00:00Previously on Project Runway Junior.
00:03For your next challenge, you will be working with the Knicks City Dancers.
00:07I like it. We're a good match.
00:10So, you like the whole bohemian look. It's definitely one of my least favorite styles.
00:15It's a little janky. It's worrisome.
00:18It's really ho-hum.
00:20It's not very good.
00:24I just don't like it.
00:26This is Project Runway, not Project Bargain Basement.
00:29Zach, you are the winner of this challenge.
00:33Bridget, I'm so sorry you're out.
00:53Hi, designers.
00:55Hello.
00:56There are only six of you left.
00:58Oh, my God. I cannot believe that I'm one of the final six.
01:02It's just getting down to the wire and anybody has competition.
01:06There are only two challenges until we decide who will be competing in the Project Runway Junior finale.
01:12I felt really sad that I was in the bottom last week, but I'm so thankful and grateful that I'm still here.
01:18For this next challenge, you will be pounding the pavement on the iconic Fashion Avenue.
01:24Tim and a familiar face are waiting for you at Mood, so good luck and I will see you back here on the runway.
01:32Bye, everybody.
01:34Good morning, designers.
01:44Good morning.
01:45Hannah said that you would have a special guest here at Mood, and you do.
01:48Hi, everyone.
01:49Hi.
01:50Oh, my gosh.
01:51Seeing Aya Kanai at Mood, it definitely makes me very nervous.
01:56What is this thing we're going to do?
01:58We all know Aya, the fashion director of Seventeen and Cosmopolitan magazines.
02:02So, designers, this is the Seventeen magazine challenge.
02:05Ah!
02:06Seventeen challenge.
02:07Whoop.
02:08I'm just like, let's go.
02:10Who here has heard of the hashtag OOTD?
02:14Oh.
02:15Oh, oh, oh.
02:16All of you?
02:17So, let's educate Tim.
02:19What does it mean?
02:20Outfit of the day.
02:21So, it's whatever you're wearing and it's like all over social media and everybody knows what it is.
02:26Well, Tim, my OOTD is inspired by you.
02:30I'm flattered.
02:31So, every day, fashionistas around the world show off their outfits with this hashtag.
02:37Today, you're going to be hitting the streets to look for your own OOTDs to use as inspiration for this challenge.
02:45Oh, my God, I'm so excited.
02:47I'm really nervous now that we have to use real people as our inspiration.
02:52One of the really important things that I want to see out of all of you from this challenge is an editorial look.
02:58Fashion-forward outfits that you think could appear in the pages of Seventeen magazine.
03:05Coming off of a win, it's very important to impress Aya because I want to stay in the competition and as we get down to the wire, everything has to be perfect.
03:15So, you're going to have 30 minutes out on the street to find your OOTDs and then you're coming back and you will be shopping here at Mood.
03:23All right, guys, head off.
03:28Run!
03:33Excuse me?
03:35Okay.
03:37Excuse me?
03:38Excuse me?
03:39Okay.
03:40Honestly, it is so tough getting people to stop and talk to you.
03:44Excuse me?
03:46It's a little bit scary.
03:48I get to walk around the city where I'm from, talk to my people and be inspired.
03:55Can I take a picture of your outfit?
03:57It looks really cool.
03:58If you're in the city, specifically Seventh Avenue, people are on their way to work.
04:03They don't really want to talk to you.
04:04Excuse me?
04:05Can I take a picture of your pants?
04:06Just like, yeah, your pants.
04:07I get inspired by this construction worker.
04:11The details on the side of his pants are actually these really cool pockets.
04:16So, I'm definitely excited.
04:20It is really weird to have to approach people like,
04:23Oh my gosh, I like what you're wearing.
04:25Can I ask you like a few questions?
04:27Hello?
04:28New Yorkers are like, I'm on my phone.
04:30Hello?
04:31Yes.
04:32Print those sheets, Barry.
04:33Yes.
04:34Give me the news report.
04:35Don't talk to me.
04:36Is it okay if I take a picture of your outfit?
04:40Of course you can.
04:42And could you tell me why you're wearing this outfit?
04:45Because it's comfortable.
04:46Comfy.
04:47And I'm able to move in it throughout the day, so it's really great.
04:50And are you just browsing around or are you...
04:52I'm heading to work.
04:53Heading to work.
04:54This camera only works selfie style.
04:56Can I ask you why you're wearing the outfit that you are today?
04:59I'm on my way to work now.
05:01When we think of work, we usually think of the office job in the suit.
05:06And I want to make this work outfit that isn't necessarily for the office.
05:11When you're choosing an outfit, what do you look for?
05:15Um, I like for bright prints, colors.
05:17Okay.
