00:00This is not about a job anymore. I'm the investor, and you are going to make me some money.
00:09Heading to London, 16 potential business partners, all keen to kick-start a company.
00:17Don't try and hide, because we're not playing where's Wally here. I'm not looking for Lord Lucan.
00:24I'm looking for somebody who's going to show me that they have got the business acumen to be my partner.
00:29On offer, a 50-50 deal with the nation's most demanding investor.
00:35That first few lines there, to me, was you digging a bloody great big hole.
00:41Willing to bankroll new business in tough times, Lord Sugar is on the hunt for one winning partnership.
00:48Basic business principles went right down the drain on this thing. You should have all known better.
00:54Start the car!
00:56It's a deal worth fighting for.
00:58That's not fair. Like, we're taking it in turns.
01:00That's not fair. She needs to cop onto herself.
01:0216 candidates.
01:04It's way outside the box. It's way outside the box.
01:0812 tough weeks.
01:10Where am I coming?
01:12One life-changing opportunity.
01:14You're fired. You're fired. This is my boardroom. And by the way, this is my money. You're fired.
01:28Previously on The Apprentice.
01:30Your task is to come up with a new fitness programme.
01:34An exercise in teamwork.
01:37It's the same thing happening again. We have an opinion and you just don't like it.
01:41Ricky's beat battle kicked off.
01:44Five, six, seven, eight.
01:46But his routine lacked punch.
01:48Oh, sorry, I got that wrong.
01:50On the other team, do you want to keep fit? A retro theme. Welcome to the groove train.
01:56But props were a problem.
01:58You would be supplied with the space hoppers, the skipping ropes.
02:00Where would we keep them all?
02:02In the boardroom.
02:04You seem to have pulled it off.
02:07Steven's team won on points.
02:10I think you brought the wrong people back in here.
02:12Ricky's judgement came under fire.
02:14That's a bad management move.
02:16Laura fought back.
02:18If you were so concerned about the message being diluted and what you wanted there, you should have gone to the editing.
02:24But Dwayne was declared unfit.
02:27You put yourself forward to produce the video.
02:30The video was the main cause of the failure of this task.
02:33Dwayne, you're fired.
02:35He became the fifth casualty of the boardroom.
02:39Now 11 remain to fight for the chance to become Lord Sugar's business partner.
02:45No.
02:585pm.
03:02For the candidates, some time to themselves.
03:06Come on!
03:07My mind's not working!
03:09Oh, loser!
03:11Alright!
03:12Oh!
03:14Two metres!
03:15Who is the scapid?
03:20Well...
03:24Oh
03:41Hello
03:48Come and organize yourself around here a little bit. Yeah
03:54Good evening
04:04Sorry to disturb you on your day of rest, but you're going to be off on a bit of a journey
04:10Now if someone mentioned to me street food, I'd be thinking to myself a hot dog store
04:17Fish and chips store, but there's been a bit of a revolution as far as
04:21Street food is concerned and what it is. It's high-quality food being served on a
04:28Mobile unit halfway between good quality takeaway and the high-class restaurant
04:34So your next task is all about setting up a mobile restaurant
04:39But I'm not going to set it up for you in London
04:42I'm going to send you up to the culinary capital of Scotland
04:47Edinburgh
04:48Where this type of business is still in its infancy now?
04:52This is quality food. I don't want any junk served up here
04:58now as usual, it's a very very simple the team that makes the most amount of money is going to win and
05:05And in the losing team one of you will be fired
05:10Adam you are going to be the team leader. Thank you of Phoenix. Okay, and Jenna you'll be the team leader of
05:17Sterling
05:19Everything clear yes
05:21Good luck, and I'll see you in the boardroom in a few days time
05:24Cheap to start up with low running costs
05:32Gourmet street food can turn a tasty profit
05:37To take a bite out of this booming business both teams have two days to create and sell a signature dish on the streets of Edinburgh
05:46I want to win this task. Yeah
05:49Street selling
05:51I'm perfect
05:53The market trader Adam's team first job choose a cuisine
05:58So scratch people generally eat deep-fried Mars bars, you know deep-fried food
06:03Yeah, yeah, I guess
06:06Definitely rule out Japanese. No, whoa whoa whoa whoa don't rule out Japanese sushi and bento has been massively popular
06:12If I see Japanese, I'm gonna think sushi. I'm gonna think raw fish. Who eats sushi?
