03:24I just want to remind you that starting tomorrow and Friday, of course, the CPL begins.

04:02That's at 7 o'clock. Of course, our TV6 News will start at 5.45.
04:09That will be the time for the TV6 News.
04:12And, of course, sorry, yes, 5.45 and 6.45, right, 5.45 is the TV6 News.
04:23And, of course, the game starts at 7 o'clock.
04:26So, please note these changes and we'll be on earlier dates.
04:31As I said before, Tuesday to Fridays, just the Mondays for the next month at least.
04:37Well, it's smack in the middle of the weekend.
04:40No, legally speaking, Wednesday, of course, Corporal Ali had some personal commitments he had to attend to.
04:46So, he apologized for his absence.
04:49But, of course, in his absence, we have none other than Corporal Derek Chabody of the St. James Police Youth Club.
04:57Welcome, sir.
04:58No way in a turn yet, Lord.
05:00No way in a turn yet, Lord.
05:02But, thank you for having me and for your listenership and blessings to you and yours.
05:06Well, you know, one of the things that we can have a chat about, of course, apart from crime is, you know, the women that have been celebrating 70 years, or the 7th year, and which year of women, 75, sorry, in the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
05:24And we have some names here I wanted to share with you.
05:27If you didn't know, maybe it's long before your time.
05:30The first ladies that entered the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service in 1955, wow, look at those uniforms.
05:37They were Jessica Smith-Philip, Doreen Lompress, Noelle Pearl-Bruce, Ari Kosia Toussaint, Phyllis Wilson, Merle Eaton-Bertrand, Cynthia Sealy-Sendoy-Ord, Cynthia Cole-Israel, Myrtle Carter, Mavis Griffith,
06:00L.C. Cummings, Sheila Supriani, and, of course, there are, at present, 1,894 regular serving officers and 1,217 special reserve officers.
06:16Women, women that is.
06:17The police service most commend and most salute to women police.
06:22The police service is a better place today because of women police.
06:26Well, in my time, I don't know if you've heard about B.Patsy Singh.
06:30She was one of the baddest women police in Piccadilly.
06:33Okay.
06:33Right?
06:33I grew up with, well, of course, Assistant Commissioner Archie, Ms. Katyn Weeks, Mary Reed, Inspector Sergeant Reed,
06:43Ms. Patsy Joseph.
06:47Yeah.
06:48Assistant Commissioner Patsy Joseph.
06:49So, I have been around a lot of good women police who have contributed to my development.
06:55You know, they both brought their femininity and their masculinity because sometimes you
06:59won't believe it's women you're dealing with.
07:01So, you see, Patsy Singh was equivalent to the borrowers.
07:04But she wasn't easy.
07:06When you see that woman on Piccadilly, in fact, she's a woman police who charged one of the
07:10persons for the national anthem.
07:13Oh.
07:13I don't know if you've heard about that.
07:14Maybe it was long before my time.
07:16Yes, when it was early national stadium and the person failed to stand while the national
07:21anthem was being played.
07:23And that made papers.
07:25But she was a no-nonsense woman police.
07:27And we salute all women police.
07:28And even now, who are in the policy clubs, community policing, child protection unit, you
07:34know, they bring a balance in terms of the police service.
07:39And those names and those uniforms, it's definitely not in my time.
07:43But you see the progression and how this service has evolved.
07:48And women police, they play a very pivotal role.
07:51Every single unit, they stand shoulder to shoulder in any unit.
07:57And we salute them for that.
07:58Especially now, we need women police to be around.
08:01Especially what's going on with our young people, our young girls.
08:04They bring a touch in terms of working with our nation's youth.
08:08Well, I know you mentioned, Ms. Archie, and we want to say a special good evening, of course,
08:13to Ms. Joan Archie of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
08:16Obviously, we are always in touch with her.
08:19And by your estimation, Corporal Shabadi, what would you say these women brought to the
08:27improvement and the enhancement of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service over the last 75-odd years?
08:33Well, I think the women police, for one, have earned their respect.
08:37And they have earned their respect in every field.
08:40They have also allowed to show that women are not based on their beauty alone, but they are educated.
08:47They are well-rounded.
08:49They are well-informed.
08:50They are well-articulate.
08:51And they can fight a good fight in terms of crime.
