00:00in business times are tough investment hard to come by I am a winner I'm a fighter I don't give
00:13up easy I've got what it takes to go the distance in business in order to be the best you've got to
00:17beat the best when it comes to business I can be like an animal and I will literally roll my way
00:23to the top determined to win the backing they need 16 ambitious applicants they call me the
00:32master puppeteer because I have a habit of pulling people's strings and get them to do what I want I
00:37am control freak I would call myself the blonde assassin because I let people underestimate me
00:44just so I can blow them out of the water to get the funding thereafter they face the fight of a
00:51lifetime when it comes to business I'm like a shark I'm right at the top of the food chain I'm
00:58somebody who take whatever I want whenever I want it I truly am the reflection of perfection on offer
01:0640 years experience and a quarter of a million pounds I've got a product for Lord sugar that
01:13we can take international I believe it's going to be huge and I mean business I run a company that
01:19turns over 3.5 million pounds already but I'm not ready to stop there and I firmly believe right
01:24now that I will be Lord sugar's business partner putting his money on the line the boss this is not
01:34about a job anymore I'm the investor and you are gonna make me some money from market stall to market
01:43leader Lord sugar is a global success story willing to invest when others won't now he's on the hunt
01:51for a new business partner this is about me investing 250,000 pounds and I'm sitting here thinking which one
02:00of you has got the ability to run a business in which I'm gonna invest it it'll be their plan all we need
02:08to do is impress them with the product and the pitch you've ignored me and said this is the product get
02:14behind guys guys guys guys guys guys his money I put you into a little piddly little business and
02:19you've made a complete mess of the figures but to get it a punishing selection process oh my god
02:29basic business principles went right down the drain on this thing 16 potential business partners these
02:36retailers are huge I'm liking that mate that's good that is good that's clever 12 tough weeks it's the
02:45same thing happening again we have an opinion and you just don't like it it was completely out of control
02:50you didn't even know what was going on one life-changing opportunity to me this is not a game it's into

04:10welcome into this boardroom now a lot of people ask me what would I be doing at your age
04:21where would I be I'll tell you where I'd be I'd be that side of the table this is a great
04:28opportunity for you this is not about a job anymore and just to be perfectly clear about this
04:35I'm not looking for a friend if I want a friend I'll get a dog I'm looking for a partner the marks to
04:43my Spencer the Lennon to my McCartney this is about me investing 250,000 pounds into a business with one
04:52one of you and I'm expecting you as the so-called entrepreneurs to make the money for me so in a way
05:00you're lucky you're lucky I'm not over that side of the table because I'll tell you what I'd win
05:06now I've had a look at some of your business ideas and so here's the point business ideas that I'm not
05:16interested in would have been thrown out a long time ago you're here because I'm interested you claim
05:22to be entrepreneurs many of you are in business already but I need you to stand up and show me what
05:30you lot are made of so I think we'll get down to business now so let me tell you about the first
05:43task it is like starting from a blank sheet of paper I want you to start your own print business I'm gonna
05:55ask you to go out and buy it blank material could be t-shirts it could be mugs it could be mouse mats
06:01and then you're gonna have to brand up those items and sell them to the public the team that has made
06:10the biggest amount of profit wins and the team that hasn't will lose and in that team one of you will be
06:16fired I will be starting this off with girls versus boys Nick will be following the girls Karen will be
06:27following the boys don't underestimate them as ever they are my eyes and ears there's not much that they
06:34will miss now some of you may come here with preconceived plans of how you're going to play this
06:41thing out let me give you a warning don't try and hide because you know we're not playing where's Wally
06:50here I'm not looking for Lord Lucan I'm looking for somebody who's gonna put themselves forward and
06:56show me that they have got the aggression the mouse and the business acumen to be my partner is everything
07:05clear you know you're sweating over there you're not nervous sure yeah right I'll see you back in the
07:17boardroom here in a couple of days time today teams must print onto products tomorrow sell them on the streets
07:31boys on some hi I am real hi I'm James nice to meet you thank Katie that was mad in the boardroom
07:39wasn't it that so you're such an experience but before battle begins time to big up their backgrounds
07:45I want to find one company I'm in a risk management for financial firm you could be the figure girl I got
07:59myself from a communist block of flats in Bulgaria to the top of a skyscraper at the heart of the
