00:03I told you I was going to win.
00:05Yeah, you did, but I didn't believe you.
00:07I'm proud of you.
00:08I mean, that's what's up.
00:09I'm glad that you won.
00:10This is an opportunity of a lifetime to be here.
00:13It's like, wow, like top six out of 16 contestants.
00:17Top six!
00:19I have outlasted 10 contestants.
00:22Like, I almost couldn't lay hands on Fashion Week.
00:26How do you feel about Natalia being gone?
00:27We did go through the auditions together,
00:30and we made it on the show together.
00:31She got to show the designer that she is.
00:33In that sense, it was a blessing, but she's a strong girl.
00:36All right, let's do this.
00:45Hello, designers.
00:46Hello.
00:48You're all one step closer to making it to the big finale.
00:52Yay!
00:53Do you guys know that there are only two challenges left?
00:56What?
00:57There are six of us, so is four going to Fashion Week?
01:00We thought there were three.
01:02Two, so go deep.
01:04Is it going to be another double elimination?
01:07I can tell you that you better be bold and make sure that your designs really stand out.
01:14Go big, or you'll be going home.
01:17Go meet Tim and a special guest, and they will tell you all about the details of your next challenge.
01:22Good luck, and I'll see you right back here on the runway.
01:26All right.
01:26Bye, everybody.
01:27Bye.
01:29I immediately started thinking, hey, you know, we're going to buckle up.
01:32We're going to travel again.
01:33I'm thinking I'm going to go to Rome.
01:36Maybe Italy.
01:38I'm hoping for Paris.
01:43There's like a guard dog.
01:44We don't even know where we're at.
01:47It almost looks like a movie set.
01:51Designers, welcome to your next challenge where the sparks are quite literally flying.
01:56Please join me in welcoming our very special guest from Lexus, Brian Bolane.
02:02Thanks, Tim.
02:03Yay!
02:04You know, at Lexus, we are passionate about visionary design, about the innovation that goes into our product.
02:10We want to be bold.
02:11And for today's challenge, you will all be going bold because this is an avant-garde challenge.
02:19I knew it!
02:20Yes!
02:20They're pushing me out of my comfort zone, dude.
02:23You definitely don't walk into a warehouse and make something normal.
02:26Avant-garde is one-of-a-kind, wearable art.
02:28I love avant-garde.
02:29It's freedom of fashion, so we can do whatever we want.
02:32We are going to be pushing your innovative abilities even further.
02:38Because it's not just avant-garde, it's also an unconventional materials challenge.
02:46These pieces of metal and machinery will inspire your avant-garde look.
02:50The idea of connecting unconventional and avant-garde is so tricky.
02:56You'll have five minutes to gather up metal materials.
02:59Then we're going to Mood, where you'll have a budget of $150 to purchase textiles and notions, alright?
03:05You're merging unconventional and conventional for an avant-garde look.
03:11Your mood trip is going to be particularly exciting because...
03:15We're going to make sure you get to Mood in style today.
03:20We're going to let you use two brand new 2017 Lexus IS F-Sports.
03:24The address is already pre-programmed into the navigation.
03:27You just have to get in and drive.
03:29So with that, I want to wish you all the best of luck.
03:31I can't wait to see where you go with this challenge.
03:33You will have two days to create your look.
03:35We are expecting something spectacular and show-stopping.
03:39Alright, your time starts now.
03:41And they're off.
03:44I'm totally not an industrial guy, so I'm a little bit nervous about this one.
03:52In five minutes, there's no way you can be like,
03:54okay, I'm going to get this and I'm going to make this out of this.
03:56There's no way.
03:58Just get some .
04:01Woo!
04:02Oh my God.
04:03Everyone else's buckets are piled high.
04:06Did I grab enough?
04:07Do I have enough to work with?
04:08I'm hoping that I can make it work.
04:11Head off to Mood.
04:12I'll meet you there.
04:13And your materials will be waiting for you in the workroom.
04:15Let's go.
04:16Alright, everyone.
04:17Head off.
04:18Top-down chrome spinning.
04:20Woo!
04:21Bye, Tim!
04:23It's going to be interesting driving this in New York.
04:25Yeah.
