00:00So I asked you guys to have some funny ha-has if we could,
00:03if there's any funny ha-has out there,
00:05about kind of comparing Carter and Cags together
00:07as at Drizzy underscore Drew29 did on X,
00:11which I think is really cool.
00:12Drew Banks, he writes for Kings of Kaufman,
00:13and he says, my son had finals today.
00:15Imagine if his teachers held him out of numerous previous math tests
00:18and exams to make sure his confidence is high.
00:21That's what the Royals are choosing to do to Jack Caglione
00:23and Carter Jensen to a lesser degree.
00:25Make it make sense.
00:26And I think that's our phrase kind of going forward with the Royals.
00:28Make it make sense.
00:29Because it doesn't.
00:30It makes no sense what they're doing out there.
00:32Literally none.
00:33There's no sense to be made from what they're doing out there right now.
00:36And I think that's fair to have that take.
00:39I think it's fair to have that opinion.
00:40They've created the narrative that is surrounding their ball club right now.
00:43Fans are angry, as they should be.
00:45So if we have any funny ha-has of what we could do with that,
00:49make it make sense, and also that kind of analogy for Carter and Cags.
00:53I mean, what about like a heart surgeon?
00:54Are you not letting that guy operate on maybe somebody who's, I don't know, 45 years old
01:02because he's just not ready to have that kind of heart?
01:04Or are you going to allow somebody to get that kind of opportunity
01:07so they know what to do when they're in those situations?
01:10We talked about the pilots of an airline.
01:12Are you going to allow pilots to land in rain?
01:14Are you going to say, nah, we'd rather not have you do that?
01:16We're not going to teach you how to land in rain.
01:17You're only going to fly when the weather's nice.
01:19But you can't do that because you're not preparing guys for the entire job.
01:25You know, are you going to a lawyer and you're saying,
01:27don't worry about that part of the class.
01:28You'll never have to worry about torts or something like that.
01:31Then all of a sudden you've got to worry about torts.
01:33But my professor told me not to worry about it because it wasn't that big a deal
01:36and you'll never have to deal with it.
01:37And then when you get presented with it, you don't know how to deal with it.
01:40I just don't know how these guys are ever going to learn how to get better
01:43and how to learn from failure when we're not presenting them
01:46the opportunities in which to do so.
01:50Yeah, we're getting a lot of good analogies from the text line.
01:52This one from the 913.
01:54When you learn how to make a PB&J, it's best and easiest with a knife.
01:57But we're going to use a spoon.
01:58Yeah.
01:58It also can work.
01:59It'll just take longer.
02:00A fork.
02:01Yeah, exactly.
02:04It'll take longer.
02:04You're going to use a fork to do something like that, you know?
02:07Exactly.
02:08Yeah, because we've got to get these guys in that lineup.
02:11And by not playing them and not giving them those experiences,
02:14we're not developing these people the right way.
02:16I mean, you said it with the pilot thing.
02:18I mean, it is inevitably going to rain in your life.
02:21There's going to be a storm.
02:23There's going to be a hard day.
02:24There's going to be some trial or tribulation that you're going to have to work through,
02:27whether it's talking to someone, having to apologize to someone and come to terms,
02:30look at the eye and say, hey, man, I'm sorry I did something wrong.
02:33Or it's going to have to be like, you know, bask in your choices,
02:37whether it's I stayed up too late last night watching that double overtime game.
02:40And you know what?
02:40I know tomorrow morning it's going to be a little bit tired of a morning,
02:42but I'm going to be fine because I'm going to make it work.
02:44There's going to be that trial and tribulation, but you're going to have to step over it and make it
02:47work.
02:47And instead, we are coddling two grown-ass qualified baseball players
02:52who have been highly touted as the future of this baseball club with Bobby Witt Jr.
02:57And we've got him.
02:58We've minimized that.
03:00We've got him in a cradle.
03:01Yeah.
03:02Six-foot-five dominant Jack Caglione raking 95-plus exit velo.
03:09It seems every time he gets a hold of the baseball bat with the baseball,
03:13he can't get in the lineup for more than two, three at-bats a game, it seems.
03:16It's like teaching your kid how to drive but not letting him on the highway
03:19and only making him drive around, you know, the neighborhood.
03:22Well, eventually they're going to need to get on the highway.
