00:00All right, let's let's talk a little Chiefs football.
00:02I'm sure we'll revisit the text line at some point.
00:04But the future for coaches in the league, I think we've talked a lot about the NFL has tried these
00:11different what they call accelerator programs.
00:13Right. The minority hires and trying to have relationships develop between some minorities in the league with ownership for future,
00:21you know, head coaching, head coaching gigs.
00:23Right. And it was pointed out, and I think over at Airwad Pride, they were going through this, that the
00:29special opportunity, as they're calling it at the owners meetings in Orlando.
00:33Once again, Eric, the enemy was part of this accelerated program that is geared towards minorities trying to develop their
00:42relationships.
00:43How about you? No, look, I think it's great that they're doing the program.
00:46Aren't we at the point now, like, hasn't that ship sailed, though, from a head coaching standpoint for Eric B.
00:52And I mean, that's not like I'm surprised we're even even come back up.
00:56I agree that the ship is sailed. Like, I don't I don't even know what the circumstances would have to
01:01entail.
01:01Like, he's the offensive coordinator for the next three years in which the number one offense, number one offense, number
01:06one offense.
01:07And then Andy retires. And then what? The hire a 60 year old head coach.
01:11I mean, maybe that would at least make it plausible.
01:14Does this not feel like this is where I genuinely I felt bad for him the first time and I
01:18feel bad for him this time.
01:20This feels like a humiliation ritual. Why are they why put him in the NFL accelerator program?
01:25You don't have other qualified young black or minority head coaches that you can have in this program that maybe
01:32you can try to actually resolve this issue.
01:34You have with minority hiring practice in the NFL rather than put somebody through the ringer who already got chewed
01:40up and spit out by this system.
01:42Like, and that part of it does because it doesn't look and if anybody ever had any question, he wanted
01:47to ever be a head coach.
01:49I always thought that was stupid to begin with. He clearly does, but I'm not sure what his pathway would
01:53be.
01:54The only I mean, yeah, I mean, is it is it does it matter, though, that he's going to the
01:58program again?
01:58I mean, it's it's it's not like there's a limitation, right?
02:00I mean, it doesn't say that you can only have one person representing your team.
02:05In fact, the Chiefs have two individuals going to this to this meeting, right?
02:10So I don't know why there's certainly no harm in going again.
02:14No, there's yeah, there's nothing. It doesn't hurt you.
02:17You attend you do all this stuff, but I guess case scenario for Eric Bambi is what the offense takes
02:21off and it takes off for two or three years.
02:23Andy re-retires and he's a legitimate candidate.
02:26And by then he gets an action.
02:27But but in the in the case of like this accelerator program, you know, you shouldn't have to go through
02:32that to get hired by the Chiefs.
02:34Why? I'm not saying, you know, I should have to go.
02:36Or is he willing to be a college head coach or, you know, like, is he willing to go down
02:41to the level that we talked about before that he should be entertaining?
02:45You know, like, I just don't understand this idea of and look, if he wants to do it, no shame
02:49against him.
02:50That's fine. Like, he obviously has to agree to go through it, but it just feels like a weird offer
02:54by the NFL to do it.
02:56And like, I don't know, I just feel bad. I feel bad that he never got an opportunity.
03:00I thought he deserved one at the time.
03:01And then, of course, what happens with coaches all the time is which which is if you miss the window
03:06in which you should have had a chance to become a head coach, that time just slowly slips away.
03:12What also stands out, though, is the NFL has done, despite many attempts, nothing to actually help their minority hiring
03:19practices.
03:20It has not gotten better. It hasn't even, like, moved the needle like they're offering up draft picks.
03:26They're offering up accelerator programs. They're trying all this stuff. None of it's changed any.
03:31I don't want to get too deep in the weeds on this, but like it is.
03:34So the NFL has this accelerator program and it went away for, I don't know, was it a year or
03:39whatever?
03:40And it's not just for, like, they've revised it. They used to just be for minority candidates.
03:47And if you, I'm looking at the list of coaches that are a part of this, this accelerator program is
03:52not just geared towards minorities.
03:54So it's just anybody who wants to be a coach?
03:55I mean, it's, I mean, frankly, it's got a bunch, a couple of white dudes on the list.
03:58So it's obviously not. I mean, it's, if we're being real, like it's, it's, it's got a, it's got Mike
04:06Kafka.
04:07Oh yeah. Part, part of that.
04:09Another guy who people thought would have had a head coaching job by now, but hasn't moved on.
04:12I believe that are, that are part of the program as well.
04:15I don't know. It's interesting to see where this thing goes.
