00:11A lot is on the line right now. There's only five people left, but I know that I need to
00:16be one of those people to make it to Fashion Week.
00:23Hi guys. Hello. Hi. How is everyone feeling? Great. I'm feeling extremely nervous.
00:30It would definitely suck to go home right about now, you know. Fashion Week is just a challenge away, so
00:35we have to step it up.
00:36Are you nervous about your big final challenge? Excited. It's the last one before New York Fashion Week. Yes. It's
00:44big.
00:45You know, I've been waiting for this day my whole life. Let's do this. Let's buckle up.
00:50Your challenges have taken you all over New York City, so if you're feeling the way I am, I think
00:57it's time for a change of scenery.
01:01Well, I'm going to send you all on a little trip. You're going to get out of town. You will
01:07be traveling to my hometown, Austin, Texas.
01:11See, I've been putting that German accent on for so long, but really, yeehaw.
01:16I'm a little bit excited because I've never been to Texas before.
01:18They have amazing music, good beer, good barbecue food. Yeehaw.
01:24The city's unofficial slogan is, Keep Austin Weird.
01:28So you'll be taking in the eccentricities and diversities of the city, and we'll be bringing your experiences right back
01:35here to New York City.
01:36So pack your bags, and I'll see you in Austin.
01:39Austin is definitely weird. I'm kind of excited to see what we're going to get into at this point.
01:43Bye, y'all.
01:45Come on, Hottie Belle.
01:47All right, let's go, team.
01:48We're going to sashay over to the hoedown.
01:50That's right.
01:53Texas, here we come.
02:01This is awesome.
02:03I don't know anything about Austin.
02:05Welcome to Best Western Plus. Got you all checked in.
02:08Thank you very much.
02:09Have a great day.
02:09If they say it's weird, I'm going to pay attention to the weirdness.
02:14I don't want to miss it.
02:18Look at this.
02:19It's so pretty.
02:20Oh, my God.
02:22Hello, designers.
02:23Hello.
02:24You all know this dashing gentleman next to me.
02:27A member of the Project Runway family and an extremely talented designer, Nick Berrios.
02:32Hi.
02:33Nick, welcome.
02:35And thank you for having us, I should say.
02:36On behalf of Best Western Hotels and Resorts, welcome to Austin, Texas.
02:42My search for inspiration takes me around the world.
02:46And for the past several years, I've partnered with Best Western on my journey.
02:50Today's Best Western is modern, contemporary, and we thought their stylish new look would help your designs.
02:57Now, designers, since this is a very unconventional city, is what I love about Austin, for this challenge, you will
03:06be creating a look using unconventional materials.
03:11I've won the last two unconventional, so I'm really hoping to win this, make it a trifecta of unconventionality.
03:16For this challenge, you're going to create a high-fashion look inspired by this trip to Austin.
03:24You will shop for materials at two locations.
03:27The first is Georgetown Farm Supply, America's Country Store.
03:32And the second is Stubbs Barbecue, which is Austin's legendary music and barbecue venue.
03:38Yes.
03:39And designers, Nick and the team at Best Western have something very special.
03:43The winner will receive 50 free nights to be used at more than 4,100 Best Western Hotels and Resorts
03:53worldwide.
03:54Oh, sweet.
03:5550, 5, 0.
03:58So, Nick, thank you, and thank you Best Western.
04:01We're really thrilled about all this.
04:02Good luck, y'all.
04:05Designers, let's head off.
04:07Ooh.
04:07Ooh.
04:10Welcome to Georgetown Farm Supply.
04:12Head off.
04:16The Georgetown Supply Company is really interesting.
04:20There's a lot of weird things in there.
04:23Air filters, pots, horse heads, chickens, and ducks.
04:27So, it's going to be weird.
04:32Wow.
04:33I'm just kind of looking around and seeing what pops out, just seeing anything that's weird.
04:39Dried mealworms.
04:40Yes.
04:40Heidi said to get weird.
04:41So, I see these mealworms, and I'm like, this is pretty weird.
04:46The first thing I'm attracted to is, of course, the leather strap for the horses.
04:51I'm probably going to use them as a structure for my garment.
04:54I'm really inspired by the horse harnesses and the leather work.
04:57I know I can make this work and do something really cool and high fashion.
05:01My strategy is definitely go for anything that's going to surprise the judges.
05:07And I see robes.
05:10And I see robes, twine robes.
05:11I really like the color.
05:12I really like the texture.
05:14Designers, time is up.
05:16Everyone needs to be at the checkout counter, please.
05:21All right, designers, let's head out.
05:27Welcome to Stubbs BBQ.
05:29Go, go, go.
