00:00all right one of my good friends sent me some numbers because he's on the I would say he's on
00:04the text line side of the Xavier Worthy argument we'll get back to it here in a bit I'll save
00:09this
00:09topic for a little bit later in the show now I will tell you right now I think I'm going
00:14to get
00:14addicted to this over the offseason the excuse train on the text line it is rolling for Xavier
00:20Worthy so right now Rob I am I'm writing down all the excuses for Xavier Worthy right now I have
00:31lack of run game I have injuries I have coaching I have my home's accuracy I have those three I
00:40have
00:40those four things down right now as why Xavier Worthy hasn't reached potential yet is there
00:46anything that you're seeing on the text line before we move to Jalen Royals that you would
00:51like to add right now to the Xavier Worthy excuse train because I would say that has been the theme
00:57if we're playing family feud the number one answer has been injuries a lot of people are making the
01:02point about Chad O'Shea which I do think is a good point I don't want to make you seem like
01:06I don't
01:07think you guys are making good points I do think the Chad O'Shea thing is a good point having a
01:13different voice in the room could end up turning his career around we've heard that before lack of
01:18run game is kind of low on the list for me Mahomes would be number three lack of run game
01:22would be a
01:23four is there anything else before we move on and talk Royals I would just say run lack of run
01:28game is
01:28pretty high on the text line which is just puzzling to me but I digress does chemistry count in coaching
01:35because that's a popular one he just couldn't get the chemistry with Patrick Mahomes that's where I
01:39have Mahomes accuracy okay that's fine yeah I feel like that's in the same vein that's the same
01:43umbrella I just wanted to see how that one fell okay all right so I'm just saying I mean you're
01:46you're racking them up right now he's got four he's got four on the board all right let's talk about
01:51Jalen Royals here is Andy Reid so you know Rasheed Rice he's in county right now he's locked up
01:57so somebody's got to get those reps Jalen Royals is the one getting those Rasheed Rice reps
02:04here's what coach Reid had to say yeah so they're uh they're rotating in uh with the first group and
02:10but Rasheed not here it gives Jalen some great reps uh you know with the wide receiver position
02:16strong he looks strong out here and um running well and that whole deal so uh it's good it's
02:24great for him it's great for him to uh in the quarterbacks to see what what he's all about
02:30on repeated reps all right so that was head coach Andy Reid I looked up two things for you guys
02:39and
02:40I'm I'm not incredibly down on Jalen Royals I mean I'm maybe more down than everybody else is
02:46I still don't really understand why he couldn't get on the field when the Chiefs had those preseason
02:51games like they they kind of got a gift in terms of player development one of the reasons you feel
02:57good about Aston Gelati is he got to play in those preseason games one of the reasons why you feel
03:02good about Noah Williams is he got to play in those preseason games one of the reasons why we haven't
03:07spent a lot of time talking about Jalen Royals is you guessed it Rob they didn't really let him play
03:12in
03:12those preseason games he only got four targets last year that's just a criminally low number if we
03:20are talking about just opportunities and chances to have success but I looked up a couple of things
03:26now this applies more to Cyrus Allen more than it applies to
03:33more than it applies to uh I completely forgot his name Jalen Royals my bad this applies more to him
03:38than it applies to Royals rookie wide receivers under Andy Reid now it's skewed because they've had
03:43first round picks and second round picks they are averaging 37 catches for 473 yards now I don't
03:51really see a world in which Cyrus Allen gets that do you see any world in which Cyrus Allen has
03:5537
03:56catches for 437 yards which has been the average for a rookie wide receiver in a Chiefs uniform
04:03I don't think he gets that but if you were to ask me who's more likely to get 37 for
04:08450 Jalen Royals
04:09or Cyrus Allen I would take Cyrus Allen okay so no is the answer but I think I think if
04:16you're asking
04:16me is it the rookie or the fake rookie I would say Cyrus Allen okay yeah I was just I
04:21was just curious
04:2137 catches now to be fair these are guys who are mostly first and second round picks I mean
04:26they have yet to really hit on a mid-round pick as a wide receiver remember Cornell Powell Cornell Powell
04:32never caught a pass in a Chiefs uniform so they just haven't really hit on this kind of receiver not