08:54And we need to go feel that because you're bringing a woman around, women do justice in terms of the fighting crime.
09:01And you'll see many times when officers may have a second thought to arrest a female, you'll see a female officer stepping up to the plate and forming that arrest.
09:11And we need to congratulate them.
09:14Administrative level, most of the chief clerks, when you hear what I see in your soup in Charterville Division, there's very chief clerks, you know.
09:22And most of the women police who are chief clerks, they run a good show, very administrative.
09:28They make sure messages are sent out in time.
09:31You know, we salute the police.
09:32I mean, I say, if we had 7,000 male police officers, I couldn't fathom that.
09:40Male alone, I can't fathom that.
09:42So I really want to send appreciation to all the officers who have touched my life.
09:46I know when my parents died, it was women police who filled that gap for me.
09:52I can remember Sergeant Reed, Inspector Reed, a good woman.
09:56She has been part of my development.
09:59She took me to the Polish Courage Union.
10:01She said, you need Polish Courage Union?
10:02I said, no, ma'am.
10:03She said, get in the car, come now.
10:06She registered me.
10:07Assistant Commissioner Samson Brown.
10:10There's not a negative word can come out of.
10:12Beautiful.
10:12It's Margaret Samson Brown.
10:14Margaret Samson Brown.
10:14Yes, I remember Margaret, a very pleasant lady.
10:18I had a lot of interactions with her over the years covering crime and so on.
10:21A really, really nice lady.
10:23Yes, and ma'am Archie, she did justice in bridging the gap between the communications and the police.
10:31When ma'am came on board, you see what happened in terms of the police and the media.
10:37Really, really bridging that gap.
10:38We want to salute all those who also will be behind the scene to make this police service a better place.
10:46Our first commissioner of police, all the DCPs and the ACPs, it reminds you that it's not just the executive, not an elite group, but women can find them place in leadership as well.
10:58We have some women in the leadership positions of the Trinidad Tobago Police Service.
11:05We have the DCP, Suzette Martin, we have the DCP, Natasha George.
11:11At one time, we also had a female police commissioner, Ms. Hila Christopher.
11:16That's right, that's right.
11:17I mean, we must salute them because they have brought a lot to the table and women looking on can aspire and can see there's a place for them in the police service.
11:26And they have done justice in terms of providing that platform and allowing young girls to know that they can walk into the police academy and can become the commissioner one day.
11:38And that is honorable.
11:40We salute all those women in the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and all those women who are also part of the wider law enforcement for your good work.
11:50Yes.
11:51All right, so we wanted to, we talk about justice and, you know, this media release here, quite funny but unsettling, of course, August 13th.
12:01AC technician was caught on camera stealing from police, fined $10,000.
12:07So, apparently, according to reports on the 22nd of July, 2025, at the Arima Police Station, the informant placed a box containing two cannon, U.S. Rebel T7 cameras and accessories in the silver room on the second floor of the station.
12:21The room was locked and secured.
12:23However, on the morning of Thursday, August 7th, he discovered that one of the cameras, valued at $4,000, was missing.
12:30A report was made on WPC Augustus of the Arima CID, launched an investigation.
12:37Surveillance footage revealed an employee of a contracted air conditioning service provider removing the camera while performing maintenance work at the station.
12:47Apparently, he was later charged, Dexter Wren, sorry, 38th, of Richardson Street, Pepper Village, Feisabod.
12:55He came back to return to the station on August 9th for further maintenance and was arrested and was later charged on the 11th of August.
13:05So, he pleaded guilty, of course, and he was ordered to pay a fine of $10,000 within six months and to compensate the state $4,000 for the stolen camera within two months.
13:18A slap on the wrist, of course.
13:19Very lucky.
13:20Yes, very lenient.
13:21The court has been very kind to him.
13:23I don't know what your thinking is to go into a station.
13:28I mean, they say it tells you the mindset of people and police cannot become reckless.
13:35And thank God that we have cameras that can police and they can capture the essence of the station.
13:42But more than that, we ask officers to be alert.
13:45Don't take anything for granted.
13:47I mean, they say it might be a camera.
13:49Now, it might be a bomb next week, you know, so that we cannot take things for granted.
13:55And I think this officer should, the gentleman should also do some committee service.
13:59Yeah.
13:59You know, the court should, he's very, very fortunate to get $10,000 and expose him to whatever.