08:04financial city of London I'm shrewd adaptable and have that raw business potential I founded and run
08:12two businesses so coffee business and a technology business and yeah sale face is what I do enthusiasm
08:19is a huge asset of mine and I believe it's caught and not taught and I do believe business is actually
08:24very very simple and it is made complicated by idiots I manage hubs and restaurants done that
08:31since I was like 15 so I'm a great business woman you'll never find anyone like me think of a bit
08:37like the Marmite you're gonna love me or you're gonna hate me you know it's gonna be one of the two
08:40how about you Ricky I work in the recruitment industry so I'm a recruitment manager for the
08:44scientific sectors by day I'm a business superstar and by night I'm also a professional wrestler so what I'm in
08:51a group with men I am the alpha male of that group obviously I think Lord surely saw the potential in
08:57me just sat opposite the desk he felt he felt that charisma coming from me waiting in London's
09:05Bayswater a four-story townhouse for the next 12 weeks it'll be office and home
09:14it's never ending initially big enough to fit all our egos in it that's for sure
09:34before they begin both teams need names
09:40I was thinking Phoenix and obviously if we have some troubles the next few weeks we have to rise
09:46from from the ashes rise from the flames so that would be my choice I think Phoenix is a great name
09:50Phoenix Phoenix it is guys team Phoenix hey so it came to me a bit random in my dream last night
10:00and sterling I think it's symbolizing strong we're making money that's what it's about it's just a
10:12strong word isn't it next job pick leaders is there anyone that wants to be the project manager
10:24anyone screaming out I don't want to be project manager because I'd be best used selling on the
10:34style that's where I'll shine guys this is shocking I know typically we've got we're going in to win
10:40in terms of going in to win I think we could win the task guys so I mean is anybody at this stage
10:43willing to put themselves forward I'll put myself forward if nobody wants to do it I didn't I don't
10:50really want to do the first week first week's task but I will do it congratulations 100% support
11:00from the rest of the team okay running the boys technology entrepreneur Nick my mind does work
11:06a bit like a computer I rank almost everything in my life bit like an Excel spreadsheet I think
11:11business is all about logic and I can think of solutions to complex problems quicker than other
11:16people can for the girls a volunteer I would like to put myself up as project manager Gabrielle I'm an
11:26architect and I also literally just opened up my new print and design store anybody else that has
11:35anything to compete with that I'm happy I'm not the usual kind of candidate I'm kind of a bit quirky and
11:45being an architect I'm very creative I love to look at things differently and use my creativity to make
11:53them a success okay so let's go both teams have catalogues of unbranded products then in here
12:00we've got phone covers fridge magnets no little t-shirts yeah yeah the t-shirts in number one I think a bag
12:09of a nice design I think a bag to shop I think the teddy is a good idea no actually I quite like the
12:14idea of a teddy bear small bears or big small bears and small bears big bears are gonna stand out more
12:18I think you go for a smaller bears just not with a lot of this yeah yeah that's more nice from I'm
12:23making decision big bears we need to work out the cost price of the material then how much it costs to
12:28print it and then how much reckon can sell it for us work at margin to add value all the products need
12:33printable designs we haven't rediscussed what the design will be though have we guys the design come
12:38second just the products at the moment I think the design and the brands is all quite important so
12:43maybe it could be just something different something a bit you know a bit zany a bit funky first of all
12:49just work out the margin it's about the margin you want to really stand out you want to be like this
12:55is the t-shirt for you so you've done a second how much is this gonna cost us at the end of the day
13:00it's about making the margin midday both teams split half to buy at a warehouse and half to a print
13:18studio for the screen printing the t-shirt we're looking at maybe three animals a monkey a lion and
13:26penguin targeting families the girls design team has an idea for kids we're looking quite obvious cartoon
13:33style just like that face over there sketching the designs business development manager Jade I would
13:46describe myself really as a salesperson but I have a real creative edge the screen prints are
13:56actually gonna be all of the joins I drew I think it looks good the team thinks it looks nice it's our
14:00kind of little animal family I'd say it looks like it's drawn by kids for kids North London a warehouse
14:15packed with unbranded products don't spend more than 200 pounds on bags yet no problem at all
14:24the boys shopping for blank items on a tight budget I can give you a hundred bags yeah 400 pounds that's
14:32the best second that's fine all right next the girls on the lookout for kids products you have a t-shirt
14:43a baby grove and bibs but with no numbers to go on how many and I was thinking if you do 90 t-shirts
