00:00Mac, Bob, Dusty here with you at 96.5 The Fan.
00:04This comes from Jayhawk for Life as we are in the season of vitamin C.
00:07Last day of school in Olathe.
00:08My older daughter is finishing middle school.
00:11My little one is finishing elementary school.
00:13Time flies.
00:15You better believe it does, brother.
00:16Mine's finishing her sophomore year and freshman year at Olathe East.
00:20Shout out Olathe East.
00:21Big soccer win the other night.
00:22Now they play Shawnee Mission East tonight for the right to go to state.
00:25Shawnee Mission East got 10 seniors.
00:26Maybe a tough game for Olathe East, but still nonetheless.
00:29How many does Olathe East have?
00:31One.
00:31Yeah, we have one senior on the team.
00:33Yeah, they're going to be good for the next couple of years.
00:35That's awesome.
00:35That's exciting.
00:36So one senior and a lot of juniors.
00:38But Shawnee Mission East, the girls, they've got 10 seniors on that team.
00:41So they're pretty damn good.
00:43They're kind of destined, I think.
00:44But we'll see.
00:45Hey, that's why you play the games, right?
00:46You have no idea what's going to happen.
00:48It's a rainy day.
00:50The turf could be slick.
00:51You're dealing with high school kids who are on their last day of school.
00:53Shawnee Mission's been out for a couple of days.
00:55Maybe they're not focused on the game.
00:57And so there's the leg up there for Olathe East.
01:02Yeah, well, yeah, the rest versus rust commentary we could have had, you know, if the Knicks didn't pull that
01:06one out, you know, the other day.
01:08But they did.
01:09Oh, America.
01:09Yeah, the rest versus rust is an interesting one.
01:12So, you know, we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
01:15So that's going on tonight.
01:16And also, Dusty and I are going to be out at the big golf tournament, See You in the Major
01:19Leagues, Dayton Moore's Golf Tournament tonight at Topgolf.
01:22We're going to have a lot of fun with that, raising some money for the See You in the Major
01:25Leagues Foundation.
01:26Dayton's awesome, always doing great things here in Kansas City.
01:29The stuff that he does, I mean, I wish I could tell a lot of the stuff that he does
01:32behind the scenes to help people.
01:33He's such a marvelous human being.
01:34And so we're going to love being out there tonight and helping his foundation and doing all the stuff that
01:40we seemingly do every year for Topgolf.
01:41It's a great event.
01:42So you and I will be out there tonight having fun.
01:45Yeah, the future for those graduating and finishing school Friday, right?
01:49Is that what you said?
01:50This is the last week, right?
01:51This is it.
01:52Yeah, today's the last day in a life.
01:53The shot mission's done.
01:55On a Thursday night.
01:55Yep.
01:56I don't know when Blue Valley finishes or anything like that, but all the graduation.
01:59I know Sal might be now, but it's only like 2-0-4.
02:02That's not working.
02:04I'm sorry.
02:05It's just not.
02:06The season is not working.
02:08And be confident, hitting 3-4 and be like, you know what?
02:12It hasn't worked with our vets.
02:13And you move them down in the order and say, you know what?
02:16I haven't done my job.
02:17I need to be down here because my production level is so low.
02:21Let the kids hit 3-4.
02:22Let Cags and Carter hit 3-4.
02:24I don't care at this point anymore if it's lefty, lefty, lefty to go.
02:28It's going to be righty, righty, lefty, lefty.
02:30And then you can figure out who hits fifth, whether it's Isaac Collins,
02:33whether it's Lane Thomas, whether it's Starley Marte, whoever the hell it may be.
02:36And then you put Cags or then you put Vinny and Sal down in the sixth and seventh slot
02:41in the lineup and say, hey, go prove to us why you should move up.
02:46Because analytics aside, I've seen two and a half months of baseball,
02:50and it ain't working at 3-4 with Sal and Vinny.
02:52It's just not.
02:53And I understand that the veterans, the mouthpiece, the captain of your team,
02:55sometimes guys that do have a lot of clout still need to get checked.
02:59And I don't think it's a rude way to do it, but at what point when you're 10 games
03:02under .500, has it worked?
03:04It's not.
03:04What if it does work?
03:05What if those young superstars that could be get a strike of confidence,
03:09and all of a sudden Bobby, or Bobby, Mike, El Garcia, Carter, and Cags all of a sudden
03:16start clicking at the top?
03:17That's going to start getting these guys big.
03:19Well, I want to get back into the penthouse.
03:20I want to get back up there.
03:21Then they start producing.
03:22And then who knows where it goes?
03:24But as of right now, you could put everybody hat in a lineup outside of Garcia.
03:29That's what they do.
03:30It's what it seems like.
03:31And I just would love to see those kids get some shine up at the top
03:35and kind of see how they deal with maybe not the most amount of pressure
03:38you could see them having, but they've had their licks.
03:42They had last year to kind of get used to the big leagues.
03:44Now it's like, go be the big, big leaguer that you can be,
03:47and we'll let these guys figure it out because right now it's not working with the veterans.
03:50No, it's not working at all.
03:51I don't care what they do with the lineup at this point in time.
03:53Dusty, any answer is a right answer for what they've been doing.
03:56But I will say, Tuesday, they finally changed some things up a little bit.
03:59It was like they were listening to the show and getting their ideas
04:01and writing them down because they've done everything, Mac,
04:04that we've said over the last week from a lineup perspective.
04:06They moved Vinny Pasquantino down, and as I said yesterday,
04:09they finally gave Vinny the day off.
04:10I was pleading here yesterday to give him a day off.
04:14We even asked Q about it.
04:16When do you start to give the guy a day off?
04:18If you want to listen to their lineup stuff,
04:20go back and listen to the Q interview yesterday.
