00:00This is not about a job anymore. I'm the investor and you are going to make me some money.
00:09Heading to London, 16 potential business partners all keen to kick-start a company.
00:18I'm not looking for a friend. If I want a friend, I'll get a dog. I'm looking for a partner.
00:24This is about me investing £250,000 into a business with one of you.
00:31On offer, a 50-50 deal with the nation's most demanding investor.
00:36I'm going to tell you what, you've thrown the gauntlet down and I expect you to win.
00:41Willing to bankroll new business in tough times, Lord Sugar is on the hunt for one winning partnership.
00:48Basic business principles went right down the drain on this thing.
00:52We should have all known better.
00:54Start the car.
00:55It's a deal worth fighting for.
00:57It's the same thing happening again. We have an opinion and you just don't like it.
01:0116 candidates.
01:03You don't have to teach me how to suck eggs. I know how to ask all that. I'm in a rush.
01:06Guys, if you want it, buy it.
01:0812 tough weeks.
01:10Bloody hell.
01:12One life-changing opportunity.
01:14You're fired. You're fired. This is my boardroom and, by the way, this is my money. You're fired.
01:21The Apprentice.
01:25The Apprentice.
01:27Previously on The Apprentice.
01:31Your next task is all about setting up a mobile restaurant.
01:36The job, sell gourmet grub.
01:38Why don't you come and have a smell?
01:40On the streets of Edinburgh.
01:41Roll on, roll on. Adam Corbley's meatball mania.
01:44Adam, these are really small. Just roll with it.
01:46Cost-conscious leader Adam minced measly meatballs.
01:50It's just about profit, isn't it, not taste.
01:52And his pricey pasta flopped with the fans.
01:55How many have you sold?
01:56They've probably done a dozen.
01:58Come on in. Come and try this.
02:00While Jenna's hot pot hit the spot.
02:03That is great.
02:04Jenna, you need to make a decision on the price.
02:06She made a dog's dinner of the numbers.
02:08I feel physically sick.
02:10But in the boardroom, Jenna stole the win.
02:14Well done.
02:16And Adam's high prices cost him dear.
02:19He's just on this cheat, cheat, cheat, thinking that you're going to make a load of money.
02:23Stephen got off scot-free.
02:25You're missing a trick here.
02:26You're missing a big, big trick.
02:27But as I sit in there, he's sitting as quiet as a mouse.
02:29It went bad for Azar.
02:31What was you selling Azar?
02:32What was you doing?
02:33You're very quiet there.
02:34Are you deliberating?
02:35But it was Katie who paid the price.
02:38Big mistakes here.
02:40Katie, you're fired.
02:42She became the sixth casualty of the boardroom.
02:46Now ten remain to fight for the chance to become Lord Sugar's business partner.
02:595pm.
03:06As yet, no task.
03:09What did you want?
03:14Oh!
03:15Steve!
03:16Well, she's got a phone train, guys!
03:18That's not a good sign, is it?
03:20Good afternoon.
03:22Lord Sugar would like you to meet him at a wholesale warehouse in Essex.
03:26The cast will be with you in 20 minutes.
03:29So we're heading to Essex.
03:30Okay.
03:31To a wholesale warehouse.
03:32So get your skate on.
03:37Get a spray towel down there, mate, yeah?
03:39Yeah.
03:40That's what you do in Essex, innit?
03:41Yeah, we need one, man.
03:43When I'm project manager, I don't have a problem.
03:45Who's underneath me?
03:46These aren't your friends.
03:47These are people that you have to utilise to the best, really, aren't they?
03:50So far, no PMs have actually left.
03:53So it's not a bad job, so far.
03:58I think everyone's been project manager now, apart from Jade, I think.
04:03Jade's got to do it.
04:04Yeah, she's got to do it, ain't she, really?
04:05If she steps up to the mark, I think we'll all find out very soon how good she really is.
04:10It's true, actually, is that?
04:11Well, how good she's not.
04:12Essex.
04:13A wholesale warehouse where traders and retailers stock up on goods to sell.
04:17From toys to table lamps.
04:18Everything a business needs to turn a profit.
04:24Everything a business needs to turn a profit.
04:25What?
04:26What?
04:27What?
04:28What?
04:29What?
04:30What?
04:31What?
04:32What?
04:33What?
04:34This is...
04:36At theários.
04:39Whirler stock up on goods to sell.
04:41From toys to table lamps.
04:44Everything a business needs to turn a profit.
04:47MUSIC CONTINUES
05:04Good evening. Good evening, Lord Sugar.
05:06Well, here we are, out in Essex, my local manor, actually.
05:11This is very similar to the environment where I started my business
05:16and that is really what this task is all about,
05:19you starting a business from scratch.
05:22In this warehouse here, there are loads and loads of goods.
05:27I've given Karen and Nick £150.
05:31You're going to choose items to spend your £150 on
05:36and then you've got Essex as your selling arena.
05:41This task is all about smelling what's selling.
05:45Now, you'll find out that some of the stuff that you've purchased
05:48might not shift.
05:49OK, that's business.
05:51They might be a slow mover.
05:53But you've got to recognise what the fast movers are.
05:56Because here's the deal.
05:58Once you're sold out or get close to selling out,
06:01I want you back here to replenish your stock.
06:04You've got until tomorrow night.
06:06I'm going to count how much cash you've got left together with your stock
06:12and that will become your total assets.
06:15And the team that ends up with the most assets is going to win.
06:19And in the losing team, one of you will be fired.
06:23Now, I think I'm going to balance the teams up a little bit.
06:27Stephen, you come over here to Stirling.
06:32And Laura, come over here to Phoenix.
06:37Some people who haven't been project managers might want to put themselves forward.
06:42All clear?
06:43Yes, I'll trigger.
06:44Armed with £150, the teams must start their businesses by choosing stock to sell.
06:55Then, reinvest the takings in their most profitable products.
07:00By the end of tomorrow, the team with the most cash and value in remaining stock will win.
07:07But first, a business needs a boss.
07:11I'd like to say that obviously I want to put myself forward because I haven't been here yet.
07:15Is everyone behind Jade?
