00:09I'm so tired.
00:11You put in a lot of work to get that win.
00:13I'm happy.
00:14How was yesterday for you, babe?
00:16Oh, well, you know.
00:17I'm sure everyone enjoys being in the bottom twice.
00:20In a row.
00:21I know how it feels.
00:22In a row.
00:23I was in the bottom twice in a row.
00:30Where are we in the men's section?
00:33Interesting.
00:34Guys, here.
00:35We're doing menswear.
00:37I just walked into your dream world, huh?
00:39I'm really excited.
00:40Menswear's my background, so, yeah, I'm really feeling confident.
00:43Good morning, designers.
00:44Good morning, Tim.
00:45Please join me in welcoming our very special guest, Monica Doulton,
00:50Design Director of Contemporary Brands at JCPenney.
00:53Hello, designers, and welcome to JCPenney.
00:55We are thrilled to be partnering with Project Runway,
00:57and I am so excited to present you with your next challenge.
01:00I have to say, though, some of you look a little apprehensive.
01:04Yes.
01:05You can relax.
01:06You are not designing for men.
01:08Oh, okay.
01:09What the ?
01:12Phew.
01:13That was a close one.
01:14But you are using menswear as inspiration for your looks for this challenge.
01:20Okay.
01:20The clothes that the models are wearing are essential to this challenge
01:25because the fabric in their outfits will be your point of departure for what you create.
01:31Each model has two cards, and each card has one of your names on it.
01:36We're going to begin with Aiden.
01:39Aiden has Kenya and Contaro.
01:41Okay.
01:41So, Kenya and Contaro, you will be using the fabric associated with the model for your look.
01:47Anthony, who do you have?
01:48Yeah.
01:49You have Brandon and Sean.
01:50Oh, my God.
01:51Thomas, who do you have?
01:53Ayana and Botany.
01:55Luke.
01:56Luke has Amy and Claire.
01:58Denim.
01:59And that means that Todd has Margarita and Michael.
02:02All right.
02:03Great.
02:03Now everyone has their fabric.
02:04Yes.
02:05But there's one more thing.
02:08This is a team challenge.
02:11Team challenges make me very nervous.
02:13There's already enough stress to get your own look out, and now you have to coordinate with someone else.
02:18That's just a lot.
02:19Here it is.
02:20Wow.
02:21Thanks, Ryan.
02:22Oh!
02:23Oh, it's not my fabric.
02:24You're making assumptions.
02:26Oh!
02:27For this challenge, you will be working in teams of two, and each team will create two cohesive looks.
02:34When I call your name, you will choose a teammate.
02:39However, the team member you choose may not have the same fabric as you.
02:44The winner will be chosen from the winning team, and a designer from the losing team will be eliminated.
02:50Kentaro, since you won the last challenge, you get to choose your team member first.
02:55Uh, my brother, Brendan.
02:58All right.
02:59Yeah, me and my brother, Kentaro K-Dog.
03:02Our next designer to choose is Amy.
03:04I pick Kenya.
03:07Next is Claire.
03:09This was a really hard one.
03:11I think I'm gonna go with Sean.
03:12Plot twist.
03:13Brothers and brothers, sisters and sisters.
03:16Score!
03:17Yes!
03:17The next designer is Margarita.
03:19I would love to work with Botany.
03:23All right.
03:24Well, our last team is easy.
03:25It's Ayana and Michael.
03:27And designers, your look should be a stylish fall outfit inspired by menswear.
03:31Because JC Penney will be creating a limited edition of the winning look right here in New York.
03:37And offering it for sale tonight at the end of the show.
03:40Holy crap.
03:41Oh my gosh.
03:43This will be available to the people that I want to reach out to.
03:46It's like tons of exposure.
03:48This is my redemption challenge.
03:50You are going to have 30 minutes to sketch here.
03:53Each team will have $100 for mood.
03:57Oh.
03:57And this is for notions, trims, and supplemental fabric.
04:02But I do mean supplemental.
04:03Only one team member needs to go.
04:06Designers, good luck.
04:07I can't wait to see your final looks.
04:08All right.
04:09Your sketching time begins now.
04:11Very good.
04:14We have a pretty clean color palette.
04:16Ooh, I have Jasmine.
04:18Let's see what you have.
04:18Okay, I have Monique.
04:19Okay.
04:19This is going to be a good one.
04:21I want to do an oversized button up.
04:23You know, I'll play on menswear because I like a boyfriend shirt.
04:26Okay.
04:26I think a jogger is a good idea.
04:29It's a kind of futuristic sporty versus country, right?
04:32Right, right.
04:32We're off to a good start.
04:33I'm thinking about joggers, hoodies, jackets, things that will easily read menswear.
