00:00:00.
00:00:06Congrats on the win, Mike.
00:00:07Well, I'm so proud of you.
00:00:09I feel like I want to cry because I'm so happy, but...
00:00:13Thanks.
00:00:13With last week's win, the judges got to see my point of view as a designer.
00:00:18Now I'm starting to embrace the challenges versus letting them overcome me.
00:00:22I feel like the fact that there's no more drama let us push ourselves,
00:00:26and that's exactly what I wanted in this competition.
00:00:29We're getting closer to the end goal.
00:00:31People want it, you know what I mean?
00:00:32So you can kind of feel that added pressure.
00:00:34So it's a top six, and there's no more safe zone, no immunity.
00:00:37I mean, the stakes are high.
00:00:39I did not expect them to say...
00:00:41Double whammy.
00:00:42Amy, you're gone too.
00:00:43Up until this point, Amy ain't never been, like, on the bottom.
00:00:47Yeah.
00:00:48Nobody is off limits.
00:00:50It's only six of us.
00:00:51Anything can happen at this point.
00:01:03Hello, designers.
00:01:04Hello.
00:01:06This is when it gets serious.
00:01:07The final six.
00:01:09Top six.
00:01:11Yes.
00:01:12How are you guys feeling?
00:01:14Nervous.
00:01:14Thankful.
00:01:15Ayana.
00:01:16I am super happy that I'm still here, but I'm cautious.
00:01:21There's some advice for your next challenge.
00:01:23Proceed with caution.
00:01:26I'm really scared that we'll be doing something dangerous.
00:01:29It's going to be a wild ride.
00:01:30Oh, my God.
00:01:31So good luck, and I'll see you back here on the runway.
00:01:34Bye, everybody.
00:01:37Careful.
00:01:39Oh, my God, cars.
00:01:46Oh, cars.
00:01:47It's the Lexus Challenge.
00:01:49There's three beautiful Lexus SUVs.
00:01:52Yes, this is the Lexus Challenge.
00:01:54Give me one.
00:01:57I just hope that the prize is a car because I really like the blue one.
00:02:00Oh, my God.
00:02:01Did they buy me a car?
00:02:02I don't know how to drive, y'all.
00:02:03I really hope there's no driving involved.
00:02:06I just don't want to kill anyone.
00:02:08Uh-oh.
00:02:08Good morning, designers.
00:02:10Good morning.
00:02:10Please join me in giving a very special welcome to Brian Bolane.
00:02:14Brian is the general manager for product and consumer marketing at Lexus.
00:02:18Welcome, Brian.
00:02:19Thank you, too.
00:02:20So, you know, at Lexus, we have a long history of being committed to safety.
00:02:24And to give our drivers the ultimate peace of mind, most new Lexus vehicles feature a suite of standard, advanced
00:02:31safety items that we like to call Lexus Safety System Plus.
00:02:34Now, these are our new 2018 Lexus NX F-Sport SUVs, and they hold the goods for your next challenge.
00:02:42Oh, okay.
00:02:43So, designers, Lexus focuses on safety, but as you know, in fashion, and especially on Project Runway, we're not about
00:02:51playing it safe.
00:02:52That's right.
00:02:53And in that spirit, this will be an unconventional materials challenge.
00:02:59Oh, I love how I'm out of that.
00:03:00Oh, God.
00:03:02That shouldn't be an oh.
00:03:03Oh.
00:03:04It should be an oh.
00:03:05No.
00:03:07I am not the biggest fan of unconventional challenges, but gotta bring it again. I'm not going home. I can't.
00:03:14I just can't.
00:03:15So, designers, packed inside these vehicles, you will find a wide array of materials that have been invented and created
00:03:21with safety in mind.
00:03:23Oh, my gosh.
00:03:27Damn, we gotta make stuff out of cones and hoses.
00:03:30Why?
00:03:31Why, why?
00:03:33Give me some fabric.
00:03:33Okay, I'm down.
00:03:34I don't love unconventional challenges, but I did win the last unconventional materials challenge, so I have the upper hand
00:03:42in that sense.
00:03:43For this challenge, we want you to think outside of your safety zone and deliver looks that do not conform
00:03:49to the rules.
00:03:51So, since this is an unconventional materials challenge, we will not be going to move.
00:03:55Okay.
00:03:56And you will have one day for this challenge, all right?
00:03:59Woo!
00:04:01So, designers, you're going to have three minutes to gather all the unconventional materials that you can.
00:04:06Is everybody ready?
00:04:07Yeah.
00:04:08All right.
00:04:09Go.
00:04:09Go.
00:04:15I know.
00:04:15I want to make a modest look, which means I'm going to need more materials than everyone else.
00:04:18So, I'm grabbing this orange net.
00:04:21I'm grabbing reflectors, hard hats, boats, anything I can get my hands on.
00:04:26Can we get scissors up in here?
00:04:28The material.
00:04:30This is so hard.
00:04:31I'm not going to pull Ayana and grab everything, but I'm going to grab the things that I think I
00:04:37can make things out of, which is very little.
00:04:39Oh, no!
00:04:42Oh, no!
00:04:43I don't want it to be super obvious, like, construction zone.
00:04:47So, I see these knee pads that I grab for, and then I find this, like, giant harness.
00:04:52And then, of course, I grab all of these sparkly reflector things, because who doesn't love glitter?
00:04:58I have a rubber boat.
00:05:00I hate these materials more than I hate the last unconventional challenge.
00:05:06All I can think of is grabbing bungees, tubing, anything that I can use to tie and make knots.
00:05:15I'm okay. Are you okay?
00:05:17I'm fine.
00:05:1930 seconds.
00:05:21Go, go, go, go, go.
00:05:22I need more than three minutes to be running back and forth to a car, to the bucket, to the
00:05:27car, to the bucket.
00:05:28Just pull, Tanya.
00:05:30I'm not built for this.
00:05:32Time is up.
00:05:34All right, everyone.
00:05:39Lucy in the Chocolate Factory.
00:05:41Yes, it is.
00:05:41All right, designers.
00:05:42Back to the workroom.
00:05:44Caution.
00:05:51Walking on it.
00:05:52Oh, lordy.
00:05:53Let me see what my model is.
00:05:54What did you get?
00:05:55Jasmine.
00:05:58Janine!
00:05:59I'm so excited.
00:05:59I had her for my last unconventional challenge, so hopefully this time we can win.
00:06:04I got Misha again.
00:06:05I have Sunita again.
00:06:07I have Michael.
00:06:09Hi, Tim.
00:06:10Hi.
00:06:11Hi, Tim.
00:06:12All right, we're back and you have your materials.
00:06:14Your real goal in this challenge is to transform these materials and have them not look like what they are.
00:06:22You have one day for this challenge and you have until 11 o'clock tonight.
00:06:26Ooh.
00:06:26Okay.
00:06:27With the last challenge, you raise the bar for the judges.
00:06:31You have to keep raising it.
00:06:32Tim still hasn't used his save.
00:06:34I'm kind of hoping that he won't because we are all such strong designers.
00:06:39We shouldn't have to be saved.
00:06:41We just have to continue to push ourselves.
00:06:44Work hard.
00:06:45Hard, hard, hard.
00:06:48Just so much in here.
00:06:52Are these for children?
00:06:54Let's see what we got in here.
00:06:56I'm looking in my container.
00:06:59It looks a little shallow.
00:07:00I have this here.
00:07:01And I'm looking at everyone else and they have like tons and tons and piles of everything.