14:53that's right and it's going to be 30 bibs to look Gabrielle is the team leader so I think she needs to be in on the
15:00decision hi unsure exactly what do you want to do and 30 bibs we're literally with a designer right now
15:13so what would you like us to do it's really really important because otherwise we're going to be over
15:19budget as soon as I find out I'm bringing you straight back is that fine we're just going to
15:25have to make a decision then yeah it's fine I'm agreeing with that 280 pounds please bought blank for
15:36printing toddler t-shirts bags and bibs I think Gabrielle is just losing control there's a lot of things that
15:44have been brushed over because she's a creative person there's an architect she can draw that's
15:49it she can draw buildings 4 p.m. at the boys design studio 15 at 50p some testing figures are still the
16:02focus hello guys hello guys what does the logo say is it a name or is it a designer pack what is it
16:09we haven't come up the idea we're still trying to get those numbers together they haven't done it
16:14they've been there all day and they've got a time constraint today as well they've been there all
16:17day with the clock ticking right guys we got half an hour we to do is really quickly I think and
16:24tourists the target they wheel out the old favorites might be our boss or a taxi what I would do is very
16:32simply this is a and then the picture of what London bus so that is this I this is a the boys
16:41have thought about the cost of the printing plus the margin and they've kept the design really simple
16:46but what's different about this nothing is different about it guys what about that phone
16:50box or not even no text just a phone box the phone box the red London bus come on it's got to
16:58be more imagination involved in this process the buying boys are back we've gone for a Union Jack
17:09on the t-shirt for the teddy and on the banks we've gone for a big London bus with a logo yeah so we
17:15really thought out of the box yeah both teams have till midnight to print their products if we get all
17:23the teddies we've got a lot of teddies to do a man's job this one in there once designs are transferred to
17:33screens printing can start yeah I'm happy that van goff eat your heart out let's do it that's what I say
17:42oh isn't that pleasure 39 to go Gabrielle's girls get cracking on a range of kids clothes bags and jigsaws
18:03oh my god yeah so it's literally just like that Gabrielle put herself up as project manager
18:10because she's in the print business and now her expertise is beginning to show but the one
18:18that's disappointing me is Katie she's keeping very quiet ladies everyone working so she'd better
18:25start getting involved or they'll sense weakness and turn on her where is she Katie Katie I'm just
18:34getting really annoyed because we are doing everything if you're waiting can you start packing
18:42I'm not waiting and putting this stuff in it's just it takes as long as it takes as products pile up
18:50still no plan how to claw back profits 40 babes 0.00 and this is just not the best time to be doing
18:59anybody in business knows that your margin and your pricing is key if we lose for the sake of say
19:0710 pounds it's down to her plus the 50 pounds you sure he added in that 50 pounds right okay we need
19:15to work out what we're going to charge people the boys studio freshly printed patriotic bears lovely looking
19:26good yeah I like it yeah and bags waiting for red buses ruined it I can't work out what we're doing
19:37wrong not enough paint that's on
19:46put it in so it's a gullible tourist yeah
19:51ah the printing on the bags is being a little more difficult we first
19:56envisaged because it's not a machine we are doing it by hand so some of the quality is different
20:00for each one so at the moment that's a little bit of concern because are we going to be able to sell
20:06them at full price oh man that's knackered there don't quite waste it much I'll print on it
20:10what can we do with that
20:14midnight
20:25if it was me heading up the graphics design I think I would have done a bit more this is a bus
20:32I don't think it's terrible but it's done now
20:35today teams must sell their printed products to the public there come the dream team setting up
20:51a stall on London's South Bank the boys along the back you've got 10 11 so that one's wrong
20:57next a pep talk from project manager Nick right try and hit 325 pounds each of sales today we're gonna
21:16pick the most profit if we sell the teddies at 15 pounds that's where the real massive margins gonna be guys just before we move on this is purely for my
21:23experience on some base heavily in sales myself chipping in sales manager Stephen
21:27last I asked 20 of my friends right now right now would they buy a bear for 15 pounds
21:33I'm struggling to pick any of them that bear with the white 50 but that's the situation so I'm saying right now I
21:38would have the group come to a lower price than that right now if I was to give my input straightaway
21:43Stephen stood right next to the team leader he took control of the meeting I think if I was project manager
21:48I wouldn't have had that I think Nick was doing a grand job why am Stephen stepped up I don't know in terms of the
