02:30Welcome to Beyond the Tape.
02:48I'm your host, Mark Besson.
02:49Welcome to our viewers across Trinidad and Tobago.
02:52And, of course, our global viewers and our brothers and sisters in the Isle of Grenada.
02:58It was not too bad of a weekend in terms of the weather.
03:02It was rather sunny.
03:03I know for Father's Day, a lot of people would have enjoyed that really good weather that we had over the weekend.
03:10You know, a little break from the rainy weather that we had the previous week.
03:15And, of course, today with us is Captain Valence Rambrat from the Hunter's Search and Rescue Team.
03:20Welcome, sir, and happy belated Father's Day.
03:23Yeah, thank you, Mark.
03:25And I did have a relaxing Father's Day.
03:27I needed that because I know you aired the whole thing about the rescue Thursday night into Friday morning.
03:35And it was a tortious 12-hour marathon hike.
03:39I will deal with it in a short while.
03:41But really and truly, we welcome the fair weather we've been getting.
03:45And also, I will just add, I don't know if it was the rains, but we saw a slowing down in reports of missing persons.
03:53So it could be that, you know, people chose not to go missing during that period of time normally.
03:59You know, today is the 16th.
04:01We'll be 16th.
04:02I think we're on 14th.
04:03But Monday, after I left, it was a tough week for us.
04:10We had a lot of activities on Saturday.
04:13But first of all, we were able to successfully locate Bisundat Badal.
04:19He went missing from the Penal District.
04:21His family was distraught.
04:22An alert manager of Subway in Penal.
04:28She was able to recognize him from the poster.
04:33And she contacted us.
04:34And there it is.
04:35We were with a family member.
04:37He had gone in there.
04:40And we were able to get there in time and locate him.
04:44His family came.
04:46And they were able to successfully take him home.
04:50Some of these persons have mental issues.
04:53They have substance abuse problems.
04:56And really, the family has challenges with them.
04:59And this is one of the challenges of them just leaving and leaving and going and not seeing anything.
05:06Three, four days may pass.
05:07And the family do get worried.
05:09And the second mission, of course, I saw you edit on one of these, the rescue of four hikers.
05:16Mark, that was a marathon, 12-hour rescue mission.
05:22We got to Edith Falls.
05:23We got a call at 6 p.m.
05:25We were there at Edith Falls by 8 p.m.
05:29We did a two-hour search around Edith Falls.
05:33And we weren't successful.
05:35We met the fire services there, six officers.
05:38And one coast guard guy who just came along to help.
05:43And we...
05:43Was it that they got lost or they...
05:45Yeah, they got lost.
05:46Well, speaking to them, Mark, you ever went to Edith Falls.
05:50It's one of the most decorated waterfall route in Trinidad.
05:55And to be very short, it's easy to get to.
05:59The difficulty is zero.
06:01You have lots of colored ribbons.
06:03And there's no way you could bypass Edith Waterfalls.
06:06The thing is, I anticipate that they probably went in and it got dark.
06:12Yes.
06:12And they tried to come out.
06:13They left their vehicle at 3.30 p.m., which is really to go to a waterfall in Trinidad.
06:19But the thing is, these young people, they had a visitor, the Fairskinned Girl.
06:23I hope we could get up.
06:25We have a picture of one member with all of them.
06:28Right.
06:28She's a visitor from Canada.
06:31Okay.
06:31And what an experience she had.
06:35I guess they wanted to take her to the waterfall.
06:37They didn't think about the weather and the weather conditions.
06:41We left Edith Falls and went to Mount St. Catherine.
06:44That is where the radar tracking station is, Lower Downs, Chagaramus.
06:48The route from there would have been easier.
06:51We left there at 12.45 a.m. in the morning.
06:54And we got to them three hours and 45 minutes later at 3.26 a.m. in the morning.
07:03We were able to get to them.
07:06And it took us two and a half hours to get back out.
07:08Mark, that is...
07:09How far away from the waterfall did this tree?
07:11Six kilometers, street approximately.
07:13And that terrain there was a bit bushy and rugged.
07:16Mountains there.
07:17Yeah.
07:17And you have fallen trees.
07:19You have share cliffs.
07:20I took on the role to guide the entire team in and out of that area.
07:26And I can tell you it was slow moving.
07:29We had to take our time.
07:30The officers...
07:31And I want to say this.
07:32If the fire services has to come up to scratch and treat its officers properly,
07:37they need proper footwear, proper lighting.
07:40Mark, my torchlight guided us through.
07:43It was $1,000 for that.
07:45Right?
07:45And it stood out there.
07:47It held for the duration of the rescue.
07:51And it was bright throughout.
07:54And we need to see our fire officers equipped properly.
07:58They were sliding and slipping behind me.
08:01And I often wondered during the rescue operation if any of them would have become injured.
08:08Right?
08:09And that's cause for concern.
