00:00Of a lifetime.
00:09Hi.
00:10Hi.
00:11Congratulations for making it this far.
00:14For your next challenge, you'll be creating a collection of 12 looks for Fashion Week.
00:21We're going to give you a budget of $8,000 and the next five months to put it together.
00:28Christian, Jillian, you're guaranteed spots at Fashion Week.
00:33Rami, Chris, you will create collections.
00:38When you return to New York for Fashion Week, you must show me and the other judges your three strongest looks from your collections.
00:46We will judge them and determine which one of you will move on to Fashion Week.
00:53Okay.
00:54All of you have decided to keep your models from the last challenge.
00:59Now let's bring out a familiar face.
01:04Hi.
01:05Hi.
01:07It's so unusual for me to be on the runway.
01:10And you're looking good up here.
01:12So, designers, I'll be checking in with each of you in the coming months.
01:17But before I do, I want to remind you that you will be showing to the largest and most influential crowd in the industry.
01:23The world will be watching.
01:25To celebrate, let's have one final toast at the Gotham Apartments rooftop.
01:31Come on, let's go.
01:32Come, Tim.
01:33I see you there.
01:33So, we have some Moethe Chandon here for you for our toast.
01:41Designers, Heidi and I are exceptionally proud of you.
01:45So, here's to you and your collection.
01:47I can't wait to see what you guys come up with.
01:51So excited to one last challenge.
01:53I have a guarantee end to Fashion Week.
01:55How about that?
01:56Don't play games.
01:57And I'm 21 years old.
01:58That's fierce.
02:00Project Runway Season 4.
02:01Here they are.
02:02And both.
02:03And both.
02:05And back.
02:10I really worked my ass off.
02:12And I have my eye on the prize.
02:14All I can see is winning.
02:17That one's bigger than me.
02:19I know.
02:19You can take Christian home in your suitcase.
02:21You want to come to LA, you can just hop in.
02:23I'm so excited.
02:24Bye.
02:25I love you.
02:26Love your hair.
02:30Once we thought the roller coaster was over, there was still another loop.
02:34But I learned from the judges that they want more drama.
02:38And I'm very confident about what I'm capable of doing.
02:42Having to compete for the final spot at Fashion Week, I welcome the opportunity because I think
02:49I definitely deserve it.
02:50I guess I'm just going to try to do my best and see what happens.
03:02I'm traveling to check on the collections of our four finalists.
03:06First up, I'll visit Christian Siriano, who's working on his collection in New York City.
03:11I'm so excited for Tim to see my little place, and I hope he likes my stuff.
03:25But he will, because it's fabulous.
03:26This is my little room.
03:28It's like a little box, Tim.
03:29Wow.
03:31So this is your studio?
03:32This is where I sew everything on this table and cut everything.
03:36Talk about make it work.
03:37You really do have to make it work.
03:37No, I really make it work.
03:38And I sleep right here.
03:40You're kidding.
03:40No, look.
03:41This is my bed right here.
03:42And I just slip it out, and it fits right there perfectly.
03:46And I sleep there every night.
03:47And my bed buttons are in my closet.
03:48My bedroom basically was the closet, I think, originally.
03:52It's so small.
03:54Yes, it's very annoying to sew in such a small space.
03:57And you have to be really organized, or I would go crazy if I wasn't.
04:00So this is my sister and me.
04:02Is she younger or younger?
04:03She's actually older.
04:04She just looks very young and pretty like me.
04:07And that's my mother and my mom's boyfriend.
04:10I grew up in Annapolis, Maryland.
04:14It was kind of a small town, very preppy and naval academy.
04:18But I started working in a really trendy kind of hair salon when I was about 13.
04:23People didn't really judge as much in that industry.
04:25So I really like was looking for that.
04:28Felt like I fit in a little bit more there.
04:31And that kind of jump started my fashion career.
04:34So I went to design school in London for about three years.
04:37And it was the best decision of my life.
04:40Wow, you've done a lot.
04:42I have a lot, but I have so much to do.
04:45So the whole kind of theme is this romantic, gothic kind of look.
04:48So it's kind of dark.
04:50Every piece is basically a really strong look.
04:52That's like my thing.
04:54This was a jacket that I was telling you about.
04:56It's just very fitted in the waist, but it has still that kind of shape.
05:03What happens with all this volume under this very fitted jacket?
