00:00One of the other big headlines going on in town right now, and it was because Albert Breer
00:05was on afternoon drive. We'll go right to the bite from last night, and we'll ask you the
00:10question, uh, is the time clock ticking towards the end of the Miles Garrett era here with the
00:17Cleveland Browns with the June 1st? Um, I don't know what is it. It's what's Jeff. What is it?
00:23Technically the June 1st deadline, June 1st, it changes a contract situation. Yeah. I'm not sure
00:29what's the proper way to describe it. Is there an official kind of, it's got, does it have
00:36a name? Demarcation. They always call it the June 1st designation. Yeah. You know, the
00:40designation day. June 1st designation. Okay. So with the June 1st designation coming up
00:46then for Miles Garrett, the question is going to come into play, especially over the next
00:51couple of days. Will he be with the Browns this season or is it time to move on? Here
00:56is what Albert Breer had to say. Logistically, there are some things they did moving, you
01:01know, the payment back, which, you know, like would create some runway for them to, uh, to
01:06take offers on him. If, if those came along, I think like I've been through the logic and
01:11trading him with you guys. I actually agree with some of the reason to do it after June
01:151st, it becomes easier, you know? So I think that like, when you look at the landscape, you
01:20know, on top of there being a new coaching staff there and the team being in the middle of the
01:24youth movement, you know, certainly I think that, you know, things are TBD, you know,
01:31until you're otherwise. That could be next week. That could be the trade deadline. Like
01:35this does feel like the type of time when you would entertain that type of thought.
01:42Hmm. Debra Harry said the time is right. Is that who it was? I was right. Yeah.
01:46Little Blondie reference. Nice. Um, what do you think?
01:50Wasn't it the tide is high? The time is right. I don't know. It sounds like the time is right.
01:54The tide is high. Yeah, you're right. I think it was the tide is high. Yeah. It doesn't matter.
01:58Who cares? For my purposes, it sounded the same. It sounds the same.
02:08Jeff, is the time right? Miles Garrett. No, but the tide is high. Yes. Um, what was the,
02:15I, you gotta, I think you tread lightly on this one, Andy. Do you? You tread lightly,
02:23but man, your eyes are open. I, I, you had the best defensive player in the NFL the last
02:29two years and you want to combine eight games. Yeah. You won eight games. I mean, I, that,
02:36and I think miles is tremendous. You won eight games. And if some team wants to call you and give
02:46you players and picks, you better answer that phone and you better listen. Do you agree?
02:56Yes. And I also, the more I think about it, right. And he kind of touched on it.
03:02Can I give you one last thought on real quick? Sure. Go ahead. I'll give my thoughts.
03:05Miles is also going into his 10th NFL season. 10th.
03:13Um, could he pull an Aaron Donald? Hey, thanks everybody. It's been fun. I'm out of here.
03:20Miles seems like a guy with a lot of different interests. I don't. And I just looked it up.
03:26Only 11 defensive ends have played 15 or more or more than 15 years in the NFL. So you got
03:35to
03:35figure it the most. You're going to have miles for six. You might, miles might only play another
03:40three or four years. I mean, he, he might get to the dome. He might not. I would be,
03:46I would be listening. I wouldn't actively be, you know, trying to trade him, but I I'd certainly
03:53be answering the phone. Um, the, the years are right. Uh, just looking, there's about a hundred
04:03to 120 players in the NFL that have more than 10 years experience just for the record, active
04:09players right now that have that. Um, I would say, um, take a look at the stadium downtown,
04:16close your eyes, head West, a little bit South. Now open your eyes and see the dome because I feel
04:24like that is where the franchise has its sights set on that. Everything needs to be buttoned up by
04:32the time they walk into the dome and that they'll feel good about having their quarterback in the
04:37future. And that the roster will be what just a couple of years older. What are we looking at?
04:43Two more years older, especially for the guys they drafted last year, the guys they drafted this year.
04:48And if you feel like you're going to have your fan franchise quarterback, are your odds greater?
