00:00Previously on Project Runway Junior.
00:03This challenge is all about red carpet dreams.
00:06There's one more thing. This is a team challenge.
00:09And you have five hours.
00:11Five hours? Are you kidding me?
00:13We're bringing in reinforcement.
00:16Hey, girl!
00:17Let's go!
00:19It just looks messy. I'm just gonna say it.
00:22It's on the bottom.
00:23Are you crying? Don't cry.
00:25We gotta work.
00:27This is a gown that I have, quite frankly, never seen before.
00:31Katie, Maya, you are both the winners.
00:34Yay!
00:35From the back, this to me looks like a tail.
00:39Matt, I'm sorry you're out.
00:57Oh my gosh.
00:58No, this is really scary.
01:00Oh my gosh, I get so freaked out when all the lights turned out and it's pitch black.
01:04Maya, hold my hand.
01:06We're like, oh great, what is this?
01:08Oh my gosh, it's the Nick City dancers.
01:11Oh my gosh, it's the Nick City dancers.
01:25They're so famous and they're amazing.
01:32I'm getting the vibe that we're gonna be designing some type of dancewear.
01:35That's not what I do, so I'm freaking out.
01:41We wanted to do a dance move, but we knew better.
01:45Wow, thank you ladies.
01:47So designers, as you may have guessed, for your next challenge, you will be working with the iconic Nick's City dancers.
01:56Yay!
01:59Prepidation.
02:00Definitely nerve-wracking, knowing that maybe we're gonna have to design something with spandex and sparkle.
02:06Not only are these women talented, athletic, and beautiful, but they also know how to have a good time.
02:12As you can see, they already have fun and functional performance outfits.
02:16Your task will be to get a little bit more personal with the ladies.
02:20You will each be paired with a dancer, and you will be creating a fashionable look that is not for a performance.
02:27Oh, thank God.
02:29Release.
02:30Hallelujah.
02:31If we had to design a performance outfit, I would die.
02:37I did not want to make anything close to a miniskirt or a crop top, so I'm very relieved.
02:41Each girl has something special in mind, and it is up to the designers to pay attention to your clients and what they are looking for from you.
02:49And you have a point of view as designers, so you're to marry those.
02:55Now let's pair you up with your new clients.
02:57Christina, you'll be paired with...
02:59Pady.
03:00Yay!
03:01Zach, Julia.
03:03Maya, Carrie.
03:04Hi.
03:05Zachary, you'll be paired with Alyssa.
03:07Bridget, Norby.
03:09Samantha, Teal.
03:10Jackson, you're the last designer, and you'll be paired with Jess.
03:14All right, designers.
03:15You will have 30 minutes with your clients in the workroom.
03:18Mini Mood is open, and you will have one day for this challenge.
03:22I can't wait to see what you guys come up with.
03:24I will see you back here on the runway.
03:26Come on, everyone.
03:27Up to the workroom.
03:30So our challenge is to really listen to our client and design something that they love and that they would wear.
03:37But also, it really captures my design aesthetic.
03:39My style is edgy.
03:41Edgy?
03:42Okay.
03:43Yes.
03:44Looking for a fun New Year's Eve outfit.
03:47I wear a lot of black and white open backs, though.
03:51Oh, that's one of my signatures.
03:53Yeah.
03:54You want to go look at the fabrics?
03:55Of course.
03:56I do go into Mini Mood with Carrie to look for fabrics.
03:59This is very cool.
04:01Just to see what kind of things she likes and what kind of fabrics draw her eyes so that I can know in what range of fabrics I should be using.
04:09I'm kind of looking for an outfit for like a Saturday-Sunday brunch in the city.
04:14Are you cool with separates?
04:15Yes.
04:16Two-piece, like a two-piece set.
04:18I'm gonna like try to sketch it out real quick.
04:20I don't know if it'll come out.
04:21For a model, they just get paid to wear whatever if they like it or don't.
04:25But when you have a client, they have to like it.
04:27We should probably do a solid so it doesn't create like too much rest.
04:31Right, right, right.
04:32We agree on doing a skirt and a top.
04:35I'm just hoping that the navy and white will be broad enough for Julia.
04:40So you like the whole bohemian look.
04:41Get up, get ready, get going.
04:42Next summer I'm actually going to Barcelona on a family trip so I just thought something just summer touristy.
04:50Okay.
04:51Norby's bohemian and I'm kind of edgy and I'm really just making something that's the perfect mix between boho and grunge.
04:59I feel like we should make the skirt a little bit tighter, a little bit like long kind of pencil skirt.
05:05I don't know if like for sightseeing if it would, yeah this is more like kind of nice lunch, nice dinner.
05:12I'm definitely concerned about what Norby is going to think of my look.
05:15It's hard to do something bohemian because it's definitely one of my least favorite styles so I'm just going to try to make it as bohemian as I can emotionally make it bohemian.