06:16My favorite street food is probably something quick and easy
06:19Probably probably a burger. I don't think we should go to over the top of this
06:23I think we should just keep it simple
06:24I'm gonna pitch for pasta Italian meatballs and pasta you can really mass-produce that it's always gonna be gourmet really high quality
06:31Pasta is pasta. Dress it up with a bit of spinach or something like that
06:35Make it organic. There's there's things that we could do. Do we have any more ideas first or not?
06:41I'd just have a chicken wrap
06:43Up to now pasta is the best idea that's come to the table as far as I can see so we're going for Italian. Yeah
06:55I can't cook but I've worked in the restaurant trade so I've got an idea leading the other team salon owner Jenna
07:02I'm really happy about being here and sterling
07:05I've only had one win in the process so far so there's a bit of pressure on it, but I can handle it
07:10Edinburgh is very touristy
07:12So Scottish would be more appeal to the tourists. I wonder can you do is it like traditional Scottish pies that you could sell?
07:19Yeah, the only thing is just that what's ringing in my ears is that Lord sugar wanted quality and I think you would get a pie and beans at football game in
07:26Edinburgh, you know, I think you might be better going for something like a
07:29a really really lovely casserole with a Scottish twist on it like
07:33Aberdeen Angus beef it's just trying to keep the ingredients cost as low as possible to make as much money as we can
07:39Beef is expensive. I think a high cost is not something we should be scared of doing. Yeah, so we all agreed that we're going to go for Scottish
07:47With the food fixed for both teams
07:49It's a bit of a foodie aren't you Tom? Yeah
07:51Yeah, you know the score with all that sort of thing taste and you've got a good palate on you
07:55Yeah, Adam allocates jobs
07:57Research is my bag and branding. It's where my strengths lie. That's what you do. Yeah, okay. I like the branding as well
08:03Right, okay, Steven. I'm gonna put you in charge of the research team. You're a good manager
08:08Good communicator. I can work well with you. I'm gonna put Jade and Katie with you because that's both their bag
08:13We can win this. Yeah, okay. I'm gonna win it
08:219 a.m
08:23Today it's off to scotland
08:31But first a gourmet food fair for a spot of market research
08:37Stuck in there a chance for the teams to see how it's done
08:42Wow
08:45We sell diver pork scallops with some celeriac puree
08:49Gloucester old spot bacon and seashore vegetables
08:53It's fine dining on this on the street fine dining on the street. Yeah
08:56Wow, nice. Absolutely delicious
09:02Why did you win dish of the year? What's special about your particular dish?
09:05We use really high quality ingredients on the attic where we can
09:09Strong quality food rather than the thing that you can make the biggest margin on most easily
09:15Adam, you all right mate? I'm very well, yeah
09:17Do you want me to give you the feedback from the research? Yeah
09:19Right, the feedback was put a focus on high quality ingredients
09:22Yeah
09:23So you have to consider that in terms of your options you're gonna go for
09:26Thank you
09:29Fired up by a taste of top-class street food
09:36The teams head north
09:41I keep going back to pasta realize I mean it's cheap you can swap it out on the trays like school dinners
09:46Still chewing over ideas with his team adam
09:49The new corn beef has broke it up, corn beef's cheap
09:52Corn beef, I wouldn't add corn beef in there
09:57Corn beef
09:59Corn beef
10:00No, I wouldn't use corn beef
10:02Bulk it up, isn't it?
10:05All this talking about food's made me hungry
10:07I hope the trolley dolly will be around soon
10:12I'm part of a team setting up a gourmet food outlet in edinburgh
10:17Armed with maps and directories each team must pick a licensed spot to set up
10:22a stall
10:23We have a list of locations and I was hoping just to run through those with you
10:26For advice on tourist hot spots, Nick calls a city centre hotel
10:31How about princess street?
10:31It's a very vibrant place, you've got shoppers and people like that
10:36How about parliament square?
