00:00know that Rasheed Rice is going to play for the Kansas City Chiefs this week this year we know
00:04he's going to be a receiver on this team they're not going to move on from even though he is
00:08you know serving some time for failing a drug test of marijuana but Albert Breer says I think
00:15they probably handle him like Dallas handled George Pickens let's tag him and let's see
00:20that was Albert Breer regarding the Chiefs and Rasheed Rice on 98.5 the Sports Hub
00:26leads to the question do you do that with Rasheed Rice or is it this year and good riddance
00:33sometimes I wonder what like things people watch right like what game are you watching tonight
00:37what game are you watching right now are you watching the same thing that I'm watching right
00:41now because as long as far as I'm concerned franchising Rasheed Rice and committing any
00:46sort of money to Rasheed Rice is something that would be foolish by the Chiefs he has shown he's
00:53a good football player but he has also shown he can't survive off the field he makes mistake after
00:59mistake after mistake after mistake and if you give somebody the franchise tag regardless of if it's
01:05for one year or if it's for you know five years you're still committing money to this individual
01:11what 20 some million dollars right that's it that's a 20 plus million dollar automatic commitment
01:17that you're giving to Rasheed Rice if you sign him to that franchise tag and based on his situation
01:22and where he's been in life he's probably signing that franchise tag so you're like 23 million dollars
01:28in on Rasheed Rice do you feel good about that if you franchise him in March that he's going to
01:34be
01:34there in September for you when to take the field do you believe that Rasheed Rice is going to be
01:39able
01:39to stay out of trouble off the field he has shown us his body of work and his body of
01:44work so far has
01:45shown he's not capable of staying you know not in trouble off the field he's not capable of doing what
01:51he
01:51needs to do to be a nice normal adult off the field why am I going to franchise tag him
01:56what I would do
01:57for Rasheed Rice is pretty simple here's the deal fella here's what we're going to do with you we're
02:01going to offer you the league minimum for a fourth year wide receiver and we're going to load you up
02:06with incentives we're going to have roster bonuses we're going to have catch bonuses they're all going
02:10to be incentives that are easy to reach and if you show up and play most likely you will reach
02:16all
02:16of these incentives but we're flipping the onus back on you we're not investing any money whatsoever
02:23so if we give him the league minimum for a fourth year wide receiver probably about five hundred
02:27thousand dollars is what that league minimum will be now that's what you're investing in Rasheed Rice
02:33a half million dollars or six hundred thousand dollars like it's not a lot of money it looks like
02:37is it 1.2 either okay fine 1.2 million dollars invested in Rasheed Rice is a lot better than
02:4425 million
02:45dollars with the franchise tag and that's what I would do and if somebody wants to pay this guy
02:49and give him a long-term contract by all means go ahead and do it because I'm not comfortable
02:54investing any money right now into Rasheed Rice until he can prove that he can be an adult off the
03:00field
03:00and so that's where my contract would be with him you can stay here league minimum and a lot of
03:05incentives that can get you up to about 20 million dollars a year but the onus is going to be
03:09on you
03:09to show up to make plays and to do your job and to be an adult and if you do
03:15all that you'll reach
03:16the majority of these incentives and you'll walk away with a nice chunk of change but I am not
03:20guaranteeing this guy any sort of money fellas what do you believe in more Cole Reagan stays healthy
03:24or Rasheed Rice stays out of trouble neither okay it's hard to say you know I guess yeah I guess
03:34I'll go
03:34rice because he can change like Reagan's can't control it right Reagan's can't control but can
03:38rice I mean he's had these opportunities back and he's still finding himself can he you know is the
03:42answer will obviously yeah will he no it doesn't look like it no not not right now but right no
03:47I
03:47mean also like from a football perspective like I think Rasheed Rice is an absolute stud and like I
03:52think he's great but how great is he is it over a whole season is he a 1a is he
03:57a 2b like what
03:58what is Rasheed Rice we still don't fully know and last season like you kind of throw that all
04:04away because when he came in like yeah he was great for a few weeks and then the team completely
04:08went to crap right I'm not going to put that all on Rasheed Rice so again you kind of throw
04:11out last
04:11year and then of course the the the injury before that of him missing games then his rookie season he
04:16didn't really get going till halfway through the year so I need to see okay Travis Kelsey's now 36
04:21years old we know he's not going to be our number one option to go to guy can you be
04:25that in an
04:26offense like this yes obviously we'll have a great hopefully 1200 yard rusher and Ken Walker
04:30but other than that are you going to be that 12 to 1400 yard receiver for 17 games whom homes
04:35can
04:35trust uh I think the answer is yes but I still have to see that before I even start talking
04:39about
04:39uh a contract forget the off the field stuff but yeah franchise tag hell no that was 27 million
04:46dollars for George Pickens I ain't spending yeah I'm not spending that kind of money and that's only