05:30So, there's all these little sections around.
05:32There's a section with all this barbecue stuff, band, memorabilia, and just a lot of souvenirs
05:36that embody Austin.
05:40I grab five sunshades.
05:42Then I see guitar picks.
05:43And I get really amped because I love all the colors and like the marble.
05:47And I'm like, these are the perfect things that I can just like, play around with.
05:51All right, designers, time is up.
05:57You guys ready to get back to New York?
06:00Okay.
06:01Let's do this.
06:02Goodbye, Austin.
06:14Oh my god.
06:17Did I got all of this?
06:18I even don't want to mess with it.
06:19Everything's so cute.
06:22Hi.
06:23Hello, Tim.
06:24We're all back from Austin.
06:26So, you have two days for this challenge.
06:28You have until 10 o'clock tonight.
06:30I will be checking in with you tomorrow.
06:33And your model fittings will be tomorrow.
06:35And please take advantage of the brother sewing room.
06:38Okay?
06:39All right, I'll see you tomorrow.
06:40Okay.
06:40Bye, Tim.
06:41Bye, everyone.
06:43This morning, I'm feeling a little bit tired, but I had an idea.
06:48When I'm anxious, when I'm nervous, I tend to make knots, knots, and knots, and knots.
06:54This is the last challenge, and this is the last opportunity to make something that speaks
07:01for me.
07:02And today, I'm making my anxiety dress.
07:07This is gonna be interesting.
07:10This is gonna be interesting.
07:10I plan to show the judges a dress that is made out of weird materials, like bird food, and
07:17leather straps for horses.
07:20Shut the up.
07:22I want the dress to look like a regular dress when it comes down the runway until you get
07:27close to it, and you're like, oh , what is this?
07:29Did you just glue the leather up top?
07:32I glued it, and then I have to hand sew it.
07:34Yeah.
07:35Did you figure out what you're gonna do?
07:37I'm kinda just going free spirit with this one.
07:40I have no clue what I'm gonna do.
07:42I'm just gonna think with my hands, and not too much with my mind, and hopefully it all
07:45comes together.
07:47Oh, my God.
07:49Pin-up page.
07:52I can't see this.
07:53The overall vibe that I'm going for is kinda like this sweet-looking girl, but with a weird
07:58aesthetic.
07:59I'm playing with the guitar picks.
08:00You know, I'm just keeping in mind this weird factor, so I'm like, what did I get
08:03that's weird?
08:04And I'm like, mealworms.
08:09Oh, my God.
08:14Luxury mealworms now.
08:15Oh, Barry, look at my mealworms.
08:17Those have worms?
08:18Mm-hmm.
08:20I really want to make these sort of like 3D flowers, like something that has dimension
08:24and stands out that I can use to put on whatever garment I end up making.
08:30Ugh.
08:31Right?
08:32You know, guitar picks.
08:33Mealworms equals beautiful flowers.
08:36I can't believe how much stuff we got.
08:38I know.
08:38Thank God we have two days, though.
08:40Seeing as there's only five of us left.
08:47It sounds like popcorn.
08:49It sounds like fun.
08:51So I start cutting the vinyl records up in just little squares and triangles.
08:56For the top, I'm making a chest plate with all these vinyl records that add this really
09:00nice sheen to it.
09:01So I'm going to put on the skirt.
09:01They almost look like jewels.
09:02And the back, I'm using the reins for a harness detail.
09:06Hot.
09:06And for the bottom of the skirt, I wrapped around dog leashes and guitar straps that just go
09:11all the way down.
09:12It looks very high-end.
09:16I am freaking out because at this point in time, I'm still experimenting and I have to commit
09:22to a look.
09:23All right.
09:24You ready?
09:24Yes.
09:25I don't know what direction I'm running in.
09:27This is not good.
09:28I'm going to fail.
09:36I don't even have to.
09:38Oh my God.
09:39I take the cups that I cut out in diamond shapes and I'm going to literally start creating
09:44these flowers.
09:46It kind of looks a little bit wild and kind of free-growing on.
09:49I just got to move as fast as possible.
09:53Good morning, everyone.
09:54Can I have everyone's attention?
09:55This challenge determines who among you will move forward to New York Fashion Week.
10:01So this challenge, in many ways more than any other, is the ultimate test of your abilities
10:07to conceptualize, to innovate, and to execute deftly and superbly.
10:13So there is another dimension to this challenge.
10:18Oh .
10:19You will be creating a second look.
10:23Wow.
10:25That look will also be a high-end fashion look.
10:30It will correspond to your unconventional look.
10:33It will be made with conventional materials.
10:36Good.
