00:00did one of the reasons schwartz didn't get the head coaching job it was one of the reasons
00:05that the browns knew going into this offseason that they were going to be trading miles garrett
00:10because they realized they were farther away than they had previously thought
00:14and so it was like why would we hire miles if we're just going to turn around and trade yeah
00:19this guy which also then begs the question did todd munkin know about this in the in the interview
00:25process i i don't think it should have changed whether he took the job or not it's an nfl
00:29head coaching job take it when you can get it but those were two of the big things that as
00:34i was
00:34reading through it this morning uh they just kind of kind of percolated all morning long yeah no it's
00:40a good point like if you think about it there's no reason to hire jim schwartz if you know going
00:43into the offseason that miles the reason why you'd be giving him the job uh isn't going to be here
00:47and
00:47yeah i i did tuesday meetings that existed between miles and andrew barry and the like miles he knew
00:55where this whole thing was going he he saw and and i'm sure it had been really awkward for andrew
01:00barry to lay out everything and lay the cards on the table and be like so this is why 2028
01:05is when
01:05we're going to start being good at football meanwhile miles is sitting there in the prime of his career
01:09like oh and you wouldn't trade me last year i get just that so it was weird dynamic at play
01:14there
01:14yeah i also thought that was another kind of part of it is like uh watching it's weird to me
01:20that we
01:21all agreed miles was just not a good leader and wasn't a born leader and like people have pointed
01:25out how how little uh push there was from the from brown's players themselves to be like we're
01:32going to miss that guy in the meeting room right yeah um for then the browns to give him so
01:37much
01:37power like i know he had a certain amount of power because he's one of the biggest faces of the
01:42franchise you know for me those work in two different two different ideas right uh because if
01:47you're going back to your uh your your prevailing thought that basically miles only does things
01:51that benefits miles miles can look at this as basically being another member of the front office
01:55that gets him ready to then not only own different uh different teams and different sports when he's
02:00done also potentially get into like an ozzy newsome type role where he ends up in a a front office
02:05role
02:05with some team i'm not saying it's going to happen but you know how miles thinks about these type of
02:09things and you better stack him anything's on the table with miles but you could tell it was very
02:14self-serving the whole thing is self-serving if if miles becomes a gm you better litter the front
02:19office with guys he can throw in front of a bus when an off season doesn't go well is that
02:23right
02:23well he's gonna he's gonna be out for blood miles gary well why why else would you do this unless
02:27you just want to know more about the inner workings of it all and now's the time to do that
02:30i guess
02:31ego what no but that's that's kind of the prevailing thought of all this like you you why you'd want
02:36to sit down and basically be another front office member regularly in on roster building
02:42discussions free agency draft strategy organizational plans is because you want to see if you could do
02:48it yourself you want to know how hard it is you want to see the the inner workings of it
02:51all and
02:51so yeah it's it's all self-centered for sure i do think after miles showed up at uh let's check
02:57here
02:57voluntary otas after miles's press conference i know i wasn't the only person that thought his
03:03goodbye message to cleveland struck a very false tone uh i thought i think it's been very interesting i
03:09think the browns owe miles garrett like a gift basket or something because miles has done
03:14everything that he possibly can without probably even thinking about it to make browns fans go
03:20you know what bleep this guy i'm happy he's not here anymore really i just don't get that vibe right
03:25now and maybe i'm maybe i'm just not i don't know we talked to a lot of people all throughout
03:28the day i
03:28just him him showing up to voluntary otas with the rams really pissed people off and it did piss people
03:34off same here by the way same here we haven't had a chance really we talked about it last night
03:39late in the show we haven't had many callers or anything or get a chance to talk to too many
03:42callers on that that oddly enough i like the clip we put out last night for me and daryl talking
03:47about
03:47that uh went pretty viral and it's one of those things where it's like uh why is that one of
03:52the
03:53biggest clips of the week yeah like like that like to what you're speaking on like that being one of
03:56the bigger things that happened all week long from a social media perspective kind of speaks to that
04:01being something that did in fact piss fans off but leading up to that we hadn't seen too many
04:06people voice that well and listen i understand that it's different for miles in la because he
04:10thinks they can win a championship but one bad season and i'm sure the old miles will come right
04:16back you know what i mean like there's just such a part of this to me that it's like there
04:21is and i
04:21again like i would i would take miles back in a heartbeat if it meant i got to watch miles
04:27a football
04:28player uh do what miles does on the field this year i would i wouldn't think about it twice get
04:33why it had to be done from all sides of things feel like the browns fans really got jobbed in
04:38this
04:38but there is just an overwhelming sense of relief that just oh i don't have to deal with that crap
04:45anymore i don't because again like it really stinks when you can't just have a outwardly positive
04:52opinion of the best player on your team because and and you know that when you talk about that guy
04:59if you do you're being fake because it's a homer thing and you just want to be nice about him
05:04because
05:04he's good at football well you know what you're describing in some sense you're describing the
05:08time uh in this basically lebron in 2018 where lebron left and instead of people thinking to