05:18And to use always a button down shirt.
05:20I'm inspired by this lady's orange shorts and button down shirt.
05:26Since I have a lot of formal pieces, I'm gonna challenge myself and go the casual route.
05:31Hello.
05:32I love your style.
05:33Fine, girl.
05:34I have no one.
05:35Excuse me?
05:36Yeah.
05:37Hi.
05:38Bree is Katie Slater and I'm from Project Runway Junior.
05:39Do you mind if I ask you a couple of questions?
05:40Cool.
05:41So, I was just wondering what was your inspiration for your outfit this morning?
05:42I don't know.
05:43I feel maybe it was because I went to a white party on Saturday night.
05:44I still went to white.
05:45Finally, I find a woman in...
05:46All right.
05:47All right.
05:48All right.
05:49All right.
05:50All right.
05:51All right.
05:52All right.
05:53All right.
05:54All right.
05:55All right.
05:56All right.
05:57All right.
05:58All right.
05:59All right.
06:00Finally, I find a woman in all white, but the thing that really stands out to me are her
06:04light denim pants.
06:05I've never really shown the judges pants.
06:08And so I thought I really want to take a risk with this one.
06:11Can I take a photo of your outfit?
06:12Sure.
06:13I definitely want to approach people that look chic.
06:16Hi.
06:17I'm filming Project Runway.
06:18Can I take your picture?
06:19Okay.
06:20I see this woman in like this wine colored dress and it has this menswear influence to
06:25it.
06:27So I definitely want to include that kind of style.
06:30Okay.
06:31I need to approach people.
06:33Hello.
06:34I'm Jackson.
06:35Hi.
06:36I'm Natalie.
06:37Nice to meet you.
06:38I love what you're wearing today.
06:40I know that I want to make a jacket that might have pressed sleeves.
06:45This is gorgeous.
06:46But then other than that, I have no idea what I'm going to make at this point.
06:50How did it go?
06:54Good.
06:55That doesn't sound good.
06:58All right.
06:59You have $200.
07:0030 minutes to shop.
07:01Have at it.
07:02Ah!
07:03Can I get this?
07:06I'm looking for a bright colored neoprene for a cute little dress.
07:12And I want to make this like faux fur kind of jacket.
07:15So you know the prints that they use to make ties?
07:18I just have this idea of using tie fabric.
07:21Where are those?
07:22Designers, you have five more minutes.
07:25I'm definitely looking for a canvas.
07:28All right.
07:29I think I'm good.
07:30I have three colors that I'm falling in love with.
07:33Jackson, how do you feel about these two colors together?
07:36I know.
07:37Get some other options.
07:38This is Dicey.
07:39I decide to get this white stretch denim.
07:43Ooh, Jackson.
07:44Fur.
07:45It looks terrible, but I'm like, yes, Jackson.
07:48You use all of that fabric.
07:49Use it all.
07:50Get off.
07:57My bag of fur.
07:58Whoa.
07:59Hi.
08:00Aya Kanai is so pleased with your positive response
08:04that the winning look from this challenge is going to be
08:08featured in Seventeen Magazine.
08:14I want to be in Seventeen Magazine so bad.
08:16Better start winning.
08:17Yes.
08:18Oh, my gosh.
08:20Now the pressure is on.
08:22You have one day for this challenge.
08:23I will be back later to check in with you,
08:26and you will have a model fitting later.
08:28Hi.
08:31Aya wants us to think more fashion-forward.
08:35So right now I'm making a button-down inspired shirt
08:39and then a printed short.
08:43I did not sketch at all.
08:44I have, like, no idea what I'm doing.
08:46I have this idea of doing a color-blocking short
08:50inspired by this construction workers.
08:52The burgundy pink looks really cool in mood,
08:55but I'm second-guessing it.
08:57So I'm going to completely ditch this pink.
09:03What are you making out of that?
09:04A dress.
09:05I'm starting with a dress because you can take off a jacket
09:08versus taking off a dress if I run out of time.
09:11My leather nightmare.
09:12Definitely going to do separates.
09:14Something with leather and maybe this neoprene for the skirt.
09:17And a whole lot of grommets.
09:22I'm feeling very nervous because those pants have to fit perfectly.
09:27I've got to be careful with this seam.
09:29Okay, Maya.
09:30Should I keep my jacket short or make it long?
09:33I like the length that it's at now.
09:36I love my look, but I don't think it's very Seventeen magazine.
09:41I don't want this to look like a business jacket.
09:46I'm really worried about myself.
09:48I still have a lot to get done before Tim comes over for the critique.
09:52I'm kind of worried for Zach.
09:55I think it's because of the fabrics that he chose
09:57because I don't see anything really youthful about it.
