00:00Strongly cautioned, this program contains some material that is unsuitable for young children.
00:30Beyond the Tape, we'll be back after these messages.
01:00When I step back, LucasAge, bring the energy.
02:00Berberine Plus, powered by AMPK, perfected by nature.
02:30That's going to be four more.
02:42Now it's gone.
03:00Welcome to Beyond the Tape.
03:06Welcome to our viewers across Trinidad and Tobago, our international viewers and of course our brothers and sisters in the Isle of Grenada.
03:14Certainly it's day four of the state of emergency and I know there was a lot happening over the last couple of days.
03:21And with us today, of course, is Captain Valance Rambraat of the Hunters Search and Rescue Team.
03:27I know you have a lot on your plate to tell us about.
03:29Yes, sure Mark.
03:30And we had a very tough weekend.
03:32It was a tough weekend for different reasons.
03:35But when I left Beyond the Tape on Monday, we went to Endeavor.
03:42On Tuesday, we were in Bronte, Princess Town, looking for Elton Jacob.
03:46And Wednesday, we were in Biche looking for Jack Desdeen.
03:51On Thursday, as Trinidad knows, we were in Valencia.
03:55Friday, we were back in Endeavor and it was really tough on us because we were looking for about four missing persons and then we have a kidnapping for ransom to look after as well.
04:10So it was really, it's tough going now and we've been able to account for two of those persons.
04:15But let me deal with Valencia on Tuesday first.
04:21And Mark, I took a decision at 10.30 p.m. on Wednesday night based on very weak information that we should go to Rupuch Road in Valencia and conduct a search.
04:34And we began searching the area.
04:37We arrived there.
04:38I gave the wake-up call at 2 a.m. in the morning for our members.
04:43We left our homes at 3 a.m. and we arrived in Valencia at about 5.30 p.m.
04:50We visited the police station, informed them of our presence and we began searching at 6 a.m.
04:57And at about 6.30 a.m. we observed this suitcase.
05:03It was striking to us in the sense that it didn't look like rubbish.
05:10We thought it was a reasonably useful suitcase.
05:15It was pretty clean and we thought we should conduct a check on it.
05:21It just stood out of the ordinary in the bushes.
05:24Although it's a pond, you could see the water way beneath the grass.
05:29And we discussed it a bit and then I took the decision to call the police.
05:33They came and, of course, without knowing what was in it, they asked us to remove it.
05:39And when we removed it, there was a high stench.
05:41We brought it up to the roadside and then we were requested to open the suitcase.
05:48And when we opened the suitcase, I remember myself, another member, and a police officer approaching the suitcase.
05:58They were filled with plastic bags and stones.
06:02And as we opened the first bag, we were able to spot a human hand.
06:07Now, for the length of time she went missing, I personally thought the hand was in fairly okay condition.
06:13Probably, you know, we didn't touch or anything.
06:16We preserved it as a crime scene.
06:20But it was definitely a human hand.
06:24And this is our teammates, Hulk and Kuro, you know, trying to test it.
06:29We walk with this anywhere we go so we don't have to go down into the ponds.
06:35That is a hook and that's where we remove bodies and ponds with.
06:39There he is.
06:40You could see that it is heavy.
06:42And Hulk is trying it.
06:44Ended up four of us pulling it out to the roadside.
06:48And so we did call the police.
06:50The contents were examined and, you know, they took charge of the situation.
06:56But it is very unfortunate that this young girl had to undergo this fate.
07:06And this is the team here.
07:07All four of us getting it out.
07:09I imagine the rocks that were placed in the suitcase as well would have made it even heavier.
07:14Apart from the body parts that was in that suitcase.
07:19And I know that when you spoke about this discovery, I know it might have been something that, you know, for the average person might be difficult to digest.
07:30And I know even now, I imagine that mental picture is still very much in your mind and, of course, your team members.
07:39Yeah.
07:39And we always speak about that.
07:43Yeah.
07:43And we, and you know, on that morning we had two females.
07:48So those who are available will come out.
07:51So we had four males and two females.
07:53And it was tough on those two females.
07:55I mean, we are around, we are tough and we look after our mental health.
08:00So we could deal with, with these tough situations.
08:04But my mind focused on our two females that morning.
08:08And in terms of what was their reaction to having discovered this gruesome scene.
08:14Yeah.
08:14And we also had, had the father there on the scene.
08:17And I saw your photo of you with him.
08:19Yeah.
08:20And of course he later spoke with the media.
08:22And I can imagine for any parent, a very difficult situation to deal with, you know, although he said that he was not living with them, but he often visited them.
08:34Yes.
08:35His children.
08:36And he said that, you know, all through the missing period he never thought about her, not her being on her life.