05:27I'm like going on a vacation with my family and I was just looking for like a summery dress.
05:32I'm not like set on length or anything.
05:35Okay.
05:36I think on top I like more structured and then bottom I like flowy.
05:40Okay.
05:41So I'm going to make a circle skirt with bright colors and then this fancier looking halter top.
05:48Does it rip?
05:49Yep.
05:50Sure.
05:51So I go to school for fashion business and what I want to graduate with is a bachelors in business administration.
05:58I will be like a buyer for a company.
06:00So for me I'd like to wear something very like professional but fun.
06:04I'm thinking of mixing like street wear with professional wear.
06:07Yes.
06:08So maybe like a bomber jacket and then something professional on the bottom.
06:12So basically what like my style is.
06:14It's kind of like what I'm wearing right now.
06:15I love it.
06:16Very street style.
06:17I love denim on denim.
06:18It's like my favorite.
06:19Yes.
06:20I would do that too.
06:21Very good.
06:22So right off the bat too mentioned that she's into denim and I'm like thankful to God.
06:26So we're going to just use denim and then add my type of style into it by using a mesh neoprene.
06:30What colors are you thinking or?
06:33I want something lighter.
06:34Okay.
06:35Because it's for like a wedding anniversary.
06:38I'll be a guest there but I also want to be performing.
06:41I need to create a look that is formal and appropriate for 50th wedding anniversary but also something that is comfortable to perform in.
06:49And that can be really hard.
06:51Okay sounds good.
06:52I'm going to Paris.
06:54Oh my gosh.
06:55For the first time in two weeks.
06:57And it's a girls trip.
06:58My mom and my sister and my cousin.
07:00I like to push the envelope a little bit but still be elegant and refined.
07:05Yes.
07:06Those are my favorite words.
07:07I like it.
07:08We're a good match.
07:10Our styles are perfect for each other.
07:13We're like this.
07:14And so I think we're going to have a great collaboration and we're definitely going to create something
07:18that's both glamorous and unique but also really sophisticated.
07:23Great.
07:24Designers and clients, your consultation time is up.
07:28Alright.
07:29Off we go.
07:30Bye.
07:31Bye.
07:42So how's Bridget coming?
07:43Bridget's coming along well.
07:44How's Jackson?
07:45Jackson's coming along really well.
07:47What are you making with the crazy bright fabric?
07:50It's so annoying.
07:51It's not even hard to do this.
07:52I'm looking at my top and it just doesn't look right.
07:58It looks very poorly constructed.
08:00I'm more of the musliness.
08:01And I'm just not feeling it.
08:03So I decide to scrap it and make a plain black top.
08:08The challenge so far has been really difficult.
08:11I'm just really working on my top and I want to make sure that it looks structured and fitted
08:15and really goes well with my own aesthetic.
08:18But right now it's looking a little dowdy and it's looking kind of business-like.
08:22So I want to change something about it but I just don't know what.
08:28I am so smart sometimes.
08:31Why?
08:32What are you going to do?
08:33Redesign.
08:34How are you going to redesign?
08:36You can't be like, oh I'm so smart and not explain how smart you are.
08:41Well, we'll see.
08:42All right.
08:43I might not be smart.
08:44Okay.
08:45It was so not smart of me to pick out this fabric.
08:50It looks super, super cheap and I do not like it at all.
08:58What a quiet room.
08:59Well, I'm here to check in with you.
09:01I'm eager to understand what you're doing.
09:03All right.
09:05How's Jackson doing?
09:07Jackson's doing good.
09:08Good.
09:09Tell me about your client.
09:10She loves color and so we found this printed geometric print for the skirt.
09:15And I'll have a slit and then in the back these straps kind of criss-cross.
09:20Oh.
09:21Only those will continue all the way down.
09:22When you look at the top and you bring a very critical eye to it, what comments would
09:27you make about the sewing?
09:29It's a little wrinkly.
09:32The sewing difficulty shows.
09:34Yeah.
09:35It's a little janky.
09:37Yeah.
09:38It's a lot janky.
09:43This worries me.
09:47Coming up on Project Runway Junior.
09:49This textile looks cheap.
09:51It's really ho-hum.
09:52It's not very good.
09:54I'm just underwhelmed.
09:57I am completely obsessed with you.
09:59Perfect and polished.
10:00I just don't like it.
10:02This is Project Runway, not Project Bargain Basement.
10:05It's a little janky.
10:10Yeah, a little janky.
10:12It's a lot janky.
10:14This worries me.
10:15Okay.
10:16Step back and look at it and I'm like, oh yeah, that is a little janky.
10:21It's not very wearable.
10:23Is there no other red in there?
10:25I think there might be another red.
10:28Let's go into Mini Mood.
10:30Okay.
10:31I feel very grateful that he takes the time to go to Mini Mood with me and choose a fabric.
10:36What are your thoughts about that?
10:38I like the color, yeah.