07:16Yes.
07:17100%.
07:18I'm clear.
07:19I am a born leader and I usually lead by example.
07:22So hopefully the way I sell, my enthusiasm, being quick to make decisions,
07:26it's all about solutions, it's not about problems.
07:29First decision for Jade, pick two locations to sell from.
07:34OK, so which one do you think is the best?
07:36Would you rather travel a shorter distance and sell products at a low value,
07:41or would you rather travel at a larger distance?
07:43Well, if you can tell me which one's a busier market.
07:45No, I'm not sure.
07:46I'm just highlighting a few key points that we need to be looking at.
07:52Do you want to put myself forward at PM?
07:53I'd happily put myself forward for project manager.
07:55It's not my market, but at the same time, it's what Lord Sugar did.
07:58I want to do what Lord Sugar did.
07:59So absolutely, I think I can do this from a strategy perspective.
08:02I'd like to move forward.
08:04Shall I go for Nick?
08:05Shall I go for Nick?
08:06Two?
08:07Yeah, I'll just go for you.
08:08Right, so let's just go for you.
08:09Brilliant.
08:10I think you did a good job.
08:11Heading up the other team, Nick.
08:13It's quite a simple task.
08:14I don't think I'll get too much, you know, challenge from the team members.
08:17I think, you know, Ricky might be slightly difficult to manage,
08:19but he's a good salesman, so I'm sure it'll go well.
08:21Should we just focus on the locations first?
08:23OK.
08:24And the best location with the highest footfall.
08:25I think Romford Market really looks like a viable option.
08:27Romford Market.
08:28It's very close.
08:29It's seven miles away.
08:30Everybody happy with Liberty?
08:31Liberty happy.
08:32Market stall and shopping centre booked, Nick's team turns to products.
08:37Note, beard trimmer.
08:39That is my favourite item so far.
08:41I can sell that tomorrow, I can guarantee you, for a tenner.
08:44Guys, this is the tan.
08:45Shall we give it a little go?
08:46It certainly is instant.
08:47Essex do love tan.
08:48And obviously, being in the beauty, I'd be great at selling this stuff.
08:51We could easily sell that at about £10 a bottle.
08:54Sterling has behaved, I think, briskly and efficiently.
08:56If you could demo it, it's not too bad.
08:58The good thing is it's instant.
09:00Jenna playing a key role because they're selling ghastly fake tan
09:03and things you stick on your nails.
09:06So you could sell them for a father?
09:07Yeah.
09:08Showing promise.
09:12So you think the other one will just be good
09:14because then we can choose what to have there?
09:16Still lost for somewhere to sell.
09:18Jade's team.
09:19Can we look at the shopping centre one for now?
09:21Sorry, just because we've only got a little time left.
09:23So we're choosing Romford, are we?
09:24Well, which one's closest?
09:25Romford or Ilford?
09:26Ilford's closest, yeah.
09:27Let me have a look.
09:29So I think that we should say closer for the shopping centre one,
09:33although the closest good one, OK, the closest one with the most fruitful
09:37footfall.
09:38If you had to choose, which one would you choose?
09:40Based on information here, which have not been to the market,
09:42I'd look at, I'd look at Pitsie Market.
09:43OK, that's cool.
09:44They were much too emotional.
09:45They were much too emotional.
09:48Insect, vibrating novelty toy.
09:51Doors close in ten minutes and Jade's team still needs stock.
09:55How much are they?
09:56They're 60p.
09:5760p's.
09:58And what would you sell them for?
09:59Now, fake tan, I wouldn't buy that myself.
10:04OK, so I think we should go with buying ten of them.
10:06It's not actually, you know what?
10:07It's risky.
10:08Shall we move on to the next one?
10:09We haven't got most time, guys.
10:10Jade's in a bit of a mess.
10:12So at the moment it's a bit of a bund fight with lots of opinions.
10:15Oh, I hate them.
10:16They've had to rush their product selection because they're running out of time.
10:19The highest margin potentially on any item is the hot water bottles.
10:22Less.
10:23I think maybe we should get more hot water bottles then.
10:25How much do you get?
10:2615.
10:27Yeah.
10:28Tom, thankfully, has taken it upon himself to work out the costs and the margins on everything.
10:32Thank God someone is thinking about the money.
10:37Ricardo?
10:38Yes.
10:39On the other team, through the checkout.
10:42Fantastic.
10:43With a strategy for sales.
10:45We've chosen two sort of categories of products.
10:47One of them is focused on a household, which is for the market.
10:50And then we've got the beauty side of things for the shopping centre.
10:54We've chosen great products.
10:55Products that have good margin on them as well.
10:57So let's hope we win the task.
11:00Hi.
11:01For Jade's team, a mixed bag.
11:04From eyelashes to phone charges.
11:06But no plan what to sell where.
11:09And at the moment I think I'm going to split it almost equally
11:12because we don't know what's going to sell best where.
11:15I think from a strategy, sorry, very quickly.
11:17Just so far as sparingly works.
11:18From a strategy perspective, the one that's furthest away, giving them slightly more products.
11:23Which one's furthest away?
11:24The furthest away is the market.
11:26Is the market.
11:27No, let's forget about it.
11:28Let's forget about it.
11:29OK.
11:30Jade is splitting the products 50-50 to the locations.
11:33But what I would have done is the location furthest away, give them slightly more stock for
11:37them to hold.
11:38And obviously I've read those points with Jade and Jade said she's not too concerned about strategy.
11:47How do you feel about being project manager?
11:49Love it.
11:50I think the strategy is see what sells and then just buy more of it.
11:53Simple.
11:54Stock on board.
11:58Locations locked down.
12:01Tomorrow, start selling.
12:106.30am.
12:11One day to maximise margins.
12:16Selling products to the people of Essex.
12:19If anybody declines to buy, I would say shut up.
12:22Shut up.
12:24Then buy more bestsellers to grow a business.
12:29Also it's a developing time as well.
12:31I presume Essex girls like to be really dark.
12:34Buy four.
12:35Romford Shopping Centre.
12:48Location for project manager Nick, Gabrielle and Jenna.
12:53Nice start.