08:45Yeah.
08:45He always thought that he would get her life.
08:48And Mark, as I said, we worked on it with very weak information on this case.
08:53And we didn't know anything about her case prior to this.
08:57But, you know, just the fact that it was there, it stood out, it looked unusual, and that caused us to examine it.
09:05And then we would have gone on to, we would have gone on to another mission that is for Elton John.
09:16Elton Jacob.
09:17Jacob, right.
09:18Yeah, Elton John is the second.
09:19Elton, the Barracore Police had called us in on Tuesday.
09:23Right.
09:24Asked us to join them in our search.
09:26And in the Barracore District, it was a massive search that morning on Tuesday.
09:32We were unable to find Elton on that day.
09:35But on Saturday last, a villager, a gardener, came across his body in a remote area about three kilometers from his home.
09:44So, what is showing on the screen there is us, but this is further away from the home.
09:50Right.
09:50I remember you had shown this footage last week where you were searching a particular area.
09:56Area, right.
09:57But this was even about six kilometers from his home.
10:00So, halfway between here and his home.
10:01Was he in any way mentally?
10:04No, he had dementia and he was diabetic.
10:07So, no foul play was suspected and we believed that he would have, you know, succumbed to the harsh outdoors.
10:16And then we went to Bish on Tuesday.
10:19We still have Mr. Jack, this Parag Dean, outstanding.
10:25In a similar case to Elton Jacob, he walked away from his home.
10:29And you see the people of Bishma, they come out.
10:33And these are all residents joining us in the search.
10:37And we conducted our search for the entire Thursday with them.
10:40Hopefully tomorrow I will rejoin, we will join with them again.
10:45Mr. Parag is still outstanding.
10:48And we feel that, you know, again, it's dementia, Alzheimer's, and they cannot return home.
10:56So, we may most likely head to Bish in the morning.
11:01And then we have Rishma Pura on last Monday.
11:05You know, a gentleman was watching me on the tape.
11:09And I said here we were going to Endeavor.
11:11And within minutes, he said, you all reach here so fast.
11:14We conducted a nice search there on Monday.
11:17And then we returned on Friday morning to resume the search.
11:23And despite the fact that we've been searching for her, we have not been able to find Rishma Pura.
11:31This is in the Endeavor District.
11:33And Mark, this video is showing the height of those, it's grass, cane grass there.
11:40And it's showing the type of vegetation we have to go through.
11:44So, as the video, as it swings back, you will see where, I believe, it's cool.
11:51Look at the height of those bushes he's trying to enter there.
11:54You know, just to see if we could locate anything inside of there.
11:57But we went on to search several areas in the central on that day.
12:02And then we went on to, well, yeah, so that's Rishma.
12:08So it was four days of tough stage.
12:10Sidney, you are very, hectic, I should say, because you're all over Trinidad and Tobago trying to locate these missing persons.
12:19Unfortunately, one of them, you know, you found deceased, well, two, sorry, one under tragic circumstances.
12:28I mean, both are sad.
12:29Yeah.
12:29But, you know, the young lady in particular, how she passed.
12:33All right, so it's day four of the state of emergency, and we have some figures to share with you.
12:41So number of operations conducted thus far, 269.
12:45Priority offenders held, 106.
12:48Sitches conducted, 1,692.
12:50Traffic operations, 139.
12:53And total persons arrested, 104.
12:56Traffic offenses detected, 876.
13:00Firearms recovered thus far, five pistols, two revolvers, one shotgun, and two rifles.
13:05Ammunition recovered, 41 rungs of 9mm, 8 rungs of 12 gauge, 16 rungs of .380.
13:1077 rungs of 5.56, and 6 rungs of .38.
13:15Dangerous drug seized, 1,900.
13:18And 96 grams of marijuana, and 6.2 grams of cocaine.
13:22So, you know, the police are really ramping up their efforts there to rid the country of, you know, illicit firearms, especially, and drugs.
13:32And then those persons that they believe to be involved in criminal activity, separate and apart, not just gang members, but other persons involved in other types of criminal activity.
13:41Yeah, and I like the SOE simply because they provide the statistics and, you know, the operations, and then you have the outcomes.
13:52So, I have checked 10 firearm seized in that data you just put up.
14:00And there's 10 less guns off the streets that could easily be 10 less murders in the country.
14:07And, you know, we have to really support the police service during this time.
14:13Sometime I was coming north, and there was a huge, was it?
14:17Yeah, it was north, and there was a huge roadblock heading south.
14:22And they were police officers.
14:24It was a roadblock, and I could imagine the inconvenience of the traveling public.
14:29But you have to understand that these are difficult times.