10:39I do too.
10:40Seems fairly easy to work with.
10:41Yes.
10:42All right.
10:43Let's go back.
10:44I like the red fabric.
10:45It's more of a deeper red versus a bright red and cotton versus like a silky fabric.
10:50You're decisive?
10:51Yep.
10:52Okay.
10:53Then I'm going to leave you alone.
10:56Petey.
10:57Hi, Tim.
10:58Talk to me.
10:59I'm getting a vibe from you.
11:00Yeah.
11:01You're looking stressed.
11:02What's going on?
11:03Well, so my model, she's going to the 50th wedding anniversary and she wanted something
11:07formal for the wedding, but also something she could dance in.
11:10I started making this dress, but now I'm looking at it, I really don't like it.
11:15So what do you not like about it?
11:17I think it looks really cheap.
11:19I agree with you about this textile.
11:20It looks cheap.
11:21Yeah.
11:22I find this silhouette to be really beautiful.
11:27And this cascade that you're getting from the shoulders down, it drapes beautifully.
11:32I don't see any reason why this wouldn't drape the same way.
11:35I just don't want you to throw the baby out with the bathwater.
11:38I think he's telling me to not completely scrap the whole entire dress.
11:44I still have the patterns from the old dress, and so I can just easily remake that dress.
11:50Thank you so much, Tim.
11:51Carry on.
11:53So my client is Norby, and what I was thinking for her is a day-to-night look.
11:56I'm actually working on a kimono to make it a little more bohemian and dress it down so
12:02she can go sightseeing or meet up with friends.
12:06Everything on the outside, everything on the silhouette of the garment looks very beautifully
12:10done.
12:11Mm-hmm.
12:12What's happening with these darts?
12:13Yeah.
12:14Both in the top and in the skirt.
12:15Yeah, that's my biggest concern right now.
12:17Tell me more about this kimono.
12:19It's just a very basic, very basic kimono.
12:22I mean, I think this is your savior.
12:25We take this away, it's really ho-hum.
12:29I disagree.
12:30I'm really in love with my look.
12:33I was so relieved when I met Teal.
12:35She's like, I'm a huge denim person.
12:37I'm like, oh, okay.
12:39So I'm using this denim for the bottom, and I'm creating this jacket.
12:44It's made out of a mesh neoprene.
12:46I like this textile a lot.
12:48I wanted to do a pop of color that's cohesive with the rest of this.
12:51Mm-hmm.
12:52So I'm still thinking about proportions.
12:54You'd need to.
12:56I think, like, as I was sewing, I put notches into it, and it went a little too far.
12:59But that can be fixed.
13:01I like it.
13:02Okay.
13:03A lot.
13:04Samantha's look is okay.
13:07I like the fabric.
13:08That jacket is a little too bulky, and that orange, it just makes you look like someone who's hunting and doesn't want to get shot.
13:16Thank you, Samantha.
13:18My girl Alyssa really loves very flowy things, and she's wearing this on a night out in Paris for her first trip.
13:26In Paris?
13:27Yeah.
13:28So we wanted a jumpsuit, and there's so much skin up top, we're doing a very flowy pant on the bottom.
13:34What's happening?
13:35Look at the sewing here.
13:37Because you are such a pristine master of execution.
13:43And it means every little thing shows.
13:45Since the judges are so critical on construction right now, I have to make sure that my tailoring is nice and even and perfect.
13:52Who's your client?
13:53So I got Carrie, and she wanted pants because she said she really likes to wear, like, nice fitted pants.
13:59I just will say it's a good looking pant. It's a good shape. It's a good silhouette.
14:03Right now I think it's kind of boring.
14:05The head-to-toe look is boring, but I think it's boring because it's all black.
14:09What are your feelings about the construction of the top?
14:12It's not very good. No.
14:15We both know that the sewing is...
14:18Not good.
14:19Not good, and it's boring. But if you were to work with a different textile, you could replicate the same shape.
14:25It is a bit stressful starting over, but I still think that my look's going to be fine as long as I just keep chugga-chugging along.
14:34Thank you, Maya.
14:35Thank you, Tim.
14:36So my client is Julia, and she wants me to make a garment for her to go to, like, a Saturday-Sunday brunch thing.
14:43She wanted a romper or a dress, so I went with going to, like, a skirt and top.
14:49And I also have doing a cool idea of having a reversible.
14:54I mean, here are my thoughts about it. It's fine. It's, like, it's okay.
15:00All I keep hearing is Tim saying, oh, it's fine. It's a fine garment, and that's not something you want to hear.
15:06Well, we have a crop top, and we have an A-line skirt, which, if it weren't executed in this print, would really be humdrum.
15:18I'm just underwhelmed.
15:20I'm in the most trouble right now because my garment might not be enough.
15:25It just seems so basic.
15:27Coming up on Project Runway Jr.
15:31What can I do in an hour?
15:33Please be careful.