10:02Fur.
10:04Fur for days.
10:05This faux fur jacket is totally not working.
10:08I feel like the fur against the dress kind of cheapens the whole outfit.
10:13I'm a little stressed, a little frazzled,
10:15because I don't know what I'm going to do for the top.
10:17I feel like I could be in trouble.
10:23Coming up on Project Runway Jr.
10:25It's Seventeen magazine.
10:26I could picture a 60-year-old woman in this.
10:28Is this editorial enough?
10:30Uh, yeah.
10:31Hallelujah.
10:33I love this look.
10:34You feminized cargo pants.
10:36I just don't think it's the right fabric.
10:39I think you missed the bar a little bit.
10:41Do you feel like this is your strongest look that you've done?
10:43Fur.
10:44Fur for days.
10:45This faux fur jacket is totally not working.
10:46I'm like, mmm, that doesn't look good.
10:47The farther I got, the more I didn't like it.
10:48You're not doing fur anymore?
10:49No, I'm doing it a white kind of denim.
10:52So I'm really glad that Tim told me to go get another fabric,
10:55because now I have this, like, white fabric to use.
10:58If I didn't have it, I'd be SOS.
11:04How are your pants going, Samantha?
11:05Good.
11:06I've just made them, like, extra big so that I know for sure I won't have a fitting problem.
11:11If I didn't have it, I'd be S.O.S.
11:20How are your pants going, Samantha?
11:22Good, I've just made them like extra big
11:24so that I know for sure I won't have a fitting problem.
11:27Our challenge is to create a look
11:29inspired by real people out on the streets of New York.
11:33It has to be fashion forward and editorial
11:35and Seventeen Magazine worthy.
11:38Okay, how do you figure out if it's long enough?
11:41Lay on top of it.
11:44It should be long enough, I think.
11:48How is everyone?
11:49Great.
11:50Okay, I can't wait to see what you're doing.
11:53How's Zach?
11:54Hi, Tim.
11:55Right now, the only thing I have ready is the shirt.
11:57I'm hoping that Tim can push me in the right direction.
12:00What happened out on the street?
12:02I really like this lady's shorts.
12:04I'm kind of wanting to do a black and white short,
12:08but I'm kind of like up in the air about everything.
12:11You can't be up in the air.
12:12Yeah.
12:13The workday clock is ticking.
12:14All right, is this editorial enough?
12:16I feel like once everything's done, it will.
12:19This juncture, it worries me.
12:21Right now, I would figure these shorts out in Muslim.
12:24I'm a little nervous for Zach.
12:25All I really have seen so far is a shirt.
12:28He's really gonna have to make an awesome pair of shorts
12:31to make it stand out.
12:32Samantha, how are you?
12:33So basically, I got inspired by this construction worker
12:37that was on break.
12:39The pocket details that are like on the side.
12:41It's a very utilitarian pants.
12:43It has a function.
12:44So what I have right now is basically like a fitted waist.
12:47And then on the sides, I have like these pocket details,
12:51and then another pocket here.
12:52It looks like it's not supposed to be there.
12:55I think it's gonna look like a forward fanny pack.
12:57Yeah.
12:58Okay, definitely not using it now.
13:00You're on a great trajectory.
13:02I just can't wait to see this.
13:03Thank you so much.
13:05Good heavens, what a beautiful collage.
13:06Oh, thank you.
13:07I mean, I love this print that she has here.
13:10And so I immediately thought like the whole menswear tie kind of inspiration.
13:15It's a little more mature.
13:18That's the word.
13:19It's Seventeen Magazine.
13:19I could picture a 60-year-old woman in this.
13:22Okay.
13:23What if this was short-sleeved?
13:24I was playing with that idea too.
13:26Mature is not gonna be a winning look.
13:28I don't really know where I want to go with it yet, but I know that I have to do something
13:33that's a little more edgy.
13:34Hi, Pety.
13:35Talk to me about your experience on the street.
13:39I did find one really nice lady and I was really inspired by my pants because she's wearing
13:46like white denim pants.
13:47I'm glad to know that your intention was to do a riff on denim.
13:52Mm-hmm.
13:53Compared to the richness of your top, it looks so inexpensive.
13:59Okay.
14:00I mean, for me, there's an immediate association with a hospital gown and with sheets.
14:06Oh, my gosh.
14:07As soon as Tim says it looks like a hospital gown, I start sitting in the pants in a whole
14:13different way.
14:14It's not the shape that I mind.
14:16It's the textile.
14:17All right.
14:18What else do you have?
14:19That's it.
14:20I have no idea what I'm going to do because no one really has good fabrics that'll match
14:26the top and the vest, so I'm afraid that I might have to keep the pants.
