00:00Let's pivot to the Royals a little bit more,
00:01and we focused already earlier in the show
00:03talking about this base running and everything,
00:05but you think that they're at a crucial point
00:07in determining the belief, really,
00:10in their own roster, frankly,
00:11and what that would tell you about a future move
00:13that they can make.
00:14This is pretty simple.
00:15This is the earliest I have certainly ever called for this,
00:18and this shows history, but there's a reason why.
00:22If the Royals are serious about winning
00:23and they think that this is a playoff team
00:25hidden somehow behind, mired at 20 and 29,
00:29stuck in the rut,
00:30and they want to still win this year,
00:33as in they are still serious about winning this year,
00:35they have to trade for a right-handed bat
00:37by the end of the week.
00:38You don't get to wait the normal amount of time.
00:41You have to make that move now,
00:42and I'm not saying they have to make the move.
00:44They can just settle into mediocrity
00:46and decide this ain't the year,
00:48and we'll save ourselves for next year,
00:50and we'll trade away the pieces we can
00:51at the trade deadline, or just pray,
00:54and, well, we don't really believe in this team.
00:56We'll just hope that they play better
00:58and they play themselves into contention.
00:59If they're serious about it,
01:00they should trade for a right-hand outfielder today.
01:03It doesn't have to be a level of Mike Trout,
01:07even though I had asked for that at some point last year.
01:09It could be something...
01:11Nobody's taking on the Trout contract still.
01:12No, no, no.
01:13It could be something small,
01:14like a player who hasn't performed as well for the Angels,
01:16like Joe Adele.
01:17It could be, in my opinion, Jake Myers from the Astros.
01:20You need a right-handed hitter in your outfield,
01:26and you can chip away one of your left-handed hitters
01:28if you want to take a big risk,
01:30or you can trade away some of the minor leaguers
01:33you have in the system.
01:34You cannot continue to operate
01:36with no righties in your lineup forever
01:38if you are serious about winning.
01:40They cannot beat a lefty.
01:42They lost to another one last night.
01:43They got another one tonight.
01:44They have two wins on the season
01:46against a left-handed starting pitcher.
01:48It is their fatal flaw,
01:50more than any other...
01:52The number one problem is obviously
01:53Salve and Vinny not hitting in the middle of the order,
01:55but I would argue number two is
01:56they can't win against a lefty.
01:58You can't go an entire major league season
02:00not winning against a lefty
02:01if you really do think this team can still make a playoffs,
02:04and I don't, but maybe they do,
02:06and if they do, they should trade for one this week,
02:08not wait.
02:09Can't wait.
02:10I haven't seen enough to warrant me
02:12wanting to go give up an asset.
02:14This team right now has to show me
02:17that they're capable of stringing wins together,
02:19and they're not.
02:20Not this group.
02:21Not with these current injuries on top of it.
02:23Not with the continued base running mistakes
02:25when even one of your core pieces,
02:28Michael Garcia, last night,
02:29I don't know what the hell he was doing
02:30trying to go to second base.
02:31Mental errors.
02:32You got your third base coach making mistakes.
02:35There's way too much wrong with this team right now
02:37for me to want to give up an asset of the future
02:39to try to spark something for this year's team.
02:41No, I'll be interested in trade.
02:43If you tell me this team can rattle off
02:44winning eight of another eight of 10
02:46or something like that again,
02:47we can have a conversation.
02:48This team's nine games under 500.
02:50I don't want to.
02:51They need to help them out.
02:52Well, then they're not a good enough team.
02:53Sorry.
02:53And that's fine.
02:54You can decide that.
02:55That I don't have a problem with.
02:56I don't want them giving up assets
02:58for the hope that maybe it helps them
03:00just barely creep towards 500 again.
03:02No.
03:03This group that they have has to prove
03:04that they can get to 500.
03:06Then we can talk about acquiring somebody.
03:08I don't want them digging deeper into this season.
03:10Absolutely not.
03:11Yeah, I just like, I, I understand the argument of don't do it right.
03:17I'm not.
03:17That's not even the statement I'm making in the sense that like you,
03:21your logic makes plenty of sense.
03:24Gold.
03:24There's nothing wrong with it.
03:26What I'm saying is that if JJ and all these other front office guys sit in a meeting
03:29and they say, no, this team has too much talent.
03:32This team can still make the playoffs despite the fact that I don't know,
03:35eight games back in the division or whatever it is now.
03:37Like, no, we can still make the playoffs.
03:39I believe in this team, I believe in this unit,
03:41and there's no reason that we can't just turn it around tomorrow.
03:43Well, then tomorrow has to come with a move.
03:45Now, you don't have the help at the moment to crawl yourself out of this hole
03:51unless you add someone in the bullpen, a right field, outfield bat, or both.
03:56Also, what's the, I know you mentioned some names, but because of how jumbled,
04:00because of how jumbled the AL is, I don't know if anybody's really trading speed.