04:53If you trade miles Garrett right now, I'm not saying they're giving up on the season. I'm not saying
04:59they're giving up on next season. I would agree. I'm not saying they're giving up on the season
05:03afterwards, but I think that this roster wants to be as rock solid as it possibly can when this team
05:11moves out to the airport, Brook Park, right? Don't you think so out to the new dome? And I kind
05:17of have
05:17that vision for the team very much, Jeff, like the vision we saw in the early nineties, mid nineties,
05:24when the baseball team, Oh, you're looking, look at you. You're doing the vision vision when the
05:29baseball team was not very good. And then all of a sudden that last year when they were an old
05:34municipal, things started to change. And then when they walked across the street or two or three
05:39blocks down the road, um, and found themselves at Carnegie in Ontario, it was a different feeling
05:46and a different atmosphere. And I felt like the burden of the lakefront was gone when they moved
05:52into there. I kind of feel like the Browns are leaning in that direction to walk away from the burden
05:57of the lakefront that has no history. That stadium has brought us no playoff games. And wouldn't it be
06:05nice to host at least one home playoff game before they walk out the door? Let's see what they look
06:09like
06:10in 27, right? I would, I would seriously consider trading. Seriously. Yeah. By the way, he hasn't
06:17talked to the new head coach. It seems like he's frustrated about that. I know these are optional.
06:22I know this is optional. I think that's a leap on your part. It's not a leap. We don't like
06:26it
06:26told us last week. The coach is frustrated. Yeah. Yeah. Well, maybe he just said no and turned his head
06:33and coughed. He didn't talk like this, did he? Thanks for getting it. Um, I just don't,
06:42I don't feel like it's good right now with him. The contract has been restructured. The door is
06:49open to trading him right now. The thing is, is that I'm not, you know, he's 30 like Breer
06:56said season at 30. He turns 31 in December. Aaron Donald retired at 32 after 10 seasons
07:03next year is miles 10th season. I, and I'm not saying he's going to go the Aaron Donald path,
07:10but I think you need to be aware of that. He's been remarkably healthy, Andy, remarkably healthy.
07:17He's missed two games in the last four years. That's it. Two games in the last five years.
07:25That's really good. Yeah. I mean, he has value right now. I'm just wondering where his value is
07:31going to go. And I just don't, it doesn't feel like it's real good right now. I just, the vibe
07:38I
07:38have makes me think that what's not real good. I don't feel like the vibe is real good. And by
07:45the
07:46way, he said, so meaning what though? Meaning that he wants out or meaning that he's not going to play
07:51well. I thought the morning guy said it best that, you know, he went down this road before
07:55he was extremely vocal about wanting to leave. Oh, I mean, he was campaigning. Yeah. And then
07:59all of a sudden basically telling everybody, yep, I'm out. He, he has no reason to campaign right
08:04now. All he's got to do is just kind of be himself. And with the restructuring of this thing, I
08:10mean,
08:10you don't think the Browns wouldn't pay him for as much money as he ever wanted. If they felt like
08:14that this was going to help them get to a Superbowl, Jeff, you said it eight wins last
08:19two seasons, great defensive player. Great. But if he brings you back a couple of first
08:25round draft picks and then some players, how do you not look at the situation? Listen, Andy,
08:32would you, you have to listen, you must, and you must be, if you're going to listen, you
08:36better be ready to pull the trigger because you may hear something you really want. What
08:41would you really want for him? I mean, the conversation starts at two first round picks
08:45starts there for me. I would think that the only catch to that is this. I would think a
08:54team that would trade for miles would think that they are a miles Garrett away from winning
08:59a Superbowl, which would mean your picks would be, you know, 25 and below. I would want a couple
09:09of guys I could put on the football field too. And I don't think we're just blowing hot air
09:14on this thing because again, Albert Brewer on the afternoon show yesterday had said, look,
09:20the rumors out there, um, and it sounds like it's percolating. I mean, it just seems like
09:26if there's smoke, there's fire.