05:06It's really just a neck piece.
05:08And it's not a final decision yet.
05:10It's just a neck piece?
05:11Yeah, it basically sits like this and scrunches down.
05:14So it's like that.
05:15Oh, so it comes up to her nose?
05:16Right, it goes all across her face like this.
05:18I think you need to ask yourself, when do I not need something?
05:23Yeah.
05:24Is this piece hurt by not doing that?
05:26Mm-hmm.
05:27Yeah.
05:28What's this?
05:29And then this is the finale look.
05:30Now these here are, they still need work.
05:33And I'm going to be basically finishing and sewing.
05:36But they'll be her pants.
05:38Are these amazing?
05:43What's wrong with you?
05:45This looks costuming.
05:47It looks a little costuming.
05:49And I think they're fabulous.
05:50I would hate to have you even think about losing these.
05:52Okay.
05:53They just look a little costuming.
05:56It's just a lot of look.
05:57A lot of look.
05:58Think about it.
05:59Okay.
06:00I'm kind of just taking everything in that he said.
06:03And I'm going to think about it.
06:05But I don't know if I'm going to change too much.
06:08You just need, at this point, to bring an editing eye to everything that you're doing.
06:12Everything.
06:13Yeah.
06:13An editing eye.
06:14I want to win so bad.
06:16It's like something I've never wanted more in my entire life.
06:19I'll see you in fashion.
06:21Work hard.
06:22Think harder.
06:23I will.
06:24Good.
06:24Bye-bye.
06:25Bye, Tim.
06:26Take care.
06:32Next, I'll visit Jillian Lewis, who's also working on her collection in New York City.
06:38Jillian, how are you, sweetheart?
06:46I'm so thrilled to see you.
06:49Me, too.
06:50What a view.
06:51This is amazing.
06:53I know.
06:53I love it.
06:55Well, this is really compelling.
06:57When I first got back from the show, I did not go back to my job at Ralph Lauren.
07:03I never really had this kind of time to go around and find inspiration.
07:08This was the first piece that I designed when I came back.
07:12I love this detailing.
07:14Oh, my God.
07:15It took forever.
07:15I can tell.
07:16It must have.
07:17But now that it's done, it looks effortless.
07:19It's really working.
07:20It flows.
07:21The last challenge at the museum was so moving to me.
07:25So I decided to continue on in that direction.
07:29And I researched 15th century armor.
07:34There's femininity, yet there's strength.
07:36And I liked when Michael Kors said, you know, there is a strength to what you design, but
07:41I can tell that a woman designed it.
07:43Yeah.
07:44But I feel as though your palette, it's a cloudy day.
07:48For me, it's I'm not getting it.
07:50Yeah.
07:51Okay.
07:52Think about it.
07:53He really had a lot of wise things to say.
07:56Now I can take this collection to where it needs to be.
07:59I feel really confident.
08:01So do you want to meet my family?
08:02Oh, I'd love to.
08:03Yeah, they're so excited to meet you.
08:05They're in Long Island.
08:06Of course, all of the great American designers are from Long Island.
08:10All right.
08:11Michael Kors, Donna Karan, and Jillian Lewis.
08:16It's true.
08:24Hi.
08:25Hi.
08:26How are you?
08:28Hi.
08:28What an honor to meet you.
08:29Tim, it's Tim.
08:31I'm really excited to have Tim meet my family.
08:33Um, and to see the home that I was raised in.
08:36I would like you to meet Lua, who's my boyfriend.
08:38Hi, Lua.
08:39How are you?
08:39Nice meeting you, Tim.
08:40How are you?
08:40Nice meeting you, too.
08:41Congratulations.
08:43He's my best support.
08:44I can't believe you're in our home.
08:46Oh, I'm thrilled to be in your home.
08:47I can't believe it.
08:48So, everybody keeps saying about Santa Claus coming to town.
08:52I keep saying, forget about that.
08:54Tim Gunn's coming to town.
08:55Oh, thank you.
08:56I wish I were Santa Claus.
08:59Really?
08:59Did you have any apprehensions when Jillian said I want to be a fashion designer?
09:03Before I was ever married, I saw a Caribbean woman, and she sort of told me that I was
09:09going to have three children, and one was going to be famous.
09:13Well, she raised me with this idea, too, though.
