00:00Big cook, little cook, welcome to our cafe. Big cook, little cook, want you to come and play.
00:17Meeting all the friends we cook for, sharing stories, trips and fun. Big cook, little cook, we'll cook for everyone!
00:30There we go. There. Oh, hello. Welcome to our cafe. The best cafe in the world. Ben's just gone to get some seeds from the shed. I'm looking after the pot.
00:50Hello, everyone. Hello, Small. How's it going? The pot's ready for the seeds.
00:57Oh, well, I found all sorts of things in the shed. I found all these seeds and I found this bean.
01:05It wasn't in any of the seed packets and I've no idea what sort of bean it is.
01:10Oh, I wonder, Ben.
01:12I thought we could plant it and see what it grows into.
01:14That's a great idea, Ben. Can I plant it? Of course you can, Small. Here you go.
01:20Thanks, Ben. Woo-hoo!
01:36There we go, Ben. All done.
01:38Thanks, Small.
01:42Now, what do we do next?
01:44Oh, I know, I know. You put some water.
01:47That's right. All plants need water to grow.
01:51There we are.
01:53Oh.
01:54Brilliant.
02:00And what's next?
02:01Erm, do you cook it in the oven for 40 minutes?
02:05Oh, of course you don't, Small.
02:07Plants need time to grow.
02:09Hey, maybe it will grow into a crayon tree.
02:13Or even better, a marshmallow plant.
02:16Or a bouncy ball tree.
02:19Bounce, bounce, bounce.
02:21I'm going to sit here and wait for it to grow.
02:25Small, plants need time to grow.
02:27They take days and weeks, not minutes.
02:29Really?
02:30Well, I wouldn't want to miss anything.
02:33Come on, Small. We've got a customer.
02:35Better see who it is and I'll put all this planting stuff away.
02:38I'm on my way.
02:42Woo-hoo!
02:48Who's in our cafe today, Small?
02:52He's a boy and he's wearing a hat with a feather in it.
02:57Hmm, I'm not sure.
02:58It's Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk.
03:01He grew the fastest growing bean in the world, Ben.
03:04It reached the clouds.
03:06Wow! Well, we'd better get cooking.
03:09I think it's time to look in my book.
03:11We need a story to help us cook.
03:22Let's take a look in Little Cook's book.
03:26Little Cook's Adventures in the Big World.
03:29Let me see.
03:30It wasn't until Jack planted his bean that he realised it must be a magic bean.
03:38It grew so fast.
03:40A little shoot, a big shoot with lots of leaves, and finally, a giant beanstalk.
03:47When Jack climbed up to the very top, he couldn't believe his eyes.
03:51A giant's castle!
03:54The giant was very friendly and Jack and he soon became great friends.
03:59Jack especially liked playing with the giant's gigantic toys.
04:03But soon it was time for tea, and so Jack said goodbye to the friendly giant and jumped onto the beanstalk.
04:10Jack loved the beanstalk.
04:11You could slither down the stem as if it was a gigantic slide,
04:15and he always found himself back home in no time.
04:18But climbing the beanstalk was much, much more difficult.
04:23I'm so sad because I want to visit the giant every day, said Jack.
04:28The trouble is, the beanstalk takes far too long to climb.
04:32I looked up at the beanstalk.
04:35It really did seem to go on forever.
04:37But luckily, I had a brilliant idea.
04:41Watch this, I said.
04:43I started to work quickly, weaving the leaves together to make rungs like a ladder.
04:49Pretty soon I had made rungs all the way up.
04:51Now the beanstalk was just like a rope ladder, and much easier to climb,
04:56so Jack could visit the giant every day.
04:59Jack was so pleased with his beanstalk ladder that he invited me to play at the giant's castle too.
05:05He was right.
05:06It was great fun.
05:08Little cook to the rescue once again.
05:10That was a great adventure.
05:14Oh yes, what a great story, little cook.
05:16I'd love to see inside a giant's kitchen.
05:19The saucepans would be the size of houses,
05:21and the spoons would be the size of trees.
05:23Whey!
05:25Well then, that's just what it's like for me.
05:28And I've got my very own giant too.
05:30Have you?
05:31Yes, it's you.
05:33Oh, I suppose so.
05:35Come on, Small, we'd better think of something to cook.
05:38Hmm, maybe something with beans.
05:41But what?
05:44Ooh!
05:49I know!
05:51Big Cook's Big Cookery Book!
05:53Of course, the Big Cookery Book.
05:56There's recipes for everything in there.
05:58And where do we look for things to cook?
06:00In the book!
06:01In the book!
06:02In Big Cook's Book!
06:04Oh yes, here it is.
06:07A beanie giant.
06:08A giant's face.
06:10Hey, Jack will be pleased.
06:12And it looks like a recipe for someone who's as hungry as a giant.
06:16Come on, Small, you read out the ingredients,
06:18and I'll see if we've got them.
06:19OK, let's see.
06:21We're going to need sausages.
06:23OK, over to the fridge.
06:24Here we go.
06:26Sausages.
