00:00...in the making of this program, and that none of the training you're about to see be attempted unless under expert supervision.
00:07Eight braineers, one challenge. To use complex mass of 100 billion cells, we call the Brain, for chance to win Renjutsu Black Brain Belt.
00:17This is...
00:18...Renjutsu!
00:20Born in Lancashire, trained in Japan, with mind as sharp as Samurai's sword, he is Brain Master, he is the Sensei!
00:35Konnichiwa, and welcome to...
00:38...Renjutsu!
00:40Mental training, specially designed to boost brain power and focus.
00:45My trainees, or brainies, have been following a basic program of training in the comfort of their own home.
00:52A brain-boosting routine of exercise, sleep, and enough fruit and veg to stock a greengrocer's.
01:00I've been training for the past couple of days.
01:02My brain's really improved in terms of concentration.
01:05The last few days I've been training hard, I feel much more focused because my brain's been practising a lot, and I'm ready to beat all of the others a lot.
01:12Now my brainies must put their training into practice. By testing a part of their brain we use every day.
01:19Level one!
01:21No, no, Walt!
01:23Take a look at my very cluttered garage. Now, try to find a little rubber duck.
01:29Spotted, eh?
01:30Congratulations! You've just used your occipital lobes.
01:34This area, the seeing part of our brain, allows us to recognise and separate images from each other.
01:42The seven brainies, who use their occipital lobes the best, will be allowed to enter my brain jitsu dojo, where their training will continue.
01:50The one who fails will be left outside.
01:53Oh! Feel the burn.
01:56Enter the dojo!
01:58Brainy's must first answer four questions by counting different faces on the board in front of them.
02:05Get the questions right, and they'll be left with a four-digit code, which they must then use to unlock a piece of brain and secure their place in the dojo.
02:14But with only seven pieces of brain and eight brainy's, one of either Sarah, Jack, Patrick, Freddy, Alice, Luca, Menat, or Sarah, will be left outside and eliminated.
02:29Ooh, you can put the tension in the noodle bar with a very sharp chopstick, as the four questions are revealed.
02:35How many green faces are there?
02:37How many black smiley faces are there?
02:52How many faces have two ears?
03:04How many red faces have one ear?
03:07The answer our brainy's are looking for is eight, seven, seven, one.
03:15The order in which they unlock their piece of brain will decide the order they take part in the next levels of the dojo.
03:22The brainy who does not complete this challenge will be eliminated.
03:28Jack is first up with Patrick, Sarah, and Freddy close behind him, but have they got the right code?
03:34Soon, there's one brainy to each piece of brain, but Sarah is left out in the cold.
03:39Unbelievable, Sarah has got the code wrong, leaving a gap wide open for Sarah.
03:51Leaping salmon sashimi, in a sudden twist, it seems all of our brainy's have got the code wrong.
04:00The key to success is to remain calm and not get distracted.
04:04Use those occipital lobes and focus.
04:06Don't forget the code our brainy's are looking for is eight, seven, seven, one, as there are eight green faces, seven black smiley faces, seven faces with two ears, and one red face with one ear.
04:18So, Patrick's cracked it first, with cheeky grin Freddy finishing a close second.
04:29Four more brainy's follow suit, leaving Sarah and Minat to battle it out for the final place in the dojo.
04:38Minat is staying calm under pressure.
04:40She's got the right combination of eight, seven, seven, one.
04:43Now she just needs to try it out.
04:44She sees her opportunity, and that's it.
04:50Minat is in, and Sarah's out.
04:54So, as seven enter the dojo, for a chance to survive six more gruelling levels of brain training,
05:00for Sarah, the dream of the black brain belt has ended before it even started.
05:10I did my training at home, but I guess the pressure got to me.
05:15And I guess I didn't, like, really count properly.
05:18I, maybe I could have done a bit more training.
05:20So, with six levels to go, only Patrick, Freddy, Luca, Jack, Sarah, Alice, and Minat have entered the dojo,
05:28and achieved the first of their coloured brain belts.
05:31The toughest competition here is Patrick.
05:34Everything, he's on it, he's on it, he's on it.
05:37I don't know, I'm just really scared now.
05:40The annoying thing is, though, because I finished it first, I have to do every single challenge first.
05:44I did get it right, because I've revised a lot, but I just keep on panicking and everything.
05:51In this next level of training, things are going to get really hard.
05:57We do things every day without even thinking about it, like using the remote control for the telly.
06:08But try turning up the volume with the hand that you don't normally use.
06:13Go on, a lot more harder, isn't it?
06:14If you manage to do that, you're using part of your brain that deals with problem solving, the frontal lobes.
06:22And that's what level two is all about.
06:25Taking something you normally do without thinking, and doing it differently.
06:30Work it!
06:31To prepare them for using their frontal lobes in the next challenge, my brainees are going to need some training.
06:37Room of Mental Nourishment
06:39The Room of Mental Nourishment is where our young hopefuls will train their brains to help them progress to the next levels of the dojo.
06:47The more serious our brainees take the training, the better prepared they will be for the challenges that lie ahead.
06:53And in level two, that challenge is all about getting their brains to think in a new way.
06:59Brain training.
07:00Write the name of the braineer you think will win the black belt.
07:04Write backwards using the hand you don't normally write with.
07:08Great.
07:09Yeah, okay.
07:10I think that means you have to write their name backwards.
07:13So if it was me, it would be E-I-D-D-E-R-F.
07:17Are you trying to persuade the group that you're going to be the winner, Freddie?
07:23So, our brainees are writing backwards with the wrong hand.
07:26This will help them to think in a new way by getting them to use their frontal lobes.
07:31Is anyone ready to meet?
07:33I'm writing Mindat because I think she's very focused.
07:37For those who are struggling, here's a training tip.
07:44Picture the words in front of you.
07:48Before you write it, think about each individual letter.
07:51Oh, I see the tip.
07:54Oh, that's not how you do an F.
07:56It's in my language.
07:58F.
07:58I'm going to write it, Freddie, because I'm the best.
08:01Luke's like Freddie isn't concentrating on writing backwards, but is still trying to persuade Luca to think of him as the winner.
08:07Oh, right, yeah.
08:10In fact, he's now having a nap.
08:12I'm sleeping.
08:14Guys, how many people have written me?
08:16Me.
08:17What?
08:18I've written me.
08:19I've probably written you because you're very confident, because everyone probably assumes that the person who's most confident is going to win.
08:27If you want to work your frontal lobes at home by writing backwards, just like Jack is right now, it will help improve your all-round focus.
08:38Will Minat be the challenge winner and prove Jack right?
08:41Will confident Patrick sail through?
08:44And will Cheeky Freddy's nap have cost him the orange brain belt?
08:47There's only one way to find out. It's time for our brainies to really put their train into the test.
08:54Guardian of the Dojo and task adjudicator the Sheehan will now demonstrate the level 2 challenge.
