00:00And that none of the training you're about to see be attempted, unless under expert supervision.
00:06Eight braineese, one challenge.
00:09To use complex mass of 100 billion cells we call Brain, for chance to win Brain Jitsu Black Brain Belt.
00:16This is Brain Jitsu.
00:19Born in Lancashire, trained in Japan, with mind as sharp as Samurai sword, he is Brain Master.
00:32He is the Sensei.
00:34Konnichiwa, and welcome to Brain Jitsu.
00:39Mental training specially designed to boost brain power and focus.
00:44My trainees, or braineese, have been following a basic programme of training in the comfort of their own home.
00:51A brain-boosting routine of exercise, sleep, and enough fruit and veg to stock a greengrocer's.
00:59I think I'm really well prepared, and I'm ready for the challenge.
01:02The training's made me more confident about what I'm going to do.
01:05My dad's been giving me lots of cryptic crossword puzzles and stuff like that.
01:09Now my braineese must put their training into practice, by testing the part of their brain we use every day.
01:15Level one.
01:17You're no fault!
01:19Take a look at this fish tank.
01:21How many white fish are there?
01:25Did you get two?
01:28Congratulations!
01:29You've just used your occipital lobes.
01:32This area, the same part of our brain, allows us to recognise and separate images from each other.
01:39The seven braineese who use their occipital lobes the best, will be allowed to enter my brain jitsu dojo, where their training will continue.
01:48One who fails will be left outside.
01:51Oh!
01:52Feel the burn.
01:53Enter the dojo!
01:55Braineese must answer four questions, by counting the different team kits on the board in front of them.
02:04Get them right, and they'll be left with a four-digit code, which they must then use to unlock a piece of brain, and secure their place in the dojo.
02:12But with only seven pieces of brain, and eight braineese, one of either Charlie T, Shanna, Milo, Naptali, Charlie B, Alice, Alex, or Shireen, will be left outside and eliminated.
02:27The atmosphere in the noodle bar is more strained than a sumo wrestler's waistband, as the four questions are revealed.
02:34How many players have an all-green kit?
02:36How many players have blue in their kit?
02:52How many players have non-matching kit?
02:55How many players have stripes on their kit?
03:09The answer our braineese are looking for is 4887.
03:16Alex is first up, but has he got the code right?
03:19A few more braineese are off the stools, but Alex is already on his way back to have another go.
03:25The key to the task is to stay calm and really focus on getting the answers right.
03:32Don't rush, and don't be put off by the others around you.
03:35Milo's expression is more intense than a mouthful of fish sauce.
03:39He's really staying focused, and he's taking his time finding his answer.
03:42Don't forget, the code our braineese are looking for is 4887, as there are four players with an all-green kit, eight players with blue in their kit, eight players with non-matching kits, and seven players with stripes on their kit.
03:57Milo's focus has paid off big time, as he's the first to finish, while some of the others, like Charlie T and Alex, are on their second or third go.
04:08Charlie B is next to finish, and it's definitely a high-five moment.
04:17Alice is the first of the girls to crack the code, and Nap-Tali, Charlie T and Shanna soon follow close behind, leaving just Alex and Shireen to battle it out for the final space in the dojo.
04:28They've both got an answer at the same time, but Alex has cut Shireen up to get to the brain first.
04:42Alex is wrong again, and Shireen's in there like a shot, practically pushing him out the way.
04:49And it looks like she's right to be eager, because she's got the correct code and claimed her place in the dojo.
04:55Alex looks gutted. He's out.
05:00So, as seven enter the dojo, for a chance to survive six more gruelling levels of brain training,
05:06for Alex, the dream of the black belt has ended before it's even started.
05:16Somebody had to go out in the first round, and, yeah, it was me.
05:20I think if I had done more training, I'd have had a better chance of getting through.
05:25I think Milo's going to win, because he's clever.
05:28So, with six levels to go, only Charlie B, Charlie T, Nap-Tali, Shanna, Alice, Shireen and Milo have entered the dojo,
05:37and achieved the first of their coloured brain belts.
05:40I was really, really nervous. I was shaking.
05:43And I came out, like, I'm glad I got through.
05:45Lots of other people seem to be finding it quite hard, but I just seem to get it quite quickly.
05:49I really want the black belt baggy, because it's just amazing just to get it.
05:56In this next level of training, things are going to get really hard.
06:03Level two. Orange belt.
06:05We do things every day without even thinking about it, like kicking a football.
06:13But you try kicking it with the foot, whoo, you don't normally use.
06:17It's not easy, is it?
06:18If you manage to do that, you're using part of your brain that deals with problem solving, the frontal lobes.
06:27And that's what level two is all about.
06:30Taking something you normally do without thinking, and doing it differently.
06:35Work it.
06:36To prepare them for using their frontal lobes in the next challenge, my brainees are going to need some training.
06:42Room of Mental Nourishment.
06:45The Room of Mental Nourishment is where our young hopefuls will train their brains to help them progress to the next levels of the dojo.
06:53The more seriously they take their training, the better chance they'll have of rising to the challenges that lie ahead.
06:58And in level two, that challenge is all about getting their brains to think in a new way.
07:04Brain training. Take turns to call out the action on your cards.
07:08Everyone must do it only when you say, Sensei says.
07:12Okay, everybody stand up, let's do this.
07:14So, for this frontal lobes training, Charlie B kicks them off.
07:18Right then.
07:19Look sad.
07:22Loser!
07:23All right, Milo.
07:26You may have won the first challenge, but not everyone can be as perfect as you.
07:29Okay.
07:30Sensei says, shot left eye.
07:35Sensei, step backwards.
07:36This training makes our brainies work their frontal lobes, as they have to really think about something they would normally do without thinking at all.
07:44Rub the stomach clockwise.
07:46I'm the loser!
07:48Training tip time, Milo.
