00:00Lifetime
00:10So how do you feel about yesterday Christian about what my client
00:15Almost got me eliminated. I had such a hard time with the prom challenge
00:19I shouldn't have really been in the bottom two though. I know my dress wasn't that great, but God
00:25Others were not you ask me about any challenge. I've probably been up there. Yeah
00:31After last night's elimination, it's just a reminder that I got a lot of work to do. I'll miss Kevin, but I'm glad it's not me
00:41All right bitches, let's go we gotta find out what our challenge is
00:44Hello
00:54Before I tell you about your next challenge, let's bring out your models
01:06You've probably noticed something different about your models today and that's because for your next challenge
01:12You will be creating an avant-garde look inspired by a model's hairstyle
01:18The challenge really just couldn't be better. This is the challenge that I'm the most excited about
01:24This is an opportunity for you to push yourselves as designers and to create something artistic and conceptual
01:32Models because you weren't used in the last challenge
01:36They're ten of you and eight designers
01:39So two of you will be out
01:44Victoria you won the last challenge, so you get the first pick I would love to stick with Jacqueline
01:57Kit okay good Marie
02:00Sweet Pea this is tough because of the hairdos
02:03I'm sorry. I want to pick Lee sorry. I feel so bad, but I pick Lee over Katie. Her hair was nothing
02:11Lee's was fierce
02:13Jillian I'm staying with Lauren
02:16Chris Marcia
02:19Rami I would love to work with Sam
02:22Christian Lisa I picked Lisa who was my first model god. She is so high-fashion
02:28Katie
02:31Aviva Amanda
02:34Two of you will be out
02:37Ricky you have a hard decision to make. I'm sorry ladies. You're all beautiful
02:43But I want to play with Amanda
02:45Okay, Viva, I'm sorry you're out if he doesn't
03:00Tim is waiting for you in the workroom to fill you in and some of the details good luck and I see you on the runway
03:07Bye
03:09Bye
03:15Designers as Heidi said for this challenge you'll be creating an avant-garde look inspired by your model's hairstyle
03:21This look does not have to be practical
03:24It doesn't even have to be very wearable an avant-garde look is by definition ambitious
03:30Because of that you will be working in teams of two
03:34Of course, I will draw your names from this bag to determine the teams
03:42So team one is kit and
03:47Ricky
03:49Team two sweet pea with Rami
03:54Oh, that's fantastic
03:57Team three Chris with
04:00Christian
04:01Woohoo
04:02Yeah
04:03I was like all he does is costume and crazy
04:07He's gonna come up with something fabulous
04:09Who's left Victoria and Jillian?
04:13All right, you'll have 30 minutes to determine which model's hairstyle will inspire the look for this challenge your budget is
04:22Three hundred dollars and you will have two days
04:25Each team must choose a team leader
04:30I'm gonna send in your models use your time well, thank you
04:36It's gonna have to be one girl
04:38I know we gotta look at their hair
04:40Since you worked at Alexander McQueen do you want to be the team leader?
04:43I'm so scared
04:45I'm gonna get eliminated
04:47No, it's gonna happen to me
04:48I really don't want to be leader because I don't want to be eliminated
04:51But then I feel really strongly about this challenge
04:55Let's just decide who should we use
04:57I think hers is more glamorous
04:59Use her then
05:00Go ahead
05:01We chose Marcia
05:02She's very tall and gorgeous
05:04What if we did the entire dress in circles of organza?
05:09Thousands
05:10Thousands
05:11We're gonna do this in the most diplomatic ways
05:13I'm sorry your hair is more easy to work with
05:15Sorry girl
05:16Have a seat
05:17Maria's hair looks like a bird's nest
05:19So we decided to use my model Marie
05:22Our whole concept is based off this idea of nesting
05:26In my head these are all totally different fabrics
05:29That look good together
05:31That could be cool too
05:32I like that idea
05:33It just worked out naturally that I would be the team leader
05:36Because it's basically my concept
05:39Fantastic
05:40Rami and I decided we will pick Sam as our model
05:43He is the leader
05:44Because my mind doesn't really naturally go to the avant-garde
05:48Wow
05:49The chiffon is restricted in one area of the bodice
05:51And then just pretty much really falls out into a gown of some sort
05:54You know
05:55The vision for this avant-garde piece is hard and soft
05:58I'm using that concept to create curvy lines
06:02And then freely falling out just like her hair
06:04So what were you thinking?