04:04I understand the guardians made a single trade and got Patrick Bailey,
04:07but I don't know if teams are making those trades, but I just think it'd be foolish.
04:10I mentioned bad teams for a reason, right?
04:12I don't think, I don't think you're getting anybody off of Minnesota today,
04:15although they traded a couple of years ago when they thought they were winning.
04:17I mentioned the two teams, the Angels and the Astros.
04:20I mentioned players off of theirs team.
04:21You know why?
04:22They're the only teams with a worse record than the Royals in the American League.
04:26Yeah.
04:26And look, the Tigers are in a similar spot.
04:28The Tigers, who haven't been paying attention, also stink out loud.
04:31They are 20 and 29.
04:33Now, look, they lost Scooble.
04:34They got some decent excuses for why things fell apart in a hurry, but they, they're, you
04:39know, they're also, they're the same record as the Royals.
04:43Yeah.
04:43They're, they're in a bad way.
04:45And so if you are serious about, we have the pieces in place, it is there.
04:50I'd like, cause like, that's the part that's still, I think, you know, and I was texting
04:52my cousin of mine last night.
04:54It's still, I think that bothers me the most about this team is I do not think they're talentless.
04:58And so you're like, why do you make so many mistakes?
05:00They do everything wrong in the little things right now.
05:04They never get a runner home from third with less than two outs.
05:06They make base running mistakes.
05:07They make errors.
05:08They just constantly kick the ball around and do things that make no sense.
05:12Bobby is great.
05:12Bobby is great at anything.
05:13He essentially makes no mistakes.
05:15He's a plus runner.
05:16He's a plus fielder.
05:17He's a plus hitter.
05:18He's all those things.
05:19And that's the part that would tempt me gold is that I got Bobby with junior and I only get
05:23it for so many years.
05:25And it's like having more homes, not at the end of his career.
05:28Cause Bobby's in the very young part of his career, but how many years do I get?
05:31Am I going to waste the years I got with Bobby or do I just like keep swinging for the
05:34fences
05:34while I got the guy and try to actually put a team around him that deserves to win.
05:39That's the part that would become tempting for me.
05:41And that's where like, I don't think the standings matter, but at least you can like look at a standing
05:45and say, I don't know, maybe we're, if we were that far back in August, maybe we'd be in it.
05:51So do we talk ourselves into it?
05:52I'm just saying if they think they're serious about winning this year, they have to make
05:55a deal.
05:55How?
05:55How can they not?
05:56Were they just going to hope?
05:57Hoping has not gotten them very far this year.
05:59I'll say they made a lineup change yesterday.
06:01They did for one game, two games.
06:03Who knows?
06:03It comes out later.
06:04We'll find out today.
06:05Yeah, they did.
06:05They, they move any down to the order.
06:07They move Cags.
06:08They also had Carter.
06:08They had Cags, Jensen and Vinny all in the order.
06:10And they had them above, above Vinny in that spot.
06:13That's something we hadn't seen so far this year.
06:15Somebody says we're not getting Joe Adele for anything we have.
06:17I don't know.
06:18I mean, he's underperformed again.
06:20Like, I'm buying low on him.
06:22Like, I don't.
06:24Is he some superstar?
06:25That's not an acquirable player.
06:27He's 27 years old.
06:28He's hitting 250 with a 296 on base percentage.
06:30He's not acquirable.
06:31The Angels stink.
06:33I mean, I, you know, like, I got to be honest.
06:35I think they got a number of prospects to get a Joe Adele done.
06:38And I'm not saying it even solves their problem.
06:39He'd be in a straight platoon.
06:41Righties versus lefties.
06:42But at least they'd have a qualified bet.
06:44Because right now, here's the problem.
06:46This is why they can't beat a lefty.
06:46When they face a lefty, they either have to choose to just be like, screw it.
06:50We'll put three left-handers in today.
06:52And we'll hope that Carter Jensen, Vinny Pasquantino, and Jack Caglione get the job done.
06:56Yesterday, they didn't.
06:57Or they have to go to the all-righty lineup.
06:59And all of a sudden, it's a lineup of 76-year-old Starling Marte, Nick Lofton.
07:04And it gets real jumbled.
07:06And it's like, these aren't everyday players.
07:09You got to do something else.
07:11Like, you just got to, you know, like, if you're going to try, try, I guess is my point.
07:15I just think this, I get what you're saying.
07:17I get what you're saying.
07:17But if you're going to try, try.
07:18I get what you're saying.
07:19But this group, as is, has to prove that there is some fight there.
07:23And that they are capable of stringing some wins together.
07:25Then I will go as a front office and support you and go in and trade somebody.
07:30Why would I do it now?
07:31I'm going to go make a trade to maybe get them to a point where they.
07:34Because I think the clock's ticking and the time might be up.
07:36That they might not have time to prove it to you because they're too far in the hole.