09:00Spell backwards. Step forwards.
09:04To stand chance of gaining orange belt, seven brainies must now think in reverse.
09:09Sheehan will show them picture.
09:11They have to say what is. That is cut.
09:14Then, they spell word backwards.
09:17T-A-C.
09:20Get right and our brainies can step forward.
09:23Get wrong and they stay put.
09:26Brainies can choose length of word they want to spell backwards.
09:29Longer word, more time they get to answer.
09:32Three seconds for three-letter word.
09:34Up to six seconds for six letters.
09:37More letters, more steps towards destination.
09:40There is slight advantage to going first in challenge,
09:43but order brainies take part is order they complete at level one.
09:48Whoever not finished will be eliminated from the Dojo.
09:51My brainy tip here is to imagine the whole word
09:55and then break it down into groups of letters.
09:58Ho! Ho!
09:59Work those frontal lobes.
10:01K-R-O-F.
10:13Confident Patrick remains just that as he gets his first answer correct.
10:17Four.
10:18Book.
10:19K-O-O-B.
10:21Maybe Cheeky Freddy's little sleep helped him focus.
10:24Four.
10:26Bone.
10:27E-N-O-B.
10:28Luka sails through.
10:32Five.
10:33Jack's the first to really challenge his frontal lobes and attempt five letters.
10:37Horse.
10:38E-S-R-O-H.
10:41His brain training has really paid off there.
10:43Five steps towards the finishing line.
10:45Now for the girls.
10:46Four.
10:49Dice.
10:49E-C-I-D.
10:51Sarah does nice with dice.
10:54Five.
10:56Knife.
10:57E-F-I-N-K.
11:01A cool five steps for Alice.
11:03She's as sharp as a knife, that one.
11:05Four.
11:07Bear.
11:08R-A-E-B.
11:12And Minat means a full complement of correct answers for the first round.
11:16Now back to Patrick.
11:17Four.
11:18Dot.
11:22T-R-A-D.
11:26Close one, Patrick.
11:27Nearly out of time.
11:29Four.
11:31Star.
11:33R-T-A-R.
11:37Oh, Cheeky Freddy is the first to get one wrong.
11:39Perhaps he should have taken the training more seriously.
11:41As the challenge progresses, Jack, Alice and Minat also get their words wrong, leaving
11:47confident Patrick in a strong position to take first place and be the first to win his
11:51orange brain belt.
11:52Four.
11:55Nose.
11:56E-S-O-N.
11:57A whole run of correct answers means Luca's second to reach the podium, with Sarah coming
12:03third.
12:04And amazingly, Cheeky Freddy takes fourth place.
12:06That just leaves Jack, Alice and Minat to battle it out for the last two orange brain
12:11belts.
12:12Three.
12:15Dog.
12:16G-O-D.
12:23Three.
12:23Cat.
12:26T-A-C.
12:31So, this task has proven too much of a brain drain for Minat, and her journey to cerebral
12:36superiority has come to an end.
12:40She must relinquish her yellow brain belt and tread the lonely path of the...
12:45Walk of Eternal Regret.
12:49I'm happy that I got through the first round, but disappointed that I didn't get through the
12:52second round.
12:52What I'd do to improve my performance would be to focus more and take it more seriously.
13:02I think Sarah might win, because she's very focused and he's quite good at a lot of things.
13:10So, with five levels to go, only Patrick, Freddy, Luca, Jack, Sarah and Alice have gained
13:16their orange brain belts.
13:17Best person was Luca, because he coped with the pressure.
13:21You think it's really easy, but until you actually do it, you don't actually understand
13:26how difficult it is.
13:27If I get out now, it'll be really embarrassing, because I've been doing quite well.
13:32And then to get out on a round for an easy mistake will be horrible.
13:40Brainy2.
13:42Brainy, not so brainy.
13:44Who's the clever clogs and whose brain needs a lot more training?
13:49First up, astronauts.
13:51This exclusive group is made up of some of the brightest bods on Earth.
13:55In 1969, astronaut Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon, uttering the immortal words,
14:01one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.
14:04I wonder if that was off the top of his head.
14:06Here's another group.
14:07Now, not McFly.
14:09Oi, get your hair cut.
14:10These lot, the Sahara Marathon Runners.
14:13These balmy boys and babes think nothing of legging it 4,500 miles across the Sahara Desert
14:19in temperatures well over 100 degrees.
14:22Phew!
14:23And it takes these jokers 100 days to reach the finish line.
14:26If they ever get there, I'm tired just thinking about it.
14:30Brainy astronauts.
14:31Not so brainy.
14:32Sahara runners.
14:33Brain Jitsu.
14:40Pressure in Brain Jitsu Dojo rising.
14:43Now just six young hopefuls remain to compete under watchful eye of Sheehan.
14:48Confident Patrick, who has won both tasks.
14:52Cheeky Freddy.
14:53The next person I think to go will be one of the girls.
14:58Quiet Alice, who could be Dark Horse in Dojo.
15:01Sarah.
15:02Me and Alice have got a tactic in just to knock the boys out.
15:07Jack, who is placed well in both rounds.
15:10And Luca.
15:11No offense, but I think Alice is going to go.
15:13Challenge is about to get even tougher.
15:16Only two brainy's will make final test.
15:18Table of Supreme Forecasts, where they must move ball with power of mind.
15:23For chance to win, Brain Jitsu Black Brain Belt.
15:26It's time for...
15:28Level 3.
15:29Greenbelt!
15:30Now, we all like to chat.
15:33But did you know that using words to communicate is one of the main reasons why our brains have grown so incredibly powerful?
15:40And having a conversation exercises both halves of the brain.
15:45Now, if all that's doing your head in, allow me to explain.
15:50Imagine you're the trumpet player in an orchestra.
15:54Your main focus is on your own notes.
15:57But the conductor, well, he has to listen for everyone's notes.
16:02It's the same with the brain.
16:04There's the left half, which deals with the details.
16:06And there's the right half, which looks at the overall picture.
16:09This next level of training strengthens my brainy's focus by working one half of their brain under pressure.
16:18Hey, pump it up!
16:20Room of Mental Nourishment.
16:24Brain!
16:24It's our second visit to the brain training room of mental nourishment.
16:30Brain E's have a choice as to whether or not they take part.
16:34But any extra training they do will help them with the next challenge.
16:37For level 3, it's communication.
16:40Get into two groups.
16:41One group describes the picture in front of them.
16:44The other group draws it.
16:46So, our brainies are in two groups.
16:48One group should use the right side of their brains to describe clearly how to draw the picture.
16:52The other team should use the left side of their brains to concentrate on interpreting those instructions to draw the same picture.
16:58Then do a dot on A3.
17:01And then draw another dot on...
17:03To the right of three.
17:04Yeah.
17:04And one between three and four and one between two and three.
17:07Yeah, and...