00:07:12My strategy is to do a little inventory and see what I gravitate towards.
00:07:16I definitely wanted to have like an athletic vibe because the knee pads kind of reminded me of when I
00:07:21rollerbladed and like sporty margarita.
00:07:26Ayana, are you letting out any aggression, anger?
00:07:29I'm done with this.
00:07:32Last week I finally stepped out of the safe zone.
00:07:36The judges liked my quirkiness, playing with scale and dimension.
00:07:39So I know off the back that I want to create volume.
00:07:42I want to make a ball gown.
00:07:44I've crushed up these reflectors to make a mosaic pattern on the front.
00:07:48And then I'm going to sculpt these really strong shoulder pads.
00:07:52Do you know what this is?
00:07:53It's a floating device.
00:07:54Yeah, that'll save your life right there.
00:07:56Then that means this should be able to stop me from going home.
00:07:58Um, I don't know if it will save that type of life.
00:08:04Unconventional materials always bring the most stress.
00:08:07And on top of that, realizing that we're so close to Fashion Week, I don't know, it's a very scary
00:08:12thought.
00:08:14Hi!
00:08:15You look so pretty.
00:08:17My family is the biggest support system for me.
00:08:19I have four sisters.
00:08:21My youngest sister just had a really big surgery.
00:08:24So she's still kind of, like, recovering.
00:08:26Yeah.
00:08:27She has so much tenacity and she has so much strength in her soul.
00:08:30And I think having that mentality here is what's pushing me forward.
00:08:34Why are you crying?
00:08:38I don't know. I didn't realize that much.
00:08:40I miss you till you recover.
00:08:42Stop!
00:08:44You're doing what you want.
00:08:45Now you're smiling a lot more.
00:08:48The fact that I'm here, I hope they understand that it's all for them.
00:08:52This is honestly, like, just my chance to, like, change everything, you know?
00:08:56And I don't want to mess that up.
00:08:59Love you.
00:08:59Bye-bye.
00:09:00Bye-bye.
00:09:04I'm just thinking, what in the hell can I make out of this?
00:09:07From the last non-conventional challenge, I used the roll of vinyl as material.
00:09:11I was able to make something beautiful, but these kind of materials, I don't know.
00:09:15I just don't know.
00:09:17Hey, brother.
00:09:18Can we have a little consultation when you get a sec?
00:09:20Yeah.
00:09:20I've never been challenged like this, ever.
00:09:23I can't just have a black skirt.
00:09:24Like, maybe you can cut this one a bit, but I don't know.
00:09:28I feel like this competition is all about, like, evolving, growing, and improving.
00:09:32And, like, I feel like I'm challenging myself every single week to do something out of the box.
00:09:36But with Brandon, does he have something else to show?
00:09:39I don't know.
00:09:40Is he a one-trick pony?
00:09:44I'm working very fluidly with the bungees at this point.
00:09:48Seeing how I can manipulate them to make them interesting.
00:09:51Ooh, that looks cool.
00:09:53It's already cute.
00:09:53Well, I can't have her just wear ropes and the thongs.
00:09:57Hey.
00:09:57You know.
00:09:58I want to do something bondage-inspired and sexualized, but in a very, very sophisticated way.
00:10:04I know I want to do something, like, fetishy.
00:10:06Like, when I do my menswear, there's such a, like, underground, like, fetish sexuality, and I haven't shown that at
00:10:13all.
00:10:13Yeah.
00:10:13Well, all these chains and ropes, I mean.
00:10:16Michael wants to create this fetish-inspired look.
00:10:19The judges don't like things that are too scandalous or too, like, trashy.
00:10:23It's risky, but we're here to take risks, so go for it, Michael.
00:10:28Was it a little miniskirt?
00:10:29No, this is yoke, because there is has a chunk in the trunk.
00:10:34Trunk in the chunk.
00:10:35Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:10:35What?
00:10:36Trunk in the trunk.
00:10:37Yeah.
00:10:38For this unconventional challenge, I'm using a fire hose.
00:10:42And I happen to have a lot of fabric wrapped around.
00:10:45So I'm, like, lucky, so, like, I'm going to make a crop top.
00:10:50Then I'm going to do a pretty skirt.
00:10:52How are you feeling with your materials?
00:10:54Do you feel like you got enough?
00:10:56No.
00:10:57I mean, I don't have, like, pieces of anything, so, like, I don't know what I'm going to do
00:11:02as far as any type of structure.
00:11:04I have this plastic boat and seat belts.
00:11:08Do something with these buckles.
00:11:10Creatively, it just came to me, let's just make a dress out of all of these seat belts.
00:11:14And I'm also going to use painted bandages to give it more texture.
00:11:20Anybody got any buckles they're not using?
00:11:22I'm not sure what all I'm using yet, honestly.
00:11:25The vibe in the workroom is very tense.
00:11:27No one wants to share.
00:11:29Everyone's looking at everyone else's design.
00:11:31What was you doing with this?
00:11:33Just breaking them.
00:11:34And I'm like, okay, so this is what the competition's starting to feel like.
00:11:38You got any extra belts?
00:11:39I got any extra belts?
00:11:41Nah, I only have two left.
00:11:42I was just seeing if I was doing anything.
00:11:43I probably won't, to be honest.
00:11:45Cough them up, son.
00:11:46I need buckles.
00:11:48Buckles?
00:11:48You need all of them?
00:11:49I don't know how many I want.
00:11:50I mean, I don't want to be like, you know?
00:11:53Oh my God.
00:11:53So it's six of us right now.
00:11:55They are looking for the best of the best.
00:11:57I am terrified thinking that I just do not have enough materials.
00:12:04I'm not sure what I'm doing with those, so I threw another one over there for you.
00:12:08Oh.
00:12:08Well, continue to talk those.
00:12:10Okay.
00:12:10I'm concerned because Kenya has such a small amount of stuff.
00:12:13I don't know.
00:12:13She's just like freaking out, kind of.
00:12:15Margarita, have you have any more of those bandages rolls available?
00:12:19No.
00:12:20Everything I have here is everything I have.
00:12:22Okay.
00:12:23Right now, I'm totally freaking out.
00:12:24The judges, they don't care what we're using.
00:12:28They just want to see fashion hit the runway.
00:12:31Heidi doesn't take any excuses.
00:12:32My heart is racing.
00:12:36Coming up on Project Runway.
00:12:38I think this has the potential for being incredibly chic.
00:12:41Is it just going to look very messy?
00:12:43It's a tough one, Tim.
00:12:45It is so over the top, that was not part of the challenge.
00:12:49No.
00:12:49What is that?
00:12:50This is hot.
00:13:02You think that even in the unconventional, they would pull the that's too simple kind?
00:13:06Depends on what everyone in the rest of the room is doing.
00:13:08This week is an unconventional materials challenge from Lexus.
00:13:12We have to make our luck out of safety materials.
00:13:14I want you to look at this and be like, that's fashion.
00:13:18Not, that is some belt buckles and some rubber boat.
00:13:21Exactly.
00:13:21Everyone is like scared, but I'm not scared.
00:13:25I'm so like, that was this challenge.
00:13:28What's your color scheme?
00:13:30Black and silver.
00:13:31I don't know if that's going to be like, too boring.
00:13:34I'm going all black and I'm hoping that they don't be like, you gave us all black.
00:13:38You know how much they hate black?
00:13:40I'm making a dress out of seat belts.
00:13:43Anna's all black and everyone else has all this color.
00:13:46I'm feeling like a nervous wreck.
00:13:48I just need to like, calm down and get out of my own way.
