00:00Which there were, I did get several texts from, you know who, over to the city, to our
00:07east, we'll get to the phones here in a second, which it was, are you ready to admit it now?
00:10And I'm like, are you ready to admit what?
00:12He goes, you know nothing was said.
00:15I go, oh, no.
00:17I firmly, 100%, to my grave, believe that something was said that night.
00:22Oh, now Pony thinks because he's on a new team, you won't have the allegiance, you won't
00:27justify all his actions.
00:28Yeah, that's what he thinks.
00:29That was a heinous act that night?
00:31Yeah.
00:33It was right up there with Marty Jannetty going through the barbershop window.
00:37I mean, that's what it was.
00:39Again, Florio and I argued about, he wanted criminal charges pressed against Miles Garrett.
00:45He wanted him thrown in jail.
00:47Cuyahoga County Jail, he wanted him put into that day, that morning.
00:51Bizarre morning.
00:52And I don't give a damn.
00:54Some would say he spent nine years in Brown's prison.
00:56Miles, that's true.
00:59Well, no, since the trade, it's only been five years in Brown's prison, four years in Brown's
01:03prison.
01:05Four years.
01:06There you go.
01:07And now Jared Vers is here.
01:09I don't think he's going to have the same results as fat ass by a nose coming to Brown's
01:13prison.
01:13But, you know, it's going to be an experience to say the least.
01:19We got to make it nice on him.
01:22I've seen the memes.
01:23We're going to have to be, guys, we got to, through all this being said, let's be open
01:28and hospitable to Jared Verse.
01:30He ain't Miles Garrett.
01:31Okay, fine.
01:32But he's still a damn fine player.
01:34Let's be positive about Jared Verse here.
01:36Let's not do the whole Danny Shelton thing.
01:39Let's not do the whole Jed Wills.
01:42He ain't going to be like Jed Wills.
01:43He's going to work his ass off.
01:44I know that when will he actually meet the head coach?
01:48I'm guessing sometime this week.
01:50Oh, Willie?
01:51I'm guessing.
01:51Certainly next week is it's mandatory minicamp.
01:54He's got to be there.
01:55That would be nice.
01:57Good God.
01:58Let's get started on the right foot this time.
02:012-1-6-4-7-4-0-0-9-2.
02:04Great.
02:05No, I got to get the Joe in North Canaan.
02:06Hello, Joe.
02:08Hey.
02:09Hi.
02:09Hi, Joe.
02:10Go ahead.
02:11Hey.
02:12So, I just want to say why I'm still upset about it.
02:17I understand why they had to make the trade.
02:20I actually, in normal circumstances, I'd probably be all for it.
02:25I like Jared Verse.
02:26Nice young player.
02:28My problem is all of it in the room.
02:32Deshaun won.
02:34You know, you can trace everything that's happened back to that trade.
02:39And now we just lost probably the greatest player in franchise history going back to
02:44that trade.
02:45And they're probably going to turn around and start him now.
02:52Well, I didn't catch the last part and don't repeat it.
02:56It's, it's, is it, you're saying it's going to feel like it's disrespectful to the fans?
03:01Yes.
03:02Okay.
03:02I'm glad you brought this up because it's what I wanted to get into, Joe.
03:05I don't understand the point of playing him.
03:07Well, you know what?
03:08I'm a little emotional, so I'm trying to see this from the big perspective.
03:12It's like, hey, I'm not in the locker room now.
03:14Like, I guarantee Coach Lance would be very upset with what I'm saying right now.
03:18He's a coach, right?
03:19Okay, Joe?
03:21Like, I know that he has a responsibility to the other players.
03:24But me and you, and I think maybe I can bring Lima along on this.
03:28We're going, hey, you're not going to win a lot of games this year.
03:31We all know why you made this trade.
03:32What the hell's the point?
03:33Why am I playing this guy that nobody wants to see?
03:36Right.
03:36You know?
03:38Now, I could try to spin it the way that Lima has.
03:40Joe, thank you very much for the call.
03:42It's a great point.
03:43I could try to spin it the way that you have there and the way that it's kind of been
03:47brought up.
03:47And by the way, it's not really a spin.
03:49It could be the right way.
03:51If you've changed out your offense, maybe the guy who's the second-year guy,
03:55maybe it is better for him to sit for a second and learn and see where it is.
04:00But I think for a lot of us, it's like, hey, we're in evaluation mode now.
04:03I don't have to evaluate Deshaun Watson.
04:06There's nothing to evaluate.
04:07I'm just counting the days now.
04:10When it comes to Shador, probably not much there now.
04:14Again, I think that this is also because of this move and indictment on the quarterback room.
04:19But I'd rather see him.