14:30Thank you, Pety.
14:31All right.
14:32Thank you, Tim.
14:33So, Jackson.
14:34Hello.
14:35When I asked you at Mood how things out on the street went, you were a little unhappy.
14:40What happened?
14:41Well, there wasn't a lot of people I liked and then the people that I did like didn't
14:45want to talk to me.
14:47But I did find this wonderful lady.
14:49I loved her little sleeve detail right there.
14:51Mm-hmm.
14:52And so I want to do a jacket where, like here, it's going to connect so it's like very open.
14:58So, is that the textile for the jacket?
15:01Uh, yeah.
15:02So, the fur has left your vocabulary.
15:04Yeah, the fur has left the vocabulary.
15:06Hallelujah.
15:07Jackson, what concerns me is that it's so basic.
15:11Outside.
15:12Oh, thank you, Tim.
15:14Inside, I don't know what I'm going to do.
15:17All right, Jackson.
15:21So, I see Jackson really struggling with the time constraints and he keeps having to like
15:26redo things.
15:27I just really hope that he's able to finish it.
15:29So, Maya, tell me about your experience on the street.
15:32I did find these two ladies and they both said that they were going to work.
15:37So, I was kind of thinking someone who's going to more of an unconventional job.
15:42Well, that's what I see here and I'm intrigued.
15:45So, what are you going to put on the top?
15:46I know that I'm not going to do sleeves.
15:48The design of the skirt is certainly innovative and it's fun and it's youthful.
15:53But it still has a degree of seriousness about it and frankly a degree of sophistication.
15:59I am so, so, so happy.
16:02I kind of went out on a limb using metal and neoprene and leather.
16:07So, I'm so happy that he likes it.
16:10All right, designers.
16:12I have made a decision.
16:14Mini Mood is now open for 15 minutes.
16:18All right.
16:19Have at it.
16:23Okay.
16:24I need this.
16:25Do I want?
16:26I'm just going to seriously grab everything that I see.
16:29Oh, I love you Mini Mood.
16:33Bad decision, Jackson.
16:34Don't do that.
16:35I have no colors in mine.
16:37It's basically grab any rolls that kind of look like they would go with the skirt.
16:41More neoprene.
16:43More neoprene!
16:45I'm really worried for Jackson.
16:47I feel like he kind of gets excited very easily.
16:50Look at the navy against that.
16:51Doesn't that look good?
16:52I feel like this fabric is going to get him in trouble.
16:55All right, designers.
16:57Mini Mood is now closed.
16:58Okay.
16:59Is that helpful?
17:00Yeah.
17:01Good.
17:02Your models will be coming in soon.
17:03You have three hours until the end of the work day.
17:06I will see you in the morning.
17:07Thank you, Tim.
17:09Okay, focus, Jackson.
17:10Focus.
17:11Focus.
17:12So, my plan of attack is to make a crop top out of the blue neoprene.
17:18I'm a genius.
17:19Don't even worry about muslin at this point.
17:22I'm like, I'm running out of time.
17:24It's blue.
17:25Oh, my God.
17:26When you get your model back.
17:27This is our Seventeen Magazine Challenge.
17:28We had to go out on the streets and, like, get people, but I only found, like, one person.
17:45So, let's just focus on these.
17:48So, let's go try them on.
17:51Is it too tight?
17:53We're having a whole lot of difficulties.
17:58The top is a bit too small.
18:00And then, like, the color isn't popping the way that I thought it would.
18:05So, like, should I start all over and make a new shirt?
18:08Maybe there won't be enough time left in the day.
18:11I'm very nervous and scared.
18:13I don't know what I want to do.
18:15Zach should be worried.
18:17Like, you gotta wake up.
18:18This is real.
18:23Coming up on Project Runway Junior.
18:25Deciding to start over is crazy.
18:27I seriously can't decide whatever.
18:28Swilling a little off.
18:30Just crossing my fingers.
18:32How much time do you have?
18:33Like, three hours.
18:34Oh.
18:35Do you have the time to redo it on this?
18:36Yeah.
18:37I'll do it.
18:38So, I decided to scrap the blue top and just start all over again.
18:51Someone's gonna be like, what is this?
18:53Not the thing I showed you?
18:55I know that he had a little problem with his shirt, but deciding to start over is crazy.
19:01All right, yeah, just hold it like that.
19:03Trying on the shorts and it's looking really good.
19:07I still have to add the turtleneck part, though I just have to focus on how I'm going to use my time wisely.
19:14Let me look at this skirt real quick.
19:16Can you turn around?
19:17Um, it's pretty good.
19:20That is so cute, Maya.
19:22Looking around, I'm a little worried about my look.