08:10Mark, I did in my on-cam interview say that I want the chief,
08:16in these fire services to reward these six fire officers.
08:20Yeah, because I know that for quite some time now,
08:23it has been in the public forum and in the media
08:26about the lack of equipment that several of these fire stations don't have.
08:34Yeah.
08:34Even the gear and so on for them to go out and properly,
08:38you know, go out on a fire or even in a situation like this.
08:42Mark, a rescue like that.
08:45Listen, hunters, search and rescue team, the fire services could now say that we are well prepared.
08:49We had meals.
08:52We had water.
08:53We had hot coffee.
08:54We had all the proper equipment.
08:56Okay?
08:57Now, you need to equip yourself properly.
09:01You need to have things in place.
09:03Where are fire officers going to get meals that hour?
09:06Thankfully, we had meals.
09:08And we were able to share it with them because I said to them,
09:11when we go in, we don't know what time we're coming out.
09:13Make sure you have fuel to embark upon what turned out to be a very torturous and adious rescue mission.
09:23And so we will continue to appeal for officers to be well-equipped and to have a support system to support them when they're out there.
09:35All right?
09:35And then we got good news, Mark, that the body we found on April the 17th in Barakpur was confirmed as that of Malini Passad.
09:49And that is what we wanted to hear because her body could not have been identified.
09:57It was heavily pecked on by Kobo, and this family has been waiting a couple of months, and they finally got the closure they wanted.
10:10And so Malini could have her funeral went, and we attended it.
10:16That was on yesterday's date, and we were just one of our deepest sympathies, the family of Malini.
10:23They're really sad Father's Day for the father, and of course, by extension, his relatives, his family, his wife, and the other daughter there.
10:33Our deepest sympathies to you and your family.
10:36I know it's a very difficult, it's never easy for a parent to have to bury one of their children.
10:42Yeah, and then our...
10:43Especially in circumstances like this.
10:44Two of our teammates attended different because they were so engrossed in the whole thing.
10:48And up to now, it's unbelievable to most of us that a 15-year-old life could have ended so tragically.
10:58And then on Saturday night, Mark, we embarked upon what we call the San Fernando Sweep.
11:05Over 24 in the year, 2024 to 2025, we have some elderly folks who are still outstanding.
11:13And what we decided to do on this night was to go out.
11:17Twelve of us went out.
11:19We split up, and we went out in different directions.
11:22And we were able to come across every homeless person in San Fernando District.
11:28We were able to speak with them, interview them, and see if they could have helped us identify these few missing, long outstanding missing persons.
11:38Of course, one is not longstanding, and that is still Marlon Henwood, who we keep highlighting on the program.
11:46And so we had a mission there.
11:50We were not successful in getting any information, but still we knew who to go to, who to speak with.
11:57We gathered information, and we still have to act on one piece of information with respect to Marlon Henwood.
12:04And that is taking place today.
12:07What we did here is that we've been featuring Marlon Henwood, not in his work.
12:14And we expect that he would have grown a beard by now.
12:17So what we did is we got an artist to put up some beard on him and to show something.
12:23Something, I think we passed it on to the family, and they said, yes, that is how his beard would be if he had grown a beard.
12:32And so this is maybe the person we're looking for right now.
12:37So Marlon is out there, and we want, you know, we really want to find him.
12:43Yeah, certainly, and then, you know, even over the weekend, apart from good weather, sadly, we had a couple of homicides.
12:52The murder count now stands at 179, comparatively to 256 for the same period last year.
12:59That's the figures I got from the TTPS this morning.
13:02And, you know, two women lost their lives over the weekend.
13:08One, unfortunately, a body was found in Carlson, Philly area, a 20-year-old Savannah Dyer.
13:15And then we had a couple that were shot in the DBA area last night.
13:21And her name was Mrs. Leonard, and her husband was also shot.
13:24And I was talking to a senior homicide officer just before the show, and he told me that apparently the couple lived abroad for quite a while,
13:32and they came back and they were renting.
13:34And they don't seem to have any history or any involvement, anything criminal.
13:38And it's really quite confusing at this moment who would have targeted them and why.
13:45I don't know if there was somebody who was in an attempted robbery even.
13:48Could be.
13:48Could be a motive.
13:49Yeah.
13:49So the police is also, that is also engaging.
13:52Yeah.
13:52It could be a victim of circumstances that they were there at that point in time and they were targeted if they don't have a history in Trinidad and Tobago.
14:00All right.
14:01Let's take a quick look now at our headlines.
14:22So those are some of the headlines within the last 24 hours, and none more so than the sad death of 20-year-old Savannah Dyer.
14:47You know, a couple hours before her death, she was seen in a social media video.
14:53This is the picture.
14:55She was wearing the exact clothing that she was found at the roadway in Carlson Field on Saturday morning.
15:05Apparently there was some wounds, a police observed on her head and so on.
