00:14The judge said it's resort-y. I'm like, yeah, duh. That's me. You want my aesthetic? It's
00:20tropical. You can take the girl out of the traffic, but you can't take the traffic out
00:23of the girl. You know what I mean? I've put my everything into Project Runway. I mean,
00:28I quit my job, so I'm putting everything on the line for a really big win.
00:35I feel good. I feel like I did what I needed to back home. I feel prepared. I feel confident.
00:40I'm
00:41ready to win the whole thing. I'm ready. I can't focus. My mind's somewhere else. I'm thinking
00:48about Puerto Rico. There's a massive hurricane on its way to hit the island, and I'm scared.
00:57Hi, Tim. Hi. I'm here to check in with you, all right? Margarita, first things first,
01:05we're with you in spirit and with your family, too, and making only positive thoughts. How
01:10are you feeling about all this? Mixed. Yeah, I'm sure. It's like I have all this other stuff
01:14on my mind, but then there's that. It's a lot to be processing at the moment. But on a lighter
01:20note. Your collection. After that critique, I feel confused. The print on that cusp of being hideous.
01:29You have to make sure also that the whole thing doesn't look too tropical. I'm from Puerto Rico.
01:36My name is Margarita. This is a customer who would wear each and every one of these looks. That's how
01:42I
01:42feel, too. And also, like, I stand by it. Right. And I stand with you strongly. Okay. Carry on. Will
01:49do. Thank you, Margarita. Thank you. Ayana. Hi. So what did you hear the judges say? They kind of
01:57talked about me styling with the head wraps instead of just like a simple wrap, like kind of like what
02:01I've been doing. What are you going to do about the head wraps? Well, I think they maybe want something
02:06that's a little bit more showy. I'm very confident. Okay. I feel good. You should. All right. Thank
02:12you, Tony. Kentaro. Hi. Hi. What did you hear the judges say? It wasn't cohesive. And you knew that? Yes.
02:20And
02:20how are you responding to that? So this is a top I made for this one. And I brought it
02:26here to start
02:28this collection, black and white. And sort of like I kind of wanted to do white at the end. Kind
02:33of sweeping
02:34away everything I have done. I was going to make something new to make it work. Well,
02:40you still have a lot of fittings. Fitting is going to be okay. All right. Yeah, I believe.
02:45I'm glad you're confident. Yeah. So. Brandon, how are you doing? I'm doing good. What did you
02:52take away from the judges critique? Get rid of the top for layers. I do not care for this top.
02:58It
02:58really jumps out because everything else is so crisp. And this feels like a throwaway look. And I
03:04agreed. You know, I didn't think it was the most flattering. And then, I mean, the rest,
03:07I feel good. I feel confident. It's just really about this fitting, getting them in here. And
03:13I feel like I'll work my magic once they're... Well, you constantly do, that's for sure. Thank
03:19you, Brandon. Thank you. All right, designers. My advice to each of you is the same. Stay on
03:27your path. All right. I will see you tomorrow. All right. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank
03:34you. Coming up on Project Runway.
03:44Absolutely stunning. Wow, this is beautiful. I am incredibly impressed. Hallelujah. All of you put on a
03:51great show, but only one of you will be the winner of Project Runway season 16.
04:05Oh, goodness. I love how they told me to edit myself, right? Like, all I want to do is add
04:16more stuff. I want to put feathers and fringe. Didn't Tim say to, like, own it? That's what
04:25I'm saying. Hi, cuties. Hey, hey, hey. Gentle. Gentle. Hand beaded. They might fall. How do you feel?
04:37I think it does look better. I feel like Brandon has a cohesive collection. The only thing that I'm a
04:46little worried about is does he have a wow moment? It's up to you. Share collection.
04:55Whoa. I like how this dress makes sound. Misha. Okay. Let's get you in shoes first and then we'll get
05:03you in your
05:04look. I thought it would be pretty awesome to have you close the show. Tim is all about the...
05:10It's Project Runway. We should have a runway moment.
05:20Yeah. I love it. My vibes are good. You know, I'm definitely in the good spot and it's been a
05:27hell of an experience here at Project Runway.