00:13:52Hey mom.
00:13:53Hey.
00:13:54What are you doing?
00:13:55We had our family reunion.
00:13:58Oh, a family reunion and I ain't there.
00:14:01But you have better things to do.
00:14:03My mom is like, the rock.
00:14:05You know, my mom is so super supportive.
00:14:07Everything good?
00:14:08Yeah, just, you know, trying to keep my spirits up and like, stay focused.
00:14:13Oh, you can do it. You can do it.
00:14:15It feels great to have that support system.
00:14:17I'm still here and I got to bring it.
00:14:21As much as I want to be there with y'all, I need to stay here a little bit longer.
00:14:25We want you to stay here a little bit longer.
00:14:27Love you.
00:14:27Love you too, bye.
00:14:33The top six.
00:14:34I think this is a really good group, but Brandon, Kentaro, Michael and myself were definitely
00:14:40the strongest versus I think Kenya and Ayana have more of a dressmaker point of view.
00:14:45And for me, it all comes down to the taste level.
00:14:53Hi, Tim.
00:14:54Hi, Tim.
00:14:55What?
00:14:57This room looks like an explosion happened.
00:14:59It did.
00:15:00It did, didn't it?
00:15:01How are you all?
00:15:03Good.
00:15:03I'm here to check in with you and I'm eager to hear what you're doing and see what you're
00:15:06doing.
00:15:07Okay.
00:15:08Great.
00:15:09Wow.
00:15:10Margarita, you look so organized.
00:15:12I did a little inventory of what I found.
00:15:14Oh, this is all you?
00:15:14Yes.
00:15:16I had to see what I had to see what I was doing.
00:15:18Good heavens.
00:15:19What's that?
00:15:20This, I don't know what this is.
00:15:22It looks like some sort of.
00:15:23Some sort of seat belt.
00:15:23I like played around with this.
00:15:24And right now, I mean, I'm trying to figure it out for you, but this sits right here.
00:15:28At first, I was dubious, but now that you've done it, I see it.
00:15:32Is it too simple?
00:15:33Because my fear is that it's, you know.
00:15:35No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
00:15:37It's very innovative.
00:15:38It is not even remotely too simple.
00:15:40I'm just concerned, like, I'm not going to do it now.
00:15:43I think you're at a juncture where you're thinking too much.
00:15:46Yeah.
00:15:47Just do it.
00:15:49Okay.
00:15:50So the top is going to be really sleek and fitted.
00:15:52And one of the things that I was looking at was the reflectors.
00:15:55Trying to cover the whole thing with these.
00:15:57Good.
00:15:58And then the bottom of it, I wanted the bottom to be as big as I could possibly get it.
00:16:02Out of what?
00:16:02That.
00:16:03Oh.
00:16:04The concept that I was going with is that I wanted the bottom to look like fire.
00:16:07I think this has the potential for being incredibly chic.
00:16:10Oh, thank you.
00:16:11Can I see this?
00:16:12Yes.
00:16:12I was still kind of debating about how to add the volume, so.
00:16:16I think you let it do what it does organically.
00:16:18Okay.
00:16:19Because I feel like it kind of mimics the shapes a little bit.
00:16:21I don't look as crazy.
00:16:24I don't know.
00:16:24It's like, I don't like it.
00:16:26I decided to take all of the buckles and do a woven pattern and create my textile.
00:16:33Why aren't you weaving it?
00:16:34Why isn't it going in and out, in and out?
00:16:35Well, it'll be, I won't have enough to do it all the way through.
00:16:38Why don't you just put them into either vertical or horizontal strips?
00:16:42Because you'll have more material to work with.
00:16:45Yeah.
00:16:45And is it all going to be black?
00:16:47Yeah.
00:16:48What do I keep saying to you?
00:16:50Turn up the volume.
00:16:51You need to turn up the volume.
00:16:54I'm kind of just working with the bungee cord.
00:16:57Okay.
00:16:58Letting it kind of shape itself.
00:17:00This goes over this?
00:17:01Yeah.
00:17:03I know that I have enough to show him where I want to go with this design.
00:17:07But I'm really scared that Tim might think it's not pushing design far enough.
00:17:12Well, can I be honest with you?
00:17:13Yeah, please.
00:17:14They look like two very different looks.
00:17:16Yeah.
00:17:17I just don't see them together.
00:17:18I mean, I would commit to one or the other and move forward.
00:17:22I think Michael has taken a risk with his look.
00:17:24He's also manipulated the materials probably the least.
00:17:27So I'm worried for him.
00:17:29I mean, it remains to be finished.
00:17:31Yes.
00:17:32But I'm confident you can do it.
00:17:34Okay.
00:17:34So I found this fire hose.
00:17:37And I kind of just took it because I like the color.
00:17:41And I didn't know this expands into actual fabric.
00:17:44So I feel kind of lucky.
00:17:47However...
00:17:48However...
00:17:48It is actual fabric.
00:17:50Yeah.
00:17:52So the point is to transform whatever it is.
00:17:56And this is fabric that you're using as fabric.
00:17:59Mm-hmm.
00:17:59That concerns me tremendously.
00:18:01Like everything I add to it doesn't make you look better.
00:18:05No, I know exactly what you're saying because this is quite beautiful.
00:18:08Yeah.
00:18:08So that's kind of giving me a hard time.
00:18:10Mm-hmm.
00:18:37Mm-hmm.
00:18:40What is...
00:18:41What is this?
00:18:42Are you using it?
00:18:43Yeah.
00:18:43This is the emergency blanket or whatever.
00:18:45How do you feel about this?
00:18:47Is it just going to look very messy compared to this very tailored skirt?
00:18:54Yeah.
00:18:55The final six...
00:18:56I mean, the stakes are high.
00:18:57I mean, it's just such a weird challenge.
00:18:59You have to sculpt and you got to figure out how to make things.
00:19:01I've never been in a state like this.
00:19:04It's the second challenge in a row when you've really been plummoxed.
00:19:06And you were so very able to rally the last time.
00:19:12And quite frankly, standing with you now, I'm worried about what you're actually working on.
00:19:18I have a responsibility to say to you, I'm losing you.
00:19:25It's a tough one, Tim.
00:19:28I don't know.
00:19:29I don't know.
00:19:32Coming up on Project Runway.
00:19:34I think I have to do something that's tough.
00:19:37Don't mind this, man.
00:19:40I have to add something more to this because it's too simple.
00:19:43Grab some pizza and some popcorn because you're going to see a naked girl on Project Runway.
00:19:47We need trouble.
00:19:52One of the things that I think is a signature of yours is that you play so inventively with silhouette.
00:19:59And I don't see that happening here.
00:20:02Right.
00:20:05This one is really, this, it's challenging.
00:20:09The materials, it was, I don't know.
00:20:11I don't like leaving you like this.
00:20:15I will muscle through.
00:20:16All right, keep, just keep developing this and think of an alternative to this.
00:20:22All right, Tim.
00:20:22Okay, carry on.
00:20:23All right, you will. Thank you.
00:20:26Designers, I have seldom had the privilege of working with such incredibly talented designers.
00:20:34And I do not say that casually or lightly.
00:20:36And it makes me sick to think that one of you could potentially leave, but one of you will.
00:20:43So feel that you need to push this because you do.
00:20:48Your models will be in in 19 minutes.
00:20:51You have until 11 o'clock tonight and I will see you in the morning.
00:20:54Thank you, Tim.
00:20:55Go, go, go.
00:20:56Work, work, work.
