02:06That's going to be four more.
02:08That is gone.
02:28Welcome to Beyond the Tape. I'm your host, Mark Bassant. Welcome to our viewers across Trinidad and Tobago, our global viewers, and of course, our brothers and sisters in the Isles of Grenada.
02:39Certainly a very bloody weekend on the nation's roadways. Five fatalities unfortunately recorded.
02:47I believe three pedestrians were struck and killed while two young men lost their lives in a road traffic accident along the highway, I believe, near the Chagones area there.
02:59So certainly, you know, we always keep talking about road safety, especially on a Friday evening before we leave.
03:06We always let everyone know, please try to be safe on the nation's roadways.
03:11And of course, unfortunately, five more persons died over the weekend, and that pushed the road fatality number to 71 for the year.
03:22Corresponding period last year was 70, so we are just about one above that figure.
03:27Today with us, of course, is none other than Captain Valance Rambrat of the Hunter's Search and Rescue Team.
03:34How was your weekend?
03:35Well, Mark, it was a tough weekend, really, really tough weekend, and even today was tough because today is one day, you know, normally I would take a Monday off, or the team would take a Monday off.
03:47But we were quite in the Rio Claro district this morning and conducting a search, and it was a bit of a rush, of course, to, you know, finish off there.
03:55I left the team there, finish off to hustle to get on to be on the team to fulfill these duties.
04:02But a pleasant good evening to our viewers on Beyond the Tape and TV6, and it's always a pleasure to be here, Mark.
04:09Mark, I know this week was hectic for us, and we've been having some tough searches during the past few months.
04:17The couple that went missing in San Fernando, whose bodies it was assumed was dragged out to see, that is Samuel Montano and Zahida Mohammed.
04:26And people sometimes don't know the depth of the resources we have, but we're very skillful at sea searches, and, of course, you know, we have our drone team for aerial searches.
04:37So our teammates down in southwestern peninsula, they were able to get on board a boat to cover the mangrove area from Ariparo to Otahiti.
04:49This is Ravi Ramratan there, and he spearheaded this search mission, and they also conducted aerial surveys of the mangrove area.
04:58You know, there are a number of inlets there between Ariparo and Otahiti, and they were able to do a drone survey of the area, as well as a sea search of the coastline there.
05:11Nothing was found, so both Samuel Montano and Zahida Mohammed remains missing at this point in time.
05:21So that's an ongoing search, and then this morning we were in the Rio Claro district over the weekend yesterday.
05:27We started at 8 a.m., we finished at 7.30 p.m., a whole day.
05:32And this morning, looking for this guy, my good friend, Theodore B. Scornpat, 67, missing from Ottawa Village.
05:39He was picked up by his mechanic, and a worker, and taken to the Rio Claro district.
05:45And we were there searching for the entire day yesterday.
05:48It was tough going, having to beat some good bush, search some ponds, and, of course, the drone team was with us there,
05:56trying to help us do those open areas, so that we wouldn't have to go in that type of grass you see right behind the drone.
06:04So once it's those grasslands, we fly the drone, but in thick undergrowth, we have to go in ourselves.
06:10Beast remains missing, today's 20 days, and we are determined to find him.
06:16He's my friend, and I'll be there, searching for him in the morning, together with our team.
06:22And then, after that, we continued to look for Rishma Puran from Endeavor.
06:28Today makes it about a month, he has been missing.
06:32And we got a call about something stuffed in a bag by a bridge in Eddingwood 500.
06:40This is members of the central team here.
06:42And they were in, out and about, and this is Steven Stinn, and I'm trying to, we got a call about something with a stench in the Eddingwood 500 bridge.
06:55And there it is, he's, it's in a bag, and he's slitting the bag there, Steven, well-trained guy, and only to discover that ram-cram inside, there was a dead dog.
07:05But these, sometimes, are the call-outs we get in search of persons, because once you get a call like that, Rishma Puran, who is missing from the central district, is always on your mind.
07:16So you have to make every effort to check every lead, to check, make sure you check every call.
07:22And so, it's been, it was a tough week for us, and we continue to conduct searches during the week and weekends.
07:29Yep. Certainly a very busy weekend there, and we were hopeful that those persons that you're relentlessly trying, are trying to find, we would find some closure for those families, or bring them home to their families, as the case may be.
07:44As the case may be, yeah.
07:46So I want to switch to, of course, to, you know, the topic of the day, that carnage on our nation's road race.