04:17I mean, he's not, I mean, if you're betting, if I was betting, we'd say Eric B and Emil never
04:21become a head coach.
04:23But if the chiefs is only chance for college, would a college team take them with a hair, a 60
04:27year old?
04:27I don't know. How old was Lance Leipold when he got hired by Kansas?
04:30Yeah. But Lance Leipold had a, has a long track record of history in college football.
04:35So I know Lance is five years older than EB right now. Yeah.
04:39So we, and Lance was probably hired when he was 57 years old.
04:42Plus he went on UCLA. It didn't work at all. It didn't seem like the players didn't vibe with it.
04:47I don't know if maybe that the college, the college age kids don't fit his coaching style.
04:55It feels like his best chance. Honestly, if he wants to get a legit shot at it,
04:59it feels like it would be not with the chiefs, but if he's on a, if he was on a
05:03different staff,
05:03but let's say that was the whole thing with the commanders.
05:06Yeah. But yeah, but I mean, I, I wonder if the, if that's the, if he gets a true shot
05:11at it,
05:11it'll be one of those,
05:12the coach is fired in the middle of the season and they promote him and he has five games
05:16and then have those five games are the tryout for him to be a head coach.
05:19And then that's the best chance he might get now.
05:21Yeah. I just assume if all goes well,
05:23he's going to be the OC in Kansas city throughout the rest of Andy Reed's career.
05:27And then maybe they give it to him. I don't know.
05:29Whenever that day comes at Andy retires, then we'll be talking about whether or not he,
05:33you know, gets an interview, whether or not he's a legitimate candidate and all that kind of stuff.
05:36So that to me would be the, the, the path, the only path I could ever see now for him
05:42becoming one.
05:42I think the ship has sailed, but that would be the path where the offense is great.
05:46All of a sudden for a couple of years, three years from now, Andy Reed, four years from now,
05:50hangs it up. And then he's a legitimate candidate.
05:52Then, and then we have the conversation, whether or not that's the right hire at the time.
05:54Yeah. I mean, again, it like from a chief's perspective, this is the problem to be like
06:00if Andy retires in three years, I don't want a 60 year old head coach.
06:03Like, and that, and not because it's Eric B to me. I don't want any 60 year old head coach
06:08and period. And not the EB. It wouldn't be one of the choices, one of the options, but
06:13you have Patrick Mahomes. If for whatever reason, Kyle Shanahan or Sean McVay are available.
06:18It doesn't matter how good the offense is looked. You're going to go after that coach.
06:20Yeah. Well, like we talked about this when it related to in goal. I think you were surprised
06:24when we talked about this before this, this was the single biggest reason why I didn't
06:27like the giants hiring of John Harbaugh. I was like, he's 63. Are you sure that it
06:33had, like, it's not that crazy that it could just be a Pete Carroll situation. And part
06:37of the reason they hadn't had success in Baltimore is the game just moved past his
06:40ass. Like, that's not crazy is maybe it's just to write the ship in New York and just
06:44try to get them to at least be. Yeah. Not like, not that they've been the laughingstock
06:48the Raiders have been, but if I were New York and I had a young, you know, like I, I
06:51think
06:52I might've been looking for a up and coming offensive line, not 63 year old will be 64
06:58by the time the season starts John Harbaugh. Like, and it might work for a season or an
07:02individual season, but then it's always the same thing. How many years do you get? Or
07:06like, how many do you get to, you know, like how many years of winning before you got to
07:10find a different head coach to continue that thing? And I don't know. It's a tough spot
07:13for Eric being to me. I just thought it was interesting that he was going back through the
07:15program. Good for him. If he still wants to become a head coach, I hope he finds some pathway
07:20to it. I think the only way would likely be college and probably small college drew as
07:24you had mentioned. Yeah. Yeah. To start off with, I would say so for sure. So I don't
07:28know if it'll ever come to that on the other end. We got more news after this show ended
07:31yesterday. She rice, we finished the show. We knew where she rice was going to jail for
07:3530 days. We knew it was for a violation of probation for testing positive for marijuana.