09:16My mother, she really does expect me to be amazing in this life.
09:21When I was a child, growing up, I was chasing this something and trying to achieve something
09:26so much bigger than what I am, but I would not be here if she didn't push me from a very
09:32young age.
09:34Look how far she's gone.
09:36It's really true.
09:37It's amazing.
09:39I want the whole world to know who I am and to seek out the clothing that I design.
09:44I know that everybody thinks that they're going to be the next great thing, but I really,
09:48really will be.
09:50And I won't have it any other way.
09:54Why not?
09:57Coming up on Project Runway.
09:59Here's the most probably provocative thing that I have going on in my collection.
10:04My gag reflex is kicking in.
10:13Next up, Rami Kashu is working on his collection in Los Angeles.
10:20It's so good to see you.
10:31Great to see you, too.
10:32Tim coming to L.A. to visit me is very exciting.
10:36Meet my fabulous dude, my best friend.
10:38Hi, I'm Tim Gunn.
10:39It's a big gun, so.
10:40Hi, Jeff.
10:41How are you?
10:41Nice to meet you.
10:42And this is Jen.
10:43Hi, Jen.
10:43Nice to meet you, too.
10:45It was just weird, like, to see Tim Gunn in a completely different environment.
10:50So, Rami, your family's watching the show.
10:53Yes, they are.
10:54And how are they responding?
10:55My parents wanted me to do something like this, to take me to that sort of next level,
11:00to sort of break through.
11:01And they're very proud.
11:03And I'm very lucky to have them in my life.
11:05I was born in the city of Jerusalem.
11:07My mother was always known to be a lover for fashion.
11:10She was Miss Jordan in the 60s.
11:13She opened my eye to this sort of beautiful and colorful world of fashion.
11:19She passed away when I was five years old.
11:22It was very difficult for me to lose her at such an early age.
11:28But my father remarried when I was seven.
11:31And she is the most amazing stepmother anyone can have.
11:35But I don't call her stepmom.
11:37I call her mom.
11:38It's funny.
11:38Like, they've always known that this is what I wanted to do.
11:42And I kept it a secret for a long time from them.
11:44Because I always thought that, oh, I'm a guy.
11:47You know, it's an Arabic environment.
11:49This is something that's not very masculine, per se.
11:51So it was this, like, hidden secret.
11:53And then one time my brother walked in on me.
11:55And I've been sketching for years.
11:56I was probably like 12 or something.
11:58He grabbed the notebook from me.
12:00And he ran downstairs to my parents to show them.
12:02And I remember at that moment I was so scared.
12:04Thinking, oh, my God.
12:06What are they going to say?
12:07And they came back so amazed and so happy.
12:10And they realized that there's something here, you know.
12:13And they've been supportive ever since.
12:15It sort of started slowly throughout the years to become clear to me
12:19that this is what I'm going to do when I grow up.
12:21I want to be a designer.
12:24So, Rami, I can't wait to see your collection.
12:27I'm very excited.
12:28I'd love to show you.
12:29My studio is very close by in Silver Lake.
12:31So, um...
12:31Wonderful.
12:31I'll drive.
12:32Yeah, perfect.
12:33Let's go.
12:33Jeff, it's so lovely to see you.
12:35Thank you so much.
12:36Jen, wonderful to see you, too.
12:39So, ready?
12:46Welcome to my studio.
12:48Wow.
12:49Look at the space.
12:50I really do.
12:51This is phenomenal.
12:54And this is the collection.
12:56I will have to start by telling you a little bit about the inspiration.
12:59I want to hear all about the context.
13:01It's Joan of Arc.
13:02It's a combination of construction and details that I used that resemble the fighting gear that
13:08she wore at the time, yet in a much more modern sense.
13:11So, this is the first one, and it's a cape that's going to come off, and then you have
13:18this blouse.
13:20I'm really crazy about this look, and I'm speaking this way because I care enormously about you.
13:26No, of course.
13:26For me, these other pieces are looking so, in a way, kind of hammered and nailed.
13:33I don't feel the same softness.
13:35And then this weighs about as much as chainmail would.
13:40I mean, this is a heavy-duty, effing coat.
13:44Yes.
13:45You know?
13:46I want you to pull it back a bit.
13:49He made some points that I agree with, and some other ones I want to hold off on and just
13:54take a look at the collection and decide.