14:05But he needs to serve.
14:06Six months to pay the $10,000.
14:08Yes.
14:08A quite a decent time frame to get the money together.
14:12Yes, a public apology should be made, too, for going to the station and that is not nice, man.
14:17What is your thinking?
14:18A station is where you can find solace, you can find help.
14:22You know, you're looking and then you have all so much of the different things taken place in the station that it is...
14:27It's really disheartening.
14:28...uncomprehensible, yes, unfortunately.
14:32Well, another media release speaks about a Belmont man held the following an execution of a detention order
14:37by the Minister of Homeland Security, the Honorable Roger Alexander, that was issued on Monday last.
14:45Officers executed the detention order on Tuesday yesterday, state, and conveyed the detainee to a facility in the Northern Division in compliance with the order.
14:54Police also arrested a gentleman in the Pajay district in Tunapuna for being in possession of an AR-15 rifle loaded with a magazine and 34 rounds of ammunition.
15:08This arrest took place between 3 and 8 a.m.
15:11That's the firearm here, pretty high-powered firearm there.
15:16We speak about AR-15s and its deadly force, preferred choice by the criminals, Corporal Shabody.
15:24And this is why we are here every day, appealing to members of the public, if you see something, say something,
15:32because that AR could be, you know, and the individual behind the AR is much more deadly,
15:38because while you, we have an unfortunate taste for these kind of high-powered guns,
15:44the persons behind it is much more worse, and therefore the public must make a statement
15:49that these guns have no place in our community, and by extension, no place in our homes.
15:55And therefore, we need to commend those who continue to work in concert with the police,
15:59and just salute them, get these guns off on the streets, and make this country a safer place.
16:05Certainly.
16:06All right, we're going to take a look now at our Day 27 State of Emergency updated figures.
16:12So, number of operations, 1,945, target priority offenders, 848, searches conducted, 12,354,
16:25traffic operations, 1,173, total persons arrested, 822, traffic offenses detected, 6,729,
16:36firearms recovered, 35 pistols, 18 revolvers, 9 shotguns, 8 rifles, and 2 air rifles.
16:45Ammunition recovered, thus far, 492 rounds of 9mm, 66 rounds of 12 gauge, 21 rounds of 0.380,
16:54194 rounds of 5.56, 63 rounds of 0.38, 27 rounds of 0.40, 7 rounds of 0.357,
17:0421 rounds of 0.45, and 48 rounds of 7.62 millimeters.
17:11Dangerous drug seized, thus far, 73,087.24 grams of marijuana, 285.87 grams of cocaine,
17:221,032 STC pills, and 15 grams of molly, Corporal Shabody.
17:28China Bigger Police Service is working, and you're working steadfastly, beyond the call of duty.
17:36I mean, look at those figures.
17:38It's amazing.
17:39You know, that's talking about ammunition, you're talking about drugs, you're talking about high-powered rifle.
17:44So many different categories that we need to get out of the hands of our youth, and by extension, the community.
17:50It is not a good thing.
17:52But we need to applaud the police officers.
17:55We need to encourage them.
17:56We need to encourage those who are providing the intelligence,
18:00because all that is the sum total of ensuring that our country is a safer place.
18:05Supposedly you come here one day, Basant, and no ammunition recovered, no guns recovered, no drugs recovered.
18:14You have nothing to recover.
18:15You follow?
18:17That could be good, positive, or negative.
18:19Yeah.
18:19You follow?
18:20And this is where we want to take our country, where we can come one day and say,
18:23these countries are safer.
18:25We have now reached a manageable level where we are now managing crime.
18:29We can't eradicate crime, but we can certainly manage it.
18:32Bring it on to our figure where we say it is now manageable, and that's what we want.
18:37The fight taken to them, and we respond in due course.
18:40Yes, and when we also look at that column there of traffic offenses detected, 6,700.
18:47And we talk about, you know, on the nation's roadways, unsafe vehicles.
18:50Yes.
18:51And we've had this rise in road fatalities, of course.
18:54That is another major area where police are really zoning in, or zooming in on, rather,
19:00as they try to, you know, these errant motorists driving without insurance,
19:05driver's permits, unsafe vehicles, et cetera.
19:08Yes, the lawlessness starts from the home, and then it goes into the schools,
19:16then it goes into the community, then you will find it on the roadway.