10:37We are shopping at Mood with a budget of $200.
10:40Yes.
10:41All right.
10:42Let's head off to Mood.
10:45All right, designers.
10:46Time starts now.
10:49The last challenge, the judges told me to mix it up.
10:53So I choose a mustard jersey fabric.
10:57The rest of my life is at stake.
10:58I'm just going to have to make an impeccable dress.
11:02I pick out a black and white tweed fabric that have a little bit of sheen to it.
11:06And I also find this double-faced wool.
11:08It's a little sporty, but I know I could definitely make this work.
11:11Five minutes, everyone.
11:13I plan to use the same silhouette I'm using with my cables on the first dress.
11:20I have to keep it simple.
11:23I don't have time for anything else.
11:25For my conventional look, I'm going with a one-piece jumper that have, like, a culottes pant.
11:31I do find a really good print.
11:33It has pineapples and flowers, and it's weird.
11:37This is going to match my weird unconventional pretty well.
11:40Designers, time is up.
11:42No more shopping.
11:44Thank you, Moon.
11:45Thank you, guys.
11:46Thank you for a great season 15.
11:48So I wish the designers good luck.
11:50Ah!
11:59The twist most definitely has thrown me for a loop.
12:02I'm feeling, you know, a little bit uptight.
12:05This is wild for you because you have to still make it on the look.
12:08I'm doing nuts like crazy, and I cannot see a moment when I'm going to start my second look.
12:16All right, designers.
12:18Like it or not, I'm here to check in with you.
12:21Okay?
12:23How's Erin?
12:24I'm decent.
12:25This is very early stages because I spent a lot of my time creating these little, like, mealworm flowers.
12:32You're applying these fantastic flowers to this.
12:35Yeah.
12:35My concern with your unconventional look is that it not look like a sandwich board with things stuck on it.
12:41Mm-hmm.
12:41All right, let's talk about the conventional look.
12:43So what I want to do is make a pretty deep cut jumpsuit.
12:46This will be fine.
12:48My concerns are here.
12:49Yeah.
12:50I mean, that's how I feel, too.
12:51I'm going to leave you.
12:52Okay, cool.
12:53All right, Erin.
12:55Well, Rick.
12:56Hello, Tim.
12:58You have a lot done.
12:59Talk to me.
13:00This is the unconventional look, and I was kind of playing around with the boots and cowboy boots and doing,
13:05like, a halter and stuff.
13:06I realized it was too Western with the harnesses, so I kind of just kept it very minimal, used the
13:12vinyl, cutting it up.
13:13I was prepared to ask you whether you were being ambitious enough. You've been very ambitious.
13:17Okay.
13:19However, what's the country bumpkin doing here? Amp it up.
13:23Definitely.
13:25Hey, Laurence.
13:26Hello, Tim.
13:27Talk to me about this look.
13:28So, I mean, there's no specific inspiration. I just like the, um, the leather from the horse stuff.
13:34Will these strips of muslin inside the pleats continue to show?
13:38No, that's what I'm working on.
13:40It needs to go away.
13:41Yeah, I know.
13:42Let's move on to this look.
13:44This is just the body, so I'm going to do something similar. So I use the same colors and I
13:50use leather to do the reminding of the belt from the horse stuff.
13:53I will say, this has potential for being completely fabulous.
13:57Okay.
13:57It's not there yet.
13:59Work, work.
14:02Robberis, this is why your fingers are covered with bandages.
14:05Yes.
14:06Talk to me. What are you doing?
14:07Uh, for this challenge, I really wanted to incorporate something that spoke about me. When I'm very anxious, I make
14:16knots. I think this is almost finished, ready to fit the model.
14:21You have a second look. Where's that?
14:23I made a sketch. I wanted to, to keep the color palette and I want to incorporate another textile. Three.
14:31Yeah, because, you know, to, to have the, the sort of shape.
14:35I fully understand. I can't imagine how you're going to have time to do all this. I am in a
14:40mad panic over this.
14:42I could be going home. Cornelius. Hi, Tim. How are you? I'm feeling everyone's pain. Yeah, it's a lot. What
14:51I wanted to create were like these kind of like wild flowers kind of growing on this garment.
14:57What are they made out of? Um, they're cups. From where I stand, you need to, you need more of
15:03these. You need to amp it up. Sure.
15:05I think that Cornelius isn't pushing the unconventionalness of it, especially after like all of the supplies that you get
15:10from Austin and you come back with plastic cups.
15:13So this one, I wanted to keep it a little bit more simplistic because I wanted it to be a
15:17nod of this one. Yeah.
15:18So what I was thinking was doing a simple black jumpsuit, tailored leg, or I could even do separates.