07:50Tip, don't rush.
07:52Pause for two seconds to think before you react.
07:56If you wait two seconds, someone might think you're a loser.
07:58That's true.
07:59But, Charlie T, if you rush straight in, you might actually be the loser.
08:03Stand up.
08:07Sit down.
08:08Yeah, everyone should sit down.
08:09I really want to sit down, that's why I said that.
08:11I'm not for him.
08:12Keep tongue and mouth.
08:15There.
08:17If you want to work your frontal lobes at home, why not try this exercise with your mates or your brothers and sisters?
08:22It's great fun, and will help improve your all-round focus.
08:26Knee up.
08:29Oh, you're loose!
08:31So, the training turned out to be a right old knees up, but how did our brainies think it went?
08:36I think the tip was useful.
08:38You could have to think to yourself whether it's a good idea or not.
08:41I'm really excited but really nervous about the next challenge, because we have no idea what it is.
08:46Will Charlie T think before he reacts?
08:49Will Shireen's nerves get the better of her?
08:53And can Milo the Marvellous keep his unblemished record in the next challenge?
08:57There's only one way to find out, as our seven now put their frontal lobes train into the test.
09:03Guardian of the Dojo and Task Adjudicator the Sheehan will now demonstrate the level two challenge.
09:09Big ball collard match.
09:11Each brainy must pick two balls by calling out pair of coordinates from grid.
09:18For example, B2 and D3.
09:22Aim is to find two balls of same color, matching not word on each ball, but color that word is written in.
09:30So, in this case, they will have to remember that this ball was red and this one blue.
09:35If brainy's uncover match, they will progress to next level.
09:40Last brainy to find pair will be eliminated.
09:43My brainy tip for this task is to focus the mind on just one letter and not the whole word.
09:49What's important here is not the word, but the color that it's written in.
09:54Here are those colours now.
10:00Three, two, one.
10:03First to pick a pair is the winner of the first task, Meal or the Marvellous.
10:08B, three.
10:12C, four.
10:16No pair, but can he remember green and black for his next turn?
10:20A, one.
10:21Don't forget, our brainy's must ignore the word and remember only the color the word is written in.
10:27That's blue.
10:28A, two.
10:32And another blue.
10:34Holy smoke, mackerel sushi.
10:36That Charlie B was clearly born under a lucky star.
10:39A pair straight away.
10:42C, five.
10:43Four.
10:44Alice isn't thinking differently.
10:47B, three.
10:48In fact, she's not thinking at all, because those were Meal or's balls.
10:52She'll have to engage her brain and her training better if she wants to go through.
10:55B, two.
10:58An orange.
10:59A, three.
11:01And a red.
11:02Two new colours there to add to the mix.
11:04Now Charlie T.
11:05D, one.
11:09Another orange.
11:10Will Charlie T use his training to uncover Naphtali's orange ball?
11:13B, two.
11:20He's done it.
11:21That's two brainy's through to level three.
11:23B, three.
11:26C, three.
11:29No pair for Shanna.
11:30Now Shireen.
11:31A, three.
11:32That was Naphtali's pick a few moves ago.
11:34Two D.
11:36Shireen chanced a look, but no pair.
11:38Back to Mealow.
11:39B, four.
11:40You can see from Mealow's face that he thinks there's a pink out there somewhere,
11:45but has he seen the colour or has he read the word?
11:48D, three.
11:51Mealow's only remembered the word pink.
11:54He needs to use his frontal lobe training to see the colour.
11:56A, four.
11:58A few more moves sees Naphtali and Shanna through,
12:01leaving just Mealow, Shireen and Alice to battle it out for the last two orange brain belts.
12:06C, one.
12:07So, Mealow's looking for a pink one again.
12:11D, three.
12:13Unbelievable.
12:13He's made the same mistake and found the word pink.
12:16He really has forgotten his training.
12:18C, two.
12:20C, four.
12:22Without hesitation, Alice uncovers that other black.
12:25So it's now a two-horse race.
12:27This is Shireen's second time in the bottom two.
12:30She said she was nervous after the training.
12:32Can she find her frontal lobe focus?
12:34Here are the remaining colours.
12:36Three B.
12:39Shireen takes her time as she concentrates on the colour green.
12:45Three D.
12:45That's it.
12:55Shireen's pulled it out of the bag at the last minute yet again.
12:58How many chances has that girl got?
13:00She's in and Mealow the Marvellous is out.
13:03The She-Han relieves him of his yellow brain belt and he's off to make the long and lonely.
13:08Walk of eternal regret.
13:13Coming first in the challenge to get into the dojo really lifted my spirits.
13:17But then in that last level I didn't really think back to the training.
13:20I was going to get the pair but then Shireen guessed it before I did and I knew that that was the right pair.
13:25I think Naptali's probably quite a strong contender because she got through quite quickly and also she didn't seem to have much trouble getting into the dojo.
13:32So with five levels to go only Charlie B, Charlie T, Naptali, Shanna, Alice and Shireen have gained their orange brain belts.
13:42The training helped me focus and think about which of the balls I was going to show.
13:48We went head to head.
13:49Me and Mealow I think it was really gutted to be out.
13:51I tried to make it simple for me so I did A1 and A2 and by complete luck they were both blue.
14:00I felt absolutely stunned.
14:05Brain T2
14:06Brainy, not so brainy.
14:12Who's the clever clogs and whose brain needs a lot more training?
14:15Picture the scene, it's 250 years ago and a lad called Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is only six years old and already playing the Arpsichord, composing amazing music and performing it to the Empress of Austria.
14:27But did he stop there? No he did not. He only went on to write another 600 major works. Not bad for someone who only lived to the age of 35.
14:36Wolfgang-tastic.
14:37Get a load of this looks. What a racket.
14:40TV talent shows are bursting at the seams with tuneless musical wannabes desperate for fame.