04:25I'm so scared.
04:37Okay.
04:37Yeah, I've got this one.
04:38I know I want to get leather.
04:39I wanted it to go from like really heavy, like on the top, to like really lightweight.
04:44On the bottom.
04:44Just one skin of leather and it's in the opening.
04:47And that's it.
04:51He's so mad right now.
04:53You have 15 minutes remaining.
04:5515 minutes, everyone.
04:59Designer's time is up.
05:01You want a small bucket of that?
05:03Thank you, Aaron.
05:05Danke, Mood.
05:06Bye, Swatch.
05:16Back at it again.
05:26Woo!
05:27Woo!
05:28Careful.
05:29This is a wild challenge.
05:31Junkyard Couture.
05:37These are kind of heavy.
05:39I'm playing around with the tubes and then it clicks in my head.
05:43A butterfly.
05:44What inspired me was how a butterfly warns off predators.
05:48It's beautiful from far away, but if you get up really close, it's not too cute.
05:52And it's going to be like tubular in the back.
05:54Some funky things coming off of it.
05:56This is on my guard.
05:57You want to stand out in front of everyone.
06:06I was just shaping and molding it at first.
06:09Oh, that looks dope.
06:11I want to take the metal and create almost like she shell coral shapes on the bust area
06:16and a piece that would drape around her waist to the back.
06:21Jingen, you're working them.
06:22Yeah, I have to sew together.
06:24You're already sewing.
06:25Well, I have to sew together my under.
06:27It's going to be denim, but protruding out are these like hips.
06:31I want to incorporate all the materials, but I want this look to be unified.
06:37I don't want to do a dress with a bunch of metal stuff gloop on top of it.
06:42Ro Berry has some tricks up his sleeve, so I'm just really interested to see what he's creating.
06:48Space goddess.
06:49Galaxy bitch.
06:50As I'm thinking like soft and hard, like flowy and like structured, it kind of hits me.
06:56I should do like a paper doll dress, like just like this flat thing that just goes
07:01and like attaches to the body like that.
07:03I've never seen a paper doll dress before, so it's definitely going to be different.
07:14I don't even know, I might sew it, but I think I might just glue it.
07:16Just add some more texture.
07:19Should I use more unconventional fabrics?
07:21Should I use more conventional fabrics?
07:23Is it avant-garde enough?
07:25Hopefully it holds.
07:26I think that Rick is an exceptional designer, but if you're not willing to try to push yourselves
07:32out of your boundaries, it's kind of like, come on, dude.
07:37So literally one hem, one mistake can send you home.
07:56What happened?
07:57What happened?
07:59It bubbled up, didn't it?
08:01Oh my god.
08:01I told you it was going to do that.
08:03But didn't I tell you it was going to bubble up when it dry?
08:05Yeah, but like that, the glue reacts like insulation foam.
08:09It becomes this giant bubbly mess.
08:12Morning.
08:14How is everyone?
08:15Good.
08:16I'm eager to see what you're doing, okay?
08:19Okay.
08:20Rick.
08:21Hi, Tim.
08:22Talk to me.
08:23So I knew that I wanted to work with this glass and metal tiling, and then these were
08:28the little rollers from curtains that I just cut up.
08:31What's with the safety pins?
08:33I was just going to do like a little motif of them kind of coming out this way, almost
08:37like a sunburst.
08:38I feel like it's such a cheap shot.
08:40It takes me back to my students and the safety pin dress, and it just cheapens the impact
08:47of everything else.
08:48What happens in the back?
08:49In the back, there is this.
08:52I'm still kind of playing with this one.
08:54And it doesn't have nearly the refinement that you have in the front.
08:57Okay.
08:58Thank you, Tim.
09:00My pleasure.
09:01Okay.
09:02Reveri.
09:02Hello, Tim.
09:03Welcome.
09:03Tell me what you're doing.
09:04I'm using these metal sheets to create these aerodynamic shapes.
09:11I'm trying to disrupt the body.
09:14You're filling this in?
09:15Yeah.
09:16I'm using the basic dress to hold the shapes, but I want the shape to be most of the unconventional
09:23material.
09:25It's edgy.
09:27It's very edgy.