05:30Congratulations. You are the clear winner of this challenge. You are the winner of this challenge. Congratulations. You are the
05:37winner of this challenge.
05:39Thank you so much. It feels amazing. I love that smile on your face.
05:44Winning time after time, it helped me. It helped me build my confidence and I know my aesthetic and I've
05:50stayed true to that. So I'm just thankful for everything and it's going to be great.
05:55Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'll just work one by one through it.
06:00Ayana, how are you doing time-wise? Are you thinking I have time to...
06:02Um, actually, I feel like I'm doing pretty good and I'm just trying to make it look better.
06:08Ayana's look is very cohesive. I think this is what Tim wanted me to do. Then I didn't do it.
06:15Again, I feel like I'm losing.
06:21Did your family make it out, Margarita? I don't know. They didn't have power yesterday. I mean, the power's cut
06:29off. It'll probably take like four months.
06:34I'm just trying to keep it together and not lose it. Because I feel at peace with what I've done.
06:39And I don't think I would change this experience for anything else in the world.
06:44Super cute!
06:49Hi, everyone.
06:50Hey.
06:50Hi, Tim.
06:51Something occurred to me. I don't think we've had a single gather round this entire season, but we're going to
06:57have one now. Everyone gather round. This is an important, big moment.
07:09I just want you all to know how proud I am of each and every one of you. You should
07:16feel so fantastically proud of what you've achieved. And just know that in the end, it's going to be a
07:23matter of taste with the judges. And we have absolutely no control over that. And that's the way that we
07:27want it. Let's have a group hug.
07:31Throughout my Project Runway experience, I feel like Tim really pushed me to be my best self.
07:36All for one, one for all. Yay, Project Runway! Yay!
07:41I will see you dark and early in the morning. Pack up, get some rest.
07:45I love you all. Take care.
07:51This is it. It's the last day. A lot of blood, sweat, and tears up in this room.
07:59All right, we gotta go. We have to early morning and all that good stuff.
08:02Big day tomorrow.
08:04I, like, really want to wake up every day and love what I do and do what I love.
08:10Winning Project Runway will just solidify that possibility.
08:15It would change my life.
08:27Good morning.
08:29Good morning.
08:30Good morning.
08:31Are you guys excited?
08:32I'm so excited.
08:35I couldn't sleep like Christmas.
08:37I know. I struggled to sleep, too.
08:40Winning Project Runway would be just amazing.
08:43It would validate me as a designer and the clothes I like to make, and it would mean the world.
08:48Good luck, everybody.
08:51Showing my collection at New York Fashion Week is, like, beyond my dream.
08:55But now I'm doing it, so I'm super happy.
09:10Let's do it.
09:11Let's do it.
09:13Let's do it.
09:13Let's get to work.
09:16Hey, everybody.
09:18Did you see that runway?
09:19No, I haven't seen it.
09:20Oh, my God.
09:23Backstage is crazy.
09:24It's nuts.
09:25It's too much.
09:26For the braids, like, can we just have it at four?
09:28Sure.
09:29There's, like, 55 people doing hair and makeup.
09:32Models everywhere.
09:33A lot of moving parts happening back here.
09:38You have everything ready?
09:40Yeah, I'm ready.
09:41I'm happy that the judges encouraged me to do this, because it's kind of fun.
09:44If I can nail my hijab styles, I feel like I have a really, really strong shot at winning.
09:50Gotta move a little bit faster.
09:57Designers, you have one hour.
09:59My steamer's not working.
10:01These irons, what is this?
10:02We're all like, what the ?
10:03We keep blowing the fuses.
10:05Hello.
10:07And hold on a second.
10:08I feel very good.
10:09I'm not stressed out.
10:11Ooh, pockets.
10:12It is heavenly situation.
10:14No problem at all.
10:16You guys look beautiful.
10:22Five minutes, everyone.
10:24Five minutes.
10:26Is that too tight?
10:27So are you all right?
10:27It's good.
10:28It's good.
10:29The only reason why I came on this show was to win.
10:31And I felt I could from the beginning.