00:20:57Thanks, Tim.
00:21:08What else are you using?
00:21:09Are you still using this?
00:21:11No.
00:21:11Why?
00:21:12Tim does have a negative reaction to the bralette that I created.
00:21:16I think it's fly as hell.
00:21:18I'll see what it looks like on her.
00:21:20It's kind of all I have to put and cover her boobs.
00:21:24I think don't scrap this.
00:21:25Try it on her.
00:21:27So I'm thinking that I might just stick with it and not have to create an alternative.
00:21:34Can you sew that material?
00:21:36Yeah.
00:21:39Tim's wondering what I'm doing and he's questioning if it's the right thing.
00:21:42I don't even know what to think at this point.
00:21:45I know I got to keep going.
00:21:46I know I got to make something.
00:21:47I think what I'm making is beautiful.
00:21:49He doesn't see it, but I have to keep going.
00:21:52Don't let this rip.
00:21:54Oh.
00:21:55Oh.
00:22:05Ayana's about to make a damn Christmas trip.
00:22:06They're going to be looking at us like, oh, so y'all ain't have enough time?
00:22:10Ayana did all this.
00:22:11But y'all ain't have enough time.
00:22:13I'm just saying, don't be trying to show us up.
00:22:15That's definitely my goal.
00:22:18It ain't, I don't take it personal though.
00:22:20I keep looking over at Ayana's and hers keeps getting
00:22:23bigger and bigger, crazier and crazier.
00:22:26And I'm like, holy , I have to add something more to this
00:22:28cause it's too simple.
00:22:31I decided to work with these hard hats.
00:22:35It's a little sporty and it might just be a little over
00:22:37the top, but it is the unconventional challenge.
00:22:39You can kind of get away with doing something like that.
00:22:52I'll have this ready in like two minutes and then we'll get you
00:22:54fixed.
00:22:55Okay, cool.
00:22:55I'll be in the back.
00:22:57I'm like cutting stuff with saws, like drilling.
00:22:59It's like art school days and like power tools.
00:23:03Power tools?
00:23:04Who does not love a girl that loves power tools?
00:23:06Go, go, go.
00:23:10Kentaro, Kentaro.
00:23:11He has his own hip hop choir.
00:23:15I am stressed out because Tim wasn't happy with it, I guess.
00:23:18But at the end, there's nothing I can come up with.
00:23:21So I had to go back to my original plan.
00:23:24It feel awful, but what am I supposed to do?
00:23:27I think I have to do something with top.
00:23:29Top, maybe I should make a tank top.
00:23:32Kentaro's mind is kind of spaced out right now as far as what
00:23:35he's going to make me.
00:23:37I'm hoping that he goes back to the drawing board and comes
00:23:40back with something fabulous.
00:23:44This is all I love using.
00:23:50I love my look, I think it's stunning.
00:23:54See, this uses my shoulders very well.
00:23:56Awesome.
00:23:57It fits wonderfully.
00:23:58I'm really, really excited.
00:24:00I think it's going to look amazing.
00:24:01This is giving me life right now, so I'm very happy.
00:24:06I like, let's go, let me turn around to the back again.
00:24:09I'm just hoping that these seat belts will understand
00:24:12that I need them to work with me and let's produce something
00:24:15cute so that I can be on the top because I do not like the bottom.
00:24:18I wish I could have you to walk in it, but it's so thick that I can't pin it.
00:24:22I'm thinking like this could be really cool, like on your shoulder.
00:24:25Like, boom, it looks super sharp.
00:24:27My look is pretty interesting.
00:24:29It kind of is giving me Wonder Woman vibes.
00:24:31It seems a little costumey.
00:24:33It's got some elements to it, but it's not structurally looking like an actual garment.
00:24:39Oh my god, girlfriend, I'm excited.
00:24:43I'm going to try so hard not to poke you or stab you.
00:24:47Wow.
00:24:48That's sexy.
00:24:49Anita, stop flirting with me.
00:24:52You're a boogie.
00:24:54I've been dying to work with Michael as a designer.
00:24:57So I'm really excited that finally I get to wear something that he created.
00:25:00But I'm wearing the bungee outfit, and it has nothing underneath.
00:25:04I'm telling you, I'm naked, guys.
00:25:05I'm like naked.
00:25:07So grab some pizza and some popcorn,
00:25:09because you're going to see a naked girl on Project Runway.
00:25:13But this, like, rips so easy.
00:25:15And I have enough to cut, like, two more, so, like...
00:25:17To, like, layer it so it's thicker.
00:25:19Or just, like, in case, like, we rip it right now.
00:25:22This foily top that's really hard to get on,
00:25:26it's very prone to ripping.
00:25:28Oh, it's ripping.
00:25:30By the end of the fitting, it was ripped to shreds.
00:25:33He has to make a whole new shirt.
00:25:35We need trouble.
00:25:38All right, babe.
00:25:39We're going in the morning.
00:25:41We're going to make it work.
00:25:42It's going to be great.
00:25:43Bye, gorgeous ladies.
00:25:44Bye, you're lucky to be back.
00:25:53That top is killer.
00:25:54I swear.
00:25:55I'm so nervous.
00:25:57That top is killer.
00:26:00Did you just say the word simple?
00:26:01Yeah.
00:26:02Did she really just say that?
00:26:03I just keep looking at this, this.
00:26:05I'm making an all-black dress.
00:26:09Shut your face.
00:26:11Just remember, Margarita, when you create for yourself
00:26:14is when you like it the best and when you do your best.
00:26:16You're so right.
00:26:17Sometimes I feel overwhelmed,
00:26:19and I feel like I don't have enough confidence.
00:26:20But Michael, he's really been a comfort for me
00:26:24in the workroom.
00:26:24He's just a genuine guy, and I love him so much.
00:26:27So don't make the mistake of comparing your work to others.
00:26:31True.
00:26:33This could be it.
00:26:35The spoil top, it looks cool, but it's ripping,
00:26:38and I need to make a new top.
00:26:40I have these life jackets that I can sew them together
00:26:44and manipulate it to use it as fabric.
00:26:50Oh, wow.
00:26:51You weren't kidding when you said you did not come to play.
00:26:54I'm actually freaking out.
00:26:55I'm nowhere near done.
00:26:56What else you got to do?
00:26:57A lot.
00:26:59Like what?
00:27:00The most.
00:27:00Huh?
00:27:01I can't talk about it right now.
00:27:03Oh, I'm sorry.
00:27:04It's okay.
00:27:05Carry on.
00:27:07I think at this point, I have to work double time.
00:27:10I don't have that much time to create the skirts.
00:27:12So I'm kind of starting to freak out a little bit,
00:27:14but I work well under pressure.
00:27:16So I need to show that.
00:27:19Awesome.
00:27:28Here, you're injured.
00:27:30I'm injured.
00:27:34I'm injured.
00:27:35By the end of the day, all the time,
00:27:37I feel like we're delirious.
00:27:39Y'all are so dumb.
00:27:42So stupid.
00:27:44This is called when delusion sets in.
00:27:47I think Kentaro is really feeling the pressure,
00:27:49and I think the best thing for me to do is just give Kentaro
00:27:52some face surgery and bandage him up
00:27:55and make sure he looks pretty again.
00:27:58Can you breathe?
00:27:59Mm-hmm.
00:28:00Daily.
00:28:01Because you got a new nose, right?
00:28:02Yeah.
00:28:02I can not handle the bloodiness.
00:28:06Thank you, bitch.
00:28:22Oh, my God.
00:28:24This is awful.