12:54Out to make a pretty penny from beauty products.
12:57Have we got a cloth to go over there?
12:59I hope so.
13:00Morning.
13:05Round the corner at Romford Market, Ricky and Stephen.
13:08Sent by team leader Nick to flog household goods.
13:12We're going to come in all these directions.
13:13We're the first people they see.
13:15Happy and chappy.
13:16Nice and loud.
13:19Mate.
13:20What a winner.
13:23Picked by the other team, Ilford.
13:26Stocked with half of Jade's mixed products.
13:29I'm assuming we must be here.
13:31Azar, Laura and Tom.
13:33It's a nice shopping centre.
13:34The quality of the shops is good.
13:35Yeah.
13:36It's in the main thoroughfare.
13:4015 miles away.
13:41Come and have a look round.
13:42Come and see what we've got.
13:43Market trader Adam and team leader Jade pitch up at Pitsy.
13:47Alright, do you want to have a look at what we've got today?
13:49Yeah.
13:50Thanks.
13:51A small town market with even smaller prices.
13:54What are we going with Crazy Bugs 2.99?
13:56It's hard because it's a bit cheaper here.
13:59I know.
14:00Everything's really cheap here.
14:02Everything here is much cheaper.
14:04People just walk past and not even look at what we've got for sale.
14:07Have you seen hot water bottles?
14:08Oh, no.
14:09The electric blanket.
14:10Have you?
14:11Yeah.
14:14Lovely jubbly.
14:15Look at that.
14:16Look at that.
14:17Rumford.
14:18Market location for the other team.
14:20And a sales script from Stephen.
14:22This one, I'll do the whole bad back trick, to be honest with you, mate.
14:24Yeah.
14:25There we go.
14:26We've got a mop.
14:27We're going to clean up here today, ladies and gentlemen.
14:28We're the mop.
14:29We're going to clean up.
14:30Mop's going.
14:31Have you got a bad back?
14:32And obviously, I'm walking around with the old bad back.
14:33You'll solve the issue.
14:34Get people out.
14:35Have a bit of banter.
14:36I've got the items to sell to you.
14:38Excuse the feedback.
14:39Have you got a bad back, Stephen?
14:40Unbelievable, Ricky, to be honest, mate.
14:41So your back is hurting?
14:42Killing me.
14:43I've got a cure for that back.
14:44All right.
14:45I've got the extendable and retractable mop.
14:47Is this it?
14:48It's going to solve your back problems.
14:50Extractable, extendable, blue, super mop.
14:54Yeah, I'll definitely have one of them.
14:55I'll even be nice enough to let you choose which one of the ten you want as well.
14:58You can choose your favourite one.
14:59They're all the size.
15:00They are, yeah.
15:0111am.
15:08Romford Shopping Centre.
15:10Free haircuts for life, £5 for a hair trimmer.
15:16With beauty products to sell, Nick and his girls spread the word.
15:21It's not too heavy.
15:22It's not too orange.
15:23It goes unevenly.
15:24It's no streaks.
15:26Really, really nice.
15:27That's so nice.
15:28Yeah, it's not your usual spray tan stuff.
15:30The girls are focused on the beauty stuff here, and they're very good at it.
15:33The tan has been a quicker sale.
15:35None of our other products come even near that.
15:37It's a brand new tan we've got out.
15:39It's lovely.
15:40It's great for sensitive skin as well.
15:41The darker you want it, the more you apply.
15:43So if you want to go out on Saturday night, sleep in it, wash it off Saturday, and then
15:47you've got your tan.
15:48We're here at the shopping centre.
15:5070% women, 70% Essex women.
15:53The fake tan is shifting very rapidly.
15:56Selling it for a tenner, buying it for £2, £8 profit, sounds really good business.
16:01Soon, everybody in Essex will have one.
16:04How are you?
16:05Can I borrow you for a good second?
16:06Very, very quickly.
16:07Ilford, the mixed stock picked by Jade's team, is proving tough to shift.
16:20Is anything here you'd be interested at all?
16:23No.
16:24OK, no worries.
16:25All right, well, have a good day.
16:26Can I grab you for a little second to have a little look?
16:28How about yourself, madam?
16:29It's hard to switch from product to product.
16:32You know, one minute you're selling a toy, next minute you're selling a speaker, next
16:35minute you're selling a beauty product.
16:36Are you a fake tan user at all, or do you like to use eyelashes or nails?
16:41We'll come back.
16:42No bother.
16:43See you later.
16:44Bye.
16:45Come on, take the one, come on.
16:46It's a good present.
16:47Come on.
16:48No, I'm fine.
16:49Come on.
16:50Come on.
16:51Come on.
16:52Come on.
16:53Come on.
16:54Come on.
16:55As Pitsy locals look for market bargains, Jade's plan to boost sales slash prices.
17:01Actually, on some of the things I haven't put a price, I've just put really cheap.
17:04If we've got to do deals, we've got to do deals.
17:06We've got crazy bugs, we've got MP3 docking stations, really cheap.
17:11We've got the self-tan we can do a deal on, we've got a few bits and bobs now to clear
17:15up rainy day prices.
17:16£2 a go now, cost price, let's clear them.
17:19The last few.
17:21Thank you very much.
17:22Shout out a number.
17:23Not your phone numbers, girls.
17:25A price.
17:26Can we get yourselves a bargain now, ladies and gents?
17:29Seven?
17:30Seven?
17:31Done.
17:33Adam is totally at home in this environment.
17:35He understands the customers, he understands what they want to hear, he knows how to sell
17:39to them.
17:40If you were stood here now, I could do you all free, one of each, for a tenner.
17:45Can't ask more than that.
17:46Do you want two for a fiver?
17:47Yeah.
17:48Do you want another, yeah?
17:49Good lad.
17:50Two for a fiver.
17:52In Romford, it's raining.
17:53The heavens have opened.
17:54Where is everybody?
17:55In Romford, where is everybody?
17:56Time to touch base with team leader Nick.
17:57How you doing, guys?
17:58How you doing, guys?
17:59You all right?
18:00Nick, just a quick suggestion.