10:33And so, I'm gonna win.
10:42Stand by for judges.
10:45Here we go.
10:46And walking out.
10:47And action, judges.
11:09Coming up on Project Runway.
11:11Bravo.
11:12It was a very powerful show.
11:13Wow, this is beautiful.
11:15What is this?
11:16What's gonna happen now?
11:25Here we go, and walking out.
11:29Hello, everybody.
11:30Welcome to season 16 of Project Runway.
11:37We're celebrating our sweet 16, and we're very, very excited.
11:42We're also celebrating models of all sizes for the very first time.
11:47Yes.
11:51Because fashion is for everyone.
11:55Now, I would like to introduce to you our Project Runway judges.
11:58We have Zach Posen.
12:02The lovely Nina Garcia.
12:08And our special guest judge for today, the beautiful Jessica Alba.
12:16Yeah.
12:16However it's falling.
12:18Live it.
12:18Yeah.
12:19Let it.
12:20Natural.
12:20Nothing forced.
12:21My heart's beating out of my chest.
12:23I'm nervous, but, like, excited nervous energy.
12:26This just solidifies all the effort, all the sacrifices.
12:30Being here just makes all of that worth it.
12:33I can't wait to see what our amazing designers have created for all of you.
12:37Enjoy the show, everyone.
12:39Thank you so much for coming today.
12:47Hey, everybody!
12:49The title of my collection is called A Fish Out of Water.
12:52And it tells the story of an island girl living in the city,
12:56leaving her home and living a new life.
12:58I want to dedicate this collection to my family, the Alvarez,
13:02and to my beautiful Puerto Rico.
13:04Enjoy.
13:22Knock them dead from the very beginning.
13:29I'm just beyond happy with what I came up with,
13:33and I think it's just going to make everybody smile.
13:49Here she comes.
13:51Yes, queen!
14:09Wow.
14:10There she is!
14:11My moment!
14:12Wow.
14:16Yeah!
14:17Yeah!
14:18Go, go, go!
14:22Yeah!
14:25Yeah!
14:27Yeah!
14:27Yeah!
14:28Yeah!
14:28Yeah!
14:29Yeah!
14:30Yeah!
14:39I want to be the next Carolina Herrera.
14:42I want to be the next Oscar de la Renta.
14:43Latin American designers are known to be really talented,
14:48and I just want to continue that legacy.
14:59I'm really, really happy that I didn't give up
15:01and that I came out guns blazing
15:04and showed up a fantastic collection
15:06that every single woman would want to wear.
15:09You've put on a show.
15:10Thank you, that's what I wanted.
15:12And you did.
15:28Five minutes?
15:30I feel a little bit of everything.
15:32There's stress, there's nerves, I'm anxious,
15:34but I love it, you know, I love to push myself,
15:36and this is what I meant to do, so I'm up for it.
15:45Thank you for coming.
15:46My name is Brandon Key.
15:47The collection's called Layers of Love,
15:48and I hope you enjoy.
16:11I feel like it shows variety.
16:14I got a wide range of ethnicity and girls and hairstyles,
16:17but I kept it natural and a bit minimum
16:20and let the clothes speak for themselves.
16:36It demonstrates so clearly
16:38that you can take a fairly limited range of materials
16:42and come up with something fresh in there
16:44with each and every look.
16:45Thank you, Tim.
16:52We'll see you next time.
16:53We'll see you next time.
16:56We'll see you next time.
16:58We'll see you next time.
17:01We'll see you next time.
17:02We'll see you next time.
17:03We'll see you next time.
17:04We'll see you next time.
17:04We'll see you next time.
17:05We'll see you next time.
17:06We'll see you next time.
17:08We'll see you next time.
17:09We'll see you next time.