06:27Oh, I've got those, Small.
06:29An egg.
06:30Egg, egg.
06:30One egg.
06:31Yep.
06:32A potato.
06:33Here we are.
06:34One potato.
06:35Yep.
06:36Raisins.
06:37Raisin's got the raisin, Small.
06:39And baked beans.
06:41Beans.
06:42Beans.
06:42Um, ooh, I don't think we've got those.
06:47Here we are.
06:48Everything we need for the recipe.
06:50But we can't make a beanie giant without baked beans, Small.
06:53Well, don't worry, Ben.
06:54I'll whiz off and get some.
06:58Good idea, little cook.
06:59And I'll get all the ingredients ready for a beanie giant.
07:02Hey, why don't you come along too?
07:04Wee-hey!
07:08Go, Small.
07:09Go, Small.
07:10Whiz away.
07:12I wonder what he'll see today.
07:14This looks like fun.
07:25Let's take a look.
07:28Oh, look at all those tin cans.
07:31Hundreds of them.
07:32Oh, they're so noisy.
07:35We buy lots of different foods and tins.
07:38I wonder what we'll be going into these tins.
07:44It's like a train.
07:47Woo-woo!
07:48Chugga-chugga, chugga-chugga.
07:51Let's find out what will be in the tins.
07:54What is it?
07:55What is it?
07:56Oh, they're beans.
07:58Just like the beans that Jack planted.
08:02First of all, the beans have to be washed.
08:06Oh, they're nice and clean now.
08:08Boing, boing, boing, boing, boing, boing.
08:09Oh, that looks like fun.
08:12Here come those noisy tins again.
08:15Can you see?
08:17The tins are being filled with the beans.
08:19But where's the tomato sauce for the baked beans?
08:24Ah, there it is.
08:25That's the tomato sauce.
08:29Ooh, in it goes.
08:30Into the tins with the beans.
08:32Yubby, yubby.
08:34And off to the shops they go.
08:37Baked beans are one of my favourites.
08:38See you later.
08:48There we are.
08:49Everything's ready.
08:50Wahey!
08:53Great!
08:54Now it's time to see if our bean has started growing.
08:59Not yet, Small.
09:00We only planted it a few minutes ago.
09:02It's not like the bean in Jack and the Beanstalk.
09:05Well, it might be.
09:07While we're waiting,
09:08why don't we count the number of beans in this tin I brought back?
09:10Oh, wow.
09:14Thanks, Small.
09:15Now we've got everything we need for the recipe.
09:17You wouldn't believe how many beans can fit into a tin, Ben.
09:21Hundreds and hundreds.
09:22I tried to count them all, but there were too many.
09:25We don't have time to count beans now, Small.
09:28OK, let's get cooking.
09:31We're all ready, so take a look and we will show you how to cook.
09:35We love our cafe and we love to cook.
09:50We have a fantastic recipe book.
09:56He is big cook and he is small.
10:00Friends in our cafe, we cook for them all.
10:04When your tummy gets all rumbly, you're ready for a treat.
10:10You can make something delicious to eat.
10:19Have you cleaned the surfaces?
10:21Yes.
10:21Have you washed your hands?
10:23Yes.
10:24All clean and ready to cook.
10:27Do you remember the ingredients to Beanie Giant?
10:30You do?
10:30There was sausages, three, an egg, one, potato, one, raisins, two, and baked beans, one cup.
10:41Whoopee!
10:42Let's get started!
10:43Woo-hoo!
10:44Now the first thing you need to do is put your potato into the oven for 40 minutes at 230 degrees Celsius, gas mark 8.
10:52We're using the oven, but you can put it into the microwave if you like.
10:55But make sure you get your grown-up helper to do that bit for you because it's going to get hot, hot, hot.
11:00OK.
11:01Now I've already put a potato into the oven, so it's had time to cook.
11:05Hey Ben, you look a bit like the giant in my story.
11:09Do I?
11:11Yes.
11:12I'm like Jack who's small and you're like the giant who's big.
11:16Oh, well.
11:17Fee, fi, fo, thumb.
11:19Oh, OK.
11:22Now it's time to boil the egg.
11:24Now we need the egg hard-boiled, so I've put it into a saucepan and covered it with water.
11:29Turn on the heat.
11:31It should take about ten minutes.
11:33Small, can you set the timer?
11:35The timer's set for ten minutes.
11:38There we go.
11:39What are you doing, small?
11:44I'm waiting for the bean to start growing.
11:46I don't want to miss it.
11:48Well, you'll have a long wait.
11:50I've told you, seeds need time to grow.
11:54Now, our egg has been simmering for the last ten minutes, so it should be hard-boiled.
11:58So I'm going to turn off the heat.
12:01And then pop it into some cold water to cool down.
12:09Come on, little bean.
12:11Come on.
12:12Hey, maybe a rhyme will help.
12:15Little bean, will you show?
12:17Let me see you grow, grow, grow.
12:20Hee-hee.
12:21Oh, small really wants that bean to grow.
12:24I do hope he isn't disappointed.