07:39Yeah, but chasing, this is like, you know, we talk about gambling.
07:42Chasing your losses seems like a terrible strategy as well.
07:45Oh, I'm not even claiming it's necessarily the smartest approach.
07:49It is the approach of saying, you look at your team in the mirror and you say, this has talent.
07:53I know they have talent.
07:54They just need something to, like, drag them out of this.
07:58And maybe it's it.
07:59I don't, I don't even blame you to be, like, to say, I'm just saying, if you, if you're serious
08:03about winning, I would make a very.
08:05And also not to mention, I get the whole right-handed bat thing.
08:07But, like, Joe O'Dell, like, yeah, Joe O'Dell's gonna be in the lineup and suddenly they're just, suddenly, suddenly things
08:12are gonna get better for this team.
08:14That's not, like, they could go acquire right-handed bat.
08:17That's not really solving anything right now.
08:19It's not, it's not the total solution.
08:21It's just, but some of it is like what you said.
08:23It's, despite the fact that you haven't given me any reason to have faith in you, I'm showing you faith.
08:28Right?
08:29It's like, I get it.
08:30Like, I'm not, I'm not, like, I'm having faith in you despite the fact you haven't given me a reason
08:35to.
08:36Like, there is something to it.
08:37But that's also why at the beginning of the show, and I know we'll talk about it again at noon,
08:40which is just, it's why they feel like they're in, sadly, sacrificial lamb territory.
08:45Like, that they're in the, you gotta change something up just to change something up.
08:50Yep.
08:50We are venturing down that, you know, that road, I think.
08:54Unfortunately.
08:54Or at least it's starting to feel that way more every day.
08:56Did you watch any part of the Royals game last night?
08:59Of course.
08:59Yeah.
09:00I was, you know, bar down the street with some people watching.
09:03They had the game on the big TV along with the NBA game.
09:05So I was there for a little bit.
09:07I mean, it was like 2-1.
09:09And I was like, oh, they're fighting.
09:10And then they kept having runners on and outscoring.
09:12And I'm like, and they're running into outs.
09:14And you're just like, this game's frustrating me.
09:18I'm still planning on going to a game this weekend.
09:21I was going to go tonight.
09:23Long story.
09:23I'm not going to work.
09:24They were not unrelated to anything that happened last night.
09:26Just not going.
09:27You watched them last night.
09:28You're like, I'm not going.
09:29It's completely unrelated.
09:30Just the individual, the tickets, and somebody else is going.
09:33And somebody we didn't think was going.
09:34Oh, I thought this was going to be like, I potentially could be going on a date situation.
09:37I thought that, like, something diverted you away from that.
09:40No, they were not my tickets.
09:42Somebody else invited me.
09:43And then somebody else thought they were going to something else.
09:47And they're not.
09:48But they hadn't gone with that person.
09:49So I said, go ahead and go.
09:50I'll be OK.
09:50Who wants to go on a date with Alex tonight, you know?
09:529-1-3-5-8-6-7-9-6-5.
09:54Would you go on a date with the text line?
09:56With the text line?
09:57With someone on the text line.
09:58Our show listenership is made up of, like, 95% men, Cody.
10:03But if there was one 32-year-old woman and she'd send you a text, you know, she'd give
10:07you your social profile so you could scout for 30 minutes, you know?
10:11I would need a social media account.
10:12Just to confirm?
10:13Yeah.
10:14I went on one semi-blind date because of this show.
10:17I know.
10:17And it turned out to be an FBI agent.
10:19You said she was nice?
10:20She was very nice.
10:21That's why we couldn't find anything about her.
10:23Because she was an FBI agent, it turned out.
10:26I did not know that until we were at dinner.
10:28It made way more sense once I got there.
10:31Yeah.
10:31Yeah, she was nice.
10:33Yeah.
10:33Didn't work out, but that's fine.
10:34Yeah, it was just one date.
10:35Just one date.
10:35Her dad's the one that texted in.
10:37That's hard for that to be a success story, you know?
10:39Dad purchases date in a previous Cody and Gold garage sale, Drew.
10:43Yeah, Drew wasn't here when this happened.
10:44Oh, that was how it came about?
10:45It was a Cody and Gold garage sale item.
10:47You got to go on a date with Alex, and some father, you know,
10:51some guy purchased the date for his daughter.
10:55She went on it.
10:56They were, you know, it just didn't, you know,
10:58not a perfect fit or anything, but she was an FBI agent, that's true.
11:03That was interesting.
11:04That was really weird.
11:05That was, what are the odds?
11:07Because you and I talked about it for days.
11:08You're like, I can't find anything about this person.
11:10They don't exist.
11:10They're a ghost on social media, was the thought.
11:13Which seemed uncommon for somebody of her age.
11:15Yeah.
11:16Or our age.
11:17And you're just like, no, nothing.
11:18At least on the other end.