14:31Yes, certainly.
14:33All right, we're going to take a quick look now at our headlines.
15:35So, those are some of the headlines over the last 24 hours.
15:52There are a lot of crime-related headlines there, you know, firearms, army uniforms, etc.
15:57being seized by police in this ongoing operation across Trinidad and Tobago during this state of emergency.
16:06All right, so we actually had a shooting that was caught on camera over the last couple of days.
16:14I understand that the victim was identified as Ryan Barrett, the cousin of Andrea Barrett, and from what the police have been saying is that Mr. Barrett apparently had refused to pay extortion money.
16:30Okay, I'm not sure if this is a similar video.
16:35My apologies, but this is a shooting that was also captured, similar.
16:40Drive-by, occupants pulled up and shot the individual, and then a person came to his aid.
16:48Right, but he's accompanied his injuries.
16:51But I remember this video, and I don't think this is the Ryan Barrett.
16:57Yeah, this is not the one with Ryan's.
16:59Apologies.
17:00Yes.
17:00But this is a drive-by shooting, and maybe gang-related.
17:05You see how quickly the gentleman was shot, gunshots ran out, and they moved away quickly.
17:12So really it was, it could be gang-related.
17:16Yeah, and you see a lot of these cars now, you know, we talk about that tint, heavily tinted vehicles.
17:21You don't know, of course, unless you have permission by the transport commissioner.
17:25You know, but, you know, when you see these strange cars, we saw that in the Belmont-Gonzales shooting as well.
17:31And these people just pull up and stop.
17:33You know, immediately everybody starts to run.
17:35I mean, sometimes you're caught off guard.
17:38So, you know, certainly we hope that those persons responsible for those shootings will be held in the shortest possible period.
17:47You see, even coming out with masks, you know, ski masks and so on.
17:52And, you know, as I said, you know, they get access to a lot of uniforms and firearms.
17:58And they came for one guy.
17:59Yes.
18:00Because that guy who was scrambling to get away, they didn't even pay attention to him.
18:04So it was targeted.
18:05Yeah.
18:05And, of course, there was this unusual story that broke yesterday involving, you know, a hero of the day, rather,
18:13who had to climb a Ferris wheel to save a young boy who apparently, as you look at this, this is a young boy there in the front, in the black.
18:23His parents, she's a little bit behind walking.
18:26And shortly thereafter, you will see the young man trying to get into one of the, well, it's secured.
18:35It's like a cage on the Ferris wheel.
18:38And he apparently didn't get into one.
18:40So, I don't know, for some strange reason, he decided to jump onto one of those that was ascending.
18:48And you see it here.
18:49Yes.
18:49And in the middle of your picture there, he's holding on.
18:52Two persons tried unsuccessfully to free him from his grip.
18:57And then he goes, the Ferris wheel continues.
19:01And my question is to why didn't the attendant at that time stop the Ferris wheel at that particular time
19:08before Ferris wheel made a whole 360 degree turn?
19:11And on top of that, now, we have that gentleman by the name of Akil DeVins,
19:18who went and climbed the Ferris wheel to actually rescue this young man who was holding on for dear life.
19:27And that, in that, that cage, that, that Ferris wheel, the cage secured there.
19:33And thank God he did not fall while he was holding on before help came.
19:38Mr. Rambras.
19:39Yes, and, well, some errors in this entire situation.
19:44Because the area is enclosed and he ran into the area.
19:49I think the mummy could have reacted a bit quickly.
19:52Yes, agreed.
19:53Could have been a bit more alert to him entering that enclosed area,
19:58knowing that that Ferris wheel was a spinning machine, right?
20:03Yes.
20:03And secondly...
20:04There's a rescue, yeah.
20:05Yeah, this is the rescue here where Akil DeVins is climbing up on those pipes and cables to get him.
20:14Commendations to Mr. DeVins.
20:16Yeah.
20:16I mean, he put his own life at risk as well to rescue this young man.
20:21He did, absolutely.
20:22He was, he was, he was fantastic.
20:24Yes.
20:25You know, they say, heroes don't wear keeps.
20:28Well done, Akil DeVins.
20:30Yes, yes.
20:30And he was visiting with his family, yeah?
20:33He was, Akil was visiting with his family and, and, you know, saw what was taking place.
20:38And the second era, you pointed it out, the fact that the remote stopped, it took too long to get to the remote stop.
20:47So high, they actually almost made an entire 360 degree, because it started at the bottom and it reached almost, come back descending, you know?
20:55Right.
20:56So I, I, I felt it very strange that the attendant did not see it fit to stop the Ferris wheel.
21:03Exactly.