15:12And I think that a lot of people also really were very upset that the images of this young lady were posted on social media in her deceased state.
15:26And, you know, we're asking people to be a lot more sensitive when it comes to things like that.
15:31That's sensitive because she belongs to her family, she has a mother, she has relatives, she has friends, and that is not for public consumption, right?
15:41That is absolutely not for public consumption, Mark.
15:47When we discover a body, we take a photograph of it, all right?
15:52And that is to send to the anti-kid napping unit, okay?
15:57That is for confirmation.
15:59That is probably a death.
16:02Well, of course, it is a human body and they need to activate the police to come to us.
16:07And that is, that's how we deal with them.
16:10Other than that, that photograph stays with me at all times, all right?
16:16No other member of the team has the photograph.
16:19I keep it.
16:20And we don't post that on our page at all.
16:25We'll just put body found, all right?
16:27You know, unfortunately, you know, there's no filter for social media in terms of what you can and cannot post.
16:33It's not like we're in a country where they're very strict on those things.
16:36But I think persons need to exercise some kind of judgment when they're posting photos of dead persons because of a victim of a homicide.
16:46You have to understand that even the media, the mainstream media, tries not to put those kind of images out there anymore.
16:52I know, yeah.
16:53Rather, you would see, like, maybe a crime scene, the police only seen, but not showing the entire body and so on.
16:58I agree with that.
16:58I agree with that totally.
17:00And persons must think, you know, a thousand times, act responsibly and think about the sensitivity of the whole thing.
17:08Yes, and you know, that video, of course, on police working very closely, cyber unit and so on, the ACP, Wayne Meister, has said that they're going to treat this with the highest priority.
17:23Let's just take a listen to Mr. Meister's audio over the last 24 hours.
17:28Police Service wishes to reassure members of the public that this matter is being treated with the highest priority, and we are committed to working closely with the community to bring those responsible to justice and to prevent future incidents within the area.
17:46In view of this, I have mandated the immediate rollout of the following public safety measures.
17:51One, increase mobile patrols in vulnerable zones within Carson Field, particularly during early morning and late night hours.
18:02Community outreach exercises to engage residents and raise awareness on personal safety, suspicious activity reporting, and crime prevention strategies.
18:12And collaboration with local government bodies to enhance lighting infrastructure in poorly lit areas, and installing of surveillance cameras, thereby reducing opportunities for criminal concealment.
18:27We encourage anyone with information to come forward and contact the Freeport Police Station or call 800-TIPS.
18:34Further updates will be provided.
18:36ACP, Wayne Meister, from the South Central Division, that he oversees that area, and of course, making a firm appeal to anyone out there with information, because those persons, those persons or persons, was with that young lady hours before her demise, and they have to know something about this.
18:57Yeah, and information is coming fast and furious.
18:59I mean, as a team, we would have gotten information, and we passed it on to the police.
19:05Yes, but Savannah adds to our list of women who have been through this entire thing over quite a few years now.
19:15Remember, you know, Andrea Barrett, we're dealing with Marika Harry.
19:21We had Isis James, and a lot of women are going through these things.
19:25Malini Pesad recently, and, you know, the violence against women is unacceptable in this country, and we have to do everything we can to, you know, fight against this.
19:40I was talking to one of the reporters downstairs, and he said, whatever become of this thing, where if you carry someone on a date, that you drop them home.
19:51Whatever became of that, it was cool, it's still relevant, it's still the right thing to do.
19:56And we're seeing the murders, the blood of our women scattered all over the country.
20:04And I agree with ACP Meister, because, Mark, we did some searches in the Carson Field area, and I think the area needs attention.
20:16Yes. All right, we're going to take a short break, and we'll be back.

21:52That is gone.
21:54This is Mary.
22:06Mary has bills to pay and takes a chance parking in front of the building at the no parking sign.
22:14Mary returns to her car and this is what happens.
22:17Mary decides to call when she's five minutes away to let her daughter know that she is close by.
22:30But Mary forgot one thing.
22:34Why?
22:35Second ticket for the day.
22:37I don't know, nah?
22:37I really don't know.
22:38Well, I tell you.
22:39After two tickets, Mary just isn't paying attention to her speed.
22:46You see, I've fixed my 18-0, that's my 15-15 kilometers.
22:49You have to take us up here for 15 years of going to test.
22:52It's a short hour of the people.
22:53Look out, the people passing.
22:54I ain't seen them.
22:55I ain't seen them, right?
22:57Eh?
22:58I ain't seen them.
22:58I ain't seen them, right?
22:58Eh?
22:59Don't be like Mary.
23:02Obey the laws of the road.
23:04A message from the TTPS.
23:06Welcome back to Beyond the Tape.
23:17I'm your host, Mark Bussan, joined today by Captain Valence Rambrath of the Hunters Search and Rescue Team.
23:22And I know you have some updates for the month of June.
23:24Yes, Mark.