09:31That's all stuff worth paying attention to. And, and, you know, we'll, we'll see what happens,
09:36but until, you know, miles Garrett shows up and until, you know, your, you starts working
09:42with his teammates towards the 2026 season, it's absolutely something worth paying attention
09:48to. It's the best player in your team. You know what I mean? Like, so, you know, I, again,
09:52like I've, I've told you guys the logic for, you know, potentially trading him. I think
09:58it's solid logic and it doesn't even have to be about him being unhappy, by the way, this
10:02could just be time, you know, so we'll see what happens.
10:06I mean, I get it that miles may not want to go through just another change with head
10:11coaches. Who knows miles in here? Yeah. Yeah. And so, you know, you don't want to go to
10:16OTAs up here. It's your prerogative. It's what the, um, Andy, if you're going to
10:23OTAs up, you probably wouldn't show up. Here's what I would do. I don't know that
10:28I'm working out, but I am coming in to meet the head coach. I, at the very least
10:33I'm calling the head coach. And especially if you're here in town, even if you're
10:38not, but he was because he was here for a Cavs game. Yeah. Remember? Hey, Todd, how
10:44about breakfast? You know, I'd go, I'd go meet with the guy, but, but we don't, no,
10:50we're not in his shoes. So that's just what you would do. It's what I would do. Would
10:54you have sent Todd to the, uh, to the Cavs game? If you were the Browns? No. I mean,
10:59they have seats are pretty good down there. No, that'd be a little too visible. It'd
11:03be goofy. Wouldn't it? Yeah. You know what it would be like? It'd be like, do you
11:07remember on Z night when they retired Z's number and that they always said that that
11:13was kind of the night that led to, Hey, could LeBron ever come back? Yeah. And I'll just
11:18never forget standing on a corner where Dan Gilbert was heading one way and LeBron
11:21was heading the other. And I was just kind of standing there and I was like, this is
11:25a show. Like, could you imagine if Munkin was at the Cavs game? And so was, was
11:30no, I mean, if I was miles, I would have called the coach, but miles doesn't have
11:35to. And if I was the coach, I would have called miles, but miles doesn't have to
11:39pick up again. It's voluntary. So until, until miles doesn't show up for something
11:46that matters, Andy, who cares? Really? I mean, everything that's being made about
11:52them, not connecting is nothing but fabrication. So what? Well, it's not
11:56fabrication. It's true. The coach said it. No, I mean any drama that we're putting
12:00around that is fabrication. The thing is though, when Kevin was here drama,
12:06it's voluntary, right? No, I get that part of it, but I wouldn't you want to go in
12:10and say hi to the new boss? I'm not saying that. I just said I would. Yeah. And I
12:14know you, you know, you'd be in there sucking up. That'd be great. Oh, okay. Yeah.
12:18We can't all be Jeff Phelps. Come on. Some of us can live on pure talent. Like Jeff
12:24is a joke. Other of us have to work a little bit harder. Joke. I know Jeff. Okay. I
12:30just, it's having fun, my man. No, I hear you. I, the, the miles Garrett thing makes me
12:34feel icky. You know what? That's a good way to describe it because I don't want
12:40miles Garrett to go play somewhere else, but it's on the other hand. It's like, Hey
12:44miles, send the guy a text or call him, would you? Or, or Todd, Hey, call him. And
12:51if he doesn't answer the phone, you know, send him a fruit basket. Yeah. You know,
12:56there's some rumblings right now about what's going on. Um, you know, could it
13:01happen? You know, they, they changed his contract up to make it a little bit
13:04easier to trade him. Uh, you know, what would you want for, for miles Garrett? If
13:09you did trade him? Cause we've kind of gone through this a couple of times. Um, and I
13:13started to talk about this last segment, he's Jeff Phelps. I'm Andy Baskin that, you
13:16know, miles went on this major road show, but a year ago at the Superbowl saying, trade
13:24me, trade me, trade me. And then he got his contract. And so he was good to go after
13:28that this time. He doesn't. And this is the point that I got for the morning show, which
13:31I agree with. He doesn't need to do anything, but sit back, relax, and just
13:35wait and see what happens. Doesn't need to go to practice right now. Cause
13:38they're not mandatory. Right. And he, you know, he's already stretched out the
13:42contract, which would make it a little bit easier. And you know, the Browns, I
13:48don't know what the ultimate future is. And if they feel like they can get their
13:52quarterback, I, I, I, I would really hope that their quarterback is here right now,
13:56but I don't know that that's a gimme, um, you know, having a couple extra first
14:01round picks might help in trying to secure a quarterback they think can lead
14:05them, you know, to the promised land, which now it seems to be Brook Park. And
14:09then after that, wherever the Superbowl is. So I'm on a pilgrimage to Brook
14:15Park, the Brook Park. I've split the city in half. I put the Cuyahoga river right in
14:23the middle. I, I, I, would you, would you trade Miles Garrett now? Albert
14:31Breer talked about it. He also talked about, you know, we heard from him about,
14:34you know, is this, are the rumors out there legit? And he touched on that. And
14:39you know, is this the right time to do it? But then the next question, Jeff, is
14:44who would the suitors be if they were out there to want to get them?
