00:00Big cook, little cook, welcome to our cafe.
00:11Big cook, little cook, want you to come and play.
00:18Meeting all the friends we cook for, sharing stories, trips and fun.
00:25Big cook, little cook, we'll cook for everyone.
00:30Oh, hello, welcome to our cafe, the best cafe in the world.
00:41I'm staying out of Ben's way at the moment, he's in a terrible flap and I've got no idea why.
00:47His face looks like this.
00:51You wait and see.
00:56Look, he's doing it again.
00:58Oh, we've got a problem.
01:01Calm down, Ben.
01:02Whatever's the matter?
01:04Oh, hello everyone.
01:06It's Aunt Millie's birthday and we haven't got her a present.
01:10Oh, it's Aunt Millie's birthday and we haven't got her a present.
01:14Oh dear.
01:15Well, maybe we could buy her one.
01:18Ben, we haven't got time.
01:19We're in the cafe all day.
01:22Well, perhaps we could cook her something.
01:23You know what Aunt Millie's like about food?
01:26I don't like this.
01:28I don't like that.
01:29Well, what are we going to do?
01:30I don't know.
01:31I really don't know.
01:34We've got a customer.
01:36A customer?
01:37Well, customers come first, Ben.
01:39But we still need to get something for Aunt Millie's birthday.
01:42We'll have to think of that later, Small.
01:44Go and see who the customer is.
01:45I'm on my way.
01:47Who is it today, Small?
01:54I'll give you some clues.
01:56See if you can guess too.
01:58It's someone who likes growing silver bells and cockle shells and pretty maids all in a row.
02:04Is it a girl or is it a boy?
02:06It's a girl.
02:07A girl who likes spending lots of time in her garden.
02:09Oh, I think I know who it is.
02:12Is it Mary Mary?
02:13Yes, it is, Ben.
02:14It's Mary Mary Quite Contrary from the flower garden.
02:22Mary Mary Quite Contrary
02:25How does your garden grow?
02:29With silver bells and cockle shells
02:33And pretty maids all in a row.
02:37Ho-ho!
02:38I bet she's hungry after all that watering and weeding.
02:41Now, what shall we cook for her?
02:43What would somebody who grows flowers like to eat?
02:46I think it's time to look at my book.
02:56We need a story to help us cook.
02:59Let's take a look in Little Cook's book.
03:02Little Cook's Adventures in the Big World.
03:05Let me see.
03:06This is a story about Mary Mary, who more than anything in the world loved her flower garden.
03:15Lots of people came to Mary's stall to buy her beautiful flowers.
03:19Sometimes a bunch of tulips or daffodils or sometimes just one rose.
03:24It was lucky Mary Mary had a big garden, just the place to grow lots and lots of different flowers.
03:30But to grow flowers, you need seeds.
03:33Today, she was going to plant some more.
03:37She went to her shed and picked up a seed packet.
03:40She planted the seeds in little rows all over the garden and watered them with her watering can.
03:45Then there was nothing to do but wait for the seeds to grow.
03:50So she waited and waited and waited until one morning she came out and as far as the eye could see,
03:59there were hundreds and hundreds of big green leafy things and not a single flower in sight.
04:06Mary Mary was so disappointed, she just sat down and cried.
04:12I knew I had to help.
04:15Poor thing.
04:16She thought she was a really bad gardener.
04:19But Little Cook Small knew better.
04:21I could tell straight away what the problem was.
04:24I started to pull up the leafy things and underneath the earth, I found carrots.
04:30Mary Mary realised she must have planted the wrong seeds.
04:33They weren't flower seeds, they were carrot seeds.
04:38And very good carrots they were too.
04:41We poured them up together until we had stacks and stacks of juicy orange carrots.
04:46Then we planted the flower seeds in the empty garden.
04:49Mary Mary was going to have to wait until the flowers grew.
04:53But in the meantime, she put a big display of lovely orange carrots on her stool.
04:58Then she made carrot soup, carrot cake and carrot juice for all her customers.
05:02Little Cook to the rescue once again.
05:08That was a great adventure.
05:10Well, roast my potatoes.
05:12What a lovely story, Small.
05:15Whey!
05:17Thanks, Ben.
05:18So what are we going to make for Mary Mary Quite Contrary?
05:22Well, why don't we make her some silver bells and cockle shells?
05:25Oh, no, Small.
05:27I don't think they'd be very tasty.
05:29This needs some careful thought.
05:34I know, Big Cook's Big Cookery book.
05:44Of course, the Big Cookery book.
05:46There's recipes for everything in there.
05:48And where do we look for things to cook?
05:51In the book.
05:52In the book.
05:52In Big Cook's book.
05:56Oh, yes.
05:57The very thing.
05:58Fancy flowers.
06:00Mary Mary will love these.
06:02They'll remind her of her garden.
06:04Come on, Small.
06:04You read out the ingredients and I'll see if we've got them.