15:34Oh, I really need to start my skirt.
15:36It's gonna come down to the wire.
15:48Well, I certainly want you to stand behind your work, and I want you to feel confident about it.
15:52It just seems so basic.
15:55What would you suggest?
15:58What about some bold graphic waistband?
16:00At least it gives it some punch.
16:02Look, I'm not gonna tell you what to do.
16:04It's not my design.
16:05It's yours.
16:06But you need to wow, and you can do it.
16:08Look how much work you've done.
16:10I am a little bit worried that my garment might not be enough.
16:14I don't know what I'm gonna do yet, but there needs to be something else.
16:19All right, designers.
16:20You have three and a half hours remaining.
16:23Your clients will be in for a fitting, and just continue to work hard and work smart.
16:27Okay?
16:28I love you guys.
16:29I'll see you later.
16:30Bye.
16:31Love you too, Tim.
16:32Hey, Zachary.
16:33I'm gonna get your opinion real quick.
16:34There's this one, and then there's this one.
16:38I feel like you have like 5,000 different options.
16:41I know.
16:42Um, I don't know.
16:43I like both.
16:44I am thinking about ways of how to make it a little bit more wow, but still keeping the
16:50same silhouette and the, like, versatility of it.
16:54You doing better, Petey?
16:55Tim, save me.
16:57Tim saves the soul.
16:58Tim definitely steered me in the right direction.
17:01I just have this little burst of energy now to keep working and make something amazing
17:05to send out on the runway.
17:09Hi!
17:10Gorgeous.
17:12Okay, so it's in pieces right now.
17:14Do you want to try it on?
17:15Yeah.
17:16Okay.
17:17Do you like it?
17:18I love it.
17:19I don't have the skirt done, but I have, like, a prototype of this skirt, so that I can
17:23see if the length is good.
17:24The back of this, I was thinking maybe do something, like, down the middle of your back, like,
17:29a cool detail.
17:30My new top is this sort of white and silvery gold fabric.
17:34You like it?
17:35I'm so happy.
17:36Okay.
17:37I love my look at this point.
17:38At the end of the day, I want to send something down the runway that I'm proud of.
17:41And then we can play with, like, waistband.
17:43I have a very beautiful model, so I don't want to, like, cut her body off.
17:47I don't want it to be, like, one fluid line.
17:50I mean, I think it's perfect.
17:51I think so, too.
17:52Do you like the length, or do you want me to shorten it?
17:54I love this.
17:55This is perfect.
17:56Christina really likes the dress, and I'm really excited to hear that.
18:00She loves color, and she really likes the movement of it, too.
18:03It's so freaking cool.
18:05It's gonna be awesome.
18:06Tio loves everything that I made.
18:08Thank goodness.
18:09I knew she would like it, though.
18:10I just have to make minor adjustments.
18:12I know I could do it, but then again, it's like, oh, I really need to start my skirt.
18:16This is the waistband, and then we can make it smaller, thinner.
18:19All I have to change is the measurements.
18:21I have to take in the skirt a little bit, and same with the top, and I don't think it will be difficult at all.
18:26Bye.
18:28I'm so excited.
18:29Bye.
18:30Bye.
18:31See you tomorrow.
18:36I know what I want to do.
18:37I decide to add the solid blue into the hemline.
18:41Instead of the waistline, it just gives it that extra brow without breaking up the pattern.
18:49After Norby leaves, all I do is the alterations.
18:52I'm hoping to finish the skirt and the bodice, and in the morning, I just want to work on the kimono.
18:57All right, guys.
18:58Time to go.
19:07Let's get back to work.
19:11Hopefully, I'll be able to finish this kimono, but if I don't have the time to, I'm just gonna make it into a really big scarf and put it around her.
19:19There's so much pressure because I need to do the skirt, but I just keep, you know, rethinking measurements so that I make it really big, but then maybe I don't have much time to take it in.
19:28Good morning, designers.
19:29How is everyone?
19:30Good morning.
19:31All right, your clients will be here in 30 minutes.
19:33You'll have 30 minutes with them, and then we're going down to the runway, all right?
19:36So you have an hour to prep.
19:38Okay?
19:39All right.
19:40I'll see you in an hour.
19:41Perfect.
19:43Have fun.
19:44I'm definitely nervous sending down such a simple skirt, but hopefully my top is so cool to the point that that can save me.
19:54How are you?
19:55Oh, my God, you look so cute.
19:57Good.
19:58Let me get this fitting first.
19:59Oh, this looks so cool.
20:00Oh, you like it?
20:01The clients are coming in right now, and I'm still sewing this hem and this zipper.
20:04It's gonna come down to the wire.
20:06I'm a little worried that the hem is gonna be a little too short, but if it is, it is.
20:11Okay, let's go.
20:12Let's go get this bad boy on.
20:15How does it feel?
20:16All right, designers and clients, in 10 minutes, we're going down to the runway, okay?