14:45Mr. Mozart will be turning in his grave.
14:48Brainy, Mozart, not so brainy, musical wannabes.
14:54Brain Jitsu
14:55Pressure in Brain Jitsu Dojo rising.
15:00Now just six young hopeful remain to compete under watchful eye of Sheehan.
15:04Lucky Charlie B, for whom good fortune shone in last challenge.
15:09Natalie
15:10It'd be really nice to get the black belt. I'd be really, really pleased.
15:15Alice, first of girls in level one and strong contender for black belt.
15:19See you find.
15:20Charlie T
15:20The training helped because it helped me focus.
15:24Shanna, who is placed midway in both rounds.
15:27And second chance Shireen.
15:29If I was out, I would be a bit shocked, but I'd still feel really bad at my lower now.
15:34Challenges now get even tougher, and only two brainy will make to final test.
15:40Table of Supreme Focus.
15:42Where must move ball with power of mind?
15:45For chance to win, Brain Jitsu Black Brain Belt.
15:48It's time for...
15:49Level 3.
15:51Win them!
15:51Now, we all like to chat, but did you know that using words to communicate is one of the main reasons why our brains have grown so incredibly powerful?
16:02And that having a conversation exercises both halves of the brain.
16:07Now, if all that's doing you're heading, allow me to explain.
16:11Think of it like air traffic control.
16:14While a pilot has to focus on landing just one plane, an air traffic controller is responsible for landing all sorts of planes.
16:22It's the same with the brain.
16:25There's the left half, which deals with the details, and there's the right half, which looks at the overall picture.
16:31This next level of training strengthens my brainy's focus by working one half of their brain under pressure.
16:38Hey, pump it up!
16:41Room of Mental Nourishment.
16:44It's our second visit to the brain training room of Mental Nourishment.
16:50Brainy's have a choice as to whether they take part or not, but any extra training they do will help them with their next challenge.
16:57OK.
16:58For level 3, it's communication training.
17:00Get into two groups.
17:02One brainy describes how the blocks fit together.
17:05The other group puts them together.
17:07So, our brainy's are in two groups.
17:09One group should use the right side of their brains to describe clearly how to build the shape.
17:15The other team should use the left side of their brains to concentrate on interpreting those instructions to make it.
17:21What are the colours with them?
17:22What are the colours of blue?
17:24You put them together, like, so they're...
17:26When it's in front of me, Charlie.
17:27Yeah, so...
17:28Yeah, so they're like...
17:30So they make...
17:31So that...
17:32So that...
17:33Yeah, yeah, yeah.
17:33They're touching.
17:34Yeah, and then it's a two...
17:36And it's two by four now.
17:37One question, lucky Charlie B.
17:39Does your B stand for bad communicator?
17:42The key to this training is to talk one at a time and listen to each other.
17:47Brainy's must work as one team.
17:49After all, they might be on the other side of the fence in the next challenge.
17:53You guys, is it your right or our right?
17:55Your...
17:56Don't forget, we're facing each other.
17:58It still should be on your right.
18:00If it's exactly the same thing.
18:01She's smart, that Alice.
18:03You know the long one, which has four...
18:05It's similar.
18:05Oh, it has four rectangles.
18:07Which one should be on our side?
18:09The blue one's facing you.
18:10Okay.
18:11And the red's behind it.
18:12Right here, yeah, yeah.
18:13Charlie T., you should be concentrating on listening to the instructions.
18:17I don't get it.
18:18I don't really understand.
18:19Join the club, Shanna.
18:20Time for a training tip.
18:24You short, clear instructions.
18:26Imagine yourself hearing them.
18:28So, like, when you guys are saying it, imagine you're us.
18:31Okay, shall we start again, then?
18:33Yeah, let's take it apart.
18:34Okay, take it all apart.
18:35So, which is the base square?
18:37It's a two by two blue square.
18:39Yeah, we got that.
18:40Above that, there's a four by one blue rectangle.
18:44Behind the blue four by one, you should have a red four by one.
18:48Finally, it sinks in.
18:49Second chance Shireen and smart Alice are being very clear with their instructions, and the block is built.
18:55I don't really know who was the best instructor, because I couldn't really see them, but it sounded like Charlie B. was quite good.
19:01I think the next task is going to be difficult, because it's been getting harder as we go along, I think.
19:07Smart Alice and second chance Shireen did well in the training.
19:11Will they shine in the next challenge?
19:13Will Charlie T. learn to listen?
19:15And will Nap Tali learn her left from her right?
19:17Time to find out, as our six put their communication training to the test, as they compete for their green brain belts.
19:25Balloon pop number drop.
19:28This level tests how well our brainies can communicate.
19:32So, our six need to be in teams of two.
19:34The chopsticks will decide the pairs.
19:41So, there's lucky Charlie B. and Shanna, smart Alice and second chance Shireen,
19:46and Charlie T. and Nap Tali, who didn't know who left from her right in the training.
19:50Things are about to get interesting.
19:52Quickly as possible, teams must burst six balloon, containing number, which go together to form some.
19:59Pairs need to decide who is Guider, who is Popper.
20:03With Popper unable to see under helmet, they will be relying on Guider to help them burst balloon.
20:09When all balloon popped, brainies stop clock by shouting,
20:15RENJITZU!
20:15The key to success here is for the Guider to use the right side of their brain to follow their teammates' progress and give them clear instructions.
20:44For their partner, it's vital they use the left side of their brain to focus on these instructions and nothing else.
20:53Forward, slowly.
20:56First, to put the communication training to the test, are Nap Tali and Charlie T.
21:00Go.
21:00They were both on the listening team in the training, so how well will Charlie T do as the Guider?
21:06Left.
21:07Stop.
21:08Backwards.
21:09Backwards a bit.