23:25And for the month of June thus far, we've had 14 reports of missing persons.
23:30And we've been going good for June so far.
23:32We only have six outstanding, and of one of them, I know we close, close to closing that case.
23:39But Jeremy David is officially still outstanding, so we have to keep him up for June as yet.
23:46But something happened on Saturday.
23:48I was telling you, we have the search on pause.
23:52And on Saturday, his mother contacted me and told me she wanted to go to Princess Town.
23:58And when I asked her what was the reason, she said she wanted to say a prayer on the spot where that body was found in Princess Town.
24:07And remember, I said to you, we have information which speaks to that body being that of Jeremy David.
24:16And if the mother could, you know, come to that conclusion, I think is every reason to pause the search.
24:24So we have to await DNA testing on the body to confirm that it is Jeremy David.
24:31Then we have Terry Hingson is still outstanding.
24:36Of course, he was the person who fell off the rock on North Post Road, digomating off near the shoreline.
24:46And he's still missing no word, no word at all.
24:49And I did speak to the Coast Guard and all their efforts have been futile in this regard.
24:56And then we have Janiah Skinner.
25:00She's well known to us.
25:02And I don't know if you saw a report where she was taken to the Mount Hope Hospital for some better treatment by the St. Jude's home.
25:11And while they were waiting for her, she escaped into her waiting car.
25:16Now, I just want to say that the state spends a lot of money when these girls come into their care.
25:23And Janiah has been a very troublesome one since she was age 14.
25:28And we know Janiah since she was age 14.
25:31And she continues to want to escape.
25:36I don't know for what reason, but if Janiah is out there, Janiah, you're 16.
25:43You're getting help.
25:45You're getting help.
25:47And please, come out and go back to St. Jude's home for me.
25:53We know you well, Janiah.
25:54And then we have, this is the case, Kimberly Lane, Amelia LeFleur.
26:03We're working on this case in Arima.
26:05Not too much information.
26:07And the next person who is outstanding is Kimberly Lane.
26:12Kimberly, we have information on Kimberly Lane.
26:16And hopefully by tonight or tomorrow, we could get in contact with somebody who spoke to me earlier today and try to finalize her return home.
26:27And then we have an elderly person, Chas Daniel Felix.
26:32He's missing from the Point 14 district since the 2nd of June.
26:37So, we're asking, we have people from Point 14, if you could spot him anywhere, please call 799-1453 or the Point 14 police station.
26:50We need to get Chas home.
26:54So, Mark, that's basically what we have for June thus far.
26:58All right.
26:58So, we're hopeful that those persons that you highlighted there, at least some of them will be found pretty soon.
27:05And we know that some of the circumstances involving some of them is a little bit on ice right now.
27:10Yeah.
27:11So, you know, we just want to go back to, we talked about women who have been attacked and killed over the weekend.
27:19And, you know, it was really sad that there was a couple driving near the DV roundabout last night when gunmen opened fire on the vehicle.
27:30Excuse me.
27:30And apparently, Elizabeth Leonard, she was shot.
27:35My husband drove off, Premnath.
27:39Excuse me.
27:39And apparently, you know, she died later.
27:44In the car, the police was contacted and met them in the Rambut village area.
27:47The husband was shot in the mouth, arm and leg.
27:53I understand.
27:53He can't speak right now.
27:55But police say they're very stumped by this shooting because the couple does not appear to be known to them in any kind of activities or anything connected to that.
28:05So, it's a little bit confuffling at this point in time as homicide investigators still trying to ascertain a motive for this killing.
28:13For the killing.
28:14And that seems to be close to where we located our body in DV probably about three weeks ago.
28:22Trying to remember the name of the gentleman.
28:24But we did recover our body near a partial roundabout in DV.
28:28So, it could have been in the same area.
28:30Well, let's hope the detectives work and try to, you know, get the perpetrators.
28:39Could be a victim, as I said earlier, they are a victim of circumstances where a vehicle is just targeted.
28:45Or they may have been followed and targeted.
28:48They could have gone to the bank.
28:50They could have gone to purchase something.
28:52And, you know, they were under surveillance.
28:56And then the perpetrators decided, you know, to target them first.
29:01They are valuables.
29:03And it's unfortunate.
29:05Yes.
29:05And then we also had a homicide in the Malaba district.
29:10Apparently, police found, you know, somebody.
29:13This was actually, this one is in Lavantel.
29:16I think this was over the weekend.
29:18Police found, I don't know if this is, sorry,
29:21the victim was identified just yet.
29:24I think this victim was identified, right?
29:27Well, he was, this person was actually alive.
29:31So, he was taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
29:36And unfortunately, the other victim in the Malaba area,
29:40apparently he was shot and his body dumped out in the Malaba district.
29:45And I know that this is the Malaba.
29:47So, what we understand was that, you know, a lot of residents have been talking,
29:53they were speaking to the media over the last 24 hours,
29:57and they were talking about how that area is a little hotbed right now
30:01for criminal activities and incidents like this, shootings and so on.