10:37Parliament square, yeah, it's one of the places that attracts the most people in the city
10:41Yeah, that would be the number one spot I would say
10:44And the last one is a Tynecastle stadium
10:46Well, I mean, obviously you've got a huge match there tomorrow with Rangers
10:49So, um, it'll be very, very busy obviously
10:52But, uh, yeah, I'm not sure whether it's my gravy crowd or my food crew
10:56But, um
10:57Okay, brilliant
10:57On the other team
10:59If I was setting up a business, I wouldn't go to football
11:02End of
11:03But, if we don't get football tomorrow, we've lost
11:06Spotting a chance to feed football fans, research and development manager, Katie
11:12We know that we're going to have people, I know that we're going to sell
11:15You'd be a fool not to go for football
11:17I'm against it, football fan, cold day, I'm going to get a burger and a beer
11:20I just think we can sell anything when you've got that many people walking past June
11:24Even if we don't sell to as big a percentage
11:27You've convinced me, take the product out of it
11:29If we've got 40,000 people at the game tomorrow, we're going to sell 200
11:32I'm happy for that to fall on my head if the football's like a bad idea
11:35I've pushed it
11:37Makes sense
11:382.30pm
11:41Edinburgh
11:43Oh, I'm home
11:45While half the teams leave to brainstorm branding
11:50Project managers head for the kitchens
11:54Do you think people like to speak, like, a Scottish language?
12:00Like, just a pure Scottish language
12:02Well, if someone comes to the stand and they speak Scottish to us, will you be able to stand what they're saying?
12:07Oh God, Gina, stop
12:15Laid on by Lord Sugar, both teams get top chefs to help cook up gourmet dishes
12:21for Adam's team award-winning Italian chef Mattia meatballs and pasta is an idea that we're
12:29tying with if you say meatballs everybody knows that is Italian let's go for it but we're gonna
12:34start with you know for some rosemary could we use dried rosemary maybe it's cheaper doesn't
12:39doesn't have the same flavor as the fish I'm just drinking a cost but okay okay okay it's
12:45just about profit in it not taste you know it's I know I know you're saying but I think we need to
12:50find a balance about cost and quality you know I want to sell quality products but if we're using
12:55more of fresh ingredients it's going to be dearer than using dry the thought process that's running
12:59through Adam's mind is cheap cheap cheap cheap and Tom was having none of it Thompson that will do this
13:05properly and he's right massive we've got a brand this we got we're gonna come up with something
13:11I'm thinking Mattia Mattia's meatballs would you be all right with that you know it's better than
13:16Mama Mia's meatballs or Uncle Mama you know what I mean it's Mattia for the other team a Michelin
13:24starred Scottish restaurant hi I'm Jeff and Jeff I'm Ricky hi welcome what we're trying to do is
13:31trying to make a gourmet beef casserole the main thing is it's got to be good quality it's got to be
13:35well hung you know you've got to make sure you get the best and that's what you're looking for you're
13:42looking for that taste a portion like this how much do you think it would cost us to make two
13:47pounds two pound fifty the key is the meat that a portion cost to make one meal of this is going
13:58to be between two and two pound fifty right just to let you know that that's a lot I mean let's be
14:08honest you don't get meals in in actual restaurants that cost that much to make 4 30 p.m just give
14:21us some real words that represent high-end Italian in charge of branding their meatballs Katie Steven
14:27and Jade it's about simplicity we're trying to do it slick so it's utterly delicious delicious I do I
14:34really like that we're whipping up now a test of the meatballs Matthew has just taken us through it
14:44now he's also been kind enough to let us use his name so I didn't know whether you wanted to use the
14:49name Mattia's meatballs maybe Mattia meatballs unless you've got any other ideas I personally
14:54think that's a good name do you in terms of a name we've got for something very slick Adam so it's
14:58very different to what you've just said utterly delicious I've got a couple of blank faces here
15:05I definitely think we need to get meatballs in the name somewhere are Italian in the name yeah
15:11delicious meat absolutely delicious meatballs well today this just meatballs right I understand what
15:16you're saying that guys so you know I'm happy to leave that with you Steve if you run it right
15:21we'll make a fortune all right pal while the food is finessed next job for the branding teams a
15:28makeover on their mobile food stores it's very nice doesn't it very nice it's not quite the right color
15:35yeah well they people if you could type gourmet scott pop should we try and cover the dark earthy red
15:45yeah I think that works don't get any tartan on there at all have we no but I'm quite happy with
15:50this our brand is utterly delicious they're meatballs this is exactly what we wanted brand
15:56why looks expensive we've worked really really hard on the branding side to make sure that this is a
16:02high-quality product that's what Lord sugar wanted that's what we're going to bring to the table
16:06literally 10 p.m. an industrial kitchen premium produce purchased Michelin starred recipe at the
16:20ready time to mass-produce Scott pot portion size right I mean that's a lot of meat to veg combination