07:52And, of course, you know, we're starting from the most recent, I was almost caught in that traffic, because I was going south, and I got a call about the accident.
08:03That was the one in Charleyville.
08:05Right in El Secorio here.
08:06Oh, this one is the person.
08:07That's the one that happened yesterday afternoon.
08:09Yep, right there.
08:12Apparently, the person was identified as Negua Clausel, struck by a vehicle.
08:18It's from the Petonville-Karapo area.
08:21The van was heading east, and he was struck by that van, lying on the roadway there, of course.
08:29And, you know, we've always encouraged us, pedestrians, please do not cross the highway.
08:35There are walkovers for that.
08:37And we still see persons trying to cross in areas where there's a heavy traffic flow, as well as, you know, it's a highway, so vehicles are going at a particular speed.
08:49Yeah, you have to be very careful.
08:51And I agree with you that this system, crossing these busy roadways, condolences go out to his family.
08:58And I believe that was one of three pedestrians who, unfortunately, died.
09:05One of the persons was killed, was unidentified.
09:09And then there was one in the penal area, a gentleman by the name of Habib John, 47 years.
09:16You know, he was walking with a little woman, and he pushed her out of the way.
09:19And the vehicle struck and killed him.
09:22Yeah, and in that case, what I was told was that there were depressions on both sides of the road.
09:27It appears to be two landslips side-by, on opposite sides of that piece of roadway.
09:32So it was a bit narrow, the vehicle probably did not have full access.
09:38But still, you have to be drive with care, due care and attention, because it meant that without the full roadway,
09:46pedestrians would have to walk onto the roadway to get across in that area.
09:51And I know the area in Penal, it's a remote area, and you're accustomed with pedestrians being on the road.
09:56So it called for more due care and attention in those areas where we still have citizens who have to use the roadway
10:03to move from one area to another, maybe from home to a shop.
10:07Yeah, certainly.
10:08And we also had that sad event on Saturday night, I believe, was it?
10:15Yeah, it was Saturday night into Sunday morning.
10:17Into Sunday morning.
10:18In the Charleville area, two young men, 18-year-old Adrian Nima and his neighbor Randall Mungu, 37.
10:25They're from South Trinidad.
10:27And I distinctly remember reading in the newspapers that the father of the younger man, the 18-year-old, had said,
10:34stay home today.
10:35Yes, he did say, and the mother said so as well.
10:37And they were wary of the fact that the elder gentleman in the vehicle had the tendency to drink and drive,
10:44and drive at fast rate.
10:46And they were attempting to disist their son, who just turned 19, I believe, or is 18, from going with him.
10:55Now, Mark, you were once 18, and that is a crucial age for children, especially a boy, children, and vehicles, right?
11:06When my son turned 18 and he was using our vehicles, he got his license.
11:11Thank God he was very careful.
11:12But you find a lot of UWE students, and I don't like those stories, where they get into accidents, and unfortunately, they are unalived at the end of it, right?
11:23This is a young man, in the prime of his life.
11:27His mother said he may have gotten a job at two institutions.
11:31And those things were coming up, and here it is, he lost his life.
11:35Well, I know that the relatives of the Mr. Mangru indicated that, as far as they knew, they had spoken to him around the Coover area,
11:43and he didn't seem to be in any way intoxicated.
11:46Right.
11:47And they were saying that perhaps, maybe the speed would have been a factor.
11:51Or it could have been lost control of the vehicle.
11:54Or it may not entirely be the driver's fault.
11:58We don't know.
11:59But the thing is, these young men on the road at those hours of the morning, they do scare the parents.
12:07The parents are really scared.
12:09They wake up, waiting for their loved ones to come home.
12:13That's it.
12:14All right, we want to take a look now at a video.
12:18It's a very disturbing video.
12:19A vigilante justice meted out at one of the Poplar beaches on the North Coast, captured.
12:26And police is asking anyone with any information about this incident.
12:32You see several men beating one person, kicking, coughing, slapping, dragging him.
12:39You know, and the senior superintendent for that area, Ms. Claire Guy Allen, is asking anyone with information about this particular incident to come forward.
12:51It's really disheartening that persons will see people being beaten.
12:56And nobody would even try.
12:57I know it's a lot of people, but nobody would even try to intervene in numbers at least.
13:01Because certainly it's a very alarming thing to see one person being attacked by 10 or 15 persons.
