00:00Previously on Project Runway Junior.
00:03You'll each be assigned one of these bold, vibrant murals
00:06to use as your inspiration for your look.
00:08And we are only sending four designers to the finale.
00:12So that means two of you will be eliminated.
00:17I think that I really have to prove to the judges that I belong here
00:20because I have been on the bottom so often.
00:22Oh, I didn't realize how much work there was to take.
00:24I'm screwed.
00:25You were the only designer with a palette that didn't include
00:28a lot of vibrant color.
00:30I'm trying to put on the pants, and they're really tight.
00:33I don't know what's happened with Tyler.
00:34Like, last week he had a fit issue,
00:36and this week it's happening too.
00:37It is all going downhill.
00:40Wow.
00:41White crushed velvet, what are we doing?
00:44I can't say that I'm excited about seeing
00:47six looks of crop tops and skirts.
00:49You really, really went out of your comfort zone with this,
00:51and it paid off in such a huge way.
00:53Chelsea, you are the winner of this challenge.
00:56Molly, we don't feel like you're pushing your designs enough.
01:01I'm sorry you're out.
01:03Tyler, Hawa, you are both neither in nor out.
01:08What we are going to do is give you the chance to create collections for the finale.
01:13But only one of you will show.
01:16I feel underdressed.
01:35Hello, designers.
01:36Hi.
01:37Welcome back to the runway.
01:40Chris, Izzy, and Chelsea, congratulations for making it to the Project Runway Junior finale.
01:51I'm technically number one, because if you look at it, I have more wins.
01:53I've been saved more than anyone, and I haven't been on the bottom once.
01:56So, number one.
01:59We are so incredibly proud of all five of you.
02:03You've been presenting excellent work.
02:05We just want to tell you, though, your most challenging work is ahead of you.
02:10Each of you will be designing a six-piece spring collection.
02:13We will be sending each of you home, where you will have five weeks.
02:17Whoa.
02:18Dang.
02:19Wow.
02:20And a budget of $4,000 to put your collections together.
02:24And, oh my gosh, that's so much money.
02:27If you do the math, it equals up to $666 per piece.
02:30I did it in my head.
02:33Just kidding.
02:34I used a calculator.
02:35Hawa, Tyler, you'll be competing for the fourth and final spot in the finale show.
02:40When you arrive for the finale, you will present the judges with a preview of each of your collections.
02:46And the judges will decide who between you will move forward to the actual finale.
02:51I love Hawa, but it's coming down to the point where, like, I have to beat Hawa, and then I have to beat everyone else.
02:58It's a lot of pressure.
02:59Are you up to it?
03:00Yeah.
03:01You are.
03:02Yes.
03:03Good.
03:04I do believe that I can beat Tyler.
03:05Our styles are so different that it won't be too hard to see whose collection should get this final spot.
03:10You will also get an opportunity to check out the prestigious FIDM in California,
03:15because that is where your finale work run will be.
03:17Oh.
03:18Oh, my gosh.
03:19I'm so excited to go to Los Angeles.
03:20I love New York, but Los Angeles is cool, too.
03:24Just think, one of you will be the winner of Project Runway Junior.
03:28So work, work, work, work, work.
03:29All right.
03:30Good luck, and we'll see you soon.
03:32Thank you so much.
03:33Bye.
03:34Bye.
03:35Oh, you guys have no idea.
03:36You guys don't know what's going to hit you.
03:38We'll ask the designers to document their progress while they're at home.
03:41Let's head down to the Louisiana Bayou to see how Tyler's collection is coming along.
03:46It is 8.08.
03:47I've been working since 12, and I have two very big pieces done.
03:55Downstairs, I have my mom, Miss Tammy, and the shoes.
04:00Mom, did you expect me to get this far?
04:02I expected you to be further, but...
04:04No, I mean in the competition.
04:05That's what I'm saying.
04:07Do you see the abuse I get here?
04:09But I'm very proud of you, and your collection's going to be amazing.
04:13Izzy is in Michigan.
04:15Let's check in with her.
04:17Hi, everyone.
04:18This is my house.
04:19So I'm working on this look right now, and it's just not cohesive with the rest of my looks.
04:24Oh, I just really need to get going because there's not that many days left, and I'm like only halfway through.
04:30Okay, fine.
04:31Let's check in on Chelsea in Southern California.
04:34Hey, so right now I am eating lunch with my family and my parents.
04:40This is about one of the only times a day that we get together, and this is our food.
04:44Say hi.
04:45Hello.
04:46I have one week left, and I have literally two and a half outfits done.
04:52Like, this is all I have, and I'm so scared.
04:55Oh my gosh, it's so bad.
04:56So I'll make a hashtag, pray for Chelsea.