04:40Have like some kind of like...
04:41Yeah.
04:42Who did you get?
04:43Oh, I got Alina.
04:44Alina.
04:45Ooh, my shot.
04:46This is good.
04:46Cool.
04:47I want to do like an oversized kind of like if you're wearing your boyfriend's shirt type
04:50of thing.
04:51But I do want to make it feminine.
04:53I want to make a shirt dress because I didn't do very well in my last pair of pants.
04:57So I'm just thinking, how about you just stay away from the pants for a minute.
05:01Take a little pant break.
05:02Maybe make a dress.
05:03What are your thoughts on this dinner?
05:04What I see is a denim suit and then we could do a knit top.
05:08Okay, cool.
05:09I want some of that Amy to come out because I think she creates great things.
05:13Who do we have first?
05:15Lyriss.
05:16Okay.
05:17This will be my second more curvaceous woman.
05:21But Lyriss pulls off anything you put her in.
05:24So I'm very excited to have Lyriss.
05:26What were you thinking?
05:27Like a menswear style pant, a matted style top.
05:31It's fall, Claire.
05:32I know.
05:33But that...
05:35Just...
05:35I'm working on this.
05:37Okay.
05:37I'm just saying...
05:38It's fall.
05:39Alright designers, it's time to go to mood or to the work room.
05:42So follow me.
05:43Coming.
05:44Start it.
05:44Oh .
05:45Sorry, Daisy Petty.
05:53Let's go with two to start.
05:55Four yards.
05:56Four of this size.
05:58And 25 of that size.
06:00This one is $50,000.
06:02Can I do 25?
06:13I'm really loving the environment in the work room.
06:17We're all kind of in the zone.
06:18It's very zen.
06:20It's quiet.
06:21It's kind of nice.
06:23Oh my goodness.
06:24Where is she?
06:25Hi guys.
06:26Hi.
06:27Claire, I'm here.
06:28Sure enough, we're saying it's Claire, Shawnee.
06:32And it's back to...
06:36Do you want to check out what I brought?
06:37Let's do this, yeah.
06:38I feel pretty confident working with Michael.
06:40We both have won a challenge.
06:42So Michael and I definitely have something to prove now.
06:45Yeah, that's perfect.
06:51We're making a crop top hoodie, oversized hood.
06:54And then a long duster jacket is one look.
06:57The other being a two-piece kind of long john
07:00in the gray waffle knit.
07:02And we're definitely feeling confident.
07:03Do you know how to do a collar?
07:04Just like a clean simple collar?
07:06Which kind?
07:06The one that goes like this?
07:08Or the...
07:09No, no, shirt collar.
07:10Oh yeah, yeah.
07:11Yeah, yeah.
07:11I haven't really done menswear.
07:14And then you can put the buttons right here.
07:15Margarita has a lot of experience
07:17and so I'm good to just be teamed up with her
07:20and learning from her.
07:21Trace this outside edge right here.
07:24Or just go in like this.
07:25You think she's going to look way too dowdy?
07:27Don't think about it because she is a different size
07:31than you are.
07:32Think about it how you would want to wear it.
07:34That's the way she's going to want to wear it.
07:35I really, really, really do not want to cover up Lyris.
07:39I want to highlight her figure.
07:41But I don't know what direction to take
07:44because I don't know her body.
07:46Do you want it to gather a lot at the sleeve?
07:49Or just more on one side?
07:51More on one side.
07:52Shawn just simply cannot make it
07:54without her sister Claire.
07:55There's a weak link between them
07:57if they can't be together.
07:59So Shawn doing something completely on her own
08:02is not going to happen.
08:03I think Shawn relied a lot on me for the last challenge.
08:06And that's frustrating.
08:08It's frustrating.
08:09I too want to succeed in this competition.
08:12Can I have a pen still?
08:14Give me the pen.
08:15The pen.
08:16I feel like you're abandoning me.
08:18I'm not abandoning you.
08:20Kinda.
08:20I want to do well.
08:22I want to prove to these judges
08:23that I have design and taste.
08:26And it doesn't always lend itself to that
08:30when I have to help someone else.
08:33Claire, we need to tackle this together.
08:36Coming up on Project Runway.
08:38Whoa.
08:39Yeah.
08:39Looks like a hospital gown.
08:41You seem undone.
08:42Let me just explain what I'm going to do.
08:44I'm in love with both of these looks.
08:46This is really uncle-y.
08:47Very now.
08:48So sophisticated.
08:50It is wackadoodle.
08:51I'm just confused.
08:52What is this?
09:01This week's challenge is to create a womenswear look
09:03that's been inspired by menswear
09:04with fabrics provided by JCPenney.
09:07Oh my God, seriously.