21:53starting point we're agreed on 12 pound yeah no I've made a decision for now but we're sticking with the price we originally said yeah
21:5915 pounds for that briefing over half the boys hit the streets guys the bottom line is now we've got to shift this
22:08of course yeah Greenwich market
22:13fixed pitch for the girls boutique baby stall
22:16to push up prices the girls plan to print children's names on t-shirts
22:26these are literally all the books that you're taking
22:30and take half their stock to London Zoo
22:33what we're thinking really quickly is let's put dear at the zoo on them what do you think of that
22:38I think I loved my dear should the zoo will really sell
22:41love that idea yeah let's not waste time because it's quite far away
22:45the later we take the the more traffic we're going to encounter so let's just
22:51like I just need to see how we go and we can decide to leave if it's taking too long
22:56it's pissing me off why are the other team still here they should be gone
23:01you are wasting time I know how to do this that's mission I love London Zoo there that was
23:12Gabriel's decision you should go you're wasting time that's not the point 10 50 a.m finally it's off
23:21to the zoo where we were slowed down is that people insisted on staying and waiting for the press to
23:26personalize some t-shirts before we go to the zoo no no no no no no we were giving it 20 minutes
23:31because it was going to give us that extra margin
23:37St Pancras International
23:47look at the little teddies touting teddy bears to tourists half the boys
23:52can I show you this teddy bear that we're selling today by any chance and he's a lovely bear have you feel it
23:56yeah she's there 15 pounds but I don't the ponds would you like to take Jack home can you see Jack in Paris on the Champs Elysees
24:03I don't think so
24:05okay the issue we've got is the bears aren't selling are they I'm just going to question the cost price on these bears still
24:09I'm going to make a decision just give me a yes or a no we are going to drop the price of the bear
24:14are you happy to take responsibility for that if you are go ahead yeah let's not worry about responsibility let's just get on with selling these products
24:18yeah try and get a higher price but okay
24:25the idea of selling a teddy bear for 15 pounds is uh something that the general public and the tourists haven't taken to at all
24:30and Nick's naturally trying to cover himself a bit I guess but that doesn't interest me I'm just interested in winning this task
24:35lunchtime
24:37at the girls stall the kiddie clothes are selling
24:44let me just get you some change
24:46thank you
24:47lovely ladies come over I love you thank you
24:52would you like to see your pinball please
24:55yeah
24:56you're lovely
24:58Jade who studied graphics at college came up with some very charming free sort of illustrations of a lion a tiger
25:06and in between them very worried looking penguin and I think actually her design is smashing
25:11and it's not me hello you like some the mums like them why because they're buying
25:17this one that's no problem
25:21products with a personal touch are proving popular
25:26for personalization we add an extra five pounds
25:29could we have will Ed Kath
25:32yes
25:33lovely
25:34there you go look at that isn't that cute
25:36that suits your eyes
25:39I hope you enjoy that Ruby
25:42how far would you say we're off now
25:47gridlocked
25:50the rest of the girls
25:52I'm just checking how you guys are doing
25:55we've been stuck in traffic this whole time
25:57all right so you've literally just got to the zoo now
26:00we're still driving we're going now
26:02we're still driving we're still in the car
26:04all right so can I just clarify you've not actually reached the zoo yet
26:09okay
26:14at last London zoo
26:22with half the day gone the girls prowl for parents with prams
26:27so we have to just take it in turns okay
26:29I'll handle this one
26:31hello how's your day going
26:34can I interest you in some products that we made our own design and we're selling them today
26:40there you go
26:41leading the hunt risk analyst Billy Anna
26:44hello
26:45could I interest you in our organic cotton hand-pressed t-shirts
26:49are we not taking this in turns
26:51just six pounds your favorite animals
26:54I keep spotting a family and then she runs up and does it so
26:57no that's not fair like we're taking it in turns
26:59we've got to take it in turns
27:00she needs to cop on to herself
27:01it's the funky zoo crew
27:03she's talking to kids that have money on them
27:05it's wasting our time
27:06we can only go one at a time
27:07you just had your sales so you need to give the next person a chance
27:10that was an amazing opportunity
27:12no it wasn't good
27:13because kids don't have money on them
27:15we decided we would take turns to use everybody's strengths in sales
27:19but Billy Anna is definitely sort of diving in there
27:22and taking over other people's sales
27:24good afternoon madam
27:25how's your day going

31:01girls i really don't appreciate that this is not a good idea to come in and barricade something
31:09you put it under tremendous pressure okay well look i i genuinely apologize can i just offer you my
31:14sincere apologies sorry that we were too close you realize the last thing that you said okay we're
31:19wasting time on to the next one i didn't see it one of you did 5 p.m lord sugar's first business test