04:38saying they can't but under Brett Veach they have not had the fourth or fifth round pick guy exceeds
04:46expectations they haven't really had that guy yet in their locker room and let's see if you can get
04:52that with Cyrus Allen I don't want to poison the well before the guy ever gets out there Rob I
04:57looked
04:57this up today because I was genuinely curious do you know how many players in the NFL had more receiving
05:04yards this year than Jalen Royals just if you would just randomly guess how many players last year in the
05:11National Football League had more receiving yards than Jalen Royals this is gonna be a big number 215
05:18much bigger okay all right that was a good how much 415 454 I'm serious there are 454 players
05:32last year in the National Football League that had more receiving yards than Jalen Royals I mean he only
05:39had four so there's just not a lot of players who actually caught a pass who had less receiving
05:45yards than him one of them shockingly enough was on the Chiefs team Robert Tunyon Robert Tunyon last
05:51year was a guy who had a catch and also had fewer yards than him but you can't really have
05:58a worse
05:59rookie season than what Jalen Royals had it's really really difficult I think to have a worse season than
06:06him a you didn't really get on the field and they just didn't really use you for a wide receiver
06:12room
06:12that was trying to figure it out basically the entire season they could have used a spark they
06:18could have used a little something and they just never got it from Jalen Royals now I'm not ready to
06:23completely throw this pick out the window they are giving him the reps let's see how it is but I
06:31mean
06:31as weird as it may sound I mean the depth chart is a little bit stacked so you're gonna be
06:35fighting for
06:36opportunities you're gonna be fighting for yards you're gonna be fighting for chances I mean you're
06:40behind Rice you're behind Worthy you're behind Tyquan Thornton they just spent another mid-round pick on a
06:46wide receiver you're still battling with Nico Remigio and Jason Brownlee all four of those guys between
06:53Royals Allen Remigio and Brownlee all four of them are not helping at least not in the receiving game
06:59some guys are going to do some special teams somebody will end up being the kick returner punt returner
07:03be able to help you in special teams but everybody out of that three ain't eaten unless an injury
07:08happens and if your offense is overly relying on one of those other four guys we're probably going
07:13to be having the conversation in September October of are they going to make a move before the deadline
07:18to try to help them in the second half of the season let me ask you a question you're not
07:22willing
07:23to throw away the pick yet why what he's done literally nothing in the NFL I'm willing to at least
07:29give it this year what is what is the what is the it he would have to do if you'd
07:33be like I'll give
07:34another year because I me and you are close on where two to 350 yards no chance he gets there
07:41he had four targets his rookie year you have him making a massive jump as wide as he'd have to
07:47be
07:47wide receiver four is he ahead of Cyrus Allen is he ahead of Tyquan Thornton he could be I don't
07:51I
07:52don't think he is I mean but we agree though if you are looking at the cheats depth chart
07:55Jalen Royals should win out of that grouping so if we're putting rice over side worthy on one side
08:02Thornton on one side we agree that's their one two three known come out of Royals Allen Remigio and
08:07Brownlee Jalen Royals should have the most number of receiving yards out of that group he should
08:13in theory I'm with you so I would say that guy ends up usually getting somewhere in that two to
08:19350 range if they got 350 yards from Jalen Royals this year I'd be happy I don't think he's gonna
08:25get
08:25that number I I a lot of what you just said about Xavier worthy I applied to Jalen Royals
08:33and maybe it's too early for the b-words he's a fourth round pick so kind of who cares but
08:37like
08:37yeah I mean I would I would never use the word on him you just but like wasted the pick
08:40you're you're
08:41a guy he's way more let's say this way he's way more Cornell Powell than he is anything else
08:46in my opinion he's he's more Marcus Kemp on this team than he is starting wide receiver
08:52what if we do this exercise I'm gonna go back to 2023 now I think Mahomes could be better than
08:58this but let's just use this as a barometer he threw for 4,200 yards and 27 touchdowns that seems
09:03about right to me in terms of yards I think you can throw for more touchdowns than that but you
09:06follow me so I'm going back now let's take a look at receiving wise and let's see how it's stacked
09:11out so Kelsey led in receiving yards rice was second Justin Watson MVS Noah Gray so MVS had 315