09:09Shawn and I are working together
09:10and I think we both are having major issues
09:14with the textiles.
09:15And trying to make two cohesive looks
09:19that are interesting and new
09:21is quite the challenge.
09:25Good heavens.
09:26What a quiet work room.
09:28We're always so quiet.
09:30Wow.
09:30I like it.
09:31It means you're...
09:32Focused.
09:33Contemplative.
09:33Well, I'm here to check in with the teams.
09:35Alright?
09:36Alright.
09:38Margarita.
09:39Botany.
09:39How are you doing?
09:40So what I'm doing is a wrap dress
09:43with a suit jacket element on top.
09:46So I'm doing it out of this material.
09:48You're toughening up the wrap dress.
09:50Yeah.
09:51It's a good direction.
09:52For mine, I'm kind of reassembling the men's stretch shirt.
09:57Oh.
09:58I'm starting to use this fabric
10:00and I want it to have functional buttons.
10:03So make a placket and put in buttonholes?
10:05Right.
10:06It's a lot of work.
10:09You seem...
10:12Undone.
10:13I'm just trying to do something great.
10:15Well, that's good.
10:17I almost went home.
10:18Don't let the last challenge...
10:20It's behind me. It's behind me.
10:21Put it behind you.
10:23I'm feeling a little more secure,
10:25but, you know, I'm just...
10:26Let me just get this done.
10:28Like, I'm trying to budget my time.
10:29I just have to focus on Margarita
10:31and just not even worry about
10:33what is going on around me.
10:34We decided to do a denim,
10:37two-piece of denim jacket and denim trousers.
10:40Okay.
10:41So a pants suit.
10:42Pants suit.
10:42Mm-hmm.
10:43We thought that separates would be good
10:44for JCPenney to sell.
10:46I have one sincere question.
10:48Does this bow make that matronly?
10:53It wouldn't have to be worn as a bow.
10:55It would be...
10:56It's better already.
10:57Yeah, just be a loose scarf.
10:59It looks more modern.
11:00I agree with that.
11:01And I like that idea.
11:02All right, good.
11:05So for my look, I'm creating a interpretation
11:08of a shirt dress.
11:09Okay.
11:10And it's also gonna have a jacket.
11:13I have a very positive response to it.
11:15But I'm looking at this.
11:18Looks like a hospital gun.
11:21The design with the fabric is a total no.
11:25But I feel like once I attach the sleeves and things,
11:29I can make it work.
11:30I mean, I could always belt it if we need to.
11:33Okay.
11:33I believe.
11:34I believe.
11:35Okay.
11:35Okay?
11:36I'm spiritually with you.
11:39Kintour and Brandon, how are you?
11:41Good.
11:41Good.
11:42We are going to do like sport casual look.
11:46I wanna make you like little sexy, but like men's...
11:49Elements.
11:50Elements.
11:50Okay.
11:51To it.
11:52And what are you working on, Brandon?
11:54So I'm working on this cropped hoodie in black.
11:59The whole hoodie in black or just the hood?
12:01Just the whole thing.
12:02I think the whole thing.
12:03Okay.
12:03And then this is gonna be on top of super long...
12:07It's like a jacket.
12:08Jacket.
12:08Yeah.
12:09Well, I have a hard time wrapping my brain around the black textile.
12:14I see this marriage being a very happy one.
12:17And then suddenly there's this dark cloud.
12:20Does it really work for you?
12:22This kind of gives kind of sport it.
12:23Let's go to yoga kind of look.
12:25But that's not what this exudes.
12:27Do you think?
12:28Mind meld and make decisions about how to move forward with this.
12:32Okay.
12:33All right, Tim.
12:34Thank you so much.
12:36So for Lyriss, I know that Lyriss loves to show off her figure.
12:40At first, I was thinking about doing a bodycon dress, but a...
12:45Wait, hold on.
12:46Hold on.
12:46Let me just explain what I was gonna do.
12:48I don't want to envelop Lyriss.
12:51Claire and I don't traditionally design plus size.
12:54No.
12:55And at least...
12:55Oh, wait, no, no.
12:55I'm gonna hear from Claire, too, about this.
12:57Oh, well, Claire, yeah.
12:57Yeah.
12:58If you could just partner.
12:59Yeah, I just wanna...
13:00I was trying to go more with that urban look and a t-shirt with...
13:06This is where we might be getting too busy, too.
13:08This is where we might be getting too busy, too, because...
13:11Oh, whoa.
13:13Yeah.
13:13Okay.
13:14Well, Claire, explain what it would look like.
13:16It actually is tied over the bust.
13:19Claire, step back.
13:21Look at this.
13:22Ugh.
13:25I would say within the next half hour...