13:56But, in the end, I need to believe in what I'm doing.
14:01I have nothing but confidence in you.
14:03You know that.
14:03Thank you, Tim.
14:04I really, really appreciate it.
14:05All right.
14:05I am not thrilled about the whole Rami Cashew versus Chris March thing.
14:11It's just, I mean, we're probably both worrying about who's going to get the final spot.
14:14But whatever's meant to happen will happen.
14:18Bye-bye.
14:19Bye.
14:24Finally, I'll visit Chris March, who's also working on his collection in New York City.
14:28Chris, it's Tim Gunn.
14:29Hey, how are you?
14:33Come on in.
14:35Grilled.
14:35Good to see you.
14:36Good to see you.
14:37Come on in.
14:38It was great to see Tim after so long, because watching him on TV, it's like, oh, I miss Tim.
14:44Come on in.
14:44Wow.
14:45This is great space.
14:49I know.
14:49I got really lucky getting this space.
14:51I love it.
14:51This is great.
14:52I think my obstacle since coming on the show has been, how does a costume designer translate
14:59their expressiveness and creativity into the fashion world?
15:04I definitely don't want to march a costume parade down the runway, but I don't want it
15:09to end up being not me either.
15:12So, what's the overall inspiration?
15:16Beauty with a cork.
15:1995% fashion and 5% costume thrown in.
15:24All right.
15:25This is this crocheted hairpin lace.
15:30This is beautiful.
15:31It's a gorgeous color, too.
15:33Yeah.
15:34All right, so what's happening with this?
15:35Here's the most probably provocative thing that I have going on in my collection, which
15:40is the use of human hair as trim.
15:45I knew you'd have that face.
15:47My gag reflex is kicking in.
15:49You're using human hair?
15:50It's hair.
15:51I think he was a little bit disturbed by the fact that I used actual human hair to trim some
15:58of my garments.
16:00Oh, God.
16:01It's really bad in the back.
16:02In the back.
16:03This is just, it's not, see how much more believable this is?
16:08I can take it off really easy.
16:09It's so much more believable.
16:11I can't say that I'm shocked that Tim is a little disturbed by the hair, because I figured
16:17he probably would be.
16:19You want to look at this one?
16:20Yeah.
16:22Oh, Chris.
16:23I love the hair.
16:26I can take it off.
16:28Oh, boy.
16:29I have this refrain about the monkey house at the zoo.
16:33When you first enter into the monkey house at the zoo, you think, oh, my God, this place
16:38stinks.
16:40And after you're there for 20 minutes, you think, that's not so bad.
16:43And after you're there for an hour, it doesn't smell at all.
16:46But anybody else coming into the monkey house freshly thinks, oh, my God, this stinks.
16:53You've been living in the monkey house.
16:56All right, I get it.
16:57Tim gave me some ideas about editing and that perhaps maybe I've been living with these looks
17:03for too long.
17:04But there's definitely still going to be some hair.
17:07I think that what you should want is for the judges to look at this work and say, we really
17:13want to see more.
17:14Right.
17:14Have them begging.
17:16Okay.
17:17So I wanted to take you over to one of my friend's houses to meet some of my friends, kind of my
17:21New York family.
17:22Oh, I'd love to.
17:23Off we go.
17:24I'm going to bring Tim over to my friend Larry's house.
17:33He's, I think, lived inside that apartment for the last 30 years.
17:37And everything you'll see in there, he's built in there.
17:39It's a big, like, Baroque Rococo nightmare.
17:44I'm so glad to see you.
17:45I've heard so much about your place and I'll say why.
17:47You'll go see it.
17:48Fantastic.
17:49Great.
17:50Welcome.
17:51Oh, my God.
17:52It's Versailles.
17:54It's the Sistine Chapel.
17:55You have everything.
17:57This is staggering.
17:57I'm thrilled to be here.
17:58Thank you so much.
17:59Come in and meet my friend.
18:01My friend Nelson and my friends Ramona and Eric have basically become my New York family
18:08since I moved here.
18:10But I grew up mostly in the Bay Area and I have four older brothers.
18:16To them, being on Project Runway was just, like, another thing Chris is doing, you know.
18:23Yeah, he walks down the street in drag.
18:24Yeah, he's on TV.
18:26Yeah.
18:26We're used to it.