17:08It's not going very well so far, is it?
17:09The key is to work together as a team, communicate clearly, talk one at a time, and listen to each other.
17:15You see where one joins two?
17:17Yeah.
17:18And you see where C joins D?
17:20Now, draw a dot on the top line of each.
17:23No, just draw a squiggle coming.
17:24OK, guys, do you speak one at a time?
17:27Yeah, well, you try explaining it then.
17:30For the sake of peace and harmony, it's time for a training tip.
17:34Use short, clear instructions.
17:36Imagine yourself hearing them.
17:39OK.
17:39OK, guys, I think we should speak one at a time.
17:42Basically, what you should have at the moment, a big oval shape.
17:45Yeah.
17:46Yeah.
17:46An oval shape in the middle.
17:48Yeah.
17:48And then in the middle of that oval shape, a circle.
17:51Yeah.
17:51In the middle of the circle, two dots.
17:53Yeah.
17:54Right.
17:54See those four squares?
17:56Four squares.
17:57So where they join?
17:58No.
17:58No, in the...
17:59Or in the middle?
18:00OK, it's like, yeah, in the middle.
18:01Jack really takes the communication tip on board, and Cheeky Freddy is taking this training a
18:06lot more seriously.
18:07OK, draw up from the top, yeah?
18:10Yeah.
18:10Yeah.
18:10Yeah.
18:10Over, in like a loop, crossing around, and up like a six, yeah?
18:16Between three and four.
18:17Confident Patrick hasn't really taken part.
18:19This communication exercise is designed to help her brainies do well in the next challenge,
18:24but he seems to be opting out.
18:25So Jack and Freddy really outshone the others.
18:36Will their hard work pay off?
18:38Will Patrick's silence be his downfall?
18:41Time to find out, as our six now put their communication train into the test to compete
18:46for their green brain belt.
18:50Lantern whack number crack!
18:52This level tests how well our brainies can communicate.
18:57So, our six need to be in teams of two.
19:00The chopsticks will decide the pairs.
19:04So, there's Sarah and Jack, who both did well in the training.
19:07Alice and Luca, and Freddy and Patrick.
19:10Those two are obviously buddies, but will they work well as a team?
19:15Six lanterns per team, containing numbers and confetti.
19:18Pairs need to decide who is Guider, who is Waka.
19:23Waka is blindfolded and holds soft, spongy butt.
19:27Guider shouts out instructions to Waka.
19:30Waka has to hit lanterns to release numbers.
19:33Once all lanterns are smashed, Guider shouts,
19:36Prynjutsu!
19:37And team needs to collect only numbers.
19:40Pairs must arrange numbers to make correct sum and hit gong when happy with answer.
19:48Green brain belt will be reward for first two teams with correct answers.
19:52One of losing pair will face walk of eternal regret.
19:56The key to success here is for the Guider to use the right side of their brain
20:01to follow their team-mate's progress and give them clear instructions.
20:06For their partner, it's vital they use the left side of their brain
20:10to focus on these instructions and nothing else.
20:14Smash!
20:15Go!
20:15The gong sounds and suddenly everything goes crazier than underwater karaoke.
20:20Come on, come on!
20:21Come on, Patrick!
20:23Get out!
20:24Quick and I'll get to!
20:25Luca is hitting his lanterns faster than a bullet train.
20:28Quick and I'll get to!
20:30Here are the numbers our brainies are looking for.
20:33See if you can work out the sum.
20:34Come on, come on, come on!
20:36Come on, come on, come on!
20:38Come on, Patrick!
20:39Cheeky Freddy seems to have forgotten all his training.
20:43Shouting isn't a good way of communicating
20:46and Patrick has no idea which way to whack.
20:49Wake up, wake up!
20:50Let's stop!
20:50No, no, no!
20:52Move this, move this!
20:54Quick, quick!
20:56Sarah and Jack both communicated well in the training
21:00and it shows because they've already finished their sum.
21:03I'll see you, 10, 20, go!
21:05Still trailing behind is Patrick and Freddy.
21:08They can't find all their numbers
21:10and the frustration is maddening.
21:12OK, I think I'll grab it to drop them.
21:15Here we go, Sal.
21:16And then I'll add eight.
21:19OK, wait, wait, wait.
21:21Two times six plus eight equals 20.
21:23Luca and Alice have gonged
21:25to show they're happy with their answer
21:26and it looks good to me.
21:28Patrick and Freddy finally get their missing number
21:31and work out the sum in seconds
21:32but it looks like it's too late.
21:35Yes!
21:36The other two teams have got theirs correct
21:39and in a faster time
21:40which means that Patrick and Freddy are the losers
21:42and we'll now go face to face in the...
21:46Stay off!
21:51Both braineers must use their training
21:53to focus on fighting the urge to blink.
21:56There's only one green belt up for grabs
21:58so who'll blink first and be eliminated?
22:08It's a shocking result.
22:10Confident Patrick has lost.
22:12His fellow braineers thought he was favourite to win
22:14but he was the first to blink
22:16and now he's out
22:17and faces the lonely...
22:19Woke of eternal regret.
22:22I feel really disappointed about getting out of it
22:26because I thought I was doing quite well.
22:30The real thing that went wrong
22:31was our communication
22:33and also the fact that...
22:36well...
22:37we couldn't find our numbers.
22:38So with four levels left
22:42it's green brain belts
22:44for Freddy, Luca, Jack, Sarah and Alice.
22:47I'm quite scared now
22:48because I've been in the bottom two
22:50and I had to stare off Patrick
22:52which is quite hard
22:53because he's much taller than me.
22:54After the first round
22:55we realised how much the training was important
22:58so I think we paid a lot more attention
23:00during the training
23:01and I think that helped us a lot.
23:04Brain T2!
23:05Level 4
23:09We vote!
23:11This fourth level
23:12requires our braineers
23:14to master a primitive part of the brain
23:16called the amygdala
23:18the area that responds to threat.
23:21Ha ha!
23:22Oh, pfft!
23:25Remember the last time
23:26you felt afraid or panicky?
23:28Maybe it was on a dark night.
23:30Well, that feeling
23:31was triggered by the old amygdala.
23:33Stress can make you lose focus.
23:37Fact.
23:38Which is why my braineers
23:40must train to keep their emotions
23:42under control.
23:44Room of Mental Nourishment
23:46We're back in the Room of Mental Nourishment
23:50and it's time for our five remaining
23:52green belt holders
23:53to overcome fear
23:55and stay totally focused.
23:56OK guys, brain training
24:02Form a circle
24:04Pass the disgusting drink
24:06around the circle
24:07only passing it on
24:08when you've said
24:09a different word
24:10beginning with A
24:11After one minute
24:13the braineer holding the drink
24:15has to drink it.
24:16Ew.
24:17Oh my god.
24:18Does everybody get it?
24:18Yeah, but what's in that?
