00:00Hello and welcome to this national James weather update for Monday. Are you sick of the heat in the northeastern parts? Are you sick of the cold in the southeastern parts? I have got good news on both of those fronts for you. Over in the west we've got the heat today before a cool change moves through. In the southeast we've got yet another cold outbreak that is moving through. However, there is heat on the way. It's coming on Wednesday and Thursday. This cold outbreak here does have enough oomph behind it to make it all the way up into southern Queensland.
00:29So there is a break from the heat coming in through there. Okay, so let's have a look day by day. What to expect? You can see these blue lines here indicate the cold air by the end of Monday. Yes, that is nearly up on the Queensland border. So we're going to feel a cool change work its way all the way through New South Wales and into parts of Queensland as well. Meanwhile, in the southeast it is freezing. It is literally snowing in the Alps. Yet another cold outbreak. Welcome to summer. Over in the west of the country here is the high pressure system here sitting just south of South Australia. So we get our cold air moving up through here.
00:59It flips and it comes around the other side and the heat is there. Now have a look at this trough line that runs down in through there. By the end of the day that has moved inland. So this is the last day of the heat that is on the coast there. We've got cooler conditions that are coming in. All of that is going to slowly move eastwards. Let's have a look.
01:15In terms of showers, thunderstorm activity that has contracted northwards. Now we're getting showers moving in through here. Into Tuesday. That is all that is left across the southeast and these eastern parts of New South Wales. And it is early. So that is a clearing trend. High pressure by the end of the day is over western parts of New South Wales. No wet weather at all in southeast Queensland. In fact, it is confined right up into the north.
01:38This trough here doesn't have a lot of wet weather with it. High pressure moving eastwards. So by Wednesday that is out here. So we're mild along the coast. We are warmer in the southeast. Have a look at our red and our purple lines that are there. Starting to come down into the southeast of the country. So temperatures are going to jump up.
01:55The trough is here. That is the end of the heat. So let's watch where that is going by. The end of Thursday is here across the southeast. So it's moved through the majority of Victoria by the end of Thursday. So Wednesday and Thursday, they are the hot days in the southeast. Now we'll linger further north. That's only just in through there by then. So there we have Thursday. Also, look, this is a bit of a change. The last the last changes that we've had moved through. So weather systems that have moved through have brought a lot of rain because they've been connected to tropical moisture.
02:24This one is not. It hardly has anything with it at all. So we're starting to see a bit of a change through that. And the first two weeks of December may be on the dry side for the majority of the country. So keep that in mind. This is moving past on Thursday into Friday. We've still got all of that warm air that is here. So it is coming back for New South Wales and Queensland. But the southeast only sees it for two days. Here we have the next cold outbreak. Yes, what do you know? Yes, it is December, but they are still able to come up. As long as the high is back through here, they can come across the southeast.
02:53Meanwhile, heat is all in through here. So there's Friday into Saturday by the end of Saturday. That is knocking on the southeast door in through there with snow to low levels once again in Tasmania.
03:04So that's moving through on Saturday. Meanwhile, there is heat that is pouring down into here into Sunday. That doesn't bring a lot of wet weather with it, but we will see showers and thunderstorms working in through here.
03:15As the next high pressure system comes in, trough is down in through there. Next heat moves into the southwest. We'll go into next Monday. And you'll notice there's not a lot of wet weather. The first two weeks of December are looking like they're on the dry side.
03:29What is that going to add up to? Now, we've got this cold outbreak moving across the southeast. That's the majority of the wet weather in through there. For the rest of it, it's really late. It's Saturday that we're seeing the next bit and it's nothing that is heavy.
03:39The heavier falls are confined to the very far north. There's not even a lot done in the southwest either. As always, head to you for the latest.