18:28The thing that got me really into costume was I went to a big costume contest in San Francisco
18:37and I won.
18:39And I went home and I thought, you know, I really want to do this for a living.
18:43I ended up with a very successful costume career in San Francisco, but I've always wanted
18:49to be in fashion.
18:51So I moved to New York.
18:52How do you feel about what you say of him on the show?
18:56Well, I'll be honest.
18:57I watched the show because of you and Heidi.
19:02We're crazy about him and he really does add a tremendous amount to that show.
19:05And I was...
19:06Oh, the other night, and this guy comes up to me and he's holding something in his hand
19:10and I thought he was going to ask me for directions.
19:12And he flips it open and it's a police badge.
19:15And he says, excuse me, sir, you're under arrest.
19:17What?
19:18And I was like, what?
19:18And he said, for being the best designer on Project Red.
19:23Having to show three pieces and us compete for the final spot at Fashion Week.
19:29I hope that they choose me because I would love to be showing my collection at Bryant Park.
19:37The reason that I got into doing what I do is to make people happy and to, you know,
19:42add some laughter and fun into the world.
19:44And I just, I love doing it and I love that it makes people happy.
19:48He's precious.
19:49He is.
19:50He is indeed.
19:50All right.
19:51Goodbye, Tim.
19:51Have a great holiday.
19:52Bye, Tim.
19:52Thank you so much.
19:53Bye-bye.
19:54Bye now.
19:55Well, that went pretty well.
19:59Coming up on Project Runway.
20:01Are you going to be nice to me?
20:04Are you going to be nice to me?
20:05Here's the day, and it's now.
20:07S***.
20:18I'm just left Los Angeles, and mixed emotions are going through me.
20:25I'm excited, but I'm nervous because I'm not sure if I'm going to actually show my collection.
20:33So it's a weird place to be.
20:35Having anticipated this three-piece, like, walk-off since the day we left, it has been quite a thing to go from being eliminated to being back on to being part of the final four.
21:00So, could I possibly win?
21:02We'll have to see what happens.
21:04Wow.
21:06This is as big as my first apartment.
21:10It's very nerve-wracking being back after months and months and months of work.
21:18I think my collection is really strong.
21:23I'm pretty confident with it.
21:24I mean, I love it because I'm so fierce.
21:26Tina.
21:32Duva.
21:34You brought a plant.
21:36Are you going to be nice to me?
21:38Are you going to be nice to me?
21:39Love you, man.
21:40Your hair looks good.
21:42I was like, oh, God.
21:44He's fun, but he's never really, like, a huge fan of mine.
21:48So, this could really turn out nasty.
21:52Who is it?
21:53Uh-oh.
21:54Hi.
21:57How are you?
21:59It's a good day.
22:00It's a bed here, and there's two beds in there.
22:03I put myself in there.
22:04So, you finished your collection, like, last month, right?
22:07Or the month before?
22:09No.
22:10I just can't wait to see what everybody did.
22:13Me too.
22:13I'm scared.
22:14I'm scared.
22:17Oh.
22:18Hi.
22:18Oh, my God.
22:21How are you?
22:22Oh, it's nice to see you guys.
22:24It was lots of fun to see everybody together.
22:29No matter what's happened, we all really like each other, and we all get along.
22:33So, it was kind of like a little family reunion.
22:36Cheers.
22:37Cheers.
22:37Oh.
22:40You know, people do not believe me when I say that I miss you.
22:45They're like, he's so annoying.
22:46I'm like, but he's not really.
22:48Don't worry.
22:49People say the same about you.
22:50Oh, no.
22:51How have you been?
22:53Stressed.
22:55Really?
22:55Like a nightmare witch.
22:57I understand.
22:59And you, too?
22:59We're sitting there, and we're hanging out with them, kicking back, catching up, and I'm
23:04thinking, hmm, I just wonder who's going to end up on that third bed upstairs with Jillian
23:09and Christian.
23:11Are you guys excited?
23:12No, excited, more like, oh.
23:15We'll have to wait and see.
23:18We wake up in the morning, and it's weird.
23:32We're just sort of, like, waiting to see what's going to happen.
23:36We don't know when the judges are going to want to see our three strongest looks.
23:40This is yours, right?
23:41Yeah, that's one of them.
23:42You know, it's like, all of a sudden, it all became very real.
23:46Oh, here's the day, and it's now.