04:49going yeah yeah it's only going to get higher but I would not hesitate to give it to somebody
04:54who has deserved it who has earned it who has shown that if I invest in you he's still going
05:01to go out there and earn that money it's one of the hardest things that general managers talk about
05:05is giving somebody that long-term deal and making sure that they're going to still go out there
05:09and earn that money and earn that deal as they continue to go forward instead of just sitting
05:15back and getting fat and happy where she rice has shown nobody that he's even capable of getting a
05:21deal like that because he has shown that he's not a reliable player and if the Chiefs were to invest
05:27long-term into Rasheed Rice you know after this season I would probably question that and go are you
05:32really sure this is money wisely invested into a player you can find another wide receiver now to
05:39Max point we don't know who the number one target is going to be after this season because
05:43there's a good chance both Kelsey and Rice are no longer part of this equation that's why I have
05:47always been on trade for George Pickens trade for AJ Brown get that guy that's quote-unquote
05:53available now in here sign him to a longer-term contract and then you have your number one in
05:58place moving forward because I don't think you can rely on Rasheed Rice to be your number one and
06:02if you are then we're basically doing what the Royals are doing and relying on something that's not
06:06real I think the best thing that the Chiefs can have is Rasheed Rice go out there and absolutely
06:10just shred the competition this year because then you will have that like I want everybody to
06:16remember I guess I could say remember March 26th because that's where we're at today having this
06:22conversation if Rice goes out there and has what Mac is you know advocated for maybe 95 and 1300 and
06:30eight touchdowns right like that's Pro Bowl caliber numbers that's going to be a solid year for a wide
06:34receiver in the NFL no matter who you play for what position of receiver you play that's a great year
06:39yep and it's a contract year so like that's the best thing the Chiefs could hope for because it
06:46will help them out on the field and then situationally off the field now a lot of people will be
06:51out there
06:52and say hey don't burn me on the contract year we've seen this before plus we know you guys may
06:56not want to sign him with all his off the field troubles but we've also seen the NFL acts like
07:00they
07:00care about that stuff but they really don't they'll give a guy another chance in another area I mean Miami
07:05was
07:05like Tyreek come on over we got Jalen Waddle we got you let's see out neither one are there anymore
07:09but they still paid and gave the chance we've seen that with Antonio Brown in the past sure hey the
07:14Raiders we'll take you fine you're a stud receiver we know you're crazy but hey come play wide receiver
07:18for us Tampa Bay did it too then he took his clothes off gave the peace sign walked out of
07:21the Meadowlands
07:22so I think that's not going to be as severe of an option when you think about what the Chiefs
07:26could do
07:27but if he goes out there and plays and they use him to that ability do it like the Royals
07:31did with James Shields
07:31we know this is our last year with you we're going to use every single fiber and DNA that you
07:37have in
07:37that arm to just get us to where we need to go and after that we can move on and
07:41adjust to what we are
07:42in the future that to me is the Chiefs plan this year with Rushy Rice go out there use him
07:46abuse him
07:47put him on the field as much as you can I don't care if you have 35 nothing in the
07:51second half
07:51leave him on the field and let him get his numbers up because then he becomes that more attractive
07:55and that more sellable in the future and I don't need to have him back because a lot of people
07:59will
08:00switch places I know they will they'll say well he's got it he stayed in trouble all year he's
08:04deserved it no what about the other three times outside of one time that you saw so me once fool
08:09me twice you know what they say like this guy has a track record of being you know not correct
08:15off the
08:16field he's not reliable he's not reliable right and so even if he does get out of prison and he
08:21comes
08:21back and he plays well and has a good season let's to Dusty's point let's not let a good season
08:27blind us
08:28of the reason why we're having these conversations we've had Rushy Rice conversations not because of
08:35how good he's been on the field or could be on the field we've had these conversations wondering
08:39whether or not he's going to be on the field and when that's the biggest thing that you're talking
08:44about with a player I just don't see how you can invest long term in any sort of way in
08:50that player
08:51after the season regardless of what he's done because as we know if he's got the ability to play big
08:56he's
08:57got the ability to do great things he doesn't have the ability to be a general member of society
09:02and that's where I am with Rushy Rice sorry to the smart ass texter May 26th not March 26th you
09:08are not listening to a rerun but for the first time in 27 years the Knicks are going to the
09:12NBA finals
09:13this comes from Sam Block before we get into one word with Mac Maury Indiana won the national
09:17championship in football Sam Darnold won the Super Bowl the Knicks are the NBA finals his advice
09:22apply for your dream job buy your mom a house hit up your crush 2026 is the year to just
09:27go for it all
09:28that's exactly right
09:29I love it
09:30I guess
