00:16You got to change kind of your philosophy because at some point, teams do catch you.
00:21And last year, the Chiefs were caught.
00:23They had six wins.

00:24Teams got better.
00:25Defensive backs are now drafted to stop the Chiefs.
00:28It's what other teams are doing, looking at defensive backs.
00:30We got to figure out a way to get to the quarterback in this.
00:32And don't forget, when the Chiefs won those back-to-back, they were number two in the NFL in sacks
00:36both those years.
00:37Yeah, got to get to the quarterback.
00:38They were 18th when they got destroyed by Philadelphia and went back.
00:41You got to get there.
00:41But teams are catching them with the wide receivers.
00:43You have to constantly get better.
00:44If your quarterback's coming off a major injury, if he's now 30 years old or beyond, you give him the
00:49talent.
00:49You don't want to sit there when he's retired in 10 years.
00:52He goes, well, he had Canarias and Juju and these guys.
00:55Well, who else did he have?
00:56Did he have a Jamar Chase?
00:58Did he have a Justin Jefferson type?
00:59Did he have a Jerry Rice to go with Joe Montana?
01:02Did he have a Reggie Wayne to go with a Peyton Manning?
01:05Did he have quality receivers to go with this elite quarterback that he had?
01:09Because this is a once-in-a-lifetime thing is having a quarterback like this.

01:13But you constantly got to get better.
01:14Your best part of your team is your quarterback.
01:16The wide receivers have been neglected.
01:18Say what you want, but just throwing one dart at a wide receiver every year.
01:21And whether they work out or not, like Sky Moore didn't work out.
01:23Where C. Rice did his rookie year.
01:24Yeah.
01:25Because if you're where they did his rookie year, not great, but you're not taking two
01:28and three chances.
01:29Everybody wanted Juwan Jennings.
01:30That was a seventh-round pick by the Niners.
01:32So they threw more than one dart at wide receiver, and they ended up with the guy in the seventh
01:36round that's a quality starter in the NFL that teams coveted.
01:40Maybe not the price he first wanted, the first wave of free agency.
01:42But eventually, this is what happens.
01:44When the Chiefs have chose, we're going to throw one dart at receiver, and you've got an elite
01:47quarterback.
01:48Yes, you've won that way.
01:49It's not the way you're always going to win that way.
01:51When teams are kind of catching up to you, you constantly got to get better.
01:54It's been an interesting position for the Chiefs, much like for the Royals with the power hitting
01:58at corner outfielder that we've never been able to find.
02:00Or when we do find them, we play them part-time because we don't let them hit against lefties,
02:04right?
02:04So you've got those except for last night.
02:07Wow.
02:08And so you have that situation with the Chiefs.
02:11They've never been able to find a wide receiver.
02:13They had Tyreek Hill, obviously.
02:14And it was the right move at that time to remove him from this organization and send him on his
02:18way and wanted to make the money they weren't going to pay him.
02:20But that's been going on now since 22, and they've really not invested, if you will,
02:25into that position.
02:26Yes, they've taken chances in the draft, but it doesn't appear they're going to re-sign
02:30Rasheed Rice to anything.
02:31So they're going to be at this spot next year where they're going to need more of these
02:34wide receivers.
02:35Why not let's go out there and make this big splash, Jay?
02:38And here's what I'm thinking right now.
02:39You need to go out there and make a big splash at the wide receiver spot.
02:43And we're looking at all these free agents that are potentially out there right now.
02:46I don't want anything to do with Tyreek Hill.
02:48Now, especially with Rasheed Rice down.
02:50I need somebody that's going to come in here and play right away.
02:52Debo Samuel's a free agent, I think, right now.
02:55Keenan Allen, who you wanted like a year ago.
02:58Debo at 23, fine.
02:59Yeah, Debo at now.
03:00No, you need somebody that's going to come in here.
03:03This is where Brett Veach needs to take over this league and say, you know what?
03:06We're making this big-time trade.
03:08Whether it's George Pickens or A.J. Brown, we are actually going to go out there and invest
03:13in a legitimate wide receiver because not only is Rasheed Rice now coming off the books
03:17next year, but so is Travis Kelsey coming off the books next year.
03:20And so, as of right now, where we sit based on where this roster is, you're going in the
03:25next season with Xavier Worthy and Taequann Thornton, potentially, as your wide receivers.
03:30That's not good enough in this day and age of the NFL.
03:32With Kelsey leading the team in yardage with like 850.
03:34You haven't had a 900-yard receiver in a couple years.
03:36They haven't won the Super Bowl in a couple years either.
03:38So, what we need to do now is really, truly kind of change the line of thinking with this.
03:43And I think they will because you get to a certain point where your hand gets forced.
03:47And they're going to need to start investing more into that wide receiver position.
03:50It's become a bigger position in the NFL.
03:52And we have shown now that Patrick Mahomes coming off the injury, 30 years old, he's going
03:58to need some of those younger weapons around him, especially now, even if Rice plays all
04:03year.
04:03Who knows what he's going to do?
04:04I have no confidence in him at this point.
04:06But I think right now, just take out this year, going into next year, now, what are
04:11you going to do with that wide receiver spot?
04:13Are you going to try to draft the guy when you're picking in the 20s or 30s again because
04:16you're back in the playoffs?
04:17So, I think this organization needs to be bold and go out there and make one of those
04:22shrewd Brett Veach moves that nobody saw coming and be in the conversations with A.J.
04:26Brown and George Pickens.
04:27I know the financials are probably not going to be there right now, but this is where Clark Hunt
04:32has to say, you know what?
04:33I got a new stadium coming on in four years.
04:35We're investing a lot of money into that, but I've got to invest in this position right
04:38now.
04:39He needs to give Brett Veach the blessing to go out there and get either A.J.
04:44Brown or George Pickens and make that big move because it's not only going to help them
04:47now, it's going to help them moving forward as well.
04:50It's later in the process, but I've always said like an Orlando Brown type trade because
04:54they went into the draft that year with Orlando Brown.
04:56They didn't like anybody to play left tackle and they were 100% right because those guys all
05:00got moved to guard or right tackle or rather out of the league and they needed a left tackle
05:05and luckily Baltimore answered their phone call, which was great because the Chiefs these
05:10love Orlando Brown or hate them.
05:11They brought in Orlando Brown because they needed a left tackle.
05:14That was a certifiable NFL player, right?
05:16And they brought one in and they want to ring with it, right?
05:19But that's what they had to do.
05:20They had to go outside the box with another team and make that move and they got picked
05:2458 with the two returning Nick Bolton.
05:26So they made a move with a rival, which is really weird.
05:29And yeah, thanks to Baltimore and Buffalo that have helped the Chiefs, believe it or
05:32not.
05:33Correct.
05:33They have those two teams have built them up, but yes, I'm with you on receiver because
05:37if you're not going to develop them, it's been the one abyss with this team.
05:41It really has been with this organization as it currently it's been like with the Royals.
05:46It's not just now with the outfielders, you know, stinking.
05:49It's been a, it's been a pandemic that they've had for their whole history.
05:52You look at the pro football hall of fame, it's littered with linebackers with the Kansas
05:55city chiefs.
05:56They've always been good at linebacker linebacker.
05:58They've been good at running back.
05:59They've been good at tight end, you know, Gonzalez to Travis skills.
06:02They've been good at the one position.
06:03No, he's a wide receiver.
06:05Never been good.
06:05Otis Taylor was good.
06:06Eddie Kennison came in and it was good for you.
06:08Tyree kill obviously played good with you, but it is been an abyss for this organization.
06:13And now you have that elite quarterback, but a quarterback was an abyss as well.