20:2110 minutes.
20:23Thank you, Tim.
20:24Getting her dress is a little rough.
20:25I mean, I'm noticing all these different fit issues, but we don't have that much time.
20:29It's not the best, but you know what?
20:31What can I do in an hour?
20:33Do you like it?
20:37I definitely think I have a satisfied customer, so I'm really happy with it.
20:41Just sit here.
20:42There's really much nothing for me to do.
20:44Everything fits on her.
20:46Everything's zipped up.
20:47So we're just having a ball.
20:49Home hand here.
20:52Designers and clients, we are going down to the runway.
20:56Oh, my gosh.
20:57Things aren't fitting right.
20:58The straps are too loose.
20:59The hem is too short.
21:00I mean, there's just so many things I wish I could fix.
21:02All right, everyone.
21:03Follow me, please.
21:04That's right.
21:05Let's go.
21:06I'm really scared right now.
21:07It looks great, Zachary.
21:09The winner of Project Runway Junior will receive a full scholarship to the prestigious FIDM
21:19in California, a complete home sewing and crafting studio provided by Brother, a feature in Seventeen
21:25magazine, and a $25,000 cash prize to help launch their line.
21:38Hello.
21:39Hi.
21:40Welcome back to the runway.
21:42As you know in fashion, one day you're in and the next day you're out.
21:46This was a really fun challenge, and you had clients.
21:50And not just any clients.
21:52You worked with the NYX City Dancers, but you were not creating performance looks.
21:57Each of you worked with one client, and you were to create a look for an upcoming personal event.
22:03How was this challenge for you guys?
22:04Good.
22:05Good.
22:06Crazy.
22:07Crazy?
22:08Bridget, how about you?
22:09I really enjoyed it.
22:10I mean, I had to go a little bohemian, which is not me, but it was fun.
22:14It was a nice change.
22:15Maya, what about you?
22:16It was definitely a challenge, but I think that I sort of picked myself up and did pretty
22:22good, so I'm definitely happy.
22:24Good.
22:25And happy?
22:26I think so, yeah.
22:27Good.
22:28Let's say hello to the judges.
22:29First, we have fashion designer, Christian Siriano.
22:32Hello.
22:33Hi.
22:34Fashion critic and fashion designer, Kelly Osborne.
22:36Hello, designers.
22:37Hi.
22:38And fashion director for Seventeen and Cosmopolitan magazines, Aya Kanai.
22:43Morning.
22:44Hi.
22:45And also, we have Tim Gunn here for the Runway Show.
22:48Love you guys.
22:49Love you too.
22:50Tim won't be judging your looks, but he does have one Tim Gunn save.
22:54That means that if at some point during the competition, he disagrees with us, then he
22:59can bring the eliminated designer back into the competition.
23:02Okay, it's time for the show.
23:04Here we go.
23:11She is beyond happy, and I feel like it shows in the way she's smiling when she walks down
23:17the runway, her attitude when she's walking.
23:20I think at this point, I definitely could win this one.
23:23I think that Carrie looks amazing.
23:24Yes!
23:25Work it!
23:26I think that she just looks vibrant and beautiful.
23:27The outfit fits her really nicely.
23:28It is a bit simple, but I think that it's simple and elegant, and I just really like it.
23:44I'm feeling really good as I see my look come down the runway.
23:51I like the movement in the skirt, how everything fits.
23:54Wow.
23:55And plus, I love seeing how happy Julia is walking in the garment.
23:59She's always dancing in it.
24:00She says she loves it.
24:06Cute, Jackson.
24:09I love it.
24:10I'm feeling amazing.
24:11I love it.
24:12I do feel like this represents both of us, because she likes those bright colors, and
24:17she seems like she loves it, and she's like rocking it.
24:20I love the back.
24:21Oh my God, I love the back.
24:22Yes!
24:23Norby D working!
24:29I love watching my look come down the runway.
24:34I love it.
24:35Norby seems so confident in it, and she's playing around with that kimono, and it makes
24:38me so happy.
24:39I think my original vision has really come to life.
24:49I think that it's a great balance of who she is, and also who I am as a designer.
24:53And I love how there's this play on the flowiness of the pant, and then the structured top,
24:58and I think it's really cool.
25:00Oh, she's so cute!
25:06I'm feeling pretty good to see my look come down the runway.
25:09I really like the movement of it.
25:11I think it was pulled together pretty good.
25:13I'm hoping I'm not going to go home.
25:14I don't know if I am, but I'm hoping I'm not, so we'll see you at the Dungeons thing.
25:28Katie, please step forward.
25:31Congratulations, you are safe.
25:33You can leave the runway.
25:35The rest of you have the highest and lowest scores.
25:41One of you will be the winner, and one of you will be out.
25:48Coming up on Project Runway Junior...
25:50I could tell how great you felt in your outfit.
25:53Heck, I want it.
25:54I don't wear it.
