03:09the boardroom
03:12midnight
03:23the boardroom
03:24Yes, Orchuga, you can go through to the boardroom now.
03:54Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to my boardroom.
04:07One of you is going to get the £250,000 investment in a 50-50 business with me.
04:14Now, in this climate, people like you that have the seed of a business idea
04:19find it very difficult engaging with banks and financial services.
04:25Those people, quite rightly so, will not lend you any money to start up a new business
04:30because they're looking for collateral, they're looking for assets.
04:34So this is an unbelievable opportunity
04:36because I'll tell you where the collateral and the assets are for me.
04:41They're here with you.
04:43You are the collateral and you are the asset.
04:47As you can see, I've got a pile of CVs here.
04:49It's full of the usual BS.
04:52You know, I'll give 110%, I'm the greatest entrepreneur since sliced bread,
04:57failure's not an option, I think outside the box, inside the bleeding box,
05:01all those usual clichés.
05:03I'm sick and tired of all that bloody rubbish, to be perfectly honest with you.
05:06Because I believe actions speak louder than words.
05:10And it's going to be actions that I'm going to judge you on.
05:15Now, the aim of this process is to get your business plans in front of me.
05:20The tasks are there to test you and take you through every facet in business.
05:26But in the meantime, we'll have a little chat now about some of your business ideas.
05:30Neil, what's your deal?
05:32My business is a unique online estate agency business.
05:37Estate agency?
05:38That's right.
05:39Miles, I've got a comment in here from you.
05:43You say estate agents are tossers.
05:46I'd like to point out I'm not actually an estate agent.
05:49That's the business plan.
05:51I've come here with one objective, that's to win, and that's what I'm going to do.
05:55Jazz?
05:56Lord Sugar?
05:57My business idea is for an online learning platform to eradicate low levels of literacy.
06:03OK.
06:04Leah?
06:04Hello.
06:05I understand we have a doctor in the house, is that right?
06:08Yeah.
06:08Could come in handy, because I've got a bloke over there who thinks he's Napoleon.
06:11You know what happened to Napoleon, don't you?
06:14Yes, I do.
06:15Yeah.
06:15You can consider me as the Duke of Wellington, actually, in this process.
06:19Jason, you've never had a full-time job, is that right?
06:22You've been a student the whole of your life.
06:24I've been studying, certainly, the whole of my life.
06:27Studying Greek mythology, is that right?
06:29Greek modern history, in fact.
06:30Quite appropriate, really, Jason, as a hero of the Greeks.
06:33He was the one that went off to get the golden fleece, wasn't he?
06:35Indeed he did, yeah.
06:36Well, the golden fleece here is the £250,000.
06:39I hope to live up to my mythological namesake.
06:42OK.
06:44Let's move on.
06:44Let me tell you about the first task.
06:49I've got you two shipping containers in the port of Tilbury in Essex,
06:54and they're full of imported products.
06:58You lot are going to be working through the night.
07:01You have to start selling to the various trades
07:04that open up in this great metropolis of London,
07:07and other trades that start to open up as the day goes by,
07:11because by 4 o'clock, all bets are off.
07:13It's finished.
07:15And the team that sells the most amount of goods will win,
07:19and the team that loses, one of you, will be fired.
07:24Here's a curveball I'm going to send you right now.
07:27Ladies, who's going to be the project manager on this task?
07:31Yes, I am.
07:33Very brave.
07:34Very brave indeed.
07:35I'm just really enthusiastic, and I'm good at motivating people.
07:40You're on.
07:41Gentlemen.
07:42I'll do it.
07:45Really?
07:46If somebody else wants to volunteer,
07:48if they've got the fire and the drive,
07:50do it.
07:51OK.
07:52All right, Jason.
07:54Now, Karen, of course, needs no introduction to you,
07:59and neither does Nick.
08:01They will be reporting to me everything that goes on.
08:04They do not miss a trick.
08:08Right, everything clear?
08:10Yes, sir.
08:10I'll see you back in this boardroom here at 5 o'clock.
08:13Off you go.
08:21One night and one day to shift a container load of stock.
08:27First, for both teams, get to know their managers.
08:31Jason.
08:32Hi, Jason.
08:33My intelligence is like a machete in the jungle.
08:35It's just going to take one swipe, and I'll be through.
08:39The reason why I didn't take project manager,
08:41I thought you had some real balls to do that.
08:44What do you do?
08:44I do a bit of this and a bit of that.
08:46If I had my hand up before I'd realised I'd volunteered,
08:51I'd volunteered.
08:52I love being in charge and telling people what to do
08:54and having them do it.
08:55It's my idea of heaven.
08:56I'm not looking to kind of boss people around,
08:58although I will do that.
09:00I'm only bossy if I'm right, which is a lot of the time.
09:04If you're in my way and you're an idiot,
09:06you will be moved aside.
09:08Next, who's who and what they do.
09:11I've got a consumer electronics business,
09:13a cake shop and a baking website.
09:16Wow, successful independent lady over here.
09:19Absolutely.
09:20I've got 14 years sales experience.
09:23I've got 14 years of a proven track record.
09:25I'm from Wales.
09:26Ah.
09:27I am indeed.
09:28I'm from Cardiff, yes.
09:29I started my first company when I was 19 years old
09:32from a garage in the Welsh Valleys.
09:34I'm moving on to bigger and better things.
09:36Has anyone ever said you look like anyone?
09:38Er, I sometimes get Freddie Mercury.
09:40Dracula.
09:41Dracula!
09:43Yeah, yeah, yeah.
09:45Introduction's over.
09:47Both teams need a name.
09:48How about something explosive?
09:50How about asteroid?
09:51Asteroid.
09:52And it's not girly either.
09:54Alchemy, no.
09:55I'm not going to lie, I have no idea what that means.
09:58It reminds me of chemistry.
09:59I thought of evolve because I think we're evolve together as a team, grow as a team.
10:05I like evolve.
10:06Done, boom, move on.
10:07Endeavour to try.
10:09I go with Endeavour and we keep it simple.
10:12Endeavour, I like it.
10:13I mean, we all definitely want to win, but it's not always going to happen.
10:172.15am, Essex, the port of Tilbury.
10:32I've lived in London most of my life.
10:35I've never really gone down the docks before.
10:38Destination for up to 1,500 containers a day, tonight, two will be opened.
10:43Oh, my gosh, it's so exciting.
