00:00And obviously, that's where kind of we're going right now. That is the biggest story of the day. For those
00:03who don't know, Rasheed Rice will be serving 30 days in jail. And look, there's a lot to get into,
00:08Jay, on this Rasheed Rice situation. But we can start where I guess we can start from the beginning of
00:12what happened yesterday and how we ended up, you know, at this point in time. And I think we're going
00:16to get into a lot of conversations this morning about morally right versus what is legally right. Right. Because I
00:22believe marijuana should be legalized across the United States in all 50 states. It should be a legal product. It
00:27should be like alcohol. It should be like tobacco.
00:28A gambling, a gambling, you know, absolutely. All of these things out there. I am a big proponent in legalizing
00:35marijuana in the United States of America. I think it is a product that should be legalized. I think it
00:40is a product that adults should be able to consume if they want to consume it, just like alcohol, just
00:44like cigarettes. There's a lot of health benefits, as we've learned over the years from marijuana.
00:49However, comma, when it's part of your probation, that if you test positive for this substance, you violate your probation.
00:57Well, then you can't be smoking the weed, right? You can't be partaking. You can't be enjoying. You can't be
01:03imbibing in the marijuana if it's part of your probation.
01:07And it says, if you test positive for this, you could go to jail. And so there are two sides
01:13to this story that we're going to be talking about. Am I mad that he was smoking weed? Hell no.
01:18I don't care about that. Am I mad that he was stupid and violated his probation? Yeah. And that's where
01:24we are in all of this.
01:25It's not a weed thing. It's being an adult thing. And Rasheed Rice has proven, Jay, to me, and I
01:30think to everybody yet again, he's not capable of being a normal adult in society.
01:36The thing is, when you're where the Chiefs are at, they're not where the Cardinals are at. The Cardinals are
01:41probably going to be picking first on the clock this year. They're not where the Raiders are at that picked
01:45first last year. Where the Chiefs are is a team that permanently goes to the UFC title game, that goes
01:50to championship games, goes to Super Bowl. The expectations have changed for this team.
01:55And it becomes more than just you and yourself and what you do. You become part of a team. Right.
02:01The team is more important than you. You walk in those doors. You got Hall of Famers. You got a
02:06quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, that's going to the Hall of Fame. You got a head coach that's going to the Hall
02:09of Fame. Second all-time in postseason win. You're tied in. It's going to the Hall of Fame. Your defensive
02:13lineman, Christian, is probably going to the Hall of Fame. You are nothing when you come to the Kansas City
02:18Chiefs as a second-round pick. You haven't had 1,000 yards in the NFL. You are not more important
02:22than the hole with the Kansas City Chiefs.
02:25Sometimes things get lost. When you have certain rules, and part of the rules are, yeah, I get it. Marijuana,
02:31you can smoke it away here in Missouri. You can do whatever you want. But you can't in Texas.
02:35And knowing that, your probation says you can't do it. You stay away from it. Whatever they say, you stay
02:40away from it. You got your second chance. Right.
02:42You got your second chance when you walk away from that accident and have probation. Yes, you still had those
02:4830 days to serve at some point. Whether that would have been limited or not, probably would have been.
02:53But now it's not. Right. Now you broke the probation. So you can't do that. But you stay away from
02:58everything. You just have to do it. Right.
03:00It's not eternity. And you screwed up, and you're trying to make amends for it, and you're part of a
03:04team, and they're counting on you to be a cog.
03:07Because they didn't dabble with receivers and free agents. Nope.
03:10They didn't really do it in the draft either, besides bringing in Cyrus Allen. Right.
03:14And that kid from Cincinnati, they had the undrafted free agent, Chamberlain or whatever the hell his name is.
03:19So they brought him in. So those guys don't matter. But they count on you. Right.
03:23What I'm saying is they're very limited as what they did. 100% count on you. And that speaks volumes.
03:29What they do in free agency of the draft speaks volumes on what they think of you.
03:32Because if they didn't, and they brought in different receivers or whatever, you know you're not as important.
03:36It's what everybody does. All quarterbacks, receivers, they watch the draft. What are the team doing?
03:40Because that speaks to how they really feel about you. And there's a ton on his plate.
03:46Like he's a piece. They go out and get Kenneth Walker. They didn't bring him in just for fun. They're
03:50bringing him here to win.
03:51He was a top free agent running back. They burned him in the win. They're counting on you.
