00:17There are so many people and it's just amazing.
00:21Welcome to Season 10 of Project Runway.
00:25Oh my God, it's happening to that one.
00:27Anybody got a lit brush?
00:29It's crazy. There's people everywhere. It's frantic.
00:32Diners, I need you to put your kids away.
00:34That's it for last looks and I need you to come to me.
00:39Hi, everybody.
00:41We're in Times Square.
00:42This is our 10th anniversary of Project Runway
00:45and we're here with all the fans and we're very, very excited.
00:49We've had more seasons than I Love Lucy.
00:52Pretty amazing.
00:5310 years of fabulous fashion.
00:57We thank all of you who are helping make the careers of so many incredibly talented designers.
01:03And now we have a big moment.
01:0516 designers with shaking knees back there.
01:07It's true. They're very, very talented and they're very nervous.
01:11Would you guys like to meet them?
01:14Yay!
01:15Take a glass of champagne.
01:20Times Square.
01:21Ooh.
01:23Does it get any bigger than Times Square?
01:24I don't think it does.
01:25Nothing can even compare.
01:28This is like mega, mega, mega, mega.
01:30Designers, I just want to say how thrilled and honored we are to have you with us to share Season 10.
01:35So we should lift a glass.
01:37Here is to Season 10 of Project Runway.
01:40Here's to Season 10.
01:41Cheers, everybody.
01:42Cheers!
01:43Cheers!
01:44Cheers!
01:45Cheers!
01:54My name is Buffy Jashamal.
01:56I am half Indian, half Australian, but I grew up in Dubai.
01:59The person who I'm trying to dress, the Buffy girl, is somebody who is always dressed up for the party, even if she's not going to one.
02:07It's colorful, bold, and a little bit eccentric.
02:11Buffy is it?
02:12Yes.
02:13How do you say your name?
02:14Gunner.
02:15Gunner, okay.
02:16This is my second time coming to Project Runway.
02:19I did audition last year and made it to the top 20.
02:22Gunner, I'm sorry, you're out.
02:24I think what went wrong last time was that I didn't know who I was as a designer.
02:28And now coming back, it's a whole different light.
02:32You know, I have a point of view.
02:34I know who I am.
02:35And this year coming back is definitely a chance for redemption.
02:41Hey!
02:42What?
02:43Oh my god.
02:44This is me.
02:45We had a homework assignment before we came on the show this time.
02:47We were to make an outfit that describes our design aesthetic.
02:50Some whole chic.
02:51I always like to picture Cruella de Vil in my outfits dragging a fur behind her.
02:58My name is Lanty Foster.
02:59I'm 38 and I'm from Northern California.
03:02I'm sorry, did I say 38?
03:03I did.
03:06Hey guys, how are you?
03:07I'm Buffy.
03:08Go on.
03:09We're matching.
03:10Hey.
03:11Hi Fabio.
03:12Sanji.
03:13Hi.
03:14Where's yours?
03:15It's that black one over there.
03:16Oh, that's cute.
03:18It's my favorite.
03:19I designed for the edgy girl that is not scared to experiment with her style.
03:25Very avant-garde kind of feel.
03:27Where's yours?
03:28Mine is Dismos.
03:29Some people consider my outfit as very costume design, but it's not.
03:34A lot of like Japanese street fashion.
03:36Yeah.
03:37I think clothing for everybody is a little bit different.
03:40Some people wear to have a, I'm a little more richer than what you think, or something
03:45like that, you know what I mean?
03:46But my thing about the clothing is, I do make clothing because of love.
03:52I like making a lot of love.
03:54Yeah.
03:56When I went to college, I wanted to be a lawyer.
04:00And I took one political science class and I looked around and I was like, these are not my people.
04:06It took me 10 years to go back to school to finally pursue my master's in fashion design.
04:11So what's your style?
04:12Like what do you like to design?
04:13Um, I design a lot in black.
04:15Kind of more gothic inspired.
04:17I love black.
04:18I love using black.
04:20I love black and white films.
04:22I love black and white photography.
04:23It's just how I see, I see life.
04:26Hey guys.
04:27Like I'm yours.
04:28Um, the left and the back.
04:33Hello.
04:34Hi everyone.
04:36Thrilled to have you all here.
04:38Well, I want to welcome all of you to Parsons, the new school for design.
04:42Adjoining this room is the brother sewing room, outfitted with brother sewing machines.
04:46And as you all know, fashion and technology are inextricable.
04:50So we are thrilled to be partnering once again with HP.