19:25It's feeling a little off.
19:27I toned down kind of the more mature elements, but it's still not 17's aesthetic.
19:33Keep it simple, Zachary.
19:34You can do it.
19:36Yeah, that's way better.
19:39I still have a whole new pair of pants I have to make.
19:42Yeah, I think that's better.
19:44You know, I really want to win this challenge.
19:46So, I'm just crossing my fingers that I'll finish this by the end of the day.
19:50Let's see here.
19:52So, I don't know how well I like the blue top since that blue on the yellow is kind of like a little costumey.
20:02Like modern day Snow White, let's not do the blue.
20:05Yeah, I like that color combo a lot better.
20:08So, if I did like a long sleeve, that's my best bet.
20:12Okay.
20:13Time to work.
20:14I definitely think Jackson has a lot going on in his garments.
20:19Sometimes he may go a little overboard.
20:22Bye.
20:23See you tomorrow.
20:24Bye Victoria.
20:26See ya.
20:27Bye bye.
20:28Bye.
20:31Surprisingly, it actually feels wonderful to start over.
20:34So, what is your top color now?
20:36These two.
20:37Oh, that's pretty.
20:38It just makes it brighter.
20:40There's too much volume in a sleeve.
20:44Petey, how are your pants coming?
20:45Um, I'm stressed.
20:47I'm stressed.
20:48You can do it.
20:49There's a lot to do.
20:52Alright guys, it's time to go home.
20:58Thank you, kind madame.
21:00Just go.
21:10Let's get back to work.
21:12So much work today.
21:13Let's do this.
21:14Who's ready for runway today?
21:16Who's scared about runway today?
21:19I'm feeling a little bit nervous.
21:20I have the top pretty much done, but I'm still trying to finish the shorts.
21:25Measurements are still good.
21:28Hi Tim.
21:30Good morning everyone.
21:31Good morning.
21:32Alright, you have 30 minutes to work before your models come in.
21:36Then you will have 30 minutes to prep them for the runway.
21:39Alright.
21:40Alright.
21:41I will be back.
21:43Bye.
21:45Okay.
21:46Shorter or longer?
21:47Whatever you feel looks more youthful.
21:48I don't...
21:50I realized that the fabric that I'm using looks good unfinished.
21:55I'm just gonna go for it and pray the heck out of the neckline.
21:59I'm not over here.
22:00Yay!
22:01You look amazing.
22:03I'm feeling good that I have something done.
22:06Is it too tight?
22:07I'm so sorry.
22:08It's okay.
22:09But the shorts like so tight, it's like sausage-ing her leg.
22:12Hopefully the judges will like look over that.
22:15We can hook and eye it from there.
22:16Right, you try.
22:17Okay.
22:18Does it feel comfortable?
22:19Mm-hmm.
22:20Yeah, I always put you in like the comfiest clothes.
22:21I think Samantha's gonna be in the top because her look is just perfectly her.
22:26She has such a strong aesthetic and she sticks to it.
22:30So here and then there.
22:33Now that I have the whole kind of dress, quote-unquote dress, it's similar to my original vision but less cost.
22:40So much better.
22:42Okay.
22:43Designers, in ten minutes you and your models and I are going down to the runway, alright?
22:50Alright!
22:52Perfect.
22:53Thank goodness.
22:54I like Fady's look from the waist up, but the pants just look cheap.
23:03Can I see your wrist?
23:04This is actually an earring.
23:06Perfect.
23:07Ah!
23:08Do-do-do.
23:09Oh, it's so cute.
23:10Hi, Tim.
23:11Designers and models, we are going down to the runway.
23:24Alrighty.
23:25Everyone follow me, please.
23:26It's crazy to think that we're so close to the finale.
23:29I've worked so hard, these last challenges to not make it all the way would be horrible.
23:37Off we go.
23:44The winner of Project Runway Junior will receive a full scholarship to the prestigious FIDM in California,
23:50a complete home sewing and crafting studio provided by Brother, a feature in Seventeen Magazine,
23:56and a $25,000 cash prize to help launch their line.
24:07Hello, everybody.
24:08Hello.
24:09Welcome to the runway.
24:14Okay, this was the Seventeen Magazine challenge, and it was a fun one, right?
24:18Yes.
24:19We sent you out on the streets to talk to people about their OOTD, or their outfit of the day.
24:25You were to use those people as the inspiration for an editorial look.
24:30And the most exciting part is that the winner of this challenge will have their looks showcased in Seventeen Magazine.
24:36How cool is that?
24:37Amazing.
24:38Okay, let's say hello to the judges.
24:42First, we have fashion designer, Christian Siriano.
24:45Hello.
24:46Hi.