13:09And if that person who was injured can come forward either to the Mova Police Station or the Maracas Bay Police Station,
13:17please reach out to the relevant personnel.
13:20The police wants to find out what really transpired and, of course, to bring those perpetrators to justice.
13:26Yes, Mark, and that's an advantage.
13:29That is a serious advantage.
13:30And the young man at the receiving end ought not to have gotten that amount of blues from all those guys, right?
13:37And I'm looking at the dresswear, the guys, and I'm thinking, you know, what would they engage in?
13:45I know there's an ongoing chair war, beach chair war on Maracas Beach.
13:50I thought it had ended, but something has me thinking that probably this may be the reason
13:57and the authorities and the management of the Maracas Beach facility has to do more to prevent that
14:04and allow persons who have the rent chairs to do so and choose wisely
14:10and to ensure that the operators operate their business up to a standard that has quality control in it,
14:19that has behavioural control and ethical standards attached to it.
14:24We do not want this type of behaviour from people who are renting chairs.
14:29People who feel it's a free country, free enterprise, you feel free to rent chairs on who you want
14:35and operators must know that. It's not a competition.
14:38Yeah. And in light of this, of course, the senior superintendent have indicated
14:42that the police will be stepping up patrols along that beachfront.
14:47And as I said before, if you have any information about this incident that can assist police
14:51in not only identifying the perpetrators but finding the victim,
14:55please do not hesitate to call 800-TIPS, of course,
14:58or call the Maracas Bay Police Station or the MOVA Police Station.
15:03All right. And on a flip side of that, of course, we have some good news.
15:09You know, Aranguist farmers came together sometime this morning
15:13and they caught a man who allegedly was stealing from the farmlands.
15:19Pretty unlarceny. Police was there within a flash to also take that perpetrator into custody.
15:28And that makes me happy, Mark, because, you know, these farmers have been under pressure for some time.
15:35And it's a striving business against criminal activity where you go into lands
15:40and harvest people's produce and take it to the market.
15:44So kudos. I hope he wasn't beaten, as we've seen in other videos.
15:48It seems as if he's okay.
15:49But kudos to the farmers and the residents in the Aranguist area
15:54who ensured that the perpetrator was caught and they did the right thing.
15:58Yes.
15:58Because you said it's good news, it's great news.
16:01Call the predial ass in his court, hand him over to them, and they were taken from there.
16:06Yeah, and there was no force used.
16:08They obviously called the police, may have detained them or restrained them until they came there.
16:13And let the law enforcement do their work.
16:17And this is what we mean by living in a civil society.
16:20There are rules, there are organizations, there are institutions that handle these problems.
16:26And there is a limit to which ordinary citizens, what they can do.
16:30But they did the right thing and they did it in a peaceful, meaningful way
16:35to ensure that the perpetrator ends up in the hands of the law.
16:41All right.
16:42So as the police continue the crackdown on persons of interest, of course,
16:48under the prevention detention orders, four persons were arrested on Friday.
16:54One, a 23-year-old man from the Pyramid Maraval area,
16:58a 39-year-old man from Village Council Road in Lavantel,
17:02a 30-year-old man from Lavantel Road in Port of Spain,
17:05and a 23-year-old man of St. Bob's Road in Lavantel.
17:09And all these individuals were conveyed to the Eastern Correctional Rehabilitation Centre.
17:13Centre is a remain in accordance with the detention orders, of course,
17:17suspected of various crimes and there would be questioned
17:21and, of course, charges laid in due course if need be.
17:25And then all from the northwest trend areas,
17:28so we have a concentration of gang activity in that area.
17:32So the police officers are working hard to ensure that there is crime suppression there
17:38and they detain those who they believe are responsible for ongoing gang activity.
17:44And kudos to them.
17:45Yeah, certainly.
17:46All right, speaking of which, let's take a look now at the state of emergency figures.
17:51So, number of operations,
17:571,813, priority offenders targeted at 801,
18:01searches conducted 11,357,
18:05traffic operations 1,088,
18:08total persons arrested 762,
18:12traffic offenses detected 6,066,
18:15firearms recovered 34 pistols,
18:1918 revolvers,
18:209 shotguns,
18:227 rifles and 2 air rifles,
18:24ammunition recovered 485 rungs of 9mm,
18:2866 rungs of 12 gauge,
18:3021 rungs of .380,
18:31194 rungs of 5.56,
18:3463 rungs of .38,
18:3727 rungs of .40,
18:397 rungs of .35,
18:40721 rungs of .45 and 30 rungs of .7.62 millimeters.