30:06So, I guess they will be trying to, you know, forge a closer relationship
30:13with the police officers from the Northern Division,
30:15and we hope that they can help to stymie this upsage in that area there.
30:19Yeah, and I remember us being in the Malaba area,
30:25and at that time, it could have been a couple of years ago,
30:30and we were told that this type of killing was synonymous with some gang in the area,
30:37and this is how they do it.
30:38They just shoot and leave you right there, and they go their way.
30:41So, let's hope based on, again, a young man who would have lost his life.
30:49All right, we're going to take a short break, and we'll be back.
30:52Stay with us.

32:16This concludes our weekly press briefing.
32:20As the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service continues to protect
32:25and serve with pride,
32:26we are calling on all citizens of Trinidad and Tobago
32:30to get on board with us
32:32to ensure that everyone is able to live
32:35in a crime-free society.
32:38Are you on board?
32:42This is my country, and I am on board.
32:46I am on board with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
32:50Let us save the youth of the nation.
32:52Get on board.
32:53Crime affects all of us.
32:55Children, communities, and the country as a whole.
32:58Supporting crime victims and working with the police officers,
33:02I am on board.
33:04This is my country, and I am on board.
33:08My name is Nicolai Blackmon, and I am on board with the TTPS.
33:12Vision on Mission is proud to partner with the TTPS
33:17because crime prevention is everybody's business.
33:20We are the National Congress of Incorporated Spiritual Baptist Organizations
33:24of Trinidad and Tobago,
33:26and we are on board with the TTPS in its fight against crime.
33:30I am a farmer, this is my country, and I am on board.
33:34I am Charles Jason Gordon,
33:36the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Port of Spain.
33:39I am on board in the TTPS fight against crime.
33:42We are all on board.
33:50Welcome back to Beyond the Tape.
33:56I am your host, Mark Bussand,
33:57joined today by Captain Valence Ramburato,
34:00the Hunter's Search and Rescue Team.
34:03And we are quickly going to go to our segment,
34:05Voice of the People.
34:06We are still in Arima.
34:07First of all,
34:36So what is your biggest concern about crime?
34:40What I was about crime, you see,
34:42we like to point your fingers at people,
34:44at government.
34:46But crime is everybody's business.
34:48It's each and every one of us concerned.
34:50You understand?
34:50And so far, I see,
34:52the place wouldn't get better.
34:54It would just get worse.
34:56Well, the climate is really ridiculous here
34:59because, I mean, we just have got on the map.
35:01And it hasn't really affected me personally
35:05because it hadn't hit home.
35:07But seeing it out there,
35:09knowing that I'm a mother and a grandmother,
35:11it is not nice for people to be going through this thing.
35:13It is not comfortable.
35:15It leaves you with a kind of little fear.
35:17You know, sir?
35:18You're home.
35:18You have to be like a prisoner.
35:19You're out here.
35:20You have to be looking, looking, looking around.
35:21It's not comfortable.
35:22Well, you have things to do, right?
35:43Like, the youths and them need help.
35:47You have to get them occupied.
35:49You have to get things for them to do.
35:51And if you occupy all these hands,
35:53like in sports and little training skills,
35:55and besides that now,
35:57if you don't have a job out there for them to go to,
35:59you know what I mean?
36:00They will remain unattended again.
36:01So if you get them out of the road and active
36:04and things like these,
36:05you don't get them out of the crime.
36:07Home invasion.
36:10A man's house is a castle.
36:15You have a man, a person penetrates your house.
36:18You feel vulnerable.
36:19If many of you are here,
36:20the police are only suspects,
36:23people are treated.
36:24You still feel afraid.
36:27How are you home in your castle?
36:29The biggest concern is about crime.
36:32As far as I look at it,
36:34I know you're on the tape here.
36:36I find the police say,
36:37okay, man,
36:38seriously,
36:39police are not putting out the effort
36:41that they're supposed to put out
36:42to get rid of this crime thing.
36:44You're too relaxed.
36:45home invasions
36:47and the murders.
36:49One murder is one murder too much.
36:54And I understand,
36:55because when it comes home to you,
36:56then you will feel it.
36:58If the neighbor
36:59or somebody who you know
37:00come and get murdered,
37:01but when you reach home
37:03or somebody close to you,
37:06you will feel it.
37:06That's a serious thing
37:09and the authorities
37:10have to do something
37:12to be gently about.
37:18So, captain,
37:19all right,
37:20so,
37:21various thoughts there.
37:22One lady saying,
37:23you can't blame the police
37:25or the authorities.
37:26You know,
37:27it is a societal problem.
37:30And the other one saying,
37:31they feel the police
37:32could do more.
37:33Another person is saying,
37:36we need to engage the youth.
37:37And all of this is correct,
37:39right?
37:40Yeah.