21:04I, I, as soon as he saw that child was, they, they didn't get, he got away from the two persons who tried, he should have stopped that, that Ferris wheel.
21:11And I think Akil claimed because he was anticipating the worst that, um, that child could have fell from that height.
21:17Of course.
21:17And it could have been a fatality or serious injury.
21:21So commendations to Akil, you did extremely well.
21:24We're proud of you, Akil.
21:25That's off to you, sir.
21:26You're a true hero in a sense.
21:28And we know that there's still some good people out there.
21:30Yeah, very good people.
21:31Whether it's your child or not, you're going to jump in and try to assist.
21:34All right.
21:34We're going to take a short break and we'll be back.
21:36Stay with us.

22:48Welcome back to Beyond the Tape.
22:58I'm your host, Mark Missan, joined today by Captain Valence Rambarat of the Hunter's Search and Rescue.
23:03Jim, I know you have to take us through your daily or monthly figures, rather.
23:07Yeah, for July 2025.
23:09And, Mark, today is the 21st and currently we have 29 reports.
23:14That's a lot.
23:14For July.
23:15And of the 29 reports of missing persons which we receive, we still have 12 who remain outstanding.
23:24And of the 12, well, we know about Christina Cato and she's under the jurisdiction of the Children's Authority.
23:33And we've dealt with her in the past.
23:35She's a repeat runaway.
23:37And hopefully, you know, she could be located.
23:40She's last seen in the Kunupia district.
23:43And Ashok Banwari had a chance to speak with the police officers there in the Aruka district.
23:51And Ashok, we have absolutely no information on Ashok.
23:56Firstly, because he's originally from Tobago.
23:59What we found out thus far is that he was in Trinidad.
24:02He was doing some work, but he had just sold his car for $35,000.
24:07And both Ashok and that $35,000 is missing.
24:11One of the problems is Ashok was living alone, rented in the Aruka district.
24:17So we have some issues there.
24:19We're working with the police to try to gather information on Ashok Banwari, his relatives in Tobago,
24:25extremely worried, Mark.
24:28Very, very worried.
24:29And then we have Nicholas Street, who is missing from the Mova district, age 44.
24:37We have no further information.
24:39We're asking people from the Mova district.
24:42If you have information, please contact 799-1453 or contact the Mova police station.
24:48If you have information on Nicholas Street, we need to find Nicholas.
24:53Also, similarly with Gaspar Williams-Henry, he's from the Aruka district,
25:03and we are having difficulty getting information with respect to his location, current location.
25:11And we're asking you to contact 799-1453 and pass on that information.
25:19Isaiah Regis is well known to us.
25:22This is the second time in a few months he has gone missing.
25:26We know that he was placed under the jurisdiction of a children's home, and he ran away from there.
25:34He's a young man who has been having a tremendous amount of problems.
25:38His parents have been having some challenges with him.
25:42And we want to ask Isaiah Regis to please return home.
25:47Your parents are worried, and the people at home, they are worried.
25:51And you have to continue your work at the school.
25:54So please return Isaiah Regis.
25:57Siobhan James is, you know, sometimes, you know, if we're conducting a search, you know,
26:05we feel harm may have come to somebody.
26:07We're wrapping our heads around this emissing person, Siobhan James,
26:13and hopefully, you know, we can get to the bottom of it by sometime midweek,
26:19and we'll have to make a determination on where we go in Point 14 to look for her.
26:25But thus far, we have no information coming into us or the family in terms of her whereabouts.
26:31And, you know, these cases, when they occur, you know,
26:34you have to determine whether, you know, whether harm came to them or not.
26:39And this is the case with Siobhan James.
26:41You know, similarly, that happened to Candice Honore.
26:46Right?
26:47It takes you a little while to figure out that harm may have come to her.
26:51All right?
26:51And Mahindra Daniel, we dealt with him again.
26:54He is from the Komoto district, and he is missing.
27:00So, we ask him, Mahindra, your mother, calling me every single day to find out, you know,
27:05if we have any information on you.
27:08So, hopefully, we could find Mahindra in the upcoming week.
27:11And then we have Dillian Nutt.
27:15This is our first time dealing with her.
27:18She has been missing from one of the homes, and the Children's Authority,
27:23they posted a bulletin on her.
27:25And hopefully, you know, we can make some improvements.
27:28When she was last seen in the Moruga area.
27:31So, if you have information on her, please call us at 799-1453,
27:36or the Children's Authority, at 996.
27:41Reshma, Furan, we've launched, we've completed two days of searches for Reshma, Furan.
27:49We have some CCTV footage of her returning home,
27:54probably around 8.30 a.m. on the 12th of July.
28:01And she just simply vanished.
28:04She was supposed to return home.