18:01If it's busy where you are, we're quieter because it's raining, so we go and get the stock
18:02and bring it to you.
18:03Okay, absolutely fine.
18:04If it's quiet where you are, that's absolutely fine.
18:05What we're selling at the moment is the self-tan.
18:06We've got one bottle left, so we really need some more of that soon.
18:07All the tan's gone now.
18:08All the tan's gone now.
18:09So every bit of money we've got reinvested into tan?
18:10We only want tan, so as much money as we can straight into tan.
18:11We are probably five minutes from you.
18:12So what I was suggesting is why don't we move all the stock we can up and put in the
18:15stock?
18:16Team leader Nick.
18:17How you doing, guys?
18:18All right?
18:19Nick, just a quick suggestion.
18:20If it's busy where you are, we're quieter because it's raining, so we go and get the
18:21stock and bring it to you.
18:22Okay, absolutely fine.
18:23If it's quiet where you are, that's absolutely fine.
18:24What we're selling at the moment is the self-tan, we've got one bottle left.
18:25So we really need some more of that soon.
18:27All the tan's gone now?
18:28All the tan's gone now.
18:29So every bit of money we've got reinvested into tan?
18:32We only want tan, so as much money as we can straight into tan.
18:35We are probably five minutes from you.
18:37So what I was suggesting is why don't we move all the stock we've got now to you for
18:41you to sell?
18:42We need to get the stuff as quickly as possible.
18:44We need to set that tan back as soon as we can.
18:47Okay, we'll go straight to the warehouse, mate, and come back to you.
18:49Cool.
18:50Cheers, guys.
18:51They want that tan as soon as they can.
18:56Midday.
18:57Pitsy.
18:58The sun's coming out and the stall's cleaned out.
19:03Just wish we had more stock and we could stay here all day, but I'll now prove that
19:06I can sell shopping centre, market hall, on a beach, anywhere in the world.
19:10No problem.
19:11If things don't work out for you, Jade, come and work for me after your performance today,
19:14yeah?
19:17Next stop, the warehouse.
19:19But first, a call from a czar.
19:22Hi, Jade.
19:23Hi, Jade, you all right?
19:24Yeah.
19:25Good.
19:26We're going to start to get a little bit busier now, which is obviously a good sign.
19:29But I just wanted to clarify the strategy for the day.
19:31We're leaving here now in the next five minutes.
19:34Right, okay, so you're definitely not going back to the market, you're going straight to
19:36the halter.
19:37In hindsight, we would have given ourselves more stock being here, but we didn't know
19:41how busy it would be, so we can't think about that now.
19:43I'm sorry, very, very quickly, Jade.
19:44Just run through me the strategy again.
19:47No, listen.
19:48Look, I'm fine.
19:49Our strategy is, well, I'm leaving here now, I'm going to buy more, maybe three or
19:52four products, spend all of our money, which is £200.
19:55Right, we're fine.
19:56Okay, all right.
19:57I'll speak to you soon.
19:58Cheers, bye-bye.
19:59A czar is doing my head in.
20:01How many times does he want us to run through the strategy?
20:03He just goes on about strategy.
20:04We clarified it.
20:05Concentrate on winning.
20:06Oh!
20:07Concentrate on winning.
20:08Jade's not too concerned about strategy, but strategy is the most important part of any
20:14business.
20:15Without strategy, you know, you're running blind into the dark.
20:18Romford.
20:19Again, they should be back in the next, like, half an hour, so...
20:23If you'd like to buy something, we can hold some back for you.
20:26If you'd like to purchase it now, we can put some on reserve.
20:28See you soon, hopefully.
20:30With no tan, it's time to create a buzz.
20:34Beer trimmers!
20:35Get your beard trimmers here!
20:37Limps in stock left!
20:38£5 only if you buy off me now!
20:42Can't tempt you.
20:43You definitely need these.
20:44Go on.
20:45Some clippers.
20:46Yeah.
20:47Oh, that's for trimming hair.
20:49Beard.
20:50Oh, a beard?
20:51Yeah.
20:52I don't know anyone who's got a beard, except me.
20:55You know.
20:56You must have a friend that has a beard.
20:58No.
20:59As beard trimmers fail to cut it, a plan from Gabrielle.
21:03We are desperately struggling with these beard trimmers, mainly because the majority of
21:08the people here are women, so we've kind of moved it over from beard trimmers to a
21:12bikini line trimmers.
21:15Hair trimmers, only a fiver.
21:19Only a fiver.
21:20Come buy now.
21:22Hair clippers, buy your hair clippers.
21:24Some hair clippers, some beard trimmers.
21:27At the other team's shopping centre, the bugs are beginning to bite.
21:35What's selling really well for us is the little eye insects.
21:40I think that's the thing that all three of us have sold the most of.
21:43There's a load of kids around, so I think we're concentrating on what's working.
21:47How much are they?
21:48They are three pounds or they're three for eight.
21:51Great.
21:52Okay.
21:53As Jade and Adam arrive at the warehouse, a call from the team back at Ilford.
21:58Hi, guys.
21:59Hi, Laura.
22:00How are you?
22:01How's it going?
22:02Yeah, no, it's going well.
22:03It's sort of stand out sort of winners on our side.
22:05We're the little kids' toy, eye insects.
22:07We're thinking about putting a lot of our eggs in one basket with the insects.
22:10There's a great margin.
22:11I mean, we're buying them for 60p.
22:12We're selling them for like maybe two to three pounds each.
22:14You know, we're tripling quadrupling our money, so I think they're definitely a winner.
22:17I think it's good to have a few different things at the store, because if they don't
22:20like insects, you could sell them the other things.
22:22Just to let you know what we've got, we've got 21 MP3 players.
22:25We've got 60 of the insects, 10 of the fake tan, 10 of the hot water bottles, and we've
22:32got 15 charges.
22:34They've come back to replenish their stock, but they've had a very broad approach to
22:39that.
22:40Key part to this task is to smell what sells, and if they haven't done that, I hope it
22:45doesn't end up costing them.
22:49Still en route to the warehouse, but going nowhere.
22:53Hello, Nick.
22:54Stephen and Ricky.