04:53And you each have an HP and Intel tablet on which to draw and execute your design ideas.
04:59And we have our Lord and Taylor accessory wall.
05:02Bravo, Lord and Taylor.
05:03Now, we asked you each to send us a look and that is the look that is on your dress form.
05:09And for your first challenge, you will be creating a second look, a companion piece.
05:16And by that I mean, it should look as though it belongs with this piece.
05:19So you'll have one day for the challenge.
05:22You'll have a hundred dollar budget.
05:24We're going shopping at Mood.
05:25Now, you are our 10th anniversary season of designers.
05:30I'm thrilled to tell you, this first challenge is going to be the biggest runway presentation
05:36and the history of Project Runway.
05:39You are going to be presenting your work to a huge audience, probably thousands of people,
05:45tons of press, in the center of the universe, Times Square.
05:49I've never showcased in a venue that big.
05:53All eyes will be on you.
05:55Now, I'm even more nervous.
05:57So how excited are you?
05:58Oh my God, this is crazy.
06:00That's awesome.
06:01All right, so I'm going to give you 30 minutes to sketch,
06:04and then we're going to Mood.
06:06I wouldn't be Tim Gunn without saying make it work.
06:09All right, thank you.
06:11It hasn't even hit me yet that I'm a part of Project Runway.
06:15I live at home with my two sisters and my parents in Massapequa.
06:19Yeah, I dropped out of college.
06:21But you know what?
06:22Talent is talent.
06:24I have a portfolio.
06:25I can sew like a .
06:27For the past few years, I've been making clothes for Tomboys, basically.
06:32Being a lesbian designer sets me apart because it gives me a different point of view.
06:37I like menswear, and I also like womenswear.
06:40My natural inclination is to mix the two.
06:43Design and concept comes naturally to me.
06:45Sewing, not so much.
06:47The first look, I took about four days to create.
06:51Now I have one day, so I'm a little freaked out.
06:56All right, designers, are you set to go to Mood?
07:00Let's go.
07:01Designers, your time starts right now.
07:11Most people know that I'm a menswear designer, but I also have passion for womenswear.
07:15When I design for a woman, it's extremely feminine.
07:18I like to drape.
07:19I like to make dramatic colors.
07:21Designers, time is up.
07:23Thank you, Mood.
07:35I'm the grandmother of Project One Way.
07:37Where are you from?
07:38New York.
07:39I thought the next question would be, how old are you?
07:41Fifty-eight.
07:42I'm proud of it.
07:43You look great.
07:44It's amazing.
07:45That means experience.
07:46I have a BA in art and MA in art education as well as an MFA in art.
07:52I'm a professor.
07:53I also teach fashion.
07:54Yeah, I've never been diagnosed with ADD, but I'm almost 100% positive that I have it.
08:07Now I'm putting myself out there as a fashion designer.
08:09I can't mess it up.
08:10I have to make it because I don't know if there's going to be another opportunity like
08:14this.
08:15Well, I grew up in Brazil with my grandmother, and she was the seamstress of the neighborhood.
08:19Her sewing machine was in my room, and I used to go to bed, listen to the machine, and
08:23to me that was like a lullaby.
08:24I don't shop.
08:25I'm a freegan.
08:26You're a what?
08:27Freegan.
08:28You know what that means?
08:29No, I don't.
08:30It means that I get my food out of the dumpsters.
08:32For real?
08:33Mm-hmm.
08:34It's like big supermarkets throw a bunch of food out every day.
08:36What?
08:37Mm-hmm.
08:38I'll take you out sometime.
08:39Let's all go dumpster diving.
08:41I used to be a professional ballroom dancer.
08:45You did?
08:46So where did you perform?
08:47Belarus, and I used to travel all over Europe.
08:50Oh, what a riot.
08:51And that's how I kind of got into fashion.
08:54I started sketching because seeing all these costumes and just glitter and feathers.
08:59Now I'm more into real fashion, jackets and coats and evening gowns.
09:05My design aesthetic is clean, architectural, but soft at the same time.
09:10I have passion for fashion.
09:12Coming up on Project Runway.
09:16I have no time for this.
09:18I am going to lose my .
09:19I really don't get it.
09:21I'm thoroughly confused.
09:23You all are intensely working, which is good.
09:30And you will get started.
09:32Well, you're working away, Melissa.
09:33Good.
09:34I want to know as much as I can about who you are as a designer.
09:37I love to work with leather.
09:38I like to do a little bit more, I would say, avant-garde looks.
09:42So what are you creating?