17:20I really focused on the pieces individually each piece I wanted to be a standout piece but at the
17:25same time the juxtaposition of putting all those unique pieces in the same fabric to me there's
17:30something about that's beautiful I think I have the wedding collection
17:53I always have things to say hi everybody English not my first language so I get nervous because I'm
18:02not good at talking in front of people so they're kind of practice a little bit my special was just
18:16my name is Kentaro thank you for coming my collection was inspired by my Japanese culture
18:23and you're gonna see a lot of beautiful nature of Japan and also I composed and it played the
18:29music you will hear so I hope you will enjoy thank you so much
18:49music is very important because what I want to do most is conveying emotion throughout my show
18:58so if I make something emotional people is gonna be emotional
19:20this is the new piece oh you made that yesterday
19:48do
19:56do
20:01you
20:22I don't feel like this is competition at this point.
20:25No pressure, no winning, no losing.
20:28The most important thing for me is being able to show something beautiful.
20:33And I did my best, no regret.
21:02Do not stop when you enter.
21:04All right, so let's move up.
21:06Let's move up.
21:06Good luck.
21:07Make me proud.
21:08Just months ago, I was just wishing I could show at New York Fashion Week.
21:11I remember people sharing on social media, like, hey girl, one day, you know, that's
21:16going to be you.
21:17And like, today's that day.
21:22Hi, everybody.
21:24My collection is titled Evolution.
21:26It documents a personal journey of mine when I was at my lower point and just kind of pushing
21:33through and staying the course.
21:35And please enjoy.
21:56Oh my gosh.
22:02Watching the collection on screen with Tim, it just seems like it's not real.
22:06Like, this is not really happening.
22:10This is everything that I want in this moment.
22:24No, it's spectacular.
22:26It's not just really good.
22:36It's not really good.
22:44I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
22:45I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
22:46I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
22:47I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
22:48I'm sorry.
22:50I'm sorry.
22:57I'm so proud of everything I said I was going to do it and I did it and I'm just
23:03so happy
23:04that I was given this opportunity oh my god
23:22it is spectacular
23:42I thought it was extraordinary I mean not that I only love to see all the designers express
23:48themselves but for me the most heartwarming part was seeing women of all sizes
23:53I think one of my favorite moments was actually when the model took off her sarong and brought
24:00the bathing suit all the way up fabulous margaritas really took it away everything
24:04moved beautifully on body so vibrant so dynamic blew me away I'm gonna cry I loved Ayana so
24:13powerful and dynamic a really modern representation of women and Islam today
24:20I loved all the flamingo friends it was a lot but individually each piece I would 100% wear
24:27my parents that was a great show incredible all right let's bring out our designers
24:53how amazing was today it was awesome it was good I'm so happy I feel a little bit emotional
25:04all right let's say hello to our judges first we have creative director of Brooks Brothers women and
25:10fashion designer Zack Rosen hi designers you did such a spectacular job today I think each of you
25:16brought something really personable bravo creative director for Marie Claire magazine Nina Garcia
25:22congratulations team I feel very proud of each and every one of you and our guest judge for today
25:30actress and founder of the honest company Jessica Alba hi everyone your individuality really just shined and
25:40also being able to elevate it and celebrate women of all sizes it was it was really cool before we
25:47decide who will be the winner of Project Runway season 16 we have some questions for you Ayana let's bring
25:53out your models Wow Ayana tell us about your inspiration and your collection I wanted it to be a very
26:01very emotional kind of a moody type of show and so I mix with a lot of the ruffles that
26:07I like to do
26:08distressing of denim dyeing fabrics and also incorporate the modesty aspect of my designs what you have in front of
26:17us is
26:17absolutely stunning this gown really brought the drama today I mean it was stunning breathtaking you looked so
26:25beautiful in this dress you convinced me that there's a way to dress in forms of modesty in respect to
26:32one's religious background and still be hip and seductive and I think you're representing a whole
26:38community around the world beautifully and I'm beyond proud of you thank you I love your collection I wish I
26:45would have seen a little color but I am incredibly impressed you had the athletic wear then you had a
26:54kind
26:54of street wear and then this very precious finale so that is not an easy feat with just ten pieces
27:03the
27:03tailoring was beautiful you showed a little ankle a little wrist here and there it was very subtle but
27:09it was sensual it took my breath away it's gorgeous thank you Margarita tell us about your collection well