19:20You follow?
19:21It is progressive, and therefore we have to address, it's a culture shift we have to address.
19:26We have to penalize those and let them know there are consequences for their behavior.
19:31But at the same time, we need to applaud those who are law-abiding,
19:34who take the road, and who follow the law, and who follow the traffic light,
19:38who stay on the particular, they need to be applauded,
19:41because we don't want to send a message that the lawless has taken over.
19:47There are more law-abiding people in the country than those who are lawless,
19:51and they need to be applauded as well.
19:53Well said.
19:54All right, let's take a quick look now at our headlines.
19:57Let's take a quick look now at our headlines.

23:23Welcome back to Beyond the TV.
23:53I'm your host, Mark Bassant, joined today by Corporal Derek Chabody, who is filling in, of course, for Corporal Ali, who had personal commitments.
24:01It's not legally speaking Wednesdays.
24:03And he says he is no attaining of the law.
24:06You've already established that.
24:08Yes, please.
24:09All right.
24:10I think we have our first caller on the line.
24:12Caller, good evening.
24:13Good evening.
24:14Good evening, Mr. Mark Bassant and Officer Chabody.
24:18I hope I pronounce your name good and I apologize.
24:21I'm going straight at you, officer of the PTPS.
24:25And I want to big up all you today on that arrest of that AC technician who stole a camera in front of everybody here in the police service and in the San Diego station.
24:40Why is the corrective action for the culprit is very, very good?
24:46The core problem hasn't been addressed.
24:50And the core problem is who was the manager or the officer in charge of that station when this occurred?
25:00Likewise, he had brought the gentleman to court.
25:05The investigation should have been simultaneous and said, look, this is the officer in charge of the station.
25:13He failed in his duty.
25:14That is what I'm saying.
25:16For you to walk in and walk out with a camera and walk out with a car, tell me the management of the daily operations of that.
25:24I don't know if it's a sergeant, if it's an inspector, if it's a superintendent.
25:28Something has to be.
25:29That is the core problem.
25:30The management of the facility.
25:32The second issue I wanted to draw the attention.
25:35I'm seeing something, and I think, Mark, you might have done an article on venture capital and a cyber attack in this.
25:43I, from a distance, want to know if that was an inside job because there was a lot of activity on the newspaper with respect to the venture capital and a lot of movement of money which was linked to MPS, etc.
26:00etc., and a certain high officials.
26:02So I don't know if that was a genuine cyber attack, a planned cyber attack, etc.
26:10Those are the two or three.
26:11Those are the two or three.
26:11And the last one, too many road accidents.
26:15And the failure to address a lot of people using the road calls that, for example, J-walk-in must be zero tolerance.
26:28But before you can make that zero tolerance, you have to fix the pavement.
26:32I have seen today, people can't walk on the pavement, they have to walk on the road.
26:38And if that is happening in the night, you know what's going to happen.
26:41I hope you all understood my question.
26:43Have a nice evening.
26:44I'll let you take one and three.
26:48Well, one was the question of...
26:51The management of the police station and they should be held accountable, the senior officers at that station.
26:56Well, I think if you understand the operations of a station, you will find that even those who come in to attend to air conditioning and camera, it is a consistent company.
27:07They know the company, they know the management, they know the workers you follow.
27:12I have seen it play all the time that you don't have different companies coming, but it is a consistent contractor that probably had the benefit of.
27:21And that particular individual, it was a poor, what do you call, poor actor.
27:27I mean, they say, it's probably that person felt at that time that he could have used the opportunity because of his personal, you know, your appetite?
27:38Yes.
27:39When you touch them, then over and over you have been touching and this is my catch.
27:44And probably the gentleman had given an opportunity to get a proper job.
27:47I do that all the time too.
27:49And I don't want to point fingers in saying that it's poor management of a station.
27:53But most of the persons who attend to lighten your condition in the station is a contractor that they know, it's workers that they know.
28:02There's no strange face showing up, entries made in the diary.
28:06You know, the officer is there supervising and that person probably, unfortunately, you use, instead of being trusted, you created mistrust and you will have to build that.
28:17And I'm sure that the manager is looking forward to having a serious shot with his workers in terms of this unfortunate embarrassment.