16:29there it's going really well I'm really pleased for casseroles cooking nothing to worry about so
16:35we spent 200 pound at the butchers all the beef and all the haggis yep and then it's 6882 plus 200
16:41pounds 26882 I think we've ordered plenty of meat maybe a bit too much meat but I think meatier the
16:49better divided by the number of portions 175 equals one pound 54 ish that's our cost price okay great
17:02thanks for the meatball team a cookery school good day guys we've got this stuff down to 47 pence a
17:11portion using local ingredients how can we get it down so cheap best and best in the business let's go
17:16crack up he went down the road to make it as cheap as possible massive profit margin to beg to
17:26day may look at you also get some more this shrunk a little bit and they shrunk a little bit while
17:32they're being cooked up battle stations yeah these are really small let's roll with it just keep going
17:37if we can sell these at 599 and make 550 a portion we'll smash this to pieces each one of them for me
17:44that's two pound two pound coins on the pound coins on there mate midnight where's the time salt and
17:51pepper fire fire let's get these in the oven food pre-cooked and ready to go the kitchens close let's go

20:38boys five ninety nine get yourself some retreat before the match I'm worried about a price I think five
20:45ninety nine for this audience might be too much but we can always come down in price so we'll see how
20:50it goes on the other half of Adam's team the only thing I'm having a little bit of a wobble about the
20:58price keen to maximize margins Katie I would never ever over price and under delivering business but we're
21:06here to win a task people are only going to be able to buy these meatballs once if they're prepared to pay
21:13eight pounds even if afterwards they're like oh we're still the same process now I know that that
21:18is probably gonna make me look awful but what price thinking well I'm thinking more like seven ninety
21:23nine if they're willing to pay it we'll sell it hello Katie believes you should be going at a much
21:31higher price Adam seven ninety nine I'll stop you there right there's cafes around there doing full

30:33can't interest you in any any cash at all time passing strategy two for six quid a lot to sell yeah but
30:41that means they're going out of three pounds it's only one pound fifty more than what we're selling
30:44it's better to go out on three pounds and not at all Jenna doesn't have much room to maneuver on her
30:49price every portion of stew costs the team one pound fifty to make they have to be really careful what
30:55they're charging the customer because every time they drop their price they're eating into their margins we've got
31:01a hundred dishes left here we get rid of the hundred dishes we get any stock left there's no point I mean you hungry
31:05traditional Scottish cuisine Jenna you make a decision on the price yeah two for six pound
31:10Vicky gabriel four pound needs two for six pound now would you like a taster can we have two more please
31:17delicious so you've got another two after this to come out come and try this thank you very much enjoy the food
31:23come on now last few two pound and go now last few portions of meatballs for today now thank you cheers for three for a tenner
31:30yeah all right great Katie where's Katie where is Katie one minute to go guys one's ready here three pounds
31:38come another part we need to get rid three pounds guys you want a casserole come on three pound each
31:44five p.m. well done guys well done everyone well done guys what's your head okay I honestly don't think
32:02we've done it there for Edinburgh bye bye meatballs and stew for the teams back to the boardroom the results and Lord Sugar
32:32you can go through to the boardroom now
33:02good afternoon well Phoenix Adam I made you the project manager you did I was pleased about that
33:21thank you yeah so let's hear what happened then we all decided on Italian in the end pasta which is what
33:28we started off of on day one first thing pasta meatballs and pasta so homemade Scottish pork meatballs
33:33because it's a cheap meat it's very fatty so it's cheap but the fat actually helps the heat it's cheap
33:40but it's key to the meatball recipe because it's it's a lot of fat in it so it's mince so it makes a
33:46quality meatball but it makes a quality meatball large sugar don't get me wrong we weren't going for
33:51you know poor quality but it happened to be cheap to buy I'm actually spending I am we we spent about
33:5790 pound in with some is you trying to keep the cost down yes of course yeah but I wanted to create a
34:03gourmet dish where is the gourmet side of this you had to try it you have to try and they were beautiful
34:08really really nice real gourmet dish weren't they Tom yeah it was absolutely fantastic we use very
34:13authentic Northern Italian recipe using fresh rosemary you know all that sounds very basic it was
34:18actually a very nice tasting recipe indeed so where'd you go then to start selling them we went to the
34:23Rangers and Hearts game how much were they 599 we priced them up 599 a portion yeah I mean based on
34:32research I mean they don't pay that for a striker there so do you think that was a good move going
34:37to a football match it was slow to be five it was hard work at the football match did you have a name
34:43for your mobile restaurant yeah the promotional marketing team was in charge of that it was
34:49utterly delicious at first and then I think I did the key name meatballs I believe we're obviously