37:40What we're seeing
37:41with the violent nature
37:44of crime in Trinidad and Tobago
37:45really is a productive society.
37:49In our,
37:50when we engage families,
37:52we see broken families,
37:54families that are in dire need
37:56of,
37:57you know,
37:58getting back together
38:00and being a proper family.
38:02We're not seeing that out there.
38:04So, therefore,
38:05you can't call on the police
38:06to fix everything.
38:07We have,
38:08families have to begin
38:09to fix themselves.
38:11That's a truism.
38:12And we need effort.
38:14Yes,
38:15I agree,
38:15we need effort
38:16to harness the youth,
38:18guide them
38:18in a proper direction.
38:20But we also need
38:21good role models,
38:22good fathers.
38:23We just had fathers.
38:24And,
38:25you know,
38:26we have to ask ourselves
38:28what is the role
38:29of our fathers
38:29in our children's lives today.
38:33And then,
38:34the gentleman
38:36who is saying
38:37the police could do more.
38:39I think what we need,
38:41really,
38:42from the police service,
38:43really,
38:44is,
38:44you know,
38:46those repeat offenders,
38:47those people,
38:49I don't know
38:50if it's entirely there,
38:52up to them.
38:52but,
38:53you know,
38:54there are certain things
38:55that could be done.
38:56I saw the SOE,
38:57and I think we've seen
38:59a reduction
38:59in gang violence
39:00and deaths.
39:02And so,
39:02you know,
39:02in terms of crime suppression
39:04activities,
39:05bringing new thoughts
39:06to the table,
39:07continuing to do
39:08what you do well,
39:10all these things,
39:11and coordinating everything,
39:13you know,
39:13that will also help
39:14in the reduction.
39:15Yes,
39:16and,
39:17well,
39:17we know that
39:18the new commissioner
39:18takes his police
39:19Well,
39:19let me take the opportunity
39:20tomorrow,
39:21Mr,
39:23well,
39:23it's now Senior Superintendent
39:24Alistair Guevaro,
39:26and tomorrow,
39:27he will be
39:27the new commissioner
39:29of police.
39:30Right,
39:30so let me take the opportunity
39:31now,
39:32to congratulate him
39:35to,
39:36has been selected
39:37as our next commissioner
39:38of police.
39:39To be honest,
39:40I have no,
39:41no knowledge
39:42of him,
39:43and the first time
39:44I heard the name
39:45is when it was,
39:47when the president
39:49would have sent
39:50the name onwards
39:51to the parliament,
39:53so I don't know
39:53anything about
39:54his background.
39:55I heard it from you
39:56on Beyond the Team,
39:58and I wish him well,
40:00and he has his work
40:02cut out for him,
40:03and several areas
40:05need attention,
40:07apart from just
40:08violent crime,
40:09you know,
40:09and we're talking
40:09about road safety,
40:11we do it a lot
40:12on this program,
40:12to pay attention
40:14to that.
40:15So he's a young man,
40:1651 years old,
40:17and for him
40:18to have
40:19jumped the line,
40:21so to say,
40:22and get to the position
40:24of...
40:24I don't think
40:24it's jumping the line,
40:25I guess it's based
40:26on his...
40:26Meritocracy.
40:28Based on his qualifications,
40:30his experience,
40:31and so on,
40:32the PSA
40:33would have chosen
40:34what they deem
40:35to be the best candidate
40:36out of the others.
40:37I think for him
40:38to have achieved
40:39that at 51,
40:40he had to be
40:41an excellent candidate,
40:43and so Trinidad
40:43and Tobago
40:44is also,
40:46you know,
40:46anticipating
40:47his stewardship
40:48of the police service.
40:49That is,
40:50let me take the opportunity
40:51to thank
40:52Junior Benjamin,
40:54who I think
40:54did an excellent job
40:56during the SOE.
40:58Forces were marshaled,
40:59we saw the evidence,
41:01we saw the statistics,
41:03we're seeing
41:03a reduction
41:04in homicide
41:05compared to last year.
41:07And so,
41:07I just want to
41:08thank him again
41:09for his service
41:09to Trinidad
41:10and Tobago,
41:11and the work goes on,
41:12and,
41:13you know,
41:14we wish
41:15the police service well.
41:16Yes,
41:17and we wish
41:17the commissioner
41:19in waiting
41:20all the best
41:20as he gets ready
41:22to assume
41:23the role of
41:23commissioner of police
41:24come tomorrow.
41:25All right,
41:26we're going to
41:26take a short break,

43:44A message from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
43:48A message from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
44:18Incidents similar.
44:19And this, I have to tell you, regardless of the fact of what this woman might have done, the treatment method out of her as she left this establishment.
44:29You have a man waiting there with an object in his hand, striking her.
44:34And then he is joined by two other men.
44:37Another man running there, striking this woman.
44:39And I'm asking anyone with information.
44:42We believe this would have taken some way in South Trinidad.