03:55And when you let the team down by doing this kind of thing and not being able to go to
04:00OTAs, not the end of the world or mandatory minicamp, but it's about the timing.
04:04It's about helping guys out. You got a quarterback coming back from an ACL, busting his ass to get back
04:09on the field, and you screw up probation.
04:12It's disappointing because of what's in front of you. You're a second rounder, man.
04:16You're a second rounder that spent a lot of money and missed a lot of endorsements because of what you
04:21did.
04:22This was your chance to make some cash. And it's still out there, and NFL teams will pay you. I
04:27do believe that.
04:27But they know you're a phone call away from the NFL. Boom. Gone for the year.
04:33He is a guy, and they always say the best ability is availability.
04:36He has not proven that he has the availability necessary to play in the NFL.
04:41And, you know, I think even yesterday we were talking about how excited we were to have these receivers finally
04:47with a legitimate coach in Chad O'Shea, right?
04:49Because I do believe the last couple of years, Rasheed Rice and, you know, Xavier Worthy, kind of like what
04:56the Royals do with their hitters,
04:57underdevelop people and then let them go to other organizations and do well.
05:00That's kind of what the Chiefs have been doing with their wide receiver position.
05:03They've underdeveloped that wide receiver position, and that's because they didn't have the proper coaches in place coaching these guys.
05:09They went out and hired one of the best wide receiver coaches they had, and you were going to say,
05:14and I, at least anyway,
05:15and I think Mack felt this way as well, is that you look around and you're like, I'm giving these
05:20guys a free pass over the last couple of years
05:22because they didn't have the right instruction. They were underdeveloped.
05:25Again, we talk about that a lot with Royals bats, right? Chiefs wide receivers, underdeveloped.
05:30And now they went out there and they realized they were underdeveloping that position.
05:34They hired one of the best wide receiver coaches out there to work with these guys.
05:38And the minute you finally have good instruction, you can't be an adult.
05:42You can't be a grownup, and you can't do what you need to do in order to be able to
05:47be here and be part of learning under Chad O'Shea.
05:50Now, we all know, as reported yesterday by Adam Schefter, that Rasheed Rice had a cleanup on his knee down
05:57in Dallas,
05:57and that's why he was down there, and that's where he ultimately was tested for this, which is, you know,
06:03the stuff he was doing was all up here, and they immediately went to Dallas for the surgery.
06:07It was going to be a quick stop in Dallas and come back.
06:09Well, it's going to be a 30-day stop in Dallas now.
06:11Give it a lot.
06:11So he was going to miss OTAs anyway and minicamp anyway, but now you're talking about rehab.
06:17You're talking about the classroom work.
06:18He is still a big 30 days behind of where he's going to need to be,
06:23and when training camp starts, he's going to miss all of this OTA, at least rehab and classroom work as
06:29well.
06:29Well, it's that battery between your quarterback and receiver, and you know Mahomes is going to be limited.
06:33Do I feel Mahomes can play on day one?
06:34I do.
06:36But you're not going to have your number one receiver, and you're not going to have your number one quarterback
06:39for a lot of the said drills going on there.
06:42Correct.
06:42And that sets the team back.
06:43It does, yeah.
06:44I don't care how good you think you are, that sets the team back when they're relying on you so
06:48much,
06:48and it looks like the offseason, especially at the wide receiver position,
06:51they went with coaching over talent.
06:53They felt that coaching, not the talent, was their issue.
06:56I think it's both, to be honest with you.
06:57But they went coaching over talent, clearly running back.
06:59They bring in DeMarco Murray.
07:01Maybe he'll help Kenneth Walker or not, but Chad O'Shea is the big difference maker
07:05because they need help with wide receiver.
07:06It's the lowest paid wide receiver room in the NFL.
07:08They had to get this, so they went coaching over talent with that,
07:12and now your number one wide receiver can't even go to the meetings through OTA.
07:17Right, and who knows what he's been doing since Chad O'Shea's been hired as this coach.
07:20Has he been working with him every single day?
07:22Has he been in there busting it?
07:24You said hopefully.
07:26I hope he's possessed.
07:27But I also hope, though, Jay, that would require adult-like activities to go in there
07:32and make sure that you're up to snuff and meeting the new coach.
07:34And I don't know at this point in time if Hershey Rice is capable of these adult activities
07:39because he has shown us by his actions that he just isn't capable of being an adult.
07:43And that stinks because if you're going to play in the NFL, you've got to be an adult.