06:07OK, let's see.
06:08We're going to need butter.
06:09OK.
06:10Over to the fridge.
06:11Here we go.
06:13There we are.
06:13Butter.
06:14An egg.
06:15One egg.
06:17Got the eggs, Small.
06:18Castor sugar.
06:19Oh, over in the cupboard.
06:21Here we are.
06:22Castor sugar.
06:23Yep.
06:24Plain flour.
06:25Oh, plain flour.
06:27There we go.
06:28And boiled sweets.
06:30Boiled sweets.
06:31Boiled sweets.
06:33Er, er, yes.
06:36Oh, here we are.
06:38Everything we need, apart from the boiled sweets.
06:42I was a little bit hungry earlier, Small, and I ate them.
06:46They are my favourite.
06:48You've eaten all the boiled sweets.
06:51Well, don't worry, Ben.
06:52It's another job for Little Cook Small and his magic spoon-mobile.
06:57Great idea, Small.
06:59And I'll get everything ready.
07:01Hey, why don't you come along, too?
07:03Woo-hoo!
07:03Go, Small, go, Small, whizz away.
07:11I wonder what he'll see today.
07:22I'm in the right place here.
07:25This is where sweets are made.
07:27Sweets are made from sugar.
07:28All the ingredients are mixed together and heated up in a big pan.
07:41It's really hot.
07:45Look at all the steam.
07:46Yeah, this one's turned red.
08:02He's going to make orange and red sweets.
08:11Ah, I love sweets, but I make sure I brush my teeth after eating them.
08:15It's all gooey.
08:25Yummy!
08:30That machine is rolling out the sweets.
08:38There's hundreds of sweets, but they're all joined together.
08:41When they've cooled down, they're all broken up.
08:52Sweets come in lots of pretty colours,
08:55just like the flowers in Mary Mary's garden.
09:01Mmm, that was fun!
09:03See you later!
09:04There, I think I've earned a nice tasty boiled sweet now.
09:17Did you bring any back, Small?
09:19Whey!
09:20I certainly did, Ben.
09:23It was amazing watching the sweet maker.
09:25First, he mixed lots of hot, sticky stuff on a table.
09:30And as it cooled, he turned it into lots of colourful boiled sweets.
09:34And here they are!
09:36Whoa, thanks, Small.
09:40All measured out and ready to cook.
09:42We're all ready, so take a look.
09:44And we will show you how to cook.
09:46The jelly boats and pirates go, Princess Pee Pies.
09:54Carrot cakes and fruit smiles.
09:56And envelopes surprise.
09:58We love our cafe and we love to cook.
10:01We have a fantastic recipe book.
10:07He is big cook and he is small.
10:11Friends in our cafe, we cook for them all.
10:15When your tummy gets all rumbly, you're ready for a treat.
10:21You can make something delicious to eat.
10:30Have you cleaned the surfaces?
10:32Yes.
10:33Have you washed your hands?
10:34Yes!
10:36All clean and ready to cook.
10:39Do you remember the ingredients to fancy flowers?
10:42You do.
10:42There was butter, 200 grams.
10:46An egg, one.
10:48Caster sugar, 200 grams.
10:50Plain flour, 400 grams.
10:53And boiled sweets, six.
10:55Whoopee!
10:56Let's get started!
10:58First of all, I'm going to turn on the oven to 180 degrees Celsius, gas mark four.
11:03And make sure you get your grown-up helper to do that bit for you, because the oven is hot, hot, hot.
11:10And be careful not to fall over on one of those sweets, small.
11:13As if I do something as daft as...
11:16Oh!
11:16Just making sure.
11:21Hmm.
11:22Right.
11:23I'm going to get these sweets sorted out once and for all.
11:26And I'm going to put the sugar...
11:29...and the butter...
11:33...a little bit more...
11:34...into a mixing bowl, and I'm going to cream them both together.
11:39Creaming is a special kind of mixing.
11:43Here we go.
11:47All the red ones first.
11:50One, two, three.
11:54There we are.
11:56All nice, pale, creamy and fluffy.
11:59So now, it's time to add your egg.
12:05In it goes.
12:07And I'm going to give it a good stir.
12:10Round and round.
12:11And get it all mixed in.
12:13Now it's time to sort the yellow sweets.
12:16One, two, three, four.
12:23Now we need this to be a little bit thicker.
12:25And what makes things thicker?
12:28That's right.
12:29Flour does.
12:30Hey, hey.
12:30So I'm going to add in our flour a little bit at a time.
12:35There we are.
12:36And as I'm doing this, I'm going to give it a bit of a stir with the spoon.
12:41In it goes.
12:42Keep stirring.
12:44Mix it all in together.
12:46And last of all, the orange.
12:48I wonder how many there are.
12:50One, two, three.
12:54Here we are.
12:58Oh, and this is the fun part.
13:00Now I'm going to squidge it up with my nice clean hands.