34:56going to put meatballs in oh I'm no expert on Italian cuisine but utterly delicious meatballs
35:03doesn't sound very Italian did you have any other ideas I did have a different plant whilst we're
35:08speaking to the chef Mattia I asked him if we could use his name Mattia's meatballs what happened I didn't
35:13want to shoot the marketing team to pieces basically larger than worked in it all day can I just tell
35:18you something right things get sold on brand and image meatballs with the name backed by the famous
35:25chef you can sell them for a higher price than you can ordinary meatballs that applies to anything
35:31whether it is a watch whether it's a pen and you missed a big trick there so how is your project
35:39manager good yeah I think it was good yeah good good cooperation from your team yeah all-round yeah
35:46good Sterling now how was Jenna as a team leader yeah very good so how'd you get on we decided in
35:54Scottish was going to be the one I wanted to go I'm a northerner Lancashire and I personally believe
36:00the more northern you go the more traditional you got so what'd you come up with then we wanted to go
36:07for casserole and it had to be gourmet and you know we ensured we wanted the best quality ingredients and
36:12what was the name it's called gourmet scot pot so then everyone knew they were getting a high quality dish
36:18where did you actually go to start selling Parliament Square there was five church services it was you know
36:23going to be quite a busy day on a Solomon Square it was a bit quiet at first so we made a decision we
36:28moved about two o'clock I think it was Laura and Ricky went to Princey Street they came back and informed
36:34me that it was quite busy so we all made a quick move down there obviously we only had a few hours
36:38of selling time left Princey Street that's quite a quite a popular street yes it is once we did move
36:43we did really well we were quite busy how much did you spend you know what you spent total I think we
36:48spent around about 268 pound and 82 pence that's exactly what you spent is exactly so a lot larger
36:54than the guys in the side you really took the quality and gourmet thing seriously did it so you
36:59got one hand here you got the cheapskates over here and you and you spent 200 pounds of the haggis
37:04and the beef all throughout the day my worry was we may have spent too much but I did feel that we
37:10had a quality Scottish gourmet dish hmm well let's let's have a look at it Nick with team Phoenix could
37:23you give me some numbers then yeah well we know that Phoenix spent 90 pounds and 25 pence my sales
37:29totaled 388 29 and that generated a profit of 298 pounds and four pence okay Karen well as you
37:40know sterling spent an awful lot more 268 pounds and 82 pence but I'm pleased to say that they had
37:48sales of 588 pounds and 60 pence which actually generated a profit of 319 pounds and 78 pence 21
38:00pounds difference 22 pounds difference approximately so well done okay risky I gotta tell you when I heard
38:09those numbers you just told me about how much you spent they're very very risky so you must have done
38:13well on the selling side anyway um well done thank you look I'm gonna send you off to a five-star
38:22country club and you're gonna be riding these little Segway machines I don't know if you know what they
38:30are you'll soon find out have a good time and I'll see you on the next house
38:43well if there's one thing you can't cook and that is the books the figures don't lie I need you to go
38:59off I'll see you back in here shortly but we'll go through it in a bit more detail okay thank you
39:13for the girls come on
39:25come on
39:25come on
39:25come on
39:26come on
39:27come on
39:28come on
39:32come on Ricky let's go for it
39:33go go go
39:34girls look out when Nicky's dangerous
39:38Nick what are you doing causing an obstruction Nick but you need lessons
39:49a bit dangerous out there that's true why are you looking worried
39:56well done guys sterling let's keep it that way
40:00cheers
40:08you know you win some you lose some fun things
40:17i don't take any of the blame myself for the failure in this task i think we lost because
40:21of jade and katie really they both told me there was experts in marketing advertising and
40:26they clearly aren't locations the football pitch was a wrong place to go
40:33adam should be fired because he didn't manage this very well there was no clear strategy other than you
40:38know to keep the cost low um and everything was just a bit of a mess the reason we had the second
40:42place is because of the bus thing and then the bus thing fell through we can talk until the cows
40:47come home about why's and what's and if's but we'd have sold five more we would have won the task
40:50and so i'm looking at katie and azar purely on contribution for me those two are in the firing
40:55line big time now
41:08yes could you send the candidates in please yes lord sugar you can go through to the boardroom
41:19now thank you
41:35right i see this as two problems here one is you can't sell and two you went off in the wrong direction
41:44made well a load of cheap stuff with regards to the quality of the food i do believe it was gourmet
41:50i do believe we met the criteria adam adam hold on i've had some pictures shown to me right one of
41:55these meatballs and i've got to tell you i've seen things like that at the zoo in the elephant pen on
42:01the floor so i don't know how you can tell me that is quality stuff you just on this cheap cheap