07:47Well, when you talk about being here early, like we're joking around with,
07:50showing up at the building, his ass should be the first one that went around to drive,
07:54even before Mahomes.
07:55Right.
07:55He should beat him in it.
07:56He should beat Andy Reid to Arrowhead Stadium every day.
08:00You've got to have that attitude.
08:01You do.
08:01Does he have that attitude?
08:03If you're getting your second chance, which many people don't get, you are,
08:06and this team believes in you.
08:07This is like third or fourth now.
08:09Whatever it is now.
08:09But if they're believing in you, which clearly they have.
08:12Right.
08:12And you know you're the dude and you're going to be counted on.
08:14Right.
08:15Yeah.
08:16Get in there early, stay late, do whatever you can.
08:18This is your career.
08:19You have the ability.
08:20Many, you know the odds, Bob.
08:23Going and playing college football, going to the NFL, it's very slim.
08:26Very slim.
08:27From high school to college to the NFL, it gets very slim.
08:29Yes.
08:29You're one of the few chosen people in America.
08:32Right.
08:32To have the ability to play in the National Football League
08:34and play for a team that has Super Bowl aspirations every single year.
08:38And you're that number one guy on that team.
08:41You got to take it to heart, man.
08:43You do.
08:43You got to take it to heart.
08:44Because if you don't, the team shouldn't take heart in you.
08:47Right.
08:47You don't take heart in that, they should not take heart in you.
08:49Well, and the other thing too, Jay, with all of this is that, you know,
08:52he's been given how many different opportunities to take advantage of this.
08:55Right.
08:55He's been given opportunity after opportunity after opportunity after opportunity.
09:00And he's the poster child for the people I talk about in sports
09:03that just continue to allow guys to get away with stuff.
09:06And we don't put down discipline.
09:08Right.
09:08From the time they're little kids, we tell them they're great.
09:10We pass them in school.
09:11We look the other way.
09:12We have, you know, the cleaner, the wolf, however you want to describe it,
09:15behind cleaning up messes that these guys make.
09:17And we continue to keep them eligible and let them play.
09:20And then you get the situations like this where there's nothing we can do.
09:23And so it really does start younger.
09:25It starts with discipline younger, not letting guys and girls and whoever
09:28get away with, you know, stuff off the field because they're good on the field.
09:33And these guys and gals become great athletes and they think they can get away
09:37with anything.
09:37And then you get to this point where you just can't anymore.
09:40He gets away with it because he's in his mid-20s.
09:42Yeah.
09:42I'll tell you what, when he gets to his late 20s, 29 or 30, you don't get away
09:46with it anymore.
09:47You get cut.
09:47Yeah.
09:47That's what happens in the NFL.
09:49They give you chances when you're mid-20s because you still have something left.
09:52But trust me, once you get to 29 or 30, they don't play anymore.
09:56Right.
09:56You're gone.
09:57You're done.
09:57Yeah.
09:58They don't care anymore about you.
09:59Absolutely.
09:59It's a meek right now.
10:00It's with you.
10:01You're in your mid-20s.
10:02There's going to be a chance.
10:03If this was the attitude in the late 20s, early 30s, gone.
10:07Yeah, absolutely.
10:08And I'll also tell you this.
10:09He's probably never going to sign that elusive contract.
10:12He's going to get, you know, Tyree Kill type deals where essentially the
10:15contract is a roster bonus.
10:17If you're here, we'll pay you.
10:18If not, we owe you nothing.
10:20You owe us nothing.
10:21A lot of incentives because the NFL could beg you.
10:24His next suspension is going to be probably most of the year or a year.
10:27If it happens again.
10:28If it happens again.
10:29Which you can't say it can't.
10:30Right.
10:30Because it keeps happening.
10:31It keeps happening to Rasheed Rice.
10:33I would say he's probably going to do something else because that's the path
10:36that he's shown us.
10:37I hope he learned.
10:37But by learning is by showing up early, not doing things, not breaking your
10:41probation.
10:42That's learning.
10:42That's learning.
10:43So he's not showing.
10:44He's learning.
10:44Yeah.
10:44The marijuana, no big deal.
10:46I get it.
10:46But it was part of your probation.
10:47It's part of your probation.
10:48You don't do it.
10:48You can't do it.
10:49It's part of your probation.
10:50And that's the kind of stuff that you just look at and shake your head and go,
10:52God, there's so many people that would kill for this opportunity.