04:59Let's check in on Hawa way up north in Minnesota.
05:03So much homework.
05:05Why are they doing this to me?
05:08This is the finale piece.
05:09I'm doing it not last.
05:11I'm doing it now.
05:12I've got to fix it still, but this is it.
05:15Okay, so it's one day before I leave to California, and my mother's not coming.
05:20I'm very excited and proud that Hawa has had the opportunity to be on her favorite show.
05:29This is my little brother.
05:30What do you think of my collection?
05:32A little kid.
05:33Well, he's a hater.
05:38Finally, back in New York, let's get an update from Chris.
05:42Hi, it's me.
05:43So, just wanted to do an update.
05:46I have everything done, except for an entire look, which is three pieces that I have yet
05:55to start.
05:56So, I have two days and three pieces, and that math doesn't add up, but I'ma, you know,
06:02get it done.
06:07And before you know it, it's time for all of us to reconvene for the finale.
06:11We're in Los Angeles at FIDM.
06:21I love it.
06:22You guys have the same Oxford funds.
06:24We do.
06:26I'm not going to lie.
06:27I'm nervous going into this, because I don't know how it can pull out in a five-week time
06:32frame with $4,000.
06:33So, I'm nervous.
06:34I'm not going to lie.
06:36Tyler is slowly unpacking his things, and I'm just waiting to see what he puts on the
06:41rack.
06:42I'm just so anxious to see it.
06:43Does anyone happen to have an extra hanger that they would like to give me?
06:46I'll have one ready in a second.
06:48We all spent, you know, five weeks working on these collections, but only, you know,
06:51one person out of Tyler and Halbaugh gets the show.
06:54That's so much time and energy, and it stinks.
06:57Oh, this is so cool.
06:58Oh my gosh.
07:00I feel really good about my collection.
07:01It's going to be a little bit strange to some people, but it being totally different from
07:05everyone else's is a good thing, so I'm really proud of what I have.
07:09Why do you have so many pieces?
07:11There's so many.
07:12Oh, because this is, I just brought these two.
07:14This has to be more than six looks.
07:15No, it's not.
07:16It's not?
07:17This is all six together?
07:18Yeah, this goes together.
07:19So much layering.
07:20I even like the inside.
07:21You've just been sewing like night and day.
07:22Even the inside looks good.
07:24Now that I have seen Halba's collection, I honestly think she has the strongest collection
07:28besides me.
07:29I almost feel a little bad for Tyler.
07:30Is this like a dress?
07:31Yeah, this is a dress.
07:32Oh.
07:33It's a raincoat.
07:34It's a dress underneath.
07:35Oh, I see.
07:36Fully aligned.
07:37Being Tyler and Hauer right now is like, you're not on level 100 yet.
07:40You're still trying to get like past level 99.5 and everyone is past it but you.
07:46Oh my gosh.
07:47Did you do this?
07:48Yeah, it's all like so.
07:49This is crazy.
07:50I'm very happy that I'm not in Tyler or Hauer's position.
07:53It's kind of strange knowing that one of them won't be showing and one of them's going
07:57home.
07:58I just feel really bad for whoever doesn't get to show.
08:00Tyler, can I see yours?
08:01I haven't seen Tyler's either.
08:02Wow.
08:03Wow.
08:04That's stunning.
08:05I am a lot more nervous competing against Tyler because this collection is so good and
08:12I'm afraid that it's just going to overpower mine but I think my collection is still great
08:16so you never know what could happen.
08:19I'm Tim.
08:20Hi everyone.
08:21Hello Tim.
08:22How are you?
08:23Good.
08:24And how do you like your new work room?
08:29These seats are fantastic.
08:31Bravo to the seats.
08:32I got a cushion.
08:33Alright.
08:34Well let's all thank the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising for hosting us
08:38here in LA.
08:40Thank you FIDM.
08:41And I want you all to look around because one of you will receive a scholarship to this
08:46venerable institution.
08:47How exciting is that?
08:48True.
08:49If I won this, having a spot secured at a nice college would be really great.
08:54And I want this prize.
08:56Next door is our LA version of the Brothers Sewing and Embroidery Studio.
09:01And JustFab has provided accessories and shoes should you need them.
09:07So designers, there is a lot of work to be done.
09:11And of course I'll be checking in with each of you to look at your collections.
09:14I'm very eager to do that.
09:16But first, we need to address something that has been keeping me up at night.
09:21Hawa and Tyler, the two of you will be competing for one space in the finale show.
09:28I'm just so happy that the judges decided to give me a second chance.
09:31I want to pull a Michelle Lesniak.
09:33She almost went home, they decided to save her, and then she came back and she won the
09:37whole thing.
09:38Hawa, I love you to death, but you gotta go.