00:28:26Huh?
00:28:26It looks like a stripper outfit.
00:28:28Let me see.
00:28:29Like, this is definitely going.
00:28:31The bag?
00:28:32I don't love the plastic part.
00:28:35Disgusting.
00:28:35But the top part is nice.
00:28:37Disgusting.
00:28:38By the end of the day, I'm definitely seeing
00:28:40that I have a lot of issues with my look,
00:28:42in particular with the dress underneath.
00:28:44I don't know how to make it interesting enough
00:28:46or bring it to the next level.
00:28:49Oh, I hate it.
00:28:50I hate it.
00:28:51All right, guys.
00:28:53It's time to go.
00:28:54No.
00:28:56I'm still really scared that I'm not doing enough
00:28:59to impress the judges this week.
00:29:03Coming up on Project Runway.
00:29:07My hands are drenched in sweat.
00:29:09My entire dress will collapse.
00:29:11This is not right.
00:29:12Oh.
00:29:12Uh-oh.
00:29:13Nope, we gotta take this off.
00:29:15The whole zipper just came off.
00:29:17Oh, my God.
00:29:33I'm trying not to freak out because I have a lot to do.
00:29:36My hand won't stop shaking.
00:29:38I still have to, like, paint, add more of those crystals,
00:29:41like, add them onto the skirt.
00:29:42Hopefully the skirt fits.
00:29:48I just have some finishings to do.
00:29:50I gotta sew on the waistband, which is a seat belt.
00:29:52And then just playing with proportion, playing with the hem,
00:29:55just kind of finessing where the hems fall.
00:29:59I'm really rushing to incorporate a new element in my design.
00:30:03I do have a bit of netting that I can use, but sewing this net
00:30:07is actually really hard.
00:30:12This is so freaking ill-fitting.
00:30:14I feel so screwed right now.
00:30:16I am so nervous that I will not be able to get this done.
00:30:19It's clearly unfinished.
00:30:21Seat belts are free.
00:30:23It's not looking good.
00:30:27Do you have any of these?
00:30:29The balls.
00:30:30I feel like I saw some balls.
00:30:32Was it mine?
00:30:34White?
00:30:34I have white.
00:30:36Black.
00:30:37Spotted.
00:30:40Oh, my God.
00:30:44Kentaro right now is kind of in a similar boat as myself.
00:30:49We're trying to incorporate different elements
00:30:51just to make it look like we did use more than one material.
00:31:00Good morning, everyone.
00:31:02Hey, too.
00:31:05If you're in the Brothers Sewing and Embroidery Studio, please come in.
00:31:09You got it.
00:31:10Just for a minute.
00:31:11All right, everyone.
00:31:12You will have an hour to send your models to the Avon Beauty Lab and to our hair studio.
00:31:17Use the JCPenney accessory wall carefully.
00:31:20Got it.
00:31:21And your models are coming in momentarily.
00:31:23I will see you soon.
00:31:25Thank you, too.
00:31:29Hello.
00:31:30How are you?
00:31:34It's a lot.
00:31:38I feel pretty comfortable in it.
00:31:40The only thing is that I wouldn't wear anything that makes my hips look bigger.
00:31:44But I like it.
00:31:45It's really, really cool.
00:31:47I need to attach a lot more on top of this one.
00:31:50I'm going to cut off, like, more of, like, yellow and orange, and I'm going to hot glue gun to,
00:31:55like, everywhere, so it looks like an interesting dress, I guess.
00:31:59It's cute.
00:32:01All right, but it fits.
00:32:02Thank Jesus.
00:32:04My look has so much inventiveness.
00:32:08The color story is really strong.
00:32:09I think it's graphic.
00:32:11It's actually wearable.
00:32:12I might have a win here, people.
00:32:15Let's spray.
00:32:17I love this spray.
00:32:19I love Brandon's look.
00:32:21Wearing it down the runway, I'm excited.
00:32:23I just hope that you can't see my butt, because it is a little short in the back.
00:32:28Hopefully, we don't have, like, a little flash of the booty.
00:32:34I'm kind of happy.
00:32:35I think Margarita had a fun time doing it, and it shows, but it's very top-heavy.
00:32:40With the bust here, I've noticed we kind of have some slipping going down, so it'll be nerve-wracking walking
00:32:46down the runway.
00:32:47You feel safe?
00:32:49As soon as you get onto the runway, you're going to grab it and throw it, and then you'll walk
00:32:53down.
00:32:53Looking at Ayana's look is just so beyond over-the-top in, like, the worst way possible.
00:32:59She might be in trouble with this one.
00:33:04Awesome, awesome.
00:33:11Okay.
00:33:11Okay.
00:33:12Good.
00:33:13So I want to do a shiny black lip.
00:33:15So what I'm going to grab this is eyeshadow from the A&1 palette.
00:33:19Mix it with this, so that way we get it, like, really dark.
00:33:23And it's still shiny.
00:33:24Perfect.
00:33:25Wow.
00:33:25And I want to have, like, white eyeliner.
00:33:28A&1 champagne white.
00:33:31And a blue mascara.
00:33:34Perfect.
00:33:34There's so much going on with the look.
00:33:36Let's keep it really, really simple.
00:33:38We do a little bit of the brows and really bright lips.
00:33:41Stunning.
00:33:42Awesome.
00:33:43Why did I decide to do the stupidest, hardest thing to put on?
00:33:48My goals is, like, bondage couture.
00:33:50Like, she is just, like...
00:33:52It's probably too sexy for Nina.
00:33:54I'm going to trim it, so it's not going to be that long.
00:33:57Hmm.
00:33:58Now I have an outfit.
00:33:59With no clothes, it was sexy.
00:34:01But with all of this, everything fits.
00:34:04It goes together.
00:34:05And I'm not naked, so I'm pretty happy about that.
00:34:10My first thought is, oh, my God, she looks like a doll.
00:34:13Lyris looks like a doll.
00:34:14I'm not sure what the judges will think.
00:34:15This guy is cute.
00:34:17Hmm.
00:34:19I like the skirt, but the top, he's just clueless.
00:34:23I look like Pocahontas is about to go play football.
00:34:28Designers, in ten minutes, you and your models and I are going down to the runway.
00:34:33Ten minutes, thank you.
00:34:37Could I have you, like, hold it again?
00:34:40My hands are, like, drenched in sweat, and it's pretty impossible to zip the dress up.
00:34:45And if she walks out with a half-open zipper, my entire dress will collapse.
00:34:51This is not right.
00:34:54Uh-oh.
00:34:56My sleeve falls off.
00:34:58What is this?
00:34:59Nope, we got to take this off.
00:35:00I was running so late that I just kind of glued the bottom part of the sleeve, and I knew
00:35:04it was a risk.
00:35:05I literally put these on seconds before the end of the night.
00:35:08I am very concerned that this sleeve might fall off when she goes to rip the caution tape off, but
00:35:12I'm not willing to give up that effect.
00:35:15I literally have, like, five minutes at this point.
00:35:18Oh!
00:35:20The whole zipper just came off.
00:35:23My zipper has just broken.
00:35:26I'm devastated.
00:35:28I don't know what to do.
00:35:29All right, everyone.
00:35:30Is that Tim?
00:35:31That's Tim?
00:35:32Designers and models were headed down to the runway.
00:35:34I'm scared for Kenya.
00:35:36The whole back of her garment, zipper-less, any mistake can send you home.
00:35:40This is the top six, and it's just a simple black dress with a broken zipper.
00:35:44I could easily be on the bottom.
