00:00Hello and welcome to this National James Weather Update for Friday.
00:03We have got a cold outbreak that is moving across the southeast.
00:07How can you tell? It is this speckled cloud that is still over the bite here, but is about to move in.
00:12We have severe weather warnings for damaging wind gusts across all of these yellow areas,
00:17not just elevated parts, not just at the coast, but well inland too,
00:20particularly with showers and thunderstorms as they move through.
00:24They can bring some big wind gusts as they come in.
00:26All of this is going to slowly move eastwards.
00:29Now, the east coast, southeast Queensland, going to feel the chill in the air,
00:33but won't see any of this wet weather.
00:35All right, so let's have a look at just how cold this is.
00:37I thought I'd show thickness here.
00:39This is in the early hours of Saturday morning,
00:41and this is 1,200 metres in terms of how low the snow can fall, 900 metres down to 600 metres.
00:47So it could be potentially a little bit lower than this here.
00:50It's a cold outbreak that is coming in, low-level snow,
00:53and look how far up across the northern New South Wales ranges that cold air is going to go.
00:58We keep moving in that direction as we move through the hours of Saturday.
01:02So that's what we're looking at.
01:04Let's go day by day to have a bit of a look here.
01:06I'll just move this across.
01:08Here is Friday.
01:09Here is the cold outbreak coming across.
01:10I've kept those thickness, the snow level lines on there,
01:13so you can get a feel of what's happening in the upper atmosphere.
01:16So all of the wet weather coming in through here, not reaching the east coast, not reaching Queensland.
01:21In terms of the southeastern parts of Victoria, not really reaching there, but everywhere else, yes, it is.
01:26So there's cold air, there's showers, there's thunderstorms, there's very gusty winds.
01:30Over in the west, we're seeing a break.
01:31High pressure is on its way in.
01:33Let's watch what that's going to do.
01:34As we move through Saturday, this is still moving up here.
01:37It's moving right up into the northern parts of New South Wales.
01:40West and on the ranges, not to the east.
01:42That is the dry side of the ranges and the wet weather not making into Queensland.
01:46But still all of that to go in the southeast.
01:49By the end of Saturday, here's high pressure, now moving over the bite.
01:52So by the end of Sunday, that is about here.
01:54But have a look at these thickness lines here, showing another disturbances coming through.
01:59There's no real pattern in terms of the isobars, what's happening at the surface, but upper level there is.
02:04So here we have on Sunday, a bit of wet weather across the southeast.
02:07Nothing like what we're seeing right now.
02:09And that then into Monday.
02:10High pressure is now here.
02:12Having a look at Tuesday, there's another one building, ready to go through.
02:15That comes in on Wednesday.
02:17So there's two more smaller disturbances ready to move across the southeast.
02:21Meanwhile, over in the west here, we've got the next weather system coming in on Wednesday.
02:25And if I take it back a couple of days, with that high that is moving in through here,
02:30we now end up with a disturbance over Queensland here.
02:32So next Monday is when we're going to see a little bit of wet weather return to there.
02:35All righty.
02:37So moving into here, Tuesday.
02:38Wednesday that comes in.
02:40Thursday that moves across.
02:41The southeast takes a bit of a break, but may see that come in at the end of next week.
02:45But this one doesn't look like a big one at this stage.
02:48So totals still to come.
02:49And this is from early on Friday.
02:51We've got 25 to 50.
02:54Anything yellow here?
02:55So still big falls still to come, right up into the ranges here, which is all falling as alpine snow and down to the lower hills too.
03:02Big falls over the western parts of Tasmania as those next disturbances come through during the week there.
03:07And there's this for southeast Queensland as that comes in on Monday next week.
03:11But in the southwest, not much.
03:13And it is later next week that we see that.