31:28is over did you sell everything no no the team have tried as hard as we have and it's sold as hard
31:35as we have we want this but for the boys an unhappy customer yeah basically these have marks on um each
31:45one there's 10 they all have imperfections okay so you've got stains here stains here you've got ones
31:49that are really really faded or over printed and missed so it's so unprofessional no i do apologize i can
31:55assure you it's not our intention to sell you any seconds or return merchandise they've sold some
32:01of their product that quite frankly deserves to be nowhere other than the bin they think they can get
32:05away with it but they haven't got away with it and now they're in the embarrassing situation of having
32:10to refund a customer's money and go away with their tail between their legs which quite frankly
32:16that's where it deserves to be
32:36so
32:46so
33:06you can go through to the boardroom now
33:16so
33:37good morning
33:38the idea behind most businesses is very simple and you couldn't get nothing simpler than
33:49this i told you to go and buy blank items and then you added some value to it and hopefully
33:56you made a profit yeah we'll start with the uh gentlemen's team um you came up with the name phoenix i
34:04understand yeah whose idea was that was my ideal or sugar based upon the fact i'm sure in life and
34:09as in business you're going to face some adversity along the way and if that situation arises we'll
34:12we'll be rising from the ashes so to speak okay it's not bad name i suppose so project leader myself
34:20anybody else put themselves forward other than you no we had a bit of an embarrassing moment where none
34:24of us put us off forward um so i'm not sure how long it lasted for but i just had to put myself
34:29forward because we needed a project manager i read in the cvs as are you said you'll you'll be project
34:33manager of all the tasks and steven says i put myself forward and they all went stum when it when
34:39it came to it you did it is that right that's right i'm happy to project manage any task i think
34:44before you've got the words finished i'll do it if no one else will everyone had jumped up and
34:48congratulated you nick right so anyway bearing in mind he stuck himself in the deep end here how
34:55how was he as a team leader i've got a lot of respect for nick for stepping forward his team
34:58leader okay so what were your products have you got them over here called jack jack
35:06tell them about that's jack i see doesn't look that much thought has gone into the design
35:12here does it that's it the bus is it that is it yeah you spent a lot of time talking about
35:18profit costs margin and the design very much was the second focus i am embarrassed about the design
35:26the design team wasn't too heavily taxed let's put it that way you spent all your time talking about
35:31margins all day long instead of design what what was your margin philosophy um we're selling him for
35:3815 pounds the bag what that for 15 pounds it was we were in bond street was you by any chance in
35:43bond street now we dropped it very quickly to 10. that's very good margin but the woman who you sold
35:48some bags to rejected the whole lot in the end there was there was an issue with that of course you
35:54can have the greatest margin in the world but if the end punter doesn't want to buy your product
35:59meaningless isn't it yeah yeah let's move over to the uh ladies team i understand that you've got
36:06yourself a team name called sterling yes that's correct how'd that come about um i actually dreamt it
36:12the night before my friend gave me the idea in a dream all right sounds very professional
36:20sterling then sterling it is and your team leader that was myself right gabrielle i saw on your cv that
36:28you're going to open a print uh firm afterwards it's a really good experience anybody else put themselves
36:34forward to be the team leader when somebody's got that expertise why wouldn't we let her take the lead
36:41i preach that all the time the person who is expert in the particular task should put themselves
36:47forward fair enough okay good team leader or not i think she was probably a little bit flustered by the
36:52fact she had lots of very strong women underneath her which i would have thought anyone would be even one
36:59of the guys okay so these are the designs yeah yeah and who did the design who did these uh things it
37:07was jade what is it your own graphics design yeah we didn't want that's very good it's very good
37:13i hand drew it and then we just scanned into the computer really that's good you could have that one
37:19on us so these were your designs how'd you get on with the selling then everybody sold what i delegated
37:26to everyone was actually to sell um jane had a bigger job than that on the sub team she was to relay back
37:32all figures back to me well um i wasn't actually officially put in charge of the sub team i had
37:38taken over because nobody had done anything on the you you you took charge is that what you're saying
37:44well basically yeah it was just needed to be done
37:50do you know what i think it's time now for me to get some numbers
37:53so starting uh nick with the ladies team yeah team sterling uh total sales 690 pounds 60 pence