21:10You're being very clear, Charlie, but this challenge is about communicating under pressure,
21:14and your instructions are slower than a sushi bar conveyor belt.
21:18Jump again.
21:21Backwards a bit.
21:22Jump again.
21:25Nap Tali needs to pop till the numbers drop.
21:28Put your helmet into it, girl.
21:30Good.
21:31OK.
21:31Forward.
21:32Jump.
21:33Jump.
21:35Jump.
21:37Jump.
21:39Backwards a bit.
21:40BRAD JITZU!
21:41With the final balloon burst, their time is a respectable one minute, 18 seconds.
21:48Smart Alice and second chance Shireen were both on the talking team in the training.
21:53Can Alice kick the left side of her brain into action to interpret Shireen's instructions?
21:58Left.
22:00Forward.
22:01Jump.
22:01It's a good start for the girls.
22:03Shireen is using her training well.
22:04Back a bit.
22:07Forward.
22:07Tiny bit right.
22:12You're racing against the clock, remember, Shireen?
22:14That pause was bigger than Mount Fuji.
22:18Forward.
22:20Brain JITZU.
22:21Shireen forgets to say brain JITZU straight away, costing her team valuable seconds.
22:26But with a time of one minute nine, they're in the lead.
22:30Now for Shanna and look at Charlie Bean.
22:32Forward.
22:33He talked and she listened in the training, and they've gone for the same combo here,
22:37in the hope that the correct sides of their brains are already warmed up.
22:41Um, right.
22:43Shanna having trouble with the first balloon there.
22:46Um, back a bit.
22:49Jump.
22:51Yes.
22:52Right, left.
22:53Charlie Bean has remembered his training, and his instructions are as clear as a Japanese see-through fish.
22:58Right, a little tiny bit.
23:00Forward.
23:01Jump.
23:02Right.
23:04Shanna had trouble with the first balloon, but now she's popped, she just can't stop.
23:07Brain JITZU.
23:09Shanna and Charlie Bean have pipped Alice and Shireen to the post by just two seconds, with a time of 1.07.
23:15So, as the fastest team, they set off first to collect their numbers and complete their sum.
23:21Here's what our brainies are looking for.
23:24See if you can work out the answer.
23:25Charlie Bean and Shanna are already back with their numbers, and lucky Charlie doesn't hesitate with the answer.
23:37Nap Charlie struggling with the symbols there.
23:40Smart Alice totally focused on the equation, and it pays off.
23:45Charlie T and Nap Charlie's struggle means the last to finish.
23:48And as the other teams have got their sums right, they have to go face-to-face in the...
23:56Stare Off.
24:03With just one green belt up for grabs, both brainies must use all their powers of focus to fight the urge to blink.
24:09The first to falter will be eliminated.
24:11Blink in heck, Nap Charlie's in, and it's Ayanara to Charlie T.
24:20He's out.
24:21Walk of eternal regret.
24:31I'm really, really devastated because I thought I was going to get the next belt.
24:36I could have communicated more with Nap Charlie.
24:39I could have said warmer and colder.
24:43I'm not sure, but Shanna or Charlie, I really think are going to win.
24:47So, with four levels left, it's green brain belts for Charlie B, Nap Charlie, Shanna, Alice and Shireen.
24:56The tip card said to give short and sharp instructions, so it would be easier to understand, and that helped me quite a lot.
25:04Now, not only am I the only Charlie in the game, but I'm the only boy in the game, which is really scary.
25:14Rain T and me.
25:17Level four.
25:19Blue belt.
25:21This fourth level requires our brainies to master a primitive part of the brain called the amygdala, the area that responds to threat.
25:34Remember the last time you felt afraid or panicky?
25:37Maybe you were just about to sit an exam.
25:39Well, that feeling was triggered by the old amygdala.
25:44Now, stress can make you lose focus.
25:47Fact.
25:48Which is why my brainies must train to keep their emotions under control.
25:54Room of Mental Nourishment.
25:56We're back in the room of Mental Nourishment, and it's time for our five green belt holders to focus on overcoming their fear.
26:06Brain training.
26:07Form a circle.
26:08Pass the disgusting drink around the circle, only passing it on when you have said the name of a different animal.
26:14After one minute.
26:15The brainie holding the drink has to drink it.
26:18Rabbit.
26:18The gross drink is actually seaweed.
26:21Yuck.
26:22Fox.
26:24Lion.
26:25And panther.
26:27Lucky Charlie B hesitates and seems to be a bit anxious, but that could just be because he's surrounded by girls.
26:34Cats.
26:35And Shanna hesitates too.
26:37She's letting the fear of the drink get to her instead of focusing on thinking of an animal.
26:41Jaguar.
26:42Monkey.
26:44Gorilla.
26:45Scary Shanna's hesitated again.
26:47Cottage.
26:50And again.
26:51And this time it's cost her one sip of the yucky drink, and she really isn't keen.
26:56Okay, okay, get out a big drink of this afterwards.
26:58Once you've done it, it's all over.
26:59Yeah, just take a big cup and then gosses down the throat and just swirl it like it's taking a tablet.
27:04It's not going to kill you.
27:05Five, four, three, two, one.
27:11Training tip time.
27:13Tip.
27:13Concentrate.
27:15Try to blank out the time and fear of the drink to avoid panicking.
27:19Sounds good.
27:20Pretty good tip.
27:21Dolphin.
27:23Toad.
27:24Shark.
27:24The training tip seems to have worked, because now no one's even pausing for breath.
27:29Salmon.
27:30Jaguar.
27:30Chino.
27:31Millipede.
27:32Worm.
27:33Bee.
27:33That means another minute's up, and Charlie B has to drink.
27:38Take a Charlie B.
27:39I'm not on.
27:40I'm not on.
27:40I'm not on.
27:41It's warm, isn't it?
27:42Pretty impressive.
27:43That was a fearless sip of something so disgusting.