14:50You know, the Rams have young talent, they could move. They would actually have
14:53the flexibility to flip you a young player, potentially. And they also have
14:56the quarterback question taken care of now. So they don't need to worry about
14:59like, you know, going and finding Matthew Stafford's replacement in 27 or 28.
15:03You know, I, I think the Eagles are somebody you always pay attention to.
15:07Dallas is like, you know, one that to me, that's where he's from. You know what I
15:11mean? Like, so there would be an appeal there, you know, and, and, and they
15:16obviously traded away Micah Parsons a year ago, you know, so are they a team that
15:20would look at something like that? You know, if you wanted to continue to look
15:24at teams in the other conference, the bears have a quarter, have a quarterback
15:28on a rookie contract. So they'd be a team to look at. I think there'd be no,
15:32there's, there's no shortage of suitors. Agreed.
15:37Lot at the Micah Parsons comparison, I think is, is where this goes. Don't you,
15:41don't you think that's where, as far as what, what the compensation would be?
15:46Eh, you would think. I'm trying to think of another. Was it three number ones?
15:51Yeah, that's what I thought it was. I'm just, you made me think about it.
15:53That's what the pack gave up, right? Is that right, Dan? That's what you gave
15:55up, three numbers. Yeah. I, would you do it? Three number ones for Miles Garrett.
16:00Without question. Jeff, would you do it?
16:03Yeah, I'd ask for a player too. Just because you can, right? Yep.
16:08That's, we all learned something. Absolutely. We learned one thing from that movie.
16:10Absolutely. Absolutely. One. And give me that long snapper just because I can.
16:18Yeah. I would too. Not that I want Rex replaced. I think, yeah, Rex, that's no offense.
16:22Rex, it's, Andy just threw that in for a fact. I'm sorry, Rex, man. I love you.
16:26You know I don't turn on Cleveland, guys. You're from Cleveland. Never.
16:28It's Andy's game. Never. Bay Village. But that's all right.
16:31I've been on a 26-year odyssey for a quarterback. I need anything I can to get me that quarterback.
16:36Yep. And that's really what it is. Especially with next year's draft being loaded with quarterbacks.
16:40Right. And I think we can all safely look at the roster this year and think if the guy of
16:47the future is on this team now, it will surprise us.
16:50And it would mean that somebody took a major jump, which they could. Which they could. And I hope they
16:56do.
16:56And if I got a second first-round pick, I can get my quarterback.
16:59Yeah. Exactly right.
17:00Dom is in Medina. Hello, Domic.
17:02Hello, Dom.
17:03Hey, how's it going, guys?
17:04Good.
17:05Good, good. Yeah.
17:06I think this conversation around Miles, I mean, especially I know that date in June is coming up real quick.
17:13And I don't know if it's going to be this year or it's going to be next year.
17:16But I think the time is right now to do it.
17:19I mean, we'd be selfish as fans.
17:21You know, obviously we all love Miles.
17:23But I think at this point, looking at the best way to build this roster, I think there's no way
17:29you can't think about what could we get.
17:32I mean, you mentioned three first-round picks and a player and throw in the long snapper.