13:04Here we go.
13:05Oh, yes.
13:07Give it a good old scrunch up.
13:11This will teach you sweets.
13:13Keep you in order.
13:14There are five red, four yellow and three orange.
13:20There we are.
13:22Look at that.
13:23Perfect.
13:24So now I need to roll it out to make the biscuits.
13:28I've already floured the board, so I just need to start rolling it.
13:33There we are.
13:34Turn it round.
13:37Very good.
13:38There we are.
13:40There'll be no more slipping over on sweets.
13:42Hee-hee.
13:44Oh, these biscuits are going to be very tasty.
13:47And they're going to look just like the flowers in Mary Mary's garden.
13:51So I'm going to use this flower-shaped pastry cutter to cut out the biscuits.
13:56So I'm going to pop it down on there, press down, and then, oh, up it comes.
14:08I'm going to scoop it up.
14:11There we are, nice and careful, and pop it onto a grease baking tray.
14:16There.
14:17And now I need to use this round pastry cutter to take a little hole out of the middle.
14:22On it goes.
14:28Twist it, and out it comes.
14:30There's one, and now for another.
14:32Mary Mary, you're such a beautiful garden.
14:35I wish we had silver bells and cockle shells in our garden.
14:39It would make the vegetable patch look so pretty.
14:41And just finish off the last one.
14:45There we are.
14:47These holes are going to be for our boiled sweets, which we're going to pop in later.
14:50We need to let them cook a little first.
14:52So, in the oven they go for ten minutes until they're nice and golden.
14:57I'll set the timer.
14:59For ten minutes.
15:02There.
15:11The biscuits are ready.
15:13There we are.
15:14We just need to leave them to cool down for a couple of minutes.
15:17So, how are those sweets coming along, Small?
15:20Ready when you are, Ben.
15:22All present and correct.
15:24Which colour would you like first?
15:26Oh, that doesn't matter, Small.
15:27We're going to have multi-coloured flowers.
15:29Mary Mary will love that.
15:30Thanks very much.
15:34You've messed up all my sweets, Ben.
15:37Oh, sorry, Small.
15:39These are cool now.
15:41So, I'm going to pop in the boiled sweets.
15:44One there.
15:45One there.
15:47Another one in there.
15:49One there.
15:51And that one.
15:53And then that one.
15:55Brilliant.
15:55Multi-coloured flower biscuits.
15:58Oh, Mary Mary's going to love these.
16:00And don't worry if your boiled sweet doesn't fill up the hole you've cut out.
16:04They'll spread out once they're in the oven.
16:06Which is where they're going right now.
16:08So, oven gloves on.
16:10And we pop them back in the oven for another three minutes.
16:13And remember to get your grown-up helper to do this bit for you.
16:16Because the oven is hot, hot, hot.
16:24There we go.
16:27And now we wait.
16:32They're as pretty as real flowers, Ben.
16:34Mary Mary Quite Contrary is going to love these.
16:38Oh, no doubt about it, Small.
16:41Just look at the light shining through.
16:46Mmm, they look great.
16:51Fancy flowers coming through.
16:57So, what do we do now?
16:59Can we play?
17:00Not yet.
17:01Time to clean and put away.
17:03Hooray!
17:04Wash, wipe, scrub and clean.
17:14Make the kitchen sparkle and gleam.
17:19My name's Ben.
17:21And my name's Small.
17:23We've got the cleanest kitchen of all.
17:27Tidy all the bits and pop.
17:29The things that help us do our job.
17:31Ingredients well put away.
17:32Ready for use another day.
17:34Pots and pans will start to smell.
17:36If we don't wash them really well.
17:38And now it's clear.
17:39Let's all smile.
17:40We'll be finished in a little while.
17:42All around.
17:42All around.
17:43Up and down.
17:45We've got the cleanest cafe in town.
17:48We've got the cleanest cafe in town.
17:52We've got the cleanest cafe in town.
17:54We've got the cleanest cafe in town.
17:55Aha!
17:55Here comes the plate.
17:57Hey!
17:58It looks like Mary Mary enjoyed her fancy flowers.
18:01And look, Small.
18:03There's a note.
18:04What does it say?
18:05What does it say?
18:07Let's see, shall we?
18:09It says, dear Big Cook Ben and Little Cook Small.
18:13The fancy flowers were yummy.
18:17And to say thank you, here's some real flowers from my garden.
18:21Isn't that kind?
18:24Ben, are you thinking what I'm thinking?
18:27I think I might be.
18:29What are you thinking?
18:31Happy birthday Aunt Millie.
18:33See you soon.
18:36See you soon.
18:37Oh, yeah.
18:41Big Cook, Little Cook.
18:44Welcome to our cafe.
18:48Big Cook, Little Cook.
18:51We'll cook for everyone.
18:54We'll cook for everyone.
19:03Big Cook, Little Cook, Little Cook.