42:07thing thinking that you're going to make a load of money if we start at the beginning myself steve and
42:13jade fed back a few different things and a lot of our market research that we put forward wasn't
42:18actually taken into consideration i don't know if steve and jade would agree with me it totally was kt
42:22i totally disagree with you that your market research consisted of telling us to go to a football
42:26ground whose idea was it to go to the football let's talk let's talk about the football location first
42:31to be honest i was i championed that on what basis football you know i i go to football games it's
42:37six pound a burger i thought that six pound a burger where'd you go chelsea had you gone to
42:42the football ground and sold it for two pound fifty a portion you might have sold hundreds of portions
42:47you might have made some more money five pound 99 at a football match we did drop out of the question
42:53lord sugar my um research team came back to me with 8.99 that's all i heard how many football games
42:58you've been to in your life well this is why i priced that 5.99 you don't need a research team
43:02to tell you that you know that a burger or a football match you don't need research buddy you
43:07need four quid for a burger that's what you're spending tell the truth our football game it
43:11doesn't take einstein to work out that these lads walking past not paying for how you can stand on
43:14the stall in the middle of edward selling to the rangers fans first i've heard of it first you've heard
43:18of it first i've heard of it from you i dropped a 3.99 free for a tenner because you realize mate i
43:22realized we've been five minutes but as a research group as a research group you was in charge of kt and jade
43:28the other problem was the kickoff is half 12 so we lost the crucial dinner time trade
43:33through leaving the football pitch to setting up at the next pitch this out of interest as a
43:37project manager would you not have looked at thought actually for that hour and a half
43:41we'll be losing all the lunch and trade i'm going to decide not to do that i couldn't have done
43:45absolutely everything you know you're a marketing expert i put you in charge of marketing and
43:48promotion that's where you told me your qualities were that's where i put you steve was managing you
43:53katie you've been marketing as well then your second location afterwards um you went to grass
44:00market the reason we we put forward the idea of a grass market was because steven struck up a great
44:06deal with the tour operators yes indeed so i spoke to a gentleman called kenny lovely guy and he he
44:11drew up a partnership with us to utilize his bus so we could actually pitch on the top deck of the bus
44:16we thought that there'd be buses coming every 15 minutes well what happened for us i'm not a man to
44:20to carry on things if it's not working i quickly made a decision i said adam well i'm actually going
44:23to go out and sell at the front and i've done that for the remainder of the afternoon my absolute
44:26heart attack was you selling azar what was you doing you're very quiet there are you deliberating
44:30over something no i'm not um i was i was selling as well i think throughout the day there was
44:35there's a number of issues which point out obviously the first one obviously being the product itself
44:39i wish i could be in adam's shoes right now because as i'm sitting next to him and i have to be honest
44:42and adam you're gearing all your your actual energy towards people who have really
44:46contributed in a many in a big big way you're missing a trick you're missing a big big trick
44:51but as i'm sitting there you're sitting as quiet as a mouse beside you i think you're confused no
44:54not at all and dad you have been very quiet i don't think so i think i did point out put some
44:59decent product in there and set the right price but you said no cheapest chips cheapest chips and
45:03that's what we did that's essentially what we went for in price i think i think the second pitch
45:07location is getting off lightly the sub team strategize i understand their strategy their strategy was
45:11we've made a deal with the bus company people get off the bus they buy the food unfortunately that did not
45:14happen therefore we had to rely on the footfall that was there which wasn't big enough for us
45:18to sell if i may just just to bring a little bit of sanity to the situation you're hearing a lot of
45:22objections here for the first time i can assure you of that in terms of location grass market all the
45:26rest of it this is the first time we've heard of it i don't know if it's if it's caused the steam in
45:30that their mobile unit was getting to your head or something tom but that's the first i've heard it
45:33from i told you that first i've heard a lot of this we're going back to right to the start
45:37why do you lie so much about this table why do you lie so much about this table i don't understand what you're
45:41talking about right jade where does the where's the failure of this task where's it lay the failure
45:46of this task lays in the fact that we went to the football in the morning it then we then moved over
45:51lunch time and then we got to the second position where we're meant to have people arriving all the
45:56time and everyone had had their lunch so where's the fault line who with so unfortunately either
46:03katie steven or is up steven simple food the quality was nowhere near enough to sell it in gourmet