13:28Yes.
13:29...nail this conceptually...
13:31Okay.
13:31...and do it.
13:32Okay.
13:32Well, thank you very much, Tim.
13:34Thank you, Claire.
13:35We have to back away.
13:39We're scrambling.
13:40The models are coming in in about, like, an hour.
13:42Yeah.
13:43That's not a good sign.
13:45Oh.
13:46Oh.
13:51Hey.
13:52Hi.
13:53Nice to meet you.
13:54Nice to meet you.
13:55Get it on, girl.
13:56Get it on.
14:01Great color on you, girl.
14:02And then it goes into this hole.
14:04I'm just worried, because Sean is my designer.
14:07But I know that her and the sister bounce off of each other.
14:10And I just feel like one is always trying to help the other one,
14:14and he never gets stuff finished, and I don't have anything to try on right now, so...
14:17And then I'll do my sweatshirt the same length.
14:20I'm very excited to see the finished product.
14:22Brandon and Katara, they work really well together,
14:24so I think it's going to look fabulous.
14:27Here, do you want to pin her, then, and also the pin look?
14:29Yeah.
14:30Since you took over, anyway?
14:32Oh, sorry.
14:33I've been in the top three, so Amy's kind of relying on that,
14:38thinking that I know something magical, maybe.
14:41You think you're okay with the sleeves, Kenya?
14:43So it's kind of a lot of pressure on me to make sure that this is good.
14:47At this point, I'm not sure what to think.
14:50Bye.
14:51Oh, we're going to have fun.
14:52Bye, Nicole.
14:54We did it good, right?
14:55Yeah.
14:55I think so.
14:55It's going to be sick.
14:56Okay.
15:05Kentaro, I'm just asking you now, would you feel offended if I ended up doing a legging boot,
15:11kind of like you did before?
15:13I would say I would give Kentaro credit for it.
15:16Well, I don't mind, but my denim was very stretchy.
15:20It's stretchy.
15:20Although being inspired by fashion is an absolutely normal part of the process,
15:25when one directly decides to design a garment solely from garments that already exist,
15:33you're asking for trouble.
15:35You should ease it in.
15:36It'll look, you know, have that look.
15:37Do you want me to stitch it real quick?
15:39Yeah.
15:39Like a base stitch?
15:40Yeah.
15:41I'm feeling a little annoyed.
15:42There's not a lot of time for this challenge, and I have a lot to do, but I have to
15:46worry
15:46about botany.
15:47I'm, like, on a mission.
15:49Oh, sorry, Margaret.
15:50Sorry.
15:51Sorry.
15:52What?
15:53Stop.
15:54Don't say put on the board.
15:55Stop.
15:58Sean and I are getting really snippy with each other.
16:00What do you want to do?
16:01I'm going to ease it in, okay?
16:04Okay.
16:05But that's how we are when things get tough, when things get late at night.
16:10Well, let's stick with the side first.
16:12I like the boot.
16:13Let's stick with the side.
16:15Okay.
16:15Give me a second.
16:17I'm tired.
16:18It's been a long day, and we need to get this finished.
16:21Let's just zen.
16:23Let's not think of anyone else as being here, okay?
16:25Are you going to finish that green top today, or, like, what do you think on that?
16:29That is my goal.
16:31That's worrying me, because it just doesn't seem important enough to be spending time on
16:35right now.
16:35All right.
16:36Hey, guys.
16:37A little birdie told me that time's up.
16:39If this had been my student, I mean, I could have stopped her, but she's not my student.
16:43You know, she's supposed to be my teammate, and that's extremely frustrating.
16:47I mean, like, I'm not looking forward to tomorrow.
16:57Coming up on Project Runway.
16:59Dream change.
17:00I'm feeling this.
17:01Oh, my God.
17:03More.
17:04What is going on?
17:05Does that look okay to you?
17:06No.
17:06Hate it.
17:07It's just irritating.
17:09I mean, it's JCPenney.
17:10It ain't church.
17:20Where is it?
17:21Right here.
17:22I'm feeling, like, already a little discouraged further behind than we should have been.
17:27And I know Kenny knows it.
17:34All right, design teams, I just want you to know that you have two hours to send your models
17:39to the Avon Beauty Lab and to our hair studio.
17:42It's the JCPenney challenge, so take the JCPenney accessory wall and have a blast.
17:48Okay.
17:49And remember, Rowenta has supplied you with irons and steamers.
17:53Okay?
17:54Thank you, everyone.
17:54Thanks, sir.
17:55Head back to the Brother Sewing and Embroidery Studio.
17:58Bye.
18:04I really feel like if this is an individual challenge, I could have just truly did me.
18:09But in a team and having to compromise, it's just irritating.