06:05So I thought about like kind of an apocalyptic dramatic trench coat
06:09It's actually when I saw Jacqueline
06:11I know that she definitely has a very heavy like 80s punk reference
06:14There was not going to be a chance in hell
06:16That either of us were going to say okay you be the leader
06:19It was not going to happen
06:20I think we should just flip a coin
06:21Unless we flip this and if it lands face up
06:24Okay that's good
06:25If it lands face down it's yours
06:26Okay
06:27It's yours
06:28Okay
06:29Are you cool with that?
06:30I am
06:31I'm a little uncomfortable about some of the things
06:33Okay
06:34I think we need to just really solidify a story here
06:36Right
06:37Okay
06:38Designers
06:39Time's up
06:40We're going shopping
06:41We have $300 for this challenge
06:42Oh look at this one
06:43That, that, that, that, that
06:44We are getting different fabrics that work with the colors that we talked about
06:48Oh my god this is beautiful
06:49Mommy?
06:50Sweet feet
06:51Mommy?
06:52Is there enough?
06:53Yeah there's two, these two rolls
06:54That's not 40 yards
06:55We need so much fabric
06:56We need probably 50 yards of organza
06:57Oh this is better
06:58This is way better
06:59Perfect
07:00This is perfect
07:01It works
07:02Thank you move
07:03Thank you move
07:04Thank you move
07:05Oh wow we have a lot
07:06I don't want it to look like little house on the prairie
07:07Our avant-garde look started with the idea of the hair being a bird's nest
07:13So we did a theme of a girl who'd be in a garden and many aprons to represent layering
07:14This is some serious drama
07:15Like it's the girl who'd be in a garden and a girl who'd be in a garden and many aprons to represent layering
07:20This is some serious drama
07:21Like it's the girl in me and it's the bitch in you
07:37The bottom
07:38A rose
07:41If I was a diva
07:43It's the girl in me and it's the bitch in you.
07:46It's the bottom.
07:48Faroche.
07:49If I was a diva, my name would be Faroche.
07:52Marcia has this huge, kind of romantic, braided bun.
07:56So the gown is literally hundreds of layers
07:59of tiered, circular ruffles.
08:02And we'll have this giant neck piece.
08:04Oh my god, that's amazing.
08:05I'm trying to build us a cell phone tower
08:07so we can call out.
08:08How about if it takes us to Elisa's planet?
08:11Didn't you know Elisa left me these instructions?
08:14Unless you feel otherwise, I'd like to style the collar up
08:16and just kind of tipping over here.
08:18Awesome.
08:19The model's hair gives the effect of a mohawk,
08:21so it allowed us to come up with this theme of, like, rebellion.
08:27And I'm kind of replicating that hairstyle down the back
08:30of the trench coat that I'm making.
08:32Victoria's working on the shirt and the pants.
08:35Two days is never enough time for anything for me.
08:38And Victoria and I are both people
08:41who struggle with time management.
08:43So I'm pretty worried about it.
08:47So why don't you put it on the dress form
08:49and try to put a French seam in the center front, OK?
08:53I chose to take over the corset
08:56and sort of the gown part of the outfit
08:59because it's very intricate and detailed.
09:02So I asked Sweet Pete if she's able to do a pair of trousers,
09:06and she reassured me that she can do it.
09:08Do you want to make the apron in the thing?
09:21Oh, yeah, you want me to do that instead?
09:22Yeah.
09:23Let me just bone her.
09:24Bone her and then make the apron.
09:27Pin it extremely straight all the way down.
09:30Do you feel comfortable with that?
09:32Mm-hmm.
09:33Are you sure?
09:34I think what is slowing me down
09:35is actually having to constantly answer
09:38and attend to Sweet Pea
09:40because she's struggling with a pair of pants.
09:43I just feel like the pants should be almost finished.
09:45That's my only concern.
09:47They are. They are.
09:48Because there's so much work in here.
09:50Look, dude, we wanted to accomplish getting the pant
09:53and the corset sewn, and we've finished those,
09:56and we've also draped most of the gown.
09:59So I'm not really comprehending why he's so stressed out
10:03when we are actually ahead of the game.
10:05These are almost done, Rami.
10:06Okay, cool.
10:07I just told you.
10:08All right. I'm just thinking ahead.
10:10Any dysfunction that happens in the team,
10:12I feel like I'm going to be blamed for it.
10:14My ass is on the line, basically, here.
10:19Coming up on Project Runway.