04:21I'd rather see somebody who might give me some sort of a future, has a chance for some sort of
04:28a future compared to Deshaun Watson.
04:31Because what's Deshaun Watson going to do?
04:32If he ends up playing decent, are you going to trust him to give him a contract?
04:37Or are you just going to trade more people and try to move up in the draft?
04:41Are you really going to do that?
04:42Are you going to be fooled again?
04:43And I've always brought up the thing, does he even want to be here after this year?
04:47Like, these are all things that we have to take into account.
04:49And now that you've made this trade, I'm going, what's the point?
04:52In the big picture, what's the point?
04:55Because you've got to do what you can to get the quarterback here.
04:57He just gets in the way and muddies that water.
04:59Shador Sanders, he might muddy the water.
05:01But I'd much rather give him a chance to see where it is.
05:04Because he's younger.
05:06He's more fun to watch.
05:07He's more fun to talk about.
05:09I think he's more fun to argue about.
05:11Now, some people on the internet would definitely disagree.
05:13There's been some nasty things thrown out by people on the internet.
05:16I get that.
05:16But I just find to have more fun.
05:19And if I'm going, man, if I'm going to be here and we're going to deal with this season
05:21where we're not going to win a lot of games, and they just told us we're not going to win
05:24a lot of games by this action, I might as well have some fun watching a guy out there.
05:28Should I not?
05:29Yeah, I mean, unless they just think he stinks, right?
05:32Unless they just think Shador stinks.
05:33And they could just think he stinks.
05:34And is incapable of picking up the offense.
05:36Which is a tough pill for me to swallow.
05:38Well, you know, the odds are against them, right?
05:40I've denied myself a lot this winter.
05:43I've denied the conversation about Miles, so maybe I'm denying everything about Shador
05:47Sanders.
05:47I'm not above examining that.
05:50It's a different conversation.
05:51I'm with you that it would just make sense.
05:53Just play the kid.
05:54Like, play Shador.
05:56Oh, you agree with me on this for the most part?
05:57Well, I think we've been saying this pretty consistently for a while now.
06:01Okay.
06:01But for Todd Munkin to resist that, what does that tell you about Shador?
06:07Like, it does seem pretty crazy that you wouldn't start him.
06:11Unless they just think he's flat out not ready or not good enough, or a combination of both.
06:14Well, 2-1-6-4-7-4-0-0-92.
06:17Let's see where Greg and Hudson.
06:18Congratulations on all your success, Greg.
06:20You're next up on the fan.
06:22What say you?
06:24Thank you for taking my call, gentlemen.
06:26I'm very disappointed in this move.
06:29I don't think that great organizations, even good organizations, trade away first-time
06:35ballot Hall of Famers.
06:37The idea is to acquire talent, build, you know, with that talent, develop that talent, not
06:44to trade it away and be a farm system for the rest of the NFL.
06:49This has been in the making for years.
06:50This is what, when we drafted Garrett, this is what we were supposed to be doing.
06:54I mean, he landed in our lap for crying out loud, and they've wasted nine years of this
06:58dude's, you know, career.
07:01And now, I just can't, I just can't root for this team anymore.
07:05Now, I'm 65 years old.
07:07I've been to Red Right 88, I sat in that game.
07:10I sat at the drive.
07:11You know, I've seen how good organizations, you know, run their operation.
07:16This guy, Haslam, is so far away from being a good owner, it isn't even funny.
07:21He's just here designed to be a cash cow for himself.
07:25And I just, I'm going to leave you with this.
07:27I mean, I feel like that's all the owners these days.
07:29I feel like that's what they're doing.
07:30Yeah, but he's a Bronx fan, so it's not going to justify it to him.
07:33Let me hear you out, Greg.
07:34Go ahead.
07:35Okay, I'm going to leave you with this.
07:36I'm going to be short and sweet.
07:38If I'm not mistaken, Haslam owns the Bucs now?
07:42The Milwaukee Bucs?
07:43Well, he is a, technically, they do a weird way where they basically rotate who's in charge.
07:48He has a voice in what goes on in that organization.
07:50Yeah, he's, well, technically, right now, he's the one in charge.
07:53Okay, there you go.
07:54That's what I'm getting to.
07:55Okay, so in one year, this guy who's owned the Cleveland Browns and now the Milwaukee Bucs
08:01is going to trade away two first-time Hall of Fame, the Hall of Famers, in two different sports in
08:07the same year.
08:08That's, I think, pretty close to being worse than the Babe Ruth trade.
08:15Nobody knows about it, but you read about it.
08:17Well, if I'm going to say anything.