18:13Does that look okay to you, Kenya?
18:16No?
18:17Hate it.
18:24I don't love the tank.
18:25I just am concerned about too much cleavage.
18:27I mean, it's JCPenney.
18:29It ain't church.
18:30Let's look at it once she's, like, really dressed and then decide if it's not scandalous.
18:38Good morning.
18:39Hey.
18:39How are you?
18:41Good.
18:45In love.
18:47I'm really, like, hype about this.
18:49Yeah, I like that.
18:50I'm, like, I'm feeling this.
18:51Like, oh, my gosh.
18:53Like, yes.
18:59How are you?
19:00Good.
19:00Good to see you.
19:01Beautiful.
19:01I want to do something very casual.
19:03And we can use the same one for the cheeks a little bit.
19:07Oh, beautiful.
19:08We're doing a fall-inspired look.
19:10I want a dusty brown lid, a berry-colored lip, more toward red than purple.
19:17Lovely.
19:17Oh, good.
19:18How you doing?
19:19How are you?
19:19Good.
19:20Maybe a little blue on the top.
19:21This is a good blue.
19:22That's good.
19:23Good.
19:25Spiced apricot lips.
19:28Perfect.
19:36That's a little boobicious.
19:38Where's Kenya?
19:39Kenya.
19:40Huh?
19:41Neckline?
19:42I don't mind it.
19:43Good job.
19:45Good .
19:47I'm glad this is over, because I thought you was going to, like, strangle me.
19:50No strangling.
19:52Stay partners, okay?
19:52Stay partners, okay?
19:53Mm-hmm.
19:53Okay, boo.
19:54Okay, boo.
19:55You go up, I go down.
19:57I'm really excited, because this is definitely something I would wear off the runway.
20:00I love everything about it.
20:02It screams Brandon, but it has a lot of Christina built into it, and I like that.
20:06We got it!
20:07Hey!
20:07Hey!
20:08Hey!
20:08Hey!
20:08Hey!
20:08Hey!
20:08Hey!
20:09Hey!
20:09Hey!
20:12Hey!
20:13Hey!
20:16Hey!
20:23Hello.
20:23Hello.
20:24Slow but sexy, like, I'm coming.
20:28Hey, you are slow.
20:28I'm coming to see you.
20:29Yeah!
20:29I'm amazed that Sean and Colleen, these beautiful early 20-year-old models, have held
20:35their tongue so well, because they look like 50-year-old secretaries, in leisure suits.
20:41Fantastic!
20:43You all right!
20:44I do think the fit is very good, but I feel a little bit like a flight attendant.
20:49You look hot.
20:51I feel like everyone's chilling, and I, like, need to dress her.
20:53What is going on?
20:54Why am I sweating right now, and why is everyone just, like, chilling?
20:58There is no possible way that your work is perfect, beautiful, and done in that amount of time.
21:03I will not stop working until they tell me I can't.
21:05More.
21:07There we go.
21:07We got it.
21:08We got it.
21:08You look fabulous, mamita.
21:11This is the first time I'm showing my legs to this extent.
21:14I have a little slit, so I feel really pretty.
21:18Design teams and models, let's head down to the runway, everyone.
21:21All right.
21:22Follow me.
21:22Claire.
21:23Claire.
21:23Yep.
21:24We got to go.
21:25This challenge marks the first time that I'm feeling really good going into the runway,
21:29but I'm so concerned about being in the bottom so many times.
21:33I really just want to have the win be the cherry on top.
21:40Coming up on Project Runway, I love this.
21:42There's cheekiness in these looks.
21:45And definitely Penny is ready.
21:46Oh, my gosh.
21:47What is this?
21:48I would feel sad for people to walk around looking like that.
21:52The world doesn't need this.
21:58Hello.
21:59Hello.
22:00Hello.
22:00Welcome to the runway.
22:02As you know, in fashion, one day you're in, and the next day, you're out.
22:05For this challenge, you worked in teams of two, and you are asked to create women's wear
22:11inspired by men's wear.
22:13Well, there's a big prize today.
22:16The winning look will be produced and sold at selected JCPenney stores and on jcpenney.com
22:23tonight, right after the show.
22:26Isn't that exciting?
22:27Yeah.
22:28I love it when it becomes real.
22:30There will be a winning team and a losing team, and one member from the losing team will
22:35be out.
22:36Kentar, you won the last challenge.
22:38That means you have immunity and cannot be eliminated today.
22:41All right.
22:41Let's say hello to our judges.
22:43First, we have creative director for Brooks Brothers Women and fashion designer, Zach Posen.
22:48Hello.
22:48Hello, designers.
22:50Creative director for Marie Claire Magazine, Nina Garcia.