10:45I wonder what's in the container.
10:47One for each team, stacked with identical imports.
10:52I think it's like going into Aladdin's cave.
10:57Oh.
10:58From novelties with niche markets...
11:01They're Chinese little waving cats.
11:04They're lucky charms.
11:06..to bog-standard commodities.
11:08Toilet rolls.
11:09Boat roll.
11:1043 cases of water.
11:12Water will go.
11:13These jackets are amazing.
11:14They're going to sell.
11:15OK, girls, are we ready?
11:17Yeah.
11:17First task for the teams, take stock of what they've got.
11:22Water.
11:23Yeah.
11:24Toilet rolls.
11:24Cool.
11:25Cat litter, bubble wrap, leather jackets,
11:28mugs with Julian Jackson and China cats.
11:32Cool.
11:33Next, a lesson in leadership from education entrepreneur Jazz.
11:37As team leader, what do you expect from me?
11:40Can I just ask that question?
11:42What are you expecting?
11:43What do you expect from me?
11:43What do you expect from me?
11:44What do you expect from me?
11:45Delegation.
11:46Delegation.
11:47Delegation.
11:48Delegation.
11:49Clear direction.
11:50Just to listen to us as well.
11:51Listen.
11:52So, if I promise to do that for you, can you tell me what I can expect from you?
11:56Jazz has been giving us lots of motivational speeches, high energy, lots of enthusiasm.
12:02Well done, team evolve.
12:03Well done, team evolve.
12:04There's on the wall.
12:06I think it's a bit of patronising us, but I think she is a teacher and it definitely
12:09shows.
12:10Hey, well done on the name.
12:11Evolve.
12:12Let's evolve.
12:13So, I did identify that you'd be quite good at leading a sub team if you're happy with
12:18that.
12:19Yeah.
12:20Quiet, quiet, quiet.
12:21People we have.
12:22People.
12:23Because I keep getting drowned out when I'm trying to talk about the fight.
12:25Endeavouring to lead the boys.
12:26Guys, guys, guys, guys.
12:27It's not just a margin.
12:28Jason, you need to control this as a project manager.
12:31Listen.
12:32So, listen.
12:33Project manager, Jason.
12:34Toilet roll.
12:35I like that.
12:36No, I like it because it might be so easy.
12:37Yeah, I think you're right.
12:38I think you're right.
12:39Is this a good product?
12:40What's the cat litter?
12:41Let's look at what we can sell.
12:43That'll sell, won't you?
12:44So, so, thoughts to yourselves.
12:46Thoughts to yourselves.
12:47The boys are a really vocal group.
12:49They're very strong characters.
12:51I feel for Jason.
12:52Whoa.
12:53The vocal volume is slow.
12:54Guys, guys, guys.
12:55Guys, guys, guys.
12:56Guys.
12:57It's going to be a very, very long night.
12:59Can you appoint the leader of this team?
13:01And then I think Neil.
13:02Yes, I'll take it.
13:03Fine.
13:04There's some key things here.
13:05Cat litter is something that we can sell in bulk.
13:08Jason's made me a leader of a mini team already.
13:11I think that says a lot about who the real leader is here.
13:14High-vis jacket.
13:16Okay.
13:17And then we've got the water.
13:18Brilliant.
13:19Mike, you don't split those bags, girls.
13:22You've got me on three.
13:23How much more down there?
13:274.30am.
13:30London.
13:31What have we got to sell and where can we sell it?
13:36Open for business 24-7.
13:38We were hoping to come and see you this morning.
13:40We've got some really interesting products that we'd like to show to you.
13:43Get the right stock to the right people and money can be made.
13:47We're going to target the south-east first.
13:49Okay.
13:50And then we're going to come back towards the north-west of London.
13:52Matching jobs to the girls.
13:54We've both ascertained you're quite strong in sales, okay?
13:58Moving on then.
13:59The medic, Dr Leah.
14:01You're in charge of thinking about our location, so if you start thinking about where we're
14:06going to offload the water, it's going to be about the water primarily.
14:09Yeah.
14:10Okay?
14:11Yeah.
14:12Are you used to selling to trade?
14:13I've won lots of awards for selling the most, so I always come out top.
14:16Okay.
14:17Pushing to pitch first, sales rep Rebecca.
14:20I just want to build a bit of...
14:22I just want to...
14:23Hang on.
14:24I'm talking.
14:25I'm a pretty tough person.
14:26I don't let people walk all over me in life or in business.
14:29Cool, calm and collected.
14:31And if somebody crosses me, well, it's game over.
14:35At Smithfield Meat Market, an all-night pub.
14:40Sorry, just for the guide to the price.
14:42Listen.
14:43I've got...
14:44I know what we're doing.
14:45Sorry, I'm with us just at this moment.
14:48We've got some products to buy in bulk.
14:52One of them is water.
14:54Let's do water.
14:55Okay, so it's French mineral water.
14:57I presume you probably sell quite a bit of that.
14:59Don't do that much.
15:00Probably a couple of cases a week.
15:02Okay.
15:03Okay, I'm fully hearing you on that.
15:05We want to give you a really good offer.
15:07So, okay, so we're looking at two cases.
15:09We're looking at, um, £15.
15:12Could live with that, yeah?
15:14Yeah?
15:15Yeah.
15:16Thank you so much for your time today.
15:18For the girls, first sale of the day at £15.
15:22That was not great.
15:24I don't think there was enough of a push to get the bulk sale
15:27and it'd be Rebecca wasn't the right person to do the pitch.
15:30Now we're left with a lot of water to shift.
15:34Across town, in charge of half the boys, Neil.
15:38We want to go in there and we want to try and shift all 40 cases.
15:42Okay.
15:43Out to wash his hands of their water in one go.
15:45Before we do it, are we happy?
15:47Yeah.
15:48First stop, a coach company.
15:51Good morning to you.
15:52Good morning.
15:53Good morning to you.
15:54We're going to use lots of water.
15:55Well, that's great because I've got lots of water to sell.
15:58Brokering the boys' bulk deal.
16:00Company director, Alex.
16:02Now, if I was going to be selling you £100, they'd be about £30 each.
16:06But I can give you the 1920 bottles that I've got outside for you.
16:10I'll give them for you for 15p.
16:13I'd like to be about £10.
16:17I said £15, you said £10.
16:19Yeah.
16:22It's hard for me.