09:40I gotta win this.
09:41You will each choose two looks from your six look collection.
09:46So your models will walk the runway and the judges will have a deliberation and decide
09:52which one of you will join Izzy and Chelsea and Chris for the finale show.
09:58It's kind of nice that I still have another chance to prove to the judges that I am a really
10:03confident and good designer, even though I was on the bottom four times.
10:07I will be back later to check in with Hawa and Tyler, and everyone, all five of you,
10:13work, work, work, work.
10:14All right?
10:15I'll see you later.
10:17If anyone's wondering, the reason I'm goth is because this collection killed my soul.
10:22Ooh.
10:23I feel really bad for whoever doesn't get to show their collection, because to, like,
10:28have worked this hard and then not get to show it, that would be, like, so terrible.
10:33Is this one of the two looks you're showing?
10:35No.
10:36Why are you working on it?
10:37I don't know what I'm going to show yet.
10:38You don't know what you're going to do?
10:39You're going to wait for your thing with Tim?
10:40Yeah.
10:41I originally thought that Tyler might have the upper hand just because he has more experience
10:45and the history of the competition.
10:47But after seeing both of their collections, I think the tides have turned.
10:53Hello, Mr. Tim, Hi.
10:54Tyler, Hawa, I'm here to check in with you.
11:08Hawa, I'm eager to see what you've done.
11:11So for my collection, I was inspired by the circus,
11:13and I just wanted to do something fun and entertaining
11:17that's like eye-catching.
11:18Okay, this jumpsuit is my personal favorite.
11:20I just decided to just do something pretty crazy,
11:24and then the more color blocking in the back.
11:26Well, it's interesting for me to see
11:28what you can achieve when you have more time.
11:30This one too,
11:32because I really like how I put the pattern
11:35inside of this see-through material.
11:38I like it too.
11:39So next up is this overall that I decided to do,
11:43and it's made out of faux fur.
11:44It makes me smile.
11:46Yay.
11:47So next, all three of these go together.
11:49I have this coat,
11:51and these are like clay pieces that I pieced together
11:54and put glitter on.
11:55This is just gonna go underneath.
11:56Do the black and white panels reverse?
11:59Not in the front.
12:00I want it to be like half white, half black,
12:02and then the back they reverse.
12:04Pieces underneath are throwaways.
12:09The statement here is this outerwear.
12:14I think you need to play this up as the main act
12:18and style it accordingly.
12:19And I believe cinching the waist would help.
12:22Next one is this shirt with the skirt.
12:26And I just did the shirt pretty plain
12:28because I wanted basically all the attention
12:30on this jacket that I made.
12:31Mm-hmm.
12:32You know, in the circus,
12:33how there's like an announcer
12:34Mm-hmm.
12:35Who announces everything.
12:36Ringleader.
12:37Yeah.
12:38And that's what I wanted to go off of.
12:40For this look, I just decided to do
12:42some more of the color blocking
12:44because I know the judges like that,
12:46and I actually like it too.
12:47So with this jacket...
12:48Can you take it off the rack?
12:49Yeah.
12:50So are you considering this for the judges for tomorrow?
12:57Kind of.
12:59I'd say it looks very boudoir.
13:01Boudoir?
13:03I'm like, a boo-what?
13:06Like a cover-up for a negligee.
13:09Whoa, Tim. Calm down, okay?
13:13This is a kid's show.
13:15So like a nightgown or something?
13:17More like a robe, but it has that boudoir feel
13:20that nothing else has.
13:22That's not necessarily like an insult.
13:26It's not necessarily a compliment.
13:28Take your favorites.
13:32Mm-hmm.
13:33Put them on each of your models during the fitting
13:36and just be critical and objective
13:38about what looks best.
13:41Okay.
13:42I want you to knock the judges' socks off
13:44because tomorrow is a big day.
13:49Usually I don't get this nervous,
13:51but I think the fact that I still have to compete
13:53with Tyler is just wrecking my brain,
13:55and I'm afraid that Tyler's just gonna basically
13:59jump over me and just take this final spot.
14:03All right, Hawa.
14:04Carry on. Work hard.
14:05Thank you, Tim.
14:07Tyler, how are you doing?
14:08I'm doing really, really well.
14:10I've worked so hard on this collection.
14:11It's like the wall that I have to break down
14:13of, like, whether I'm getting into the finale or not.
14:15Well, take me on a tour.
14:16It's all based off of Van Gogh.
14:17Everything that's embroidered are replicas of his paintings.
14:21Who did the embroidery?
14:22I work with a local embroiderer in New Orleans.
14:24Okay.
14:25Every single piece has embroidery on it
14:27except for this raincoat.
14:29Okay.
14:31This is, I call it big blue.