06:17Lynn Dawson and Patrick Mahomes.

06:19You had an Alex Smith and guys like that, but you had a lot of the,
06:22Tyler Thigpins and Bill Kenney's and, and guys like Bertie Croiles in between, you know,
06:27the, the Dawson homes years when you actually won.

06:30I know Alex Smith was fine, but Patrick Mahomes different.
06:33He's won 17 playoff games.

06:35It is much different, but it was an abyss.
06:38They hit the quarterback, which is the hardest position in sports to get.

06:43That is something in whether that's getting a proven guy that's been in the NFL.

06:48You're doing somebody else's work that went out and developed this guy, scouted this guy.

06:57Cause they certainly did it with Orlando Brown.

07:15And with Rossini out of the mix, the Eagles will answer the phone call on AJ Brown too.
07:19You know, if AJ Brown really wanted to play for Vrabel, you can't a hundred percent guarantee
07:24that's going to go smoothly.

07:27Now you're looking, if you're AJ Brown and maybe you did want to play with Mike Vrabel,

07:31Maybe that was now all of a sudden, Hey, wait a minute.

07:44Who you, who knows how long he's going to be around.
07:47They made a trade during the draft.

07:52They realized, okay, we don't have this guy in the draft.
07:55We need to go make him.
07:55They made a move during the draft for defensive help.
07:58I mean, again, everything's on the table.
08:01You have to be probably at this point, get an established wide receiver because it wasn't
08:05in the draft.
08:06You can't, you can't go back to the draft now.
08:08I mean, there's really no resources out there.
08:10And the first wave of free agency is done.
08:11Not that you wanted to pierce anyway.

08:13But the second wave of free agency is done now.
08:15So you're, you're, you're dealing with Tyreek Hill, who I don't think many people are really
08:18hot on coming here to Kansas city, quite honestly, but he's not going to be ready to play.
08:23And so he's not the right fit for this organization right now.
08:26Maybe there's a guy that you can go get in, in Debo Samuel, but he's old Keenan Allen's old.
08:32The guys that are available out there right now, just don't jump off the page, but when
08:37you're desperate, and I think the chiefs are desperate at the wide receiver position, right?
08:41Desperate times call for desperate measures.
08:44And for me, it's not about signing any of those guys.
08:47Go make that trade for George Pickens and say, you know what?
08:50We've tried to get this wide receiver position, right?
08:53We haven't been able to, we've got a young guy down there who's unhappy with his contract,
08:58phenomenal football player, Jerry and Clark are neighbors over there on, on Preston Boulevard.
09:04They can have a cocktail over the fence and decide how to work this trade out.
09:08I think George Pickens is the right answer for this team, but it's going to take the chiefs to
09:12be bold and to go out there and say, yeah, we didn't want to spend this year on this,
09:17but we have no choice now where she rice tied our hands.
09:21And they've shown exactly this philosophy.
09:24The previous couple of years is last year.
09:26You knew there were, she rice, they knew where she rice is going to be suspended.