28:25You know, you could lose contract as a result of that.
28:28That's why it's so important in terms of how you pick.
28:31And I'm sure the sergeant and the inspector is also going back to the drawing board.
28:35They're not taking it.
28:35Of course, yeah.
28:36You know.
28:38Road fatalities.
28:39Too many on the roads, he said.
28:40Well, I first, I want to commend the traffic wardens.
28:46Bassan, they are doing an excellent job.
28:48The traffic wardens in my island 500 Edinburgh and coming out, traffic is terrible.
28:54And on the morning, I am pleased to see what the traffic warden is doing so that they'll free up police officers to work on these errand drivers and who are taking the black carpet.
29:03And again, it's a culture.
29:05It is an attitude that we have to change.
29:08It's an arrogance, people driving behind a vehicle lawless, not mindful of somebody else utilizing the space for them.
29:17And they need to be made an example.
29:19You need to have plainclothes police.
29:20You need to have, it has to be a tactful approach in terms of dealing with errand drivers.
29:25Because sometimes you have these speed things set up and my turn which is halfway, lights on people, blinking lights, informing them that there is your follow.
29:34There's a roadblock.
29:35And we have to come up with a new approach in terms of reminding people that you're on the road and you're sharing the road with persons.
29:45And it's absolutely imperative that we make some example.
29:47Put them on the papers.
29:49Put them on the news.
29:50Let us see that they will meet an example and there are consequences for that kind of reckless driving on the road.
29:56Yeah.
29:56Yeah.
29:57And Kola, you spoke about, you rather meant to mean venture credit union.
30:01And I was able to call the name because there have been a couple of stories online and I actually did a story for television tonight.
30:09And I can say that as far as I know, there's no correlation because this breach was on the dark web and it was brought to light by Fallon Feeds, a cybersecurity company that was monitoring this.
30:21And they put it up on their X account yesterday talking about the breach.
30:26And, of course, venture credit union sent out a release today indicating that the threat which happened around July 18th was neutralized.
30:34And they have taken certain security measures and they have verified that no financial information of any of their members when anyway compromised.
30:44However, they did say there were there was some problems or issues with identifications of persons who are members being posted online, their DPs, their ID cards, etc.
30:57Which, of course, we also saw and it was bled out by the cybersecurity company who would have made the discovery on the dark web.
31:06So, these are hackers that are operating, of course, worldwide and probably outside of Trinidad and Tobago because these hackers apparently were also responsible for a recent breach, I believe, in China.
31:20If a member says me right.
31:21And so, I can't see it being far-fetched as it's connected to a story that I would have done about a public official two years ago to answer the question.
31:31International business.
31:33All right.
31:33So, we want to just quickly show you a video.
31:36It's not in Trinidad and Tobago we want to show you, but we just want to alert you that crime is everywhere.
31:42Let's take a look.
31:47All right, man.
31:48Shoot up in the air, boy.
31:51So, three men armed with firearms.
31:55Oh, wow.
31:56And he draws his firearm and he lets them have it.
32:02And it happens almost in, if we could go back, in slow motion.
32:07Yes.
32:07Because here he is, the guy's, and the guy just takes out the firearm.
32:13I think the second assailant was not paying attention, although he was pointing the firearm.
32:17And at least two of them were shot, it looks like a shotgun to me, lying on the floor, one of the dead bandits there, and one lying on the roadway.
32:27And the third got away.
32:29Now, we have seen many things like this happen in Trinidad from time to time.
32:33Yes.
32:33When a person's going to a bar where the bar owner has a license, or even an off-duty police officer might be there.
32:42There was an incident sometime last year in a bar in Arima.
32:46Yes, that's right.
32:46Where an off-duty, some men came to rob the bar and they were shot.
32:50Yes.
32:51One was killed, I believe, and two others injured.
32:53And that's right, yes.
32:54So, it is not, we are not immune to this here in Trinidad and Tobago.
32:58No, not at all.
32:59And what was good is that the gentleman was calm, cool, and collective.
33:03You know, I don't know the state of mind.
33:05And what, you make note that he didn't jump over the counter.
33:08Yeah.
33:08Because if they had jumped over the counter, they would have recognized, you know, and that would have at least put the gentleman more at rest.
33:14Yes, and when you look at some of the criminal elements, I think the commissioner mentioned, these fellows come in blazing.