14:32It's T-length.
14:33This blouse goes underneath.
14:35Goes underneath?
14:36Yes.
14:38Yeah, it's chic.
14:38It's elegant.
14:40The one after that, yellow daisy goes underneath of this.
14:44Mm-hmm.
14:45So this covers up this.
14:47So it looks like it's one piece.
14:49Mm-hmm.
14:50And each piece has, like, really small bumblebees on it
14:54because there's a theory that whenever he was painting,
14:56bumblebees would come and they'd be, like, confused
14:58because his colors were so vibrant.
14:59They thought the painted flowers were the actual flowers.
15:03This goes with a blue raincoat, and then underneath is this
15:10with flower clusters all over.
15:12And then I have a top and a pant with embroidery on the collar
15:17and on the pant leg at the bottom.
15:20And then I have a overlay that opens in the front,
15:24so whenever she's walking, it'll open up.
15:28Mm-hmm.
15:29Okay.
15:29And then I have, like, a springtime coat, and I did all
15:33the bumblebees coming out of the pockets because I wanted
15:35to look like all the bumblebees are swarming to the cluster.
15:39Mm-hmm.
15:40And this is the finale piece.
15:41This is going underneath the white finale dress.
15:45It has, this is 20 yards of chiffon on the bottom,
15:47and it's all hand-embroidered flowers.
15:50And what I'm going to show is the first piece and the last piece
15:53because I want them to wonder, like, what's in the middle?
15:56Like, how do we get from this to this?
15:57I think Tyler could show any two of his six looks,
16:00and it would still be, you know, kind of the same
16:03because everything has that, like, you know,
16:04it's embroidered, it's simple with embroidery,
16:07that same kind of vibe.
16:09All right.
16:11We need to talk.
16:13None of this, including the color,
16:15would ever take me to Van Gogh.
16:18Well, that sucks.
16:19Am I going to, like, have to make another collection?
16:21It's like, ugh, yikes.
16:23Ugh.
16:27All right, we need to talk.
16:37I have great respect for this collection.
16:43You need to be very careful about how you describe this
16:46to the judges because none of this, including the color,
16:50would ever take me to Van Gogh.
16:53The fact that it propelled you forward
16:55and allowed you to create this work is what's so important.
16:59Otherwise, I'm looking at this thinking,
17:01where's Van Gogh?
17:01Where's Van Gogh?
17:02That even your finale piece, without the embroidery,
17:08it's sort of a hippy-dippy dress.
17:11Mr. Tim, you know, like, I really respect you,
17:12but, like, I disagree.
17:14Disagree?
17:14Yeah.
17:15This is my favorite collection I've ever made.
17:17I feel a very personal connection with this.
17:18And I think this, like, screams Van Gogh.
17:20Can you hold up the first look again?
17:23It worries me.
17:24I'd be much more inclined to go here.
17:27I think it's a better idea to show the first and last piece.
17:29I think there's, like, more change between this and that.
17:31Oh, I totally agree.
17:32But you know what the change is.
17:34I think it's a better idea to show the first and last piece.
17:35I think there's, like, more change between this and that.
17:37Oh, I totally agree.
17:38Yeah.
17:39But you know what the change is.
17:41The judges don't.
17:42It's blind faith.
17:44I believe blind faith puts you at risk.
17:47And I don't want you to be at risk.
17:49Unfortunately for Tyler, he got a bad critique.
17:51But that's kind of good for me,
17:53because now I'm feeling a lot more confident in my designs.
17:56I think I really have a good chance
17:58of getting this finale spot.
17:59My own thought is this and this.
18:05The more of a show you can make these two looks appear to be,
18:09the better.
18:10That's why I think if you can tease it with pieces that have a little more of a narrative
18:15to them and feel, at least to me, more like the Tyler I know, I think the better off you
18:22are.
18:23So I almost view Van Gogh as, like, a jumping off point.
18:25Right.
18:26Okay.
18:27So Tim's, like, issue wasn't the collection as a whole.
18:28I think it's just the way I described the collection.
18:31So I'm going to describe it, like, more now as, like, much more of, like, a spiritual
18:35connection and almost, like, having Van Gogh almost be, like, a spiritual guide and, like,
18:38you standing by me, like, every moment of it.
18:41All right, Tyler.
18:42All right, Mr. Tim.
18:45Izzy, Chelsea, Chris.
18:46Hello.
18:47I will be checking in with you after we get through tomorrow's judging.
18:49Okay.
18:50Okay.
18:51That's fine.
18:52Yeah.
18:53So work, work, work, work, work.
18:54All of you.
18:55Okay.
18:56I will see you tomorrow.
18:57Okay?
18:58Okay.
18:59Thank you, Tim.