09:21Noah Gray had 305 can you get 28 catches for 305 from Jalen Royals this year is general is going
09:29to
09:29outdo Noah Gray this year yeah I think Noah Gray's been phased out of their offense at least base one
09:34it was last year they didn't really use them last year he had 170 yards receiving last year you say
09:39that it's 170 more than Jalen Royals that's fair I can't I can't debate that you made a good point
09:44he made a good counter I did that math pretty quickly he made a good counter I can't argue
09:48he had 170 Jalen's at zero let me do that quick math yeah if if you're telling me they're phasing
09:53Noah Gray out are they they haven't phased in Jalen Royals is a better way to say it I'm just
09:58okay
09:59I'm just I'm just asking you know what took I'll combine her Xavier Rory conversation you're
10:03about the Chiefs got lucky they had two preseason games he didn't play in those they had three
10:07preseason games they had Tennessee Denver and Vegas if you want to tell me Tennessee they were
10:12still quasi trying they were out they were they were eliminated there was no reason to be trying
10:17in the Tennessee game but I certainly hope they're not trying they got they got handled by a team that
10:22picked in the top five I hope that wasn't the Chiefs putting their best slip forward Jalen Royals
10:27couldn't make any plays again with Shane Buschel against the first overall pick team I guess not I I can
10:33name some scrub wide receivers in Chiefs history that if you pull up the numbers like oh they had a
10:37good that game didn't Jeff Webb one year Brody curl had a good game against a nothing team at the
10:43end
10:43of the season general's couldn't do that do you think he knew the playbook someone on the text I
10:48made this point earlier and I don't think it's a bad point was Royals in the you don't know the
10:53playbook doghouse only getting four targets last year is crazy from a rookie it's crazy now I understand
11:00the Chiefs have a perception of they're not good with rookie wide receivers and at least under this
11:07swing they haven't really had that wide receiver that takes that big step they at least usually are
11:12incorporated in the offense and usually in the second half of the season they start to figure out
11:17how they can be a part of their offense Jalen Royals was never a part of their offense he was
11:21getting
11:21healthy DMPs in the very beginning of the season so I personally I'm at least open to you're gonna be
11:30in the rotation now for OTAs make the most out of these OTAs in mini camp and when we go
11:36to training
11:37camp it's gonna be one of the storylines that the top storyline is can you win that wide receiver for
11:42battle are you the most impressive out of the other groups because there's two groups of wide receivers
11:47there's the one that we all know that I would call them established NFL players they're established NFL
11:52guys and then there's three or four of those other guys and you and I both know there's always a
11:58wide
11:58receiver that is pops up a training camp darling that everybody loves that somebody thinks has a
12:03chance to make the roster that guy always appears at wide receiver but I would say that wide receiver
12:09four spot to me is open in Kansas City I don't think any of them have it who has it
12:14Jason Brownlee
12:15has it Nico Remillo has it I think wide receiver four is open in Casey it's also possible they add
12:20a
12:21receiver still for sure which well that that's the case then we don't need to talk about Jalen Royals
12:25no more because he ain't doing nothing he ain't doing anything if that's the case well yeah I'll
12:31just say that's the last thing I'm it's not hard to be down on Jalen Royals because it's there's
12:35nothing that's happened he's been less productive than Justin Ross and Justin Ross did nothing for
12:40this team I mean he had four catches or he had four targets for seven yards so he did he
12:46didn't do a
12:47whole lot he didn't do a whole lot last season let me play this for you we mentioned it with
12:53Mahomes Mahomes Mahomes is really happy to have EB back happy to have him in the mix you know EB's
12:57yelling at guys holding him accountable here's Andy Reid talking about Chad O'Shea and his presence
13:03being felt yeah you notice it yeah um they're they're um I think they love what they're doing
13:10I think all of them they love what they're doing and they're not afraid to express that the players
13:15feel it um that's a I think that's healthy and um I think that discipline on offense is very very
13:26important um that you that you maintain that and incorporate that into the structure of what
13:35you're doing as far as uh running plays so that is Andy Reid talking about new Chiefs wide receiver