24:20Milk, blue cheese
24:21and just a dash of black pepper.
24:23Revolting or not
24:29it's time to play.
24:30Addictive
24:30Alphabet
24:32Apocalypse
24:34Arbok
24:34Animal
24:36Arch
24:37Applenesium
24:39Applenesium?
24:40That's not a word, Luca.
24:42Alligator
24:43Arsks
24:44Ars-nesium
24:47Ars-nesium?
24:49Luca's amygdala
24:50is working overtime
24:51and his fear of the drink
24:53is making it impossible
24:54for him to think
24:55of a real word.
24:57Gong.
24:58That gong
24:58means a minute's up
24:59and Freddie
25:00has to drink
25:00the cheesy drink
25:01which he does
25:02pretty fearlessly.
25:03Done.
25:04Brustling my sick player.
25:06Oh, you can taste
25:07the cheese.
25:09Training tip time.
25:11Don't fear the drink
25:12welcome it
25:13as your friend.
25:14Oh yeah.
25:15Hi, drink.
25:16If you imagine
25:17the drink as something
25:18nice like hot chocolate
25:19you'll stay calm.
25:21Fear in the drink
25:22will cloud your focus
25:23and you won't be able
25:24to come up with
25:24any words at all.
25:26Anti-distablishment areas.
25:28The training tip
25:29has worked for
25:30Quiet Alice
25:31a 28-letter word.
25:33Anything!
25:34Antarctica.
25:35Assuming.
25:36If you practice
25:37this technique at home
25:38it will allow you
25:39to keep your emotions
25:40under control
25:41stop you from panicking
25:42and help you focus better
25:43in situations like exams.
25:45That's another minute up
25:48but there seems to be
25:49a dispute over
25:50who's got to drink.
25:52I think he should
25:53drink it.
25:54Yes.
25:54You drink half of it
25:55you drink the other one.
25:57That's it.
25:57And then...
25:59When the thing
26:00came to me
26:01and I thought
26:01I let away
26:02vomit
26:03that's all I could
26:04think about.
26:05Can Alice
26:06bring this kind
26:07of focus
26:08to the next level?
26:09Will Fearless
26:10Freddy rise to the challenge?
26:12And will
26:12Luca's anxiety
26:13lead to elimination?
26:14Our five
26:16must now
26:17put their brain
26:17training to the test
26:18to overcome fear
26:20and compete
26:21for the blue brain belt.
26:23But wait
26:24in an unexpected twist
26:25Jack has come down
26:26with a cold
26:27and is forced
26:28to pull out.
26:29I was feeling
26:29really unwell
26:30all day
26:30and just couldn't
26:31continue.
26:32I was really gutted
26:33that I had to leave
26:33the dojo
26:34and I thought
26:34I was focusing well.
26:36Under brain jitsu
26:37rules
26:37if someone is unable
26:38to continue
26:39then their place
26:40can be taken
26:41by the last person
26:42to be eliminated.
26:43So that's Patrick.
26:44I think the next task
26:45I should really
26:48just really concentrate
26:49on what we have to do.
26:50Well they may have
26:51had a head start
26:51but there's no reason
26:52why I still couldn't
26:54be successful
26:54because I have done
26:56a lot of training
26:56by myself at home
26:57and I think
26:58I've been given
26:59a second chance
27:00and I should take it.
27:02So from this
27:03to this
27:03in the blink of an eye
27:05the thought of winning
27:06really has got Patrick
27:07excited
27:07as he re-enters
27:09the dojo
27:09to compete
27:10for the blue brain belt.
27:11Things really
27:12are getting interesting
27:13so let's get on
27:14with it.
27:17Creepy Crawly
27:18Word Grab
27:19This level
27:20real test of mind
27:22over matter
27:22for brainies
27:23and will push them
27:24to really overcome
27:25their fear.
27:26Underneath the creepy crawlies
27:27lie an assortment
27:28of letters
27:29worth different points.
27:31Brainies have just
27:32one minute
27:32to plunge hands
27:33into tank
27:34and pick out
27:35up to seven letters
27:36each.
27:37They then have
27:37a further minute
27:38to make higher scoring
27:40words they can.
27:43To do well
27:44my brainies
27:45must block out
27:46the signals
27:46coming from their
27:47amygdala
27:47and ignore
27:48the creepy crawlies.
27:50The quicker
27:50they combat
27:51their fear
27:52the more time
27:52they'll have
27:53to pick out
27:54the high scoring
27:55letters.
28:00Brainies
28:01should dig deep
28:02under the maggots
28:02and keep a keen eye
28:03out for the golden
28:04letters
28:05because if they find
28:06one and manage
28:07to use it
28:07in their word
28:08they'll double
28:09their score.
28:10Freddy really is
28:11looking fearless.
28:15Sarah's making
28:16yucky faces
28:17she must concentrate
28:18on finding letters.
28:22Remember your
28:22training Luca
28:23and focus
28:24don't be scared
28:25of the maggots
28:25or the gong.
28:29Quiet Alice
28:30looking calm
28:31as usual
28:31she's learnt well.
28:33Comeback kid
28:34Patrick is actually
28:35choosing which
28:36letters to pick
28:37he really has
28:38been training
28:38at home.
28:43The gong
28:43means that
28:44their minute
28:44is up
28:45and now
28:45our brainies
28:46are another
28:46minute to make
28:47the longest
28:48word they can
28:49out of the
28:49letters they
28:50have collected.
28:51Oh is that
28:52Z?
28:53Oh I'm going
28:54to lose this.
28:56Was Luca
28:56trying to spell
28:57brain jitsu?
28:58I think he's
28:58going to struggle
28:59to make anything
29:00without any vowels.
29:01And Sarah
29:02hasn't really
29:03left herself
29:04with many
29:04options either.
29:05See if you
29:06can make a word
29:07from the
29:07anagram
29:08on the
29:08screen now.
29:15So how
29:16have our
29:16green belt
29:17holders fared?
29:20Game.
29:22That's seven
29:23points for
29:23fearless
29:24Freddy.
29:25Buzz
29:26just was.
29:26Your
29:27made up
29:27words may
29:27have fooled
29:28him in
29:28the room
29:28of mental
29:29nourishment
29:29Luca but
29:30you can't
29:30fool the
29:31she-han.
29:31No points.
29:33Um.
29:34Will the
29:34she-han
29:35allow it?
29:35Nope.
29:36No points
29:37for you
29:37either Sarah.
29:41Dolce.
29:43Sounds
29:43good Alice.
29:44But sadly
29:45that's just
29:46not English.
29:46Now for
29:47the comeback
29:47kid Patrick.
29:49Jungle.
29:51Hold up.
29:52The
29:52she-han
29:52can smell
29:53something fishy
29:53and it's
29:54not sushi.
29:55Nice try
29:56Patrick but
29:56your N was
29:57really a U.