19:00All right, guys, it's 6 o'clock.
19:09Let's go.
19:10Wait.
19:11Wait for me.
19:12Come on, kid.
19:17Welcome to the Butter London Glam Room.
19:26So we're going to use the Union Jack Black, a little inky 6, gorgeous cheekbones, double
19:32decker mascara.
19:34Thanks, beauty.
19:36Yeah.
19:40Good morning.
19:41Good morning.
19:42Your models are currently in the Butter London Beauty Studio for their makeup and our hair
19:48studio using Sally Beauty hair products.
19:52When your models arrive, you will have 30 minutes to dress them for the runway.
19:56All right?
19:57Okay.
19:58Well, work, work, work, work.
19:59All right.
20:00Thank you, Tim.
20:02Thank you, sir.
20:03Hello, my love.
20:07Oh, you guys look so good.
20:10I'm good.
20:11All right.
20:12You guys ready?
20:13Yes.
20:14Okay.
20:15Let me do this really, really quickly.
20:17Do you need any help?
20:18Press.
20:19I can press.
20:20No, I'm good.
20:21What happened?
20:22I'm going to see you rip it a little bit.
20:24So I was feeling so great this morning, but now there's threads hanging out of my finale
20:29piece.
20:30The jumpsuit will not fit over her foot.
20:32My shoes are too big, and I'm looking over at Tyler, and he seems so calm, and he already
20:37basically has his models in the designs already.
20:40Tyler and Hawa, in 10 minutes, you and your models and are already going to the runway.
20:46I think when I make it to the finale, I'm going to add, like, an extension to the shirt.
20:50I really, really want this.
20:51I worked unbelievably hard for this, so.
20:53I could be in, like, that hall of fame of people that won Frederick O'Neill Jr., and I
20:57think that is so cool.
20:58When you look me up, it's going to say Tyler James, Frederick O'Neill Jr. winner.
21:02Like, you can't send me pack it back to New Orleans.
21:05Oh!
21:06Your body looks snatched in that.
21:12All right, Hawa and Tyler, you and your models and I are going to the runway.
21:18Off we go.
21:22Hello, Tyler.
21:23Hello, Hawa.
21:24Hi.
21:25Welcome back to the runway.
21:26And welcome to the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles.
21:39In just a few short days, the Project Runway Jr. finalists will be showing collections right
21:45here in this very space.
21:47And, unfortunately, only one of you will be joining them.
21:50How are you guys feeling?
21:52I'm nervous.
21:53Tyler, are you confident in your choices?
21:56This is my favorite collection I've ever made, and I really hope you guys love it as
22:00much as I do, so.
22:01I'm down for the cause.
22:03Hawa, how about you?
22:04Well, this is my first collection that I've ever made, so I think it's really good.
22:08So we both went home to create six look collections.
22:11Based on two of the looks of those collections, one of you will move forward to the finale.
22:16All right, let's say hello to the judges.
22:18First, we have CFDA designer, Christian Siriano.
22:21Hi, guys.
22:22Fashion critic, author, and designer herself, Kelly Osborn.
22:26Hi, designers.
22:27And fashion director for Cosmopolitan and Seventeen magazines, Aya Kanai.
22:32Hi.
22:33Also, we have Tim Gunn here for the runway show.
22:37As you know, he is your mentor and will not be judging your looks.
22:40All right, it's time for the show.
22:42Woo!
22:43Woo!
22:47Ooh.
22:59The collection is so different from basically everything that I've done throughout the entire
23:03competition.
23:04But I think that's what fashion's about.
23:05It's about taking risks.
23:06You've got to hope for the best.
23:08I think I just have, like, a really personal connection, like, with this collection.
23:12I hope they want to see more.
23:13And I'm really happy with it.
23:16The Van Gogh collection resonated with, like, my spring aesthetic because that's what I do.
23:25I like to play with colors.
23:26I like to play with motion.
23:27So this is a really good collection for me.
23:29If I go home on these looks, I'm going to be okay with that because I really love the looks.
23:34I'm proud of it.
23:39Tabitha looks fantastic.
23:40Priscilla looks like an angel.
23:42I almost start crying because I've only seen these looks on, like, a dress form and on a hanger.
23:47I haven't seen them on, like, actual people yet.
23:49So I'm ecstatic.
23:51I love it.
24:04My jumpsuit is the first thing that comes down the runway, and it is looking good on her.
24:09You can't really see that I sold her in, which is also good.
24:13And I really like the pink shoes along with the jumpsuit.
24:16It brings out the color.
24:17My model walks away.
24:18The back of the jumpsuit looks amazing.
24:21I think I made a really good choice with picking this jumpsuit.
24:24The next look is my finale piece, and it is just giving me all types of movement on the runway.