22:55The motorway is like a car parker.
22:58Right.
22:59We are just stuck in here.
23:01It's literally barely moving.
23:04We are selling it out of all the other goods as well.
23:07But I would say we don't want anything but tan.
23:10Please put the faith in us that we'll get to you as quick as we possibly can.
23:15Much, much tan as we can, and we don't want anything else.
23:19Okay, no problem.
23:20Jenna is obviously a massive asset to us because she knows how to sell it perfectly.
23:23But I'm hoping she's able to train you a little bit on how to sell it.
23:26Okay, cool.
23:27Thank you, mate.
23:28See you soon.
23:29Jenna knows how to sell tan.
23:30How hard can it be to sell a bit of tan?
23:31It's easy.
23:32It's easy.
23:33A bit of training on how to sell the tan.
23:34It's fine.
23:35Come on now.
23:36It makes your hand a little bit browner.
23:40With no stock and nothing to sell.
23:47End of the day.
23:48We need to sell.
23:49What do we do?
23:50Profits have stopped for Nick.
23:52We've sold out of everything.
23:55But now it's waiting for more stock.
23:56We need it urgently.
23:57On the other team, heading back from the warehouse, Adam and project manager Jade.
24:06Sorry, Jade.
24:07And another call from Azar.
24:08Sorry, just very, very quickly, Jade.
24:09The issue you've got with you moving locations so quickly, that's a bit of a risky strategy,
24:14so obviously...
24:15Hold on.
24:16Can you...
24:17Sorry.
24:18Just very quickly, just to give you...
24:19So, just what we need to do, basically, is what our plan is here.
24:24The plan is basically sell out the products within two hours.
24:26Take a second trip, come back and push those products.
24:28Also, stuff that isn't selling very well are the leopard skin and nail covers.
24:33And obviously the eyelashes.
24:34Obviously, based on locations, the products will vary in terms of what you sell.
24:38Well done, guys.
24:39Catch you later.
24:40Bye.
24:41Bye.
24:42It's so annoying.
24:43Anyway...
24:55Finally, out of the traffic and into the warehouse, Ricky and Stephen.
25:03I'll get a trolley, mate.
25:04You get a trolley.
25:05I'll get a trolley.
25:06Target, tins of tan.
25:12We've got to find out if they've got more.
25:156, 12, 18, 24.
25:17That's 84.
25:1884.
25:19How many more bottles do you have?
25:20We don't have nothing in here at the moment.
25:22Tan?
25:23Ten.
25:24You have no more?
25:25No.
25:26OK.
25:27So that's all the bottles we've got there.
25:28That puts in a bit of a pickle.
25:29What are your thoughts on tan?
25:30Hi, guys.
25:31Just to give you some feedback.
25:32There's only 84 on the shelf.
25:33They've got no more tan.
25:34What else do you need if they've not got enough tan?
25:36Um, the hot water bottles.
25:37Thank you very much, thank you.
25:38Bye.
25:39Bye.
25:40Bye.
25:41Ilford.
25:42Here you are, boys.
25:43For Jade's team, a rapid restock.
25:44Yeah.
25:45Three, two, one.
25:46Three, two, three, two, three.
25:47No, no.
25:48Two, three, two, three.
25:49What else do you need if they've not got enough tan?
25:50Um, the hot water bottles.
25:51Thank you very much, thank you.
25:52Bye.
25:53Ilford.
25:54There you are, boys.
25:55For Jade's team, a rapid restock.
26:10restock three for eight pounds get your insects as predicted the beetles are a
26:22hit what I'm smelling right now is bugs they're going on hot cakes we're buying
26:27about 60 pH and we're selling for like you know between two to three pounds so
26:33we're making good margin as well thank you very much we were kind of keen to
26:39just go for even more insects but we spoke to Jade and she said it'd be better
26:43to have a little bit more variety Romford as soon as you come I'll sort your sail
26:52out straight away two hours without tan but five ten minutes and we'll be set up
26:59here if you come back five minutes girls I'm supposed to see you back here
27:09where are the guys finally a delivery hi we're here we're here we're here
27:16like fantastic ladies how you doing tan topped up just 16 pound ladies sales take
27:27off thank you very much thank you there's a product inside and there's two tons four
27:35pounds change and again you received in town yeah lovely are you having one yeah it's
27:42very very natural sign is at ten pounds each or two for 16 yeah madam thanks very
27:47much guys everything must go 5 p.m. I know what I'm talking about when it comes to fake tan one two three
28:01it's five pounds three hours left to trade and both teams push for sales is it gonna be the biggest
28:08strategy decision just to buy only insects to build profits for another restock you want us to go to the
28:15warehouse again make sense if you did okay you've got to bring all the stock down then okay it's not
28:21great for you guys you haven't been selling all day now I feel bad for Stephen and Ricky it's back on
28:25the road I am very frustrated right now because I'm a bit of a spare part Stephen and I are the best
28:31salespeople on this team and we're not selling I feel like I could be selling a lot of products
28:35right now but instead I've got to go back to the wholesaler and it has wound me up
28:45six p.m. late-night shopping at lakeside with prime pitches laid on by Lord sugar last chance for both
28:58teams to sell out on their way to restock Jade's team what's our strategy now for the next foot for
29:11lakeside what's what for the resource for listen I think it's just go and spend everything I think
29:16we're all in agreement that we're gonna get a large proportion of insects and whatever you think
29:27a mixture of the other stuff at the shopping center we've got the best product they've all got me sold in
29:47the next hour today stocked up and ready to sell sometimes in life you make a decision can be a good
29:55decision or a bad decision but I'm saying about ten pound each or two for sixty it's got aloe verin
30:00so it's good for sensitive skin obviously do a bit of shaving yourself now you've got the men's
30:04high-quality trimmer so I'm thinking we need to create a buzz and if we have to reduce the price
30:09it's up to you what you want to offer I don't want to do that on Nick's team madam would you like
30:15them up with it prices stay high thank you very much there you go ten pounds please thank you very
30:23much on the other stall if you want to do two for five I'll go for it we just get rid of them Jade's
30:30approach I say what just do deals five for five pound now crazy boat flogged the lot we've got five
30:39hot water bottle completely covers now left to do at a fiver your gift ideas now the last five
30:45guys everything is half price Jade's really focused on high sales now but at rock bottom prices of
30:55course it's important that she sells a lot of goods but she has to be careful that she doesn't totally
31:00sacrifice her margin fake tan is two for five pounds really good I've been practicing on my arm door five
31:05for five yeah yeah it's five pounds please fantastic thank you so much thank you ten minutes to go two
31:16cows yeah so have you got ten pound note on your eyes put two for ten pound I'm gonna keep than that
31:22I've only got four minutes so 7.99 for one or two for ten pound thank you very much 8 p.m. we're done
31:31trading is over for the total cash takings and the wholesale value of remaining stock will be added
31:40together it was a risky strategy to obviously slash the prices but there's still profit in every single