29:58No points.
29:59So that
30:00means Cheeky
30:00Freddy has
30:01won his
30:01blue belt
30:02but the
30:03other four
30:03have no
30:04score and
30:05we have a
30:05tie-break
30:05situation.
30:07Either Luca,
30:08Sarah,
30:08Alice or
30:09Patrick will
30:09be eliminated.
30:11It all
30:11hangs on
30:12the
30:13tie-break
30:14chopstick
30:15challenge.
30:17It's
30:18tough but
30:18fair.
30:19Our
30:19brainies have
30:20just five
30:20seconds to
30:21engage their
30:22occipital lobes,
30:23the seeing
30:23part of the
30:24brain.
30:24and quickly
30:25work out
30:26how many
30:26chopsticks
30:27they see.
30:29Time to reveal
30:30our brain
30:30ease answers.
30:3245 for
30:33Luca.
30:3475.
30:3650.
30:3852.
30:40The actual
30:41number is...
30:43So Luca's
30:46answer of
30:4745 was
30:48furthest from
30:48the correct
30:49number of
30:4981 chopsticks
30:50sticks, and
30:51he looks gutted
30:52because he
30:53must now
30:53leave the
30:53dojo for
30:54good.
31:02Walk of
31:03eternal
31:04regret.
31:0530.
31:06Well, I
31:07didn't really,
31:08I just
31:09didn't have a
31:09strategy during
31:10the maggot
31:11game.
31:12I just
31:12pulled out
31:13mindless letters
31:14so I had,
31:15you know,
31:15just, I can
31:16make a word.
31:17By the time I was
31:18through that
31:19chopstick thing,
31:20I knew I was
31:20out.
31:20To come this
31:21far and then
31:22to lose,
31:23it's just
31:23really annoying.
31:26That's all.
31:30So, with
31:31only three
31:32levels to go,
31:33Freddie,
31:33Sarah,
31:34Alice and
31:34Patrick proudly
31:35wear their
31:36blue brain
31:36belts.
31:38I think the
31:39training did
31:39help in the
31:40way that you
31:41had to pretend
31:42that the
31:43maggots weren't
31:43there, that
31:44they were your
31:44friend, they're
31:44not going to
31:45hurt you,
31:46because the
31:46fact is that
31:46they're not.
31:47It was, like,
31:48well, scary and
31:48disgusting, and
31:49they were, like,
31:50little, and
31:50I've been
31:51given this
31:52second chance
31:52and I should
31:53use it.
31:54I made blue.
31:55All I have to
31:56do now is
31:56red, brown,
31:58and black.
31:59Seems easy,
32:00but it's not.
32:03Brainy 2.
32:06Brainy,
32:06not so brainy.
32:10Who's the
32:11clever clogs
32:11and whose brain
32:12needs a lot
32:12more training?
32:14All the world's
32:15a stage, and
32:15all the men
32:16and women
32:16merely players.
32:17Just one of
32:18the many great
32:18lines that came
32:19from the
32:19February pen
32:20of Mr William
32:21Shakespeare.
32:22In total, he
32:23wrote nearly
32:2340 plays and
32:24154 poems
32:25called sonnets,
32:26and over 400
32:27years later,
32:28we're still
32:29reading them.
32:29Pretty impressive
32:30stuff, Will.
32:31Your poor hand
32:32must have really
32:32ached after all
32:33that writing,
32:34though.
32:34Ouch!
32:35About 100
32:35years later,
32:36another writer,
32:37a French
32:37teaser called
32:38Jean-Baptiste
32:39Vivienne de
32:40Chateaubrunne,
32:41spent 40 years
32:42perfecting just
32:42two measly
32:43plays.
32:44And if that
32:45weren't bad
32:45enough, just as
32:46he was on the
32:46point of finishing
32:47them off, his
32:48housekeeper only
32:49goes and mistakes
32:49the manuscripts
32:50for wrapping paper
32:51and puts the
32:52kibosh on his
32:53life's work.
32:54All gutted.
32:55Brainy Shakespeare,
32:57not so brainy
32:58Jean-Baptiste.
33:01Brain Jitsu
33:02Tension in Brain
33:06Jitsu Dojo is
33:07mounting, as now
33:09just four young
33:09hopefuls remain
33:10to compete on
33:11the watchful eye
33:12of Xi'an.
33:13Their journey has
33:14more twists than
33:15Japanese pretzel.
33:17Cheeky Freddy,
33:18confident after
33:18winning last
33:19challenge.
33:20Sarah, ranked
33:21first of girls
33:22four times in
33:22row.
33:23I'm like really,
33:24really close to
33:25winning the black
33:26belt, and it
33:26would be a shame
33:27to like sort of
33:28lose in these
33:29rounds.
33:30Quiet Alice,
33:31could be Dark
33:32Horse in this
33:32mind race.
33:34And come back
33:35Kid Patrick,
33:36who made
33:36dramatic exit
33:37after losing
33:38Stare Off with
33:38Freddy, only to
33:40return at next
33:41level when Jack
33:42fall ill.
33:42I think I'm
33:43definitely back to
33:43win it.
33:44Only two
33:45brainy's will
33:46make it to
33:46final test, the
33:47table of supreme
33:48focus, where they
33:49must move ball
33:50with power of
33:51mind.
33:52The Brain Jitsu
33:53Black Brain
33:54Belt is within
33:54their grasp, as
33:56it's time for...
33:57Level 5, Red
33:59Belt!
33:59Now, if you
34:03were just taking
34:03up competitive
34:04bog snorkelling,
34:05then you might
34:06be interested to
34:07know that your
34:07new hobby is
34:08doing wonders for
34:09the old grey
34:10matter, exercising
34:11both the thinking
34:12part of the brain,
34:14the cerebrum, and
34:15the doing part, the
34:16cerebellum.
34:18You see, doing new
34:19things increases the
34:20flow of blood into
34:21your head, which
34:22keeps your brain
34:23cells topped up
34:24with the oxygen they
34:25need to perform at
34:27their best.
34:27So, in Level
34:285, my brainy's are
34:30going to be
34:31challenged to learn
34:32new skills.
34:33Now, you can speed
34:34up how quickly the
34:36brain takes in new
34:37stuff, and this is
34:38what our brainy's are
34:39going to train for
34:40now.
34:42Room of Mental
34:43Nourishment
34:44It's our brainy's
34:47fourth visit to the
34:48Room of Mental
34:48Nourishment, and for
34:49this brain training
34:50exercise, they're going
34:51to be really working
34:52their brains by
34:53learning something
34:54new.
34:54Brain training.
34:58Spin the drumstick
34:59between your fingers
35:00for as long as
35:00possible.
35:02Remember?
35:02Get out of there,
35:03it's good.
35:03Well, okay.
35:05This is one hand,
35:06doesn't it?
35:07Does it say one
35:07hand?
35:08No, probably.