09:43I wanted to show a little bit more skin in this look.
09:46I'm still using black and wrapping it around.
09:49I'm intrigued.
09:50I like kind of mixing the soft with the hard.
09:52This piece is supposed to be more so about the jacket.
09:54As positively as I respond to the jacket, I really don't get it with the dress underneath.
09:59Yeah.
10:00These are my colors.
10:01And then I did the pants with the cut-out holes.
10:04Mm-hmm.
10:05Just on one leg because I thought that wasn't, like, as trashy and I like things asymmetric.
10:09So I was trying to be sophisticated because I was scared that the judges might, like, go down a route
10:14so they know it was, like, a bit too, you know, much or something.
10:17It's not a bit not too much.
10:20Yeah.
10:21Hey.
10:22Kuan, hi.
10:23Hi.
10:24Is this a dress?
10:25This is actually you can wear as a dress as well.
10:27So what are you creating now?
10:29It's like a, how do you say, a coat dress.
10:31Where's the dress part of it?
10:33This is it.
10:34All right.
10:35So my warrior was, yeah.
10:36Sorry me.
10:37I'm not understanding.
10:38Yeah.
10:39But I'm trusting.
10:40If you're confident about this, okay.
10:42Thank you so much.
10:43Thank you, Kuan.
10:44I'm all knits, mainly.
10:46Okay.
10:47I kind of go with a constructed look even though it is a knit.
10:50This is indicative of who you are as a designer.
10:52Yes, absolutely.
10:53My second look, and I think it's close to what I'm working with, and then I picked this
11:00light fabric.
11:01So what I want to do, it's basically a sweater dress.
11:04What would happen if you played with this over it?
11:10Just play with it.
11:11Okay.
11:12In fact, experiment with it.
11:13I'd love to hear about the look that you've sent ahead.
11:15Yeah.
11:16So this is the look that I made at home.
11:18The fact that you've kept it all in a single palette, and it's something that's dark and
11:22matte.
11:23Mm-hmm.
11:24I really believe it works.
11:25Yeah.
11:26So what are you doing for your new look?
11:27I took this little piece of it and zoomed in and made a full skirt out of it.
11:33I'm going to come clean with you.
11:35Mm-hmm.
11:36In the company of that piece and this piece, the skirt is like a throw away.
11:42I'm questioning the design of the skirt, and I'm questioning the textile.
11:46Dunder, how are you doing?
11:47Hi, Tim.
11:48How are you?
11:49So tell me about the look that you sent ahead.
11:50I kind of like designing for older Southern women.
11:53Listen, there's a market.
11:54There is, and I'm surrounded by them, so I might as well sew for them.
11:59I decided to use an old antique dress from the 60s, and that's this.
12:04So I did my own adaptation of it.
12:06So I'm incorporating the snakeskin over to here, and I believe I'm going to use, like,
12:12nude underneath.
12:13You say I'm pretty sure I'm going to use that?
12:15This is the time to commit.
12:16Yeah, I kind of figured out as I go.
12:19I wasn't quite ready for you.
12:21No one ever is.
12:23My last collection was inspired by fencing uniforms.
12:27Oh.
12:28And, um.
12:29I get it.
12:30Yeah.
12:31So now I want to hear about this look.
12:33What was really worrying me is this color.
12:36Is it too much?
12:37What do you think?
12:42You need to commit and just execute.
12:45Okay.
12:46Just do it.
12:47I want to hear about this look.
12:48My aesthetic is really like romanticism mixed with the modern sophistication.
12:52I'm incredibly impressed with the execution of this.
12:55What's happening with the companion piece?
12:56This is a cocktail dress that's above the knee.
12:58I really wanted to balance it by putting a high neckline.
13:01How long would this take you?
13:02I think that's my only concern is definitely the time.
13:05Understood.
13:06But I'm working through it.
13:07I thought for this challenge, especially since we're having young models and we're going
13:11to be in Times Square, that I wanted something that was really punchy and perhaps a little
13:15more youthful and a little bit shorter.
13:17Just as long as there's harmony.
13:19Okay.
13:21Raul, how are you?
13:22You look like you're in a state of indecision.
13:27Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out what to do with this fabric.
13:30What would you do with that to create a finished look?
13:34I was thinking about making a dress.
13:36You're going to need to instruct your model to wear something that's going to cover her
13:43up.
13:44Right.
13:45Christopher.
13:46Hi.
13:47I'm quite taken by this.
13:48In a good way or not?
13:49Oh, yeah.
13:50Fantastic.