22:52Hi, Nina.
22:53Hello.
22:54And star of the hit series, Billions, Asia, Kate Dillon.
22:58Welcome.
22:59Hi, designers.
23:01Also, we have Tim Gunn here for the runway show, and as you know, he is your mentor and
23:04will not be judging your looks.
23:06That said, he will have the Tim Gunn safe.
23:08If at some point during the competition, he disagrees with the judges, then he can bring
23:13that eliminated designer back to the competition.
23:16We have an anonymous runway show.
23:17That means we, the judges, do not know which designer created which look.
23:21All right, let's start the show.
23:26All right, here we go.
23:34Yes, girl.
23:37It's exactly the way I wanted it to look, so I'm really happy about that.
23:41She feels expensive.
23:43I know.
23:43I'm really happy with the outcome.
23:48Seeing Michael's model just kind of right behind her, it's really cohesive.
23:54I'm just very pleased and happy to see that Jasmine actually looks so hot, and I think the
24:00fact that I gave such a high slit on such an easy dress definitely gave it a little bit
24:05of pump.
24:14Me and Amy decided to create two looks that we own equally.
24:19It looks good.
24:20I think it's made well.
24:21I like it, but don't love it.
24:24I feel okay.
24:26We tried to approach the challenge from the viewpoint of a JCPenney's customer that would
24:32find these garments approachable, that would find them versatile and attractive.
24:42Ooh, I love this one.
24:47It looks great.
24:49Our look is very, very cohesive.
24:51One is, like, more feminine, one is, like, more masculine.
24:57Me and Quintaro, we look at each other.
24:59We both know it's the most cohesive.
25:02Janine and Christine felt so comfortable.
25:04It was right up their alley, and we definitely think we have this in the bag.
25:22I love that we made outfits that look nothing like anyone else's on the runway.
25:29I chose to make separates that I think are really interesting and stand-alone by themselves,
25:34so I'm thrilled with how things turned out.
25:41Lyriss is working this.
25:43She has a pop of color.
25:45The dress contours to her shape.
25:47I am proud that we have accomplished what we set out to accomplish.
26:03When my look comes down the runway, I'm excited about the colors and how the dress is bouncing
26:08on Lina, and I'm feeling pretty good and pretty confident that we got this.
26:19Misha is just effortless.
26:21It's all about the dress.
26:22Nothing is distracting.
26:24You can kind of see a little bit of leg on the right.
26:27I think she looks elegant.
26:28I think it's interesting from every angle.
26:30I could not be more proud of me and Bachemi pulling through and making something really amazing.
26:41We have just learned which designers created which looks.
26:44Today there will be a winning team and a losing team.
26:47One member from the winning team will be the winner, and one member from the losing team will be out.
26:58Today there will be a winning team and a losing team.
27:00Ayana and Michael, please step forward.
27:03Congratulations.
27:04Your scores have qualified you to move on to the next round.
27:07You can leave the runway.
27:12Brandon and Contaro, Margarita and Buttony, your teams have the highest scores.
27:20Congratulations.
27:22Sean, Claire, Amy and Kenya, your teams have the lowest scores.
27:28We're going to talk to the teams with the higher scores first, and then I'm going to bring you back
27:33onto the runway.
27:34Okay, now you can leave the runway.
27:43Let's bring out your models.
27:49Brandon and Contaro, tell us about your looks and who did what?
27:53Well, we both pretty much stick to our look head to toe.
27:57Mine being Christina, his being the other.
27:59I'm in love with both of these looks.
28:01I love what you did with the fabric.
28:03Both of you did a fantastic job.
28:07This was by far the most cohesive on the runway today, and definitely Penny is ready.
28:13Yay.
28:13It looks like one cohesive collection.
28:16There's cheekiness in these looks, which I love.
28:19You know, that little hint at menswear.
28:21It's sporty.
28:21It's fun.
28:22It's cool.
28:23This is really unbelievable.
28:25If you were the winning team, which one of you would be the winner?
28:28We knew you guys are going to ask about it.
28:32How about this?
28:33Which pieces here are going to be the most successful at retail at JCPenney?
28:38I think this, the top, is kind of for everybody.
28:42What did you say?
28:45She's leaving it up to us.
28:46That's fine.
28:47Yeah.
28:47That's fine?
28:48Okay.
28:49All right.
28:50Thank you, Brandon.
28:50Thank you, Kentaro.
28:53Bettany, Margarita, tell us about your looks and who did what.
28:56We were inspired by the men's suits.
28:59I created the burgundy velvet dress and Margarita created the gingham.
29:03My shirt dress is just kind of a play on a men's shirt, but I think it looks really nice.
29:08I love both looks, too.