28:06And so, we continue to work and try and see if we could find Reshma, Furan.
28:11But we have, we feel that there's a possibility that Ham may have come to Reshma, Furan.
28:19Sati Karim is still outstanding, and Mark, and Sati is age 44.
28:28She was taken away because of September.
28:30Sunday before.
28:31Yeah, and so we're still awaiting word from her.
28:35We have unverified reports that are on someone's feed, and we can't verify that as yet.
28:42Yeah.
28:42And, you know, there's talk that she may be released later on tonight.
28:47But again, all those reports are unverified, and we continue to pray and hope that Sati is safe,
28:53and that she will be released soon.
28:55So, um, Jagdis, I dealt with Jagdis, Farag, Dean, earlier, and Jagdis suffered some dementia and was a stroke Alzheimer's.
29:07And at this point in time, we don't think that, you know, Jagdis, Dean, would have survived since the 15th out there in the bushes in Beech.
29:16It's just a matter of time.
29:17We have to push, and as I said, I may head there tomorrow with members to continue the search for him.
29:24But Beech is such a bushy area, and has so many side roads that it takes time to go through these meticulously.
29:34But we have, you saw the video, we have the support of the villagers, and that is most important, right?
29:40Now, Isaiah Lake is missing since the 14th, and Isaiah and his vehicle, a white Nissan Cube, silver Cube, PCZ 9817,
29:52has been missing since the 14th, and he left to go to work.
29:58He was, he was, he works shift, and he was going on the evening shift on the 14th of July,
30:05and we haven't heard from him since.
30:09So if you're from the Arima District, and you have information on Isaiah Lake, from Arima, please call 799-1453 or contact the police station in Arima.
30:22But Mark, these days when a gentleman and his car go missing, it raises red flag for us.
30:31All right, and again, we have put him in the category of that harm may have come his way, and we're working along certain lines.

32:59Welcome back to Beyond the Tape.
33:24I'm your host, Mark Bassan, joined today by Captain Valence Rambarat of the Hunter's Search and Rescue Team.
33:29Let's go quickly into your favorite segment, Voice of the People in San Juan.
33:33Let's go.
33:34Hello, wannabe!
33:49What are your thoughts on school violence in this country?
34:06Well, from what I've been seeing on the media so far, it's very violent.
34:15Children have no respect for teachers.
34:17Whereas in my days, you couldn't do that.
34:19We couldn't have an idea.
34:21Clube, you know, a suspension and that's a big thing with parents.
34:24But apparently it's a small thing now with the parents of today.
34:27So I find they should find some other alternatives.
34:31I mean, sometimes children just act out from things that happened in the past and they don't know how to deal with it.
34:36And that is a rating for them.
34:38So they know as soon as they do something, it will be on social media.
34:42So our media is our next point to do with it.
34:45It's like a fame thing.
34:47I don't know if that is how they look at it, the new generation.
34:50But that is how I like it from my point of view.
34:53Because in my days, you can't even lose respect for teachers.
34:57You were frightening.
34:58My friend, one coming, the one watching me real bad in school, like I just bash on any school.
35:04And like I said, nothing now for modern day children.
35:08What do you think should be done to stop this kind of school violence or should be implanted in schools to assist in this?
35:16Well, more than police, police assistance, maybe come in and talk to the kids two times a week.
35:27And maybe they had to go back to lines and writing, things to respect for their friends, respect for their teachers, the peers.
35:35I don't know.
35:36But I pray for my daughter to go to school.
35:39I mean, she's in private school now.
35:40And I had one who was in school, who live in school now.
35:45And I pray for them for the modern world.
35:48And I pray for she now going into second age school, which is a few years now, so I don't know what will happen.
35:53But I pray that something could change within their lives, man.
35:56Because just now you are in private school home, children home alone.
36:01Should parents be hella comfortable for the actions of their children when they're fighting school?
36:06At some point, at some point, but some parents need training as well.
36:12And how to deal with training in that one.
36:14I mean, Lex is not everything.
36:16Lex helps some of us.
36:17Lex didn't help some of us.
36:19So I think they should look for another alternative.
36:21That they could maybe do some kind of counseling.
36:23When the children had like two errors in the school compound doing wrong,
36:28maybe they could do a social awareness and how to deal with their peers in school and their teachers
36:36and respect and discipline and things.
36:39That's what I think.
36:40That makes sense.
36:42Of the people, Captain Rambarat.
36:46Yeah, Mark.
36:46And she raised a very important point.
36:49Mark, for parents whose children just got through the SEA exam 2025,
36:56you know, was their greatest fear.
36:59Their greatest fear is not the challenge of the child entering the school
37:03and coping with a new curriculum, you know.