27:47I'm really scared of the next challenge, because I think it's kind of related to what we've just done here.
27:52I just thought, so what?
27:54So what if it tastes horrible?
27:56It doesn't matter.
27:57I wasn't scared, but maybe if it were the content, I would have kind of freaked out.
28:02Can Charlie B's fearless attitude see him through to the next level?
28:06Will Naphtali freak out at what's in store?
28:09Or will scaredy Shanna be out of the door, Joe?
28:11It's time to find out, as our five put their brain train into the test, in a fear-filled challenge that will decide who gets their blue brain belt.
28:21Creepy Crawly Word Grab.
28:24This level will test of mind over matter for brainies, and will push them to really overcome their fear.
28:31Underneath the creepy crawlies lie an assortment of letters worth different points.
28:35Brainies have just one minute to plunge hands into tank, and pick out up to seven letters each.
28:41They then have a further minute to make higher-scoring words they can.
28:47To do well, my brainies must block out the signals coming from their amygdala, and ignore the creepy crawlies.
28:55The quicker they combat their fear, the more time they'll have to pick out the high-scoring letters.
29:02My gosh.
29:06Oh, my gosh, that's disgusting.
29:09Brainies should dig deep, because underneath the pile of worms are an extra five golden letters.
29:15If our brainies manage to use one in their word, they'll double their score.
29:21Natali is really freaking out, just like she predicted.
29:25She must really focus on the letters and override her amygdala, or she'll be out.
29:29Smart Alice is laughing in the face of fear, as she delves into the wormy letters.
29:36What a great use of her training.
29:38Lucky Charlie B was pretty fearless when it came to sipping the drink, and his focus is showing here.
29:44He's been very methodical, and concentrating hard on the letters, not the worms.
29:49Scaredy Shanna not looking so scaredy anymore.
29:51She's obviously taking the training on board.
29:53So is Shireen.
29:54They're both focusing well.
29:57The minute's up.
29:58Our brainies now have a further minute to make the highest scoring word they can from their letters.
30:04See if you can make a word from the anagram on the screen now.
30:07So, how have our green belt holders fared?
30:21Eve.
30:22Lucky Charlie B didn't need luck for that one.
30:25Six points.
30:26Paul.
30:27Perfect.
30:28Smart Alice lives up to her name and is ecstatic.
30:30Eight points.
30:32AC.
30:33It may mean air conditioning to you and me, but the rules state that the Sheehan can't allow abbreviations, no points, and Naptali's dumbfounded.
30:43Pear.
30:44Fortunately for Shanna, you do get something for a pear in this game.
30:48Six points to be precise.
30:50Finally, second chance Shireen.
30:51Quez.
30:52It sounds like a Mexican cheese, but will the Sheehan allow it?
30:55No.
30:56Nil point for Shireen, too, which means that Charlie B, Alice and Shanna have won their blue belts.
31:01But for Naptali and Shireen, it all hangs on the...
31:05High Break Chopstick Challenge.
31:09It's tough but fair.
31:10Our braineers must engage their occipital lobes, the seeing part of their brain, and quickly work out how many chopsticks they see.
31:17They have just five seconds to write down their answer.
31:20If they lose focus and panic under the pressure, it'll all be over.
31:24Time to reveal our braineers' answers.
31:27Naptali.
31:2850.
31:29Shireen.
31:3083.
31:31The actual number is...
31:35So, Naptali's answer of 50 was furthest from the correct number of 94 chopsticks.
31:41Second chance Shireen has done it yet again.
31:43She's in and Naptali's out.
31:48Walk of eternal regret.
31:51I'm sad to be out, but I hope Shanna wins because she's really good.
31:57So, with only three levels to go, Charlie B, Shanna, Alice and Shireen proudly wear their blue braine belts.
32:06I was so nervous I put on one number, then I changed it.
32:09So, I'm really glad that I managed to get a good word and I didn't go out.
32:16Brain T2.
32:20Brainy.
32:21Not so brainy.
32:22Who's the clever clogs and whose brain needs a lot more training?
32:27Doctors.
32:28I love them if you feel ill.
32:30All you have to do is go and see them and it'll help you get better.
32:32No wonder.
32:33They spend around seven years at medical school and then up to four years training.
32:37Enough respect.
32:39Stethoscope-tastic.
32:40Right.
32:40It's doctors again, but this time of the 17th century.
32:43This load of quacks believe that our personalities came from one of four types of fluids flowing through our bodies.
32:49What a load of nutters.
32:51Ooh, don't mind if I do.
32:53Brainy.
32:53Modern doctors.
32:55Not so brainy.
32:5617th century quacks.
32:59Brain T2.
33:00Attention in Brain Jitsu Dojo Mountain.
33:04Now just four young locals remain to compete on the watchful eye of Sheehan.
33:09The journey has already been more surprising than sumo in stilettos.
33:14Smart Alice.
33:15First and last challenge.
33:17She won to beat.
33:19Lucky Charlie B.
33:20Only boy left in dojo.
33:21I was really, really scared about the worms.
33:24I really didn't like it.
33:26Shanna.
33:27Dark horse.
33:27Who's coming up on inside?
33:30And second chance Shireen, who has more lives than Japanese cat.
33:34It was terrifying being in the tie break.
33:36My heart still hurts.
33:38Only two brainy will make final test.
33:41Table of supreme focus.
33:43Where must move ball with power of mind.
33:46Brain Jitsu Black Brain Belt is within grasp.
33:49Now, time for level five.
33:52Red belt.
33:54Now, if you're learning to climb trees like Tarzan, then you might be interested to know that your new hobby is doing wonders for the old grey matter.
34:03Exercising both the thinking part of the brain, the cerebrum, and the doing part, the cerebellum.
34:09You see, doing new things increases the flow of blood into your head, which keeps your brain cells topped up with the oxygen they need to perform at their best.