18:47Dangerous drugs seized thus far,
18:5072,022.44 kilograms of marijuana,
18:56238.97 grams of cocaine,
18:591,032 estercy pills
19:02and 15 grams of molly.
19:04So, seeing two new drugs being seized there by police in the last couple of days.
19:10Yeah, I see there's an ongoing debate within the country with respect to,
19:14like you see,
19:15traffic offenses detected 6,000 and something,
19:18and then you see firearms recovered.
19:20And people don't seem to realize that there's a correlation between crime and criminality
19:26and the use of the roadways.
19:27And I think in the fight against crime,
19:31you have to take control of your roadways
19:33because criminals use the roadways
19:35as their blood circulation system.
19:41And therefore,
19:42I witnessed the debate.
19:44I saw the Minister of Homeland Security
19:48make a statement on tickets being issued.
19:50but I do see a correlation
19:52in terms of the effort we made
19:55in all directions
19:56to address crime and criminality.
19:59All right, let's take a quick look now
20:00at our headlines.
20:01Let's take a quick look now.
20:03Let's take a quick look now.
20:04Let's take a quick look now.

22:52Welcome back to Beyond the Tape.
23:04I'm your host, Mark Gossan, joined today by Valence Rambarac of the Hunter's Search and Rescue.
23:09Jimana, are you going to take us through the month of August and missing persons?
23:12Yes, Mark.
23:13But before I do that, I want to share a story with our viewers and something that happened over the weekend with a missing person.
23:19At 1.23 a.m. on Sunday morning, while asleep, I received a phone call from a distressed mother stating that her 16-year-old daughter had gone missing.
23:31She was last seen when she indicated to the mother that she wanted to go to one of the public libraries on Sunday to do some work on a pending school-based assessment.
23:45She allowed her daughter to go. The daughter didn't return home.
23:50And she became scared, worried as the night progressed, and that's the time she called.
23:55I answered the phone, and I said to her, Mom, we will work on this case. Keep me updated throughout the night.
24:04And Mark, at 7 a.m. I received a call from a lady, a good samaritan, in the San Fernando district.
24:12And she said to me, Mr. Rambraat, I have a young lady here.
24:16Now, remember, I didn't put up a poster of this girl as yet.
24:21It was made, but I didn't put it up.
24:23And she said, I have a young lady here.
24:26She told me her name, and she's severely injured.
24:30And this girl, this lady, found this girl on the Embarcadé beach in San Fernando.
24:38And people familiar with San Fernando will know where the old dump area and the wharf is in San Fernando.
24:43It's known as a hot spot area.
24:47And there's a set of stairs to descend to the beach.
24:53It's a small beach.
24:55And the lady found her there, lying at the bottom of the staircase.
25:00And I said to her, OK.
25:02So everything was put in place.
25:03The police were notified.
25:05And she was transported to the San Fernando General Hospital.
25:09She was taken straight into surgery with a broken jaw and her eyes issues.
25:16One of her eyes remained in danger.
25:19And she was able to relate a story that I want to share with our viewers today.
25:27We know for a fact that a lot of communication goes on between young men and women on Instagram.
25:34And this was the case.
25:36But she was only to know this.
25:38She only knew this young man as Jay.
25:41That would have been his Instagram handle.
25:44And she indicated to the young man she would have liked to go to a beach.
25:48Obviously, he took her to the beach.
25:51But she was most likely assaulted in a brutal way and left.
25:57And had this lady not found this young lady in time, she could have lost her life.
26:03And I wanted to share this story.
26:05One, because we live in a highly predatory environment in Trinidad and Tobago.
26:12And young ladies out there, you could lose your lives easily.
26:15We've had instances, and I could recall some cases.
26:19Remember, we haven't found Marika Harriers yet.
26:22Last year, it was Maria Fall 19.
26:24This year, Candice Honoré found chopped up in her suitcase.
26:29And we have stories after stories, Malini Pasad in Barakpur, 14 years old, found brutalized in the Barakpur district.
26:43And I wanted to share this story.
26:45It's a very serious story.
26:46And I want to alert parents to the use of Instagram.
26:51It is the platform on which you young people are using.
26:55By law, I don't know whose laws, but you have to be 18 years old to be able to get onto the platform.