23:53Ooh.
23:54Oh, isn't this pretty?
23:56Oh, look at this.
23:58There's only three tables.
24:00We'll share.
24:01Yeah, we'll share.
24:02I won't.
24:03Seeing that there were only three tables was a little bit chilling.
24:08That's bringing home the point that one of us won't be there.
24:12And, like, this is really going to happen.
24:14I can't wait to see everyone's stuff.
24:19Oh, my dear Lord.
24:21I wish all of these shoes were for me.
24:26Hi, everybody.
24:27Hey.
24:27How are you?
24:29How are you?
24:30I've missed you.
24:30Tim's here.
24:31We missed you.
24:32So, can I ask you to gather around, please?
24:35First, I want to congratulate all of you for making it this far.
24:38It's fantastic.
24:40And I just want to remind you of what an incredible and singular experience it is to be presenting
24:46your work on the largest stage in the fashion industry.
24:50Talk about a wow moment.
24:52Rami and Chris, as you know, only one of you will make it there.
24:56As Heidi said when we last parted, you must choose the three strongest looks from your collection
25:01and present them to the judges who in turn will decide which one of you will be moving forward.
25:06And you will be doing that today.
25:13We've assigned you models.
25:15You will have three hours to fit them, bring them through hair and makeup.
25:19Shoes have been generously provided by bluefly.com.
25:23And if you have any last-minute alterations, we have Brother Sewing Stations set up for you to use.
25:29Owing to the fact that you have so much work to do in such a short period of time, I want each of you to choose a partner.
25:35One of us?
25:37Jillian.
25:37Yes!
25:38Who else could it be?
25:39Oh!
25:40Oh, yeah!
25:44Rami and Chris, I just want you to know, regardless of the outcome of today, I am so extraordinarily proud of each of you.
25:52And I just want you to go out there and knock those judges' socks off.
25:58But just have an incredible showing, okay?
26:01All right.
26:02Ladies, hi.
26:03Come in.
26:05Hi.
26:06Welcome back.
26:07You don't like it.
26:08Do you want to fit them, Jillian?
26:10Sure.
26:10And I guess one of you could try this.
26:12I love this color.
26:13See, there should be one pair of, like, size 10 shoes.
26:16It was difficult to select just three pieces, but I kind of came to the conclusion I would choose from one color category.
26:24The black, because I think it was the strongest.
26:26You picked your three looks, right?
26:28Yeah.
26:29Let's do a heel, and let me just see a walk in this.
26:32Back in Los Angeles, I decided that I would show three different elements.
26:38Construction, ethereal, and sort of dramatic.
26:41And then the draping.
26:42God, where's the...
26:44Sorry, I just feel like I'm all over the place.
26:46It's okay.
26:47Give me as much to do as you can.
26:49I'm, like, feeling so...
26:50It's hot.
26:51We have such a short period of time for hair and makeup to fit our models, do alterations.
26:56Jewelry.
26:58It's a lot of pressure, I think, because it's just the anticipation of that moment, that big moment that we both waited for.
27:05How's it going, Christian?
27:06It's going good, Jillian.
27:09I miss you.
27:10Don't talk to her.
27:12I can't talk to the competition.
27:13Did you have a hand?
27:15Girl.
27:16How's the hair?
27:18So funny.
27:21Chris's work was very interesting when I first saw it.
27:24I had brought my brush.
27:27Did you?
27:28Yeah.
27:28It looked very innovative, and there was hair on it.
27:32He was like, do you want to brush the dress?
27:34And I'm like, okay.
27:35Are you joking right now?
27:39Don't get it on the floor.
27:42I picked it up.
27:44So very clean, very tight ponytail, very slick back.
27:48Wavy and messy.
27:52Thank you so much.
27:55I would like emphasis on just the eye.
27:59Very dark and strange, like dark lips.
28:03Thank you very much.
28:04Have a good day.
28:09I think that my three looks came together really well.
28:12So the whole idea of actually making it to Bryant Park is like, could this really happen?
28:19It's like, wow.
28:20I think it actually could.
28:22I have to adjust all this.
28:25We both have no idea what's going to happen.
28:27I have butterflies in my stomach, and I hope that I get to show in Fashion Week.
28:31But I really don't know.
28:32When you pose, then you can do this.
28:37Chris.
28:39Rami.