10:20I have a special announcement to make.
10:22Oh, my God.
10:24My reaction is horror.
10:27Nausea.
10:37All right, man.
10:38Do I have enough cigarettes for the day?
10:40I'm kind of worried to go into Carson's today
10:43because Rami just seemed upset last night,
10:47so I am hoping things are a little different this morning.
10:51Let's take a look.
10:53Let's get it.
10:54Go!
10:57Sweet Pea's a little dyslexic.
10:59I never know what door to open.
11:01You're going to go do the ruffles.
11:03The crinoline.
11:04Okay, and I'm going to just keep doing this.
11:06Yeah.
11:07We're there, girl.
11:08Work.
11:09The challenge is to do something avant-garde,
11:11inspired by the model's hair,
11:13and it can be anything,
11:14so I'm excited.
11:16What do you think should be done?
11:18Something out the back.
11:20Maybe I do think bustle.
11:22Some drama.
11:23What is the goal?
11:24Because it could look like s***
11:25and be over the top.
11:26Of course.
11:27And I mentioned bustling a few times,
11:28and if we build the back of the dress out,
11:30I thought it would look really cool,
11:31but he's not really listening.
11:34Let me take over this, okay?
11:36Mm-hmm.
11:40Designers, may I ask you to gather around, please?
11:45I have a special announcement to make.
11:47Uh-oh.
11:48Get scared of special announcements.
11:50Yeah.
11:54There will be another look walking down the runway tomorrow.
11:59What's happening?
12:00Another look.
12:04I wanted to throw up.
12:06Oh, my God, I was so pissed.
12:08Each of your teams must create a ready-to-wear garment
12:11that embodies the essence of your avant-garde look.
12:16Let me assert that every major fashion designer must do this,
12:19provoke and inspire with high-end conceptual work,
12:23and translate it to saleable ready-to-wear.
12:25And this has to be done by tomorrow?
12:27By tomorrow.
12:28Oh, my God.
12:29Oh, my God.
12:30You will have an additional budget of $50 for this look,
12:33and we're going to give you until 1 a.m.
12:36I'm going to give you 15 minutes to talk among yourselves,
12:39and then we'll be going to Mood,
12:40where you'll have 15 minutes to shop,
12:42and only one team member must go.
12:44I'm going to give you 15 minutes to caucus,
12:46and I'll be back.
12:48So I already had an idea.
12:50Last dress skirt.
12:51Huh?
12:52Dress.
12:53Dress, dress, dress.
12:54Simple dress.
12:55And then we do a band.
12:56Mm-hmm.
12:57Right away, Kit looks at me.
12:58She's like, we should do something like a little dress.
13:00And I said, you know what?
13:01I'll figure it out.
13:02I'll drape it.
13:03It's cake for me.
13:04I do it day in and day out.
13:05But I want to pick out the fabric.
13:07We'll just do the simple little chic.
13:09Little outfit.
13:10I'm not scared at all.
13:11You too.
13:12I'm not scared at all.
13:13Heh.
13:15Just focus on one.
13:16Whoever gets finished starts it.
13:18The shirt dress, Mary?
13:19Yeah.
13:20I'm already off schedule, so.
13:22My reaction is horror.
13:25Nausea.
13:26I think navy.
13:27Why is it navy?
13:28Because it kind of ties in with the pant,
13:30and I feel like it makes it day.
13:33I feel like it makes it day, though.
13:35Navy's not so much day, I think.
13:37Right away, I have an idea, and he's immediately like,
13:40I don't like that color.
13:41And I'm like, okay.
13:43Sketch for me what you have in mind.
13:45What do you think?
13:46I go from the form the most.
13:47I can't be in the dark with what you're doing.
13:48I feel like you don't trust that I'm gonna...
13:50Because you don't seem too sure about it.
13:51You're not telling me what you're doing.
13:52I'm not, I'm totally sure.
13:53You scribbled out your sketch, so I'm confused.
13:54No, this is...
13:55Sweet Bee was not clear to what she wanted to design,
13:59but since we are a team, I really need to know what it's going to be.
14:03I'm not asking for a while.
14:04Help me swatch.
14:05Okay.
14:07All right, designers, your 15 minutes is up.
14:10I'm leading the group to Mood.
14:12Who's coming with me?
14:13I'm out.
14:14Okay.
14:15Thank you, Jillian.
14:16Pray for us.
14:18Get on the way!
14:20Love you, love you.
14:22Love you, bye.