27:03But you just click a button and it says you're on.
27:06And please monitor your children's phone and make sure that they are, you know, that you monitor the phone and you know who they are talking to.
27:15The greatest information I have on this case is that a young man has an iPhone.
27:20He's renamed her IG account.
27:22And he is using the IG account.
27:25So the authorities are not calling names because the police is working hard on this case.
27:30But Mark, for the month of August, we've had 14 cases of missing persons thus far.
27:37And so far, six persons remain unaccounted for.
27:41These six persons are Carissia born.
27:46And I think last time we would have alerted the police to her whereabouts.
27:52And we haven't had a feedback on that as yet.
27:55But we still know the area where she is in.
27:57So Carissia, if you're seeing this program, you're seeing the poster, please go home.
28:02We know you're in the Maplands area.
28:04And we will continue to try to locate you so that you could get yourself in order and go back to your home where your parents are awaiting you.
28:14And they will seek your best interest at all times.
28:17And then we have, I dealt with this, Samuel Montano and Zahida Mohamed.
28:22They are still outstanding.
28:23We dealt with this at the beginning of the program.
28:26And there are ongoing searches for them.
28:29But I think at this stage with nothing popping up in the seas or on the coastlines, you know, like bodies washed ashore.
28:37If it was a case of their bodies washing ashore, it would have occurred during this week.
28:44So, you know, as the days go by, you know, it's getting, things are getting dim in terms of locating both Zahida and Samuel, right?
28:54Alright, Daryl Bramble has been missing since the 11th of July.
29:00And he is from the Tenapuna District, age 52.
29:05And we are asking persons, members of the public, if you have information on Daryl, please contact your nearest police station, the Tenapuna Police Station.
29:13And our team, Hunter, Switch and Rescue Team, at 799-1453.
29:20And then we get to Kimaya Alfred.
29:23Mark, this is Kimaya's seven-time gone missing.
29:28And she's 14 years old.
29:30I want to share some information with you.
29:32Only six times she went missing.
29:35Kimaya left Maloney Gardens.
29:37She went to Orupun by a friend.
29:39And they put her out from there.
29:42And then that same evening, she went to Barataria Police Station.
29:45I had called the Barataria Police Station to go for her.
29:48They reached five minutes late because she had moved down to another area.
29:54And the next night at 2 a.m., we got a call that Kimaya was in Silats, in one of those 2 a.m. parties down in Silats.
30:03Right?
30:04And her relatives were able to go down to Silats to get her.
30:08I had spoken to her mom about getting assistance put in her before the courts to get some sort of control over Kimaya Alfred.
30:17And, of course, I was brokenhearted when the mother called me and said, you know, Kimaya has gone missing.
30:23And we're still searching for her.
30:25But we got a report of her being in Sawa yesterday, I believe.
30:29So we're trying to locate her and get help for her.
30:32And then we have Kanisha Keto.
30:35Now, Kanisha Keto left home sometime ago in 2014.
30:39Now, she has three children.
30:41She went to Hague Street in Digo Martin to get her hair done.
30:44And she hasn't returned home.
30:46I think Hague Street is in Karanash.
30:48Karanash, sorry.
30:48Yes.
30:49Hague Street in Karanash to get her hair done.
30:52And she hasn't returned home.
30:54So I'm working closely with her relatives.
30:56We believe no harm has come to her based on the conversation.
31:00But please, if you know where Kanisha is, please call 799-1453.
31:06And let's see if you can get her to come back and be reunited with her three children.
31:12Her three children is eight, five, and two.
31:15And they're looking for their mommy, Kanisha.
31:18So please, if you're hearing this or you saw the poster, please show.
31:23And so that's it, Mark.
31:24Six still outstanding for...
31:26Just something very positive to me.
31:28I don't think public libraries open on a Sunday.
31:30I don't recall public libraries open on a Sunday.
31:34Well, that's what the mother told me.
31:35That's what the mother told me.
31:37And probably in the district where they live, probably they do it.
31:42Because that's civil service, I think, to come out on a Sunday to work.
31:46To work, yes.
31:46Unless it's a private library of some sort.
31:49Of some sort, yeah.
31:50Yeah.
31:51So I will check back on that.
31:54Because what you're saying makes so much sense.
31:57So, but you know that entire story is rather unfortunate.
32:01Yes, it is.
32:01And it's a message that has, you know, to come through and try to get to the front burner on national issues.