34:20So, in level five, my brainees are going to be challenged to learn new skills.
34:25Now, you can speed up how quickly the brain takes in new stuff.
34:29And this is what our brainees are going to train for now.
34:33Room of Mental Nourishment.
34:39It's our brainees' fourth visit to the Room of Mental Nourishment.
34:42And for this brain training exercise, they're going to be really working their brains by learning something new.
34:48Brain training.
34:49Flip and catch as many coasters as you can.
34:52Well, I guess these are the coasters then.
34:54There's no food in Smart Alice, is there?
34:58Yay!
34:58Got one.
34:59How do you do it? Do I get it?
35:02All right.
35:05Yes, I can do it.
35:06No, it's not down, it's up.
35:08All right.
35:08Now, you've been doing that.
35:09Sorry.
35:10This training combines both mental and physical skills.
35:14Our brainees are stretching the thinking part of their brain by concentrating on their new skill.
35:19And they're also flexing the doing part of their brain by performing the physical action.
35:25Oh!
35:27They're all flipping rubbish.
35:28Training tip time, I reckon.
35:31Approach this positively.
35:32Laugh out loud for 30 seconds.
35:34Did you know that a fit of the giggles increases your heart rate, sending extra oxygen into your brain and helping it work at full capacity?
35:44Our brainees are certainly embracing the training tip, but will it help with their wrist-flick course-to-catch action?
35:51The training tip has definitely encouraged everyone because suddenly our brainees are doing more flips than a Japanese Olympic gymnast.
36:01Second chance Shireen is taking things very seriously.
36:04Drum roll, please.
36:05I'm getting better at this.
36:09You think so, Shireen?
36:11Let's just watch that again.
36:12Oh, well.
36:13She is trying.
36:14The training has helped me become more positive, so it might help me get a more positive mood for the next challenge.
36:20She may not be catching the coasters, but that kind of positivity is sure to help smart Alice with the next level.
36:27Will second chance Shireen do better with the challenge than she did with the coasters?
36:30Only time will tell, as our four now put their new skills training to the test to compete for their red brain belts.
36:40Crazy Brain Buzz Wire
36:42To win red belt, brainee must guide hoop-on helmet from one end of wire to other.
36:48It's race against clock, but brainee must take care.
36:52If they touch wire, not only do they collect five-second penalty, they also receive brain buzz from brabating helmet.
37:00But most funny, brainee with slowest time will be eliminated.
37:05The tip for my brainees in this next task is to remain calm and think positive thoughts.
37:12Giving in to frustration will only lessen their focus and slow them up.
37:17So, will our brainees remember their training and stay mentally positive, or will they let the pressure get to them?
37:24First off is lucky Charlie B.
37:26Of all our brainees, he found the training most helpful,
37:29but will it help him with the buzz wire?
37:34Is the tongue for added balance?
37:36Possibly not.
37:38I have to say, this lucky little lad certainly has stature on his side.
37:42There's no need for bending.
37:44Not many mistakes so far.
37:46Charlie B. is really using his positive mental focus to conquer this new physical skill.
37:51And positivity positively shines out of him, as he thinks the job's a good'un.
38:00Smart Alice is kneeling like she's at a Japanese dinner party, but without the cushions.
38:07Excellent knee shuffle.
38:08Alice was very positive in her training, and it's paying off.
38:11Not many mistakes so far.
38:13The focus on her face is as plain as boiled rice.
38:19It's a smooth finish, and she's obviously relieved.
38:23Now for Shanna.
38:25Also a fan of the tongue technique, I see.
38:31Suffering sushi.
38:35Shanna seems to be feeling physical pain for her lack of mental concentration.
38:39She mustn't lose confidence.
38:42A look of joy and jazz hands that she's finished.
38:46Now, second chance Shireen.
38:53Harsh.
38:54Four buzzes in a row.
38:56Shireen didn't do well in the training, and here again, she seems to be struggling to combine mental focus with physical agility.
39:04A bad finish.
39:05But which of her brainies has found this a brain challenge too far?
39:12With four penalties, Charlie B's total time is 1 minute 14 seconds.
39:17With just three penalties, Smart Alice comes in at 1 minute 29 seconds.
39:23With nine penalties, Shanna's total is 1 minute 34 seconds.
39:27So, Alice and Charlie are through, but will Shireen beat Shanna?
39:31With a whopping 14 penalties, Shireen's total time is 2 minutes 23, which means that Shanna's in, and second chance Shireen is actually out.
39:42Walk of eternal regret.
39:46I wanted to get around the challenge for the black belt, but I think everybody else has also done really, really well.
39:52I think Shanna's going to win Brain Jets here because she's not scared of many things.
39:59So, with only two levels left, Charlie B, Shanna and Alice stand proud in red.
40:05I'm really impressed with myself because I thought I'm not going to make it that time.
40:08I really thought that was it for me.
40:11The buzzwire was quite nerve-wracking at the beginning.
40:13I thought it was going to be really scary when it went buzz.
40:17I'm going to win it for the boys.
40:23Brain Jets!
40:27Level 6.
40:29Roll boat!
40:31The level 6 my brainies will draw on all they've learnt so far, in their toughest test of focus yet.
40:38That's because it's this level which will decide which two of my remaining brainies will go on to battle it out.
40:45With a black belt.
40:49Now, imagine you're performing a magic trick.
40:52You've got all the secret little moves to remember, and there's an audience watching you.
40:57It's remembering stuff like this under pressure that level 6 is all about.
41:02It centres around three areas of the brain.
41:06The seeing part, the occipital lobes.
41:09The memory part, the temporal lobes.
41:12And the movement part, the cerebellum.
41:15To the max.
41:18Room of mental nourishment.
41:22With only three brainies remaining, this penultimate brain training challenge is all about memory training.
41:29Right, here's the cover.