13:51So, what are you struggling with?
13:53The garment that I'm making right now.
13:56A strapless mini.
13:57This actually took longer than I thought.
14:01I think you have the potential here for having a serious wow moment.
14:09Hey, yeah.
14:10Hi, I'm Jordan.
14:11Raul, nice to meet you.
14:12Nice to meet you.
14:13Claire.
14:14We're going to see if we can squish your boobage in here.
14:16If I don't pierce your nipple with this thing.
14:19My model is two inches smaller than the forms.
14:22So, I'm kind of screwed.
14:24All right, guys.
14:2515 minutes.
14:26.
14:27Where's my zipper?
14:28Oh, my God.
14:29Oh, my God.
14:36No matter what I do, how fast I go, there's just not enough time to make this happen.
14:40Oh.
14:41Oh.
14:42Oh, it's cute.
14:47Oh, it's cute.
14:48I am getting quite nervous because I am not finished with this garment.
15:04Oh, my gosh.
15:05That whole seam just ripped out.
15:07Oh, fabulous.
15:12I have so much to do.
15:14I have to throw the second look together in hours.
15:18I am so nervous.
15:19I do not want to go home.
15:21Oh, God.
15:23Well, how is everyone?
15:28It's our first runway show, and it's going to be one to beat the band.
15:34Times Square, everybody.
15:36Your models will be in soon.
15:39You will have two hours to send them to the L'Oreal Paris Hair and Makeup Room.
15:44Use the Lord & Taylor accessory wall very thoughtfully.
15:48Work hard, everyone.
15:49Okay.
15:50Big day.
15:57Big smile.
15:58Good.
15:59Big smile.
16:04I create this on both of them.
16:06Very, you know, long and then pointy.
16:08And you want the ponytail super straight?
16:10Yes.
16:11Good.
16:18What color smoke around the eye?
16:20I was thinking like maybe, you know, between those two blues.
16:23Lots of mascara.
16:24Lots of mascara, long eyelashes.
16:26My dress doesn't look right, so I'm literally making a shirt right now.
16:30Stop.
16:31Stop.
16:32I have 20 minutes left to go and I notice as I'm trimming the dress that I have trimmed a hole through it.
16:39I think just being so frantic.
16:49Designers, time is up.
16:52So you and your models and I are going down to the runway.
16:56All right everybody, let's head off to Times Square.
16:59Woo!
17:00Let's go!
17:15We have the runway.
17:16We have all the paparazzi.
17:18If I were dreaming, this is what it would be like.
17:21Designers, welcome to the runway.
17:25As you know in fashion one day you're in and the next day you're out.
17:30Your challenge this week was to design an outfit at home at your leisure and one outfit here at Parsons.
17:35Two looks that were supposed to look like they belong on the runway together.
17:36Let's meet the judges.
17:37First we have CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award winner Michael Kors.
17:41Fashion Director of Mary Claire Magazine, Nina Garcia.
17:42And our guest judges for today, actress Lauren Graham.
17:44And the first day you're in and the next day you're out.
17:45Your challenge this week was to design an outfit at home at your leisure and one outfit here at Parsons.
17:50Two looks that were supposed to look like they belong on the runway together.
17:53Let's meet the judges.
17:54First we have CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award winner Michael Kors.
17:59Fashion Director of Mary Claire Magazine, Nina Garcia.
18:06And our guest judges for today, actress Lauren Graham.
18:12And Project Runway's first guest judge ever ten seasons ago,
18:16Costume Designer and Stylist Patricia Fields.
18:19Welcome to Patricia.
18:22I see my looks come down the runway.
18:36The pants look beautiful with the movement.
18:43Oh my God.
18:44I am in complete awe.
18:46My models are walking great.
18:53I think that for the time factor they look good.
18:58But of course I wish I had more time to have made it better.
19:11I'm so happy with my first look.
19:14She looks beautiful in the dress and it looks amazing.
19:21As the second look walks down the runway, I'm actually kind of looking at it
19:24and it doesn't look as horrifying as I saw in the workroom.
19:27But it's still not great.
19:33I feel very excited about my work.
19:35I stay true to my aesthetic.
19:38It is well put together and presents really beautifully.
19:45And that's what I was really going for.
19:49When I see my cocktail dress, I love the feeling that you get from it.
19:54It's so pretty and so feminine.
19:56But I'm just really concerned about that zipper warping.
19:59My gown coming down the runway, it's moving.
20:04It's flowy.
20:05I would have never guessed it would look that good.