08:20Now, I mean, I know what Lyman just said, but if I'm going to say anything, Greg, thank you for
08:23the call.
08:24Like, you'd be stupid not to trade Giannis.
08:25Giannis was not his doing.
08:26Giannis was not his doing.
08:29When you're the owner of the Browns and you make the trade for Watson and Watson ends up blowing in
08:33your face,
08:33like, you answer to that.
08:34The Giannis part of it, that's just added fodder for everybody else.
08:39That's just the roll of the dice, yes.
08:41But if Giannis ends up in Cleveland, does Greg consider it a wash?
08:45Oh, that's fair.
08:47That's for a different day.
08:48That is for a different day.
08:49And that, of course, is brought to you by Surfside.
08:52Yeah, Cavs Conversations brought to you by Surfside Hard Iced Tea.
08:55Ask you to please enjoy that Surfside Hard Iced Tea responsibly.
08:59Well done.
09:00Get that in there.
09:02That's good producing right there, brother.
09:032-1-6-4-7-4-0-0-92.
09:06Yeah, no, I kind of want to ask Greg.
09:08I mean, if he's 65 years old, does he find a new team or does he just call it a
09:12wash and that's it?
09:13Like, what does he do?
09:15There are guys who are wondering about that because you are not closer.
09:19That's why it's not a positive day.
09:20I've got to get the quarterback.
09:21But you think he's not going to watch that fan that just called in as passionate as he was?
09:24You don't think he's going to watch if these young guys are looking really, really good?
09:28I don't know, Greg, personally.
09:29I live next to Hudson.
09:30I don't live in Hudson.
09:31And sometimes I travel through Hudson if I see Greg on the road.
09:34If I end up shaking his hand, I'll ask him.
09:37Maybe he'll – maybe all will be – maybe some will be forgotten by the time football season comes around
09:42and he might be back in.
09:43We'll see where it goes.
09:44Jared Vers is a fine player.
09:46You know, we could – he could still have a nice season.
09:50Rick in Cleveland Heights, you're next up on the fan.
09:52Hello, Rick.
09:53Good morning.
09:54Hi, Rick.
09:56So, I was thinking about would it just have made more sense to maybe make this draft – I mean,
10:01make this pick before June 1st and maybe get the 13th pick?
10:04I think I'll value that more than the, you know, first-round pick that we ended up getting.
10:09What do you mean by that, Rick?
10:10I'm sorry.
10:11I'm struggling following along on that one.
10:13Go ahead again.
10:13I just feel like the 13th pick for this draft that they just picked that the Rams had, we have
10:20just made the move before and had gotten that pick instead of –
10:22Do you think you would have gotten – do you think that pick would have been better than Verse?
10:27I mean, I would have preferred to have gotten maybe that and Verse or maybe, yes, that or Verse.
10:34Well, see, I want to ask that – well, Tom, I don't think that they were asking about players.
10:38Or, excuse me, I'm thinking of Tom Pellisero coming on at 820.
10:41Rick, I don't think that they're asking about players.
10:44This is what I want to ask Tom Pellisero, you know, exactly how far this was in works.
10:48Because remember, they asked the NFL for that five-year pick thing that was going on.
10:54So I'm going, were they trying to work out something with the Rams at that point?
10:57Because remember, did Sean McVay have – did he not have a comment about that Browns situation?
11:04I thought Sean McVay made a comment or Les Snead made a comment or, like, the Rams were, like, the
11:09only team that were willing to hear out the five-year plan that the Browns had brought up with the
11:14picks.
11:15Now, again, my memory is fuzzy.
11:17I've had a lot of bush light between –
11:18Thank you, all right.
11:18Okay.
11:18So it was – it was the GM was for the five-pick thing.
11:22Sean McVay was against it, yes.
11:24Les Snead was for it.
11:25Okay, so I want to know how far along this was in.
11:28Because that would have been before the league meetings.
11:29The league meetings were March?
11:31March?
11:32April?
11:33April?
11:34I'm trying to – it might have been April.
11:36Like, I'm trying to remember the timeline here, Rick.
11:38So –
11:38It was the same place where Todd Munkin missed the coach's picture because he got a haircut.
11:43Yes, I know where, but I wanted to know when.
11:47Thank you, Rick.
11:48Thank you for the call.
11:49About 1230.
11:50Is it a pretty sweet haircut?
11:53I know what happened in Dealey Plaza.
11:55I just need to know what year it was.
11:59John.
12:00Does it matter to anybody if just Miles didn't want to be here?
12:03Flat out didn't want to be here?
12:05I didn't think –
12:06Does that matter to –
12:07Did he want to be here the year before?
12:08To any of the callers that, you know, their calling has on the worst owner ever.