38:07minus the total spend of 475.80 that gave them a profit of 214 pounds and 80 pence
38:14and karen for the boys total sales came to 1015 pounds and 60 pence and you spent uh 399 pounds 40
38:33pence on printing and products leaving your profit of 616 pounds and 20 pence 616 pounds
38:44well it's very good very good for the first task so i've laid on an art inspired reception
38:54if you back at the house so help yourself to canapes and cocktails and i'll see you on the next task
39:02well i think you know you need to go away and discuss this all amongst yourselves because
39:25at least one of you will be leaving this process today thank you thank you
39:40one two three phoenix
39:45well guys we've won our first task and we get a night on the tails
39:55we pulled in the same direction they had eight people that went in eight different directions
40:03that's what won the task yeah we've got we have got a really good bond i think between us
40:06some serious bromance going on
40:09i'm so sorry that we're all in this horrible position but you just didn't do enough
40:23some decisions weren't made quickly enough on the second day we didn't leave early enough for the zoo
40:30when i kept saying it's an hour away and if we catch traffic it's going to take even longer on the second
40:35day the team lost because gabrielle didn't take critical decisions fast enough we voted her
40:52based on her expertise in the field however she didn't come across as an expert at all
40:57and i think she should be fired if i'm dragged back in i will fight very very strongly because i know
41:04that i'm not to blame for this failure of this task i'm really gutted to be going back to the boardroom
41:12i really believed everyone tried their best but i guess in the boardroom i'll actually find out
41:18who was responsible
41:48you can go through to the boardroom now
42:04well um i trust you've you've had a chat amongst yourselves and each of you have some kind of
42:12idea in your mind as to what has gone wrong where where do you want to start from my point of view
42:19the guys were very focused on their margins they were focused on how many products they were going
42:23to buy and what they were going to make at the end of the day we didn't do that that's called strategy
42:28jane no i know that and i'm saying we didn't do that so you're saying it was a bit of a free-for-all
42:33was it well no it wasn't a free-for-all it was left and i did it pricing strategy was sorted out
42:38after we'd done the designing once we knew how much we had so really there was no set strategy
42:44no strategy is that what you're saying no yeah i i do admit first couple of hours it was mental for
42:50me but i think our problem was sales um our markup obviously wasn't high enough we could have maybe
42:57pushed it slightly higher there was 93 items out of your 250 left over yeah 40 of what you decided to
43:05make do you have 40 of your stock left over in your restaurant every day not in any way no no no
43:10do you have a 40 of your stuff left over no the greenwich mob sold 440 pounds worth
43:18and the london zoo team sold 225 pounds worth there seems to be a a period of non-selling
43:28due to um great distance and location well there was a trudge across london yes there was they got
43:34to a shop and attacked the shopkeeper who was so affronted by their sales approach she wouldn't buy
43:39anything she couldn't stand the way the corner the intimidation of bang hyenas i was absolutely
43:46adamant to biliana that this was a long walk biliana was pretty adamant she knew the shops and
43:51she knew they were going to buy them and we really pushed on that point actually the reason i sent
43:55biliana to london zoo was because she knew the area very well right i think um it's my time to
44:01say something now um on the second day i was sent to the zoo because i really do know the area quite
44:07well and i promise you i took them to the closest available shop well the closest available shops to
44:13the regent's park zoo is this down the road in camden town surely no camden town is further is
44:19further from london zoo lord sugar but anyhow i drive past it every day anyway yes exactly
44:25anyway the majority of the problems are definitely a result of bad management initially what happened
44:31was that some decisions weren't made quickly enough so we were held back in greenwich market because
44:36gabrielle backed by jane was keeping us there because she wanted to have some items personalized
44:42before we go and sell them to the zoo these 20 minutes were critical in terms of catching lunchtime
44:47traffic and being delayed even more biliana just as chris go as the 20 minutes we spent walking
44:53across the park i kept saying that it takes an hour to get to the zoo we were caught in traffic we
44:58run out of time biliana i've looked at what your background is it's all to do with financial
45:03services with risk management and so was you focused on margins then or what i understood the
45:09importance of the margins and i sincerely thought this is not something to get involved straight
45:14away if we have three women with businesses if i was experienced in finances i would be straight
45:20in there to prove that i can actually do it and i'm good at what i do risk analysis if that's your
45:25specialities and risk analysis you would have been very risky to go but you still insisted that we went