15:24I think separates would be a lot easier to execute.
15:26In terms of staying here and going to Fashion Week, I believe the lion's share of your time is best
15:35spent here.
15:36Okay. This isn't a throwaway, but it's not going to be the star player either. Right.
15:41All right, designers. As you all know, I am very worried about your time.
15:47And I just want to underscore how important it is that you use your time well. Work hard and work
15:53smart.
15:54Your models will be in at 8. You'll have about 90 minutes in the morning. You know what to do.
15:59Okay.
16:00Okay. Thank you, everyone. Thank you.
16:02Are you changing a lot?
16:04Like I have to change it. If I don't, I'm going to just like kick myself in the ass. Right.
16:08I have to get rid of this A-line dress. I really don't want to go up there and be
16:11like, this is not unconventional enough.
16:23Hi. How are you? Oh my God. My model feeling actually is going up pretty well. I don't have a
16:31lot of changes to make. It's just like a lot of little touch-ups.
16:34More like madame. Turn this way so I can see if it's going to even get up your butt. Yeah.
16:41This one might not fit you well.
16:42My unconventional look was supposed to be for Tirza, but it didn't fit her very well. Perfect. It fits Lai
16:49perfectly and I think it looks really high fashion on her.
16:52So this is obviously going to be a weirder thing to try on. Ooh, dope. That actually works really well.
16:59Okay. I'm going to add a snap to that.
17:01For my unconventional look, the fitting goes really well. The bustier fits nice. But for my conventional look, she looks
17:07very innocent. So I know I definitely have to edge this look up a lot.
17:11I can't believe you just whipped that out so fast. That's insanity.
17:15Amazingly, I'm ready to try the conventional dress on Priscilla. And it works and it looks beautiful.
17:23I'll see you guys tomorrow. Take it. Take the chicken.
17:26My models. Fashion week is just a challenge away. There may be two people going home on this challenge, so
17:32we have to step it up.
17:43Good morning, everyone. How are you? Good morning. Okay, here's the morning drill. I'll be sending your models in. You
17:49will have an hour to send them to the Sally Beauty Studio and the Mary Kay Color and Design Studio.
17:54When they return, you will have 15 minutes to prep them for the runway. You all know what to do
17:59with the Just Fab accessories wall, yes? Use it thoughtfully. Yes.
18:02Yes. I will be sending your models in soon. Thank you, everyone.
18:08I know that I have a lot to do. And honestly, I just have to move. Hi, baby. I'm really
18:18excited about this. So I just want to try this on you to see for proportions. Woo! It feels like
18:23the first runway day all over again.
18:25Seeing my unconventional look, the knots are still distant from each other. I'm going to make
18:31a tube skirt with elastic gauze underneath. I'm very nervous because I hope nothing pop out of anything.
18:44The unconventional is pretty much done, but my conventional look, if I say I'm feeling great, I'll be lying to
18:51you. The problem is this muster dress, I just don't care for it.
18:57But I'm not going home. I came here to fight and that's what I'm going to do. I try to
19:02make the best out of my mess.
19:08I want to split right down the middle, but I want fullness to it. Okay, so maybe we'll add some
19:13pieces just to give that density to it.
19:15Awesome. And maybe a little dry shampoo right at the root to kind of puff it out a little bit.
19:18Perfect.
19:19Ask her to get her hair straight for a change. You can give her a side part, but try to
19:23get it like as sleek as possible.
19:25As sleek as possible. When life gives you lemons, use edge control gel. We can absolutely do that. We got
19:31it.
19:31We're Sally Beauty. We'll always make you beautiful.
19:35So for the makeup, I'm kind of thinking keep it very like smokey eye, high fashion.
19:39Okay. We'll start concentrating on the lower lash line like this and then smoking it out this way. Look at
19:45that.
19:45That's kind of cool, right? Yeah. Thanks Luis. Thank you.
19:48I want the makeup to be simple. Okay. Beautiful.
19:51We should give her CC cream so that she has more of a healthy glow to her skin. Yeah.
19:57And then I'll take this color called crystalline that's beautifully sparkly. Definitely.
20:04Designers in 10 minutes, you and your models and I are going down to the runway. All right.
20:09Yeah. I'll see you in 10 minutes. Thank you. Thank you.
20:11I think I should have put this zipper in. It's an overwhelming feeling right now.
20:17Just thinking about being steps away from fashion week or steps away from going home.
20:23I'm a little nervous about Cornelius because the unconventional use of materials wasn't pushed hard enough.
20:30Designers and models, we're going down to the runway everyone. Come with me.
20:34Take your time. Take your time. Take your time. Take your time. Turn.