20:10When I see my first look come down the runway, all the noise, everything all gets quiet and I just focus on her.
20:18I did reach out and try to do something new with this ensemble.
20:25But at the same time, it's very me.
20:27So I hope that it's enough.
20:30I'm really pleased with how they came out.
20:36I love how they look.
20:38They're very out there.
20:39It's probably nothing like they're used to.
20:42I really hope they don't find my looks atrocious.
20:50Everything looks like it's working great.
20:52I love the colors together.
20:53My second look wasn't as much of a statement piece as the first one.
20:57So I was rather concerned that I could be in the bottom three.
21:07My sequined gown looks great and I think it's a great piece.
21:11It shows me really well as a designer.
21:14My girls look beautiful.
21:20It looks good.
21:21I'm very happy.
21:23People are screaming just for my outfit.
21:27Nobody else but my outfit.
21:29Thank you, people.
21:35I have absolutely no regrets.
21:38I am 100% happy with my looks.
21:40Last season, I may have been one of the first ones to fall, but this time I'm going to be one of the last ones standing.
21:46She is just totally killing it and working the runway and I'm like, oh, this looks good.
21:56I'm jumping up and down even though I'm sitting there looking all calm and collective.
22:00I am just thinking, you got this.
22:03You got this one.
22:12I'm looking at that jacket and I'm saying, wow.
22:15Everything that I wanted to accomplish, I feel like I accomplished it.
22:19I feel like the whole look comes together and just compliments the first look so well.
22:32Seeing my first look come down the runway is just unbelievable.
22:36I am just blown away because it's exactly how I wanted to see her.
22:40I'm very happy with my looks.
22:54I love my first look.
22:55She looks amazing.
22:56Everything looks great.
22:57When my second look comes on the runway, I was second guessing myself still.
23:02Then I see my model just rocking this dress and everything makes sense.
23:15I am absolutely 100% behind my garment.
23:19It's unusual.
23:20It's unconventional, but it's wearable and it's functional and it has me in it.
23:25The black dress has every element of my design and she looks amazing and she fills my garment the way that I need it to be filled.
23:35And I feel so proud of that.
23:40That was it, everybody.
23:43Thank you very much for having us here.
23:46I have to say I was very impressed.
23:56It was a great runway show.
23:58Did you guys like it?
23:59Yes.
24:01Were you nervous?
24:02Yes.

24:43Project Runway's original New York home at the Atlas, Gotham City Luxury Apartment Building in Manhattan's Fashion District.
24:51Yeah.
24:52All right, let's get down to business.
24:54There's 16 of you here and after tonight, there will be 15.
24:58If I call your name, please step forward.
25:01Kuan, please step forward.
25:03Venn, Lanty, Christopher, Beatrice, Melissa, please step forward.
25:15If I have not called your name, congratulations.
25:19Your scores have qualified you to move on to the next challenge.
25:22You can leave the runway.
25:23One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
25:36The six of you have the highest and the lowest scores.
25:40One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
25:45Okay, Kuan, tell us about your looks.
25:47This first look represents more like the one that I started when I was 16.
25:54This represents more my recent work that I did.
25:59I mean, I definitely have a lot of question marks.
26:01Yes.
26:02It's odd, it's strange.
26:04At the same time, it is intriguing in a way.
26:07So there's the next question mark in my head.
26:09Do I want to see more?
26:10I want to show you more stuff.
26:11Well, obviously, you know, you have a look, and it's certainly not something that will go unnoticed.
26:20My reaction, though, is even if cartoon is your thing, you don't want it to be a joke.
26:27You know, when I look at the romper, I mean, she's borderline Teletubby.
26:32But realistically, you know, do you know how to sew?
26:36Yes.
26:37Yes, you absolutely know how to sew.
26:39You know, you want to have your own point of view.
26:41You want it to be different.
26:42But it can still look expensive, polished.
26:47It's just I want to be sure that we're not going to see a joke.
26:50Thank you so much.
26:52My concern is that you're not being outrageous just for the sake of being outrageous.
26:59I think that choice of fabric might have been a little dangerous because while it's got a great visual, it doesn't tailor up very easily because it has a, you know, that stiffness to it.
27:13I mean, I think he has a very strong point of view, actually.
27:16Thank you so much.
27:18Thank you, Kuan.
27:19Thank you so much.
27:20Melissa, tell us about your looks.
27:22The dress was inspired by the Bauhaus art movement as well as the band.
27:26So I wanted to continue with the geometric angles.
27:28The minute they turn the corner, I know your vibe, you know, and today that was an important part of this.