29:10I'm personally a huge fan of yours, Margarita.
29:13Thank you so much.
29:13Like that is what I would be running to JCPenney's to get.
29:16Because it's sexy, the fit is so nice, but I can also see a lot of girls wanting yours,
29:21Bettany.
29:21I really do.
29:22And again, this is a challenge that goes into the real world and being really fashionable.
29:27Both of you nailed that.
29:29I am in love, Margarita, with your dress.
29:32Thank you so much.
29:34Because it's just a little bit different.
29:36It has this asymmetry.
29:37Very now.
29:39Very good.
29:40I love these two looks together.
29:42So polished.
29:43So sophisticated.
29:45I am in love with the shirt dress.
29:48It's a very simple idea, but very well executed.
29:51I'm in love with that shirt dress.
29:53I really am.
29:53It's beautiful.
29:54Thank you very much.
29:55Bettany, Margarita, if you were the winning team, which one of you should win?
29:59It was a collaborative effort.
30:01Which one would you wear?
30:02I made the shirt dress.
30:04Yes, I love it.
30:05And Bettany loves the coat dress.
30:08Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
30:10Now we're going to talk to the teams with the lowest scores.
30:13And then we're going to have a closer look at your designs.
30:16Now you can leave the runway.
30:18Thank you, guys.
30:24Sean, Claire, tell us about your looks and who did what.
30:27We originally were inspired by the men's t-shirt, the trouser, and the hoodie, and tried to do
30:33our own little riff on that.
30:35I personally find the first dress trashy.
30:39This t-shirt is just bad design.
30:42And then the jeans, I'm not crazy about the dumpy butt.
30:47This was the opportunity to show us what this magic sisterhood could build.
30:53I know.
30:55And I'm, quite frankly, big time disappointed.
30:58The world doesn't need this.
31:00A lot of it feels like an afterthought.
31:03I'm just confused.
31:04We try to direct our design more toward a younger client.
31:09You designing for the contemporary market is not an excuse to give us boring things.
31:14The pants are kind of cool.
31:17The t-shirt is okay.
31:18The sleeves and the waist, I don't understand.
31:21Why do we need these clothes?
31:24Indeed.
31:24Well, the clients of JCPenney look at influencers and they're inspired by what they wear.
31:31I don't believe you have a brand.
31:33I understand.
31:34And I want to.
31:35When I look at what you created here, I would feel sad for people to walk around on the street
31:40looking like that.
31:42Claire, Sean, if you were the losing team, which one of you should be out?
31:45I'm saying me.
31:47Claire has more of the technical prowess.
31:50Because of that, she should stay.
31:52Claire, what do you think?
31:53I'm going to leave it up to you.
31:55But I'm going to say I'll take it.
32:02Amy, Kenya, tell us about your looks and who did what?
32:05We did more of a collaborative effort also.
32:08We thought about menswear.
32:09I thought more of like a sailor look.
32:12Buttons and denim and...
32:14Kenya, I think what you presented today is just too boring.
32:19We've been seeing these kind of clothes for so many years.
32:23There's nothing new.
32:24There's nothing special about it.
32:25And then I see this baby blue, silly-looking suit.
32:29It is not modern.
32:30It's not cool.
32:32Who is buying that?
32:33I don't understand it.
32:34These looks feel like flight attendant uniform rejections from the 70s.
32:40Oh, my gosh.
32:41Because they're so not modern.
32:43I have to give you merit for construction of this blue suit.
32:48Taste-wise, it is from another planet.
32:50Yeah.
32:51It is wackadoodle.
32:52And then it's next to this snooze fest.
32:55It's just something we've seen over and over again.
32:58I need more.
32:59Even the way you've styled these girls, they look old.
33:03We go to the blue outfit.
33:05Why is she wearing the costume?
33:07What is this?
33:08When I was looking at the light blue, I kept going back to like 1980 with it.
33:12I really relied on talking to Kenya and trying to find what's a cohesive thing we can do in this
33:16amount of time.
33:17And in terms of Kenya, Kenya, you've given us amazing blouses.
33:21And then you give me this nun.
33:23She looks like she's going to church.
33:25I think we get that.
33:26Kenya, Amy, if you were the losing team, which one of you should be out?
33:31I would go before I would say that she should.
33:34Thanks.
33:35Kenya, what about you?
33:36I deserve to be here.
33:38So you choose Amy?
33:39If that's what that sounds like.
33:41But I have a rightful position here.
33:43Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
33:45We're going to take a closer look at your designs.
33:48Have a chat.
33:49And then I'll call you back onto the runway.
33:51Now you can leave the runway.
34:00The winner of Project Runway will receive the opportunity to collaborate with JCPenney on a limited edition capsule collection as
34:06part of the Project Runway line sold at select JCPenney stores and online.