20:38Cornelius.
20:40Cornelius.
20:41All right. Let's go. Heels.
20:43I actually finished both parts.
20:46Honestly, right now, I think I'm going to be on the top.
20:49All right. Off we go. It's going to be a great show.
20:53Holy moly.
21:01Hello, everybody, and welcome to the runway.
21:04As you know, in fashion, one day you're in and the next day you're out.
21:09For this challenge, you created two looks.
21:11We sent you to the Lone Star State to get a little weird.
21:14You had two days, your materials from Austin, and $200 to put your looks together.
21:20All right. Let's say hello to our judges.
21:22First, we have creative director of Brooks Brothers Women and fashion designer, Zach Posen.
21:26Hey, y'all.
21:27Hello.
21:28Creative director for Marie Claire Magazine, Nina Garcia.
21:31Hi, everybody.
21:33Actress Priyanka Chopra, star of the hit series, Quantico, and soon to be appearing in Baywatch.
21:38Welcome.
21:39Hello.
21:40Hi.
21:40And designer and co-founder of luxury brand Marquesa and Project Runway All-Stars judge Georgina Chapman.
21:47Welcome.
21:48Hi, designers.
21:49Hello.
21:50Also, we have Tim Gunn here for the runway show.
21:52And as you know, he is your mentor and will not be judging your looks.
21:55We also have an anonymous runway.
21:57That means the judges will not know which designer created which look when it walks the runway.
22:01All right. Let's start the show.
22:03And good luck.
22:12I'm really excited about the worms on my dress because it's like taking something and beautifying
22:17it.
22:18And with the worms, I just love their reactions.
22:27I think that what I made was awesome, especially within the timeframe.
22:31Loving the pineapples.
22:32It looks really good.
22:34But I'm still on edge because what the judges say is what depends if we get to go to fashion
22:40week.
22:40And I don't know what to expect.
22:47As my unconventional look walks down the runway, I'm extremely excited about it.
22:55The records that I used up top are catching the light just right.
22:58It's very polished.
23:00It looks so bad.
23:01You can't really tell that it was horse reins and dog leashes and a sun visor.
23:11I'm feeling really good about my conventional look.
23:13It may be a little young, so I'm a little nervous.
23:15I'm just glad that both looks are cohesive.
23:18Given the time allotted, I'm definitely proud of what I made.
23:28Seeing my unconventional look come down the runway, actually, it looks nice.
23:32I like it.
23:32I never thought about high fashion like that before with birdseeds and leather straps.
23:38I love the way you use those kind of things, like the asymmetry.
23:41It came out so good.
23:47When my second look comes down the runway, I'm like, it's just all right.
23:50I needed more work with the leather and the front, but I just didn't have time.
23:54Is she wearing shoulder pads?
23:56Yeah.
23:57I like it.
23:57I'm trying to look at the judges because I'm a mess, actually, inside right now.
24:09Seeing my unconventional look, I'm very excited.
24:15I immediately look at it to see if they like it and they are very intrigued.
24:20That could be great or that could be a disaster.
24:28My second look is powerful.
24:31The colors are explosive.
24:33You're so good at mixing time.
24:36I'm so happy.
24:37I made both dresses with my hands and with my heart.
24:48I feel really excited when I see my unconventional look.
24:52I think it speaks true to my aesthetic and I think it sparkles.
24:56Firework.
24:57I actually created like a print this time and made sure that it was strategic and impactful.
25:06I'm just really excited that my second look is actually finished.
25:10There is a hint of me in there, but it's also a different playing field because I wanted to show
25:15the judges something new.
25:17My fabric is amazing.
25:19It is everything.
25:26The five of you have the highest and the lowest scores.
25:29Four of you will move forward and compete at New York Fashion Week and one of you will be out.
25:38The five of you have the highest and the lowest scores.
25:41Four of you will move forward and compete at New York Fashion Week and one of you will be out.
25:47Designers, this was a very interesting show today.
25:49Everybody showed us great designs.
25:52Super impressive.
25:54Laurence, we're going to start with you first.
25:56Please tell us about your two looks.
25:57Yes, so for the unconventional material, the first thing I picked up was the harness for the horse.
26:02Some bird food, heavy-duty ropes, some paper.
26:05And for the second look, I wanted to keep kind of the same color palette.
26:08Just play with the lines in the back of the dress.
26:10Well, what an extraordinary dress.
26:14Oh, thank you.
26:14It was hard to tell it was yours.
26:17I wanted to surprise you.
26:18You should surprise me.
26:20Incredibly.
26:21This was really beautifully done.
26:24The play between the hard and the soft, between the rope and the harness and the bird seat.