14:23Oh, wait, I didn't get up front.
14:24I chose to go to Mood just because I'm fast,
14:27and I kind of knew exactly what I needed.
14:29Like, this is my main choices here.
14:31Like a gray.
14:32Ooh, that's gorgeous.
14:33I just started running around, and I found some beautiful silver shantung.
14:38And I think I'll get something really cute out of this.
14:40Um, yeah, yeah.
14:42Let's cut that.
14:43Just give me a yard and a half.
14:44I think I can make do.
14:45Okay.
14:46I pulled everything together that I needed.
14:48Let's get this fabric and get out of here so we can make something with it.
14:52Time's up.
14:53Let's sit back to the work room now.
14:55Okay?
14:59Okay.
15:00I had a gajillion.
15:01Went good.
15:02Let me show you what I bought.
15:03I got this.
15:04Cool.
15:05So I will start draping.
15:06But I'll just drape.
15:07Just show me.
15:08I'll show you.
15:09Just show me.
15:10That's fine.
15:11On to the next one.
15:12From fantasy to reality.
15:13Designers, I'm bringing in the models so you can have a fitting.
15:17Yay.
15:18They'll be here for about 30 minutes.
15:19All right?
15:21Use your time well.
15:22Make it work.
15:23All right.
15:24Come on in.
15:25Have fun.
15:26Hi, ladies.
15:27Hey.
15:28How are you?
15:29Good.
15:30How are you?
15:31I love this here, I think, but I'm not sure if I love it here.
15:33I think it makes it more interesting, no?
15:36I think Rami did end up putting way too much stuff on the dress and he disagreed with me.
15:42But I definitely don't think adding so much stuff to it is what would be considered avant-garde.
15:48Step in.
15:49This is going to be so heavy.
15:51This looks crazy.
15:53I'm so excited.
15:54Once Marie put our avant-garde look on, it really transformed the whole piece.
15:59You have to step back and say, wow, this is really cool.
16:02Dude, it looks so good.
16:03As usual, I only have a pant to fit on you.
16:07Okay.
16:08So at least it's something.
16:09So Jillian has nothing that she wants to fit?
16:10Yeah, not yet.
16:11Because her dress is pretty much really done though.
16:14Okay, great.
16:15I'm glad you're done.
16:16Sorry, sorry, sorry.
16:17Everybody's done except for me and Victoria.
16:19Great.
16:20We are still in development phase and we weren't completely prepared to have a full fitting.
16:26My concern is that Victoria is immune for this challenge.
16:30And ultimately, if we're on the bottom, it's immediately me who has to go.
16:36Oh my God.
16:37Oh yeah?
16:38I told you she's magical.
16:39Wait.
16:40Just dislocate my shoulders and be fine.
16:43Is this hurt?
16:44Make it a little looser.
16:45Okay.
16:46Don't kill her.
16:47What I hope happens tomorrow at the runway show is that our model, Marcia, comes out and
16:53people's jaws drop to the floor and they never forget it as long as they live.
16:59Work.
17:00Oh.
17:01Burn it up.
17:02Girl.
17:03Yes.
17:04You got to bring it back, girls.
17:05You got to bring it back from the side and turn.
17:09Oh.
17:16That's good.
17:17That's really cute.
17:19Yeah.
17:20Rami's letting me do the ready to wear look and it's super cute and it's totally me.
17:25I need you to finish the dress and the pants.
17:27Rami, hold on.
17:28I'm going to finish these.
17:29Okay.
17:30I need to know when we're going to finish.
17:31That's all.
17:32I'm entitled.
17:33I'm going to the work room and Sweet Pea has been on the cutting table for quite some
17:38time.
17:39I'm leading the team.
17:40I need to make sure that everything's going on schedule.
17:43My ass is on the line.
17:44Okay.
17:45So is mine.
17:46I'm leading the team.
17:47No, mine is more than yours.
17:48Please understand that.
17:49That's all I need you to do.
17:50Please.
17:51Okay.
17:52Please.
17:53That's it.
17:54That's it.
17:55It's so simple what I'm doing right now.
17:56Okay.
17:57Let's just have a time plan.
17:58That's all I'm asking for.
18:00Oh, God.
18:01Sweet Pea gets defensive.
18:03So I'm feeling like I need to be extremely careful and it's draining a lot of my energy.
18:08It makes it hard for me to work.
18:12I have to .
18:15I'm almost done.
18:16I'm sorry.