09:28I want her to have a...
09:30Uh-oh.
09:30What are you doing?
09:31Talk to me about this.
09:33I wanted to have something she can take from his face, like something covering his face.
09:39All right.
09:39So something removable.
09:40It's not makeup.
09:41And she's going to have a beautiful makeup.
09:43I'm very intrigued.
09:45And I can't wait to see it all come together.
09:48Glue away.
09:49Okay.
09:50Thank you, Reveri.
09:50Thank you, Tim.
09:51So, Majin, what are you up to?
09:53Of course, I love denim.
09:55And I want it to...
09:57Okay.
09:57There was this wire mesh.
09:59I can twist it and create shape.
10:02Yeah.
10:02I like coral reefs a lot and how it just organically shapes and forms itself.
10:08Yeah.
10:08So I wanted to try and create that feel.
10:11Almost be just like a sculptured work of art.
10:14And I want to have, like, these to come to attach.
10:20Have like this...
10:21A big panier.
10:22Yeah.
10:22Can I just see how much this weighs?
10:24Yes.
10:24It's not that heavy.
10:25Oh, my God.
10:26It's heavy?
10:27I think it's heavy.
10:28It is?
10:28Yeah.
10:29Yeah.
10:29Now I'm worried.
10:30It's a strapless dress.
10:31So if it's too heavy, it's gonna be hard for her to keep it up.
10:34You're sewing it on?
10:35Yes.
10:35I'm sewing it on.
10:36I don't want you to make it too costumey.
10:39Costumey?
10:40Isn't that the point when it's avant-garde?
10:42I thought avant-garde was supposed to be pushing the limits.
10:45How are you feeling about this?
10:46I love it.
10:47Carry on.
10:48All right.
10:48Thanks, Tim.
10:50Erin.
10:50Hello.
10:51Talk to me.
10:52I'm going with the yellow.
10:53I also was like really wanting something that had like a see-through element to it.
10:57So I was thinking paper doll dress.
10:59Okay.
10:59Over top of pants.
11:01I want to try to make it work where it sticks to the top of her body by almost looking
11:05like
11:05it's just like...
11:07Okay.
11:07Like a tab.
11:08So I'm going to put these on there.
11:11On the mesh?
11:12On the mesh.
11:13Who's your model?
11:14Cheers up.
11:15What's this going to feel like on her?
11:18I don't want you to be written up for model abuse.
11:21I mean, obviously, I don't want her to hurt herself.
11:22And I do want to try to make it as wearable as possible.
11:26I think it's definitely a risk, but I'd rather take a risk because playing it safe with avant-garde
11:31is like the worst place to go.
11:34Hi, Tim.
11:35Hi, Laurence.
11:36So I am attempting to make a stairway dress.
11:40A stairway dress?
11:41Yeah.
11:43This has you written all over it.
11:44I know it's you.
11:46Laurence needs to step it up only because it is the same sleeve that we've seen before.
11:51It's her signature.
11:53Nothing new at this point in time.
11:56I like very much the counterpoint between how graphic this is at the shoulders and how
12:02organic all this is.
12:04Are you pushing it far enough?
12:07I think Laurence is keeping it very, very safe.
12:09And I think the judges want to see and appreciate something different and unique.
12:13Wrap it all up.
12:14Yeah.
12:15Okay.
12:16Yeah.
12:17Laurence, do it.
12:18All right, thank you.
12:19Okay, thank you.
12:20I always take into consideration what Tim says to me.
12:24But I try to push myself without stepping out of my aesthetic.
12:30And hopefully I make a good impression on the judges.
12:33Tell me what you're doing.
12:34I got inspiration from a butterfly.
12:36And when it opens up its wings, it has like these scary faces.
12:40So that's what I wanted to show around here.
12:43What I wanted to do with these things was to add it to the back.
12:48So it's like simplistic in the front and like really crazy in the back.
12:56Let me know what you're thinking.
12:58This on its own.
13:00Mm-hmm.
13:00I feel as though there should be a sign saying, put baby bump here.
13:04It's going to be schizophrenic.
13:06I feel that Cornelius has come a long way in this competition.
13:09But being saved by Tim Gunn, you're kind of expected to step it up and prove what you have.