07:41What we did not yet know was he also had off season knee surgery to clean up some loose
07:46bodies in his knee that was going to sideline him for multiple months that he will now have
07:51to begin the rehab process of from jail. And I think you and I came to the same conclusion,
07:56which is this makes him look even dumber. This makes your decision making as it relates
08:03to that even worse. I was mad enough at the decision making yesterday. Now to find out that
08:09he has to rehab a surgically repaired knee from jail for the next 30 days. It's like, what
08:15were you thinking? Why, why, and what were you thinking? What part of this process made
08:22the same? It's just like, you know, some of it goes back to yesterday, which is just
08:25not stupid. He doesn't, he, he consistently makes poor decisions, plain and simple. There's
08:32no, there's no, you know, excuse of, Oh, I, I had the surgery and I needed to smoke some
08:38weed for pain or whatever that this guy continues to make bad decision after bad decision. And as
08:45far as the surgery part of it, yeah, then there's a real football implication to it as well,
08:49because you're right. There's no way you're going to have the same rehab behind bars, literally
08:55behind bars as you would. If you were in the chief's facility on a daily basis during OTAs
09:01getting work on the, they don't let you use those stretchy bands. My guess is why you're
09:05behind bars to, I can't use those as a weapon. I'm getting elastic bands. Let them use weights.
09:09I have no idea. What does Dallas County jail have amenity wise? That's not right. They call
09:15it in, in jail. Is it worse to be in County or would you rather, you don't want to go
09:19to
09:19prison. I have, you're asking me. I was just, as if I had some knowledge of the difference
09:24between County and, and come on, I I'm guessing just being behind bars for 30 days sucks either
09:30way. Yeah, I would say so. And I don't know, like I imagine there's more freedom in jail because of
09:35most, most of the people are awaiting trials. None of the suit doing, and I don't know whether
09:40or not, and I don't know the size or scope of these or which facility he's going to be in
09:45or any of those
09:46things in between. But I do know that it's not good to rehab an injury from jail, no matter, even
09:51if
09:51they gave him the stretchy bands, Alex, and he's got nothing but time to rehab the thing. He's got
09:57no one to monitor him. He's test the strength of, do you think that they would allow a visitation
10:03from Rick Berholzer? Like, Hey, I get an hour. No, I'm just asking. No, I'm just asking. Hold on.
10:10Get him on the visitor's list. I'm literally just asking. Sorry. The chiefs are not flying.
10:15Hey man, this guy's got a serious down to the Dallas County jail to do rehab. I'm just,
10:21could you imagine that's wild one? He doesn't, you know, like, Oh my goodness. No, I'm guessing
10:30he, you know, he's, he probably can be told some certain stretches and things he can do to try to
10:34use his only focus should be lifting weights and rehabbing the knee, but there's no way you're
10:39getting the same treatment. Someone on the text line, multiple people saying County jail, way worse
10:44than prison. It's a, I mean, in a, in a lot of ways, it's people from all those beds, people
10:50coming off drugs, people waiting trial, like people waiting very serious trial. Like it's all over the
10:55place. I mean, the beds in St. Joe for training camp are going to feel like he's staying at the
10:59Ritz Carlton by the time he gets up there after what he's sleeping on right now. Well, and sometimes
11:03County it's like, sometimes they do like the, you know, tent city outside where like, you know,
11:08you just get a cop, you know, I don't know what, again, someone says County typically has little
11:13to no amenities. It is kind of funny. Amenities. Amenities. Why are there any amenities? Well,
11:20you know, like you got to keep people in there, you know, you can't just lock them up every single
11:24second. That's no good. There's a, I'm actually pulling up a YouTube video. There's like somebody
11:28who did like a day thing in Dallas County where it's like, it's got all the video, you know,
11:33like one of those like TV specials or whatever. Maybe that'll give us some idea, but I don't,
11:36I mean, I still imagine you'd rather be in County than jail or prison, right? Or County
11:41jail. Time for show research, Cody. Go ahead. You want me to spend a day in County? Yeah. Let
11:45us know. Thank you. Let us know. Could you, man? I, first off, I assuming that's not allowed.
11:51I don't think I could just volunteer to be like, I'd like to spend one day in County. I don't
11:54think so. Cody. No. Someone says most new jails don't have weights at all because they can
11:59be bad weapons when used incorrectly. So they don't have access to weights at all anymore.
12:03Is that true? I don't know. I mean, I know that there's
12:06like some, you can get some like iPad or computer access or this kind of stuff. But again, it's
12:12limited to the amount of time that you have it. I just, I, I was even more frustrated with him
12:17after learning that yesterday. And I'm telling you right now that knee thing is going to loom
12:22the entire year. If he misses, Oh, she rises out for three days of training camp practices,
12:27knees a little sore, recovering from it. Be like, yeah, maybe it wouldn't be sore. Had you been able
12:31to exercise it properly for 30 straight days? It could be week 16. And they say he misses
12:37the game because his knee hurts back. Well, maybe if not, maybe if you were available and
12:40may maybe be feeling fine because I, and again, it's probably not, it's a minor knee operation.