24:47Fashion critic and fashion designer, Kelly Osborne.
24:49Hello, designers.
24:50Hi.
24:51And fashion director for Seventeen and Cosmopolitan magazines, Aya Kanai.
24:56Hello, everyone.
24:57Also, we have Tim Gunn here for the runway show.
25:00I really love you guys.
25:01Love you too.
25:02Love you too, heart.
25:03As you know, Tim won't be judging your looks.
25:06Okay, it's time for the show.
25:08Are you guys ready?
25:09Yes.
25:10All right, let's do this.
25:19This is definitely the hashtag OOTD that I was hoping for.
25:22I think it looks so good, and I'm so happy to be sending it down the runway.
25:27I love the way that it's flowing, and the way that it's just moving, and I could definitely
25:31see it in a magazine.
25:39I love my look.
25:41I think that it's definitely a combination of Seventeen magazine and then my own aesthetic.
25:48I know that it's a little mature, but that's who I am as a designer.
25:52And I think it's translating well into my look.
25:55Yes.
26:03I love my look coming down the runway.
26:05It's very kind of flirty and sophisticated, but like edgy, but it's also very fun.
26:10The jacket is maybe not going well with the dress, but I know if I don't have the jacket,
26:17it's going to be way too simple.
26:19Seeing my look walk down the runway, I'm feeling pretty good about it.
26:31I mean, I'm really proud about the waist up, the waist down.
26:34I just wish that I could have done the pants in a different fabric, but overall, I'm happy with how it turned out.
26:41I'm feeling okay when I see my look come down the runway, like nothing's splitting, nothing's falling out.
26:53It looks good.
26:54It looks good.
26:55I did want to go on a more casual direction, and so I like my look, but like I don't love it.
27:04Seeing my look come down the runway, it's definitely something that I can stand by.
27:13This look definitely represents me as a designer from the top to the pockets, definitely those shorts.
27:22100% something that I would make in the future, and I'm just really proud of it.
27:37Designers, the six of you have the highest and the lowest scores.
27:41There will be a winner, and unfortunately, one of you will be out.
27:53Coming up on Project Runway Junior.
27:56Incredibly, incredibly high fashion.
27:58She's a little dressed in the dark.
28:00It's like a shower curtain to me.
28:01You go overwhelmed here.
28:02I'm having a hard time looking at it.
28:09One of you will be the winner of this challenge, and have your look in the pages of Seventeen Magazine.
28:14But unfortunately, one of you will be out.
28:18Let's bring out your models.
28:22Zachary, tell us about your inspiration and your look.
28:26So on the streets of New York, everybody's dressed in very menswear-inspired fabrics.
28:31And so I did this cropped blazer out of the men's suit tie fabric, and I paired that with the pinstripe skirt.
28:39I love the pinstripes going all different directions.
28:42I like the sheen of the tie fabric.
28:45I think you really took the challenge.
28:47You put your Zachary spin on it, and it's cool.
28:50You looked at the modern-day businessman and turned that into a chic, beautiful woman.
28:56And I know you haven't been to a casino, but, you know, the people that work the blackjack tables, it very much reminds me of those jackets that I really don't like.
29:08Hannah and I are kind of torn with this look.
29:10But you have, you know, the fashion director for Seventeen Magazine saying she loves it.
29:14But I don't picture a young girl like Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, these girls that are in the magazine ever wearing this kind of look.
29:23Jackson?
29:24So when I hit the streets of New York, I didn't find a lot of people because, yeah.
29:30Why?
29:31You went outside of New York City and you found no people.
29:34No.
29:35I found two, but I used one of them.
29:37She had sleeves kind of like this.
29:38So I knew I wanted to do something along those lines.
29:41I wanted it to be very kind of bright and young.
29:44I'm seeing two very different girls in this look.
29:48That fun, flirty, bright color.
29:51And then I see this jacket, which I actually like the shape of.
29:55I just don't think it's the right fabric for it.
29:58I just think that she's a little dressed in the dark.
30:00Like, she thought this dress was yellow and thought that was a black jacket.
30:04I think the jacket's cool, but I don't think it makes sense with this little cute dress.
30:08For some reason, I love the two colors together.
30:11It's just the way that they're shown together.
30:13Could you take off the jacket?
30:15Because I'm having a hard time looking at it.
30:17And I think that this look is a little bit too basic.
30:21It's not addressing what's new and what's next in fashion.
30:25And that's kind of where we were going with this challenge.
30:28This, I think, misses that mark.
30:31All right, Patey.
30:33So, walking around New York, I found, like, one lady.
30:36Her OTD was, like, a super killer fitted denim pant.
30:39And so, with all the inspiration, I created a denim pleated pant with a double lapel brocade vest and a leather top with a razor back and an exposed zipper.