03:23They're going to need to learn because they're going to become adults
03:25and they're going to need to have that experience in their life.
03:28And the Royals are not letting Cags and Carter drive on the highway at this point in time.
03:32It's still with Mommy and Daddy down 119th Street.
03:34And you're never going to get better by doing those same things
03:38and not getting outside of that comfort zone, not seeing failure, not taking risks,
03:42not taking chances, not going out there and doing the things in everyday life
03:47that we do to try to get better at whatever it is.
03:49I mean, there are so many different analogies that you can use out there
03:53for the way that they're holding back these guys
03:55and not allowing them to develop.
03:58They're helicopter parents is essentially what the Kansas City Royals are as an organization.
04:02And helicopter parents are the worst.
04:04And the Royals right now, JJ and Q, they're helicopter parents.
04:08Let your kids do their thing, man.
04:10Stop meddling.
04:12Go fishing.
04:13Here's a fishing pole.
04:14You can use it 30 minutes on, one hour off.
04:16Use your hands to catch fish for that hour.
04:18The more you fish without a pole, the better you'll be.
04:20But remember, in September, you're going to be in a tournament
04:22and you have to use your pole.
04:23That's right.
04:23Yeah, that's exactly right.
04:26Yeah, that's exactly right.
04:28Yeah, that's great.
04:29That's what we're going to do.
04:30Yeah, I like that analogy.
04:31That's a good one right there.
04:32You're a carpenter.
04:33You're labeled to have great potential.
04:34Everyone's looking forward to your creations,
04:36but your employer only lets you make birdhouses.
04:39Tell the customers next year, he'll be ready to make a grandfather clock.
04:43Yeah.
04:43How?
04:44He's not getting any experience.
04:46Yeah, exactly.
04:47He's not getting those experiences.
04:49Yep.
04:49You've got to give your people those experiences.
04:52The pinch hit last night was like watching Pete Carroll throw the ball
04:55on the one-yard line.
04:57Oh, that's a good analogy.
04:58Yeah, that's a good analogy.
04:59Yeah, the pinch hitting for Carter last night with Marte,
05:02really bad managerial move.
05:04It's a bad move.
05:05There's no other way around it.
05:07You're losing three to one.
05:08You got this greatest closer that's in the game today,
05:11potentially throwing gas out there.
05:14What a great learning moment.
05:15What a great opportunity.
05:17What's going to give that kid more confidence going up there
05:20and showing that you have faith in him
05:22or pulling him to the bench and showing you have no faith in him?
05:25Because that's what the Royals are doing.
05:26They're telling Carter Jensen,
05:27you're good for the beginning part of the game,
05:29but when it matters,
05:30we're going to give it to the adults and let them take over.
05:32And again, go back to the kids table.
05:34Exactly.
05:35Yeah.
05:35Go back.
05:35Yeah.
05:35Go back to where you belong.
05:36That'll be good for your confidence.
05:37Right.
05:37But hey, we believe in you.
05:38You're important.
05:39You're important to us,
05:40but you're not going to bat when it matters most.
05:41Exactly.
05:42And again, I think we should emphasize the point that
05:46we don't know how good Cags and Carter are against lefties,
05:49and that's the point.
05:50Right.
05:50That's the point.
05:50We don't know.
05:51They don't know either.
05:52But what we do know is that Vinny and Sal can't hit right now,
05:55and they can get trotted out there.
05:57That's the problem.
05:57That's the fundamental problem.
05:59What were they?
05:590 for 7?
06:000 for 7 last night.
06:01Yeah, 0 for 7 last night.
06:02But that's the fundamental problem people have,
06:04and that's why people are confused,
06:06and that's why the fans are pissed off,
06:07because you're not following anything.
06:11You're doing a choose-your-own-adventure after every sentence.
06:14It is all over the place.
06:17It is a complete nonsensical performance that is taking place,
06:20and there's no rhyme or reason to any of this.
06:23And that's why fans are upset,
06:25because they look at this and they go,
06:27do you guys know what you're doing?
06:28Because it sure doesn't look like you do.
06:30Did they do this with Bobby Witt,
06:32set him against righties?
06:34I don't think so ever.
06:35No.
06:36This wasn't a thing, right?
06:37Uh-uh.
06:37Okay.