28:41Time's up.
28:42Okay.
28:42Yes.
28:44Off to Parsons.
28:45Coming up on Project Runway.
28:51It is human hair.
28:52Yes.
28:53It's just really unflattering.
28:56Hello.
29:06Hi.
29:08Rami.
29:09Chris.
29:10Welcome back to the runway.
29:11As you know, the two of you are here to compete for the final spot at New York Fashion Week.
29:16We ask you to choose the three strongest looks from your collections for us to judge.
29:21These looks will determine which one of you will move on and which one of you will be out.
29:27Okay.
29:28Let's meet the judges.
29:29First, we have top American designer, Michael Kors.
29:34Hi, everyone.
29:35And the lovely Nina Garcia, fashion director of Elle magazine.
29:39Good luck.
29:43We believe in both of you, and this is why we gave you this opportunity.
29:46So we hope that you blow us away with your work.
29:51Good luck, and let's start the show.
29:59I've experimented with new techniques that I have not done before.
30:05I've made a point that I can do more than just straight.
30:12I'm proud of the collection.
30:14It's feminine.
30:15It's strong.
30:16It celebrates a woman's body.
30:23I'm excited, but I'm nervous because I want to show my collection.
30:28I'm going to play a part.
30:39I think my collection expresses who I am as a fashion designer.
30:45It's actually very sophisticated and sleek and daring and dark.
30:51It's what I think of as being beautiful, that whole kind of, like, the dark side of beauty.
30:58And so I'm really happy with what I came up with.
31:01It was pretty exciting to finally see something come down that runway that I had had some time to make.
31:16And that, I think, was a real reflection of the way that I work and my creativity.
31:22We've scored your designs.
31:30One of you will be going to Fashion Week, and one of you will be out.
31:35Let's bring out your models.
31:36Chris, tell us a little bit about your inspiration.
31:51My inspiration was kind of a dark, glamour goth.
31:56And I tried to incorporate some unexpected materials.
32:00Is that the fake fur?
32:03Is it goat?
32:04No, it's human hair.
32:06It is human hair?
32:07Yes.
32:09I liked it because it's a little dark, a little creepy, a little goth.
32:14I liked it.
32:14Well, I have to say, you know, I don't know.
32:16It's a little creepy, as you said before, to wear human hair.
32:20I know.
32:20But you thought outside of the box.
32:23And then what is the skirt on the first suit made?
32:25And that's another thing.
32:26This skirt is made out of black chrome safety pins.
32:30Safety pins.
32:30I can just tell you.
32:31Each row took about eight hours.
32:34Yeah.
32:34Wow.
32:35I think that that's beautifully crafted.
32:38On the other side of the coin, I think that the girls look overly designed and dark.
32:43Particularly when I got to this gown, you can't move in it, which is a problem.
32:48Yeah.
32:48I mean, you're in a velvet condom.
32:51I mean, you know, so that really bothered me.
32:54But the work that went into it's pretty remarkable.
32:59I think the clothes look terrific.
33:01I love the safety pins.
33:03Even the human hair, although I'm not so sure if I could, I would wear it.
33:07But it can go overboard.
33:10I want to know, why did you pick these three outfits from 12?
33:14I thought it would probably be the best idea to choose three things from one of the color sections.
33:21And I thought the black ones were the most dramatic.
33:24Everything is like a special, unique piece that I haven't seen before.
33:28It definitely is very creative.
33:32Why do you deserve Dakota Fashion Week?
33:34I think that it might be interesting to have a point of view from outside the fashion world.
33:39Personally, I think my head would just blow off.
33:43I don't know.
33:44Okay, Rami, what was your inspiration?
33:50I wanted to show that I'm able to construct.
33:54And I needed to find that balance between what I've created on the show and the last things that you guys have said.
34:00And I've taken all of these things into consideration, including Tim's visit.
34:03And I hope that that came through.
34:05I appreciate the fact that you listened and that you incorporated some things that were more tailored.
34:12I particularly liked your second look.
34:14Oh, thank you.
34:15Can I see the dress by itself?
34:17Yeah, of course.
34:20I mean, it's really beautifully done with the placement and the effect is fantastic.
34:26It looks effortless and I have a feeling it is worked.
34:29That didn't like just whoosh onto the, you know, dress form like that.
34:32You're sitting there and draping that beautifully.