31:48thing that we sold be that 50p or three pound and I stick by what I've done it was fantastic to have
31:55the whole team together selling we've sold a lot when we've been able to sell I'm just not very happy
32:00that we never enough time saying tomorrow the results in the boardroom
32:18you can go through to the boardroom now
32:48good afternoon
33:17well this task is one of my favorites and the reason is it replicates how I started in business
33:30yeah so I'll start off with Sterling you ended up team leader yeah I was voted to be team leader the
33:38team leader then in organizing the thing or what he worked with us not against us so I would say a good
33:42project manager okay so tell us what you did then yeah we first looked at locations we went for the
33:49shopping mall and the market in Romford so what did you pick then what products did you kind of champion
33:55we chose a tanning product some nail wraps we've been this your business no yes it is we did well
34:02with the tanning and nail wraps yes you have some tan on put on you or are you just blushing no I
34:07certainly put some town on my hands um I don't mind wearing fake tans to be honest well Ricky was
34:12he was very vocal wasn't he Essex loves a town he said not giving Essex a great name are you you like well got any of this
34:20stuff Nick and have a quick look at some of it I can offer you fake tans
34:25that's it is it yeah pop those on your fingernail these are the fingernail wraps this is the
34:35kind of Essex kit yeah you're putting together yeah in effect yeah yeah so the fake time is
34:40allocated to the shopping mall yeah and the nails also yeah so how did you get on sold out we did sold
34:47out okay well of everything eventually but quickly of fake tan so at what juncture did you decide that
34:55you're gonna do your first restocking exercise we probably sold about half of the fake tan by about
35:0111 or 12 o'clock and that's when we made the decision to restock so we said who went to back
35:05to the warehouse it was Ricky and Steven it was raining at that point and it was quite quiet on the market
35:10right so you went back to the warehouse and you were left with what a bit of stock to sell in the
35:16shopping center the rest of the stock we had yeah what about the stock that you had left over from
35:21the market did you take it with you we took it with us at the time yes we spoke to Nick about the
35:26timescales how much stock they had left the decision was made that we'd go straight to the warehouse get
35:30there as quickly as we can to get our stock and get back out there again did you have enough stock
35:34while he was waiting for them to come back well unfortunately it took quite a long time to restock
35:38much longer than we thought took a set of we were stuck in traffic unfortunately we can't I don't think
35:42you should plead that it would have taken a long time to get your remaining stock to Nick and his
35:47team probably four minutes I agree yeah I think in hindsight is one of those things very we were
35:54particularly close I mean surely the thing is is that you dump your stock off with them yeah we
36:00should have and let them at least have something to sell absolutely in the back of your bloody van is
36:05it while you're driving up to the warehouse no we couldn't sell it to anyone while it was in the
36:09of a void period where you had nothing to sell so we did run out of stock yeah time shame unfortunately
36:14it was it was really to be without stock during the course of the day is shameful you made an
36:21error there which may have cost you yeah all right okay phoenix now I did mention that I wanted people
36:30to put themselves forward that hadn't been a team leader before so I understand you you took the hint yes
36:35I think good so tell me who went where then so to the market obviously Adam went to the up market
36:42because he's a market trader and I went with him so you and Adam you went Adam and I went to Pizzi yeah
36:48yeah that was a bit of a distance isn't it well unfortunately we were discussing obviously where
36:52to go at the beginning you spent too long thinking about it didn't you it did take a while so yeah we got
36:58those two locations and we thought right we need to get products that people are going to like it and we
37:03added another um Essex favorite apparently eyelashes fake I know they're having a good day in Essex here
37:08fake eyelashes and this thing here now those were our best believe it or not they attracted a lot of
37:14attention well how much were these then I think there was 60p weren't there and we sold them for
37:19three well 2.99 or three pounds how much three pound each and there were people were begging for
37:25three pound well that margin is fantastic um how did it go in the market yeah it went very well stuff
37:31was flying out in the market yeah things mainly down to Adams market patter rainy day prices come on
37:38gorgeous ladies and all sorts I heard good so did you feel you're being organized properly a good
37:47motivator but I think from strategic perspective you know my views were slightly overheard this little task
37:52it's about time efficiency as well so it's important to save as much time as you can where possible to
37:57ensure you get your maximum efficiency of selling I would have been it would have been appreciated if
38:00you would have pointed that out if you had those views I did point out before you split the stock
38:04that also point to saying the strategy wasn't clear and even though we highlighted it you get
38:08corporation from all your people you're happy with a car you know they're amazing really good
38:12obviously strategy was mentioned a lot of times by as our it was good well let's look at some of
38:18these numbers shall we bottom line is and she's all about the assets that you end up with assets is
38:28made up of cash and stock Karen then with your team let's hear what you got okay well at the end of
38:35the day the cash in hand was 422 pounds and 61 pence and the remaining stock was valued at 415 pounds and 60
38:45pence which meant your total assets were 838 pounds and 21 pence that's not bad day's work is it
38:53Nick your team well when they cashed up they had 681 pounds 30 remaining stock valued at 273.90
39:09which gives you total assets of 955 pounds 20 pence even better still then nearly a thousand pounds
39:18nearly a thousand pounds well well done you see that's it really that is what this task is all
39:27about that's what it demonstrates really is that there's no bank loans no PowerPoint presentations no
39:34venture capitalists involved here so you know I think you send a message out to Britain really I
39:41gave you a van that's it and 150 quid and you demonstrated that in the course of a day that you
39:47can change that into 955 pounds and so very very well done to the winning team look you've spent
39:55enough time in Essex I'm going to send you into London now as a treat you're going off to a bar to
40:02enjoy some cocktails made by a the UK bartender of the year okay so stay sober and I'll see you on the
40:10next task thank you look you done well 838 pounds that you lost you'll need to go away and come back and
40:33discuss this with me a bit more so I can decide which one of you will be leaving the process today