13:14I feel as though you have two completely different stories happening.
13:17Any mistake can send you home.
13:31After this freaking horrible critique, I have to figure out something else to do.
13:36And it clicks in my head.
13:39This is a host being consumed by a parasite.
13:45Can fit five models in one pan.
13:50She said go big or go home, right?
13:54Oh, hey.
13:55I got your dress on, girl.
13:56Can you do the walk?
13:57Okay, hold on.
13:59Yeah.
14:03I have more respect for you now.
14:06I'm going to the war.
14:07Yeah.
14:08Just look around like that.
14:09Yeah.
14:10Oh, my God.
14:12Yes.
14:13That's beautiful.
14:14Erin's doing a bright chicken yellow.
14:17So it's definitely could be a little chickeny clucking down the roadway.
14:20Yeah.
14:20I'm trying to think, should I like dip it lower like right here on your ass?
14:24I'm having a little bit of trouble figuring out how I'm going to take my hip sculpture and add it
14:30to the dress.
14:31Is that hurting?
14:32I mean, overall, the dress looks gorgeous on her.
14:35Just is heavy.
14:37I'm just trying to figure out what I'm going to do.
14:39Go all the way back and then come back to me and I just want to see how it stays
14:42up.
14:43I'm feeling a lot better after Paula tries on my look.
14:46Turn.
14:47Boom.
14:48I just have to start gluing on the two things and make something weird.
14:55I'm happy with the fitting, but the judges might think it's a bit short.
14:59I have everything done.
15:01See you tomorrow, guys.
15:03See you later.
15:13Yes.
15:22Nick, this is so you.
15:25This point in the game, I need to bring it, like dig inside of me and bring more out of
15:31me because I've got to show them the reason why to continue on.
15:34Fashion Week.
15:51Good morning, designers.
15:53How is everyone?
15:54Good morning.
15:54How are you all feeling about time?
15:57Hell yeah.
15:58Okay?
15:59Great.
15:59You will have an hour to send your models to the Mary Kay Color and Design Studio and the Sally
16:06Beauty Studio.
16:07All right?
16:07It's an unconventional avant-garde challenge.
16:11So use the Just Fab accessories wall very carefully.
16:16And please take advantage of the Brother sewing room.
16:18Yes.
16:19All right.
16:20Thank you, everyone.
16:21I'll be back.
16:23I want like a strong cat eye.
16:25We can start it down here and then literally draw it out just like a beautiful shape without it being
16:31too much.
16:32Perfect.
16:33Maybe if we did like a little shimmer like a gunmetal.
16:36Okay.
16:36This is sterling and then I add a little black to it and we get that metallic tone.
16:41I would love that.
16:42That looks really good.
16:43I wanted her to look very bronzy, very shimmery.
16:46I would love to dust the whole lid on that copper.
16:50I just love copper on her skin tone.
16:53It's dope.
16:53Yeah.
16:54We're Sally Beauty.
16:54We'll always make it beautiful.
16:56I want a mohawk.
16:57Cool, edgy, hardcore fashion.
17:00We'll just roll it in to keep it really tight.
17:02Yeah.
17:03I got you.
17:04Thank you so much.
17:05Let's add some hair.
17:06How high do you think I should go?
17:07A woman's face always looks best when you go.
17:11Cheek bone.
17:12Boom right there and then just have it come off.
17:14Yay.
17:15I was like thinking like some sort of like barrette action going back.
17:18What if we use some of like our little metallic pieces.
17:22Yeah.
17:23And create a barrette effect.
17:25Yes.
17:27We need hot glue goods on standby.
17:34Oh my God for you.
17:37Jesus.
17:38Be with me.
17:39Majin's model boobs are about to like fall out because it's so heavy.
17:43He should have just added a strap.
17:44It would have been an easy fix.
17:46Oh.
17:47Yes.
17:49Oh.
17:49Did it burn you?
17:51Yeah.
17:52Judges are going to kill me for this one.
17:54Good luck everybody.
17:55I know I got my fists up.
17:58It might be a tiny bit short.
18:00I just pray that her Pum Pum will be safe for the runway.
18:06All right designers and models we're going down to the runway.