24:30Movement is not really a big thing in my designs, so this is definitely something different for me.
24:36And I really think I took a great risk by using movement in this design.
24:43As the clothes come down the runway, I do think they look really good.
24:48But I'm just trying to see all the mistakes that I've made and what the judges might pick apart.
24:53And I don't know, I think I'm overanalyzing everything.
24:56But I'm super proud of what I send down the runway.
24:58I think I made a really good choice in the two pieces I've picked.
25:02The winner of Project Runway Junior will receive a full scholarship to the prestigious FIDM in California,
25:12a complete home sewing and crafting studio, plus the dream machine, all courtesy of Brother,
25:18a feature in Seventeen Magazine, and a $25,000 cash prize to help launch their line.
25:24Also, Butter London will supply a year's worth of products and the opportunity to consult with Butter London
25:30to create a limited edition nail color collection.
25:33And styles from their finale collection will be manufactured by Los Angeles Development House, Lefty Production Company.
25:40Hala, tell us about your two looks and how they represent your collection.
25:55My collection was inspired by the circus slash the carnival.
25:59And I decided to choose these two looks because I really think they represent my collection the most
26:04without really giving it away.
26:06So for my first look, it is the clown of the circus, basically.
26:12And I just wanted to do something with the color blocking that I really love doing.
26:16And for my next look, it is inspired by the ringleader of the circus.
26:21And I wanted to work with texture and color.
26:25Hala, I think you did a great job and this was an excellent teaser.
26:29I'm certainly curious to see what else you have going on in your collection.
26:34I like the way that you always commit to a really bold color story.
26:39You're the kind of designer who will really go there with print, color, texture.
26:46You took a lot of risks and you have a lot creatively going on here.
26:52And it's youthful and that's a good thing, but it's on the borderline of juvenile.
26:58The jumpsuit, I was like, wow, I would totally wear that.
27:01I saw the whole circus vibe.
27:03I loved that.
27:04I love that it has 360 appeal as well as mirror appeal, especially when you go down and you look at the cuff of the pants where it switches the fabrics.
27:13And when you turn around and walk out, then you get another wow factor from it.
27:16I love the color blocking, but it's definitely not as crazy as the back, which I like that you had that surprise kind of moment in the back.
27:23It's fun, but it's just not sophisticated.
27:27But I really love today that it felt a little bit more romantic, a more kind of light story.
27:33Even though the fabrics are heavy, it's almost like the clothes felt more real, more lived in, not just like you were playing fashion designer.
27:39They felt more like a real design thought out feeling.
27:43And I think what you showed today was really smart.
27:46You showed that your technical ability is so much more advanced than what we got to see always, which for me is really exciting.
27:53I'm so I love seeing these top stitch pleats on these sleeves.
27:56I think they're beautiful.
27:57They're really well done.
27:58You have some issues in the back of this skirt, but that's okay.
28:01And then the back of the jumpsuit.
28:03Technically, this is really hard to do, you know, to make that, you know, look great, fit well.
28:08Not everyone is going to love these clothes.
28:10I mean, they're, they're intense.
28:12They're a moment.
28:13People can, you know, might think of this as costumey in that vibe.
28:17But I think what's great is that, you know, you really went for it.
28:20You, you know, stuck with your world, what you love.
28:23What's really challenging for me here is that a lot of the looks are starting to look a little repetitive.
28:28And I just don't know if that's your technical ability or it's just your editing eye.
28:32And for me, I want to see something new and something exciting.
28:36Tyler, tell us about your two looks and how they represent your collection.
28:40The challenge was to make a spring collection.
28:42And while looking for inspiration, I came across Van Gogh's floral paintings.
28:46And I instantly got this like spiritual and personal connection with it.
28:49So like Van Gogh was a jumping off point for the collection.
28:52Did you hand sew all the floral appliques?
28:55Yeah, I worked with an embroiderer in New Orleans.
28:58She embroidered this directly onto the dress and then she did this on a piece of fabric
29:03and then these on a piece of fabric and I hand sewed them on.
29:06Why was it important to you to outsource some of the kind of like crucial creative elements?
29:12Um, I don't know, like I'm really like a huge like supporter of like local artists.
29:16Like why not like get someone I know and love and like, I don't know, like sponsor them to like do something for me.
29:21Okay, it's interesting because over this past season of getting to know you,
29:27it's so different than what we have seen from you and it is very pretty in the best possible of ways.
29:35It's also sort of interestingly sort of more conservative in styling in the color palette.
29:42It kind of has a sort of more demure almost southern aspect to it.
29:48That actually a lot of your work up until this point has been antithesis of what is stereotypically southern.
29:55It is truly a reflection of how exceptional you are from a technical point of view.