13:43coach Chad O'Shea we'll see if he can come in and work his magic with this wide receiver room
13:48I want to play one more cut for you guys from Andy Reid so Andy Reid met with the media
13:53today he'll meet
13:53a couple of times but we and I we know this he only talking about Rasheed Rice one time he
13:59is not
13:59talking about Rasheed Rice every time he is available between now and training camp this is the one time
14:05this offseason that he is answering any questions about Rasheed Rice here's what he said
14:11um as far as uh Rasheed goes we're aware of the situation the league's aware of it we've talked
14:17to the league we get it um and as far as any further ado to that there's uh been no
14:25talk about
14:26anything further uh we're moving forward just normal as we go here uh you know when he gets back he
14:34we got to get him caught up in doing what he you know it's not not a not an easy
14:38thing he's going
14:39through so uh life lessons are important but we're all given given chances to learn and uh and so
14:45he's he's in that position now I understand everybody learns at their own pace and everybody
14:52has their own journey I'm not even judging that part of it I know I've made the same mistake
14:57repeatedly I'm guessing you've made the same mistake repeatedly that that's part of life part of life is
15:02growing up and maturing and hopefully one day turning from those actions I allow Rasheed Rice to have
15:07that opportunity I guess what I would counter with to Andy is how many times do you think he needs
15:13the
15:13same life lesson like the life lesson from this I would say isn't really that different from the other
15:21ones that we've heard with him it's not like this is a new incident with Rasheed Rice this is the
15:28same
15:29incident these are the rules this is the decorum you have violated the rules and decorum and decided
15:37that that didn't matter to you so I I'm all for life lessons all of that makes sense all of
15:43us should
15:43be given the grace to grow mature and learn and develop everybody should be given that including
15:48Rasheed Rice my question is while you're sitting there and I mean you're the only one doing this time
15:54your boys ain't doing this time your girl ain't there you are the only person in here when you get
15:59out what's going to be different that would keep you out of here that's not a place I'd be interested
16:06in going back especially if I live the quality of life that Rasheed Rice does I'm guessing even with
16:13all the turmoil still really good to be Rasheed Rice you making money in the league I just yeah your
16:21girl's beautiful I just seemed like there's a lot of benefits I I wouldn't want to be taking breaks
16:25from that because I'm in jail so that that that would be my thing if Rasheed can learn from these
16:31life lessons I'm with you but advice is only as good as the person that takes and listens to the
16:37advice
16:38you can tell people the advice all the time there's a label on the cigarettes that tell you the dangers
16:43of smoking it people still smoke all the time we have all the information about the benefits of
16:49wearing your seat belt people make the decision not to you've heard this advice you determine I'm not
16:54listening to it so I think everybody is telling Rasheed Rice the exact same message I'm not telling
17:01him Andy Reid is not telling him something a unique message at this point the question is is Rasheed Rice
17:07going to listen and is he going to apply it you asked how many times he used to hear it
17:10and I'm not even
17:11being funny when I say it apparently more than five because what this is the fifth time he's gotten
17:19the same life lesson just more and more severe and learning it I mean if reports are accurate and
17:26what the NFL people are saying about what happened with him in college he's you know got by and got
17:32drafted it affected his draft test but got drafted he then had the car act the car racing accident in
17:37Dallas I would say he got off as far as crime goes he got off pretty good considering that I
17:44don't
17:44know if you can get less of a penalty I agree what he did than what he actually got I
17:48agree and then
17:50he then has the Instagram allegations from his the mother of his children twice I believe that came up
17:59he then that disappeared she's still suing him actually it evaporated from a criminal aspect
18:06they are still in jail trying to figure out the paper that's four and now he violated probation
18:11he's in jail so you ask and I'm not even being funny how many times do you have to hear
18:16the same
18:17life lesson the answer apparently is five because he keeps hey doing a bad thing getting a slap on the
18:23wrist and rise in severity from there and then goes back to his regular life if he didn't learn after
18:30this I don't know he is going to learn it coming up