16:23It really, really is.
16:24Not as hard as it is for me.
16:27Tell me where we go.
16:29You can see my list.
16:30Okay.
16:31That's what we buy it for in bulk.
16:3212p.
16:33Oh.
16:35If there's a pallet and a half...
16:36I'll give you 1920 bottles then for 12p.
16:39Right.
16:40Per bottle.
16:41Done.
16:42That's fine.
16:43Banked before breakfast, £230.
16:46That went absolutely excellent.
16:48All the water's gone.
16:50In hindsight, I think I probably gave it up a little bit too easy.
16:54For the boys, no more liquid assets.
16:57Let's do a high five.
16:58Really?
17:03Sunrise.
17:09Look, we've got lucky cats for your lucky punters.
17:12It's a quality product, but we do have only the one day.
17:16Taking a gamble with their lucky cats, Jason's Boys.
17:21It's perfect for a casino.
17:22This is built for it.
17:23If they buy the whole lot, the whole 50, push it to six.
17:31We're very, very glad to be here, this exceptional establishment.
17:35I hope that you'll feel the same about the products which we have...
17:38Okay.
17:39I'm intrigued.
17:40...on offer to you.
17:41This is called the lucky cat.
17:42Very relevant for your establishment.
17:45It's a lucky charm.
17:46Okay.
17:47The retail price on those is £12.
17:49But we've...
17:50Okay.
17:51Yeah.
17:52And we can let you have them for £6 each.
17:54Those are the tons, more or less.
17:55Okay.
17:56They're very thin, plastic.
17:58£6 for an object like this.
18:00I think that would be unreasonable.
18:03What kind of value do you see it having?
18:06It's probably something sort of two or three pounds, I reckon.
18:09As the cat falls flat...
18:11One thing that we can do for you is to get batteries.
18:14Miles puts power into the pitch.
18:17I'd be happy to take the lot at £3.
18:20£3.50 with the batteries.
18:23£3.25.
18:25Fantastic.
18:26Thank you very much.
18:27I think Miles was really keen to get a sale on his own name,
18:31just to cover his back with Lord Sugar.
18:33I know there's somewhere around where we can get batteries,
18:35so we need to do that quickly, get in there, close it out and then crack on.
18:39It seems a bit gung-ho, maybe a little bit naive.
18:44Whatever it costs, we need to just take this hit and get on with it.
18:47It's a hit in both time and money.
18:49Exactly.
18:528.45am.
18:53Look at all these people on their way to work.
18:55I know.
18:56Don't they realise that some people have been working or not?
18:58I don't know where we're going to sell the cats.
19:01Taking a clue from the cat...
19:04What would it be called?
19:05A Chinese tourist shop.
19:08..a destination dawns.
19:11Chinatown.
19:12Just drop us at the gate to Chinatown.
19:14Yeah, we're going to the gate to Chinatown.
19:15Girls, I'm feeling positive.
19:16Come on.
19:17Come on.
19:18Hey, this is good.
19:19Here's the entry on the right here.
19:20Yes.
19:23Nothing's open.
19:24Nothing in Chinatown looks closed.
19:25Look at that supermarket.
19:26It's shut.
19:27Oh, my goodness.
19:29Is it a Chinese holiday?
19:31None of the supermarkets are open here.
19:33Hold on, hold on, hold on.
19:34It might not open till 10.
19:35It might not open till 10.
19:36Girls, let's just so hope we'll come back.
19:37Can we talk?
19:38Yeah.
19:44Farringdon.
19:46With most of their water still on board,
19:48the rest of the girls, with business owner Louisa.
19:52I don't want to faff round, spend an hour here
19:54to sell two cases of water again.
19:56I just think we need to sell it in bulk.
19:58People look at me and they assume I'm just a bimbo.
20:02I've got fake hair, fake nails, fake boobs,
20:04but I have a really good business brain
20:06and I love blowing their assumptions to smithereens.
20:09I'm the person who knows the most about the costs.
20:11I should do the next sale.
20:12I do this every day.
20:13I run three businesses, all of which are sales.
20:15It's huge.
20:16No offence, you're a doctor.
20:17How dare you?
20:18You cannot possibly say that.
20:19Can't possibly say that.
20:20We've agreed that I was going to do this,
20:21so I should do it, to be honest.
20:23I really don't think you should.
20:24Why not?
20:25Because I think I'll be better.
20:26Why do you think you'll be better?
20:28Because I know the figures.
20:29Do you know the figures?
20:30Well, you just told me you got them written down,
20:31so what I have to do is look at them.
20:32And you'll memorise them in that time?
20:34Yeah, I think I can memorise a few figures.
20:36Okay.
20:37Thirsty for the sale, Louisa goes for a chain of American diners.
20:42Hey, how are you doing?
20:43What's your name?
20:44Yes, Sahel.
20:45Sahel, hi.
20:46I'm wondering if we could sit down and have a quick chat
20:47with you about some stuff that we've got you might be interested in.
20:49Yes, yes.
20:50Yeah?
20:51Oxford Street.
20:56Still searching for somewhere to sell their novelties, Jazzy's half of the girls.
21:01I'm thinking, you see, like, these little shops down here that sell, you know, touristy stuff?
21:06What about Kingdom of souvenirs?
21:08We tried, though.
21:09Did we?
21:10Yeah.
21:11Yeah.
21:12Did we try that?
21:14Yeah.
21:15Didn't mean to stop jumping around and try and, like...
21:17Yeah, you're right.
21:18I feel like it's going a little bit into disarray now.
21:21Go, go, go.
21:22Oh, sorry.
21:23Wait there.
21:24I just feel like it's going to be a kamikaze and a bit crazy at the moment.
21:27Girls?
21:28Yes?
21:29On the left.
21:30Hi.
21:31Listen, we're looking at your shop and we're thinking, you know,
21:33you sell the sort of stuff that we're looking at.
21:35We've actually got some Union Jack mugs.
21:37We've got 150 of these.
21:39We're really looking at, you know, £1.50.
21:42Yeah.
21:43So we've got these.
21:44Have a think.
21:45We've also got some really stunning...
21:46We've also got a lovely leather jacket.
21:48Oh, that's nice.
21:49We've only got ten of these left.
21:51OK, so how many would you think you would like to take?
21:54I have no idea.
21:56All of them.
21:57OK.
21:58I think that's a hug.