30:02Like you are the kind of designer that can really sort of pull off anything.
30:06And it's a hundred and eighty degrees different each time we see you.
30:12And so it has been such a pleasure to see your designs over the course of this competition.
30:18I know that we've always got on you about your construction because it's something you're so good at.
30:23But for example, in your first look, I kind of feel like the structure is fighting against the fluidity.
30:29So I wish that the dress underneath had a little bit more of a flow, wasn't so structured.
30:34Can I see what it looks like without the jacket on?
30:35Of course.
30:36Very chic.
30:41What really threw me today was this was nothing we've ever seen from you and so unexpected because usually there's so much structure.
30:49And you can see every hemline, every dart, every pleat, where everything goes.
30:53And you left more to the imagination here.
30:56It's another level that we see in you that I appreciate and I love.
31:00And it just goes to show how talented you really are.
31:04Here's what it is.
31:05I think there's a lot of really great elements to these looks for sure.
31:08I think the bee, it's embroidery right on the bees.
31:11I mean, I think that is fantastic.
31:13It's beautiful.
31:14It's so kind of ethereal as it climbs up the coat.
31:18I mean, it's really well placed really like that is beautifully, beautifully done.
31:22I love that.
31:23And I love the idea of embroidering on these other pieces, I think.
31:26And that kind of brings this kind of vintage quality that I think brands right now are really thriving on.
31:32I mean, Gucci is building a huge empire out of that.
31:35True.
31:36What's confusing for me is that the entire season we saw sculpture, we saw oversized sleeves, we saw drop waist, we saw boxy coats.
31:43You kind of have none of that here.
31:45I actually think that these shapes are quite simple and you really didn't push it the way I thought you would.
31:52I do like the embroidery.
31:53I think it's adorable.
31:54I actually like this sort of southern thing that I'm seeing.
31:58There's something sort of endearing and cute about that.
32:01Sometimes when you have an embroidery, maybe you do want to stick to a simple silhouette.
32:06I actually really like this baby blue dress because I think it fits like a glove.
32:11But this jacket I'm a little confused by because I don't think it really adds anything to it.
32:15I would just take the jacket off, put her in a pair of heels or something and I think you'd get a different vibe from this whole collection.
32:24I do love your little bumblebees and I think that you should have that be something that's in everything that you do.
32:30I think it's such a cute little thing to look out for.
32:32Models, thank you. You guys can lead the runway.
32:37Designers, we have one more question for you.
32:47Tyler, why do you think you should move forward to the Project Runway Junior finale?
32:52I eat, breathe, sleep, fashion. This is my life. I'm fashion.
32:56You guys saved me for a reason.
33:02Howa, why do you think you should move forward to the Project Runway Junior finale?
33:07I believe I should move forward because I want to show people that no matter where you come from or how you look or where you believe in,
33:13you can actually do something that you really enjoy and even though you may be a little strange, that's okay.
33:18And you know, if you believe that you're great, then you are and you should have the opportunity to do things.
33:24All right, we've enjoyed talking to you both. We have a very big decision to make that will not be easy. You can lead the runway.
33:44All right, we have a tough decision to make. Let's talk about Tyler.
33:48I like the vintage reference. There are parts that I like. And I thought the technique of it was quite beautiful.
33:53When his first look took the jacket off, I looked at that and I thought to myself, yes, it's a pretty dress. And yes, I would wear that.
34:01Fine. We all know that Howa has more tailoring and craftsmanship challenges than Tyler does.
34:07Right. Absolutely.
34:08Tyler comes into this competition from day one with a highly curated, very high taste level.
34:17And that's why I can't accept what we're seeing here today. It doesn't have that high taste level that we've seen from him.
34:28Right.
34:29The shapes were so, so basic. I mean, as much as I really am just not into the world,
34:34I do think what is nice to think about is there's some commercial viability here that those clothes probably would sell and hang at retail.
34:41And Howa might have a harder time finding enough customers to be into her world.
34:48All right, let's talk about Howa.
34:50She continues to give us something on this runway every single week that is different, that makes us think, that is interesting, that is intricate.
34:59But there is something about her that to me is unique and special in a whole new way that the fashion industry is ready for.
35:07In some ways, there's this lightness and this charm to the fact that she kind of is the inventor of her own mini universe.
35:16Yeah.
35:17And I love to see the people that she populates in her world.
35:22I mean, in Howa's, I don't even really like Howa's clothes that much either.
35:25I think there's problems there.
35:26I think she still does have technical things.
35:28I think it still, you know, is border costuming.
35:31But I like that we know her world.
35:34We know, I think, a collection.
35:35I actually am more excited to see other things, which is strange.
35:40I feel like she should be a costume designer.
35:42I think that her designs are not, like, forward thinking.