34:34I worry about the proportion a little bit of your coat.
34:37I think with the collar, the little capelet sleeve, then the pleating, that's a lot of volume in one coat.
34:45Yeah.
34:46In terms of being a customer, I would wear like the evening dress.
34:49It's gorgeously made, but then those round things on her hips are just really unflattering.
34:57I didn't have a problem with that.
34:58It is a fantasy dress.
35:00It is a fantasy.
35:01It is a fantasy, but both of you have a very dark inspiration.
35:08I don't know why.
35:09Why do you deserve to go to Fashion Week?
35:11I mean, this is who I am.
35:14This has been my calling since I was six years old.
35:16So I think that going to Fashion Week for me could be a wonderful opportunity that can showcase my work to a large audience so that new doors could open afterwards.
35:25Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
35:30We're going to have a little chat.
35:32And then I'm going to call you back.
35:34You can leave the runway.
35:35So what did you guys think about the show?
35:49Both of them were so dark.
35:52Obviously, they wanted to show something very dramatic.
35:54And I think things got overly designed, overly complicated.
35:59But I think that there was a lot of ingenuity and a lot of craft that went into these clothes we saw.
36:04So what do we think about Rami?
36:06With Rami, there's a substance there.
36:08It's organic.
36:08Yes.
36:09There is a skill.
36:10I thought that middle dress was beautiful.
36:13Me too.
36:13I mean, I could name 25 women who would want to own that dress.
36:17That means that there's some commercial viability to what he's doing.
36:21The evening dress, I like too.
36:23But the side bits?
36:24No.
36:25I liked it.
36:26I had more of a problem with the coat because it looked overdone.
36:31He's trying to incorporate it to something tailored.
36:34Right.
36:34So my hat's off that he tried it.
36:36You know what?
36:36And I appreciate that he listened.
36:38We were very concerned that he was going to have one Grecian goddess after the other.
36:42And he didn't.
36:47And what do we think about Chris?
36:49When you think about that he took human hair, safety pins, panty velvet made it look like fur, reworked the whole thing and tailored it beautifully.
36:59And when it first came out, I wasn't really sure what any of it was.
37:02And that's kind of intriguing.
37:04Yeah.
37:04He was very proud to say that it was hair extensions.
37:07Yes, human hair.
37:07It's human hair and it's maybe a little dark and a little cold.
37:10But I think that Chris is still giving us costumes.
37:14But you know what?
37:15There have been many fantastic designers that have started off as costume designers and have built a business on this.
37:22We know what we want to do.
37:28Okay.
37:29Let's bring them back out.
37:30Chris, Rami, one of you will be out.
37:48Chris, Rami, one of you will be going to Fashion Week and one of you will be out.
38:03You made this a very difficult decision.
38:05Our criticism of both of your three looks is that they felt dark and overworked.
38:12But here's the good news.
38:14Chris, you showed us how incredibly creative you are.
38:20Rami, you showed us something different and a refined point of view.
38:25Rami, congratulations, you're going to New York Fashion Week.
38:38Thank you so much.
38:40I really appreciate it and I'm very excited to show.
38:45I'm sorry, Chris.
39:01That means you're out.
39:03You're an incredible designer and we loved having you here.
39:06Thank you so much.
39:09Auf Wiedersehen.
39:10I'm so thrilled to have made it this far and this has been such an incredible experience.
39:18Thank you so much.
39:26So what's up, Tranny?
39:29I'm in.
39:30You are?
39:31Yeah.
39:32And you?
39:33Oh.
39:34What's up?
39:36Are you okay?
39:36I'm so happy for Rami because, you know, it's his whole life.
39:44I wish we both could go to Fashion Week, but I'm very proud and I'm very happy and it's
39:49nice to now know that I will be showing my collection at Fashion Week.
39:55You two better watch out for that.
39:58That's what I am.
39:59Actually.
39:59So, Chris, as Heidi said, you are an incredible designer.
40:08Oh.
40:09You know what, Tim?
40:11This has happened before.
40:14I had no idea what would happen the day I set foot in the door at Project Runway.
40:21Bye, Chris.
40:22Bye.
40:22Bye.
40:22See you later.
40:23Bye.
40:23But what I really didn't expect was the amount of love that the universe sent my way.
40:32Would I do it again?
40:36No.
40:37Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