25:55I hate the hem of this pant.
25:56You want to make fashion, so we need you to do that.
26:01The rest of you have the highest and lowest scores.
26:04One of you will be the winner, and one of you will be out.
26:07Zach, tell us about your look and what your client wanted.
26:10Well, first, we have to do something to show you guys.
26:12Ready?
26:13Okay.
26:15Oh, my God.
26:16So my beautiful model and client is Julia.
26:25She wanted a look to go to a Saturday Sunday brunch, and she also likes to wear like tank tops.
26:31I also wanted to do a skirt with volume, but I knew from past critiques that volume here is not flattering.
26:38So I did an 18-piece skirt that would form around her hips.
26:43Also, the look is reversible, so you get four looks in one.
26:48Wow.
26:49Wow.
26:50I loved the fabric choice.
26:51The construction is great.
26:52It looks so well-made, and I love the detail in the back, and the neckline is so flattering.
26:57So I just think, amazing job.
26:59This just looks so perfect and polished, and I love that she feels feminine but powerful because the print is so bold.
27:05I think that's the best part for me, and I think you accentuate all the parts that I think are really beautiful on your client, and that's what you want.
27:11Julia, when you came out, I could tell how great you felt in your outfit.
27:16I love that you've been listening.
27:18You've dropped down the hemline so that it didn't put too much volume, and it's really tasteful and really well done.
27:24This is not the first time that you've shown us something that can be worn multiple ways, and I hope that you keep that as a signature of how you design.
27:33Gorgeous.
27:34Well done.
27:35Maya.
27:36Okay, hi.
27:37Maya's name is Mary, and she wanted to go to a New Year's Eve party, like a dressy one, and she likes to wear pants.
27:45So I made a skinny black pant, and then this white halter top with this bit of, like, silver shimmery on the fabric, and there's a corset style back.
27:57Maya, do you think this is your best work?
28:01Probably not.
28:02Why do you think it's not?
28:03I don't think that it's something I would normally do, but I do like it.
28:08This just doesn't say Maya.
28:11When I look at a look from you, I expect a lot, and this is fine.
28:18You know what I mean?
28:19But we all know that you can do more than this.
28:22I mean, I kind of agree.
28:23You know, I'm a big fan of your work, and I think that this is fine.
28:26I think she looks great.
28:27I think she would totally wear this.
28:29I just wish that if it's New Year's Eve, it's the one night.
28:32It doesn't matter what you're wearing.
28:33You can look like a disco ball.
28:34You can look like a tablecloth.
28:35Who cares?
28:36It's just a little underwhelming.
28:38I think the pants are cool.
28:39They're very basic, but with something very simple like that, I think you have to have a moment on top.
28:45I don't know if I'm just thrown off because it's all twisted in the back, but I just feel like it wasn't enough.
28:50First of all, I love the fabric from the top.
28:52It's so pearlescent, and I love how thick you went with the waistband, but I think this would be the most perfect outfit to wear on a first date.
29:00I just don't see New Year's Eve.
29:02Zachary?
29:03So Alyssa is on her first trip to Paris, and she wants something that she can wear in the evenings and definitely do sightseeing and all that kind of stuff.
29:10I love the way the back crosses.
29:14I also love that you went with an olive green because it's such a neutral color that even in the spring you can wear it all the way into fall.
29:21It's her eye color.
29:22Wow.
29:23See, you really do think of everything.
29:25I'm kind of obsessed with it.
29:28I love how it's so structured on top, but then it almost has this, like, maxi dress feel on the bottom, which is good for day and night.
29:37My only complaint is that if she's wearing heels, it has to hit the floor or be close to it.
29:42Mm-hmm.
29:43I love how the sexiness of the deep V is balanced by the swishy movement of the wide leg trouser.
29:52The tuxedo stripe is a very cool accent and gives some definition to the voluminous pant.
29:58This look is so chic and refined.
30:01I think that all the women on this panel want to wear it.
30:05I wrote a giant just chic on here because it just is.
30:09The balance is what this is all about.
30:11You have open back but just enough skin.
30:14I just think it's really fabulous.
30:15I hate the hem of this pant.
30:17It's driving me crazy.
30:18It's driving me crazy, too.
30:19Yep, but I know you feel it because I'm feeling it with you.
30:22The OCD is so real on this show.
30:24I know.
30:25No, seriously, all we've been looking at is you looking at that hemline.
30:28He's looked at that hemline like a hundred times and it is plucking my nerves.
30:32Okay, so that's the only concern here is that you have such a beautiful look.
30:36I want to have nothing to say about it.
30:38I just don't want something like that to be your downfall.
30:41Bridget?
30:42So this is my girl Norby and she is going to Barcelona and she's very bohemian.
30:47So we wanted to make a little kimono to add to the look.
30:50So wait, what are we getting bohemian about this white cotton top and skirt?