30:51These lines and the structure of this top and even the pants, I feel like I'm seeing a different designer.
30:58Do you think that being here in New York has helped you evolve your aesthetic?
31:03I think it definitely has because I don't want to be known as a flowy, hippie person.
31:07Yeah.
31:08That's what being in New York kind of helped me change.
31:11I don't think of you as a hippie girl. I just think of it as bohemian.
31:14This feels like you, but it feels elevated.
31:17I'm a huge fan of the wide-legged pant.
31:19I think the only place you had a little bit of trouble is the front pleating.
31:22If you did a double pleat there, it would have laid flatter.
31:24Yeah.
31:25The vest and the tank are clearly the strongest part about this look.
31:29The pant is not speaking to the kind of girl that we'd be showing in Seventeenth.
31:35Samantha.
31:36My inspiration was actually a construction worker.
31:39I was basically inspired by all the details that were on his pants because construction workers have to carry all these tools.
31:46I also wanted to get inspired by the whole concept of fall colors, but still adding a little fun with the color blocking in the shoe.
31:53I love how with the use of these colors, you're able to make something that's very sort of boyish, expensive and sophisticated.
32:02I just think what's so great, your girl, she's just cool. I love your inspiration.
32:07I think it's genius because construction workers are all over New York City and they're like good for eye candy, but you never really want to see what else they're wearing.
32:14I mean like, you never really think about what they're wearing.
32:17My only thing is I have seen this kind of wide leg gaucho a few times and I'm really curious what a really cool modern dress would be like from you.
32:26You feminized cargo pants and turned them into a modern day color.
32:31But it's the way that you put everything together with your styling and adding that pop of blue in the shoe.
32:36Incredibly, incredibly high fashion.
32:40Samantha, I love this look.
32:41Your inspiration drawing from utilitarian and menswear is very clear and that's the kind of thing that we would build a story around.
32:50Zach.
32:51My inspiration came from like a young girl on the go.
32:55I kind of personally wanted to challenge myself to do something a little bit more casual.
33:00The proportions are a bit strange.
33:01The leg is like a little long, but then they're quite tight.
33:04I would have shortened them and made them more structured and add some pockets.
33:08I think you missed the bar a little bit.
33:10You got overwhelmed here and overextended yourself.
33:13Do you feel like this is like your strongest look that you've done?
33:17No.
33:18I feel like you're a little kind of reserved today.
33:22Yeah.
33:23I'm sorry for it.
33:25Kinda.
33:26Yeah.
33:27Why?
33:28Yeah.
33:29What happened this week?
33:30I guess it might have been just like the whole 17 thing.
33:33I guess trying to make it younger.
33:35But the thing is that young doesn't mean casual.
33:39We all know you are a formal wear designer.
33:41I would have wanted for you this week to be your most Zach self.
33:46Am I it?
33:48Okay.
33:49I noticed that there were a lot of people going to work.
33:52But they weren't going in a suit and sitting behind a desk.
33:56A lot of women were using sort of basic pieces and then layering them.
34:00And so that's where this sort of like flat piece came in.
34:04Whenever your model turns, there's always something new that I noticed.
34:08There's so many different pieces to this outfit and you feel like you could take it apart and make
34:13it your own.
34:14You did a great job.
34:16Love the idea of seeing this in editorial.
34:17You know there could be a fan.
34:18It could have movement.
34:19It could be over the shoulder.
34:20She could felt it.
34:22This look is just so rich and expensive looking.
34:27You have mixed so many different textures.
34:31It really makes your look very dynamic.
34:36Okay.
34:37We're going to take a closer look at your designs and then we'll bring you back to the runway.
34:42Ugh, I want to just burn that jacket.
34:48I'm like, I'm sorry.
34:49It's ugly.
34:50I can't stop thinking about Hannah's.
34:52I didn't look like a casino worker.
34:53I just want to stay so I can do another thing next week and it'll be a lot better.
34:58Hi everyone.
34:59Hi.
35:00Should we start with Samantha?
35:02Ugh, so fabulous.
35:03I want to feel the sweater.
35:04It's all ribbed knit.
35:05Even the pockets, they're for the size of a phone.
35:08I love that she really took it in in the waist so it's very feminine.
35:12She's really thought about everything.
35:16Zachary.
35:17Okay, listen.
35:18This looks a little bit dynasty to me.
35:20I think he went way too sophisticated.
35:22The skirt is adorable.
35:23I'm just lost with the top.
35:25This skirt is like straight to market.
35:28Fabulous.
35:29This would like blow out of the stores.
35:30It would.
35:31This.
35:32This thing.
35:33I mean.