26:31It just has a really beautiful effect.
26:34Your second look, I love the sexiness of the back and I love how you played, again, with the harness.
26:42I think that these two dresses could live in the same collection.
26:46You've really got this wonderful juxtaposition between this very, very sweet silhouette and then it's got this naughty edge.
26:53But your second look, the mustard with the brown, it's a little on the edge.
26:56That outfit, your unconventional outfit, it's unbelievable to me.
27:01And I would never tell that's made from birdseed.
27:03I actually would totally rock that mustard and leather, I think.
27:08You know, I find it a little costume.
27:10It's a Xena, warrior, birdseed.
27:12But it's okay.
27:13It's unconventional.
27:14You had fun.
27:15It was fun, but this one was stressful.
27:18Okay.
27:18Sometimes it's good to get out of your comfort zone.
27:21Now on to your conventional material challenge.
27:24I find it a little boring.
27:26Thank you, models.
27:28Rick, please tell us about your two looks.
27:30For my unconventional materials that I used, I used record vinyl, which is made out of the top part, chest
27:36plate bustier,
27:37and then also dog leashes and guitar leashes as well.
27:41And then for my conventional look, I used a tweed and the leather underneath is a bustier just to add
27:47a little bit of structure.
27:47So I wanted to rough it up and, you know, put my aesthetic into it, which was grungier and edgier.
27:52Dog leashes, really.
27:53It would be something I would totally wear.
27:55I love the back.
27:57It's just the right amount of edgy and dangerous and sexy.
28:00Your unconventional outfit is really epic.
28:04You know, I love this texture with the records.
28:07The bottom to me is not as successful.
28:09It is impeccably made.
28:11Your conventional look just has a little lack of personality.
28:15I could not tell which one was the conventional or the unconventional.
28:20The unconventional is so perfect that it almost lacks a sense of humor.
28:27I do get what you're saying.
28:28And then the conventional looks unfinished.
28:30It looks juvenile.
28:32Eh, it looks like an afterthought.
28:35Your unconventional challenge, I mean beautifully executed.
28:40Then we come to your conventional look.
28:41It looks like you panicked.
28:44Robbery, please tell us about your two looks.
28:46When I'm nervous, I tend to do knots.
28:49The unconventional dress is my very nervous dress.
28:54It's a dress completely made with different knots.
28:57You're an artist.
28:58You have something to say.
28:59Your conventional look is so striking to me.
29:02It's really beautiful.
29:03Well done.
29:04I'm very impressed.
29:05I really am.
29:06I'm impressed with both pieces.
29:08Your conventional materials challenge is not the hardest silhouette, but it reads really well.
29:13But this unconventional materials dress that you did, you are really onto something.
29:18I mean, that is gutsy.
29:19Because there's not really a backup plan once you start knotting.
29:22And you're already six hours into it.
29:25You just gotta keep on knotting.
29:28And I feel like it paid off.
29:30Wow.
29:30Robbery, I think you did a really nice job today.
29:33You know, I like the folkloric 1970s kind of hippie quality of this rope work.
29:39I love your conventional material look.
29:41You know, for me, it was a home run today.
29:43I like the curves of the seams.
29:44I get those curves relating to the curves of the knotting.
29:48I think it's great work.
29:49Great job.
29:51I see two pieces that are so different, but yet come from one person.
29:56And that's quite impressive.
29:59Erin, tell us about your two looks.
30:01So, with the unconventional challenge, I used guitar picks.
30:05And on the inside are mealworms.
30:07And then these are, like, the band pins.
30:10And then for this look, I just kind of wanted to continue the sort of weird vibe.
30:13And so I just picked a fabric I would pick, but, like, not.
30:16So I kind of was like, hmm, I'm gonna go for this.
30:18So.
30:19Wow.
30:20I love it.
30:22Yeah.
30:22I love your play with textures that you build.
30:24You know, it looks like embroidery.
30:26It's 3D.
30:28I love this jumpsuit.
30:29I know a million girls that would wear this right now.
30:32Me.
30:32Me too.
30:33Me too.
30:34Right here.
30:35I love this woman that you present.
30:38For your unconventional look, that texture is just incredible.
30:42And I adore this jumpsuit.
30:43Good job.
30:45I like both looks very much.
30:47The unconventional materials look, I love the top more than the bottom.
30:51Nothing is boring here, which is what I love.
30:53And then for a girl who loves head-to-toe crazy print, sign me up.
30:57I'm impressed.
30:58Cornelius, tell us about your two looks.
31:00For my unconventional look, what I was thinking was a little bit more carefree,
31:03but things that, like, kind of grow sporadically.