33:20Yeah.
33:21They come in to hold you up and ask you, they come in to make sure that you feel it.
33:25And I think that we need to commend the government for allowing a national discussion on standard ground.
33:32We have lawyers, we have attorneys, we have retired judges, police officers, you know, law-abiding people,
33:38even those who have been affected, making their contribution in terms of this type of law, the effect.
33:44And by extension, the pro and con.
33:46And we need to bring good law to this country.
33:50The law, a gentleman told me once, I was doing a lecture, he said,
33:53Officer, for once in my life, I want to feel like the law is a part of the law-abiding.
34:00It's a feeling, you know, the people feel.
34:03The law-abiding feel that sometimes, you know, the law is not in favor of them,
34:07and you have to educate them and allow them a different type of thinking.
34:12But it is time that the lawless understand this country is not for sale.
34:16Enough is enough.
34:18All right, enough is enough.
34:19All right, we're going to take a short break, and we'll be back with more.
34:22Stay with us.

35:20My Story Is An Alta Story
35:23I really know my kids' kids was terrible.
35:25But in a year time, I do at that level one, I complete it.
35:29What? That was so, that was like a joke.
35:31In Alta for a long while, I'm not lying. In Alta, I jump out.
35:35I call me challenging. It was hard, but I fight still.
35:37I start to feel nice. I start to feel sweet about myself.
35:41Before Alta, I was so nervous, never understand a lot of things.

36:06I am enjoying every moment in Alta.
36:09Today now, I can read, I can write, I can spell. Get into Alta so you can write your story.

37:07Welcome back to Beyond the Tape. I'm your host Mark Misan, joined today by Corporal Derek Chabody of the St. James Police Youth Club.
37:13And we quickly want to go to our segment and your favorite segment, I understand as well.
37:19Voice of the People and we're still in Chaguanas. Let's go.
37:22Music
37:36.
37:40.
37:45.
37:46.
37:51so we present in a state emergency you feel safer not really you know because
37:58the end of the day the criminals still doing what they have to do they're still
38:03moving around so this state emergency thing and really say nothing they need
38:10to step up with the Lord somehow they have to try to enforce things make the
38:17criminals and I'm nobody police serious so so in your in your words and you're not
38:22seeing a reduction in crime since yes we know because every day people die and
38:27every day you see people dying who it was people doing murder if people robin
38:34people you know and then people was more or less okay not really too serious
38:40about the police because they're not taking police yeah you are you think we
38:45need a curfew for the state of emergency well to be honest with you I really
38:51can't say that is the police and authority have to know what they want to do
38:56because I'm going to have more experience in that feeling right any thoughts on the
39:01stand your gong legislation that has been proposed maybe it might work with some
39:06people and it may work with some people but it might work for everybody true
39:12because you know everybody might be able to use a fire and that instantly I'm
39:16going to come one time everybody can think fast on how to do things you support the
39:24proposed 180 days no bail for persons caught with illegal firearms in this country yeah
39:29yeah you want to say why because I think if it's kind of bill for them maybe the other people think
39:37about what they're doing have you ever been a victim of a scam what what recommendations
39:45you have for persons that fall victims to a scammer there's be a little more careful
39:50because they're advising people not to go on in certain places to do transaction you do your transaction
39:59in a in a place where people wouldn't be you know they isolated in a way they're not to open
40:05yeah yeah thank you next one
40:12voice of the people should go on us and there's an honest voice it's a contribution that we need to
40:21respect that people want to know their location and the environment safe and that is what the police
40:30business is all about our expertise is ensuring that people say I'm safe yeah you know crime is
40:37done and we need to appeal to to the businessmen and the corporate TMT to understand that in order to
40:45guarantee some level of safety it has to be a collective effort a multi-prong approach so the next time you
40:51interview this gentleman he said the last time interview me I wasn't feeling safe but I'm feeling safe now right
40:57so that people understand what safety is all about not looking away about yeah you know and you only
41:02leave he had this he agreed on the hundred and eighty days so he say put them away yeah do are these people
41:11walking all over and and parading and you know make sure and incarcerate them too many firearms too many
41:17firearms on the streets and we have to do something to stem that tide even if it means you know amending the
41:24legislation to do such that's all business that's right all right we're gonna take a oh no we have a
41:29caller on the line caller good evening good evening sir go ahead I think it is against the law to use the
41:45the proceeds of crime all right yes so if someone is in prison and they call their
41:53cohort outside to put on a walk to the speed but to pay their attorney is there any obligation there that