18:09Follow me everyone.
18:11It's not going to be a boring runway.
18:13That's for sure.
18:13That's for sure.
18:17Okay.
18:17Majin.
18:18Here we go.
18:28Hello everybody and welcome to the runway.
18:30Anyway, as you know in fashion one day you're in and the next day you're out.
18:34There's six of you here and after tonight there will be five.
18:38This was the Lexus challenge and you were to create avant garde looks out of both unconventional
18:43materials and conventional fabrics.
18:45You were instructed to be bold and innovative.
18:49Now were you?
18:50Yes.
18:51Who has the best one?
18:54So tell me about yours.
18:56I love it.
18:57I'm happy with what I did.
18:58Yeah?
18:58So we'll see if you guys enjoy it.
18:59Can't wait to see it.
19:01All right.
19:01Let's say hello to our judges.
19:05First we have creative director of Brooks Brothers Women and fashion designer Zach Posen.
19:10Hi designers.
19:11Hi Zach.
19:11Creative director for Marie Claire Magazine Nina Garcia.
19:14Hey everyone.
19:16And actress and director Sherry Appleby, star of Lifetime's hit series Unreal.
19:21Hi designers.
19:22Hi.
19:23Welcome.
19:25Also we have Tim Gunn here for the runway show.
19:27And as you know he is your mentor and will not be judging your looks.
19:30We have an anonymous runway show so we the judges will not know who made which look.
19:35All right.
19:35Let's start the show.
19:40I really love my look.
19:42I think that is really avant-garde.
19:49It is absolutely amazing how I incorporated the tubes into the dress.
19:55I'm obsessed with it.
20:06I love the silhouette.
20:08I love how she's walking in it.
20:11I wish I would have added straps just to be able to balance the heaviness of the overall
20:16garment.
20:18But my look is gorgeous and is beautiful.
20:33I think she looks strong, powerful and she looks amazing.
20:39My look stands out a lot more.
20:41It's definitely very wearable which is something I was going for.
20:48I'm loving my look.
20:57I'm really happy with how my look came out.
21:01I think that it is really different and I think it is unique and I think it does stand
21:05out on the runway which could work for me or work really against me but I'm feeling really
21:10positive about it.
21:23I was able to create something that I'm actually proud of.
21:33I'm loving it except for the length of my dress.
21:36I'm worried that it might be a little bit short.
21:48It looks amazing.
21:50I'm really proud of what I accomplished with this look.
21:55The shapes are beautiful, the colors are beautiful, so I'm very happy.
22:11Designers, I have to say that we were really impressed by the show today.
22:14Good job.
22:15One of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out.
22:27Robbery, tell us about your look.
22:28For my concept I immediately wanted to create a very aerodynamic shape using brush aluminum
22:36and with the draping technique.
22:39Then when we went to Moots I found this textile and it reminds me of the stitches the tailors
22:47made.
22:48So the tailoring became the inside outside to incorporate to my aerodynamics.
22:55I really love this look.
22:56I love that you used a lot of the unconventional materials as well as the conventional materials.
23:01I really see how you morphed the two together really nicely.
23:05I was really impressed with how you were able to mold these unconventional parts.
23:10I would have loved for it to have a little bit more of a surprising form since it is the
23:16avant-garde challenge.
23:17But overall I thought you did a really nice job of incorporating these materials onto the fabric.
23:24I'm very impressed with how you integrated that bronze piece.
23:30It's just very seamless.
23:32However, from the top up she looks a little more Robocop than avant-garde.
23:40I wish it would look less like a costume and more of you.
23:45Majin, tell us about your look.
23:47I wanted to take a piece of metal and I wanted to almost do like a coral reef effect
23:53where you know sometimes they have interesting shapes and they kind of twist in different directions.
23:58And then I found like some copper and decided to create like a jump out 3D effect.
24:02And I love denim and I wanted to play up on that and I wanted to use the copper and
24:06bronze effect to enhance it.
24:08Well, I was really a big fan of the copper color.
24:11I wish you had almost bumped up the whole concept of the dress so it would have had this larger
24:17than life aesthetic to it.
24:19The actual sculpture was lightweight but as I began to twist the copper, I didn't realize how...