18:17No.
18:18It's okay.
18:19I know.
18:20This is hard.
18:21I just was like so mad.
18:23This is rough, you know?
18:24I told him to just calm down.
18:27I wish Rami would just like, please get off my back.
18:31Coming up on Project Runway.
18:33I'm worried.
18:34The problem here is that we think differently.
18:35I'm just hoping we don't end up in some kind of fist fight.
18:49Let's take theæš—om painted that accomplishments.
18:50Let's try.
18:52It's okay.
18:53It's ok.
18:54How can doors walk after it is now?
18:55It'll bep kenn Kurnai.
18:56Ideally.
18:57It'll be awhile ago isyn Kurpa.
18:58Sorry.
18:59It'll be okay.
19:00I love you.
19:01It's cold.
19:02I love you.
19:03If you're When I Men A interested in the retailers, be speaking to theroughs and my
19:05extreme heights.
19:06I just wanted to show my front scratched and the bright groove of it and then I'm waiting
19:07to sign a cylinder with it and this could choose my summation 중.
19:08Please welcome Nathaniel Hawkins.
19:17Nathaniel is lead stylist for the Tresemme haircare creative team.
19:21Welcome to Parsons, the new school for design.
19:23Thank you for having me.
19:24Nathaniel's here to consult with you on the hairstyle for your ready-to-wear look.
19:28What we're going to do today is to translate the avant-garde hairstyle into a look for the everyday woman.
19:35We want to create something that is beautiful, effortless, yet practical.
19:39And Nathaniel has a special announcement to make.
19:42The winning team's looks and models will be featured in a Tresemme ad in Elle magazine.
19:48Wow! Thanks, Nathaniel!
19:52To be in Elle magazine for Tresemme, that's exciting and it makes us want to work harder.
19:58Hello. Hello.
20:00On her, I would do a little bit of fullness and create a smaller, more elegant shape.
20:06Sounds perfect.
20:07We still can create this smoother crown, building into it. Very loose.
20:12Yeah. I love it. Perfect.
20:14So Jaclyn has that crazy faux hawk.
20:17Yes. I thought that we could do hair pressed perfectly smooth with the long, luxurious hair.
20:23Love that.
20:24Strong side part. And we'll get a nice, soft shape.
20:28Wouldn't that be rad?
20:29It will be so pretty in her.
20:31Thanks, Nathaniel.
20:32Bye, sweet pea. Have a good night.
20:41Hi, everybody. How's Team Fierce?
20:43Well, what are you Fierce?
20:45Well, I have to tell you guys, this is staggering.
20:49But this translation to ready-to-wear worries me.
20:53This looks kind of cheap.
20:55Funny.
20:56Oh, my God. I think it looks so expensive.
20:58I know.
20:59I'm dubious.
21:00Okay.
21:01I think it'll be very chic, and I'll totally fight that if I have to.
21:06Kit? Rikki?
21:07Yes.
21:08We're very excited.
21:09All right.
21:10All these ribbons are gonna just become a big, giant nest.
21:15Is it costume?
21:17And the answer is, yeah.
21:19But it's conceptual.
21:21Is there anything else you can do to dramatize this?
21:24Does it need more of this to punch it up?
21:28No, I don't know about that.
21:30Just have it be exuberant.
21:32Thank you, Tim.
21:33Okay.
21:34Just do it.
21:35Santa Maria, let's go.
21:36So, Rami.
21:37Yes.
21:38Sweet pea, how are you doing?
21:39Good.
21:40This is the corset gown that's worn as a blouse.
21:44Is this going to surprise them, or is this going to be what they expect?
21:49You don't think it's over the top enough, is what you're saying?
21:51We're asking you to go many steps higher, and have you gone high enough?
21:57They have not seen me do corsets, Tim.
21:59The only thing I'm gonna say, I'm worried.
22:02Okay.
22:03The problem here is that we think differently, and we're working as a team, and it's a conflict.
22:10I think that's more on our work process.
22:12Well, how has the experience been so far?
22:14It doesn't really have to do with them.
22:15I want you to talk a little bit.
22:16How is that, the way you work together?
22:17We just both work really differently.
22:19We do.
22:20We do.
22:21So it's been difficult.
22:22Tim is saying, this dress looks too much like you, Rami.
22:25And it's like, what does that have to do with how we work as a team?
22:29Other than, he won't let me in.
22:31All right, carry on.
22:32Okay, thanks.
