00:43One day at a time. One day at a time. One day at a time.
00:54Hi-ya! Hi-ya! Hi-ya! Hi-ya! Hi-ya! Hi-ya! Don't tell me. You're warming up for another
01:03exciting date with all hands Johnson.
01:06Hi-ya! No, I'm warming up to play racquetball with Julie and Mom. You know, you really should come to
01:11the gym with us sometimes, Max.
01:12You'd have a good time. Oh, thanks. But not tonight. Tonight I'm taking my first lesson in night flying.
01:16That scares me. Why? Well, because I love you. Uh-huh. Take your pants off. Wait a second!
01:27I have to iron them, dummy. Aw, shoot. I wanted to get a picture for the Christmas cards.
01:34Yeah, I wish we had an ironing board in the camper.
01:37Max! What?
01:39Well, she's family.
01:42So, where's your mother?
01:43What do you want, an audience?
01:45She didn't come home for dinner.
01:47Yeah. Between work and school, she seems to have forgotten that she has a home.
01:50I never see her anymore.
01:52Maybe she's having an affair?
01:54No, you can always tell.
01:56She gets a dumb smile on her face.
01:59She's becoming a workaholic.
02:01Hi, everybody.
02:03Oh, um, oh, now I remember. Hi, Mom.
02:07I have heard so much about you.
02:10I'm so glad I finally get to meet you.
02:12Okay. So, I missed dinner one night.
02:17Two nights.
02:18A week. A month.
02:20Hi, Shorty.
02:22Well, if it isn't a proud bird with a golden tail.
02:28Mother, a jelly donut. You're gonna spoil your dinner.
02:31No, I won't. This is my dinner.
02:33You're gonna need some real energy to play racquetball.
02:35Oh, I'm sorry.
02:37I can't go to the gym tonight.
02:39Got a business appointment.
02:40Mother, you're being consumed by your work.
02:43I mean, you're running around like crazy, gulping down junk food.
02:47And now, for dessert, a nutritious roll-aid.
02:50Oh, look. Come on. I'm fine.
02:52Right now, I gotta change and get over to Simpson's Mortuary.
02:56New account.
02:58Well, if you have to wait, don't lie down.
03:02I'm telling you, that woman is making me look bad.
03:04She's twice my age.
03:05Not quite.
03:08Almost twice my age.
03:09And she is. She's doing twice the work.
03:11Okay. So, I love it.
03:14Don't discourage her, Max.
03:15She keeps claiming that one of these days, she's gonna take us to Tahiti.
03:18Ooh, am I included?
03:19Maybe I can get some color on these knees.
03:21Gotta run.
03:22You ought to try walking, Shorty.
03:24You know, you'll still get there.
03:25Oh, come on. Look, you guys. I'm fine.
03:27Last week, I saw a doctor.
03:28He said I was terrific.
03:30Did he give you a thorough physical?
03:32Thorough enough, considering it was our first date.
03:37Okay, everybody in the shower.
03:40China, what the hell were you doing in our bathroom?
03:41Hooking up your brand new magic massage pulsating shower head.
03:47Well, it is about time.
03:49I ordered it three months ago.
03:50I think with a little effort, we could have gotten it sooner.
03:52Huh? Huh?
03:55She seem a little uptight to you.
03:56Snyder, I got a lot of things on my mind.
03:59Okay?
03:59Yeah, well, maybe this shower head is exactly what you need.
04:02See?
04:02It's got four settings, depending on your mood.
04:05It's got soothing, tingling, invigorating, and hurt me mama.
04:14Thank you, Snyder.
04:17I gotta go.
04:18I gotta go to the mortuary.
04:19I don't want to be late.
04:19Well, you don't want to be early.
04:23It's for her work, Snyder.
04:25Oh, yeah?
04:25Well, that makes her a working stiff.
04:30Mom!
04:32I guess she's not home yet.
04:35Barbara, which burger is yours?
04:37Uh, one with all the ketchup.
04:42I found it.
04:45Bob, will you get the phone?
04:49Oh.
04:52Hello?
04:54Yes, this is her daughter.
04:57What?
04:58What happened?
05:01Oh, no.
05:02Julie, what's the matter?
05:03It's Mom.
05:04She's in the hospital.
05:05It's her heart.
05:07Is she going to be okay?
05:10I see.
05:11Uh, thank you.
05:13Let her know.
05:13We gotta go right now.
05:16Come on.
05:16All right, kid, now let...

05:51We're looking for our mother, our mother, Anne Romano.
05:54Can we see her?
05:55I'll have to check with the attending physician.
05:57Please wait here.
06:12Julie, what was...
06:13She's gonna be okay.
06:14Barbara, she's gotta be okay.
06:18I wish they'd tell us something.
06:21Well, you know what they say.
06:22Hey, no news is no news.
06:28I mean, how big an attack could she have?
06:31She's such a little woman.
06:35Just a theory of mine.
06:37Girls.
06:40Miss Romano is under sedation.
06:43But I'll let you see her for a minute.
06:46Julie?
06:47Yeah, me too.

10:03they give them
10:09uh mr schneider sex is not a determining factor in heart problems
10:13thank god
10:19actually women don't get nearly as many heart attacks as men at this age but now that we're going for
10:25equal jobs pay pressures and we're smoking like chimneys we're bound to get our share of heart attacks
10:31now i see that your mother holds down a job she goes to college runs a household
10:36now that's a loaded situation you don't handle it properly
10:41is your mom the kind of person who controls her emotions
10:45yes
10:49she usually controls them
10:50yeah that's with her with me she just lets it fly
10:53that's that's the best thing she could do let it out

11:25look she's young she's strong and apparently very feisty
11:29now about the only thing we can do right now is wait and uh maybe say a little prayer

16:26she'd have been using that magic massage every night
16:31all the pressure all the tension would have gone right down the drain
16:35instead
16:35you're right to a heart
16:37schneider
16:38it's not your fault
16:39it's mine

17:38i got i uh i got something in my eye
17:42what happened anyway
17:44mom collapsed at the funeral parlor
17:46i think she's the only person to ever arrive at this hospital in a hearse
17:52you know
17:53when she comes home
17:54if they don't want her to move around a lot
17:55you know
17:56if they want her to kind of be quiet
17:57i could uh
17:58i could rig up a battery powered bed see
18:01and then she could move around the apartment
18:03and she could do
18:03she could do a housework lying down
18:07that's very thoughtful side
18:10listen um
18:12what if mom can't get up
18:13when she gets out of the hospital
18:16well you can't expect her to just jump up
18:18and start racing around like she usually does
18:20she tries to do that
18:21i'm gonna bop her right on top of her head
18:24listen max i know she won't get up right away

18:28what if mom's an invalid

19:06and she'll probably have a complete recovery
19:09less than a week
19:11well uh was it a heart attack or not
19:13well a layman would call it a heart attack
19:15technically what she had was cardiac arrest
19:18the heart sustained a very serious shock
19:21but apparently there was no damage
19:23she was a lucky lady
19:24thank god the funeral director knew cpr