42:03people have to identify where these forms came from would that would that actually maybe
42:08that's a very interesting question I know that it was raised in the public for about a week or two
42:20ago by the Homeland Security Minister in some measure of course quite cryptic it's a very gray area I would
42:29see to some extent I think that once you're dealing with an accomplice eating a better persons who are part
42:38and parcel preview to a criminal activity and there's exchange of money that will be formed part of the
42:48evidence it is it is understood that is some total of making a case that that would also form part of the
42:55evidence you see you have to understand that banking and all the different set of semantics is now in
43:02play in terms of transferring money and that kind of stuff and it's unfortunate somebody could be
43:07incarcerated yes I'm calling shots on people yes and we have to congratulate the government and by
43:14extension the forces that be that have no solution you know what's going on and we will make all an
43:20example we'll cut off all communication and that's the first thing that they did and need to be
43:25commended for that yes and I as I say if you see somebody behind bars and then I don't know the you
43:32know the copious amount of money being ordered by somebody outside to pay a lawyer and the person is
43:39incarcerated whether or not they have a business you have to look at that business or businesses or contracts
43:44that they have in some measure under the proceeds of crime act and see whether or not that money is
43:50actually clean money that that's right what the money was used for yep that's right and therefore it is
43:55imperative that when you're looking and you're tracing you're following your money let me use the term
43:59that's like following the money is going yes you will be able to solicit this money was used for nothing that is
44:05that is clean and lawful but for unlawful means all right so call I hope that we answered your question

47:04welcome back to beyond the tape i'm your host mark wasan joined today by derek corporal derek
47:20shabani of the trinidad at the big police service and my extension of course the saint james police
47:24youth club and i know you brought a very serious um matter to my attention at the breaking of course i
47:30would like you to share that with the public we would like to appeal to members of the public when people come to you
47:41claiming to be representative of the police you club or the service to unsoliciting funds we ask you do not be readily
47:52giving do further inquire inquiries into the individual call ask them what a leader name a contact number check the ticket the ticket
48:02may be fictitious false when you look there is no proper stamping i'm say hold on let me give because i have had cases where
48:10people call me yeah and say officer so you're having a barbecue i said which barbecue also is not saint james is um
48:18my wallet i said i don't think western division is having any barbecue he said well i give the gentleman 240
48:25dollars i say um did you get any tickets no the gentleman promised he will come back
48:29so i'm saying that there are bad actors out there knowing what police you club does do on its role and its function
48:37yeah there are people going out soliciting funds and we ask some people to be careful and to be mindful
48:43do you do diligence make some calls call me first call western station call the inspector inquire
48:50so that you'll find out that this person is all about fraud and it's all about collecting money
48:56walking around with documents that the club going away that they need our books for you club cheering
49:02you know there's a lot of people out there auto outsmart you yeah and calling for your honest dollar
49:09so we are paying to members of the public to make a call call the station and double check that this person is
49:15legit yeah because there are a lot of fraudulent um tickets that can be printed with false stamps and i i i i
49:24would admit to you a couple years ago a woman approached me right outside this building with a barbecue ticket for
49:29fifty dollars and on the date i paid the fifty dollars and on the date it was stamped and everything
49:34oh i went to the location on the date and time i can't recall where and there was no barbecue
49:40lo and behold five months later i saw that said individual on the promenade here and i approached her
49:46and i said i want my fifty dollars back or else i'm going to report this matter etc etc if i ever see you again
49:53because there are people that are doing that yes and they're using false logos you can go online and
49:59make any ticket you know yes that's right very easy now easy and we will set with with um artificial
50:05intelligence exactly yeah and you see it's going to take a picture of them too once you pop your phone
50:12and you'll find them being very yes is that you're selling either so that you cover your tracks because i know
50:18that by the time our club all legitimate clubs will approach and say but i just give a contribution of
50:24400 to your club i said to whom so you know you have to be very careful and mindful that these bad actors
50:31are out there too on the mind the kind of work that we're doing and therefore it's absolutely imperative
50:37that you see the letterhead you see a stamp you do you call him you all of a sudden extend say yes i am familiar