45:32okay jade you did the design i did design i did print i i sold you know i i think i was a key
45:40member in the team who didn't pull their weight then in your opinion it's really hard to say who
45:44didn't pull their weight i didn't i wasn't with i wasn't with katie so i don't know what she did okay
45:50katie what did you do um well i was a fantastic team player i got involved in every point i made
45:56lots of sales um i got my hands dirty at every point um you made lots of sounds i did sell but people
46:03jumped in on my sales i thought you were sort of missing really i just struggled to get a word in
46:09edgeways a lot and for me i've put my professionalism probably above putting my neck on the line i
46:14suppose because i'm not going to shout over people in order to simply get my voice heard it's just not
46:20what i want to do well look uh ladies we could go on all night here you know the next part of this
46:28process gabrielle which two people are you bringing back in this boardroom now uh biliana and katie
46:38right okay you five ladies go back to the house and i'll see you on the next task thank you
46:44okay look um i'm gonna have a chat with nick and karen i'd just like you to step outside for one
46:58more moment when you come back in here one of you is leaving the process okay
47:04well a fiery bunch of uh ladies there in particular billiana clearly she's rubbed them
47:16up the wrong way but on the other hand she's got some excellent credentials she's not here to win a
47:22popularity contest you know she's here as a businesswoman yeah and gabrielle well she seems a
47:29very nice kind of pleasant goal but some of the people are saying that she didn't give you any
47:34direction and that's the price that's what you've got to sell it for this is the margin i want
47:41and katie well i think it's you that are not quite sure what what what what she's been
47:46out and you're my eyes and ears out there slow off the block she didn't have the force of character
47:51to break through actually
47:52you can go through to the boardroom now
48:06and i think it's reasonable for you to explain why first of all okay um katie because maybe you did
48:29pull your weight but i myself did not see that and i'm just going on what everyone else has told me
48:36and biliana making everyone waste a lot of time okay so biliana doesn't take a brain surgeon to work
48:44out that there seems to be a kind of a general despondency towards you okay now i'm a very fair
48:51person okay and i have seen enough times in this boardroom people kind of trying to gang up on
48:58someone in order to place blame some you know too long in the tooth to fall for all that nonsense
49:04there's got to be a reason for it you got any idea what it is lord sugar i'm so pleased that you you
49:09picked up on that straight away because i felt that throughout the course of the two days i have
49:14been increasingly sidelined for totally the wrong reasons but most of all the main reason is i wasn't as
49:20loud as some of the other girls and was consistently making good points but failing to really enforce
49:26them now lord sugar as you can see from my title i'm in risk management my role within the bank is
49:32analyze the risks and do something about them right now this is exactly how i approach this task
49:39biliana you're sitting there talking like a city strategist where this is a two bob out in this thing
49:45go and buy a bit of stuff print your name on it and flog it to people in the street okay this is not
49:53a takeover of goldman sachs here this is this is simple stuff right i completely agree i think it was
50:00a no-brainer and gabrielle failed to take time critical decisions i was worried about her management
50:05skills i was worried about her decision why were you worried about her management skills because she
50:10wasn't taking the important decisions fast enough she wasn't leading the group i was very much in
50:16control i never had an argument with anybody i made sure everyone that was under my eye worked to the
50:22very maximum they worked to the best they worked to you know that there was blood sweat and tears they
50:28and i was part of that team on day one and that was fantastic that's great that's fantastic i'm glad
50:35however you can't use also this excuse i've got a small voice nobody listens to me i have a small voice
50:41but everybody respected me everyone that was under my eye at least listened to me however you all i hear
50:47is it's just it's just excuse excuse excuse what's your excuse for everything that you did you said to
50:53me you knew the area i made about 210 pounds going to shops you could have made the same if you
51:00actually stood up to what you said you did so so i think i got the picture here i got the picture
51:05sales were time critical lord sugar and we were held back from the beginning of the day and we were
51:10held back later on by honor to hit the train stop stop stop stop stop stop stop stop stop katie um
51:18haven't heard much from me and earlier on today you said to me that you're very professional so
51:25if there's three people already talking to someone i keep quiet keep away have you heard that broken
51:31record before in here yeah you know i mean i can't tell you the amount of times i've heard that from
