00:00I get what we got used to was different than normal but with Todd Munkin I didn't know we
00:05were getting a bunch of cliches and I I because I I've got no history of Todd Munkin being that
00:11and that's the part that is make me a little nervous today like if you're gonna cheat on
00:16your diet don't just eat a munchkin if you're gonna hire someone different maybe hire someone
00:21different and within a month and a half we now have a different version of Todd Munkin than the
00:26Todd Munkin I believe they hired when they first gave him the job I I am shocked it's like that
00:31uh
00:31the the Eminem music video with Slim Shady where they're just like on the conveyor belt the assembly
00:35line of different Slim Shadies like how did we get to a spot where Munkin is now acting and feeling
00:41like and I guess looking like with this haircut all 31 other head coaches in the league I I thought
00:46the hook on Munkin was that he was different I thought the hook on Munkin was that he sounded a
00:51little bit different straight shooter would get mad from time to time uh wouldn't be able to contain
00:56what exactly he was going to be able to say because he was just so honest about everything
01:02I I I didn't get that today I get it it's day one we're trying to get this whole thing
01:07set off in
01:08the right foot I understand it maybe he's going to make a good impression that's what he's going for
01:12this sounded like someone that was hanging out with Andrew Barry's crew a lot in the previous couple
01:17months this this was a different version of Munkin and I don't know that I love that necessarily
01:21the one thing that Munkin had going for himself is that he wasn't cookie cutter he wasn't like the
01:27other guys because if the Browns are ever going to have success although I'd love to have it be
01:32very traditional down the line let's be honest about it it's not going to be very traditional
01:36down the line to break whatever the Browns curse has been or whatever the Browns have been for the
01:41previous 25 years isn't going to be cookie cutter you're going to need someone that thinks a little
01:45bit different someone that acts a little bit different and somebody that after two months of
01:49hanging around with the Browns doesn't seem like he's going to start wearing quarter zips and uh and
01:54start going to all their different fancy gatherings you need somebody that just beats to their own drum
02:00and so there's a couple answers here that got me a little agitated and I want your guys input on
02:05this 216474 to below 92 uh because I I think Munkin showcased a lot of cliches today and a lot
02:12of
02:13basically nothing burger and uh I was not pleased with the outcome but one question and then answer
02:18in particular got me the question I think it was Jimmy Watkins cleveland.com he was asking about
02:23whether or not you can change the perception how do you change the perception of the Cleveland Browns
02:28and what currently exists and this is what Munkin had to say winning what changes everything right
02:34what changes the winning changes everything right I told the coaches that the other day right or playing
02:39well how does a player stop a narrative play well how do we stop a narrative on offense score
02:43how do you step a narrative of winning win it's pretty freaking simple right I mean is that not in
02:48life in general there is a narrative out there that you know you're not a good husband well change be
02:52a
02:52good husband right all that's part of it right change the narrative become that that's that's what we
02:58have to do it's real simple this answer wouldn't fly for me in a discussion with Nick across from
03:02me if we were hey how do you change the Browns perception winning winning cures all almost turned
03:07into Charlie Sheen there for a second well winning action uh but like that's not that that's not an
03:11answer that's not it's like if I watch these uh the TikTok videos uh where they're trying to give
03:17you financial advice if instead of trying to give me a roadmap to how to like be financially literate
03:23and uh you know grow all my stock markets and everything like that uh not my stock markets grow the
03:28stock market and invest properly is what I meant to say there uh but if like the advice at the
03:31end of
03:31this was simply something along the lines of like yeah you know in order to have more money
03:36you just got to pour more money into your bank account well that's not really great advice now
03:41is it hey hey be be a better husband that's all you're a crappy husband now just say you're going
03:46to be a good husband oh oh I didn't realize it was that simple oh you're a bad football team
03:50I guess
03:50the advice is just well we just got to win that's how you become a better football player just win
03:56I'd like a roadmap I instead of just clicking on to the to the the the video that shows me
04:02and says
04:02you can do it I'd like to see what your plan is I'd like to see what your roadmap to