27:37I really like this.
27:38I happen to prefer your second look, but the girls connect.
27:43I liked it very much.
27:45It's definitely current.
27:46It's something that a lot of girls would want to wear.
27:50They're both sexy girls.
27:52I mean, that is nice.
27:53I would want to wear that, both of these looks.
27:57It fits her beautifully.
27:58And she walked out and I was like, ooh, you know, and the three of you together tell a story of coolness.
28:04And that's hard to do with black because we've all seen a lot of blacks, but they look great.
28:12Beatrice, tell us about your looks.
28:13I like mixing knit.
28:15And I started out, I just like to have something that's easy to throw on, easy to wear, and making a knit that looks special.
28:22And then I wanted to give her something to reveal and cover her with, so I made kind of like a cape.
28:29So this is a sweater type knit.
28:34And then I used this fabric to go with it.
28:38I have to tell you, I was not very attracted to both of the looks.
28:41One, it's kind of like this t-shirt meets sack dress, and here the same.
28:46I'm not loving these two fabrics together.
28:49I was just not attracted to either of the pieces.
28:52I get it that you like knits.
28:55Then you have this other look that, it's interesting, it's a nice skirt.
29:00And you have a simple dress that actually looks much better if you take the cape off.
29:05Because at least you can appreciate that you have spent some time in its simplicity.
29:10I mean, the shape in itself is quite beautiful.
29:14Right.
29:15Everyone loves comfort, everyone loves easiness, but that's not enough.
29:21It doesn't really tell me who you are as a designer.
29:26And I don't really know who your girl is.
29:29Right.
29:30And that really is what it's all about today.
29:32This dress is so pretty, it just gives me ideas of what else I wish you did.
29:36Like I wish you'd done, be the knit jersey person, you know, and do it in a different length.
29:43The comfort part, I get it.
29:46The thing is, though, it's not catching my eye in any special way.
29:51Thank you, Beatrice.
29:53Christopher, we're going to talk to you next.
29:55Tell us about your looks.
29:57Well, my design aesthetic is chic, sophisticated, and I picked this fabric here.
30:04And I knew I wanted to use this technique, sewing lines parallel to each other, as you see here.
30:10I've really tried hard to make material that you've never seen before.
30:14I love this gown.
30:16I think it's exquisite.
30:18I mean, this is a gown that can be on a red carpet with a major star.
30:23I mean, for all the people at home, you have to show this again.
30:26Like, when you lift this fabric up, how it peekaboo's.
30:29I mean, it is so awesome, the way you did that.
30:33This is also very nice.
30:35To tell you the truth, when you guys do these black dresses, it doesn't really translate that well.
30:41It's so hard to see, and there is so much work, but I love them both.
30:45Thank you very much.
30:46I think you did a fantastic job.
30:48The fabric manipulation is really, really, really well done.
30:53And the toughest thing is to do something that is, in fact, very labor-intensive, but make it look effortless.
30:59But what did not work for me, quite honestly, is the way these girls are styled.
31:04Really?
31:05I think they are not modern.
31:08I think they're a little wedding party in the styling.
31:12Yeah.
31:13Initially, I saw a lot of problems with this little black dress.
31:17But then came this beauty.
31:20And it was striking, because it looks so light.
31:25And it looks so fragile.
31:28And you took a fabric that is okay.
31:31It's tacky, and I hate it.
31:33And you made it look remarkable.
31:36You know, it completely changed my perspective on you immediately when I saw this.
31:41There was that delicate quality of the 30s, and it really shows specialness.
31:51Christopher, thank you.
31:53Lanty, tell us about your looks.
31:55For the at-home challenge, I had a 60s vintage dress.
31:59This is real snakeskin, and a little bolero jacket.
32:03I took the tool idea and did the snake in the front.
32:06I just don't think it's flattering to have this piece of fabric right here in the front.
32:10It looks stuck on.
32:11Is that something that you do in all of your clothes?
32:13No, not at all.
32:14These pieces in the front?
32:15I don't know what you're trying to say other than vintage-y looking textiles.
32:21It looks like it's made out of kind of muddy mosquito netting.
32:25It's a little sad.
32:27I don't know what the story is other than a textile story, and I don't think the textiles are so great.
32:35Okay.
32:36I don't think this is a disaster.
32:38I think you were just trying too hard.
32:40And I thought it was pretty.
32:42And then I saw the second one, and I was like, oh my God, it is horrifying.
32:49It's kind of like, is this the same designer?
32:53You reworked vintage clothes.