51:36people who you know do sit back sometimes and do nothing you say that you believe the biggest mistake
51:42is to try and hide behind others you actually say that in your own resume i agree with that it's vital to be
51:48strong i absolutely swear i was not hiding there's no way i would do that why shouldn't i fire you
51:54then what i want to say to you lord sugar is that you know give me another chance give me an opportunity
52:00i will prove to you that i'm a worthy business partner um i'm a great negotiator i'm used to
52:06creating products and getting them to market i've got so much that i can bring to this process okay so
52:12who do you think is responsible for the failure of this task you know i did find that gabrielle took some
52:17time to make decisions but i also have to say biliana that i have found it very difficult to
52:24work with you biliana why shouldn't i fire you lord sugar you shouldn't find me because i have a
52:30complete self-starter and i have achieved so much from my humble beginning i came to this country um
52:36aged 17 on a scholarship that was initially meant to be for one year not only was the scholarship
52:41extended but i was also made head girl and given the responsibility of writing a prestigious school
52:46listen listen listen listen listen listen i don't want to hear about your life your previous life
52:52lots of people got great stories to tell me i don't want to bring out the violin and listen to your sob
52:58story tell me why i shouldn't fire you in respect to this task i i said that opening line because i
53:05wanted to illustrate that whatever i get my hands on i have an impact who should be fired then in this
53:10task i think gabrielle was a bad manager to the first task she she didn't take time critical decisions
53:16she didn't delegate and she didn't show that expertise i admit i wasn't quick on the ball in the
53:21beginning but give me another chance i will be project manager again two three times by the end of
53:26the process and every single time i will be better and better and better you already had your chance no no
53:32no no no i will take the chance again i've heard enough here today i don't need any more intervention
53:40from anybody gabrielle you did work hard and you showed a lot of passion but there's been lots of
53:49talk from the other people about the lack of direction and this task was deliberately designed to be
53:56simple it is not rocket science katie as i said to you earlier on people have been in this boardroom
54:06many times telling me about well i don't like to override this one i don't like to override that one
54:13and sometimes those people's actions cost them dearly
54:18and billiana well you have clearly got the capability of doing something but you have not
54:27given anybody any credit for doing anything including taking something but if you give me
54:32the opportunity i don't wish to hear any more from i would privy that i'll be a solid project manager
54:36i'm not listening to anybody anymore now i've had enough of listening to you i'm telling you
54:42what the situation is whether you like it or not it is a difficult decision to make in this first
54:51task because i don't know any of you okay and so the person leaving today may feel that they haven't
54:57had enough time to show themselves but that's tough that's what this process is about and i did
55:03say at my introduction that i don't want anybody to hide and on that basis if you give me just one more
55:10chance to be a project manager and she failed don't do yourself any favors i'll show you i don't think
55:20so i don't think so billiana you are fired that's a shame but thank you for the opportunity
55:40it's a toss up there katie when you ask for another chance you've got another chance
55:45we will be watching what's going on go back to the house okay thank you
56:01it was a very very close call but katie i don't know i think the balance was that i did know about
56:06billiana it is unfortunate for them that their demeanor uh can be their demise
56:26i feel the decision was unfair and i don't think that my performance cost is the task i think
56:40gabrielle deserved to be fired more than me but my business plan is excellent so i'll just move on
56:46straight away i'll tell you what billiana actually did me the biggest favor in the world because
56:54she buried herself but i i owe her a drink to be honest
57:03joss who do you really want to come back out of the three i want gabrielle to come back
57:07you want gabrielle there were mistakes made but she's a strong candidate we think katie's probably
57:12gonna go home don't we oh oh oh oh oh oh i'm still here
57:34i'm not gonna lie guys that is probably one of the most stressful moments of my whole entire life
57:3815 candidates remain the fight for lord sugar's quarter of a million pound investment has begun
57:50next time what you're going to do is design a new gadget
57:55creating the next big thing basically we've invented the bin
58:03turns out to be a numbers game if you were to order a million units that's a nine million pound order
58:10but in the boardroom it looks like something put nuclear waste in meltdown basic business
58:17principles went right down the drain on this thing you're fired
58:20hear what biliana thinks about being the first to leave the boardroom the apprentice
58:28you're fired is back on bbc2 in a moment
58:31you
58:36you
58:40you