22:33Victoria, Jillian, how are you doing?
22:36We're doing okay.
22:38It's dressed for time.
22:39We're just moving as fast as we can possibly move.
22:42I want to assert that this coat is fabulous.
22:46If you can achieve this, this is incredible.
22:50Yeah.
22:51The second outfit, we haven't even started it.
22:54It's a matter of finishing this, and it's a matter of that second look.
22:59Okay, carry on.
23:03Thanks, Dylan.
23:04I'll be in the sewing room.
23:06Okay, I think I will join you, Jillian.
23:08Oh, great.
23:13So right now we're not talking, and it's a little tense.
23:16I'm totally expecting to be in the bottom tomorrow.
23:19That's one reason I really wanted to pull my dress together,
23:22so that I can stand strong with something really great on the runway myself.
23:29What?
23:30No.
23:31What?
23:32Oh.
23:33All right, you mother .
23:36Come on.
23:37Let's see.
23:38By the end of the evening, I still had some finishings to do on my two garments.
23:47Jillian, as well, had not completely finished her coat.
23:50I have no idea if we're going to be able to even start the second look.
23:55Okay, let's go.
23:56So tired.
23:57Oh, I can't even walk.
24:11Everybody ready?
24:12I'm kind of wondering how Rami's going to be today.
24:15I'm just hoping we don't end up in some kind of fist fight.
24:20Okay, let's go.
24:21I'm ready.
24:22I'll be waiting.
24:23I just want to make sure that it looks like an expensive enough dress.
24:37Yeah, I know.
24:38The first thing that I do is start on that second dress.
24:42In order to finish it, I'm going to move like the speed of light today.
24:46Good morning, designers.
24:47Hi, Tim.
24:48Good morning.
24:49I'm going to be sending in your ready-to-wear models momentarily.
24:53Your avant-garde models are already in hair.
24:56You'll have a two-hour period of time to send your models to the L'Oreal Paris makeup room
25:00and the Tresemme hair salon.
25:03All right.
25:05Hi, darling.
25:06Let me try this on you.
25:07See, with the no sleeves, it's done.
25:09It's very chic.
25:10Perfect.
25:11I think it's cute.
25:12It's a dress.
25:13It's super casual.
25:14The ready-to-wear dress looks really simple.
25:16I would have liked to have done it in a different fabric.
25:19But because we were telling Kit's story, that's the story.
25:23It's perfect.
25:24It's fine.
25:25It's what it is.
25:26So, this is going to be your front section.
25:43Just put your hands up.
25:45This is couture hilarity.
25:47Make sure the face is always tucked in.
25:50In all honesty, I know we're going to win.
25:53It just has to happen.
25:55I smell transomane.
25:56Right here, it's supposed to be a little.
25:59It's the least of my problems right now.
26:01Okay.
26:02In the end, I put the second dress on my model.
26:05But it is like a last-minute afterthought.
26:07It's beautiful.
26:08Can you cut me a piece of bread, Amanda?
26:10I can do it here.
26:11I really like our final garment because I think it stands apart from the other designers.
26:16I am a little bit nervous, however, because it's just really different from where everyone else went.
26:22Are you sure about these boots?
26:24Well, yeah.
26:25Designers and models.
26:26This is it.
26:27We're going down to the runway.
26:28Okay.
26:29So, follow me.
26:30Let's go.
26:31I'm just worried that you...
26:33Jillian, Victoria, we've got to go.
26:36We definitely lived up to team last minute.
26:40I was proud that we did a great job on the avant-garde look.
26:44I think it would be amazing if we won.
26:46I just, at this point, I'm not convinced that that will happen.
26:52Coming up on Project Runway.
26:54I wonder if there's something else that you can do.
26:57It just does not look well made.
27:06Welcome to the runway.
27:11As you know, in fashion, one day you're in, and the next day, you're out.
27:16For this challenge, we had you work in teams of two to create two looks.
27:21An avant-garde look inspired by your model's hairstyle.
27:25And a second ready-to-wear look that captured the essence of the avant-garde outfit.
27:31The winning outfits will be featured in a Tresemme ad in Elle magazine.
27:36Let's meet the judges.
27:40First, we have top American designer, Michael Kors.
27:43Hey, guys.
27:44Next, we have Nina Garcia, fashion director of Elle magazine.
27:47Hi, everyone.
27:48And acclaimed Italian designer, Alberta Ferretti.
27:51Hello.
27:52Hi.
27:53Ciao.