37:06The fear of parents, the school violence.
37:10And when you speak with them, you know, they're very concerned about bullying.
37:15They're very concerned about, you know,
37:17the fact that there is some measure of extortion in the schools as well.
37:24And physical violence.
37:28And she raised that point that she has a daughter at the center school.
37:32The daughter is in primary school still.
37:34And that's one of her greatest fear.
37:37And that fear is manifested in many homes currently today in Trinidad and Tobago.
37:42And she spoke about programs for parenting in terms of should parents be held accountable.
37:49Mark, I'm a former school administrator.
37:53And schools do this all the time.
37:56They're calling.
37:56In fact, we really look forward to persons coming in to speak to the children.
38:02It's not all talk and talk or academic work.
38:06We always enjoy persons coming in to speak with the students,
38:11knowing that, you know, they have to go into, you know, good citizens.
38:16They've got to have social skills, social life skills.
38:20And we know what is needed.
38:22But the truth is that sometimes all of this is not enough
38:29or all of these strategies would have failed a certain individual, children.
38:36And that's why I continue to say that the end result is if they continue to do what they do,
38:42put them before the courts and then the courts decide their future in terms of violent behavior towards another human being.
38:52All right.
38:53So earlier on, we were talking about the heroic rescue by Mr. Akil Devines.
39:00And we wanted to put a face to that person because, of course,
39:03you just saw him mounting the Ferris wheel there going.
39:08So this is Mr. Devines speaking with TV6 and the Express earlier today at our building.
39:18You know, very, very humble guy.
39:21And, you know, I guess he said he had messages for parents as well.
39:25You know, you have to be mindful of when you have your children around,
39:28you have to be looking at them and so on.
39:29And, I mean, it's a message, a universal message,
39:33especially now that we are on school holidays and you're taking children out.
39:37You have to keep your eyes on them every single second of their time
39:43that you're spending with your children out there.
39:46And, you know, as a team, we were looking at Akil's heroics, right?
39:51Yeah.
39:52We were saying he was tall.
39:54He was able to get up those pipes and cables.
39:58He was very athletic.
39:59And, you know, if Akil wants to join Hunter's Search and Rescue Team,
40:03we have a Northwest unit, call us Akil.
40:05Open invitation, Akil.
40:07Open invitation for you to come and join.
40:09You certainly have some good skills and you're brave.
40:12So come join us.
40:14All right.
40:14Let's see how that goes.
40:15We're going to take a short break and we'll be back.

43:00Brought to you by the Bankers Association of Trinidad and Tobago.
43:03Welcome back to Beyond the Tape.
43:13I'm your host, Mark Bussan, joined today by Captain Valence Rambarat of the Hunters Search and Rescue Team.
43:18And we just wanted to remind persons who might be seeking information related to your FUL or related to getting a license.
43:30You can call 627-5217, right there.
43:35Extensions 12410, 12411, or 12412.
43:43And, you know, a number of persons would usually reach out, of course, on the social media platform of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
43:50And what they also do is, they have certain questions that the police service will now post up.
43:57And this is one of the questions I was asked.
43:59Why is a letter of consent from a spouse or adult residing in the applicant's home required?
44:05Does this mean single persons cannot apply?
44:07This letter is required as part of the investigation into the applicant's temperate habits and character in accordance with Standing Order 40, Section 8, B1, B2, sorry.
44:18However, single applicants living alone are fully eligible to apply for FUL applicants.
44:24There are no other fees to be paid.
44:27So, anything you would like to add on that?
44:30No, no, I think they were right to make the clarification because there is some doubt about that going around.
44:38And, um, single maids have been asking the questions, right?
44:41So, they know it's very clear now.
44:43And, um, single maids, if you're living alone, you can apply for your firearm.
44:48Yeah.
44:49There's also another question that was also asked.
44:51Can I submit my application directly to the firearm section or must it go through my district police station?
44:58Interesting question.
44:58It is recommended that all new applicants, or applications, sorry, be submitted directly to the firearms permit department.
45:07So, directly, not through a district police station.
45:10And, again, thanks for the clarification because I know members of the public who are now submitting, they're taking it straight to the firearms section.
45:19Yep.
45:19All right.
45:20So, we have, uh, this gentleman.
45:23He's been missing for quite a while now.
45:25Lincoln Thomas Charles, photo on your screen, last seen in the Port of Spain area on July 10th, 2025, wearing a blue pants, a gray jersey.
45:35So, you're asking anyone with information to call 339-59-40 or 346-2118 or the nearest police station.
45:47And, perhaps, even the hunters, a generous cue now.
45:48Yeah, yeah.