30:55She wants to be bohemian like let's have print on print on print or something that would have been more exciting.
30:59Even if we hated the prints, I kind of feel like these are just like the pieces that are on sale like in the bin.
31:04And I think you aged her a little bit.
31:06So this was unfortunately like a pretty big miss for me today.
31:09I just feel like it's two different looks.
31:11I don't think it goes together.
31:13Although like I appreciate a little bit of color with this outfit.
31:16I think that this white cotton fabric just didn't help your design out.
31:21Because when she was walking down the runway, it's all bunching through here.
31:25And unless she's standing straight, it's not going to be the best outfit to be walking around the city all day and exploring.
31:32Bridget, you have been a challenge winner.
31:35We have seen you perform at a very high level, but this is clothes.
31:42It's not fashion.
31:44Okay.
31:45You came here to make fashion, right?
31:47Correct.
31:48This is Project Runway, not Project Bargain Basement.
31:51You want to make fashion.
31:52That's why you're here.
31:53So we need you to do that.
31:55Jackson, tell us about your look and what your client wanted.
31:58This is the wonderful Jess.
32:00She was going to family vacation down in Aruba.
32:03And so she wanted a dress to wear to a dinner that's in between casual and black tie.
32:09Your work.
32:10Well, you love a slit.
32:11We know that.
32:12But your work always has a costume like flair.
32:17And this one almost has like a circus tent like moment going on.
32:22I want to have more positive things to say about it.
32:25I just think each element was like a little bit too much.
32:30I have a love-hate relationship with this.
32:32Okay.
32:33I think that the top is really well made and I think it's extremely flattering.
32:38I'm a big fan of this neckline.
32:40Although I'm having issues from the waist down.
32:43The fabric lays too stiff, especially since she's in the Caribbean.
32:47It's a little cartoony.
32:49I just don't like it.
32:52I mean, I agree with you on the love-hate.
32:55Because I love what you've done with the top.
32:57I love that it cinches in her waist.
32:59But the fabric is really, really loud.
33:01Because you did not put any darts in there or enough,
33:05it actually billows out in a way that isn't actually quite flattering.
33:08It's like tent-like.
33:10The front feels tortured to me.
33:12I think the shape feels very heavy on bottom.
33:15And I feel like she looks very old.
33:17And maybe it reminds me of a mother of the bride dress
33:19that like wants to be sexy but still covered.
33:21And that's what I'm getting the disconnect there.
33:23Okay.
33:25Samantha.
33:26So this is the beautiful teal.
33:28And she's in training to be a fashion buyer.
33:30She's required to dress professional, but her personally,
33:33she wants to take risks and still look edgy.
33:36I just wrote on my card, Samantha is back.
33:39Aww.
33:40We've been missing you.
33:41Your list of needs was a little bit more nuanced.
33:45And the fact that you clearly hit every single one of them
33:49and made it a Samantha look, I find to be really impressive.
33:54So I'm thrilled that Samantha is back.
33:56I wrote that she has a cool job.
33:58And I kind of feel like if I'm in line at Starbucks and I saw her,
34:02I'd be like, oh my God, she's fabulous.
34:03I like want to know who she is.
34:04What does she do for a living?
34:05I like your planned proportions too.
34:07These oversized kind of quite sculptural pieces are not always so flattering,
34:11but for some reason you make them flattering.
34:13And that's what I really like about it.
34:15Really fantastic job.
34:16I love that you used army green and orange.
34:19That's one of my favorite color combinations.
34:22I think it's sporty, but she still is sophisticated and cool.
34:27Heck, I want it.
34:28I don't wear it.
34:31You're back, girlfriend.
34:33Samantha, as a designer, I am completely obsessed with you.
34:35If somebody called me on the phone and said, yeah, I just pulled you a green mesh kind
34:39of puffy jacket, a bright orange top, and a denim pencil skirt, I would be like,
34:44uh, are you crazy?
34:46But you make it work.
34:48Can you turn around if that's okay?
34:50The skirt for me is where you kind of fell a little bit flat.
34:53But to me, like, really, really out of this world.
34:56Thank you, Samantha.
34:57Thank you, too.
34:58Okay.
34:59We've enjoyed talking with you.
35:00You can leave the runway.
35:02Hey.
35:03Hello.
35:04How did it go, you guys?
35:07Good.
35:08I'm in the bottom.
35:09You're in the bottom?
35:10And then I'm in the bottom.
35:11I'm in the bottom, too.
35:12You are?
35:16Hello.
35:17Hello.
35:18So, would you like to begin with Julia wearing Zach?
35:21I want to see all the scenes.
35:22Me, too.
35:23Let's see.
35:24But you can, the way that he lined up the print is so good.
35:27Yeah, look.
35:28Pretty good.
35:29It's just so fun and flirty.
35:30I really like this.
35:31This is so cute.
35:32Definitely his best work.
35:33Yeah.
35:34For sure.
35:35Adorable.