31:06I used plastic cups and I spray painted them.
31:09And then for my next look, I wanted to create something a little bit more polished to, like,
31:14complement the looks.
31:15Something different because I haven't shown you guys that I can actually make, like, a jumpsuit
31:19or something.
31:20So, that's what I was going for.
31:21I like both looks.
31:22I love that you created this three-dimensional texture.
31:26I couldn't figure out what it was.
31:28And I love the jumpsuit, too.
31:30We have not seen that from you, and so that is a nice surprise.
31:34I'm fascinated that those are made out of cups.
31:37And then your conventional look, I mean, it's great.
31:40It's a perfect little jumpsuit.
31:41So, nice job.
31:43For your unconventional material, I wish I would have seen you really take a chance.
31:49You know, I've seen this technique.
31:50I don't find it so imaginative.
31:53It feels a little arts and crafty.
31:54But your conventional material was a surprise.
31:58This is something that I would wear.
32:00I would watch the styling because her hair is really covering the most important part.
32:04Absolutely.
32:05Your unconventional outfit doesn't feel too finished, but I love the rompa.
32:10The fit of it, especially, you know, behind, is very, very nice.
32:15Big surprise.
32:17It looks cute.
32:18Yeah, it looks cute.
32:18It looks pretty perfect.
32:19Really perfect.
32:20Thank you, Cornelius.
32:21Thank you, models.
32:24Alright, we have a very tough decision to make here.
32:27We've heard what you had to say.
32:28Now we're going to take a closer look at your designs.
32:31Have a really long chat.
32:33And then I call you back onto the runway.
32:39The winner of Project Runway will receive $100,000 to launch their line.
32:44A year's supply of Sally Beauty products along with $25,000 in cash, travel and hotel accommodations
32:49to inspiring destinations around the world from best western hotels and resorts.
32:53A new Lexus IS from Mary Kay, an entire year's worth of beauty products for their fashion shows and professional
33:00makeup artist services for their debut show.
33:02A complete sewing and crafting studio from Brothers Sewing and Embroidery.
33:06And the winning designer and model will receive a fashion spread in Mary Claire magazine.
33:11Hi.
33:11Hi, Tim.
33:12Hello, ladies.
33:15Would you like to start with Laurence's collection?
33:18Yeah.
33:18So Juanita and Paola.
33:20Wow.
33:21I mean, here I have to say, her unconventional materials look better, close up.
33:27And this looks more sad in person than on the runway.
33:30I don't know why she chose this material.
33:32You see everything.
33:33I don't either.
33:34This was a very different look from her.
33:37The texture is what is so terrific.
33:39I really like this connection.
33:41Me too.
33:42This is the creative side and she really went for it.
33:46And we have Ala and Priscilla wearing roberi.
33:50Wow.
33:51I'm impressed that he can even do that.
33:53The detail.
33:55It's very beautiful.
33:56This was quite a risk.
33:58This kind of shows a seed of where a whole collection could go.
34:02But the stellar piece is this.
34:04The presso resistance.
34:05This is amazing.
34:06I love it.
34:07Amazing.
34:07He's the only one that was really creative in his second look.
34:11He really went somewhere else.
34:12He went with both.
34:16Britt and Karina wearing arrows.
34:18I want to see the worms.
34:20Worms.
34:20Yes.
34:21That's amazing.
34:23And they've been spray painted gold.
34:25Fantastic.
34:26She's just used to everything.
34:28I like this.
34:29There's something really snappy and sassy about it.
34:32I am not impressed by this.
34:34It looks like a pajama.
34:35This was an afterthought.
34:37I would wear that.
34:37She got away with it.
34:38I want it too.
34:38I want this so bad.
34:40To be able to create a moment, I think I give her credit for that.
34:45We have Sharika and Alicia wearing Rick.
34:48Oh.
34:49It was quite a beautiful texture that he created there.
34:53It's stunning.
34:53Yum.
34:54This for me started to feel a little bit more costumey.
34:58I liked it.
34:58I liked it too.
35:00Me too.
35:00He makes a dress out of unconventional materials and makes it look like you can actually wear
35:05it out and get away with it.
35:06I just, you know, here he really went very amateur.
35:10It doesn't feel like the same designer in the sense.
35:12It feels like it's panicked, this look.
35:14It is.
35:15I hate to say it, but it's boring.
35:20Lais and Tirza are wearing Cornelius.
35:23This is a piece that had so much more impact when it was walking.
35:27And as soon as they stood still, it started to disintegrate a little bit.
35:32But I think this is pretty cool what he did here.
35:34I mean, it definitely is out there.
35:36I don't find it that out there.