17:36You know, who cares?
17:37Just go out there and get who you can because this roster has potential.
17:41I mean, you've got three or four years before you're in the Dome.
17:43Do what you can now to build this team.
17:46Again, it's selfish to, you know, want to keep Miles.
17:49We love him.
17:49And he's a perennial Hall of Famer.
17:51But at the same time, too, the best way to put ourselves in a good position to win in the
17:56next five years is to get as many draft picks as we can, get as many assets as we can,
18:02go and maybe get that quarterback next year.
18:04Go and continue to build this defense up outside of that defensive end position where Miles is at and just
18:10see where you guys can go from there.
18:11But I think the time is now to do it.
18:13All right, there you have it.
18:14He said what I thought, too, the time is right.
18:17I mean, you've got to listen.
18:18The tide is high, so, you know.
18:21Why is it like that?
18:26Why is it that Blondie song always makes you think that she's saying the time is right?
18:33Right?
18:33No.
18:34Did you ever once think that?
18:35No.
18:36What was the song from Alan Thick's kid?
18:40Cheap Thrills?
18:41Is that what it was?
18:43You with me on that, Dan?
18:44That was a good song.
18:45Yeah.
18:46I don't know if I know that one.
18:48Yeah.
18:48Cheap Thrills, I think, of Big Brother and the Holding Company, which is one of those records that should be
18:51played obscenely loud at all times.
18:53When the kids were little, they used to think it was Cheese Curls.
18:56When I lived in Texas, I lived on the same street Janis Joplin grew up on.
19:00That's a thing, isn't it?
19:01No.
19:02That's a cool one.
19:02No, that's a thing.
19:03That's a way cool one.
19:03It's right down the street.
19:04Yeah.
19:05I didn't have to play that album today.
19:07Man, you made a lot of money when you were there if you were living on Janis Joplin Street.
19:11Janis grew up in the slums where I lived.
19:16Do you qualify?
19:18No.
19:19For free cheese?
19:20No.
19:20No, I wish I had.
19:20We did in Montana.
19:22Wish I had.
19:22That first job in Missoula?
19:24You betcha.
19:26You betcha.
19:27What's for dinner tonight, Andy?
19:29Cheese sandwich?
19:30Here was the worst part.
19:31Then they would get mad.
19:32Like, I think somebody wanted to deliver newspapers.
19:34And they're like, oh, no, no, no.
19:36You work for a TV station.
19:37You can't do that.
19:40I'm just saying.
19:41No, you can't have a second job.
19:42There were reporters at our station who had been working at the grocery store running
19:46checkout.
19:46And they didn't have a problem with that?
19:47The station didn't have a problem with it?
19:48No, they did, actually.
19:49It says you should quit.
19:50Yeah, but didn't they offer them more money?
19:52No.
19:53No.
19:53So, like, I don't know how you can do that.
19:55You think you have this prestigious industry.
19:57Miles Garrett's not working at a checkout.
19:59Well, that's true.
20:00He doesn't have to, though.
20:01That's the deal.
20:02So, at the end of the day, as we have this entire conversation about Miles Garrett, and
20:07you heard what Albert Breer had to say, I don't know that, I don't know that Browns
20:14fans would be shocked if they traded him.
20:16Do you think that this will be something that we will actually be looking at on a near-daily
20:22basis?
20:23I think it might be.
20:24Over the next, what, today's the 27th?
20:27Yeah.
20:28Week.
20:28By Monday.
20:30Could Miles Garrett be on another team Monday?
20:33Yes.
20:34Yes.
20:37Do you think so?
20:38They keep bringing in defensive ends, Andy.
20:41Yeah, that's another thing, too.
20:42No one's really made a big deal about that.
20:45I don't...
20:47Does this smell like a move?
20:49It smells like a move.
20:50I don't think he's on this roster at the start of camp.
20:53I'll put it there.
20:54I think by the start of camp, he will not be on this roster.
20:57Wow.
20:59Dan Mennegan says...
21:00And I'm just reading tea leaves.
21:02I don't know anything.