35:34Looks like you're about to get a haircut.
35:36This, this mask.
35:37It looks like a shower curtain to me.
35:39Yeah.
35:40This was an unfortunate mistake at this point in the competition.
35:46Petey.
35:47Will you take the vest off?
35:48It's cut so beautifully.
35:49It's incredibly done.
35:50It's way.
35:51What Petey achieved here is so elevated and cool and rich.
35:56Yeah.
35:57Zach.
35:58Oh boy.
35:59I don't know where Zach's woman is going in this outfit.
36:05Zach made a mistake this week.
36:08But he's still so talented.
36:09But he's still so great.
36:12Maya.
36:13Ugh.
36:14And then we have this little one.
36:15I mean, for her to lay these pieces out, freehand cut these, that's difficult.
36:19This is just such a finished look.
36:21I'm into Maya's stuff.
36:22Me too.
36:23I think she does a really great job.
36:26Ladies, shall we?
36:27Thank you guys so much.
36:30So is it between Maya and Samantha for the win?
36:33Yes.
36:34Yes.
36:35In this funny way, the color palette of both looks, they almost seem to be in the same family.
36:40Yeah.
36:41Like they could be in the same editorial.
36:43Mm-hmm.
36:44I like that you could mix Maya's pieces up and they would still feel fabulous.
36:48But Samantha's cargo pant does very much speak to like the real lives of young people.
36:55Okay, let's move on to who should go home.
36:59I hate this part.
37:00Zach and Jackson suffer from the physical making of things.
37:04Yeah.
37:05And oh my God, I feel Hannah's tears already coming on.
37:07Also, you know, they have really tough competition on the show.
37:10Yeah.
37:11Some of the other talent here is so unreal.
37:14Zach's confidence when he was talking about his look, you could just tell that he wasn't in love with it.
37:19It's hard.
37:20I don't know.
37:21So do we all agree?
37:24Let's bring them back.
37:27You all are so amazingly talented, but we're getting down to the wire.
37:34And now we have to make some tough decisions.
37:42Designers, you all are so amazingly talented, but we're getting down to the wire.
37:47And now we have to make some tough decisions.
37:53Maya, Samantha, you are both winners of this challenge.
37:59Oh my God!
38:01Both of your looks will be in Seventeen Magazine.
38:04Can we give each other a hug?
38:10And you can leave the runway.
38:14Thank you guys.
38:15All right, everybody, let's jump.
38:20Patey, Zachary, you're both in.
38:22You can leave the runway.
38:24Thank you so much.
38:27Zach, you're full of life and full of talent.
38:32You just lost your way a little bit in this challenge.
38:36Jackson, you always have big ideas.
38:39Today, those big ideas didn't go together.
38:47Zach, I'm sorry, you're out.
38:56Jackson, I'm sorry you're also out.
39:01You both have amazing potential.
39:08And I know this isn't going to be the last that we see of you.
39:12In fact, one day I want to wear both of your clothes, okay?
39:19Promise?
39:20Oh.
39:22Yeah.
39:23It's okay.
39:28And then we're more upset than they are.
39:30All right, let me give you guys a hug.
39:34Oh, thank you.
39:36Wow.
39:38I did not expect this.
39:40It's really hard being eliminated this close to the finale,
39:44because I know that I'm that close.
39:50I feel like I have so much more to show them.
39:56Fashion start off as my escape from all the negativity in the world.
39:59But knowing that people so high up really believe in me,
40:04tells me that this is my path in life.
40:07I'm going home.
40:08What, really?
40:09Yeah.
40:10Wait.
40:12Wait, you both are?
40:13You're going home?
40:14You're not going home.
40:15We're both going.
40:17Oh my gosh.
40:19I'm going to miss all the wonderful people and designers
40:22that I see basically every day.
40:25Oh my God, I can't watch him cry.
40:28We grew and meshed together like one big family.
40:32Oh my gosh.
40:33I'm going to miss you.
40:35This is the hardest moment of the whole season.
40:38And I'm going to share with you that I'm a bit of a mess.
40:44We are too.
40:46You have profound places in this industry and you must carry on.
40:51Well, I have to send you the work room to clean up your space.
40:55It was very hard to say goodbye to the designers.
40:59We've all gotten very close.
41:00Love you too.
41:04Leave in a dramatic pool of glitter.
41:07Boom!
41:10I'm not ready to go home.
41:12But I'm going to keep on designing, doing what I love.
41:16I guess the main thing is saying goodbye to all the experiences that I might be missing out on.
41:26But I'm holding my head up high, finishing high school.
41:30I'm going to keep doing fashion design and just give beauty to the world.
41:35Beauty to the world.
41:36Beauty to the world.