12:12Whatever.
12:13There's plenty of years in now, and I don't think most fans –
12:18they don't seem to want to chalk one up in the favorable ledger for the Dome.
12:23But with that said, what?
12:26Nothing.
12:26I'm listening to you.
12:27Do you think he cared –
12:27Like, that caller, do you think he cared about the Dome playing in a world-class facility?
12:30Do you think that caller seemed to care?
12:32No, I think that caller just wants to win.
12:33That's all.
12:34He doesn't care about a Dome.
12:35That's what I mean.
12:36Like, that –
12:37I could see if you're calling Jimmy Hazen, the worst owner ever.
12:41Or, but he's going to open up this brand new facility where you're going to be able to enjoy it
12:46year-round, whatever.
12:47Okay, that's in 2029.
12:49That guy cares.
12:49He's 65 years old.
12:50He cares about now.
12:51And I'm saying, he doesn't care about something like that.
12:53So, that's not going to be in the positive ledger.
12:56I got to tell you, people brought up that they're planning on the Dome or planning on this team being
12:59good in the Dome.
13:00They don't make me feel any better about it right now.
13:01I don't know if this is the time to have some great, big, existential conversation about the Browns' ownership.
13:06I totally get that.
13:06Does it matter to callers like that if behind the scenes, Miles was like, I don't want to be here.
13:13I'm not showing up to anything.
13:14Is that what you want, too?
13:16I mean, like, would you want to keep that player?
13:18I think if we found out that, it might make that man, Greg, feel a little bit better about it.
13:23If you're talking about the caller who said he's done, like, yeah, maybe that might make him feel a little
13:26bit better about it, but probably not.
13:28Because I think a lot of people, when you ask for a trade and then you go on Radio Row,
13:31we kind of know what you were here for in the first place.
13:33But when you turn in 23 sacks, I think we all agree with it that that's what happens.
13:37Again, this is where I draw the line where it's like it can't be this great day of a new
13:44direction of the Cleveland Browns because I think there's a lot of people who are just like, yeah, man, we're
13:50bad.
13:50But we got somebody who's real special.
13:52Now we're just one of the other bad teams.
13:53And until they find somebody who's good, they're going to hold them accountable to that.
13:57When I hear farm system for another team, I think that normally applies when you trade a guy like in
14:02year five.
14:03This has been nine years.
14:05You've had Miles for nine years.
14:06What is the expectation when you take a player of how many years you're going to – he owes you?
14:11Not anymore.
14:12I feel like nine is more than most.
14:14I think Rick's looking back on it as a formerly 56-year-old man and now a 65-year-old
14:19man going, where did the time go?
14:20Now you're looking at retirement dead in the face.
14:22You've had only two playoff appearances with this tremendous player.
14:26And it's not just –
14:27I get that part of it.
14:28It's not just Miles.
14:29You don't have the rights to him for life.
14:32No.
14:33I never feel that way.
14:34But I think we're within 24 hours of the trade.
14:36He's not going to feel great about the trade when you let a great player go who we all expect
14:41to be watching in Super Bowl – is it 61?
14:44Nah, lose count.
14:45Super Bowl 61 coming up in February.
14:47Like their odds went from 15 to 2 to 6 to 1 like the minute after the trade happened.
14:52So everybody thinks that this is going to be a team that hosts the Super Bowl and plays in it
14:56again coming up here in next February.
14:59So that's not going to make Greg feel any better.
15:01While we're sitting over here arguing on Mondays after a Browns loss and then on Tuesdays about who had a
15:07good Saturday,
15:09Miles Garrett's getting ready to go to the postseason.
15:11Miles Garrett's getting ready to go to the Super Bowl.
15:12While you and I are arguing about whether it should be Dante Moore or Lenore Sellers or Julian Sane or
15:18somebody else,
15:18Miles Garrett's doing all those things that we once envisioned with Miles Garrett.
15:23I guess maybe the difference is –
15:24He's going to be upset.
15:24I just assumed they weren't going to be good this year.
15:27And so I will have more excitement, to be honest, following the Saturdays.
15:33I thought they were always going to lose.
15:34Did that caller think they were going to win this year with Miles?
15:37I don't – I think that caller is upset and that he's upset because he's probably older than us
15:42and they're not any closer to winning.
15:44So now that Greg has to wait until he's 66, 67, 68.
15:47I think these are the moves, though, that do –
15:49I don't know what health Greg is in.
15:50I think these are the moves that you have to do to put yourself in position to be closer to
15:54win.
15:54Just keeping Miles Garrett.
15:56And then what happens if he injures his knee in week five?
15:59Then what do you have?
16:00Then you don't even have any value and you don't have the player.