24:26Copper's heavy.
24:26Heavy it was going to be.
24:29But it didn't feel incorporative and didn't really go to an avant-garde place to me.
24:34You know, there's something very beautiful sculptural happening but there's some fit issues.
24:40Yeah.
24:41She was...
24:42Holding it up because it's heavy.
24:43I'm sure you worked for a very long time on this bending everything and twisting it but it does look
24:48stuck on.
24:49You used this unconventional material as decoration.
24:54Is it beautiful decoration? Yes.
24:57Is it that seamless? No.
24:59I understand.
25:01Rick, tell us about your look.
25:03My concept was just to create this texture.
25:06And it first started off with the mosaic glass tiling with the silver aluminum in it.
25:10And I also wanted to play with the light with the army dog tags and added the spikes.
25:15And then these were the little rollers from curtains that I just cut up and, you know, beaded on.
25:21And the fabric I bought at Mood was the leather neoprene and the, like, metallic tweed.
25:27And I just wanted something you could definitely purchase right off the runway.
25:30I loved it.
25:31I thought your blend of textures worked perfectly.
25:34We've seen tiling used as a material before on the show, but I think you did it really well here.
25:40I love her hair and makeup.
25:42Can you turn around?
25:44They're really cool.
25:45Yeah.
25:45I love how you did the double pony and she looks very interesting.
25:50Working with very unusual materials, you managed to give us something very polished.
25:56I love this look.
25:57It is very bold, but it's also very wearable.
26:01And it doesn't mean avant-garde has to be so outrageous that you can't wear it.
26:05Right?
26:06No.
26:06Nope.
26:07I really like it.
26:10Cornelius, tell us about your look.
26:12So what I was most inspired by was living organisms and how a parasite can consume them.
26:18And so I wanted to create, like, different shapes, like it's in and out.
26:22It's kind of like a little bit alien-esque, so that's what I was going for.
26:26Will you tell us what materials you used?
26:28Pretty much neoprene and then I used air ventilation tubes.
26:31Every time that I see something about the future, I feel like there's always tubes attached to it.
26:37It's a little bit of a cliche, but some of this is also a little bit disturbing.
26:42When I see the tube coming out of her uterus and into her lung and all this, it's a little
26:49scary.
26:50Was that what you were going for?
26:51Yes.
26:52You did make that point.
26:53Sorry.
26:54And then in terms of the rest of the dress, I've seen this cowl from you now twice, I believe.
27:00You know, I don't think this was your strongest work today.
27:02Okay.
27:04Laurence, tell us about your look.
27:05Well, I was inspired by the warehouse and the dirt and the metal and I wanted to create, like, a
27:11crazy dress, a little black dress.
27:16Why do you always find it so hard to talk about your work?
27:19I don't know.
27:20I just like to make stuff.
27:21I don't like to talk very much.
27:22I do have to say I love your look.
27:24Yeah.
27:24I mean, yes, we've seen the shoulder from you before.
27:27I just wish it wasn't a different color.
27:29I've always worn a tremendous amount of black and what it's done is always sort of kept me in the
27:34background of things.
27:36And as I'm becoming more confident, taking fashion risks, I'm wearing prints and wearing colors.
27:41And you realize that people just react to you differently because it shows a tremendous amount of confidence in who
27:47you are.
27:47And I think that's what we look to clothes and fashion to give us.
27:50This dress, you could have the exact same cut and embellishments and put it with a collar or put it
27:56with a print and it would really just stun and win a room.
28:00I love it.
28:01I think it's really chic.
28:03I think you played with textures really nicely.
28:06I thought it looked like attire.
28:08But I agree with Heidi.
28:09I think it's important to go for those risks.
28:12Okay.
28:13You are so strict.
28:15Really, everybody took risk.
28:16And I think you stayed in your very safe zone.
28:20I want to see you have fun.
28:22I want to see you be bold.
28:24A moment of breaking through.
28:27I understand.
28:28Erin, tell us about your look.
28:29I really wanted to go avant-garde.
28:31And I was thinking of like a paper doll dress.
28:33So just kind of like how a paper doll dress gets put on and there's like these tabs that get
28:37like pulled over.