32:08Well, we're hopeful that those persons that you highlighted, that they will be found in the shortest possible time.
32:15And of course, that individual who has the phone of that young lady, I'm sure the law enforcement will be knocking at your door pretty soon.
32:23All right, we're going to take a short break and we'll be back.
32:26Stay with us.

35:42Welcome back to Be On The Tape.
35:44I'm your host, Mark Wissand, joined today by Captain Valence Rambrath of the Hunter's
35:47Search and Rescue Team.
35:48I'm going to go quickly to the voice of the people in Shaguanas.
35:52Let's go.
36:18Presently, we are in a state of emergency.
36:24Do you feel safer?
36:26Yes, but with a state of emergency, you have to be safe.
36:29You feel safer too.
36:30Because, you know, they're covering the situation.
36:34Right.
36:37Have you seen a reduction in crime since the state of emergency?
36:40Well, not really, you know.
36:43Things like it just running as it is.
36:47It's not known to say, well, it's a drastic change or any kind of thing like that.
36:51You think, um, a curfew is needed in a state of emergency?
36:55Yes.
36:56Yes, I mean, a curfew will do it much better because they'll, they won't have everybody just
37:02going here and there and then because a state of emergency is like normal, you know?
37:06It's normal, so crime will just be, keep on going on just as it is.
37:13What are your thoughts on the stand in your ground legislation?
37:17Ah, well, I really, I don't know if you're not.
37:20All right.
37:22Um, would you agree if there was a proposal for somebody held with a illegal firearm to
37:27be not granted bail for 180 days?
37:30Yes.
37:30I believe that, that, that, that should be on.
37:34Why?
37:35Because there's too much, uh, uh, guns in the place and all kind of thing and when you
37:40do that, you, you, you're curfew, innit?
37:43Mm-hmm.
37:43Yeah.
37:50All right.
37:50Voice of the people.
37:51Right.
37:52So, yes, so Shagwanas and of course Shagwanas has been in the, the pity a lot for with respect
37:58to, you know, criminal activity.
37:59Although, you know, I find lately, you know, we're not hearing as much about, you know,
38:07activity in the, in the central district.
38:10But the gentleman is saying that he feels safer in the SOE and that, um, he, he, he doesn't,
38:17um, he feels that it may not have had an impact on the crime.
38:22And also he's stating clearly, well, he doesn't know much about the stand-the-ground policy,
38:28but clearly he's saying that, you know, his, um, his thoughts really, uh, that, um, you know,
38:35the, the state of emergency is working and the area is safer.
38:42So, um, I have said before that I am not a quarrel as well with the stand-the-ground policy.
38:49I have not been following it.
38:50I, I want to, but I don't have the time, so I really don't want to comment on it as well.
38:55Right.
38:55And then, you know, you had asked him about, you know, the question of bail for those held with illegal firearms.
39:01And, you know, the real, the, the issue is, um, he agrees with it and a lot of people agree with it.
39:08I have a built-in bias for a particular firearm that should not, um, go in that direction.
39:13And those are the one or two little hunters who are held with illegal shotguns, um, for sole purposes of, um, hunting.
39:21And, and, and I've been following the, some of these cases in the magistrates' court.
39:25And the magistrates, uh, are dealing with it appropriately.
39:28They will give them a fine of maybe $10,000, right?
39:32But they are certainly not criminals.
39:34But in cases of the use of side arms and semi-automatic weapons and, and, um, you know, those, those military-type weapons,
39:44I support 100 and whatsoever.
39:47No bail for that.
39:49Uh, and, um, so the gentleman, um, you know, he's, he's, he's, he's saying,
39:55I believe the SOE is having a, uh, is being successful with respect to gang activity.
40:04I'm seeing the amount of, um, firearms recovered from the streets and any crime plan must have that in it.
40:11And every time we have an SOE, you're seeing, um, increase in recovery of, of, of firearms.