21:59Thank you so much.
22:00Can I take a hug?
22:01Yes.
22:02Have one.
22:03And now we have to call my boss.
22:04We thought that you had the authority to buy, so...
22:07Oh, no!
22:08First rule is check you're speaking to the decision maker.
22:13Right, move on.
22:14We've got to do this.
22:15Keep going.
22:16Thanks very much.
22:17Bye-bye.
22:18Jazz is the project manager.
22:20She shot her hand up and she got it.
22:23Has she shown any sort of real leadership?
22:26Not really.
22:27They're wandering about.
22:28Shall we try this shop?
22:29Shall we try that shop?
22:30Pleasant woman.
22:31But actually, this is business.
22:33We don't need to look or smell desperate.
22:35No.
22:36Because that's not going to help us.
22:37No.
22:38So, big smiles!
22:39Showtime!
22:40Back at the diner, a done deal.
22:47In bulk.
22:48280 for everything.
22:50Great to do business with you.
22:51Happy very much.
22:52For £50 more than the boys.
22:54We're doing all right.
22:55We've just managed to sell all the water.
22:58Yes!
22:59We're done!
23:00We are doing the lucky cat wave.
23:01We're doing the lucky cat.
23:08Mid-morning.
23:09Batteries out, boys.
23:11Slotted into that cat.
23:12Let's not waste time.
23:14The casino car park.
23:16It's taken us most of the morning.
23:18We've definitely lost an hour and a half.
23:20More.
23:21Two hours.
23:22More.
23:23Re-boxed and powered up.
23:25Oh, you've put the batteries in?
23:26Indeed.
23:27Correct.
23:28Didn't expect such good service, but thank you very much.
23:30It's £160 for the boys.
23:33And bye-bye, cats.
23:36We need to take the lessons which we've learnt from the cat catastrophe forward.
23:43Lunchtime.
23:45For both teams, a push for sales.
23:48I really appreciate your time.
23:49Thank you for that.
23:50Bye.
23:51OK, next.
23:52We've just had some imported stock sent into our docks this morning.
23:55I've actually got some leftover toilet roll.
23:57Yeah, no, I was going to say, look, it's all clean.
24:00It's all freshly packaged.
24:01It's not reused or anything like that.
24:03What I'm wondering is the strategy for when we go into these clothes shops, do we want to carry the ukulele and the mug and sort of seem like purveyors of tat?
24:17I would rather you stay discreetly behind.
24:20And we show them the fact that it is genuine leather.
24:23And the lining, the lining is what?
24:25Polyester lining.
24:26OK.
24:27Silky.
24:28Silky, silky.
24:29Silky touch.
24:30Oh!
24:31It is a nice fit, isn't it, Francesca?
24:36Yeah, they're quite nice.
24:37With another sale under their belt.
24:39One for £40, two for £35.
24:41OK.
24:42Next for the girls, 41 bags of cat litter.
24:45We need to figure out where we're going to sell it.
24:48Looking for likely buyers, cosmetics entrepreneur, Usman.
24:52Try this one.
24:530207.
24:54Pets at home.
24:56Pets in the city.
24:58We've got lots and lots of cat litter.
25:00We're wondering if the mutts and nuts would be interested in taking a look at.
25:04Sorry, we're not interested.
25:06Hi, guys.
25:07We've still got the cat litter.
25:09So if you can make one appointment with Battersea Dogs Home and get down there,
25:14because you've got a lot of cat litter.
25:16Battersea's too far.
25:17We can't go there.
25:18I know it's a trek.
25:19There's two pet shops here as well.
25:22Just call Battersea and ask them if they're interested.
25:33We've actually imported some cat litter today in very high quantity and at some very competitive prices.
25:38OK, that's fine.
25:39Shall I book you an appointment?
25:40Bye-bye.
25:41Bloody smooth.
25:42Let's go.
25:43We've got the appointment.
25:44Let's do it.
25:45Has anyone here got a cat?
25:46If I'm honest, I absolutely despise cats.
25:53Hi.
25:54I'm Neil from Endeavour.
25:55Hi, Neil.
25:56The three kittens.
25:57They're absolutely beautiful.
25:59Here to turn cat litter into cash, the boys.
26:03I'm going to pass you over to Z, who's going to take you through exactly what we want to try and do for you.
26:07OK.
26:08And then we can take you from there.
26:09OK, I love it.
26:10Thank you very much.
26:12I think 41 bags of this.
26:13Sixteen litre these are.
26:14Simply clean, simply arriveder and one of the best qualities on the market.
26:18Do you have any idea what you could give it to us for?
26:20Without us trying to insult you.
26:21Eight pounds.
26:22For eight pounds.
26:23I couldn't go anywhere near the kind of prices that you're currently saying, around about eight pounds.
26:27Can we have a quick minute then and we'll come back to you in a second?
26:29Of course.
26:33We need to make the sale.
26:34OK.
26:35Where else?
26:36One second.
26:37No, one second.
26:38What's the contingency?
26:39You tell me where we're going to go if we don't sell this now.
26:41Z was leading the negotiation, but you wouldn't have guessed it with Neil in the background.
26:45If you give me it for five quid a bag, I'll take the lot.
26:49Whoa, whoa, one second.
26:50No.
26:51It's quite a low price.
26:52Exactly.
26:53He's a real backseat driver.
26:56Let's meet in the middle, 520, and shake your hand on that.
27:01OK.
27:02I think that's a good deal.
27:03Are you going to shake his hand or am I?
27:05I wanted both of you one by one.
27:06Thank you very much.
27:07Good deal.
27:08Good deal.
27:09Excellent, thank you.
27:10Thank you very much.
27:11For 213 pounds, a job lot of cat litter scratched off.
27:15I've realised it's a bit of a dog-eat-dog world here, and I'm going to put my foot down a little bit.
27:21We're doing pretty well.
27:22In fact, we're doing really well.
27:24All we need to sell is the high-vis jackets.
27:28Let me speak to them.
27:29It's all right, guys.
27:30I need to speak to them.
27:31Do you not understand that?
27:32I said about seven times later.
27:33Listen.
27:34What do you want to say?
27:35I said it seven times.
27:36I want to tell them where to sell those jackets.
27:37See, see, listen to me.
27:38Why are you showing them?
27:39Because I said something seven times.
27:40All right, well, here's the eighth time.
27:41Ring them back.
27:42They're here.