46:10um style that's a bottom line and the location of the football which i've argued with katie so for
46:14me katie and azar without a shadow of a doubt contribution from azar was nil i think i think
46:19you've got a clever way of deflecting information i've been asked a question by lord sugar and asked
46:22it i've been asked the simple questions you had your opportunity you were clever deflecting it away from
46:26it's not about being clever azar but the point is you would i be clever i didn't include you in my
46:29summary were you responsible for the second pitch yes or no based around the clever idea i came to that
46:33logical decision stop blaming nobody else yes or no based on yes or no no i'm not going to answer the
46:38question you see that's you deflect it you don't take responsibility at least if i make a mistake
46:41i admit it you if you make a mistake you pass it on to somebody else that's your that's your issue
46:46whereas i make a mistake i'll put it in blunt i was responsible for the grass market based on
46:51logical decision but unfortunately to defend adam here your contribution was zero you made a mistake
46:56on the picture second location so it's all just for those different information my word adam you were
47:01the project manager yeah so who are you bringing back in i'll have to bring in katie and
47:13it's jade or azar unfortunately um
47:19azar you've just made you've let me down you know you didn't you didn't do out and jade you
47:24you're you're you're an advertiser you're a marketer this is what you do that's why i did work hard
47:30to your work hard well everyone worked hard but unfortunately
47:41i'll have to bring in katie and azar right okay um the other three of you go back to the house
47:50i'll see you on the next task
48:03i'm gonna have a chat now with nick and karen
48:07step outside and um come back in shortly one of you will definitely be leaving the process today okay
48:19well adam um i think he lost control of the task really i don't know what he thought he was doing
48:30he's spent a lot of time in this boardroom talking about my team that i allowed to make decisions on
48:37marketing and all that stuff and conveniently deflected away from the fact that he made cheap cheap rubbish
48:44really the thing is about katie she has made some bad calls here and has heavily influenced
48:54i think the failure of this task but she drove the football thing completely wrong
49:00you know he's he's very very quiet azar he's very quiet you don't know you know whether he's really
49:05got a good business brain on him or whether he's playing a game well this time he's at it because
49:11he's back in this boardroom and he's gonna have to speak up for himself
49:20yes lord sugar you can see lord sugar now
49:24well adam yes um i've looked carefully at your application yep you know you are you know a very
49:49hard worker uh in the sense that you run your own or market store yeah yeah it's quite a big operation
49:55each uh wholesale and retail right established 13 years i've got more experience in business than every
50:00candidate yeah okay sorry okay all right the thing is you've heard the expression leopard changing its
50:08spots yeah i believe that one of the problems of this task was that you your market trader mentality
50:15kicked in keep the cost right down and make something very very simple and flog it for a
50:20load of money well i wouldn't i wouldn't say that really to be honest with you as a market trader i
50:25don't buy cheap and and sell every day you know i sell a quality products at a good price i want
50:29everyone to make money in the chain and i do you know lord sugar i believe i'm the best salesman
50:35in the whole process i believe in the best negotiator i'm the type of guy you could go into business with
50:38them you know we didn't you didn't deliver on this project you didn't take control you didn't do
50:42anything you let yourself down because you had no input whatsoever at the end of the day are
50:45responsible for the divisions that other people make within your team yeah of course so adam adam adam
50:50adam do you think you're out of your depth in this process i think you're out of your depth
50:55i think he's out of his depth i've got like five times more business experience it's not fine but you're
50:58out of your depth in this process not at all you can have a hundred times you have more experience
51:01but it's still out of your depth in this process i'm your own one candidate and i say that with the
51:04backup hope for it of what you've seen why you might what why explain to me why because i know
51:09what i'm doing you have to babysit i don't know what you're doing you're completely out of control
51:13you didn't even know what was going on in all fairness in adam's defense um he heavily relies on
51:18steve to make all the decisions for him i think so if he's not with steve uh you want to want to
51:23do anything within a task i think he passed a lot of responsibility over to steve he made decisions
51:27he was partly responsible for the failure of the task do you recognize something in steve then where he's
51:31got more brain power than you or what not at all no not at all i think steve's got certain qualities
51:36who's responsible then out these out at you three unfortunately the more responsibility lies with
51:41katie that's because she's a researcher and she didn't research on day two when it came to sales
51:46without me being katie what made they upgrade the task unfortunately a loss but the sales on day two