28:38And so that's kind of like where I went with it.
28:40What is it made out of?
28:42This is like the metal gray and then this is leather that I got from Mood and then I created
28:47these little things.
28:48I really like this.
28:50The fact that it was pants.
28:51It was color.
28:52It was textures.
28:53Things that we weren't seeing on the runway.
28:55And the hair and makeup are just really beautiful and tie the whole look together.
28:59I really, really love it.
29:01It is super sexy and sheer.
29:03And then she has these cool pants.
29:06That is bold.
29:07Yeah.
29:07I don't know.
29:08I keep getting like this kind of futuristic Ziegfeld folly quality to it.
29:13And with the hair it brings it to like a Hollywood glamour costume place.
29:16It's working for me.
29:18All in all, I think the effect is very bold.
29:22I think that you used innovation in creating this part here.
29:27I think that this would photograph incredibly well and you delivered.
29:34Okay.
29:34We have heard what you had to say.
29:36We're going to have a little check and then I call you back onto the runway.
29:45The winner of Project Runway will receive $100,000 to launch their line.
29:50A year's supply of Sally Beauty products along with $25,000 in cash, travel and hotel accommodations
29:55to inspiring destinations around the world from best western hotels and resorts.
30:00A new Lexus IS from Mary Kay, an entire year's worth of beauty products for their fashion shows
30:05and professional makeup artist services for their debut show.
30:08A complete sewing and crafting studio from Brothers Sewing and Embroidery.
30:12And the winning designer and model will receive a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine.
30:17Hello.
30:18Hi Tim.
30:18Hi.
30:19Hi.
30:20Hello ladies.
30:22What a fun runway show.
30:24It was very fun.
30:25Very fun.
30:25And very diverse.
30:28Sharika's wearing Majang.
30:30Yeah, this is definitely an up close and personal.
30:33I was just really taken with the colour and contrast to the denim.
30:36I felt like it really passed.
30:38That was a beautiful choice.
30:39And he also, like the other designers, had a very strong concept about what he wanted
30:43to do.
30:44But unfortunately, you know, when you just look, it's just not as polished.
30:49There was some rough construction moments there.
30:51Yes, exactly.
30:51The idea is there and it is bold.
30:54It's just he couldn't execute it.
30:57And we have Paola wearing Cornelius.
31:00The uterus dress.
31:01The parasite.
31:03It's more of a worm.
31:04And I totally see that worm going through her body eating her insides.
31:08I mean, when I saw it, I was like, wow, it is bold.
31:12In terms of execution, it was ambitious.
31:14It's so weird, the tube coming out of the stomach.
31:17Yeah.
31:18To me, it comes out of the belly button.
31:19Like, it's the belly button cord.
31:21No, her belly button's right there.
31:23It's coming out of her uterus.
31:27And Karina is wearing laurels.
31:30Zach, you say you've seen this cowl neck before.
31:33Here, how many times we saw the shoulder?
31:35Four times?
31:36It's safe for her.
31:37Is it?
31:38Very safe.
31:38I'm so happy that you've advised her to push herself.
31:42For me, the shoulders are starting to feel a little gimmicky.
31:45Her designs are so strict.
31:47It is great, but there's no surprise.
31:49And everybody's given us a surprise.
31:51Well, I think for her, this is, like, out there.
31:55She said that she used to design out there.
31:57Used to, but that her style has now evolved.
31:59The amount of work that went into the skirt is unbelievable.
32:03And it's true.
32:04It does look like a tire.
32:05Do you guys not agree, though,
32:06that you think the length would come down just a tad?
32:09But had she gone down with the length,
32:11then it would even look more commercial.
32:13I wouldn't let you wear this dress.
32:15You wouldn't let me wear it?
32:15No.
32:16Why not?
32:17It's safe.
32:17It's safe.
32:18And it's not enough.
32:22Alla is wearing rubbery.
32:24I love the lines that he created
32:26with these hard materials on her body.
32:29I was impressed.
32:30I'm impressed.
32:31What I like that I couldn't really see on the carpet
32:33was all the hand stitching,
32:34because you know it's taken so much time,
32:36and it's very specific and individual.