00:35:46My heart is racing.
00:35:49Coming up on Project Runway.
00:35:51I adore this.
00:35:52She could have just been wearing that in a trash bag, and I would have loved it.
00:35:55It's just very cool.
00:35:56I see a lack of vision.
00:35:58You went a little too far with it.
00:36:01Yeah, I'm not a fan.
00:36:07How are you today?
00:36:12Rolling.
00:36:14Speeding.
00:36:14Whenever you're ready, Ryan.
00:36:25Hello.
00:36:26Hello.
00:36:27Welcome to the runway.
00:36:28As you know in fashion, one day you're in, and the next day you're out.
00:36:32There's six of you here, and after tonight there will be five.
00:36:37Well, this is when it gets all very, very real.
00:36:41Every single stitch counts.
00:36:44There's no more room for error.
00:36:46This was the unconventional materials challenge, and I love the unconventional materials challenge.
00:36:52I think that they really push you to really think outside of the box.
00:36:55You use safety materials to create fashion suitable for this very runway.
00:37:02All right, let's say hello to our judges.
00:37:04First, we have creative director of Brooks Brothers Women and Fashion Designer, Zach Posen.
00:37:08Hi, designers.
00:37:09Creative director for Marie Claire Magazine, Nina Garcia.
00:37:12Hello, designers.
00:37:13And star of the hit series, Mr. Robot, Carly Shakin.
00:37:17Welcome.
00:37:19Hi, Carly.
00:37:19Also, we have Tim Gunn here for the runway show.
00:37:22Hi, Tim.
00:37:23Hi, Tim.
00:37:23And as you know, he's your mentor and will not be judging your looks.
00:37:26He will have the Tim Gunn safe.
00:37:28If at some point during the competition he disagrees with the judges, then he can bring
00:37:32that eliminated designer back to the competition.
00:37:35Tim, I think this is challenge 10.
00:37:38It is.
00:37:39And you have not used your safe.
00:37:40We're getting closer and closer though, Heidi.
00:37:42Okay.
00:37:42It is a little bit of a nail biter, isn't it?
00:37:44Oh, yeah.
00:37:45We also have an anonymous runway show.
00:37:47That means we, the judges, do not know which designer created which look.
00:37:51All right, let's start the show.
00:38:04It's moving nice.
00:38:05I think it has like a lot of flow, even though the materials are so rough and rugged.
00:38:09And I feel a thousand times more confident with the skirts, not too many.
00:38:13So I'm feeling great about it.
00:38:29I'm not happy like the one I made, but I feel like it's kind of like good enough.
00:38:34It doesn't look that bad.
00:38:47Okay, okay.
00:38:49I'm pretty happy with what I created.
00:38:52As simple as it is and as minimal as it may seem, I know that I have a very strong
00:38:56concept
00:38:57in my head and I'm very pleased with what I produced today.
00:39:19Misha looks amazing.
00:39:21Everything that I wanted to bring, it's right in front of me.
00:39:25The mosaic is sparkling.
00:39:26I freaking love it.
00:39:41She looks great.
00:39:43My dress came out pretty much the way I expected.
00:39:46It's a little bit weird because I made the hips kind of wide.
00:39:50The texture is amazing.
00:39:51But I like it.
00:39:53I really think that it looks really, really good.
00:40:03My look has so much inventiveness to it.
00:40:08I want my imagination to allow me to go places like this.
00:40:11That harness placement is fire.
00:40:14I'm so happy I did this look.
00:40:16It's really cool and very colorful.
00:40:19I'm just so excited.
00:40:20I want to wear it.
00:40:21It's so badass.
00:40:29We have just learned which designer created which look.
00:40:32I have to say all of you did a really amazing job today.
00:40:35There's nothing really there that we don't like.
00:40:44But not like hate-hate like we sometimes do.
00:40:47No.
00:40:49One of you will be named the winner.
00:40:52And one of you will be out.
00:41:06Brandon, tell us about your look and the materials that you used.
00:41:10The base of the skirt and then the half portion of the top is made from a life raft.
00:41:14Then this here was a hose that I cut to a geo pattern.
00:41:18Just kind of playing with shape here and using the hose again to form shape.
00:41:22And how was this challenge for you?
00:41:24At first I didn't know what to do and I was like trying to like sculpt.
00:41:27Was it really hard to sew this?
00:41:29Yeah, it was tough.
00:41:30I was getting used to it and I worked it and yeah.
00:41:33I adore this.
00:41:35So spectacular work.
00:41:37Love you working with alternative materials.
00:41:39I think it forces you to play with color.
00:41:42Definitely.
00:41:42It forces you to play with unusual textures.
00:41:45Definitely.
00:41:46Beautiful.
00:41:46Can she turn to the side?
00:41:48A little short on the back.
00:41:50Yeah.
00:41:50However, I just think this was like the top of the top.
00:41:55I love seeing you play with movement.
00:42:00Because usually your clothes are very rigid.
00:42:04When she walked down the runway, it was just moving beautifully.
00:42:08You almost created a print, but it feels very street.
00:42:14I really loved it.
00:42:15I loved it too.
00:42:16It kind of is flirty, but it is hard at the same time.
00:42:20The wrist thing was the first thing that I was like, what is that?
00:42:25It looked like a phone charger, but I love what you did with all the lines.
00:42:29And just the placement of all the colors and the placement of the orange patches.
00:42:35I thought it was all great.
00:42:37I want that top.
00:42:39Michael, tell us about your look and the materials that you used.
00:42:42The majority was bungee cord.
00:42:44I did the interior bralette out of the harness strapping.
00:42:48The skirt was all out of ace bandages.
00:42:51But my basic inspiration was kind of beautifying bondage.
00:42:55Yeah, Michael, unfortunately, this is not one of my favorite looks.
00:42:58It lacks drama.
00:43:01This was the unconventional material challenge.
00:43:04This is about freedom.
00:43:06This is about creativity.
00:43:07And this feels like a bandage dress.
00:43:10She looks like a backup dancer for a music video.
00:43:16To be very blunt, I think it's very hooker-ish.
00:43:20Looks a little tacky and cheap.
00:43:23Yeah, I'm not a fan.
00:43:25I do kind of think she looks hot, but when you do compare your look to everyone else's,
00:43:30it looks like you didn't work as hard.
00:43:33Yeah.
00:43:33The blue color pops.
00:43:35I like that color and that texture, and that's kind of about it.
00:43:39That line that's like smushing her boobs across, it's pushing it down and it's making this bralette not fit.
00:43:48I'm pretty disappointed here.
00:43:51Kenya.
00:43:52I had two things.
00:43:53I had a plastic boat and I had a ton of seat belts.
00:43:58I took the seat belts and I came up with this idea to make a dress of it.
00:44:02And I used a boat as structure to create the shape of the dress.
00:44:07And then I added a little bit of paint to give it a little bit of more texture, kind of
00:44:11like a textile.
00:44:13I think this is very good.
00:44:14It has a lot of great detail.
00:44:16The little hat that you made for her, I love that the seat belt is actually the belt.
00:44:20Just simple, boom, there it is.
00:44:22I don't know, in the back, you couldn't really close it.
00:44:25The zipper broke as soon as I put it on her.
00:44:27It broke.
00:44:28But I think you created a really cool dress made out of seat belts.
00:44:33What I'm impressed by is that then you painted over the material and that created dimension.
00:44:39I think you have to watch the shapes, not the most refined, but it was successful today.
00:44:45This is an example of how you can do drama and you don't need to put everything in the kitchen
00:44:51sink.