40:16so you know it works it is working yeah of course if you didn't make all that
40:21feast that's uncle Kai oh yes that's a gentleman so gamma and so on tick tock
40:29sorry right first and so on I thought when you started I was looking at the
40:33face and trying to say okay I knew this gentleman that is that is the gentleman
40:38yes yes it's quite articulated thanks for his views on the subject matter at
40:43hand and of course we had a very sad event this morning in the separator area
40:49here our understanding was that there was some kind of altercation between a man
40:55and a woman and unfortunately the man he I don't know if he does some kind of
41:03liquid onto the female and he quarter fine of course also the structure that they
41:12were in it's also inundated by the flames and it's a really sad situation captain
41:21yeah and I think this is the second such incident we had earlier India we had one
41:26in me are aware where a gentleman does his wife and you know he burnt himself to
41:32death and I think as adults even if you have relationship issues whatsoever issues
41:37you have this isn't certainly not the way to end it this speaks to anger and do not
41:44handle your relationship issues with that level of region anger because it you you resort into very
41:52drastic measures and that is not the way to do it and as an adult you have to have
41:57your anger and your rage under control at all times especially when you're dealing with family conflicts
42:03right and earlier today of course uh express journalist susan mohammed spoke with the father of that victim
42:10let's take a listen
42:13everything everything gone now van you so everything that we came for you fridge everything boner dead double
42:22decker for the kids everything gone everything every every living thing this girl struggle and
42:29thing look you've seen all the books on them boner be all the pile of books and thing the new school book
42:36palo seco secondary two of them going palo seco one now starting out she tanking me back there
42:43only tank everything well what really happened well me and my wife was not we was on our vocation but we
42:53get a phone call that the house on fire my boyfriend burned down the house so we came down it take me about
43:03two hours two hours two hours and a half we came down and when we come the house was completely gutted
43:10but the neighbors on them say he came up and he was beating her all in the road
43:17she had on her towel because she didn't too long come from work she was bathing when he come and he sat to beat
43:25she and she run out in the road with the towel towel fall off this and that and then he went in and sketchy house on fire
43:34and that is what the neighbor say I wasn't there to see that and she run by the neighbor and he hold until she 14 year old daughter with a knife by the neck
43:49like with this see and in that case the mother see that the mother run back to rescue she daughter
44:00she let go he let go he let go of the daughter and hold the mother he pulled the mother inside the mother
44:07and she had seen some burn all the shit back and neck and foot and thing but not no major burn because he
44:13of himself as i understand he get some burn but he couldn't take the heat so and then he hold she and he went
44:20through the bush with her and then now she managed to escape and run off ground street which his same sister
44:27gave her address and she went to the health center and they called the police run the outside today
44:38we nobody i know which party is but the only one but my advice for him is to come and give up yourself
44:45if you don't do your thing you know you're wrong you struggle you're living with the girl she has she
44:51house you are she house if you're visiting you're visiting you can't put down rules in she house because
44:57you never do nothing here you understand you by you she by she thing i woke out walk away as a man
45:06you understand but listen captain mark i'm so happy that she escaped she's alive her children are alive
45:18and i'm sure in short measure that man was going to be held he has to be held yeah i i don't think
45:25i could put it better than the father and the father is well spoken but anyway um i think um susan
45:31mommy did an excellent job with that interview the father was articulate he spoke as a fair father
45:38yes he did even though his daughter was at the receiving end of the things and you could have
45:43seen that the daughter would have struggled she a modest home made out of timber and she would have
45:50already bought the school books it meant that she was working hard the children were the focus of her
45:56life and this gentleman who wasn't living there came here came there to just you know to with his
46:03rage and anger to really you know deal at the devastating blow to this family and the father
46:09said it the father said it clearly well articulate yes if you have a issue and you can't deal with it
46:16walk away and leave the lady alone or leave the gentleman alone as the case maybe yes walk away resort to
46:22violence don't result i know it's very difficult for some people to tell some people that because
46:27they they they can't take that but but you know the thing is um you know the the lady has children
46:33involved and and and and you can be if it is so you know be holding a knife that has fruit and that type
46:40of thing that's not behavior that one should that should demonstrate all right we're going to take a

49:52so
50:17welcome back to be on the tape i'm your host mark wassan joined today by captain balance
50:21rambert of the hunters search and rescue team and you know over the last couple of months we've had
50:26issues uh about you know police related killings uh the pca speaking out the public even and uh you
50:34know it's always a tough job for police officers when you're confronted with persons armed with firearms
50:39or even any kind of object but this video we're about to show you shows you know the the police acting
50:46in a different manner of course uh while trying to apprehend a suspect so this is captured in tobago
