00:00Hello and welcome to this National James Weather Update for Monday.
00:04The cyclone is still brewing in the north there, it is still increasing in terms of its strength and capacity
00:09and it is likely to move inland around here in a couple of days time.
00:13So what that is going to do is it is now a big ball of moisture
00:17and it is going to impact our weather over the next week or two.
00:20As long as that moisture hangs around, it feeds into our weather systems
00:23and even though the cyclone won't exist anymore and we're hundreds of kilometres away from it,
00:28we're going to see an increase in the amount of rain because of that moisture feed.
00:32So there's our first bit, we've got troughs that are running through the middle of the country today.
00:36Let's just have a look at warnings to start off with.
00:39So here is our cyclone, it is up to here and then where the black line starts,
00:42that's where it is going from here.
00:44Here is our heatwave condition, so all of the yellows, the oranges and then the red colour.
00:49So that's heatwave and it is quite extensive and it's right down into the bottom of Queensland
00:53and northern New South Wales.
00:54Fire danger is in through here, flood watch here
00:57and then we've got our ocean warnings that are in through there.
01:00So there's quite a bit going on.
01:02Let's have a look day by day, what to expect now.
01:04What I have on this map is the cyclone that is there,
01:07but these colours, the reds and the purples, that is our heat.
01:10So have a look at the pattern of that one each day.
01:13Wherever you see it surging down,
01:14that is where heat is extending down into the southern parts of the country.
01:18However, when you see the light blues and the blue and then the purple colours in through here,
01:23that's a cold outbreak that is coming up from the south.
01:25So watch out for those two colours to see whether it's hot or whether it is cold.
01:29The grey lines in between, that is the thickness, but these solid grey lines, that is our pressure.
01:35So here is our trough by the end of the day in through here.
01:38And then the coloured areas, that is how much rain we're likely to see for the day.
01:41OK, so we've got a fair bit of activity that's in through here today,
01:44south-east Queensland, north-east New South Wales.
01:46Otherwise, the trough moving through, very hit and miss showers and thunderstorms out ahead of that one.
01:51That is Monday.
01:53Have a look at Tuesday.
01:54More widespread activity all through here.
01:56Showers and thunderstorms.
01:58Here's our next cold outbreak.
01:59Not as strong as what it was first looking, but stay tuned for days three and four after here.
02:05So it's mainly in through here today and here is the cyclone.
02:08So that's Tuesday.
02:09Have a look at Wednesday.
02:10Here's our next cold outbreak coming out from the south.
02:12So that's Wednesday into Thursday that that one moves through.
02:16I'll just go back to Wednesday.
02:17Here's our showers and thunderstorms all through these areas here.
02:20And another burst of the news moving across the south-east.
02:23So all of that is fed by the cyclone's moisture here.
02:27And it's just going to keep on coming, but not for the south-west.
02:30So there's Wednesday and then into Thursday.
02:33We're getting another build-up of this in through here and lots of activity now contracting northwards through Queensland.
02:39So there's Thursday.
02:40Here is the next one on Friday.
02:41Another big, juicy north-west cloud band picking up from the remains of that moisture
02:46and spreading it right down into the south.
02:48That is Friday.
02:49We still get this activity that's in through here.
02:51Into Saturday, this continues to move across the south-east.
02:54The next one is building in through here.
02:56We've got all of this through Queensland.
02:58And there is our heat pattern in the north and here is our cold pattern in the south.
03:03There's Saturday.
03:03Having a look at Sunday, we've got another connection that's making its way down through here.
03:07We've got another cold outbreak that's coming in.
03:10And all of these showers and storms in Queensland.
03:12Having a look at Monday, the next one starts to move across the south-east.
03:15You've got all of that wet weather that is out ahead of that and the cold outbreak that does come in.
03:21So what might that actually add up to?
03:23Lots near the cyclone.
03:24And then it is wherever those weather systems move.
03:27Now, a lot of this activity here, yes, it's widespread, but the heavier falls are if you're directly underneath a thunderstorm.
03:33That does connect down to the south-east as well.
03:36So we're getting some nice falls as it moves in through here, western parts of Tasmania.
03:41But the south-west of the country is missing out.
03:43As always, head to you, follow my long weather for the latest.