00:44:52It is just a black dress.
00:44:55But the drama comes in the silhouette, in the shine, and this stiffness to the dress.
00:45:01It's part of that exaggerated silhouette.
00:45:04So it worked.
00:45:06It was a high marks.
00:45:09I agree with Nina.
00:45:10Like, you did keep it very classic and simple.
00:45:13I really, really like it.
00:45:15I think it's great.
00:45:16Thank you, Kenya.
00:45:18Ayana.
00:45:19My look was intended to pull out all the stops and take risks.
00:45:23The materials that I used are a lifeguard float to make the shoulder pads reflectors to get broken glass mosaic
00:45:30effect.
00:45:30This net is what road workers use to kind of separate areas.
00:45:34I stitched together some danger tape to make her hijab out of.
00:45:38This look is so fantastic.
00:45:40It is so over the top.
00:45:42I just love it.
00:45:43I love the hard hat that really gives it the extra oomph.
00:45:47It's sleek.
00:45:48It's modern.
00:45:48It's chic.
00:45:50This is hot.
00:45:51This was bold.
00:45:53This was big.
00:45:54I like you using alternative materials.
00:45:56It has a real tactile quality.
00:45:58I personally felt that the top is a teeny bit outdated.
00:46:01It's given me a little bit of like an 80s thing.
00:46:03It's a little cliche, the top.
00:46:05But in general, I think this is superb work.
00:46:08She looked really like she was on fire.
00:46:11I love the wrapping of her headdress.
00:46:15I thought there was tremendous manipulation of the skirt, the sense of drama, the sense of elegance.
00:46:23My favorite part actually is the pop of blue at the top.
00:46:27Like as subtle as it is, just tied all of the colors together too.
00:46:31Really, really cool.
00:46:32Margarita, tell us about your look.
00:46:34I was very inspired by the Lexus cars.
00:46:37They're super high gloss and chic, so I kind of wanted to create a cocktail dress that had that vibe.
00:46:44First, I used the caution tape and I wove it.
00:46:48I attached these reflectors and then on top, these are knee pads.
00:46:53These pieces are hard hats that I sawed off.
00:46:56And this piece was like a safety harness that was really big.
00:46:59I had fun.
00:47:00It was really fun to experiment with a lot of different things.
00:47:03I really like this Margarita.
00:47:04I'm getting a superhero vibe from her.
00:47:08It was innovative.
00:47:09I love the use of the reflectors, the straps.
00:47:13It's just very cool.
00:47:15I kind of almost wish you brought a tiny, like more of that blue and a hint of that into
00:47:19the skirt maybe or something.
00:47:21But the shoulders on that with the hard hat, she could have just been wearing that in a trash bag
00:47:25and I would have loved it.
00:47:27I loved it too.
00:47:29I think this girl is very modern.
00:47:30I feel like you could mix her into some of the shows that you see in Paris right now and
00:47:35she would fit right in.
00:47:37This was a high for me today.
00:47:38The textile you created was really inventive.
00:47:41It creates dimension.
00:47:43It's graphic.
00:47:45I like what you did with the helmet on the shoulders.
00:47:47Your use of materials is really quite wonderful.
00:47:51However, I will say that it was giving me a little bit of a teenage mutant ninja turtle vibe.
00:47:59We've seen now a bunch of your work.
00:48:01So, even though this was successful for me, I don't still have an idea of what your style is.
00:48:09You know, we saw...
00:48:09You'll have to see a collection.
00:48:11Well, I know, but I don't know what you have to say about fashion.
00:48:15It's not a tight aesthetic yet for me.
00:48:19Kentaro.
00:48:20I used a fire horse.
00:48:22I wanted to make layers of fringe.
00:48:24These yellow parts are made out of yellow corn.
00:48:26This is one I created.
00:48:28This is not one of my favorite outfits.
00:48:31I see a lack of vision.
00:48:33I just don't know when you decided to take the direction that you wanted this to look like a Native
00:48:39American costume.
00:48:41That was not part of the challenge.
00:48:43No.
00:48:43She almost looks like a doll.
00:48:45Like, it's all a little bit too stiff.
00:48:47If her hair was in a sleeked back pony and she had simpler shoes on, it would have made all
00:48:53the difference in the world.
00:48:54It's not, to me, very fashion-y.
00:48:57And it just feels a little basic.
00:49:01I love that you used a fire hose.
00:49:03I think that play that you did between using the fringing and the graphic pattern and the text is all
00:49:10you needed.
00:49:10The other elements on top of it and the piping kind of brought a kitsch element to it.
00:49:18I also feel that the top is not fitting so beautifully.
00:49:22Not your best work today.
00:49:25Lyris, how do you feel in it?
00:49:26There's a piece that, like, cuts my arm here.
00:49:29Yeah, it's like fiberglass, right?
00:49:31Yeah.
00:49:31Yeah, it's fiberglass.
00:49:32I've never seen you this uncomfortable.
00:49:34Fibers in her armpit.
00:49:36It's making me itchy.
00:49:40Thank you, Kentaro.
00:49:42Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
00:49:44We're going to take a closer look at your designs, have a little chat, and then I call you back
00:49:48onto the runway.
00:49:49Now you can leave the runway.
00:50:02Oh, boy.
00:50:04I feel like my heart is going to fall out my shirt.
00:50:11So, you are me, Michael.
00:50:14I really do think you'll stay.
00:50:15Mine was Pocahontas, so.
00:50:18I knew from the beginning that I was just using bungees, you know?
00:50:22She looked really beautiful.
00:50:24I think so.
00:50:25I still really like it.
00:50:27Judges were asking my model, do you feel comfortable?
00:50:30Of course it's uncomfortable.
00:50:31It's crunchy stuff.
00:50:33Yeah.
00:50:34Yeah.
00:50:36The winner of Project Runway will receive the opportunity to collaborate with JCPenney on a limited edition capsule collection as
00:50:42part of the Project Runway line sold at select JCPenney stores and online at JCP.com.

00:51:13$100,000 to launch their line, and the winning designer and model will receive a fashion spread in Marie Claire
00:51:18magazine.
00:51:21Ready?
00:51:22Okay, let's go.
00:51:23Ben, we need light.
00:51:25Quiet, please.
00:51:26Here we go.
00:51:27We're going to try this.
00:51:27We're going to roll.
00:51:28Here we go.
00:51:29In three, two, go ahead.
00:51:30Come on out.
00:51:31Here we come, and it's not easy with the steps.
00:51:34No.
00:51:35Well, shall Misha come out first wearing Ayana?
00:51:40She can't hear.
00:51:42Wow, wow, wow.
00:51:45Just incredible.
00:51:46I need to touch this.
00:51:47This is just insane.
00:51:49And what is this?
00:51:50A raft.
00:51:51Like an inflatable raft.
00:51:53Is that what she can think?
00:51:53And look how she sewed that.
00:51:55This is unbelievable, and I love the textile underneath.
00:51:58It's the combination what makes it special.
00:52:00She used so many different materials.
00:52:03Look at that.
00:52:03She painted that inside.
00:52:05It's really extraordinary.
00:52:07The blue, though, balances that.
00:52:10I think it just...
00:52:11We know you love that blue.
00:52:12I love the blue.
00:52:13Really fun.
00:52:15Great.
00:52:18Janine wearing margarita.
00:52:21It looks better close up.
00:52:22Yeah.
00:52:23Yeah, this is phenomenal.
00:52:25Oh, this was painted.