45:49And, we will get on top of it as soon as I, um, as soon as I exit the, I will leave here today because, um, we'll want to call those numbers and see what is the background story to him going missing.
46:00And, um, you know, how we could possibly, um, assist the family in trying to locate him.
46:05Yeah, certainly.
46:06Yeah, so we will help in this regard.
46:08You know, over the weekend, you know, we always tell people to try and be safe on the roads, right?
46:12Mm-hmm.
46:13But, you know, sometimes, I don't know, people don't listen at speed or under the influence or something.
46:18And, we had some horrific accidents over the weekend.
46:22We had a road traffic accident involving a family on Friday night.
46:27And, um, there, this is, this is the accident here.
46:31Um, you know, it caused, um, some traffic.
46:34Um, there were a lot of ambulances there on the scene, police on the scene.
46:38Um, you know, a person was injured in, in this, um, still in the car there, as you can see.
46:45And, um, there was somebody lying on the ground there on the roadway.
46:49Mm-hmm.
46:50So, we had to thank the Lord that there was no, um, fatalities in this one because it was a family, um, occupied vehicle.
46:59Yeah.
46:59Family was inside the vehicle.
47:01And, um, this could have easily turned into fatalities.
47:06So, please be careful on the nation roads.
47:10We cannot, um, overemphasize that.
47:13We have to keep repeating it so that, you know, you could get it, get into the habit of driving safely.
47:19Yeah.
47:19Well, we're hearing that it's possibly somebody might have been, uh, a road fatality.
47:24In this one?
47:25In that particular one there.
47:27All right.
47:28Yeah.
47:28I think, uh, the producer saying that the 60-year-old woman who was one of the, uh, passengers in the car passed, unfortunately.
47:37So, condolences to the family.
47:39Yeah.
47:39And, um, and same, same thing we were saying because remember some time ago, and all, my entire family, all five occupants eventually died.
47:48Right.
47:49Down in the Claxton Lake District.
47:51Yeah.
47:51That was actually in the Cariney Southern Main Road area that that accident occurred.
47:56Yeah.
47:56Just for clarity's sake.
47:58And then there was also a really horrific accident involving a motorcyclist in the Diggomartin area.
48:03Um, you know, he's from the Diggomartin area, um, so I, I'm not certain where the accident actually happened, but he's from the Diggomartin area, but he seemed to have suffered head injuries and otherwise.
48:17Uh, persons attending, uh, persons attending, or it happened in the Arima area, so persons are attending to him on the scene there, waiting, waiting the arrival of the ambulance.
48:25There's the motorcycle involved, um, and, uh, you know, you see, um, you know, what is left of it.
48:33Right.
48:34So I'm seeing a, a bloodied right leg, so it means, therefore, that he would have most lookups there.
48:39And his head, as well, was damaged.
48:41So it seems to be, um, that he would have skidded off the, skidded on the road and, um, impacted on the asphalt, which would have caused severe bruising, so that those injuries are consistent with bruising, and these things occur with the motorcyclists.
48:57Yeah, and I, I would, I would have hoped, I don't know if you had on a helmet, because.
49:01Well, we have to ask that question.
49:02I'm not sure if, you know, because usually those helmets are very tough, so.
49:07And they're required by law.
49:08Of course.
49:09You have, you're supposed to be wearing them once you're on top of that motorcycle.
49:14Yeah.
49:14Now, there have been a couple of troubling incidents over the last few months at the airport, and we had an incident at, was it at Tobago?
49:23I can't recall.
49:25I, I, I read about it.
49:26I saw it on social media.
49:27Yeah.
49:28Um, but this, this looks like Piaco.
49:32Right.
49:32This looks like Piaco.
49:34Right.
49:34And, um, what, what we, what we read was that, um,
49:38was that, um, the gentleman was able to get through the scanners and immigration, and when he was found there, as we're viewing there, he had a firearm in his possession.
49:50So, we're not clear on his intention.
49:53Yeah.
49:53Um, at this point in time, but the officers would have certainly, um, done a terrific job in, you know, in terms of intercepting him at this point.
50:04Yeah.
50:05Because any, any, no interception at this point may have led, uh, to something where, we don't know what his intentions.
50:12We don't, we're not sure of his intentions, as you said, but, you know, the, the commission of police, Mr. Alistair Guevara, had indicated a couple weeks ago that the police was also ramping up this presence at the Piaco International Airport.
50:26In the light of that shooting that took place a couple weeks previously, and, um, you know, you've actually seen more police officers, um, walking inside the foyer.
50:37Uh, I, I was there a couple weeks ago, and, you know, outside as well.
50:41That's good.
50:41To add that visibility, that, that, that, that extra layer of protection.