50:44you know and you make sure and connect the dots because it is not easy and these people are all over
50:50not just in west they're moving about inside it's like a business fraudster business in terms of
50:56acquire money and apparently they're doing very well because trinidadans generally will give when they
51:02hear barbecue they have fundraiser at china dwell yeah they will give and therefore they know um exactly how to
51:09present the case to you you have to triple and double check even the numbers that might be on the ticket
51:14call if if it's supposedly yes good numbers let's call and find out and verify from one or two people
51:20that i don't know but we need to even go into the police station and ask that's right i asked if if you
51:26all know about this barbecue especially in a particular area and so on it has to be stamped and so
51:30that's right take a picture you raise your phone and you take a picture that person because the person
51:35is asking you for funds you will have no problem um providing you with a with with a physical presence
51:40of who they are right very unfortunate we just want to remind you of the numbers to call 623-1711
51:47extensions 1996 and 1997 all right just a reminder of course uh the central division tongue meeting it's on
51:59tomorrow thursday at the three roads community center mission road freeport from 6 30 pm so residents in
52:08that central area if you have concerns if you have suggestions for the ttps officers will be coming
52:16out to listen to those concerns to listen to those suggestions or any other kind of uh concerns you want to
52:22raised with with them obviously you have that um you have that that platform oh yes it's one of our
52:31signature initiatives and we are proud of it that public can come out they can meet their senior soup
52:38inspecting tragedy division they can meet crime stoppers other stakeholders and others police you know is meeting
52:44other stakeholders other important people who are important in terms of addressing youth and crime so we want to
52:51appeal to all those in central come out meet it's not a talk shop it's about solutions oriented it's all
52:57about saying what can we do to make our community a safer community yes certainly and we're talking about
53:03safer community of course and i know you have some lovely photos to share with us of some activities um go
53:10right ahead well we do good work and and that is the mountain branch month i i have to applaud
53:14mountain one of the most popular places in among youth i love to go monkey branch was back right in
53:22and i want to commend the sergeant and the officers i want to commend all the camp directors uh miss christine
53:29malik miss sherry you know um there are so many wonderful people that have come and bought to make our
53:34sports camp a meaningful one and we had a puppet train them out to make using their hands for creative
53:41stuff um it's a camp it runs until the 23rd it's almost for five weeks yeah as a 85 kids a lot of kids
53:51that come along all ages as you see from 5 to 21 and we want to thank all those who have made themselves
53:57available to work with the young people in a time when their home in fact it's now 10 weeks
54:04because they're going out on the 8th yeah i want to thank harvard this is our national cricketer
54:09a pc sammy from western division of broadwar national coach to look at cricket and the discipline of cricket
54:15you know um so they have made the world a better place in terms of ensuring sports is an excellent
54:22vehicle to showcase young people the talent because everybody is talented and they have the potential
54:28so to all those who are the administrators and have come throughout trannebago we have to salute them
54:34and commend them for keeping our young people occupied constructively and this has been endorsed by the
54:40commission of police the executive and assistant commissioner subin has promoted the importance of camp any kind of camp
54:48yeah music camp cultural camp and we thank people who are coming on board and are working in concert with the
54:55policy club to make the camp the children are there from 7 30 mr bassa wow so i had a drink coffee
55:02but i have good people around me i thank god for my wife i thank god for the parent body the management board
55:10the council who have really um came on board all these small shops in the area yeah who have done us
55:16who have done justice we want to thank them very much and of course um harvard's following us usage of the
55:22committee um forward forever foundation they do a lot of work with artificial intelligence and in an
55:28absolutely excellent um group exchange showing what ia is all about and the importance of usage of of technology
55:36so we appeal to them to get your children involved in camp the police club is an excellent platform where your child
55:44can occupy their time constructively the u club is not for bad train yeah it's what your potential
55:50talent and they're gifted well i mean sydney a lot of uh fun-filled activities there you have
55:58puppet shoes you have sports you have horseback riding and you're as you rightly pointed out that mountain
56:04branch is very popular but we have a caller on the line caller good evening we will live and be on the tape keep it

56:37they will look into it they will look into it and you're getting no answer last time we had a uh
56:43invasion the police say they will look into it up to now no no not never beside that they came the um some police