40:38okay this wind feels absolutely amazing
41:08it's gonna be really hard because I was buzzing I thought it was really good we did well it's hard when you talk about who's the canter
41:37I was the p.m. so probably me we didn't do a bad job we just didn't do as well I feel that in this task
41:46I've actually sold more than all the other team put together I think I'm you know I'm fine if I do get
41:51brought back into the boardroom I'll hold my own I'm sure Lord Sugar knows what I'm about by now it's quite
41:55simple I don't think we needed to have some details or strategy about this and this and this and this I think
42:00Jade's in the firing line I think it's probably purely down to strategy I think it will cost her that she
42:06didn't listen to me but obviously Jade's quite a strong character she'll she'll fight a corner as she
42:10always will let the fights begin
42:13could you send the candidates in please you can go through to the boardroom now
42:38well while you've been out there I've been looking at some numbers and maybe it'll give you an
42:59indication of where I think things have gone wrong if you take this famous fake tan for example the
43:07average selling price that sterling sold was six pounds 71 and yours was three pound fifty you Tom I
43:17was assisting on the costings yes correct yeah I think the only items that I didn't really have much
43:23knowledge were the beauty products I didn't know how much fake tan or nails or the eyelashes were worth so
43:27we took kind of instruction from Jade and Laura on those ones and also at the end of the day Jade
43:33decides obviously drop the prices a little bit at Lakeside obviously to generate a little bit more
43:36income for us as a matter of interest taking the fake town yeah what was your retail price at the
43:42beginning of the day between four and five pound we to be honest if I buy fake tan it'll be between seven
43:48and ten pounds but that fake tan I saw there is one I would look at as a 299 I mean the point Nick makes
43:55was the fake tan for example their team was selling at a ten pound a pop and you and you're talking
44:01about selling it for three pound fifty you lost by 117 pounds and that 117 pounds could have been made
44:08up more by more margin more profit yeah going to Pitsy with 50% of the stock from what I understand if
44:18you'd have had more stock in Pitsy you would have sold more there so why not 70 to Pitsy and 30 to
44:25the shopping center my 50-50 and I thought you know what I don't know how well it's going to sell there
44:30I think it was a case of smell ourselves you know we was going to a market store I'm a market trader and
44:36I didn't know how busy it was going to be we sold out we got a good profit margins you know we turned
44:41about 60 quids with a stock in 290 quid and well imagine taking another 60 quids worth there and it
44:47turns into another 190 you're home and dry you win yeah yeah right it was a bad decision and for all
44:54fairness I said Pitsy and obviously part of the strategy was you to hold more stock rather than
44:58splitting it 50-50 because obviously we were closer I can't I can't remember that happening I wish I'd
45:02have heard it we did spend too much time arguing with it as I kept talking about the strategy and
45:07and what sold what where and I said we wasted the time is that what you're saying well yeah
45:11because it's not as if one's a flea market one's a farmers market they're both just normal you know
45:15markets you could have shut him down couldn't you it's quite hard to shut people down if they're
45:19very passionate so you have to listen to them so you spent so long discussing the location of the
45:24market you didn't leave yourself much time to look at products no didn't no right okay Laura
45:31what do you think you did on this task what was your contribution I would see why I hope
45:35where I came into my element was in the sales selling you think you was involved just in the
45:41selling basically if you ask me where I think I stood out that's it's a sales we were all just
45:45as involved in picking the products and I did just as much as these guys I'm just at the end of the day
45:50right now everybody seems to be covering all the main points well um you know the the the thing smell
45:56what you sell when you replenished the stocks I was told by Karen that you just said to them as a
46:04team leader you know buy what you think you need I said it doesn't seem to be any strategy over right
46:10let's sit down here and work out what is actually selling well and only buy this and only buy that
46:16and only buy this well they fair enough you go and buy your first load of gear and it's just an
46:22instinctive feeling as to what you think is going to sell fair enough and it always happens that there's
46:27something that sells and something that doesn't sell and so it's logical is it not that when you
46:32go off to buy some more you only go and buy the stuff that you've learned is selling they they only
46:37bought what had sold well on your second trip you bought everything again you were still buying fake
46:42tans of which you had 46 left of the 90 that you bought you know you started off with seven products
46:51you ended up still with all seven products which leads me to believe that you didn't learn what
46:57we're selling because you know it can't be right it can't be right I was saying well we've not sold
47:01very well in the nails all day and I would have thought we wouldn't have even bothered with them then
47:05did you buy more because you told us buy some of everything Jade who bringing back into this boardroom
47:13with you I'm gonna bring as our and I'm gonna bring Tom all right okay it's interesting even
47:35though I made all the right decisions well I don't know who to choose I don't know I know that I don't
47:39I know those are caused a problem so it's hard to choose someone else I think everybody else is
47:44causing a problem of causing problems are throughout you phone up and you just always talk you say the
47:49word strategy and it makes you sound like you know what you're talking about I mean I understand you
47:54want as are in here I think I don't know I don't know who asked you're the team leader you're supposed
48:00to obsess everyone sold really well I know Tom sold really well it's not just about selling the visit
48:06hey see I need to meet I don't mind Jade it's up to you right that it yeah it's gonna have to be I
48:21don't know what else to do me to go back to the house I'll see you on the next house okay okay
48:28thank you well I get the feeling here Jade that you weren't in that much control to be quite frank so
48:47I'm gonna be interested to hear from you when you do come back in because I'd like you to step outside
48:58as our he seems to say the right things in here does he say them at the right time when they're
49:08on the task he claims he does he says he's not listened to he sort of huffs and puffs his way
49:14through tasks I'm not happy with this I'm not happy with that I think people think he's just having a
49:18moan so they don't actually listen to the point that he's making I don't know whether Jade organized
49:26them well I just don't think that she had this thing under control they did pull their weight
49:32and she got great enthusiasm out of them but actually I think it was chaotic Tom he was a