44:45I believe in the Gasparillo area.
44:47And another woman also joins in the attack.
44:52I mean, this is really brutal for us.
44:54The woman is shielding her head.
44:55And they are stamping and coughing and kicking her.
44:59And those two male adults should be more than ashamed for the way you have attacked a woman.
45:05You know, and I hope that the full brunt of the law is brought down on you guys, including that lady who also assisted in that attack.
45:14So, of course, anyone with information, please contact the nearest police station.
45:18If you know these individuals, make sure that the police can.
45:22I mean, even if this woman, let's just say, was maybe didn't have anything to eat, that should not have been met with such vigilante justice.
45:32Certainly agree with you.
45:34And their faces are visible.
45:36So, we are appealing to the folks in Gasparillo.
45:40If it did occur there to please come forward and contact your police station.
45:44Because this is unacceptable by any means.
45:47And Mark, the fact that another woman could have been part of that, that does not look good.
45:54But certainly, those two men must be brought before the courts to answer.
45:59Police always tell citizens about vigilante justice.
46:02Yeah.
46:03Right?
46:03And we also have another video similar to that, where apparently a man is held by several workers.
46:11And I am not certain if he stole something or he tried to take something that was not his in any way.
46:19Or he attacked someone.
46:21And, of course, he was surrounded and he was held by these persons.
46:24Of course, somebody in the video are imploring, you know, to stop beating him.
46:28Let's stop beating him.
46:29Let's wait for the police.
46:30To come and deal with the situation.
46:33So, we want to urge.
46:34I know sometimes emotions can run high.
46:37And when there's a number of persons there and one person has done something wrong and everybody's like, you know, let's make this person feel, you know, you are not the law.
46:48Right.
46:48You can apprehend the person, detain them, and have them in a location until the police arrives on the scene so that the police can actually do the proper thing.
46:58Arrest this person and take them to the police station where there will be questioned, of course.
47:03And then we'll have a number of witnesses.
47:05If this person isn't guilty of something, then they will do so by interviewing these people and so on.
47:10And I know it's a process.
47:11But sometimes taking the law into your own hands, sometimes you might end up in problems.
47:15Exactly.
47:15Because the person, if they suffer injury or happen to die because of what you inflicted, you're in problems.
47:23You just have to control the emotions, understand what you need to do.
47:27If it is that you have to physically wrestle the person to the ground, no problem.
47:32But I'm seeing cutlasses and sticks there.
47:35And you have to get hold of the emotions, make sure the person is secured, call the police.
47:42And let them deal with the person because they will have to bring a criminal charge against that gentleman for whatever he would have done.
47:51So, again, we appeal to anyone with information relevant to the first of the two videos that we showed you were considering that attack on that lady.
48:00We really would like to find out who these individuals are.
48:06And, of course, the police will take it from there.
48:08Yeah.
48:09Right.
48:10And a little more upbeat note.
48:11I know over the weekend you had a little HICAN plant.
48:15I know you were telling us about the event last Monday.
48:18Right.
48:19So, HICAN plant was organized by EcoTitans and the Fathers Association of Trinidad and Tobago.
48:26And we partnered.
48:27We came on board with them.
48:29Our market is interesting.
48:31You see those trees already planted.
48:32Right.
48:33Those guys down there, they've been rehabilitating some slopes that is just covered with grass.
48:39And they've been doing that for a number of years.
48:43So, what area is this?
48:45This is in Penile-Queenham Road in South Trinidad.
48:49It's along one of the roadways leading to the Queenham Beach.
48:53And this is a sight to behold when you see 10-year-old trees, 9-year-old trees, 8-year-old trees.
49:00And they're taking the team down to an area that still has to be planted.
49:04But the evidence of their work over a period of time is on display.
49:10And they would have prepared the holes.
49:12And what you did was to just grab the plants, hike a bit, and just plant.
49:19Make sure it's covered, staked, and a ribbon is tied to it.
49:25And you go back.
49:26And you assist during the course of the morning.
49:29We're transporting these plants today.
49:30This was on Saturday, yeah?
49:32This was on Saturday.
49:33It was a really, really beautiful event.
49:36This is where we've attended quite a few hike and plants.
49:40But you see, Mark, when you take your children to these activities, that helps with character building.
49:47That helps with role model, you know.
49:50And they learn from their parents.
49:53They may not grasp it right away.
49:56But when you reach 21, 22, and you start to face challenges in life, you reflect on what your parents did.
50:03Yep.
50:03And when you have your own children, you know, they will know what to do.
50:07So I am saying, just like the lady you're saying in the interview you did, right?
50:13Don't blame the police.
50:15We have to take a certain amount of the blame.
50:17We have to father our children in a manner to make sure they become good citizens.
50:25And reafforestation, planting plants, those are positive vibes, positive thoughts.
50:30And you see a positive outcome when they grow, and you can get a mango from a tree.