27:54We will score your designs as they come down the runway.
27:56One of you will be named the winner.
27:59And tonight, only one of you will be out.
28:06Let's start the show.
28:13I'm very happy as I'm watching Sam walk down the runway.
28:16I feel like I created something that is original and beautiful.
28:22I definitely really loved my dress.
28:27I loved Rami's, too.
28:29You know, I just think maybe it wasn't big or grand enough.
28:33I always watched the judges' faces, and Nina Garcia could not keep the look off of her face.
28:50I think that she was impressed by it.
28:52My avant-garde look was amazing.
28:55The couture pose is all about the cinched waist and hunched shoulders.
28:59It was such a shock factor from the beginning to the end.
29:06And the ready-to-wear look was so chic and looked beautiful.
29:09So I was 10,000% happy.
29:16I'm definitely happy with the avant-garde look.
29:20But I see the very serious fashion of all the other designers.
29:24And Ricky and I didn't go that direction, so that makes me very nervous.
29:28To have a second look, you really get the extremes.
29:35You get the really high and the really low of the whole story.
29:40We were excited because she looked amazing.
29:52We loved the silhouette. We were both happy.
29:55Jacqueline really executed that look to perfection.
29:59And I don't think that any other model could have done it like she did.
30:10I was proud that we did finish the ready-to-wear look,
30:13but I wasn't satisfied with it at all.
30:16We've scored your designs.
30:26Will the following teams please step forward?
30:29Ramy and Sweet Pea.
30:33Kit and Ricky.
30:36Your teams have the lowest scores.
30:41But first, we're going to talk to the teams with the highest scores.
30:44You can leave the runway.
30:53Okay, let's bring out your models.
31:05Christian, what was your thought process with your look?
31:08When I first saw Marcia's hair, we took it as like a very romantic old world feeling.
31:17Whose design was it?
31:19He came up with the color idea and we decided on the model.
31:22We just kind of went, I can do this, you can do that.
31:25And this is 45 yards of fabric, just to let you know.
31:27Can we see the back?
31:32It's amazing because it's a very complicated dress.
31:36It's a couture dress.
31:37But the job is amazing. Congratulations. Thank you.
31:41Seven.
31:42It looks beautifully crafted.
31:46It's certainly important and exciting looking.
31:49I think it's very soigné and I think that the ready-to-wear, the blouse is great looking.
31:56But I think the skirt's a little bit of a throwaway, let's be honest.
31:59Yeah, it's not perfect, I know.
32:01But obviously as a team, you guys worked well together.
32:04It could be a cover try, this look. It's really, really beautiful.
32:08Okay, Victoria, tell us about your avant-garde look.
32:12The immediate reference we had was something very punk with an equestrian le motif.
32:18The silhouette is very beautiful. Cutting very well, yes.
32:21Can we see the blouse in the pants?
32:24I like the dishes.
32:25I do too. Why'd you hide them?
32:27Yeah, why?
32:28Because the coat was so beautiful.
32:30Can I see the back of the choppers?
32:32It's adorable, the blouse.
32:33The back of the blouse is great.
32:35And I don't mind the tartan little black dress. I mean, I think it's cute.
32:40We had three looks.
32:42No, you do. You do, you have three looks.
32:44So we should win.
32:47Okay, we've heard what you had to say. We can leave the runway. Thank you.
32:57All right, let's bring out the teams with the lowest scores.
33:05Rami, please tell us about your avant-garde look.
33:11When I first looked at Sam, instantly I thought of a corset.
33:15And I imagined something that is flowy.
33:18And we paired it with a pair of pants to kind of create sort of two odds and have them meet together.
33:24Who did what exactly here?
33:26I made the gown with the corset. Sweetie made the pants and the dress.
33:33The dress is beautiful.
33:35It's a cute dress.
33:36It's cute.
33:37The commercial dress in this instance, to me, is more forward-looking than the avant-garde piece.
33:41Rami, I know that you do draping impeccably.
33:45I wonder if there's something else that you can do.
33:47The dress, the volume is not so dramatic and it's too normal.
33:52Maybe the shape of the trouser could have been more masculine.
33:56Can we see what they look like now?
33:58She looks like her ass is in her front.
34:01But the gown could have had something that when she walked out, it just went oof.
34:06I wanted to add something back here like an explosion out of her rear.
34:09You know, I know it sounds kooky, but you know, I think that he was really taking ownership of his design and didn't really want me putting too much into it.