27:43Hello.
27:44Ukulele's a key.
27:45We need to sell those.
27:46Yeah.
27:47Ukulele's and the jacket.
27:49For Jason's half of the boys, three product lines left to push.
27:53We need to get rid of these as well.
27:55Everywhere we go, we try to sell everything we have.
28:00Back in Chinatown.
28:04Still stuck with all 50 lucky cats, a second chance for the girls to claw back a sale.
28:10Do you know what?
28:11I'd be good at not to be able to sell a lucky cat in Chinatown.
28:13Right, let's get this.
28:14My only concern is they probably buy these from China at ridiculously cheap prices.
28:20Stepping up to sell, Sophie.
28:22I was wondering if you sold any lucky cats.
28:25Um, lucky cats.
28:27I'm half Chinese myself.
28:28I'm completely superstitious.
28:29I've got one in my house.
28:30Right.
28:31Restaurants buy them.
28:32I have a restaurant myself.
28:33Can I take a look?
28:34It's a busted one.
28:35Yeah.
28:36How much are you selling at?
28:37We're going to sell them for about £5 per unit.
28:40Well, I think that's a bit too much.
28:42Perhaps £4.50.
28:43I know the cost.
28:44Yeah.
28:45These items in China, you know how much are selling.
28:47In China, it's a completely different story.
28:50We're in London.
28:51Everything's more expensive in London.
28:52Can I suggest something?
28:53Yes.
28:54How about if you were going to take maybe, say, ten off us, to start with, at maybe, say, £3.
29:00Why, that's a good idea.
29:03And next time...
29:04Who actually clinched the deal?
29:05Not Sophie.
29:06It was Natalie.
29:07Buy ten.
29:08You can have them at £3 each.
29:10£30.
29:12And they're selling low.
29:13Thank you very much.
29:14Not great.
29:15Be lucky.
29:16Ten sold.
29:17£30 pocketed.
29:18Forty cats still to go.
29:20To be fair, I'm not happy that we did ten for three.
29:22I'm so...
29:23No, we were going to lose it.
29:24And I needed...
29:25You did that.
29:26OK, let's go.
29:27We sold ten units out of 50.
29:30That's quite shocking.
29:31This one?
29:32Is it this one?
29:33Unfortunately, the location that Jazz offered was Chinatown.
29:37This one, not the...
29:38See the one with all the lucky cats outside?
29:44South London.
29:45Who's pitching this?
29:46Me.
29:47I'm leaving this one.
29:48Are you happy with the pricing?
29:49Yeah.
29:50So, £150 we're going to aim for?
29:51Hoping to stand out selling high-vis jackets.
29:54Fast food entrepreneur, Tim.
29:56Hello, are you all right?
29:57Hi, my name's Tim.
29:58Nice for you.
29:59What's your name?
30:00CJ.
30:01CJ.
30:02We've got some of the finest high visibility jacket.
30:04Take a seat.
30:06So, you've got the reflective panels.
30:07OK.
30:08It's completely machine washable.
30:09Yeah.
30:10Obviously reflects the lights.
30:11OK.
30:12We've got it in a variety of sizes.
30:13Yeah.
30:14Are you interested?
30:15If you want to sell at the price that I'm already buying at, then I'm probably...
30:17Which is what, what, like £1?
30:19Yeah.
30:20That's the truth.
30:21If we can meet you somewhere, like, if you can sort of get near our 140 and we can...
30:25Well, 120.
30:26Happy to do 120?
30:27I'm going to do it for you.
30:28Fantastic.
30:29Can I do it at 120?
30:30No problem.
30:31Not a problem.
30:32Fantastic.
30:33Finally sold some products.
30:34Absolutely great.
30:35I thought my chance wasn't going to come this task.
30:36I thought I was always going to be in the background.
30:37It's always someone else's turn to pitch.
30:38And when I'm on the phone, it's always someone else's turn to do the phone calls.
30:41So, it was so good to get in there and show what I'm doing.
30:43You're an empty man there.
30:44Look at that.
30:45That's a good job, team.
30:46Excellent.
30:47Hi, Neil speaking.
30:48Oh, hello, Neil.
30:49Just to let you know, we've done really well on the sales here and we've sold out.
30:53Well done, boys.
30:54Perfect.
30:55Well done.
30:56We've got...
30:57How many jackets?
30:58We've got six.
30:59Six left.
31:00Then we've got lots of ukuleles.
31:01We're still playing catch-up desperately.
31:06If we can shift two tonnes worth of water and they can't even sell ten leather jackets in London.
31:11Do you think he's a good project manager?
31:12I don't think he's a good project manager.
31:13I don't think he's a good project manager, no.
31:14He doesn't have any idea what we've done, what's gone on.
31:16We've had no help from him.
31:18He was not a manager.
31:2040 minutes to go.
31:22We're not going to be able to sell 41 bags of cat litter to one person.
31:27Ring this one.
31:28EN6.
31:29Unable to find a home for their cat litter...
31:32I just think we're flogging a dead horse.
31:34Of course.
31:35...a change of tack from the girls.
31:36Just keep your eyes peeled now.
31:37This is a green and white shop.
31:39They've got boxes, they've got things in crates.
31:41Yeah.
31:42Right, Rebecca.
31:43CoolCom collected.
31:44We've got a fantastic deal on today of some bubble wrap.
31:46We do a little bubble wrap.
31:47What size is a bubble?
31:48Small bubble.
31:49Small bubble.
31:50Small bubble.
31:51We're looking at £33.
31:52You've got no chance.
31:53All right.
31:54OK.
31:55I'll tell you what we're paying at the moment.
31:56£12.49.
31:57What if we match that?
31:58Hang on, hang on.
31:59That is a 75 metre roll though.
32:00£15.
32:01That sounds all right, doesn't it?
32:02Yeah.
32:03Yeah, for ten rolls.
32:04So we have toilet rolls.
32:05We sell a lot of toilet rolls, so that would be very interesting for us, yeah.
32:07Good match.
32:08Price per case at the moment.
32:09Yeah.
32:10Yeah.
32:11Yeah, for ten rolls.
32:12So we have toilet rolls.
32:13Yeah, we sell a lot of toilet rolls, so that would be very interesting for us, yeah.
32:16Good match.
32:17Price per case at £7.20.
32:19Sounds a very good price, yeah.
32:20Done deal?
32:21Happy with 4.30?