00:52:27She actually used the shavings from the helmet.
00:52:29Oh.
00:52:30Right.
00:52:30To create the texture.
00:52:31Very nice.
00:52:32Once again, the blue.
00:52:33Just...
00:52:34Carly loves the blue.
00:52:35I love the blue.
00:52:36Can you tell me?
00:52:37It's a great look.
00:52:37It's a great look.
00:52:38I think the straps are so strategically placed.
00:52:43It's beautiful.
00:52:44Yeah.
00:52:44It's really well executed.
00:52:49And Jasmine is wearing Brandon.
00:52:51Can you take that top off so I can put it on?
00:52:53I'm just kidding.
00:52:55Cool.
00:52:56He really worked with the material.
00:52:58It's very cool, like, where he placed everything.
00:53:01Yeah.
00:53:01Where he placed the stripes, where he placed the orange.
00:53:04Created a border here.
00:53:06This is such a feminine take for him.
00:53:08I have to say, as a designer, Brandon is very, very thoughtful.
00:53:12Yeah.
00:53:12You can tell, Tim.
00:53:13Very thoughtful.
00:53:14I want to see a runway show from Brandon.
00:53:20Sunita is wearing Kenya.
00:53:22Oh, I love how she painted this.
00:53:24That's great.
00:53:24It's nice that she did that.
00:53:25It gives it more dimension.
00:53:26This was so thoughtful, where she placed the hardware.
00:53:30Yeah.
00:53:31Obviously, she had a crazy time with that zipper.
00:53:33I don't know how I feel about this hat.
00:53:35I hate it.
00:53:36I don't know whether I like it or I hate it.
00:53:37I hate it.
00:53:38Why?
00:53:38I feel like it gives it more of a look.
00:53:41I don't know.
00:53:42I think it cheapens it.
00:53:47And we have Christina wearing Michael.
00:53:49The hooker has arrived.
00:53:50Yeah.
00:53:51She sat out.
00:53:52Street walker.
00:53:52This is the second time I've been called a hooker.
00:53:54It's not personal.
00:53:55I will say the lips, that blue there.
00:53:58You really are.
00:53:59Let me guess.
00:54:00I don't know.
00:54:01It looks uncomfortable.
00:54:02See, I'm not hating it.
00:54:04I am.
00:54:04I do hate it.
00:54:05I hate it.
00:54:05I don't like it very much.
00:54:07I just don't think there's an interesting vision here.
00:54:11This is just crazy.
00:54:12And it's not so revolutionary.
00:54:15Haven't we seen these blondish dresses?
00:54:16Or even like this.
00:54:17By everybody.
00:54:18By everyone.
00:54:19This is the only thing that interests me.
00:54:22It's your butt.
00:54:23Thanks, girl.
00:54:25I wonder, has he given up?
00:54:27He was working very hard.
00:54:28Really?
00:54:28He was.
00:54:28But you can't see it.
00:54:29It doesn't look like it, right?
00:54:30No, you can't see it.
00:54:32Well, I think he struggled with elements of it.
00:54:34But it is about the end result.
00:54:38Shall we have Lyrus come forward?
00:54:41I don't really like this.
00:54:42I didn't come here to see a costume.
00:54:44From the hair, to the fringe, to the Navajo detail here.
00:54:49I just wish he didn't even put these on it.
00:54:51It's so like, oh, let's cut something up and put it on for the color.
00:54:55Yeah.
00:54:56To his credit, it's sure perfection, each thing that's made.
00:54:59The zipper's put in immaculately.
00:55:01But then why are these just stuck on?
00:55:03For me, it's the shoes and the hair.
00:55:05Yeah, it's cheesy.
00:55:07I don't get it.
00:55:08Doesn't feel that inspired.
00:55:09Yeah, this looks like project tailoring.
00:55:15Okay, so we made our decision.
00:55:19Let's bring them back out.
00:55:31One of you will be named the winner.
00:55:33And one of you will be out.
00:55:42Designers, this unconventional materials challenge was probably one of the most successful ones that we have seen.
00:55:48And you should all be proud of yourselves.
00:55:51Ayana, the amount of work that you put into this garment really blew us away.
00:55:57Your look was dramatic and beautiful.
00:56:00You really took this challenge and you ran with it.
00:56:03Margarita, your dress looked phenomenal.
00:56:06The straps that were so strategically placed.
00:56:09I would say the top was our favorite part.
00:56:12Brandon, once again, you really delivered something cool for this challenge.
00:56:16What you did was very thoughtful and we loved your take on unconventional street style.
00:56:23Kenya, the touches of hardware, they were very smart.
00:56:27Your model looked polished and refined.
00:56:29And the black was actually a nice surprise.
00:56:33Ayana.
00:56:36Congratulations.
00:56:37You are the winner of this challenge.
00:56:44You can leave the runway.
00:56:46Thank you so much.
00:56:52I'm so excited to win again.
00:56:55I really needed two wins under my belt.
00:56:58I feel like I definitely belong here.
00:57:02And I cannot wait to continue to wow the judges.
00:57:08It's me celebrating me.
00:57:15Margarita, Brandon, Kenya, you're all in.
00:57:21And then you can leave the runway.
00:57:30Michael, Cantaro, one of you will be out.
00:57:36Michael, you said it yourself.
00:57:37You didn't do enough for this challenge.
00:57:39Your dress lacked imagination and you had a really great model.
00:57:44But she even ended up looking cheap.
00:57:47Cantaro.
00:57:49And you, you gave us costume today.
00:57:53It was the matchy-matchy styling that really took the whole look down.
00:57:57It was uninspired.
00:57:59And at this point, we really expect more from you.
00:58:09Michael.
00:58:11I'm sorry you're out.
00:58:15I honestly really appreciate everything.
00:58:17All the really honest feedback.
00:58:19And it's something that I will definitely not take for granted.
00:58:23And I appreciate all of the time that I've had here.
00:58:27Cantaro, that means you're in.
00:58:29You can leave the runway.
00:58:37I'm sorry, Michael.
00:58:41All the best to you.
00:58:42Thank you guys so much.
00:58:44I am disappointed to be leaving the competition.
00:58:47But the fact that I made it really far and I made amazing connections with the rest of the designers.
00:58:53I'm just very honored to have been in the same platform as all of them.
00:59:02I'm not really happy at all.
00:59:04The only thing that sucks is that I'm leaving you guys to come here and everyone have like a like
00:59:10passion.
00:59:11It meant a lot.
00:59:12I just think you're such a great, great collaborator and I'm going to miss you.
00:59:16Sorry.
00:59:23You know, this is only going to get more emotional.
00:59:25But I want to say this before you leave.
00:59:27You're going home on a high.
00:59:28I mean, you've had two wins behind you.
00:59:30So you should feel great.
00:59:31Absolutely.
00:59:33But we will miss you.
00:59:34We will.
00:59:35Bye, homies.
00:59:36So I have to send you to the work room to clean up your space, regrettably.
00:59:41You're going to be awesome, brother.
00:59:42Take care.
00:59:44We're going to miss you.
00:59:45Great designer.
00:59:48And we will hear more from you.
00:59:49Thank you so much.
00:59:50Thank you, Michael.
00:59:51Bye.
00:59:51Have fun.
00:59:52Bye, Michael.
00:59:54It's like losing a family member.
00:59:58The experience in Project Grow Way was honestly the greatest experience I could have had as a creative person.
01:00:05I am more than happy to continue to create and continue to be surrounded by creative people.
01:00:12That's honestly all I've ever wanted.