12:47It's not different than a lot of other guys have, but it's just like not having that availability
12:51and not in addition to that, it just makes the decision-making even worse. I will say this
12:55based on this text line that we got going right now, 9-1-3-5-8-6-7-9-6
12:59-5. We got a lot of,
13:00um, we got to have experienced individuals with a lot of knowledge about the, uh, the, uh, the
13:08judicial system or at least the jail system, I should say, not the judicial system, the jail system,
13:12uh, that exists. A lot of, a lot of people arguing with each other on the text line and say
13:16that guy
13:17that texted, that's not right. People are very, very passionate. Can you imagine if people could
13:21actually respond individually to people? Oh, it would be a mess. I wish they could respond to other
13:24people's texts. That'd be great. Well, that's the situation with the YouTube and Twitch
13:28chants. Yeah. Yeah. Now the Sean McCoy was talking about this on, who was he doing the podcast with?
13:35Who's he doing? This is his podcast. There's somebody else on the audio. Emmanuel Acho. And
13:38then somebody also said TG Houshmanzada does a couple of nights with him during the week as well.
13:42This was them talking about Rasheed Rice. I've never personally smoked weed before. A lot of my homeboys
13:47did. They must love it, man. If you go smoke weed to go for 30 days in jail, you must
13:52really love it.
14:02You know what I mean? You must really love it. No blunt is worth 30 days in jail to me,
14:08bro. That's crazy.
14:09And I don't know what type of brand. I know it's a lot of different brands. It's a Cali. But
14:12where
14:12it's from? 30 days worth? In 30 days, he's going to be back to play with the Chiefs, right? He
14:18already know the offense. He know Andy Reid. Andy Reid knows brothers like to smoke that
14:21green. He knows that. And he understands that. But who don't understand that is Rasheed Rice.
14:27You cannot smoke the green because you are in trouble, son. So when I look at this young
14:32brother, I'm like, damn. Put myself in his shoes. Phone ring. Ring ring. Yo, what up? What you
14:39doing? I'm just relaxing. You know what I'm saying? Yo, you can't smoke. I know. If you get caught
14:49his 30 days, do you think his one, he may never talk to the media about it anyway or say,
14:58I'm not
14:58going to answer questions. I'm guessing he's going to say he's moving. If he answered a question about
15:03it publicly, do you think his reason would be my knee hurt after the surgery? I didn't think about
15:07it. Or you just be like, I'm sorry, I made a mistake. I didn't, you know, like, I mean, he
15:11can't
15:12claim he didn't know that he can't smoke weed. It's part of his probation. If that's the case,
15:16then he's even dumber than we thought, but I don't know. For the Sean McCoy to say puff puff pass
15:22is the name of the party. He and Josh Gordon should have. I mean, it was crazy. Like when that
15:28in
15:28Drew, you weren't in sports radio at the time, but like that Josh Gordon story at the time was nuts
15:31because it was just like, like, just stop. And at the time, obviously like it looks in retrospect,
15:37it looks kind of stupid because most of the guys in the league were doing it and he certainly wasn't
15:42alone. And they have now since said, it doesn't matter in the NFL. They don't care. But again,
15:47this is like a, it's the criminal part of it versus, and the legal part of it. Not that the
15:52NFL
15:53cares. The NFL doesn't care, but his probate, you know, like the probation part of it did and
15:59mattered and he still did it. And he got tossed it. So I mean, he's in there. It's crazy. He's
16:03in
16:03there right now for another 30 days, assuming he's going to get up until June 16th to serve the full
16:0730.
16:08Yeah. Well, we'll see. Yeah. Cause I, that part, you know, people talk to this all the time. They
16:11let people out early from County for overcrowding or a million other reasons. The chiefs, I mean,
16:17I don't know. Look, we we've got chiefs contributors who know the way that things have been going for
16:20the chiefs the last five years or so. We could honestly just have a permanent lawyer on call
16:24for us to help us anytime there's legal issues related to sports teams in this city. Yeah,
16:29you're right. We probably should just like find a local lawyer to partner up with.
16:33Like anytime we, anytime something happens, you know, with Rasheed Rice, we need, we need you
16:38to call in immediately. County jail and prison. We're just, we're trying to debate the amenities.
16:43Stay off the damn weed. In this case, in this case, that's what we're talking about. But of
16:49course it's more about all the other, yeah, Carrington song. I'm singing a couple of lines
16:53from, because I got high. That was great. Carrington was great with that. Yeah. That's two different
16:57times we've played songs on this show from other people, Cody, that have not made you look good.
17:02Carrington song. Some people said was better. We had Matt Gafsky play two lines and Matt's a
17:07genius. That's not fair. Don't compare me to that. Okay. Okay. I'm just saying. Carrington's
17:12was good. It was really, really good.