32:22Yeah.
32:23At over £400, the biggest sale of the day.
32:27Come on!
32:28When a sale is made, everyone else in the group gets forgotten very quickly, and it's like,
32:33oh, I've made a sale.
32:34Totally redeemed yourself.
32:35It doesn't faze me not to be in the limelight all the time.
32:38You went in and you nailed it, and we're all really proud of you.
32:4630 minutes left.
32:49We're going to run like hell to sell those ukuleles.
32:52How are we doing for time?
32:53Not good.
32:54Run.
32:59Hello.
33:00Hello.
33:01Dot.
33:02I'm Jordan.
33:03They make really good gifts.
33:04They're looking.
33:05It's quite nice from outside.
33:07We could sell it to you.
33:08Let me handle it.
33:10So if we could go to £4.50.
33:13This is expensive.
33:14This is the one thing that we've saved especially for you.
33:20For the entire 40, we can give you it for £6.
33:26Can I just put something risky out there?
33:28Go for it.
33:29And if it's about the cats, don't go for it.
33:32But I'm just saying, right?
33:33I cannot believe you're still talking about cats.
33:35No one's listening to me.
33:37OK.
33:38I mean, we are under a massive time constraint.
33:41We've got 15 seconds, I would say.
33:43Yeah.
33:44OK.
33:45Five for 30.
33:46And you've got a deal.
33:47OK.
33:48Well done.
33:49Well done.
33:50Well then.
33:51Great work, Jordan.
33:52You crack on.
33:53Get back to the boardroom on time.
33:54We don't want to be late.
33:58Trading over.
33:59Time to take stock.
34:02Hi, girls.
34:03What was your total figure of sales?
34:07272.
34:08Woo-hoo!
34:11£270.
34:12That's a joke.
34:13No way on this earth that even if we lose, any of us four are going back into that boardroom.
34:19No way.
34:20And if she even suggests it, I will be on her like a fly on ship.
34:24Could I have some feedback on my project managership-ism?
34:33Jason, he's committed business suicide.
34:35He appointed me as another project manager within the team and we went and blew them away.
34:40There's only so much line taming that a project manager can do, I think.
34:45What a long day.
35:10You can go through to the boardroom now.
35:13You can go through to the boardroom now.
35:15The kinda, the very darkest thing.
35:16Been going to the boardroom now.
35:17Theacak of the camera manager.
35:18The camera manager.
35:19The camera manager.
35:20The camera manager.
35:22The camera manager.
35:24Good morning.
35:25They're are all right now.
35:26Oh, I'm glad you're going to be one of the best out and I'll be right now.
35:27I'm glad you're good to be extension of this.
35:28It's not been a big deal.
35:30Yeah, I've been oh, yeah, I was just a big deal.
35:33It's a big deal.
35:34And now you guys.
35:35How about how will it be?
35:36The half of this close game is not a big deal.
35:37Wait, let's do the best out.
35:38I'm glad you're going to be reading it right now.
35:39So we're not good.
35:40How about how can I make it?
35:41That's good.
35:42good evening well a long day for everyone I think a tough task was never going to be easy
35:54I think I'll start with the ladies team jazz you put yourself forward yeah very very quickly any
36:02regrets no no no regrets I mean it's harder than you think it's going to be but I did lead the team
36:08and the team were brilliant so yeah what was the team name that you chose evolve evolve and how did
36:14that evolve that was my name Louisa yeah okay so how did you find jazz then very motivational at
36:22beginning the day would ask her to be quite decisive and was she decisive she evolved over the day how
36:29was the communication between the two sub teams and we didn't really have that much communication with
36:34her and I feel like I did a lot of the management for our team I think to me Leah was project manager
36:40on this task the merchandise that you took as far as sub teams are concerned did you sell out either
36:47of you we sold out of three of our products so you nearly sold out completely very nearly and what
36:52about your lot we were left with all of the mugs seven leather jackets and 40 lucky cats it's a cat
36:59yeah I know what they are so you still have a lot of stuff left over yeah I think you short-circuited
37:05a little bit there was a bit of a traipse up and down Oxford Street wasn't there oh yeah we went to
37:10a long conversation with Italian Robert didn't you we thought we had done the deal but then found out
37:15that he wasn't the decision-maker the first rule of selling to trade is make sure you're not talking to
37:21the cleaning lady because you end up talking to somebody who turns around in the end says well actually I've
37:26got no authority to buy that's a lesson we learned and then from then on we were asking that's a bit
37:31of naivety really isn't it yeah all right okay I think I've got it all here gentlemen what was the
37:39team name that you chose endeavor so that you attempt that might not work is that right to try
37:44yeah to try and I hope to succeed Jason did you bring in the golden fleece do you think here we put in
37:50a very robust performance I think we all worked well as a team but I understand that Neil you kind
37:58of took it over I'd probably agree with that yeah why did you do that I thought initially there wasn't
38:03that leadership at that stage and and so you touched that out straight away we did he couldn't manage us
38:09if we set off on the task on the wrong foot then it would be much easier to trip over and make a mistake
38:15we didn't sell from the wrong for where was no fault at all exactly critical clear concise instructions
38:22were left out right from the beginning well hang on a minute everyone was trying to speak the only
38:27person we couldn't hear was Jason because he was trying to listen Jason was very quick to nominate
38:32me a team leader of the other team you made my team sold every bit of stock that we had for that
38:37day so I probably should have led the whole time he was actually quite a capable person but as he's
38:42shown here he believes in himself way more than actually everyone else does and it's quite
38:46embarrassing why do you even have to bring it up that it was a threat can I ask you one question
38:49who sold the most stock but it's not a competition we're a team I've had a whole day of this and I've
38:55got to tell you I am very tired of it if I could just please add a note in a minute Alex what do you
39:00want to say well the thing is obviously I mean I've worked with Liam all day and I think that's what
39:04who all day I'm sorry you work with who all day Liam his name's Neil listen oh sorry I'm getting
39:10confused glad you was with him all day oh we were a team sorry yeah I think Neil was very very concerned
39:15about Jason's management style much as he's a charming guy the sales approach that he had during the
39:21entire day it was more bicker of Dibley than it was market trader this sounds complete nightmare at
39:27the moment but let's talk about the product what did you sell in the casino we sold the lucky cats
39:31I heard that all four of you were standing around there putting bloody batteries in lucky cats whose
39:36idea was to give them the batteries then this is milder's idea a lot of time was wasted you're
39:41very quiet Tim what are you doing there you're standing there deliberating no not at all not
39:46at all I was wait waiting to be spoken to wait until I'm speaking to you I'm speaking to you yeah
39:49probably the first time ever I felt like wasn't being able to get my point across everyone was
39:53shouting on top of each other I did keep trying to get my point across but you know when you can't