04:07winning actually
04:07is that was a that was a worse cliche than anything I could possibly imagine if like Daryl Ryder is
04:13joining us at six o'clock okay I could see Daryl saying something like this honestly but like if
04:18Daryl comes on and says well yeah winning cures everything I just think you don't have a real answer
04:23I think that's just the laziest thing you can come up with that's not that you're not telling
04:27me anything new you're not giving me a plan and maybe it's because Munkin doesn't actually have
04:32a plan maybe this is part of it maybe we're in that stretch with Munkin the same way Myles Garrett
04:37so many uh one-off season ago had to tell everyone oh yeah they got a plan a quarterback you
04:42know
04:42they're gonna figure this out when in reality he knew they didn't have a plan they didn't know what
04:46they were gonna do maybe Munkin understands 2026 is just gonna be a lost year and 2026 unless he
04:53can fix Shador is gonna be some sort of problematic season and it just is what it is
04:58the reality is you can't give me that nonsense and then tell me that you think 2026 is gonna be
05:06something you can't give me what Munkin tried to spew out there yeah just just win winning cures
05:12everything that's all you need to do is just win while not giving me an actual plan and then let
05:17me
05:17think that you have any clue as to what's really gonna happen and how this is gonna go down
05:21two one six four seven four to below 92 is winning a good enough answer for how to change
05:26the perception I feel like people thought that he won the soundbite and uh all of a sudden was
05:31really really good in this press conference I was left feeling none of those things I was left
05:37thinking that uh hell at least with Stefanski we knew we weren't getting an answer you didn't have
05:41to dress it up and then try to make us seem stupid in the process telling us that winning is
05:45how you're
05:45going to get this thing done is not an answer that's telling us what you'd like to have happen
05:49that's not telling us how you're going to achieve that and how you're going to actually be able to
05:53cross that off and be able to get to the winning that we also desperately want
06:01only enviable thing about Munkin today is that he's a head coach in the NFL but he knows the same
06:07thing that Miles knew a year ago and he knows for 2026 there isn't a real plan with this football
06:12team
06:13and I think that's why he had to say what he had to say he's trying to make this seem
06:17better than it is
06:17and I think he's taking a longer approach which is admirable but for 2026 I just think you're
06:23writing checks that you can't cash here and so he decided not to he decided to stop at a cliche
06:28and just kind of go through the motions and make it what it is but anybody that expected Munkin to
06:33be a different version or something new like so many people living with this idea that Munkin was
06:38going to make all these press conferences dynamic well welcome to the first one the legitimate first one
06:44that you got to hear where you're actually talking real football and trying to get to real results
06:49and everything and I thought he failed it in a big time way I I thought it was a cliches
06:54I thought it
06:55was just non-answers and I just didn't love any bit of it all right one more thing to get
07:00you guys
07:01upset here with Todd Munkin uh I saw way too many people online saying all right he answered what
07:10he thought about Miles Garrett not being there I'll give you his answer and then I want to clarify here
07:14we go we all know that the the offseason's voluntary I mean it is so first of all there's nothing
07:20like
07:20being around the players it's everything we do is the development of players that's that's how we get
07:25to where we're at in the coaching profession so it's awesome being around it but it is our job
07:30to put together an offseason program that makes them want to be here from a development standpoint
07:36from a connection standpoint from a schematic standpoint for them to want to be here that's
07:40our job as an organization as a coaching staff that they get something here that they couldn't get
07:44anywhere else could they get stronger somewhere else yes could they get faster somewhere else I guess
07:48can they get connected with their team no with their coaches no absolutely not can they get what
07:53we're doing schematically absolutely not but we understand that that it is voluntary but I was
07:58fired up at the guys that were here it was it was a great start I just don't know how
08:02you hear that
08:02answer and think to yourself like okay he let Miles off the hook and now he's gonna again later on
08:06in
08:06the interview he was asked about Miles specifically and he said he's not worried about Miles not being
08:10here I get that but listen to what that answer was and the value that he seems to think exists
08:16in