35:08I'm just doing it
35:09between my fingers,
35:10because it says
35:10in between your fingers,
35:11not between your hands.
35:13Two hands would be
35:14too easy, Freddie.
35:15This exercise needs
35:16to be taxing, so the
35:17thinking part of your
35:18brain and the doing
35:19part of your brain
35:20are equally poached.
35:21All you have to do
35:22is like sort of
35:22control it.
35:23Guys, just look at me,
35:24just all you have to do
35:25is put your index finger
35:26over your ring finger
35:29and just keep doing
35:29that.
35:30Take a look at that
35:31and do that.
35:32You kind of have it
35:33between your index finger
35:34and your third finger
35:35and then you kind of
35:36just spin it between
35:36your index finger
35:37and your ring finger.
35:38Can't you just like
35:39sort of put it through
35:39your fingers and like
35:40change every time
35:41you want to change
35:42it and stuff?
35:43Can you just do this?
35:44Just put it right.
35:45So, come on,
35:46watch, watch.
35:47Watch.
35:49Training tip time.
35:50Listen, guys,
35:52be confident in yourself.
35:54Look in the mirror
35:54and tell yourself
35:55you can do it.
35:57I can do it.
35:58You don't look
35:59in the mirror.
36:00Nice smash.
36:01Very funny.
36:02Cheeky, Fred, eh?
36:04I can do it.
36:04I can do it.
36:05I can do it.
36:05I can do it.
36:06I'm the best.
36:07I'm amazing.
36:08I know.
36:08I can do it.
36:09I know.
36:09Oh, yeah,
36:10you really reckon
36:11you're the best.
36:11I can do it.
36:12Come on, man.
36:14You're great.
36:15You're better than
36:15Freddie.
36:16I think I'm...
36:17Yeah.
36:17Both boys seem
36:20very self-assured already,
36:21but boosting your confidence
36:23really can help
36:24if you're learning
36:24something new.
36:25Stay positive
36:26and you're much more likely
36:28to succeed
36:29at your new skill.
36:31I am the best.
36:32I love me.
36:33I rule.
36:35So,
36:35will Freddie and Patrick's
36:36boyish confidence
36:37help them at the next level?
36:39Alice and Sarah
36:39don't seem to have
36:40the same natural
36:41self-assurance.
36:43Will this lead
36:43to their elimination?
36:44Only time will tell
36:46as our four
36:47must now put their train
36:49into the test
36:49to learn a new skill
36:51for their red brain belt.
36:55Chop, chop,
36:56don't drop.
36:58To win red brain belt,
37:00brainies must remain
37:01mentally confident
37:02as they learn
37:03new physical skill.
37:05Remaining four
37:06must keep ball
37:06in airflow
37:07and guide it
37:08along obstacle course,
37:10through hoops
37:11and into basket.
37:12It is race against clock
37:14but brainies
37:15must remain confident.
37:16There is five second penalty
37:18every time ball drops.
37:20Brainy with slowest time
37:21will be eliminated.
37:23The tip for my brainies
37:25in this next task
37:26is to
37:26remain calm
37:28and think positive thoughts.
37:31Giving in to frustration
37:32will only lessen their focus
37:33and slow them up.
37:36The atmosphere in the dojo
37:38is hotter than wasabi
37:39as all four brainies
37:41get off to a shaky start.
37:42They must achieve
37:43mental focus
37:44to master
37:44this new physical skill.
37:48Freddy is as cheeky
37:49as the rear end
37:49of a sumo wrestler
37:50but can his confidence
37:52sustain the pressure?
38:04It's a strong finish
38:05for Freddy
38:06but is it enough
38:07to get the red?
38:11Patrick's ego
38:12took a bigger battering
38:13than tempura vegetables
38:14when he was knocked out
38:15at level three.
38:17Has the training
38:17given him his confidence back?
38:28Trouble with the bar
38:29in the middle there
38:30but excellent basket work
38:31at the end.
38:33Both girls
38:34didn't seem
38:35as mentally positive
38:36as the boys
38:36in their training.
38:37Will it affect
38:38their physical performances?
38:42Sarah's mind
38:43must stay confident
38:43and focused
38:44or she won't be able
38:45to control her body
38:46and her dream
38:47of the black belt
38:48will fold like origami.
39:00Oh, a disastrous ending.
39:01Will Alice fare better?
39:02Alice isn't as naturally confident
39:06as the others
39:07and it seems to be getting her
39:08in trouble here.
39:23So bad ending for both girls
39:25but who'll be eliminated?
39:26Time for the results.
39:27Freddie finished in 47 seconds
39:34but he had nine penalties
39:35which means his total
39:36is one minute 32 seconds.
39:40Sarah's time was one minute 39 seconds
39:42with 19 penalties
39:43so a total of three minutes 14 seconds.
39:47Alice finished in 58 seconds
39:49with 15 penalties
39:50giving a total time
39:51of two minutes 13 seconds.
39:53It all hangs on Patrick.
39:55He completed the course
39:56in one minute 3 seconds
39:58and with 16 penalties
40:00his total is
40:01two minutes 23 seconds.
40:04So that's two wins
40:05in a row for Freddie.
40:06He's looking unstoppable
40:08but for Sarah
40:09it's sayonara.
40:16Walk of eternal regret.
40:20I'm a bit sad
40:21but I'm also glad
40:22that I got to like
40:24two rounds before
40:25I'd win the black belt
40:26and I'm really like
40:27proud of my achievement.
40:29I think Freddie
40:29has a good chance of winning.
40:31He's sort of like
40:32pulled himself
40:32through all the rounds
40:33and I think he might win.
40:41So with only two levels left
40:43Freddie, Alice and Patrick
40:45stand proud in red.
40:46I think the people
40:47on the table of Supreme Focus
40:49will probably be
40:50Freddie
40:51and maybe me.
40:53I have no idea
40:54what's going to happen next
40:55but I'm just so nervous.
40:58I think I could go all the way.
40:59It's this level
41:11which will decide
41:12which two
41:13of my remaining braineys
41:15will go on
41:16to battle it out
41:17for the black belt.
41:20Now, imagine
41:21you're in your school play.
41:23As well as lines to remember
41:24and moving around on stage
41:26there's also the audience
41:28watching you.
41:28It's remembering stuff
41:30under pressure like this
41:31that level 6
41:33is all about.
41:35It centres
41:36around three areas
41:37of the brain.
41:38The seeing part
41:39the occipital lobes
41:41the memory part
41:42the temporal lobes
41:44and the movement part
41:46the cerebellum.
41:48To the max!
41:50Room of mental nourishment.
41:53With only three braineys remaining
41:56this penultimate brain training challenge
41:58is all about
41:59improving your memory.
42:00Sorry, what was I saying?
42:03Brain training.
42:04Memorise the sequence
42:06of objects.
42:07Okay.
42:07Each do a table.