41:31Brain training.
41:32Memorise the sequence of colours.
41:33You look confused, Alice.
41:37This training session is to exercise our brainies' occipital lobes, or seeing part of their brain, and their temporal lobes, their memory bank, by memorising the sequence of colours.
41:46Purple, yellow, orange, pink, green, blue, red, pink, green, silver.
41:53Let's just pretend it's a song, you know, turn it into, like, into words.
41:56She's not called smart Alice for nothing, you know.
41:58Good idea, love.
42:00Purple, yellow, orange, pink.
42:02Green, blue, red, pink, green, silver.
42:05He may be flatter than a Japanese pancake, but has the song helped Charlie B memorise the order.
42:11Purple, yellow, orange.
42:13No.
42:13Was it?
42:14Yeah.
42:14Purple.
42:15No.
42:16Purple, yellow, orange, pink.
42:18Green, green, green.
42:22OK.
42:22Well, it's a start.
42:23How is it easiest to remember them?
42:25Maybe purple, yellow, orange.
42:28Alice and Shanna seem too shy to sing.
42:30Time for a training tip.
42:33Tip.
42:34Create a song linking the colours together.
42:36I've already done that.
42:37Now the girls have got no choice but to get their pipes warmed up to sing.
42:41So let's make some round.
42:42OK.
42:43I think you're supposed to remember them in the way it was.
42:46Yeah, but then if we do it like this, then we'll be better at this.
42:49Because we already know that, but we have no idea.
42:51Green, green, pink, pink.
42:52Alice is right, Shanna.
42:53The more you challenge your memory, the better it gets.
42:55Green, green, pink, pink.
42:57Red, purple, orange, yellow.
43:00Shanna has ignored the training tip and still isn't really singing.
43:03Shall I test you?
43:04No.
43:05OK.
43:06Green, green, pink, pink.
43:08Red.
43:10What is it?
43:11Yeah, red.
43:12No, it's purple.
43:13OK, yours are.
43:14How about you?
43:15OK, you can test them.
43:17Now Shanna's avoiding having her own memory training tested by testing Charlie again.
43:21Not that he's complaining.
43:22Green, green, pink, pink, red, purple, orange, yellow, silver, blue.
43:31Perfect.
43:32No, perfect it wasn't, but memory perfect it was.
43:36I suggested that we put it into a song, and I've done that before, and it really helped,
43:41I think.
43:42I remember how many syllables each thing has, and it's easier to remember like that.
43:46I'll sort of divide it into bits.
43:47So, Alice second-guessed the training tip, but will it help her with the next memory challenge?
43:52Will Charlie B turn his musical talent into memory talent?
43:56And will Shanna's shyness to sing lead her to lose?
44:00It's time to find out, as our three red belt holders put their memory training to the test.
44:07Super Memory Dizzy Dash.
44:11Each brainy is spinned round on Dizzy Wheel, total of ten times.
44:16Task is to use all power of focus to memorize five images in front of them.
44:21Then, race against clock to cross-balancing beam, and collect the same five images from ten hanging
44:29above them.
44:30Then, must arrange pictures based on size of object, starting with smallest.
44:38When brainy happy with selection, hit the gong!
44:45My tip for the brainy's is to keep focused on the main objective, and use their training
44:50to link the five images together.
44:54So, our final three brave the wheel to compete for their brown brain belt, and for a chance
44:59to triumph over the table of supreme focus.
45:02Time to spin.
45:04Will their memory training help our brainy's ignore the effects of the wheel, and memorize
45:09the images?
45:10The order they're looking for is at the bottom of the screen.
45:15Looker Charlie B is up first.
45:17He excelled in the training.
45:19I wonder if we're going to be treated to a song again.
45:20I can't.
45:24This really is the ultimate test of distraction for our brainy's.
45:28Not only are they under pressure as they race against the clock, but they also have to
45:32fight their dizziness to collect only the five images they saw from the ten hanging above
45:36them.
45:37Then, they have to arrange those images in order of size, starting with the smallest.
45:43Charlie B taking his time with the order, leaving the other images on the floor, so he has the
45:48full use of both hands to slot the cards in easier.
45:51A well-thought-out tactic, and it looks like it's working.
45:54Every wrong image means a five-second penalty.
45:59The brainy with the slowest time will be eliminated from the dojo.
46:02But it looks like a full house for Lucky Charlie B.
46:10Next up is smart Alice.
46:12It was her idea to do a song in training, but I can't hear a peep out of her now.
46:16The dizziness has made her a little unsteady.
46:18Oh, watch out!
46:19Don't forget that this challenge decides which two brainy's will go through to the final
46:25round, the table of supreme focus.
46:28Alice has remained focused, and didn't let that card drop in distract her from collecting
46:32the others at super speed.
46:34Now for the order.
46:36Changing her mind about the apple there.
46:38Oops, the dizziness may have affected Alice's balance, but the order is spot on.
46:50The question is, will it be fast enough to secure her place in the final?
46:55Last up is Shanna.
46:56She seems pretty distracted by the dizziness already, and almost forgets to undo her belt.
47:02Shanna didn't really push herself in the training, and avoided having her memory tested.
47:06Will it affect her chances of making it to the final?
47:11She certainly seems distracted by the dizziness.
47:15There's the signature Shanna tongue.
47:36A lot of indecision at the end there, but has it cost her the brown brain belt?
47:42Time for the results.
47:46Charlie B, one minute, 13 seconds, and no penalties.
47:52Alice, one minute, 12 seconds, and no penalties.
47:55With just one second between Alice and Charlie B, it could not be closer.
48:01It all hangs on Shanna.
48:03One minute, 30, with 20 seconds of penalties, which means that Charlie B and Alice are in.
48:09And with a total of one minute, 50 seconds, Shanna is out.
48:13Walk of eternal regret.