05:15themselves and there was a lot of like oh thanks for the title obviously greatest uh greatest moment in
05:19my life all these type of different things that people said but there's a lot of people that are
05:23like i'm i'm happy that we don't have the headaches anymore i'm happy that we're gonna have to we can
05:28build this team up from the ground up we can we can go after this in another way and there's
05:32there's a
05:32lot of people that were just kind of there was a sense of relief attached to it and that that
05:36sense
05:36of relief for some fans it certainly exists for miles in the scenario yeah you felt that way with
05:41lebron yeah well i i felt the way of there was four years of never ending pressure and by the
05:47end of
05:47those four years it was getting to me like as a calves fan like every game uh in the in
05:53the
05:53postseason not in the regular season every game like had this heightened level and even when we
05:58talked about whether it was a kairi trade or future trades it just there was a seriousness there
06:03was a level to it but you wear it the way like presidents when they age in office where they
06:07just
06:07come out looking completely different you wear it that way you do it because this is what you want
06:11you want your lebron james and miles garrett's but there's a tax that comes with that now i wasn't
06:15necessarily excited about the idea of starting over after lebron left some people were oddly
06:20enough though some people were they're like can we do this can we build from the ground up while
06:24realizing most teams just stay portland for 20 years but that's either here nor there but i was
06:28thinking about this this weekend just talking about again how how brown's fans have reacted is and
06:32again it really is i think you start to saw i i think you started to see a swing in
06:38kind of how
06:39even in in just people in my family that i was talking to with the ota pictures of him in
06:45the
06:45rams uniform and showing up and a great big smile and all this stuff i was thinking about to like
06:51six months from now wait let me see here yeah about six months from now like december that sounds
06:57about right i believe that is six months from now so december 5th if you are a 500 team and
07:04so you
07:04don't even have to be like uh two games above 500 three games if you're just a competitive team
07:09right i'm gonna tell you right now there's gonna be people who say and in and i think in the
07:13media
07:14too that said oh trading miles was so good for the culture that it lessened the burden in berea to
07:21keep a sulking hulk upset or to keep him as happy as you possibly can and taking him out of
07:29the equation
07:29lighten the burden and allowed the browns to be the best versions of themselves this year
07:33and by the way that should probably be the right call in six months if that's where you are
07:39that you just felt like a basically a responsibility lifted is that the idea you can't tell me if this
07:44guy was was throwing his uh his his pity party at the dinosaur party or the press conference and
07:51any time anything happened you can't tell me these guys in that locker room didn't feel and even from
07:56an on-field perspective you also get to have a defense as great as the defense ended up being last
08:00year but you have a defense that can you know i don't know have people eat and get sacks instead
08:04of just making sure that miles always gets his yeah and and of course miles handled it about as
08:10but i i don't want to confuse the least amount of humility i don't want to confuse people in this
08:13because i feel like now i've took i've taken it down a confusing path for people just like lebron
08:17i would still put up with the taxing headaches and everything that accompanies that because he is
08:21that great but i understand i'm i might be in the minority when it comes to that type of discussion
08:26can you do can you be both by the way because that is where i am i would take miles
08:29back but if
08:31the trade-off is he's elsewhere and i get jared verse in the first a second and a third and
08:35i don't
08:36have to deal with it i can be a little relieved at that too it just feels like a glass
08:40half full
08:40approach which isn't the worst way to look in anything in life really where it's like i'm gonna
08:43i'm gonna find the silver lining out of this and the silver lining if you're really searching
08:47for an unquestionably getting worse for the time being on the defensive side of the ball
08:51is the idea that you don't have the headaches to come with it you don't have
08:54uh guys like schwesinger coming out and and because he doesn't want to say nice things
08:58about miles garrett would rather talk about a slice in his golf swing like you don't have
09:01those type of things because he's just gonna be gone we don't have to worry about the speeding
09:05tickets and nothing else the pushback here is people were criticizing miles the entire time
09:10he was here for these exact same things i just think it's painting a full picture is all it is
09:14and if you're going to talk about miles garrett there's a lot that comes with it beyond just
09:17the good play do i think there are some people coping sure sure that's to be expected when
09:23you like this idea that there's a perfect breakup that exists in sports those don't
09:28really happen right they just it's so rare that it happens so i think a fair amount of the
09:34criticisms i've heard of miles i think are fair doesn't mean you have to take them to mean it's
09:38not worth the experience to which is what you're saying but it is there is a lot that goes with
09:44having miles garrett on your roster i mean you're just trying to find the upside is all i think that's
09:47all browns fans are trying to do here it's amazing in i don't know that this is a cleveland
09:51exclusive thing but i think about lindore often where lindore was so beloved and so just everyone
09:57was behind him and then he goes to new york and it's just as if his playing career stopped you
10:01know as far as cleveland fans are concerned francisco lindore might as well not even play
10:04baseball in new york anymore right oh he's in new york yeah exactly and that's how people are
10:08gonna take this with miles as well in many respects if you're a star in this city and you go
10:12somewhere else your career might as well have just stopped
10:15you