42:08Each do a table.
42:09I'll do this.
42:10Remember it as a story
42:11for instance.
42:12So like
42:12the frog got crushed
42:13by a hammer
42:14and so they flushed it down the loo.
42:16The gnomate the jelly beans
42:18whilst combing him
42:19and drink...
42:20So in this task
42:20our three remaining
42:21red belt holders
42:22are exercising
42:23their occipital lobes
42:25or seeing part
42:26of their brain
42:26and their temporal lobes
42:28the memory bank.
42:30The gong means
42:31mix the objects up
42:32and when they're good and mixed
42:33our braineys
42:34have to pick out
42:35the random objects
42:36they have memorised.
42:38Take your own guys.
42:41Pass it to water glass please.
42:43Are you too confident
42:51you've got it right?
42:52Definitely.
42:53They've done pretty well
42:54but here's a training tip.
42:56Create a story
42:56linking the objects together.
42:59That's a bit like
42:59what we did.
43:00Yeah, pretty much.
43:01Alice second guessed
43:02the tip at the start
43:03of the training
43:03so she has an idea
43:05to make it harder this time.
43:07Okay, how about
43:07this time we jumble them up
43:09put them in a different order
43:10and let's say we have
43:1215 seconds
43:13to make up a story
43:15and link all our stories
43:16together this time.
43:18Cool, let's go.
43:22There's a picture
43:23of a rat wearing sunglasses
43:24and the frog wanted to smash it
43:27because he didn't like the rat.
43:28The gnome decided
43:29to poison the chicken.
43:31Yeah, the chicken came out
43:32and was flushed down the loo
43:34and was recycled into banana
43:36which was stuck
43:37on the top of the Eiffel Tower
43:38and eaten by a snake.
43:39And eaten by a snake.
43:41Okay, turn around.
43:41Jump on the rock.
43:43Memory tests like this
43:44are a great way
43:44to train your brain.
43:46Next time you go shopping
43:47make a story out of your list
43:49and see if you can remember
43:50everything on it.
43:51The rat had his glasses
43:52and he was in the picture.
43:54Something happened
43:56with the chickens
43:56which were stuck
43:57on the Eiffel Tower
43:58which the snake ate.
43:59Alice really shone in the training
44:03but will she apply it
44:04to the task ahead
44:05or will Patrick and Freddy
44:06use Alice's tip to triumph?
44:09Our final three must now
44:11put their memory train
44:12into the test
44:12to win their brown brain belt
44:14and secure their place
44:16on the table of supreme focus.
44:18Super Memory Dizzy Dash
44:22Each brainie is spun round
44:25on Dizzy Wheel
44:26a total of ten times.
44:28Their task
44:29to use all their power of focus
44:31to memorize five images
44:33in front of them.
44:35Then race against clock
44:36to cross balancing beam
44:38and collect same five images
44:40from ten hanging above them.
44:43Then must arrange images
44:46in reverse order.
44:49When they are happy
44:50with their selection
44:51a hit of gong
44:52stops clock.
44:57My tip for the brainies
44:59is to keep focused
45:00on the main objective
45:01and use their training
45:03to link the five images together.
45:07So our final three
45:09braved the wheel
45:10to compete for their
45:11brown brain belt
45:12and for a chance to triumph
45:13over the table of supreme focus.
45:15Time to spin.
45:18Will their memory training
45:19help our brainies
45:20ignore the effects
45:21of the wheel
45:22and memorize the images?
45:23The order they are looking for
45:25is at the bottom of the screen.
45:27Cheeky Freddy is repeating
45:29the pictures out loud
45:30to help him remember them.
45:31Will this tactic
45:32help him make it
45:33three wins in a row?
45:38This is the ultimate test
45:39of distraction
45:40for our brainies.
45:41Not only are they
45:42under pressure
45:43as they race against the clock
45:44but they have to fight
45:45the dizziness
45:46to collect only
45:47the five images
45:48they saw from the ten
45:49hanging above them.
45:50Then they have to
45:51arrange those images
45:52in reverse order.
45:54Every image they get wrong
45:55means a five second penalty.
45:57The brainy
45:58with the slowest time
45:59will be eliminated
46:00and get it from the dojo.
46:11Freddy's got full marks.
46:13Next up, Alice.
46:17Has her memory training
46:18paid off?
46:19She's looking a bit wobbly.
46:20Don't forget this challenge
46:26decides which two brainy's
46:28will go through
46:29to the final round.
46:30The table of supreme focus.
46:39Alice is struggling
46:40a little with the order.
46:44She seems happy
46:45with her answer
46:46but I think the dizziness
46:47must have got to her.
46:48Finally,
46:54comeback kid Patrick
46:55gets his turn.
46:56He looks as confident
46:57as ever
46:57as he takes on the beam
46:59and doesn't dilly-dally
47:03with the order.
47:07But will it be fast enough
47:08to secure
47:09his place in the final?
47:10Time for the results.
47:17Freddy,
47:1750 seconds
47:18and no penalties.
47:22Alice,
47:23one minute 17
47:24plus 15 seconds
47:26of penalties
47:26for three images
47:27in the wrong order.
47:29That's 1.32 in total.
47:32It all hangs
47:33on Patrick's score.
47:3557 seconds
47:36and no penalties.
47:37which means
47:38it's three in a row
47:39for Cheeky Freddy
47:40and Quiet Alice
47:41is out.
47:42Walk of eternal regret.
48:00I feel really disappointed.
48:04But I got this far,
48:06so I have no idea
48:09who's going to win.
48:10Freddy seems very confident,
48:11but Patrick
48:12kind of
48:13just kind of
48:14gets on with it.
48:19So,
48:19with only one level
48:20to go,
48:21it leaves just
48:21Cheeky Freddy
48:22and comeback kid Patrick
48:23to wear the brown brain belts
48:25in preparation
48:26for the final.
48:28Yes!
48:28Can't believe I won.
48:29I'm going to be in the final.
48:30I have to play for Patrick
48:31in the table
48:32of Supreme Focus.
48:34Yes!
48:35I got through!
48:36I think Patrick's
48:37got a bit weaker now,
48:38so I might do well
48:40against him.
48:40I hope I win.
48:41To feel that black brain belt
48:43in my head,
48:43I just feel like
48:44I was being crowned king
48:46or something.
48:49Brain Jitsu!
48:52Eight young hopefuls
48:54arrived at Brain Training Dojo
48:56to fight it out
48:57for Brain Jitsu
48:58Black Brain Belt.
49:00As challenges got tougher,
49:02brainies got fewer.
49:03Some lacked speed.
49:05Others cracked under pressure.
49:06But one by one,
49:08they have been eliminated
49:10until just two remain.
49:13Cheeky Freddy,
49:14who is riding high
49:15after three straight wins.
49:16Now I've come first again.
49:18Maybe, hopefully,
49:19I can come first
49:20and win the whole thing.