50:45Because, you know, a lot of the, the, the officers there, they're, they're, they're, from the airport's authority.
50:51Yes, they are also on the, on the lookout.
50:54But then, you know, you can only be in one place at a particular time.
50:58Yeah.
50:59Um, so it's, it's, it's, it's a, it's a, it's a large area, you know, you have to kind of, um, patrol at times.
51:04So the added comfort of the police at the airports gives, uh, even passengers arriving and, and, and coming in that extra sense of, of safety.
51:14Yeah, and, you know, an additional layer of security.
51:19But those officers did, Mark, they did extremely well to intercept that gentleman.
51:24Because you don't know his interception.
51:26I mean, I, I, we have to commend them for that.
51:29They did extremely well.
51:30Yeah, certainly we want to commend, uh, the officers of the airport's authority of Trinidad and Tobago for the excellent job that they did in, in, in, in apprehending this man, uh, before he got even further.
51:42I don't know if he was trying to board a plane.
51:45I don't know if he was, had intentions to attack somebody, uh, working inside the compound in that area that is, uh, not a lot of people are, get, get access to the normal public.
51:55So, it, it, it, it raises questions as how he was able to get past a scanner.
52:01A scanner.
52:02With a firearm.
52:02Which would have detected the firearm.
52:05Yes.
52:05Right?
52:06And we know how immigration is at the Piazza International Airport.
52:09You must go through that scanner.
52:12Yeah.
52:12So, um.
52:13Well, the thing is, whether or not the firearm was in his possession, or did he have it hidden in a location by someone, when he got past the scanner and he got into the confines of that area airport.
52:24And all this, all this thing could happen.
52:25You have to look at those things.
52:26Yes.
52:26I commend the officers because it could have easily turned into a, a, a, a, a, airjacking or something like that.
52:34Or, you know, you know, but they did extremely well to intercept that gentleman.
52:38Yeah, and we are thankful for that good job, the good work that they did, rather, in suppressing any kind of incident, because we've had enough of that, and we really don't want another incident like that happening at our international airport, where you have visitors coming in and out, and, you know, it traumatizes people when things like that happen.
52:59Yes, it does. We don't want any stain in terms of our international image.
53:03Yeah, and it's taken a hit over the last couple of months, most definitely.
53:07Completely, fully, it has taken a hit, and we have to do and improve our security at our airports to ensure you know that everything goes well there.
53:16Yep. I don't know if anybody has any questions, call us, but the numbers are there, 623-1711, extensions 1996 and 1997.
53:29So, Mark, I don't know if you could deal with it on the program, but I was reading an investigative report by yourself.
53:36And it comes across as a type of crime in Trinidad and Tobago, and it's scamming persons and trying to defraud persons, trying to woo investors when you don't have a financial background to see that with anything that would support or bring, you know, revenue to these or interest to these persons.
54:06Yeah.
54:07And it has been going on. I read it and I thought to myself that we're probably in the fourth tranche of these scams in recent times, and these people seem to still woo investors into their establishments.
54:22And these investors keep losing their monies and they're not getting any interest. And I wonder why it is people would take their hard-earned money and approach these persons for investment.
54:37It's the way the person convinced them. And, you know, it's really sad because people have invested millions of dollars. I mean, I spoke to persons, lawyers, doctors, professionals.
54:50I have seen some numbers there in your article where, you know, 750,000, 500,000, and I know I was stunned. I was stunned. So I think coming out of that article, we should advise people to stick with the tried and tested investors out here.
55:12Well, I'm hopeful there will be an officer from Fraud Squad sometime very soon on the program.
55:18On the program.
55:19We can talk about that a lot more, but we have a caller. We have a caller. Caller, good evening.
55:26Good evening, caller.
55:28Good evening.
55:29I can barely hear you.
55:31Yes, can you hear me now?
55:33Yes, go ahead, quickly.
55:34Okay.
55:35Okay. I wanted to ask a question pertaining to the mental health issue of Canada, where parents live in fear of their mentally ill children, and they have no reports. Can someone tell me how is this being addressed, please?
55:51Okay.
55:52Okay. I want to take a question.
55:54I think in terms of the mental health, now you're saying that parents live in fear of their children who are suffering from mental illness. Now we've had two cases recently, Mark, where children murdered their parents.
56:12One was in Irie village. I know I remember that one clearly. And then there was a second one recently where a son murdered his father. And you should go, first of all, make a report to the police station.
56:28But the health centers in Trinidad and Tobago, when you approach them, they are the necessary clinics. We advise persons on a daily basis how to approach mental health. The person has to be diagnosed. They, first of all, have to be evaluated, diagnosed, and prescribed treatment given to them.