34:11A selection of brothers sewing and embroidery machines with a retail value of $40,000.
34:16Makeup and beauty products for a year, courtesy of Avon.
34:20The new 2018 Lexus NX coming this fall with advanced innovation and safety system standard.
34:26From the Pilot Friction Erasable Pen, the official pen of Project Runway, a lifetime supply of pens in an all
34:32-expense-paid luxury trip to Japan, including a five-star stay near Japan's fashion center.
34:37$100,000 to launch their line.
34:39And the winning designer and model will receive a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine.
34:44Hi, Tim.
34:45Hi.
34:47Hello, ladies.
34:48Yes, yes, yes, and yes.
34:51Shall we begin with Janine and Christina?
34:54Yeah.
34:54Wearing Team Kentaro and Brandon.
34:57Wow.
34:58This was not easy fabric for them to deal with.
35:00None of the fabrics were easy.
35:02They really made the most out of it.
35:04What I love is that they're completely interchangeable.
35:07I love a cropped hoodie, too.
35:09There was a real thought process to putting together this collection.
35:13These pieces are a dream.
35:16Lena is wearing botany, and Misha is wearing margarita.
35:21Wow.
35:21I am in love with the dress.
35:24It's just so charming.
35:27I would buy that.
35:28I do wonder about it being reproducible for people of many sizes.
35:32I'm not as crazy about this out of the two.
35:35But together, the story makes sense.
35:37They're two sophisticated fun girls.
35:42Colleen is wearing Amy's look, and Sean is wearing Kenya's.
35:47What happened?
35:48She wanted to give it a little edge.
35:50It's well tailored.
35:51But the design.
35:52The design is just beyond.
35:53And then this.
35:54This is a nun.
35:56Pretty sexy nun.
35:57A South American nun.
35:59They look old.
36:00They aged you by 20 years.
36:05Sunita and Lyrus were in team Claire and Sean.
36:10They're going to a silly party together.
36:12In case we need an extra sleeve, they're right here.
36:16There's a real taste issue here.
36:17Yeah, that is just not cool.
36:19This should have been like an easy thing for them to do.
36:23This is about ideas, and I can't tell who's are who's.
36:27I'm very confused about who possesses which set of skills.
36:31The result together is not that interesting.
36:38Well, I don't think we have another choice here.
36:41This is what we have to do.
36:44So we made our decision.
36:49Let's bring them back out.
36:53Designers, the eight of you have the highest and the lowest scores.
36:58One member from the winning team will be the winner of this challenge.
37:02And one member from the losing team will be out.
37:07Batani and Margarita, you are the winning team.
37:16And Margarita, you are the winner of this challenge.
37:19Congratulations!
37:20Thank you so much.
37:24Look at you.
37:25We almost lost you last week, and here you are the winner this week.
37:29Your look will be reproduced and sold at select JCPenney stores and online.
37:35Tonight, actually.
37:36How cool.
37:38So cool.
37:39You're both in.
37:39You can leave the runway.
37:41Thank you so much.
37:42It's Margarita time.
37:43I won.
37:44I'm just like ecstatic.
37:46Finally, I could prove to these people that I deserve to be here.
37:50I'm just so thankful again that they gave me a chance to show them that I can actually make good
37:55looking.
38:01Oh my gosh, that's incredible.
38:07You're getting reproduced.
38:09Like, what the heck?
38:10Amazing.
38:14Brandon and Cantaro, great job.
38:16You're both in.
38:17You can leave the runway.
38:27Claire and Sean, you are the losing team.
38:36Kenya, Amy, you're both in.
38:38You can leave the runway.
38:44Claire, Sean, one of you will be out.
38:55But not yet.
38:56Oh.
38:58We are in a really tough position.
39:02We truly don't know who is more responsible for what luck and who did what.
39:07Eliminating a designer on Project Runway is something that we take very, very seriously.
39:12And right now, we feel like we don't have enough information to make that decision.
39:18We need to see what you can do individually.
39:21Okay.
39:22You will be going head-to-head in a one-hour challenge that starts right now.
39:32You have one hour to create a new look.
39:37And there's fabric waiting for you in the workroom.
39:41Same rules, same time, same fabric.
39:44I shouldn't really have to say this, but you cannot help one another.
39:48Me too.
39:49We need to see what you can do individually.
39:51Mm-hmm.
39:52I'm now in a position where my success will result in my sister's failure.
39:58It is a torturesome feeling.
40:01So head up to the workroom and get to work.
40:03See you back here in one hour.
40:05Okay.
40:07It's frustrating, but it has to be us against one another.
40:12I'm worried it's my time to go.