06:38That's what I'm saying.
06:40Now, Bobby, I believe, came up before this regime took over.
06:44It was, like, right in the – yeah.
06:45Yeah, because he was at the alternate site during COVID,
06:48so I think he came up in – yeah, before this regime took over.
06:51Gotcha.
06:51Okay.
06:52I wonder how Bobby would be doing if we never made changes here
06:54and how this team would be if they didn't make changes here.
06:56I bet you they'd be better.
06:58I guarantee you they'd be better than where they are right now.
07:02It's a low bar, but yeah.
07:03Yeah.
07:04100%.
07:04Because it stinks that we're wasting Bobby Witt.
07:06You don't want to waste Ken Walker, do you?
07:09No, absolutely not.
07:10No, this is a guy on offense who's going to help relieve the pressure for Mahomes.
07:15Yeah, and you don't want to waste Patrick Mahomes either, right?
07:18And the Chiefs have done a phenomenal job of not wasting Patrick Mahomes.
07:21You could look at last season and say, yeah, maybe it was.
07:23But they're on the heels of three straight Super Bowls, Mac.
07:26It's not like they wasted a season in the midst of nine and eights
07:29and being the Pittsburgh Steelers over the last five years, right?
07:32They miscalculated what they had, and they had reason to do so
07:35after three straight Super Bowl appearances.
07:36They miscalculated what they had on their team.
07:38They did.
07:39And they rightfully adjusted, like drastically.
07:43Pivoted, changed, looked at it, and said, all right,
07:45we're not wasting this Patrick Mahomes career again.
07:48And so Kenneth Walker is going to help take the pressure off of Patrick Mahomes.
07:52And there's a lot of guys now.
07:54A healthy full season of Josh Simmons is going to be great.
07:56I think a healthy full season of Rasheed Rice and Xavier Worthy
08:01and having a wide receiver coach is going to be great.
08:03You're taking that pressure off of Patrick Mahomes.
08:06And while Kenneth Walker is going to do a really nice job
08:09of taking that pressure off of Patrick Mahomes,
08:11I think having everybody, Mac, in that offense one more year older
08:15and really now in an entire offseason together,
08:19other than obviously Mahomes, but he'll be out there at OTAs
08:21and the minicamps throwing that football around as much as he possibly can.
08:25But having this full offseason together where everybody's healthy,
08:29have good coaches in place, they're ready to go,
08:32now I think we can have real expectations for the Chiefs.
08:35And I think they've got a lot on their team right now
08:37that can help take the pressure off of Patrick Mahomes.
08:39Chad O'Shea and Andy Reid being two at the top of my list, actually.
08:44Yeah, Eric Bannemi, and I'll add on the fact that I think
08:46this offensive line is going to be a stud,
08:48and I think Josh Simmons has a chance to be the best left tackle
08:50in all of football this year.
08:52And I don't believe that to be hyperbolic.
08:53When he was out there, when he was healthy,
08:55when he was finally in rhythm with the rest of this offensive line,
08:58he was a top five left tackle.
09:00I mean, it's just analytics, and you look at EPA play,
09:02you look at his ability to stop rushes,
09:04whether it be against the pass, against the run.
09:07He's great at getting to the second level.
09:09I think he's an absolute stud.
09:10I think he's a star.
09:11I think he's the future of this offensive line.
09:13I think he's going to be the kind of the
09:19consistent force with this Chiefs offense now moving forward.
09:21We've had Patrick Mahomes and Kelsey.
09:23Josh Simmons is going to now enter that fray as someone to continuously count on him,
09:28with Rasheed Rice this season being that yak king,
09:31that I can get you that ball on a bubble screen, and you can go for 15.
09:33You add that along with the aforementioned Ken Walker,
09:36this offense is going to have multiple easy buttons to push.
09:39And that was a buzzword for me last season that we did not have.
09:43It was completely vacated from this offense.
09:45There was no easy button.
09:46Mahomes, you're our leading rusher.
09:47Mahomes, go literally stiff-arm a defensive lineman
09:50and hit Juju Smith-Schuster on third and eight to get eight and a half yards
09:53and to get just over midfield.
09:55Like, that was what our offense was.
09:57But next year, easy buttons galore.
09:59Yeah, I love that.
10:00I love the term, the easy button.