49:21And comeback kid Patrick,
49:23whose dramatic exit
49:24shocked everyone,
49:25but who got second chance
49:27at glory.
49:27I feel like I should win
49:29because I have been given
49:32a second chance
49:32and I want to make the most of it.
49:34But who will use
49:35Brain Training to the max
49:36to win final challenge?
49:40Level seven,
49:41Black Belt!
49:42So, this is it.
49:46Between my two remaining
49:47brainies and the Black Belt
49:49stands Brain Jitsu's
49:51ultimate challenge,
49:52a mental duel
49:53that is head-to-head
49:55in every sense.
49:57The battlefield?
49:58A table,
49:59but not just any table.
50:01For this, my friends,
50:02is the table of supreme focus,
50:05where our two brainies
50:06will attempt to move a ball
50:08across the table
50:09using only
50:10the power of their mind.
50:13By getting this far,
50:14they've already demonstrated
50:15mental control
50:16under many different
50:17types of pressure.
50:19But now,
50:20they must learn
50:20to focus their minds
50:21by entering a state
50:23of total calm.
50:25To prepare them,
50:26my two finalists
50:27will need to get into
50:28the zone.
50:30Room of Mental Nourishment.
50:34Yes!
50:35We welcome Patrick and Freddie,
50:36our two brown brain belt holders,
50:38to the final room
50:39of Mental Nourishment.
50:40For this task,
50:41brainies must bring together
50:43all the training
50:44they have received
50:44to achieve ultimate focus.
50:48Brain training.
50:50Mentally prepare yourself
50:51for the final task.
50:53Don't let the sounds
50:54put you off.
50:56That's it.
50:57Just lie back and relax.
50:58Comeback kid Patrick looks
51:09very focused.
51:10He's clearly determined
51:11not to let the black
51:12brain belt slip away twice.
51:15Cheeky Freddy, however,
51:16seems to be having a hard
51:17time concentrating.
51:18Maybe the training tip
51:19will help.
51:20Breathe in slowly
51:21through your nose.
51:23Feel the passage of air.
51:25Count to five.
51:25Breathe out slowly
51:27through your mouth.
51:28Counting to five.
51:30Repeat.
51:35Patrick is in the zone again.
51:41But Freddie can't seem
51:42to find his focus
51:43and he's having to
51:44physically block out
51:45the noise.
51:46Breathe in.
51:47Breathe out.
51:49Breathe in.
51:50Breathe out.
51:51I think I could go
51:53all the way.
51:54The way.
51:54The way.
51:55The way.
51:55I think I'm definitely
51:56back to win it.
51:57To win it.
51:58To win it.
51:59To survive the table
52:00of supreme focus
52:01and win the black
52:02brain belt,
52:03my brainees must now
52:04put all their brain
52:05training to the test.
52:06Come on then!
52:08Will Cheeky Freddy
52:09make it four wins
52:10in a row?
52:12Steady, Freddy.
52:13Or will come back
52:13kid Patrick
52:14ace the final exam?
52:16Let's find out.
52:17Table of Supreme Focus
52:22Rules are simple.
52:25Each brainee must push
52:27ball to their opponent's
52:28end of table
52:29using only power of mind.
52:32Sensors in brainees'
52:33headbands measure
52:34brain waves.
52:35This is converted
52:36into electrical signal
52:38which moves ball.
52:40More focused mind,
52:42stronger signal
52:43and faster ball will travel.
52:46See how brainees
52:47are doing on this
52:48readout.
52:49Two lines represent
52:50each player's brain waves.
52:52Lower the line,
52:53more concentrated
52:54their mind.
53:09To make sure
53:10this is the test
53:11of all tests,
53:12our brainees
53:13must win the best
53:14of three rounds.
53:15So, this is the big one.
53:19Our two finalists
53:19must use all
53:20their brain training
53:21to enter their zone
53:22of absolute focus
53:23if they are to succeed.
53:25This is the reason
53:26they came to the dojo.
53:28This is the moment
53:29they've been training for.
53:30The Sheehan
53:35starts them off
53:36and the mind race
53:37is on.
53:43Patrick's the first
53:43to move the ball.
53:45The low black line
53:45on the readout
53:46shows he's really
53:47exploiting his brain training
53:49and he's breathing steadily
53:50to maximise his focus.
53:53Freddie's high green line
53:55and those scrunched up eyes
53:56show anything
53:57nothing but relaxation.
54:04Comeback kid Patrick
54:06has won the first round.
54:07He's achieved maximum focus
54:08and will have gained
54:09even more confidence
54:10from that win.
54:12Can Cheeky Freddie
54:13get back the self-belief
54:14he's had
54:15throughout his time
54:15in the dojo
54:16to even the score.
54:23It's another flying start
54:24for Patrick.
54:25His lower black brain wave line
54:27shows he's still
54:28very much in the zone.
54:37Patrick's lost focus
54:39for a second
54:39and the ball stopped
54:40but he's on a roll again.
54:42Cheeky Freddie
54:47looking a little flushed.
54:53That's it.
54:54It's all over.
55:00It's a triumph
55:01for comeback kid Patrick.
55:03He used his training
55:04to the max
55:04to prove himself
55:05a true master of the mind
55:07and worthy winner
55:08of the black belt
55:09of brain jitsu.
55:12After all the training
55:14we did
55:14just to get to this point
55:15is really amazing.
55:17It's...
55:17I can't really put it
55:18into words.
55:19I'm just astounded.
55:22Glory for one
55:23brings disappointment
55:24for another.
55:25He fought valiantly
55:26but now Freddie
55:27must leave the dojo.
55:32The walk of eternal regret.
55:37I thought of nothing
55:38as in...
55:39not as in
55:39just blank
55:40as in nothing.
55:42Get everything else
55:43out of my head
55:43but the ball still
55:44kept coming.
55:45Patrick had,
55:46I don't know,
55:47a weapon inside.
55:49I did the best I could
55:50and that's good enough.
55:53So...
55:53So Cheeky Freddie
55:55was pipped at the post
55:56and it's a triumph
55:57for comeback kid Patrick.
56:01After being knocked out
56:02in the stair-off
56:03against Freddie
56:04at level three
56:05Jack's illness
56:05gave him his passport
56:06back into the dojo
56:08and he grabbed that
56:09second chance
56:09with both hands.
56:11Two rounds to nil
56:12in the final challenge
56:13shows he truly used
56:14all his brain training
56:15to win the
56:16Brain Jitsu
56:17Black Brain Belt
56:18champion.
56:20Our journey
56:21has come to an end.
56:23Another brainy
56:23has proven themselves
56:24worthy
56:25to wear the
56:26Brain Jitsu
56:26Black Belt.
56:28But while
56:29Brain Jitsu
56:30might represent
56:31the most extreme
56:32form of brain training
56:33its philosophy