04:21I thought he was fantastic yesterday, quite honestly.
04:24I thought Hosmer was fantastic as well, and we'll get to some of the stuff that he had to say
04:28because I think Eric Hosmer and his style and his philosophy needs to have more of a voice
04:33inside this Royals organization right now.
04:35Eric Hosmer was part of a winner.
04:36He knew how to develop at the big league level.
04:38These guys do not.
04:39They do not know how to develop talent at the big league level.
04:42We're watching it.
04:43They've underdeveloped so many different bats from Ryan O'Hearn to MJ Melendez to Brent Rooker
04:48to all of these guys that we see go other places and have good years and careers.
04:53They're all underdeveloped here in Kansas City, and they're underdeveloped because they're
04:56playing nerd ball out there with whatever kind of statistical analysis they have going on
05:00instead of playing let's get these guys experience ball, and they need to get these guys experience.
05:06So I'm with you, Dusty.
05:07Tags and Carter need to be in the lineup every day moving forward.
05:10There is no excuse now to not have them in the lineup because if they're not in the lineup now,
05:15when you're 10 games under .500 before Memorial Day, what you're telling us is they're not
05:20everyday players, and if they're not everyday players, then send them back to the minor
05:23leagues to get them to be everyday players.
05:25So either they're in the lineup every day or you're sending both of them down and letting
05:28them be everyday players in the minor leagues.
05:30One way or the other, they need to be in a lineup every single day, and you're 10 games
05:34under .500.
05:35You're not playing for the postseason anymore.
05:37You better start playing these guys or 27 is going to be a wash, too.
05:41And I think the other thing that it kind of gives me like a cross-sport analogy is you
05:45remember when the Chiefs couldn't have anybody catch the ball?
05:50And Andy Reid is always known as a stubborn coach.
05:53You've got to learn.
05:54You've got to earn your way.
05:55And they had a rookie in Rasheed Rice.
05:57And they're like, you know what?
05:58Maybe this is the best option we have.
05:59I know that normally it takes a year for you to get established and do all that, but damn
06:03it, we don't have anything right now, and we're going to lose this season.
06:05We don't figure it out.
06:06And Rasheed Rice came on the scene around like week eight or nine or something like that.
06:09I think it was, and then was a vital part in the run towards the playoffs.
06:12I think that's why a lot of fans are like, man, I don't know if you should let him go.
06:15I know he's kind of an idiot, but hey, hold on.
06:17That's kind of the way it is right now with the Royals.
06:19Like, yeah, you know, the analytics say that he doesn't hit against right.
06:22He's going to hit lefties.
06:23Screw it.
06:25Like, let him go.
06:26Like, I know that you want to do this.
06:28I know you don't want to get outside of your comfort zone.
06:30Go let him do it.
06:31Go do that, because it was literally last year talking to Q on this show.
06:35Hey, how come Noah Cameron, remember how frustrated people were that Noah Cameron
06:38with the like 80 pitches come out in the fifth and be like, let him pitch into the sixth.
06:42Well, he's never pitched that long in his career.
06:44We don't know what he'll do.
06:45You're never going to know if you don't find out.
06:47Your kid's not going to swim if you don't throw him in.
06:50Well, then that's why you say the analytics, right?
06:52And I'm thinking about it.
06:53Cags had 380 minor league at bats before he came up to the big league level.
06:57They've never let him hit against lefties.
06:59What numbers are they using to tell me he can't hit against lefties?
07:02Can somebody present that to me or are you just saying, well, because he's a lefty,
07:06he can't hit lefties because I'd like to know what numbers you're using and what proof
07:10and what data you're using to tell me that he can't hit lefties because you don't have
07:14any data of him hitting against lefties 380 minor league at bats and never getting to see
07:19a lefty at the big league level.
07:20And you're going to sit there and you're going to tell me, oh, we've got the data and the
07:23analytics that he can't based on what based on what information can't Cags hit lefties.
07:29Speaking of Eric Hosmer, who was on the show yesterday, had this to say last night on
07:33the broadcast.
07:34So for me, you got to give these guys the opportunity on the, I think there's more of
07:37the platooning stuff.
07:38You know, there's the sinkers, cutters, lefties and righties for me personally, a right-handed
07:44sinker was my bread and butter, right?
07:45Ball moving away from me.
07:47So if a lefty is throwing a cutter, that ball is doing the same action moving away from
07:50me.
07:51I love it.
07:51I need to face that lefty.
07:53If a lefty is throwing a sinker running into me, I have no chance.
07:56He's going to tie me up.
07:57I'm trying to get the ball in the air.
07:59I can't get extension.
08:00So if that's a righty and he's throwing a cutter and that's that same movement into
08:04me, what's the difference of me facing that righty versus that lefty sinker?
08:08So I think not only the platooning with the left, right thing is just a little too, it's
08:13too much.
08:13I don't think the details inside it really tell the full story.
08:16So some of those lefties with cutters, with a guy like Cags that can go the other way,
08:21I feel like it's those lefties that get you back to that swing you're searching for if
08:24you're ever in a tough spot.
08:25But you really need those at-bats.
08:27And again, Jack Cagliano, a guy like him, he's in scoring position when he stands in
08:30that box.
08:31So it's hard to really give him half the at-bats throughout the course of the season, in my
08:36opinion.
08:36It's brilliant by Eric Hosmer.
08:37And I want to get more into this around eight o'clock this morning because Eric Hosmer
08:41laid out there the way that they won at the big league level.
08:44And JJ Piccolo was here and oversaw that organization was part of the organization when they won in
08:4914, 15, doing it that way.
08:51And now all of a sudden they're doing it a completely different way.
08:54It just doesn't make sense.
08:55Eric Hosmer was brilliant yesterday on the show.
08:57I don't know.