08:16Miles Garrett uh attending or basically anybody attending what this little phase one session is it's about
08:22being with the other players it's about showcasing what you need to do in order to have success this
08:27is the part of the the Miles conversation that I just I I wasn't able to get a hundred percent
08:32on
08:32board with when we had it yesterday I brought up the idea that Lamar Jackson is in Baltimore and he's
08:38getting a lot of work in and he's there day one because you have Declan Doyle you have a new
08:42head
08:42coach you have like new pieces new head coach new offensive coordinator there's newness for Lamar in
08:48Baltimore so he felt like he had to be there there's newness here for Miles as well but the part
08:53that I think Miles is missing out on is how you can lead from the front in many ways by
08:58just being
08:59around the team and I actually I thought Munkin hit on it and in discussing what the value is of
09:05being
09:06in phase one and around phase one even though it's voluntary and that being the idea that you get to
09:11be
09:12around your your teammates you get to be around these other players and you get to show some of the
09:15younger players what it takes to actually lead and what it takes to actually do the work that is
09:19involved in the getting you to be where you are it is not about Miles Garrett and whether or not
09:24he's
09:24going to get to 25 sacks next year he'll do that regardless it was about everybody else we all know
09:29that the offseason's voluntary I mean it is so first of all there's nothing like being around the players
09:35it's everything we do is the development of players that's that's how we get to where we're at
09:40in the coaching profession so it's awesome being around it but it is our job to put together an
09:46offseason program that makes them want to be here from a development standpoint from a connection
09:51standpoint from a schematic standpoint for them to want to be here that's our job as an organization
09:55as a coaching staff that they get something here that they couldn't get anywhere else could they get
09:59stronger somewhere else yes could they get faster somewhere else I guess can they get connected with
10:03their team no with their coaches no absolutely not can they get what we're doing schematically
10:08absolutely not but we understand that that it is voluntary but I was fired up at the guys that
10:13were here it was a great start that was Browns head coach Todd Munkin uh in a way that I
10:18think
10:19is just subtly calling out Miles Garrett I I don't have a delicate way to put that I just think
10:24that's
10:24how that is like who else could he possibly be talking about all three quarterbacks are there in
10:29attendance Deshaun made it Gabriel made it obviously Shador lives here so he's going to make it like
10:34everyone that you would think had to make it had to be there was there all things considered and
10:40uh Miles wasn't and I was I didn't make a big deal about it yesterday and I'm not going to
10:44make a big
10:44deal about it today I do find it interesting that in one of the few things that Munkin actually said
10:50today he made a point to talk about the elephant in the room and listen Miles himself he addressed we'll
10:59get to that audio in a couple seconds I promise you but I do think the idea that this is
11:03in the
11:03opening portion of his press conference and talking about how it's on them they it's their job to put
11:08together an offseason program that makes players want to be here are you acknowledging that you
11:13didn't do an appetizing enough job to get Miles to make sure he wants to be there or are you
11:19just
11:19acknowledging the idea that there's a lot of things that Miles can benefit from but the team as a
11:23whole can benefit from if Miles is there I think we've become very comfortable with the idea that
11:30these voluntary workouts just don't make a difference at all for the entirety of the team and I just don't
11:35think that's true yeah do I think Miles isn't all of a sudden going to be any different as far
11:41as a
11:41production standpoint next year based off of what happens in April workouts that are uh basically not
11:48even real workouts and then also sitting in a in a conference room watching tape Miles is going to get
11:53his
11:53it's not about Miles though like the part that we've been trying to stress in this discussion the
11:58entire time is that it's not about Miles it's about Miles impact on other people I I watched that YouTube
12:05video with LeBron James uh the one the Bob does sports one that we talked about last week that's the
12:10one where he made those comments about Memphis and I watched the whole thing well first off LeBron you
12:16don't need to curse just to curse unnecessary like Mac it's like your level of unnecessary cursing
12:21that's what LeBron was doing so in that way you and LeBron basically the same person you know what
12:27I'll take that basically the same same guy basically can't tell a difference not not one little bit uh