39:57then that's fine sometimes you can step back so far you can fall over the cliff if you're not
40:01careful well then I thought the way to prove myself in this talk is through sales right and
40:06then what did you do then high-vis jacket the high-vis jacket yeah they must have seen you coming yeah
40:12right well look after all of this tale of woe I'm gonna ask Nick to read out these numbers how did the
40:20the ladies do okay evolve led by jazz project manager her sub team so 270 pounds worth whereas Liz
40:30is sub team will they achieve sales of 839 pounds 30 pence giving a total of 1109 pounds and 30 pence
40:40right okay Karen the same thing about endeavor Jason sub team 324 pounds and 50 pence Neil's sub team 843 40
40:55which means your total is 1167 90 that's 58 pound difference ladies anyway gentlemen you've all had a very
41:10very hard day so what I want you to do now is go back I've got you a luxury house in Hoban this is where all
41:17the barristers and lawyers hang out the famous store Fortnum & Mason bringing their top chef there
41:24who's waiting for you and I'll see you on the next Lord sugar can I just take this point say I've taken
41:30on board your comments and it's going to change at the very start I was struggling I've never experienced
41:36one having do you know I know I know it's a shout out off you go okay thank you right well I think you
41:47lot need to go off and have a chat about what went on so off you go and I'll see you back in this
41:52boardroom tomorrow where we'll go through things in more detail and decide which one of you is going
41:58to be fired okay off you go well the boys absolutely nailed it champagne and caviar that sweet taste of
42:14victory for the winners time to savour the high life very nice neighborhood in the heart of the
42:21capital first glimpse of their London home nice to see Lord sugar's put his hand in his pocket
42:35what is that what is right going through here's to winning boys well look at this oh my my evening
42:44gentlemen oh evening enjoy lovely to see work we began as a team and we end as a team together
42:54well ladies this completely sucks and none of us want to be here especially after more or 50 hours
43:10of wait I don't know what to say I'm sort of disappointed no I don't want to pass the
43:13buck but we sold triple more than triple the amount of stuff that you guys sell we had a
43:19structure in place and a strategy we got on with it Leah had all the figures sorted out everything
43:24I had all the appointments it wasn't like we had toilet rolls that we could go to a pub we could go
43:29to this we could go to that excuse me excuse me excuse me I haven't finished saying it I haven't
43:35finished talking yeah I mean I admire jazz and that she did step forward she put herself out there was
43:48she the right person to do it in hindsight maybe no but she made a good decision and elected me as
43:53sub team manager in terms of a leader jazz was extremely motivational however I don't think jazz
44:01listened to me at all the things I had to say could have made a difference between a win and a loss if
44:08it was my fault the team had lost I'd say it I'd be absolutely honest about it and say this is what I
44:13did wrong but the problem is I didn't do anything wrong my job as leader was to lead and that's what
44:19I did I'm gonna fight like my life depends on it because it does you can go through to the boardroom now
44:43well you've had overnight to consider the events of yesterday jazz right through the gauntlet down
45:05and you jumped in quickly and I'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt that was a brave move it was
45:11brave I was trying to be decisive and I knew that leading was trying to be clever or something I
45:15don't know and having the guts to put your hand up expect then if you need to still get through just
45:20because you were gutsy enough to well thanks about contribution what I was what I knew I'd be able to
45:24do is lead the team through the night jazz people are saying about you that you started off as if this
45:30was like the start of a netball match you know okay girls let's get our act together we're gonna be
45:35positive we're gonna win this thing all these kind of motivational words right which
45:40unfortunately all add up to jack shit I like a lot of facts you know who's my best sellers what's
45:48the products and where we're going let's get on with it that's why I call team leading it was both
45:53Lord sugar it wasn't just a load of comments to say let's get going and obviously with hindsight doing
45:58it again the result will be completely different you know you split up Leah was a team leader did you
46:04have that discussion amongst you or not we did have that discussion we knew exactly what we were doing and any
46:08decision on location where we were selling was made totally by me when you was point a sub team
46:13leader you do expect them to leave because it does sound very bit like I was just sitting down humming a
46:17tune while this was happening take ownership chance that you were the project manager if you really
46:21absolutely I do take ownership but what you need to realize is it was a team task and I'm project
46:27manager I'm not jack-of-all-trades so I have a strategy and then you guys do it we're a team but
46:32jazz I think that I made the strategy I don't think you know you had a strategy and then I implemented it
46:36jazz you were supposed to analyze what products can I sell to certain trades that open up early in
46:44the morning for example why did you go to Chinatown at nine o'clock in the morning yeah that we didn't
46:51know it was going to be closed once we found ourselves there we utilized where we were and went
46:55straight on to Oxford Street but why are you in Chinatown at that time I mean that and do you
46:59actually say even though we had the commodity we had things like water and loo roll they weren't
47:05actually that easy to sell but easier to sell than lucky cats in Chinatown that's for sure
47:10everybody uses water toilet roll and bubble wrap cat litter on the other hand I admit not as easy to
47:16sell which is why I would have suggested calling Battersea Dog same and getting in there quick
47:20because sorry we were too busy selling stuff just selling out of the industry just a suggestion
47:25who's ma I've got some numbers here interestingly enough I've got down here that you didn't sell
47:29anything is that right my role in this wasn't to sell anything what was it to do then make sure
47:34that we didn't waste any time operations and logistics I delegated roles within that
47:38Usma wasn't allocated a selling role that her role was mainly organized and where we were going next so
47:43how come she didn't get to Battersea cats and dogs home there's one place that's going to buy all your
47:47cat litter and that's got to be at home the boys have got there and cleaned up there didn't they yeah
47:52they did right what was the first thing you sold then we were disappointed with the fact that the
47:57first pitch we were kind of really revved up to do it and Rebecca you know she's a top seller in her
48:02field she's award-winning and then she kind of went in and just epically failed didn't epically fail
48:07well yes I'm happy to learn lengthen in detail so let's do that now I would like to point out Rebecca
48:13redeemed herself oh thank you for that very nicely she turned out to actually be the biggest seller in
48:19your group really really well and Sophie I've got zero against you didn't sell anything is that right
