsule collection as
35:17part of the Project Runway line sold at select JCPenney stores and online.
35:22A selection of brothers sewing and embroidery machines with a retail value of $40,000.
35:27Makeup and beauty products for a year courtesy of Avon.
35:31The new 2018 Lexus NX coming this fall with advanced innovation and safety system standard.
35:37From the Pilot Friction Erasable Pen, the official pen of Project Runway, a lifetime supply of pens in an all
35:42-expense paid luxury trip to Japan, including a five-star stay near Japan's fashion center.
35:48$100,000 to launch their line, and the winning designer and model will receive a fashion spread in Marie Claire
35:53magazine.
35:54Hello, Tim.
35:55Hello.
35:57Do you want to bring each photo out individually?
36:00Marcia's wearing Bosnia.
36:01Oh, cool. She remade one.
36:03Here.
36:03She rallied and look what happened.
36:05It's been completely transformed.
36:09Christina's wearing Aaron.
36:10I love that they played with the transparency and that it floats around your leg.
36:14It feels fashion.
36:15It feels emotional.
36:17And Monique is wearing Kenya.
36:19I mean, this is pretty fabulous.
36:21Fabulous.
36:21The fabric is amazing.
36:23It's a proper dress.
36:26And Jasmine is wearing Brandon.
36:28I love this.
36:29She has to pull this off and make this look light and breezy, these pants.
36:33That's what makes it so special.
36:36And Misha's wearing Ayana.
36:38Wow.
36:39This was...
36:40Beyond.
36:41Magic.
36:42You have to do your spin.
36:43It's cool.
36:47So do you want to look at it look by look?
36:49So we have Samantha wearing Samantha.
36:51You know, this was effective, this braided trim here.
36:54Yeah, that's beautiful.
36:54Beautiful.
36:54Beautiful.
36:55I mean, I think out of all of them, this was the best look.
36:59And we have Shawn wearing Amy.
37:02Oh.
37:03Wah wah.
37:03Should we take off the jacket?
37:05No.
37:05No.
37:06What's underneath it is also not great.
37:09Laris will come out wearing Claire.
37:12If she took off all the extra stuff and just had a silver top and skirt, pretty cool.
37:18We have Sunita wearing Santel.
37:20Santel had a lot of talk about the form.
37:23It is a garbage bag.
37:24It's hanging together.
37:26He thought it was good.
37:28We have Kylie wearing Shawn.
37:31There was this whole issue with who made the top.
37:34It's surprising that we don't know how to make clothing for curvy girls.
37:38Grow up and make clothes for real people.
37:42Okay, so we've made our decision.
37:48Let's bring them back out.
37:52Team Ballin on a budget.
37:54There was one designer's look that really stood out.
37:59Ayanna, you are the winner of this challenge.
38:01Congratulations.
38:07Oh my gosh, thank you.
38:09Your design will appear in Marie Claire magazine.
38:14Wow.
38:17Congratulations.
38:19You can all leave the runway.
38:20Thank you so much.
38:23To have Heidi say, my name is everything.
38:27I went from watching Project Runway at home.
38:30Now I'm in it.
38:31I am so excited to be at the top.
38:33You're going to be a Marie Claire.
38:35Yes!
38:36Seriously.
38:37This is really important to me.
38:41Team Tsunami, you are the losing team.
38:45And one of you will be out.
38:50Samantha.
38:51Samantha.
38:53Claire.
38:56The three of you are in.
38:59You can leave the runway.
39:07Sean.
39:09Santel.
39:11One of you will be out.
39:16Sean.
39:24You're in.
39:27You're in.
39:27You can leave the runway.
39:35I'm sorry.
39:36I'm sorry.
39:37That means you're out.
39:39I'm humbled by this experience.
39:42Thank you so much.
39:45I finally get to see my husband.
39:47Aww.
39:48I got married the day before I came.
39:50Aww.
39:50Because I had no honeymoon.
39:52Auf Wiedersehen.
39:54Thank you so much.
39:58Um.
40:03Santel.
40:05Aww.
40:05Aww.
40:06Ah.
40:09Dude.
40:11Of course I feel extremely saddened by being eliminated.
40:15Yeah, like I came a long way, so.
40:17Everybody's watching is proud of you.
40:20Aww.
40:21How is everyone?
40:22It's rough.
40:23It's rough.
40:24It's rough.
40:25And Santel, we are going to so sincerely miss you.
40:28Thank you so much, Tim.
40:29I appreciate it.
40:29I have to send you the word for me.
40:32Okay.
40:32You take care.
40:33We know we're going to hear from you.
40:35Bye.
40:36Whoops.
40:37There we go.
40:38Just making it on the show and being able to learn from all of the people that I've
40:44met here, I'm a winner.
40:45I'm going to go home and I'm going to continue to push on because you never, ever, ever give
40:52up.