12:32but one thing that LeBron did say and listen I understand he's talking about his son here but I
12:37think this trickles down in many ways in talking about Bronny he's like the reason why I show up and
12:41I do as much as I do is because I want to make sure Bronny sees it I want to
12:44make sure Bronny he can see
12:46with his own two eyes this is what it takes to be an NBA player and so by going to
12:50the workouts when he
12:51does by by doing everything with his body the way that he does every action that he does with the
12:56Lakers and this is all like his way of telling it is done with the idea that he's teaching Bronny
13:01how
13:01to be an NBA player and he's teaching Bronny through Bronny just observing the world around him
13:07that this is what it takes and this is what is necessary obviously you don't have to have a father
13:12son combination to make this pay off all you need is the idea that Miles Garrett just existing in these
13:18rooms and existing in these workouts and existing uh around the Browns and around Berea is going to
13:24have a big effect on a lot of players like Mason Graham in the one year that he's been around
13:30Miles
13:31probably learned a lot about what it takes to go ahead and try to be someone as great as Miles
13:36Garrett I'm going to just go ahead and say I think there's value attached to it and as much time
13:41as you
13:41can have around Miles seems to be the better now Munkin can't force these guys to be here
13:46it's voluntary and this is where I fall short and say if Miles doesn't want to be here it's not
13:50Miles job to make sure that everybody on the Browns looks better and is their very best like that's
13:57where the the father-son thing kind of falls apart here because it's not Miles responsibility to make
14:02sure that Mason Graham has an awesome NFL career but you can see how it it does cut Munkin short
14:08and
14:09obviously then there's the other side of that too with Munkin and what's attached to Munkin and the
14:12idea that he's not had a public endorsement from Miles Garrett yet we have not yet heard Miles
14:17Garrett speak on behalf of the new head coach of the Browns and saying one way or another that he's
14:23pleased we've seen an Instagram story suggesting that he's not pleased but we haven't seen him
14:27himself come out and say I'm happy with this let's get this thing going I'm excited to be here and
14:33maybe
14:34it's because he's not actually excited to be here I'm not sure time will tell we haven't heard that
14:38from Miles Miles showing up would have been an endorsement in a way that just doesn't exist right
14:45now that's it's it's just a shame is all it is and I get it it's not his job to
14:50make sure that he
14:51endorses every head coach that comes in if this company here if they hire a new big boss for myself
14:57I don't have to like the guy I don't have to think the guy's even any good at his job
15:02I the only
15:03responsibility I have in that regard is to make sure I keep my mouth shut if that's the truth but
15:07I don't
15:08have any responsibility to anything but I think it showcases itself and I think it I think it's a
15:12trickle down and I think people get the vibe on that two one six four seven four to below 92
15:16so
15:17this was what Munkin said when asked directly about Miles Garrett this is him talking about it here we
15:21go as I've said before this is voluntary for our players to be here I think if you asked every
15:26coach
15:27in the NFL would they like every player to be there that of course I think there's certain parts of
15:31what
15:31we do from a connection standpoint you know that I think is important to be here from a schematic
15:36standpoint from a work standpoint not so much and it is our job to make it to where the guys
15:41want
15:41to be here I mean not just by the job but by their development by the camaraderie being part of
15:46a team
15:46I mean hell I've been part of a team since I've been five years old there's nothing like it I
15:50wouldn't
15:50miss it because that's me that's how I'm wired but it is voluntary Miles will be ready I'm not worried
15:55about Miles that almost makes it sound like he's he feels like he's wired differently than Miles in that
15:59respect he's like I wouldn't miss it I but that's just how I'm wired like that's
16:04Mack that almost makes it seem like he's he's just he's trying to make it seem like he works
16:08harder than Miles well and it almost comes off like the the move that you would try to say where
16:14you're trying to be nice to somebody but you're really making a point where it's just I mean I
16:18that's a crazy move I mean it wouldn't be me but that's you can do that it wouldn't that's just
16:23not
16:23me though but I mean hey you can do that it's all you that you can do that if you
16:26want I mean he's
16:27clearly pissed I I don't know what other way to interpret it and and for somebody that really
16:33went against what Munkin did in this press conference earlier uh last segment uh he at