48:26I pitched to sell the lucky cats but I think Natalie then step we were gonna lose the deal he started
48:32saying how I how cheap I get them from China you know you even said this is why I didn't want to sell
48:37lucky cats in Chinatown I knew that the beginning I didn't want to sell the product in the first place
48:42because to me no I kept saying that jazz which two people you bringing back in this board I think
48:52I just have to go with who I feel could have contributed more in our team that's Sophie
48:58it's not really fair because I'm having you I'm not gonna discuss it with you it's my choice
49:02unfortunately someone someone should have thought about the cat litter and battersea dog time if it
49:09wasn't for me our team wouldn't have sold if it wasn't for me you made the decision to be project
49:24manager like that now come on I want to go home today so I'd like to bring us my back in along with Sophie
49:29okay ladies the rest of you go back to the house and I will see you on the next task okay what I'd like
49:45to do now is have a little chat with Nick in particular so if you'd like to step outside
49:49and I'll call you back in shortly Jazz I think she spent far too much time on the kind of motivational
50:00speaking and all that stuff but one shouldn't underestimate the pressure people are under in
50:06becoming project managers and as we've seen from these girls they don't take any prisoners this lot
50:12yeah Sophie was a big disappointment to me she was very quick with her criticism of everybody else and not
50:19very insightful to her own shortcomings and not selling anything Osma claims she was in charge of
50:24logistics jury's out simple as that jury's out yes or trigger would you send the three of them in
50:33please yes Lord sugar will see you now jazz I guess that the two ladies sitting either side of you
50:53would like to know why you brought them in perhaps you'd like to start with what was was doing here I
50:58know you didn't say anything Osma and also being logistics I would have thought that the cat litter
51:03was high on a priority for getting rid of knowing that the boys sold their cat litter all in one and
51:09that sale was the the one that we could have had but I was going through all the directories pulling out
51:15numbers Leah was on the phone just tell me that you did try and sell that cat litter to domestic dogs
51:19oh yes Osma I have this vision of you orchestrating a military kind of campaign you go here you go
51:27there this one opens this time that one opens this time that's very much what happened if I didn't do
51:33the job that I did we wouldn't have made those sales did you not think this is a selling task I
51:40should perhaps sell do you not think that if you had someone like me in your team you would have
51:44probably made some more sales I have no idea how many anything you a logistics girl I'm a logistics
51:51girl I understand I'm a businesswoman darling we're all businesswomen but what did you do you didn't sell
51:57anything well she claims what she did was a logistics task now look jazz what's Sophie doing here Sophie
52:03unfortunately was a passenger on this task in that sale with the child of cats when Sophie was trying to make
52:09the one chance she had to really push these sales through she would not drop the price we push for
52:14time you were pushing Chinatown I thought right we've got imported products why are we gonna go
52:19and sell and then did you say that when did you explain that to me as the expert on lucky cats
52:24I'm not an expert on lucky cats you didn't listen to me and you pushed it because you said no we'll go
52:29to Soho we'll go to Chinatown you're trying to sell a Chinese product to Chinese people who do not
52:35think we'll buy it for about five P do you not know that lucky cats are you know in every single
52:41Chinese restaurant in the country and you know to go and sell the stuff in Chinatown is like coal to
52:46Newcastle do you know what the fact remains that as project manager I managed the team I led the team
52:51we failed because we didn't sell enough and we lost by 58 pounds you didn't sell anything you didn't sell
52:58anything jazz that's true and that's that's why they're both here jazz people are saying about you
53:04that you don't listen you sound your best business skills once I've got an idea in my head is going
53:10to happen and is that what you found from absolutely you didn't listen to me from the moment I said these
53:16have a Chinese I'll see when I'm right and I'm often right I've had chance to show leadership skills
53:21under pressure and organizational skills and I believe that I've done that I've also got a lot more
53:26to show I don't give up and I don't say no if I leave this process I want it to be because I'm not
53:31good enough not because other people have suddenly decided I'm an easy scapegoat the only way I'll know
53:36if you're not good enough really is listening to other people and right now you know I have got an
53:41issue and you say that she's more culpable than you just man Sophie who I'm not man I'm not sugar
53:48okay yeah I think Sophie is more culpable than me that's how I shouldn't be fired because I had a
53:54task to lead the team which I did I did lead the team ladies I think I've had it I think I've had
54:01enough I think I've heard enough had enough jazz very very brave move to jump in and be the project
54:12manager and I do give you credit for that was it clever I don't think so certainly wasn't clever the
54:20speed at which you did it Uzma I was confused why jazz brought you in here I've owned businesses I've had
54:32sales teams where a logistics person is the heart of the company so I understand what that means and on
54:41that basis you're not in my consideration at the moment thank you Sophie you didn't sell anything
54:52jazz was adamant that you were coming back in here and that tells me that she felt that you didn't
54:59pull your weight on this task I have to give that deep consideration I think that jazz there was terrible
55:15mayhem going on bad organization fatal mistakes made and I do believe that your biggest mistake was
55:26jumping in too quickly on that basis jazz you're fired okay thank you and I'll see both you ladies on the
55:47next task okay off you go
55:48thank you
56:01thank you
56:03if I had my time again I'd love to say I wouldn't volunteer but I know I would
56:22I'm gutted to be fired before I've got a chance to show how amazing I am and I really wanted to go
56:29right through to the end of the process because my business plan is phenomenal
56:33was jazz to blame as the project manager yeah okay the project management was so bad you know it
56:45just really wasn't great do you guys not think with because Uzma owned her own business that she
56:50has more credentials I found it to be not very effective but she but she talks really well she
56:59took us a good fight
56:59yeah it is quite terrifying that initial going into the boardroom for the first time is quite
57:16daunting and once you've done it yeah you're ready to do it again yeah exactly yeah so go on be ready
57:22for it now 15 candidates remain lord sugar search for his next business partner has begun next time your task is all about making money from flavored beer bloody hell trouble bruise we are having an absolute shocker at the factory I'm surprised you've even turned up frustration
57:40ferment ferment Jason will you be quiet you silly shit you need to let me speak then things turn bitter I have never seen such a bloody mess you're all a bloody waste of space you're fired