48:21I'm proud of myself because I've come this far, but I'm really disappointed, but I'm happy for the people who have actually gone on to the final.
48:27I think Alice would win the finals because she's a strong member of the group.
48:32So, with only one level to go, it leaves just lucky Charlie B and smart Alice to wear their brown brain belts in preparation for the final.
48:41I can't explain. It's just this happiness. I love this happiness.
48:48I'm speechless. I just... my predictions are wrong.
48:54Brain Titter!
48:55Eight young hopeful arrived at Brain Training Dojo to fight for Brain Jitsu Black Brain Belt.
49:04As challenge got tougher, brain ease gets fewer.
49:08Some too slow.
49:10Others lost focus under pressure.
49:13One by one, they have been eliminated until just two remain.
49:17Smart Alice and lucky Charlie B.
49:19Only one second between them in last round.
49:22Competition tighter than two sumo wrestlers in single bed.
49:26But who will use Brain Training to max to win final challenge?
49:32Level 7. Black Belt!
49:35So, this is it.
49:38Between my two remaining brain ease and the black belt stands Brain Jitsu's ultimate challenge.
49:44A mental duel that is head to head in every sense.
49:48The battlefield, a table, but not just any table.
49:53For this, my friends, is the table of supreme focus.
49:57Where our two brain ease will attempt to move a ball across the table using only the power of their mind.
50:05By getting this far, they've already demonstrated mental control under many different types of pressure.
50:11But now, they must learn to focus their minds by entering a state of total calm.
50:16To prepare them, my two finalists will need to get into the zone.
50:22Room of mental nourishment.
50:26We welcome lucky Charlie B and smart Alice, our two brown brain belt holders, to the final room of mental nourishment.
50:33For this task, our brain ease must bring together all their training to achieve ultimate focus.
50:40Brain training.
50:41Mentally prepare yourself for the final task.
50:43Don't let the sounds put you off.
50:45So, our two finalists have to block out the noises and focus only on finding an inner calm and concentration.
50:56Both brain ease are doing well, but let's see if the training tip can help them further.
51:01Repeat three positive statements to yourself.
51:04Just calm ourselves.
51:05I will be calm and I shall get through this final.
51:11I'm in the finals.
51:12It's just in the final.
51:14I'm in the finals.
51:16I'm grateful.
51:17I'm strong.
51:18I'm mentally well.
51:20I'm in the finals.
51:22I'm so clever.
51:23I can do it.
51:24These positive statements, they make me a bit more confident and I don't let myself get distracted.
51:30I just feel the same because I was already really focused and ready.
51:34Nothing can stop me now.
51:36So, the competition is tighter than a kimono.
51:39Both brainies have been strong throughout their time in the dojo.
51:42But will Smart Alice find herself outsmarted?
51:46Or has Charlie B's luck finally run out?
51:49Let's find out.
51:50A table of supreme focus.
51:53Rules are simple.
51:57Each brainy must push ball to the opponent's end of table using only power of mind.
52:03Sensors in brainy's headbands measure brainwaves.
52:06This is converted into electrical signal which moves ball.
52:11More focused mind, stronger signal and faster ball will travel.
52:16See how brainy's are doing on this readout.
52:19Two lines represent each player's brainwaves.
52:22Lower the line, more concentrated than mine.
52:41To make sure this is the test of all tests, our brainies must win the best of three rounds.
52:46So, this is the big one.
52:50Our two finalists must use all their brain training to enter their zone of absolute focus if they are to succeed.
52:56This is the reason they came to the dojo.
52:58This is the moment they've been training for.
53:01Charlie B's the first to move the ball, but Alice is putting up an excellent fight.
53:15Both lines on the readout are almost equal, and that ball is by no means moving fast.
53:20In fact, Alice has stopped the ball in its tracks.
53:27The tables have turned again and again.
53:31Oh, this is the closest battle of the brains I've seen.
53:34It's stopped once again, but Charlie B has regained his focus.
53:44His green brain wave line is lower than Alice's black, and he's successfully pushing the ball towards her end with just the power of his mind.
53:52So, it's round one to look at Charlie B.
53:59Although look doesn't come into play on the table of supreme focus, it's all about mental agility.
54:04Can smart Alice even the score?
54:10It's a flying start for Charlie B.
54:12With his green line straight and low, he's looking unstoppable.
54:18Alice's high black wiggly line looks like she's lost it.
54:22That's it. It's all over.
54:25Charlie B has come up trumps.
54:29He used his training to the max to prove himself a true master of the mind and worthy winner of the black belt of brain jitsu.
54:38I think I've come first rather than second because I've been preparing it for a while.
54:43I can't explain it. I'm just so happy.
54:45I really didn't think I'd do it.
54:47Glory for one brings disappointment for another.
54:53She fought valiantly, but now Alice must leave the dojo.
54:56Walk of eternal regret.
55:03Sometimes I can't even focus because that's not exactly my character.
55:07So, when I got to that, I was a bit...
55:09Well, I didn't think I'd get it.
55:10But still, I got in for the finals. That's brilliant.
55:15I'm awesome people doing it.
55:17So, I'm proud of myself and I'm happy for Charlie.
55:19So, smart Alice was finally outsmarted.
55:26The competition was almost neck and neck all the way through, culminating in a real battle of the brains on the table of supreme focus.
55:34But in the end, Charlie B used his brain training to the max to find that extra focus for the final mind sprint, surpass Alice and grab the coveted black brain belt of brain jitsu.
55:46Our journey has come to an end.
55:49Another brainy has proven themselves worthy to wear the brain jitsu black belt.
55:55But while brain jitsu might represent the most extreme form of brain training, its philosophy can be shared by all.
56:04Each and every one of you has it in your power to grow your mind.
56:08All it takes is dedication and practice.
56:11This has been...
56:14...Rainjitsu!
56:17...Rainjitsu!