32:56It's somewhere in between stylist and designer.
33:00It's one step below design.
33:03Thank you, Lanty.
33:05Ven, tell us about your looks.
33:07For my first look, I really worked on a creative draping for the top, and I wanted the suit to be designed but still clean.
33:16For the second look, I really just wanted to mimic an idea of the top, but something that was easy and wearable.
33:24Ven, what I really liked about your two designs was the way they worked with each other.
33:29You know, I can totally see the relation.
33:31You tailored fabric that is really tough to tailor.
33:36Took a long time.
33:37But you managed to take this crepe fabric with those pleats.
33:43You really did think about her body.
33:45These had a really nice, elegant flow to them.
33:48The flower construction on the bustier is fantastic.
33:53When I first saw this, my first instinct was to think, wow, he is technically very good.
34:03Because this bustier looks phenomenal.
34:06It looks expensive, and it looks very well done.
34:10It's beautiful.
34:11I love a white suit, and it was just so fresh and happy when it came out.
34:14I just love the choice of that pink, so it was really lovely.
34:18Thank you very much.
34:19Thank you, Vin.
34:20Models, you can leave the runway.
34:22Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
34:26I'm going to have a little chat, and then I'm going to call you back.
34:29You can leave the runway.
34:30Out of the three designers that had the highest scores, there were two that we really, really
34:42loved.
34:43Yeah, that was really clear.
34:44We also had high scores for Melissa.
34:47We liked it, but it wasn't as special as Venn's or Christopher's, right?
34:52Melissa's clothes, a young woman in today's world, I mean, those are the clothes that she's
34:58going to grab for.
34:59Yeah.
35:00Because they've got edge.
35:01The hair and makeup was great.
35:03It looked dramatic.
35:04It looked modern.
35:05It looked now.
35:06The customer is going to go for it.
35:08Oh.
35:09It's easy to understand.
35:10You know it.
35:11You know the girl.
35:12I would want all of those pieces.
35:13I thought it was very nice.
35:15Christopher, the gown, to do that, not only to create the textile, to keep it as light,
35:20when you saw that the strips were not all the same size, I mean, that was all gray dated
35:25out.
35:26And something so fragile about that dress, so light.
35:31He took an old lady fabric and he made it young.
35:34That's the twist.
35:36I just wish the black dress had been some other color, like any other color, so you could
35:41have seen what was in there, yeah.
35:44When I saw that black dress, I was like, then I see the second dress, I was like, wow.
35:50We would all wear that, right?
35:51I mean, that was...
35:52Not me.
35:53Special.
35:54Why not?
35:55Well, maybe.
35:56Maybe.
35:57No, I think he really did a brilliant job there.
36:00We also loved Van.
36:03This bustier was beautiful.
36:04I mean, it did look like a rose.
36:07The sculpting was fabulous.
36:08I mean, he actually had too many ideas today.
36:12Yeah.
36:13I think in the long run, Van could step out because he's got that craft.
36:19Van, everything he did was perfect.
36:22Was made perfectly, fit beautifully.
36:26And I think looked expensive.
36:29Let's talk about the designers that we didn't like so much today.
36:33Kuan, he's a little goofy, right?
36:36But I just want to make sure, though, that it's got charm and humor, but it's not a joke.
36:42It's almost more cause for concern the second look.
36:46His kooky look has so much going on.
36:49It was the second one that...
36:50When he tries for restraint, what's going to happen?
36:52Yeah, it was sort of...
36:53Maybe it'll just go zoom.
36:54Do anything.
36:55The sufleo fall.
36:56All right, let's talk about Beatrice.
36:58The knits.
36:59She had no story to tell.
37:01Like, she was really trying really hard to sell the clothes to us.
37:05She thought that that ugly Aztec cape was going to be, like, a dramatic moment.
37:11I mean, if anything, the only possible good thing she had was the gray dress.
37:17Let's talk about Lanty.
37:19You know what I loved what you said, Patricia?
37:22You said Lanty is more of a stylist than a designer.
37:27I was like, you know what?
37:28I feel like you're right.
37:29I mean, I looked at Lanty and I think to myself, so she's kind of reworking vintage clothes, then
37:35has no idea about proportion.
37:36Bad vintage clothes.
37:37And badly done at that.
37:39Well, when she tried to design it, it was a disaster.
37:43She took a granny dress from the 70s.
37:46You know, that's what that was.
37:48And then she recreated for the new millennium more dumpy.
37:51What happened?
37:52Beatrice, I felt like, was saying she didn't feel she represented herself.