35:45I think that they could be cool in a play or in a movie.
35:48They're funky and they're cool and they're wild and they're quirky.
35:51But do I see them at, you know, New York Fashion Week?
35:54Or do I see people wanting to buy her clothes?
35:57I mean, I think Howa's stuff is fun, but I just don't think it's sophisticated.
36:00I get what you mean by that.
36:03They both have their own challenges to kind of overcome.
36:08But I would be interested to see a collection from both of them just in such different ways.
36:17Have we made our decision?
36:19Howa, Tyler, one of you will be moving forward to the Project Runway Junior finale.
36:43And unfortunately, one of you will be out.
36:46Howa, Tyler, one of you will be moving forward and unfortunately, one of you will be out.
37:05You both are incredibly talented and we wish we could advance both of you to the finale.
37:09But this is a competition and unfortunately, only one of you can move forward to the Project Runway Junior finale.
37:18Howa, you've had some ups and downs throughout this competition.
37:21But you've grown so much and it's been such an honor to watch you evolve as a designer.
37:28The two looks you showed us today were undoubtedly you.
37:33They were bold, confident and colorful.
37:36Just like you.
37:37You still have some technical and editing issues, but we are intrigued to see what the rest of your collection looks like.
37:43Tyler, you've been a fashion force to be reckoned with since day one of this competition.
37:50You've shown us exciting and innovative fashion week after week and your execution is impeccable.
37:57The two looks you showed us today were pretty.
38:01We loved the vintage vibe and the embroidery, but the silhouettes were basic and a bit boring.
38:07You just didn't push it enough.
38:10We missed your fashion forward edgy aesthetic.
38:13Howa, Tyler, only one of you will be moving forward to the Project Runway Junior finale.
38:19Howa, you're in.
38:28You will join the other finalists to compete to be the winner of Project Runway Junior.
38:36Thank you guys so much.
38:38Oh my God.
38:41You can leave the runway.
38:49Tyler, unfortunately that means you're out.
38:57Seth Levine, am I right?
38:59Tyler, please remember how very talented you are.
39:03There is no doubt you will go on to have a huge career in fashion,
39:06and I can't wait to wear a Tyler James original design.
39:11Dang.
39:12And I mean that, like...
39:14I'm so sorry that we have to see you go, and when you stood here and you said I am fashion,
39:38that is still 100% true, and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing your work in the future.
39:48Thanks.
39:51You better do a jig over this runway.
39:54I might.
39:56I'm actually a really good runway walker, if you didn't know.
39:58I bet you are.
40:00All right, Tyler, you can leave the runway, so make your scrim shot count.
40:04Got a blast.
40:07All right, thank you.
40:10Work it!
40:19Hi Tyler.
40:21In the end, I'm really happy with what I did, and like, I think as long as like you're happy with yourself and you're happy with like what you did, that's all that matters.
40:29I have no regrets whatsoever of going out of the box. I would not have changed a thing.
40:34You okay?
40:35Yeah, I'm good.
40:37It'll hit me later, too.
40:38Yeah, I'll be good.
40:40How is everyone?
40:42Great.
40:43Well, we all came here knowing that this week would begin with a face-off between Hawa and Tyler for the last spot in the finale.
40:51And we now know the outcome.
40:53So Tyler, I have to send you to the work room to clean up your space, okay?
40:56It's LA. It's supposed to be different.
40:59I'm really not disappointed in myself at all.
41:01It's like, I know it sucks, but I know this is not the end.
41:05We all know how talented you are.
41:07And we're gonna hear a lot more from you.
41:08Sure will. I got a big mouth.
41:10You guys are never gonna not see me.
41:13I'm telling you, I'm gonna, I'm gonna be big.
41:20Hawa, congratulations.
41:21Thank you so much.
41:22Much, much, much, much, much, much deserved.
41:25I cannot believe this is happening.
41:26This is amazing.
41:27And I really appreciate this opportunity.
41:30All right.
41:31All for one, one for all.
41:33Woo!
41:34Yay, I'm in finale.
41:35I'm so happy.
41:36Thank you so much.
41:37Congrats.
41:39We can all celebrate now.
41:41Next time on Project Runway Junior.
41:43Izzy, Chelsea, Chris, Hawa.
41:45You are the final four.
41:47Second season in a row.
41:48There's only one guy in the top four.
41:50Hello.
41:53Like, is this for real?
41:54Like, is this happening?
41:55These have got to go.
41:56Look at your face.
41:57We need to talk.
41:58Is this a collection?
42:00It's the real deal.
42:01Our dreams are gonna be made or broken in these next two hours.
42:05All of you are very talented, but only one of you will be the winner of Project Runway Junior.
42:10We'll be right back here.