34:19We were two odds working together and that's what sort of took away from the loudness.
34:25We work different ways.
34:27But you do know that the best design teams are not people who are exactly the same.
34:33Or else you're just sitting and telling, you're fabulous. You know, you're fabulous.
34:35You know, you're fabulous. I mean, you want someone else's opinion.
34:38And you get nothing done.
34:39I mean, you get nothing. And you just, you were arm wrestling the whole time.
34:46Kit!
34:48How did you divide up the work between the two of you?
34:50I made the skirt and Ricky made the corset and the ready-to-wear dress.
34:55It's so strange, that dress, because it's not avant-garde. It's cheap. It's real cheap.
35:00It's a little Scarlett O'Hara, but in a cheap way.
35:06I have to say what Alberta said about, you know, Scarlett O'Hara ripped the drapes down, but she made a couture dress out of her drapes.
35:14This, she ripped the sheets off the bed and ran out the door.
35:17I think, also, it just does not look well made.
35:20You know, if you look at the satin, it is all, like, wrinkly.
35:24I feel like it needs to be steamed or something.
35:28If I were pulling for a couture avant-garde photo shoot, this would not be it.
35:34And I think the ready-to-wear outfit is equally disappointing.
35:41OK, we've heard what you had to say. We're going to have a little chat.
35:44And then I'm going to call you back. You can leave the runway.
35:46So who did we like?
35:57Christian and Chris had, I think, a remarkable avant-garde piece.
36:02Today is an amazing job. That is important.
36:05And as a team, they work together brilliantly.
36:08Normally, you know, two designers, you stick two things together.
36:11It looks like two things stuck together, but in this case, it didn't.
36:14She looked like a photo shoot right there.
36:20With Victoria and Julian, I love the dress.
36:23I love the pants and the shirt, and I love the coat.
36:26It just looked terrific.
36:28Very, very good job in all directions.
36:31You could see a lot of women really wanting to wear those clothes.
36:39What do we think about Rami in Sweet Peas Team?
36:41He knows he can drape very well, and that's what he consistently gives us.
36:46But show us something else for a change.
36:48No, I...
36:49His excuse was...
36:50Sweet Pea.
36:51He was throwing her under the bus.
36:53She executed the daytime dress very nicely.
36:56Yeah.
36:57It was a great, great little daytime dress.
36:58And then Kate and Ricky.
36:59I don't know if they even wrapped their head around the word avant-garde.
37:03It's so strange, because the realization is terrible.
37:08She picked out these fabrics, which I think looked very poor.
37:14If they would have executed it in a beautiful way, with beautiful materials, it could have worked.
37:19The one thing I will say, though, is the construction of that hoop from scratch.
37:25That was good.
37:26But it didn't help the look of the clothes.
37:28No.
37:29And then the ready-to-wear dress truly looked like the poorest.
37:34Amateur. Everything looked amateur.
37:36So, we've made our decision?
37:41Yes.
37:42Yeah.
37:43Okay, let's bring them back out.
37:56One of you will be named the winner.
38:00And one of you will be out.
38:07Let's start with the winner.
38:08It was between Christian's team and Victoria's team.
38:23Congratulations.
38:26Christian, you were the winner of this challenge.
38:30Your looks will be featured in a Tresame ad in L Magazine.
38:35Christian because you were the team leader you will also have immunity and
38:40can't be eliminated in the next challenge you both can leave the runway
38:49I want to win them all but this challenge really meant something I'm
38:53really excited and it's great to be an elk being young I don't have that much
38:57press yet Victoria Jillian good work you're both in you can leave the runway
39:13Ricky you're in you can leave the runway
39:16sweet pea you're in you can leave the runway
39:27Rami kit one of you will be out
39:40Rami your avant-garde look wasn't dramatic
39:46unfortunately the only drama that we saw was between you and sweet pea and as a
39:51team leader that is your fault kit we wanted you to give us something
39:56fashion-forward but instead you took us backwards but not in a good way
40:06kit you're out that means Rami you're in you can leave the runway
40:16you guys are making sure I'm going to start crying I honestly don't believe in regret and I have no regrets I went out and I went out big
40:32I need to send you upstairs to clean up your space okay
40:48I'm really really sad that I'm leaving but I have two full suitcases of friendship and success
41:00it's unfortunate for me but it's also unfortunate for the competition that I'm out
41:07so
41:11oh
41:11so
41:12it's
41:13and
41:14I'll see you