16:38least is showing his cards in this respect when it came to Miles you have to read between the lines
16:42though and I think this is what made this hard because I think so many people online were quick
16:45to be like well I guess that's the end of the story doesn't really care about Miles being there
16:51no like listen to what he had to say listen to it in the full context listen to how he
16:55talked
16:55about the players that aren't there and then later on when asked about Miles specifically
16:59listen to how he talked that sounds like somebody that's a little pissed that Miles isn't there and
17:05I understand why he would be I think we look at this from Miles side of things often and again
17:10Miles
17:10has earned the right to not show up it's voluntary but think about it if you are Todd Munkin and
17:14think
17:15about the idea that you're trying to get one of your superstar players to buy in and like half of
17:19your job
17:20this offseason is to make sure that everything goes right when it comes to the defensive
17:25side of the ball with a brand new DC you tell me Rutenberg wouldn't be thrilled with the idea
17:30that Miles Garrett is in attendance willing to help out willing to give the extra hand to anybody that
17:35needed it willing to I don't know help out with the playbook help out with the workouts here and
17:39there and just kind of be around in that LeBron way that I discussed where just your greatness
17:44just drips off of you and other people can see how you work and other people can see what you
17:48do
17:48and I get it Miles has a lot of these guys out in different parts of the country at different
17:52times
17:53of the offseason and they work out individually but this is in a team setting that that is a
17:58little bit different this is like the organization attached to this matters and it's a part of this
18:03discussion and so I I'm not mad at Miles I need to stress that for like the millionth time I'm
18:09not
18:09mad at Miles you've earned it you can do whatever you want to do but when people go that extra
18:14mile
18:15and they try to ask well what's the difference why is it that Miles isn't perceived as some great
18:19leader why is it that Miles isn't perceived as some all-time uh like you like I brought this up
18:27with Max Crosby once how Max Crosby has won the the Raiders version of being a leader like five
18:32straight years in a row and obviously Max Crosby almost got dealt this offseason and now he's back
18:36in Las Vegas it's a little weird but when people talk about Max Crosby they talk about more than just
18:41the idea that he gets a lot of total pressures they talk about more than his sack numbers they talk
18:45about
18:45what a what a complete teammate he is and what a complete selfless player he is we don't have those
18:52discussions with Miles when we talk about Miles and we talk about Miles whether this is uh going to be
18:57in the Hall of Fame when this is just around the Browns in general like when I go on other
19:01radio shows
19:01across the country I can talk about his total pressures I can talk about him breaking the sack
19:06record there's a lot of really positive awesome things I can talk about when it comes to Miles Garrett
19:11I don't ever say leader I those words just don't come up and so I I've I've given up on
19:17that fight
19:17that's been a long-standing fight we've given up on I don't ask him to be that but this is
19:22another
19:22example and because of Lamar and what he's been able to do in a new head coach new offensive coordinator
19:27situation you'd wondered if this would have bled over to Miles understanding a new situation
19:33if Miles thinks 2026 is shot and you're not going to win anything to begin with you're not going to
19:38a stuffed teddy bear in 2026 I understand him not spending any more of his precious free time
19:43uh coming down to Berea but he's got to understand that when Munkin makes a comment like this it is
19:49at least warranted in some respect it's warranted to be able to to highlight the idea that Miles isn't
19:55there and Miles you know doesn't have to be there that's not the law but also that's not how I'm
20:00wired
20:00it's like it's understandable you get to make the little jabs I don't know that it's the best way to
20:05start off this relationship but maybe Munkin looks at it like I don't really have to care anyway
20:10I'm trying to focus on the guys that are here and I'm going to try to focus on everyone that
20:13can
20:13actually make this team better in the moment 216474 0092 on Twitter there you can find me I am at
20:19Jay Peterlin Twitter reactions brought to you by our friends over there at Scheiben Jewelers
20:23Cleveland's premier jewelry store did Munkin take a shot at Miles without saying Miles name
20:32I don't know how we can look at it any other way is it the biggest deal of course not
20:36but it is
20:37probably the biggest thing to come out of this press conference all things considered
20:41you