12:26Now, I'd better get on with our beanie giant.
12:29So, it's time to get the sausages frying.
12:31OK, so I'll pour a little oil into this frying pan.
12:36There we are.
12:37And in go the sausages.
12:43One, two, three.
12:49Turn on the heat.
12:52Now, I'm frying these, but you can also grill them if you like.
12:55That's all a grown-up helper's job to do.
12:58Great.
12:59Now, we can do the beans.
13:00So, pour the beans into a saucepan.
13:03And then turn on the heat.
13:10Now, the beans will only take a few minutes to heat right through.
13:14Maybe our bean would like a dance.
13:16Hey, do you like this little bean?
13:19Woo-hoo!
13:19The potato's cooked and cooled, so I've taken it out of the oven and popped it onto this plate.
13:27And I've just cut it in half.
13:29Like that.
13:30Our sausages have been sizzling now, so I think they're just about done.
13:36I'll turn off the heat.
13:37And pop them onto this plate.
13:41One, two, and three.
13:49Brilliant.
13:52And, yep.
13:53There we go.
13:54The beans are just about cooked now, so once again, off with the heat.
13:58And then, we can start on our giant's face.
14:04Here we go.
14:07Right.
14:08Now, I'm going to put the potato onto a plate.
14:12These are going to be the eyes.
14:15And, I've peeled and sliced our boiled egg.
14:18And I'm going to put one slice on there.
14:23And another slice on there.
14:28Hmm.
14:29Our bean's not growing, Ben.
14:31I've tried a rhyme.
14:33I've tried dancing.
14:35Perhaps singing will help.
14:37Grow, little bean.
14:39Grow up to the sky.
14:40I can climb a beanstalk way up high.
14:43Hey.
14:45The sausages are cooled now.
14:47And I've cut two of them in half lengthways.
14:50Like that.
14:52Great.
14:53So, I'm going to take these two halves.
14:56And put one here.
14:59And here.
15:01These are the giant's eyebrows.
15:03Look at those.
15:04They're just like mine.
15:06And then, I'm going to put the other two down here.
15:11For the giant's mouth.
15:12And the last one I'll put in the middle for our giant's nose.
15:21Now, for the beans.
15:27Hundreds of them.
15:28That's right, Small.
15:31So, I'm going to spoon on.
15:36Up here.
15:37This is for the giant's hair.
15:43And then, another spoonful down at the bottom here.
15:50This is going to be the giant's beard.
15:51And now, for the last bit.
15:57That's right, Small.
15:59We pop our two raisins on the eggy eyes.
16:03To make the giant's pupils.
16:05Hee-hee.
16:06There.
16:07All ready for Jack.
16:09Here we go.
16:10One beanie giant coming through.
16:20So, what do we do now?
16:21Can we play?
16:23Not yet.
16:24Time to clean and put away.
16:26Hooray!
16:26Wash, wipe, scrub and clean.
16:36Make the kitchen sparkle and gleam.
16:41My name's Ben.
16:43And my name's Small.
16:44We've got the cleanest kitchen of all.
16:48Tidy all the bits and bobs.
16:50The things that help us do our job.
16:52Ingredients we'll put away.
16:54Ready for use another day.
16:56Pots and pans will start to smell.
16:58If we don't wash them really well.
17:00And now it's clear.
17:01Let's all smile.
17:02We'll be finished in a little while.
17:03All around.
17:05Up and down.
17:06We've got the cleanest cafe in town.
17:15Aha!
17:16Here comes the plate.
17:18Ho, ho.
17:19I think Jack enjoyed his beanie giant.
17:23And look, Small.
17:24He's left a note.
17:25Well, what does it say?
17:26What does it say?
17:29What's this?
17:30How strange.
17:32It's a little bag of soil.
17:33Read the note, Ben.
17:35It's from Jack.
17:36It says, dear Big Cook Ben and Little Cook Small.
17:40My beanie giant was yummy.
17:43Woo-hoo!
17:44It reminded me of my great friend, the giant, who I'm going to visit later on today.
17:49Oh, are you still waiting for your bean to grow?
17:52Try this little bag of magic soil.
17:54It may help.
17:56Magic soil?
17:57Well, go on, Ben.
17:58Give it a try.
17:59Thanks, Small.
18:01Here goes.
18:09Wow, look at that.
18:11It's getting bigger.
18:12Wow, you're right, Small.
18:14The pot's growing even bigger.
18:17Whoa, this magic soil's really working.
18:21And bigger.
18:22Woo-hoo!
18:23Oh, wow!
18:24It's a magic beanstalk.
18:25See you soon.
18:26Woo-hoo!
18:27Wow!
18:28It's a magic beanstalk.
18:29Hey-hey!
18:30See you soon.
18:31See you soon.
18:32Wow!
18:33Woo-hoo!
18:34Woo-hoo!
18:41Big cook, little cook.
18:43Welcome to our cafe.
18:48Big cook, little cook.
18:50We'll cook for everyone.
18:52We'll cook for everyone.
18:56Big cook, little cook goes down.