27:16my inspiration came from my culture and I thought what better way of making a collection to design my own
27:22print and kind of show the world who I am your collection had so much energy passion color it was
27:30really spectacular it was joyous I think this is clothing that could be bought it could even be its own
27:37little boutique in itself I'm very proud of you I thought you were very smart when you picked your model
27:43to have a moment on the runway we heard this incredible applause and people were so exhilarated
27:50and happy to see that I think it was a very important moment in fashion too right that just said
27:56it all yeah
27:57killed a girlfriend Kentaro tell us about your collection my whole collection was about story music
28:04sound feeling in Japanese culture kudos to you I knew you had it in you but I think you surprised
28:13us all the
28:15first look was incredibly dramatic and the line continued you went from that black and white into the nude and
28:25then all of a sudden surprised us with that shock of the color camellia what a red I totally agree
28:32with
28:32Nina I had one piece the second red dress to me it's like that strike of red could have been
28:39just one
28:39note of the music and then to the next I didn't mind it I loved it I loved it because
28:45there's so many
28:45different silhouettes that just came coming and you're like wow exciting I just had trouble with the two next to
28:52each other I was eating it up from the beginning to the end you blew my socks off today just
28:57the
28:57evolution of texture and color and experimentation really excellent excellent collection like nothing
29:06we've ever seen on the show thank you Brandon tell us about your collection I call this collection layers
29:12of love and it was inspired by my girlfriend Dina so I found this home furnishing fabric and it was
29:17like
29:17a Sun shade patio furniture that I was able to like die and then get like this ombre effect and
29:24I loved
29:25it your first look was one of my favorites for sure and then you had this long sleeve with all
29:31the ties I
29:32felt like was something that you know lots of girls who want to bring that likes cool streetwear but
29:38then also wanted that femininity you brought it to life it's flirty there's romanticism yeah it was romantic
29:44but it was like cool cool romantic cool girl for me it was a very strong collection I think you're
29:50incredibly talented but in terms of a presentation of a runway show it was a little bit more challenging
29:56just because I really was missing variation of fabrication and I started to not have the same
30:03kind of excitement about your experimentation with shape I do have to agree with Zach because I do love
30:09your collection but everything is in the same fabric either you need to give us like a solid or you
30:15have
30:15to flip-flop the fabric so that something else happens my favorite designers like when I see their 60
30:22look collections it's like 10 looks all the same fabrication and 10 more looks like it switches and
30:27that's just my kind of personal taste with 10 looks you have to present a show that is interesting and
30:33cohesive but yet different and that's very hard to do but the one thing I do have to say is
30:40that you have
30:41signature details that we know the clothes are yours the oversized loops the bands these proportions that's
30:50Brandon and I do think that is very important all in all I think you have been an incredibly gifted
30:59designer that have given all of your
31:02peers a run for their money and still are thank you lyrics how did you feel on the runway today
31:08as a plus model we don't get many opportunities to actually be at New York Fashion Week so I value
31:15every walk down that one way very much
31:18well I think things are all about to change you're leading the way you're representing okay it's really powerful thank
31:25you this is something that my community has wanted for a very long time
31:30this model diversity moment means so much and I thank you all for being the catalyst for change
31:37thank you Laris thanks thank you Brandon thank you models you can use the runway
31:47Ayana why should you be the winner of Project Runway my intention is to be an industry leader for the
31:53modest market and I really feel very ready to take that on and you know winning Project Runway would make
32:00all of that
32:00that a reality for me Margarita I believe I have a bit of an edge business wise so I believe
32:08I could give the greatest return on your investment and I believe I could really create a long-term career
32:15with this head start
32:17Kentaro I think winning Project Runway will give me more chances to talk about my stories and I want to
32:25share my stories with a lot of people
32:27and Brandon I kind of got an interesting perspective and point of view and I am very certain of the
32:33clothes I want to make
32:34and this obviously would be a huge help in launching my brand and I just feel it's time I feel
32:41I'm ready
32:42okay we've heard what you had to say we have a big decision to make and then we will determine
32:48who will be the winner of Project Runway
32:57the winner of Project Runway will receive the opportunity to collaborate with JCPenney on a limited edition capsule collection as