32:39I thought that was such a nice touch.
32:42But haven't you guys seen this in Project Runway?
32:44Because I have.
32:45I think this is actually one of the better executed versions of this.
32:51Britt is wearing Rick.
32:52When I asked the question,
32:53who did the best one today?
32:55And his hand went up.
32:56I like that,
32:57because he did a really great dress.
33:00I love this.
33:01And this whole thing.
33:03It's so beautiful.
33:04It's just a perfect garment.
33:05I could see myself in that.
33:07Could you?
33:08Yeah.
33:08Yeah.
33:11And we have Tirza wearing Erin.
33:14Is it painful, or what is it?
33:16It's not actually.
33:16It's just a little bit heavy.
33:17Well, she glued all the edges.
33:19That is very nice, by the way, that she did that to not hurt you.
33:23Listen, this was really her challenge.
33:25You know, for me, she didn't disappoint.
33:26Hey, she's got competition, though.
33:28She has high competition.
33:30This little touch here, I love.
33:32Love.
33:33Let's go back to the dress.
33:34Sorry.
33:35Sorry.
33:35This would take such beautiful pictures.
33:38Yes.
33:38She had to cut.
33:39I mean, she created that flower.
33:42And she's so naked on top.
33:44But really, you can't see anything.
33:46Can't see anything.
33:47And I like the ease of just a clean, silky pant.
33:50Put your hands in a pocket.
33:51It's so cool.
33:53Extremely editorial.
33:57I just really, really loved the show today.
33:59They all did great.
34:01Let's talk about Erin.
34:02It was definitely different than the rest of the designers.
34:05And it felt very feminine with these very hard materials.
34:09It takes a lot to make something small
34:12and imagine what that's going to look like 20 steps away.
34:16She is very good with her hands.
34:19She loves color.
34:20And she gave you bold and innovative.
34:22Let's talk about Rick.
34:23He also did a fantastic job.
34:25And the polish was exceptional.
34:27It really looked like something that came out of a store.
34:30The best execution today by far and away.
34:32You know, I could imagine having a good time in that dress.
34:35So it's really between Erin and Rick.
34:37Yes.
34:38I think Majin also did a great job.
34:40It just, in my eyes, wasn't as strong as the others.
34:43I loved these units of this mesh with this copper on themselves.
34:48But this did not cut it today.
34:49And then the execution of the dress itself was sort of hastily made.
34:54Let's talk about Cornelius.
34:55Is that really that avant-garde?
34:57I think that, is there a confusion between sci-fi and avant-garde?
35:01We asked him to be bold and innovative.
35:03And I feel like he was.
35:04I think his look was provocative.
35:08Having had children, the idea of having this piece of fabric coming out of my stomach.
35:15I don't want to see that.
35:16I liked it.
35:17I didn't like it.
35:18It really repelves me.
35:19But see that it's good though when fashion provokes.
35:20The uterus.
35:22All right.
35:23So have we made our decision?
35:33Designers, congratulations.
35:34Avant-garde challenges are so fun.
35:36And you all really took advantage of the opportunity.
35:40But one of you will be named the winner.
35:42And one of you will be out.
35:50Erin.
35:53Congratulations.
35:53You are the winner of this challenge.
35:59Thank you so much, guys.
36:01You lost your way for a bit.
36:03I just was like in the bottom for so long.
36:05You really have had a rollercoaster ride.
36:07I have.
36:07Starting really high, then going really low.
36:09And it's so nice to see you back on top again.
36:11I like this pattern.
36:12I can work with it.
36:16Congratulations.
36:17You can eat the runway.
36:19Oh my God.
36:20It feels so good to be on the top again.
36:24And to win.
36:28You are my friends.
36:30It just feels really good to like be in a good spot again.
36:33It just is going to give me a lot of energy.
36:35It's really going to push me forward.
36:37And help me finish whatever I need to finish to get me to fashion week.
37:13Cornelius we were also split on your dress you had a strong concept but some of us felt that
37:19the placement of the hoses was unflattering and not integrated Cornelius you're in you can leave
37:41the runway thank you guys
37:53it's okay I came here with 16 cents in my pocket and I've done things I never thought I would