51:51that yeah this marketing strategy went down the pan the brandy went down the pan everything went down
51:56there the name went down the park yourself katie disappeared on day two in the afternoon i was
52:00running around everywhere you disappeared because i brought plenty of people down steven brought plenty
52:04people down on day one you did nothing day two in the morning you didn't do anything untrue adam you
52:09always said you wanted to do this with your head held high and i'm being honest i was dressed as a pizza
52:14running around that place getting people in there i struggle to communicate with you because you
52:19listen to who you want to listen to but you know what was it you were communicating you chose the
52:24football ground you were instrumental uh together with steven um over this uh grass market position
52:31you were instrumental in the brand name the idea was that we kept it really simple some of the
52:35highest brands out there all of this you're not getting it are you you know fine i mean it just
52:41as a as a tell me um why i should let you stay in this process i'm committed i'm driven i'm hard
52:49working you know i started a business completely organically with two and a half thousand pound redundancy
52:53package and grew it into a successful organization you know i've pretty much worked 365 days a year
52:59i literally do not stop working and i've got 100 commitment what i do and i think in terms of being
53:03your business partner i've got the skill set to be able to add a lot of value why should i let you
53:08stay here adam oh sugar be perfect as your business partner i'm really hard work simple words could
53:14give me something better than that please keep me in this process i'll show you what i've got
53:18i'm hard working i've already given you the job i made you the product man yeah it was good of you
53:22to ask me to step up to the market i appreciate the opportunity i've done as well as i can and you
53:27know i'm here to do even better i just want the opportunity to show you i want katie i feel like
53:32i've been scapegoated ever slightly because i was in the boardroom from the very beginning there was
53:36i have had a bit of an uphill battle to obviously convince people but i have been a key part of every
53:42single task since since the first boardroom i always come up with good ideas in my own career you know i'm all
53:48about researching developing products i've got so much to offer you i'm intelligent i'm really good
53:53i've got great people skills and you know honestly i just feel like i've got so much more to give i
53:58really really do okay listen i think i've heard enough from uh all three of you
54:05um as i i've expressed my um opinion about you not speaking up you've certainly come out of your shell a
54:15little bit here today and what you do say actually makes a bit of sense compared to some other people
54:24adam you you're certainly an enthusiastic person but there are at least two or three big errors been
54:32made on on on this task and you were supposed to be the team leader and you let other people
54:37drag you down okay um katie he listened to you um and one could argue that's his problem for listening
54:50to you but the information you gave him was wrong i gave him lots of lots i'm the one here anymore
54:58adam i don't know if you're out of your depth here i'm sure you're a very hard worker i know that
55:17you've got a good business going yeah um i'm going to give you one more chance to stay in this
55:30process thank you larger because i hope you're going to learn now to assert your authority absolutely
55:36properly okay katie i'm afraid to say that um having been in this position a third time uh i'm not
55:48convinced and so katie you're fired you you got away with it you know on the borderline here i
56:10understand that larger all right off to the house see on the next task good luck to see
56:40i do feel absolutely robbed i believe that adam should have been fired he made a complete mess of
56:53this task but the decision has been made the plan was to make lord sugar a lot of money but it looks
56:58like i'm going to have to go off and do that by myself lord sugar made a big point about being gourmet
57:06literally i was fighting about all the way through that first day to bring him in being like mate you
57:10can't you can't be putting these ingredients so that's the problem
57:19this is just how it happened yeah
57:27oh my god well done adam tell us what happened well he said adam was that far off
57:33yeah literally that's how close he is and obviously you also got a very stern warning
57:37as well my words of wisdom were i should speak up more and essentially that's that's as he left
57:42and that's all i said to you mate to be fair you know but the bottom line is um adam was after being
57:46back i didn't think you were when i was dreading it i thought kate would be coming back so i'm really
57:49pleased you're back buddy and we move on yeah
57:55in the fight for lord sugar's quarter million pound investment
57:59ten candidates remain next time this task is all about smelling what's selling extractable extendable
58:10blue super mop sniff out sales in essex two pound ago now cost price let's clear them as much money as
58:17we can straight into town they want that tan as soon as they can that doesn't seem to be any strategy
58:22or face a stink in the boardroom he didn't learn what was selling it was a bad decision you're fired
58:36katie gets into the meat of it all in the apprentice you're fired over on bbc2
58:41and on the bbc hd channel now