37:57And she should have done better, I guess.
38:00But Lanty was a little more like, yes, this is what I do.
38:03And I'm proud of it.
38:04Yes.
38:05At least she is a fighter.
38:07Or delusional.
38:09So we've made our decision.
38:11Okay, let's bring them back out.
38:15The six of you represent the best and the worst.
38:23One of you will be the winner of this challenge.
38:27And one of you will be out.
38:32Christopher?
38:33Yes.
38:36Congratulations.
38:37You are the winner of the first challenge.
38:42Thank you so much.
38:43Congratulations.
38:44You can leave the runway.
38:45I won the first challenge in Times Square in front of the world.
38:51It was so exciting.
38:53I won.
38:54You won!
38:59Oh, yeah!
39:00Oh, yeah!
39:01How's this going?
39:05Ven, we also really loved your looks.
39:08You're in.
39:09You can leave the runway.
39:11Melissa, good job.
39:13You're in.
39:14You can leave the runway.
39:21Kuan.
39:23You're in.
39:24You can leave the runway.
39:25Oh!
39:26Oh!
39:27Oh!
39:28Oh!
39:29Oh!
39:30Oh!
39:31Lanty.
39:32Beatrice.
39:33One of you will be out.
39:35You're in.
39:36Oh!
39:37I can leave the runway.
39:38Oh!
39:39What?
39:40You're in.
39:41Oh!
39:42Oh!
39:43Oh!
39:44Oh!
39:45Oh!
39:46Oh!
39:47Oh!
39:48Oh!
39:49Oh!
39:50Oh!
39:51Oh!
39:52Oh!
39:53Oh!
39:54Oh!
39:55Oh!
39:56Thank you for the opportunity.
40:00All the best to you.
40:06No one ever wants to be the first one to let go.
40:09And it is a bummer, but at the same time,
40:12I was really honored to be here.
40:14There you go.
40:16I told you, no, I'm out.
40:18No!
40:20It's okay.
40:21Oh!
40:24It's our first challenge.
40:26It's Project Runway musical chairs, as we all know,
40:29and a talented designer has to go.
40:32And we're just sick that it's you, Beatrice.
40:36I know.
40:37So you made it here. Congratulations.
40:40That's an incredible achievement.
40:43And now I have to send you to the workroom to clean up your space.
40:46I know. Yeah, I'll do it.
40:47Okay.
40:48All right.
40:49Okay, come on.
40:50I'll give you a hug.
40:52You're very talented, and we're gonna hear a lot more from you.
40:54Okay.
40:55Thank you very much.
40:58Even though I'm, like, the first to go,
41:00I really enjoyed my time here,
41:02and I'm proud that I was here and that I got selected.
41:09This season on Project Runway.
41:11The Rockettes will serve as your inspiration for this challenge.
41:15Get in your cars.
41:16This is your unconventional challenge.
41:18Oh, oh, oh.
41:22Oh, my God.
41:23It really hurts.
41:24It's cut throat.
41:25This is a glue out of it moment.
41:27I'm calm.
41:28Don't tell me to calm down.
41:29I think we're waiting for Elena to go crazy.
41:31Dude, where is she?
41:33I heard her get up in the middle of the night.
41:35.
41:36Just got real.
41:37Can't do this, though.
41:38Everything is falling apart.
41:40I'm at a loss for why someone really wants to leave.
41:43Everyone seems to be dropping like flies.
41:45Fashion is not for sissies.
41:47What is going on?
41:48You don't care what anybody else wants to do.
41:50Don't talk to me like that.
41:52Worst thing you can do to your team.
41:56It's a disco bridesmaid ice skating old lady.
42:00Atrocious.
42:01What happened?
42:02I can't even believe that I'm standing here right now.
42:05You had such an opportunity, and you threw it away.
42:26Hole.
42:27What happened?
42:28All I did you know
42:29can see if this week really talked to me a couple years ago it was just a separate book.
42:30I won't let it board.
42:33Honestly, I know.
42:35What happens next year?
42:36There was this week.
42:37She wanted to arrive, and we got out.
42:38That's a Anthem on peshote.
42:39How could I?
42:40All I went for?
42:41I can't put my podry and go.
42:42Th.
42:43How could I see this?
42:44I know now couldn't stand out.
42:45I'll just wait for私 kay goodbye.
42:47That Alleghen surprisingly, to her.
42:48I have been able to talkelo Yunys.
42:50Was probably the best to help people.
42:52I Ah no.
42:53I want this idea.