50:53so the officer is trying to get the suspect together with his colleague into the van
51:00and what i what i can tell you what he's holding there in his hand is a taser gun
51:05and what happens next is a little bit comical he tases the suspect
51:09the suspect but yet the suspect look he strikes the suspect in the suspect yeah the taser gun
51:16is attached to the suspect in terms of the strength or whatever it is yeah the coil and he continues
51:23running so i'm i'm i'm gonna question whether or not the taser was at any kind of strength to in any
51:30way incapacitate the person from moving around or in any way escaping so that the police can obviously
51:37put them into the vehicle so i had a laugh as well because um the guy is larger the guy who is trying
51:44to apprehend his life so you know it would have been difficult but um you know here is an option
51:50the police have instead of using you know firearms to subdue persons who resist arrest and uh uh but in
51:57this case you could see quite clearly it didn't work yeah certainly but um it just goes to show that
52:03you know you know police officers have that also have their tasers and so on and if situations arise
52:08where the suspect is not armed or anything of the sort but they are being resistant in some way you can
52:14you can kind of contain them in this way right and i think mark you know one of the discussions in
52:20within the population with respect to the police um police and the use of firearms and and and and so
52:27forth is that you know the population you know has taken they do not support the police when when they
52:34have to um apprehend or detain a mentally ill person and they do not appreciate the fact that some of them
52:41are killed in these interactions and that's why i like the teaser right and i think other than that the
52:49population generally supports the police where there are police involved killings and because there are some
52:55difficult places in trinidad and we see we wear the glasses of crime each and every day we search we
53:02see we know what's going on there it's a tough tough environment yeah certainly you know but uh we hope for
53:09that that that aspect was was held i'm sure to be going to have been spending very slowly or jogging rather
53:17as they they ran off you know well in tobago you know i'm sure by now they know who it is
53:21and um would have been in custody but it did provide us with a bit of humor and i enjoy the laugh all right
53:30we just wanted to remind persons of course uh if you have um any questions about uh the fuls the
53:37sitting numbers you can obviously call um it's six two seven five two one seven extensions one two four one
53:47zero one two four one one and one two four one two uh that's for persons who obviously have questions
53:55about uh securing if you well um you know from time to time there's also a website they can go on the
54:00trinidad and tobago police service website uh there's a area of firearms section area where you can actually
54:06post questions to persons uh well who are interested in obtaining a firearm yeah and people call me all the
54:13time with respect to firearm issues after this morning someone messaged me maybe you find a lot of
54:18hunters seeking advice on how to get their firearms so just just yeah a lot of questions and answers um
54:26segments the website you could get a lot of information and feel free to call one of your
54:30colleagues you know who is knowledgeable with respect to firearms and how to go through the application
54:36process mark before we wrap up this evening's program uh because i had a data issue um this afternoon
54:44i was able to send a visual of our dear member glenn glenn robinson happy birthday brother um he wears a
54:53hairstyle similar to you mark so we brought him we bought him a hair comb for his birthday
54:59so glenn happy birthday brother and then mark within the our family hunters which and rescue
55:07family we had a death of uh one of two of our members um one's father and the other father-in-law
55:14that's both uh steven and anaria sinanan steven's dad ronald um sinanan passed on yesterday so hopefully you know
55:24after here we want to drop in the week a bit so i'll please accept our condolences on behalf of our
55:29team to both ria and um steven and then i did not send this this video but i wish to remind um viewers
55:39that our primary role really is that's his families with whose loved ones go missing and secondary rule is
55:45wildlife rescues and desi simon was able to visit her home in curep um during the week and and and
55:53perform the rescue on a juvenile came on a really expert um uh catch and release and congratulations
56:01desi and keep up the good work because we do train our members with respect to handling animals and stuff
56:07there's a owl mark we have to go and get in on school that's probably a problem and then again the
56:14whole issue of how we combine both so you know i told the principal sometimes this week we get it and
56:21remove the oil house safely all right sounds like a plan and speaking of course of tobago you know
56:28you you just saw a video from tobago there hopefully that suspect was caught but for you all in tobago
56:34there's actually a hotline the trinidad tobago police service um it's up on your screen there it's
56:40six three one help or six three one four three five seven any information you provide to the police
56:48is anonymous and confidential when you call that number so please if you have any information about
56:54any illicit activity anything that's going on illegal in your area and you want to tip the police off
57:00without of course uh saying who you are you can call that number and give them the relevant information
57:06so that you can check into the claims or the findings of what you are seeing happening in your
57:12area so hopefully uh you can utilize that line all right so i want to thank captain for his good time
57:21again another hour has gone and um have a good evening sir and of course to you of course remember we run