21:03There's no inside information.
21:04This is just reading the tea leaves.
21:06I don't think he is here by the start of camp.
21:08Jack sends me this email.
21:10Do you think you can get three first-rounders for him?
21:12If so, do it.
21:13Kind of tired of Miles' shtick.
21:15I'll even take two and a young player.
21:17If the Eagles want to throw in Jalen Carter for two first-round picks, done.
21:21Jack continues.
21:22I think he's sack-happy and doesn't play a complete game.
21:26Like T.J. Watt does.
21:28Pains me to say it.
21:29Rarely makes a difference in the run game, and he's 30.
21:32Signed Joey Bosa.
21:34After you trade Miles.
21:35I don't know.
21:36Here's the other part of it.
21:37I know...
21:38I'd swap me Jared Verse and give me two ones.
21:39I'd be real interested.
21:40I mean, I don't know if he's getting paid to be a leader or not, but, I mean, his leadership
21:44abilities have come into question, too.
21:46You know?
21:48It's not like...
21:49It's like we grant him the honor of saying he's a leader because he's a great player,
21:54but you don't really know.
21:56You never know.
21:57The only true way to be in that position is to be, actually be in that locker room and
22:02be a player who looks up to him.
22:04That's how you would know that he's truly a leader.
22:06There were just some times when...
22:08You know, there was a time when I think he could have stuck up for Kevin a little bit.
22:12Didn't do that.
22:13I mean, not that that's his job, but I think when you look at what the definition of a leader
22:19is, he falls short in some of those categories.
22:23If he were 26 or 27, would you feel differently?
22:29Because I would.
22:30Yeah.
22:31Well, I think when you talk about heading into your second decade in the NFL, which is a
22:36world where a lot of players aren't, especially non-quarterbacks.
22:40You're on the back nine.
22:41Nine, you might even be on 14 or 15.
22:44I just, I wonder what Andrew thinks is a fair trade.
22:49You're going to get two or three great years out of him still.
22:52Oh, without question?
22:54Yeah.
22:54I mean, he is a different...
22:55You might get four if he wants to play that long.
22:57Well, you know, say he comes up, say he gets on a team that ends up in the Super Bowl
23:01and then he ends up with two or three sacks in the Super Bowl or maybe four and maybe a
23:06pick or a fumble recovery.
23:07Boom.
23:08You're looking at a guy that could be a Super Bowl MVP.
23:11I mean, I'm just projecting there.
23:13And I don't see that happening right now.
23:15I think the other part of the conversation is what has happened to this team while he's
23:20here and you have not had great success.
23:23And then ask yourself, where are they going with this thing and what do they want to look
23:26like when they move into the Dome?
23:28Am I wrong on this Dome thing?
23:30On this timeline?
23:31Oh, no, I don't know that you're wrong.
23:38But I do think that the Browns want to start winning sooner rather than later.
23:46Because if you take a team, let's just say you think you have a good team for the first
23:52year in the Dome.
23:53Can you imagine if you had a good team for two years straight and then went into the Dome?
24:00And you'd sell every ticket for the whole year before the season even started.
24:06If you had, let's just say your team was really good for the two years prior to.
24:11Yeah.
24:12It would be a slam dunk.
24:14Isn't that the goal?
24:15Yes.
24:16Which means I don't know that you're on an extended time frame.
24:20You know, Andrew Barry's not.
24:21If he doesn't win in the next two years, he'll be done.
24:24No, he won't see the Dome.
24:25Right.
24:25No.
24:26Which means he needs to win games now.
24:28Todd Munkin probably wants to coach in the Dome.
24:30That means he better win some games.
24:33I would think so, too.
24:35Both of those scenarios seem legit.
24:37I just don't know if Myles Garrett's going to be...
24:41I don't project Myles Garrett to be here when the Dome opens.
24:45Unless he's smashing the guitar to open the place.
24:49I just don't see it.
24:50Or wearing an opposing uniform.
24:51It's possible.
24:52He'll still be playing.
24:53Yeah.
24:54But he'll be on the back nine.
24:56That's for sure.