35:38It's just fabric with stuff glued on.
35:41Yeah.
35:41It's funny because this does feel so made at home.
35:45While this feels so polished and grown up.
35:49But it just doesn't feel like the same designer when I'm looking at these two.
35:54All right, so we've made our decision.
35:59Let's bring them back out.
36:03Designers, four of you will move forward to New York Fashion Week.
36:07And one of you will be out.
36:12Ruberi.
36:16Congratulations, you are the winner of this challenge.
36:19Thank you very much.
36:21Ruberi, as the winner of this challenge, you will receive 50 complimentary nights from Best Western.
36:26Yay.
36:28That you can use at any of their locations from around the world.
36:32But even more exciting, Ruberi, you'll be going to New York Fashion Week.
36:36Congratulations.
36:46Good luck.
36:47You can leave the runway.
36:50I'm fantasizing my collection since I got the letter saying you're going to be on Project Runway.
36:55The next step is to go and make a collection.
36:59And I'm scared.
37:01Yay!
37:06Erin.
37:08Congratulations.
37:08You're moving to New York Fashion Week.
37:13I'm really excited to show you guys what I'm going to do.
37:16I feel so honored and really fortunate to be able to go to Fashion Week.
37:25I'm so ready to basically treat this like a challenge every day and just make the most amazing collection.
37:29I have no idea what it is, but I know it's going to be dope.
37:35Laurence.
37:36Yes.
37:37Congratulations.
37:38You will also be showing at New York Fashion Week.
37:41Thank you so much.
37:42Promise I won't disappoint you.
37:44We want to see an amazing collection coming from you.
37:46I will.
37:47I will.
37:47Thank you guys.
37:48Bravo.
37:51I'm going to Fashion Week.
37:52I'm free to be myself again and just create what I want to create and present to you.
37:59Yes!
38:00Good friend.
38:02I knew it.
38:03This collection is going to be everything.
38:04That's a promise.
38:05I'm actually excited to have Tim come to my house and come to my space this time.
38:12And I'm going to tell him what to do.
38:14Congrats guys.
38:16This is it.
38:19Rick, Cornelius, you are both incredibly talented, but unfortunately only one of you will move forward to New York Fashion
38:26Week.
38:26And one of you will be out.
38:30Rick, your unconventional dress was sleek and polished, while your conventional dress was a bit more conventional.
38:38Cornelius, the unconventional dress felt a little arts and crafts.
38:42The romper was really well done.
38:44But then we were lacking a real sense of surprise.
38:49Rick.
38:49Rick.
38:50Rick.
38:52Rick.
38:55Rick.
38:58Rick.
38:58You're in.
39:01And you are moving forward to New York Fashion Week.
39:04Congratulations.
39:07Thank you guys for believing in me.
39:08You can leave the runway.
39:11I never really thought I would make it to Fashion Week.
39:13And now I'm like, oh, it's real.
39:18Are you coming?
39:19Yeah, I'm going to Fashion Week.
39:21Yay!
39:23I'm extremely thrilled and can't wait to come back to New York.
39:27Yes!
39:33Cornelius, it really is breaking my heart that I have to tell you this for the second time.
39:38But that means you're out.
39:40Okay.
39:41We think that you are so very talented.
39:46Auf Wiedersehen.
39:47Thank you guys.
39:48I wish you all the best.
39:49Thanks.
39:49It's been a good ride.
39:51I don't think I should have been eliminated.
39:53For me to send out something that I'm completely in love with shows a little bit of growth.
39:57But, you know.
39:59Damn.
40:01That close.
40:03Hi guys.
40:04Hey baby.
40:05Oh my god, don't even cry.
40:06Please.
40:07I've been through it.
40:08I learned that Cornelius is a strong individual.
40:11I'm a very creative person and I like to actually dig my hands into things.
40:15If this can't get me to where I need to get, I'm going to do it on my own.
40:21Well, I am here to say that this is a moment to celebrate.
40:24And Cornelius, I'm going to begin with you.
40:27Look what you've achieved.
40:28You're one of the final five.
40:30Thank you, Tim.
40:30So, congratulations to Cornelius.
40:34And now I do have to send you to the work room to clean up your space.
40:37That's cool.
40:38Alright.
40:38We will hear and see much, much more from you.
40:42You most definitely will.
40:43That's for sure.
40:44Alright.
40:45Making it this far is a humbling experience.
40:48I can only look up from here.
40:50I can get back home and actually build a brand on my own.
40:53Project Runway is everything.
40:57Actually, it's something that opens the area, while you're struggling to click on it.
40:58Finally, he's on the spot, and it's feeling different.