35:38So fabulous.
35:39This is amazing.
35:40The cargo pockets on the cropped jacket are so cool.
35:45There's just so much design here.
35:47There's innovation.
35:48There's construction.
35:49I'm sorry.
35:50There is one major scary problem here.
35:52What?
35:53Can I turn you around, please?
35:55That.
35:56That?
35:57No, of course.
35:58But like she said, she spent all of her time on the top and the jacket.
36:02And so the skirt kind of fell by the wayside.
36:04Yeah.
36:05Did she add in the front panel as an afterthought?
36:07She added the panel, right?
36:08Yeah.
36:09I like the way that when she makes a mistake, she can very easily figure out a way to fix it.
36:14This is fabulous.
36:17It's just the coolest thing.
36:19I think it's amazing.
36:20Alyssa, do the pockets work?
36:22They do.
36:24Oh, so cool.
36:25I mean, and this fabric is quite tricky to sew.
36:28So to put these kind of tuxedo stripes in it and that they lay flat.
36:32I love the contrast with these big thick straps.
36:35Me too.
36:36And these like thin delicate ones.
36:37He has such a bright future.
36:39Yeah.
36:40He's really talented.
36:42Aw, little Maya.
36:43I feel like she lost a little steam.
36:45But I think the pant actually fits really great.
36:47Do you know what I'm just looking at?
36:49Oh, but it has stretch in it, right?
36:50No, it doesn't.
36:51Oh.
36:52It doesn't?
36:53That's surprising.
36:54I mean, it is an honor.
36:55It's like barely any gig.
36:56Wow.
36:57And that's why it's pretty good.
36:58That's a very well made pant.
36:59Yeah.
37:00This looks like a shoelace.
37:02Why is it left all twisted?
37:04Does it twist on its own?
37:05I think it's just a little sloppy.
37:07I also needed a sequin somewhere.
37:09She played it safe.
37:12She looks good.
37:13If you're going to give me a kimono, give me fringe, tassels, something.
37:17The thing is, it looks like a muslin.
37:19It's a, you know, it looks like this was the base.
37:21She made a muslin in white and it's supposed to be a fabulous fabric later on.
37:25It doesn't feel like her at all.
37:26Well, she kept calling it bohemian.
37:27She's clearly not bohemian, so she just doesn't really know.
37:31And this looks like a shower curtain.
37:33This just does not even come close to reaching the bar that has been set.
37:40Put a seam there because it doesn't work.
37:42It's so stiff.
37:43I don't mind the fabric.
37:44It's a table pool.
37:45Yeah.
37:46But this to me is so good.
37:47It's kind of good.
37:48Yes.
37:49He just needs to learn to edit.
37:50And we've known this from him from the beginning.
37:52Yeah.
37:53There's an idea there.
37:54And there's an imagination there.
37:55But the front doesn't fit at all.
37:56So I think it's almost like he's sewing the pieces the wrong sequence.
38:00And I think that's his issues here.
38:02He's starting with the skirt and it's inside out.
38:04And then he's twisting it.
38:05And then he's like, oh, but I need to put the zipper in.
38:07But I can't.
38:08Do we all agree?
38:10Let's bring him back.
38:13Designers, the six of you have the highest and the lowest scores.
38:18One of you will be the winner.
38:19And unfortunately one of you will be out.
38:31Designers, the six of you have the highest and the lowest scores.
38:35One of you will be the winner.
38:37And unfortunately one of you will be out.
38:42Zach, you are the winner of this challenge.
38:46Yay!
38:49How do you feel?
38:51I feel wonderful.
38:54Your look was your best yet.
38:56It was a perfect brunch outfit.
38:57It was flattering and ladylike.
38:59And it was obvious how amazing your client felt walking down the runway.
39:02Great job.
39:03You're in.
39:05You can leave the runway.
39:06See you.
39:12Boom!
39:13You won?
39:14Yeah.
39:15Oh my God.
39:16Samantha, Zachary, you're both in.
39:19You can leave the runway.
39:24Maya, the F word for you today was fine.
39:30You're in.
39:31You can leave the runway.
39:32Thank you guys so much.
39:33Jackson, Bridget, unfortunately one of you will be out.
39:45Bridget, you've been a strong competitor here, but it seemed like today you made clothes not fashion.
39:51Your look was a little bit basic and quite honestly boring.
39:56We know you can do better.
39:58Jackson, your look was a bit of a circus.
40:01It was just too much and you need to learn to edit.
40:04We love your imagination, but you need to find the balance between costume and fashion.
40:08Bridget?
40:09Bridget?
40:10I am so sorry.
40:11You're out.
40:13Jackson, that means you're in.
40:15You can leave the runway.
40:16Bridget, you are an amazing designer, and you have such a great future ahead of you.
40:21Let me give you a hug.
40:22You should be very proud of yourself, okay?
40:23Bridget?
40:24Thank you so much.