50:35Yes, indeed.
50:35And I just don't know if there's enough hours any day for you all, because one day you're in Chagaramas.
50:41Yeah, we...
50:41We are a high energy group, and nothing escapes us, right?
50:48So I was telling the reporter outside that I came in a bit sweaty, Mark.
50:55Right.
50:56And the reason for that is that I stopped on the road.
50:58I saw a guy trying to get the attention of a dog.
51:02I said, what are you up to?
51:03He said, check the rope on the dog.
51:05It was strangled.
51:06It's a stray dog.
51:08And he's feeding the dog, trying to get the trust of the dog to hold the dog to remove the rope.
51:13I said, listen, another day I would have stopped and got that dog.
51:17But not today, because I will have to muddy up myself.
51:21I'll go in on a program.
51:23But I told him to continue to feed the dog and get the trust, and he will get the rope off the dog and save the dog.
51:30And sometimes these animals escape from how they have been treated by the owners, and they run away because they have a instinct.
51:43And all this comes, you know, as a character building.
51:46And let's do the right thing because it's the right thing to do.
51:49Don't treat your animals badly.
51:51Have them take them to the vet regularly and treat them as their own child.
51:57Right?
51:58But we are a high-activity group, and we're always out there.
52:02We enjoy getting out there.
52:03But we enjoy getting out in the environment that suits us, and that's our forests and our grasslands.
52:08All right, we're going to take a short break, and we'll be back.
52:13Stay with us.
52:13Stay with us.
52:24Stay with us.
52:26But we have to do what we're doing.
52:26We're going to take a damn happy prank.
52:29We're going to take a short break, and we're going to take a short break.
52:32We're going to take a short break.
52:34Stay with us.
52:36Stay with us.
52:38Stay with us.

54:27It's the one and only DRE.
54:28Welcome back to Be On The Table.
54:41I'm your host, Mark Bassan.
54:42Joined today by Captain Valence Rambarat of the Hunter's Search and Rescue Team.
54:46We just have a couple of minutes left.
54:47But I know you have something else that was happening at Palmy's Park over the weekend.
54:51Yeah, and we had what's called a hound walk.
54:54Not us, but St. Patrick Hunter's Group.
54:56And, Mark, I'm highlighting these things, right?
55:00So, if the fathers out there are looking on, we're training you in a way to get your children,
55:06you know, your boys.
55:07These are boys' things, really.
55:09And so, here it is, Mark.
55:11Our hunters, they take so much pride to display their hounds.
55:16And they look forward to coming out three or four times in the closed season where we have activities such as these.
55:25And look at the display of the beagle there.
55:28Excellent quality hound dogs.
55:31And it takes a lot of money.
55:33It takes sponsors.
55:34And I enjoy the young hunters now.
55:36They're really taking it to another level.
55:38They have the sponsors.
55:39They have the communication.
55:41They're putting on a good show, and they're really showing hunters in a good light.
55:48And you could see the young man who came first there.
55:51He's a young hunter and takes pride in displaying his hound dogs, right?
55:55Yeah.
55:55So, that activity was on in Palmy's over the weekend.
56:00And then, we also were able to receive another, some free online tuition from Carol Sarawansin Jadunanan.
56:11And here it is.
56:13This is for digital literacy.
56:17Carol is there in the neon top with members of the team.
56:21And what it gives us to us, really, is the opportunity for our members and their families to access free online tuition with respect to ICT, information communication technology.
56:35And whether you want to do a Microsoft Word program or any other computer program, so that has been offered to us.
56:43So, our members will be engaging Carol to ensure that they become certified.
56:49Who hasn't been certified?
56:50And like me, I know I could do a lot with a lot of refresher costs, right?
56:54People can at some point.
56:56So, those were two, those were, we had an interesting weekend.
57:01And I just want to say that we're expecting rain sometime Tuesday on the Friday.
57:07There will be an extra tropical wave.
57:08Looking thus far, maybe back to back, for those people who want to plant, please plant now and don't wait for Thursday.
57:17Try and get your planting in before Thursday, right?
57:20It's going to be a long weekend.
57:21I want to wish them, everybody, a happy Corpus Christi.
57:24And a happy Labor Day as well.
57:26A important holiday as well.
57:29And I know that Corpus Christi will actually be celebrated, I believe, on the Friday.
57:32Because I know under the rule, under Section 32, when two holidays fall on the same day, it's entered.
57:40So, we have a long weekend, so we ask the same person to be safe on the initial roads.
57:44Surely.
57:44And be careful, call 799-1453 if anybody goes missing.
57:49Right.
57:50So, yeah, if anybody goes missing, we're hoping nobody goes missing over the long weekend.
57:54Weekend, yeah.
57:54Unless they want to, they don't want to be found, you know.
57:57All right, so, remember, we're running tonight at 11.30.
58:02Another repeat tomorrow at 11 o'clock.