49:38numbers man here I don't know why she's brought him in we'll have to find out why she's brought him
49:42in maybe she's got some justifiable reason let me tell you she had not I've had Tom by her side
49:48she would have been in all sorts of trouble I think she'll regret it it should go see you now
50:01Jade I looked at your application you say in here one of your worst business skills is that you can
50:20make hasty decisions and not analyze situations for long enough do you think you made a hasty decision
50:27today admittedly Tom really shouldn't be in it he did his job well and he did he did what he was
50:33asked of and you know all the way back in here today do you know what it was a mistake and I
50:38apologize I was put under pressure I wasn't prepared that I was going to have to do that I was I was so
50:42confident that we'd done a good job hmm you don't think you should be in here I think that someone
50:48like Adam Yeh did brilliantly well selling but then this isn't just about being a salesman you've got
50:51to have other qualities to other attributes and I think I've shown this task I've got other abilities
50:56why do you think she's brought you in here you know I wasn't prepared I didn't prepare to lose
51:01usually I prepare to win I made the wrong decision Laura really gives you when we spoke if she said
51:06that you know you you performed really well when you're with her and she did say that as I just
51:10kept budding in on the phone and wanting to speak to me about strategy all the time but no solutions
51:15let's see how it goes that was your answer to every question let's see how it goes when people make
51:24good suggestions oh you know I want to listen you're a project manager that is your job to be
51:28able to listen to suggestions about dropping off stock etc but when someone is not being constructive
51:35and saying the same sentence all the time about have you thought about this this and this but not
51:39coming up with a solution it actually hinders what you're doing and it actually wastes time
51:44waiting is one of those people that just says that's wrong this is wrong yeah I think in all
51:52fairness I think the word strategy was out what that was out to Jade's depth and I think I got
51:56to a stage where I've tried coming with so many solutions I got to end them I was just saying I was
52:01just saying what is our strategy came after lunch time I was saying just tell me our strategy I said
52:06to you this is what's gonna happen I'm gonna go and get stock you guys are then kind of going to get
52:10stock when you've finished at five o'clock and then you're going to meet us at Lakeside and that
52:15is what happened it was simple from an objective point of view I think as all does have a tendency
52:19to waffle on sometimes of about strategies but in his defense he was the person who said we should
52:25have more products at the market I know do you know who's responsible for the fact that you didn't
52:30win this time I think it was Jade's responsibility you think so yeah so Jade why do you feel you should
52:37stay in this process I think I should say a hundred percent I need you to see my business plan my business
52:41plan for your investment is top quality at the end end of a five-year process it'll actually end up
52:48being a group of multi-million pound companies I've got a lot of experience great great great but I'm
52:54thinking about today okay is that you know based on your performance yeah past seven weeks why shouldn't
53:01I terminate your existence in this process I've never been in these three seats at the moment and
53:09that shows actually even when we're in the losing team people value the fact I'm in there I have been
53:15a constant performer all the way through and I've sold all the way through hmm who do you think should
53:22be fired then I think as I should be fired because I don't think I don't think he's contributed that much
53:28through the whole process your communication was done with that with Laura and you weren't worried
53:32about everybody else's performance but actually at the end of the day it's about being a good being
53:36able to communicate with people being able to present yourself in a good way being able to get
53:40on with people around you which is really important in any business aspect I think that's traits I have
53:46which I don't think that you make you do that's thing you're out of your depth Tom who do you think is
53:54responsible for the failure of this particular task unfortunately I'd have to point finger at Jade and
54:00that's just based on the strategy and not having complete control well look it's quite clear that
54:09you shouldn't be sitting in the boardroom here today so I will say that you're gonna go back to
54:15the house and I will see you on the next task Jade I think that you show a lot of enthusiasm but I get
54:25the feeling on this particular task that maybe you could have really controlled it a little bit better
54:31and I think me a fact that you've brought Tom back in here when in fact he was a great help to you on
54:37this occasion is a difficult thing for me to accept to be perfectly honest with you as are people saying
54:46about you that you just stand around you're moaning all the time this is going wrong that's going wrong
54:52you don't seem to come forward with any solution to what should be done but Jade as the project manager
55:04you were responsible really for the whole strategy of this task here margins profits and location for that
55:15reason I'm kind of struggling but I do admire your enthusiasm
55:27and on that basis I'm going to have to say that as are your fire
55:36go back to the house I'll see you both on the on the next task okay
55:55as are nice enough fellow but who wants to go into business for someone that no one wants to listen
56:13to certainly not me no
56:25I do feel robbed I was wrong to be fired and I think Jade should definitely been fired I think
56:31she's out for depth and she had no strategy in place I think it's people in this process who
56:35are playing a game playing a strategic game and I think they want to be out the process they see
56:40me as a threat they see me as one of the stronger candidates and obviously they've got their way
56:43Tom's not going out of the czar and Jade which one I was in the final three with the czar last week
56:53and Lord sugar said to you start speaking he was making sure he spoke this week yeah but everything
56:59he said was negative a lot the strategy was on Jade's head so unfortunately don't like seeing it but I
57:08think I did a lot of talking as you can imagine I think he's all wanted to really not beg for it
57:29but I don't think he really wanted to go that far I had to I was I went in there and I thought I've
57:34got to fight for it now well done you so you should fight for it well done
57:38in the fight for Lord sugar's quarter-million-pound investment nine candidates remain next time
57:49you're going to organize the sale of urban art this is my latest piece
57:55making money from masterpieces all three pieces for 3200 but in the
58:08boardroom they are massive errors it's not a pretty picture to me this is not a game this is a serious
58:16opportunity you're fine so as our takes the black cab of shame over to BBC to now to meet
58:27Dara O'Brien and Russell Kane for the apprentice you're fired
58:38you you you
