00:00Am I really here? Like, is it happening?
00:17I could probably do 27 consecutive backflips.
00:20I'm on Project Runway Junior!
00:25New York is like fashion capital of the world.
00:27Just being able to come design here.
00:29Oh, my God!
00:31I am ready.
00:32This is real. This is really happening to me.
00:35It's so amazing.
00:37I am super excited to be here.
00:39I just want to, like, blow up right now.
00:41I'm like, yeah! Oh, God!
00:43Oh!
00:44Oh, my God, are you okay?
00:45Yeah, I'm fine.
00:50I'm Izzy, I'm 16, and I'm in Central Park in New York City,
00:53and it's really exciting because I've never been here before.
00:56Just so incredibly awestruck.
00:59And I'm like, what is happening?
01:01My name's Izzy.
01:02It's nice to meet you.
01:03Allie.
01:04It's really cool to meet the other designers
01:05because I've never actually even met a fashion designer
01:07that's young like me.
01:08And it finally hits me.
01:10We are on Project Runway Junior.
01:11This is happening.
01:13Oh, there's someone else.
01:15Oh, yes, ma'am.
01:16She looks fabulous.
01:17I'm so excited to be in New York.
01:19Minnesota is okay, but it's boring.
01:22You look so good.
01:25This is incredible.
01:26Hi.
01:27I want to see all the other designers and how they dress
01:29and what their style is, but I think I'm unique, hardcore.
01:33I love your shoes.
01:34I love your eyebrows.
01:35Is that like part of your culture?
01:37No.
01:38Sometimes people get confused by the Muslim headscarf that I wear,
01:42but fashion means you can be who you want to be
01:45no matter what anyone says.
01:47Oh, I'm like all over the place.
01:48I'm happy.
01:49I'm excited.
01:50I'm nervous.
01:51Nice to meet you.
01:52I'm Lucas.
01:53I'm Chris.
01:54I'm 17 years old and I'm from Long Island, New York.
01:57Being here feels almost unreal.
01:59This is my first thing fashion related
02:01outside of sewing in my bedroom.
02:03Hi.
02:04I'm best at pairing odd fabrics
02:06and color combinations and prints and textures.
02:09I want to make wearable art.
02:10I'm Chris.
02:11Nice thumb ring.
02:12I'm like so crazy nervous
02:13because, you know, Hannah and Sam are going to like
02:15pop out of like the water fountain or something.
02:16It's like surreal.
02:20I'm from Fort Collins, Colorado.
02:22It's a pretty small town.
02:23Definitely not a huge fashion area.
02:26I also like to utilize the internet and YouTube.
02:29Being in New York, it's just like, is this real life right now?
02:32I think living in Colorado has influenced my designs
02:35to add a little bit of bohemian to the edginess.
02:38Molly.
02:39I like your pants, Molly.
02:41I like your outfits.
02:43Beige fantasy.
02:44Fun.
02:45Yeah.
02:46I feel like I found my people, guys.
02:47Yeah.
02:48Yeah.
02:50Hannah.
02:52Off we go.
02:54Oh, my God.
02:55Oh, my God.
02:56Oh, my God.
02:57Oh, my God.
02:58Oh, my God.
02:59Oh, my God.
03:00Oh, my God.
03:01Oh, my God.
03:02Oh, my God.
03:03Oh, my God.
03:04Oh, my God.
03:05Can I hug you?
03:06I would like to be Tim Gunn's daughter.
03:08I don't know if he's up for adoption,
03:10but I'm pretty sure I am.
03:12Oh, my God.
03:14So cool.
03:15Like, I'm about to like faint.
03:17Hi, everyone.
03:18Hi.
03:19Oh.
03:20Aw.
03:21I'm crying.
03:22Tim is my hero.
03:23It's just like the coolest thing to meet him.
03:25Hello, designers.
03:26Hi, everyone.
03:27Welcome to Project Runway Junior.
03:29Hannah is absolutely gorgeous.
03:31Just seeing her, like, perfection, like,
03:33that's what I aspire to be.
03:35How's everyone doing?
03:36Good.
03:37Designers, Hannah and I are so thrilled
03:40to be standing here with all of you.
03:42You know, you are just teenagers,
03:44and you are already here on Project Runway.
03:46That's pretty amazing.
03:47So are you guys ready to hear about your first challenge?
03:49Yeah?
03:50You're already starting a challenge.
03:52Oh, my gosh.
03:53What is she going to tell us?
03:55Designers, for your very first challenge,
03:57we want to see your point of view as a designer.
03:59This is a first impressions challenge.
04:02We're here in the epicenter of New York City,
04:05and New York City is the epicenter of fashion.
04:07So with that in mind, we want to see your epicenter.
04:11You're going to have 30 minutes here to sketch.
04:14Your inspiration can be this fabulous Central Park.
04:17It can be the energy of New York City.
04:19It's your choice, and it should be evident in your look.
04:22Now, next time I see you,
04:24it will be for your very first runway show.
04:26I just know that you're going to exceed all of our expectations,
04:29but you never get a second chance to make a first impression.
04:32So make this count.
04:34All right.
04:35Your sketching time starts right now.
04:38Right now, all right?
04:39And they're off.
04:40Yes!
04:45I feel so lucky that I am one of 12 designers to be chosen,
04:49because I've always been different from kids in my town.
04:52I sing, I do theater, but my whole entire family
04:56is so supportive of me wanting to be a fashion designer.
04:59I'm inspired by this purple flower.
05:02I want to make a purple skirt top
05:05with a kind of macrame weave thing in the back.
05:11I haven't experienced the real Project Runway Junior pressure yet,
05:14but I've had a lot of experience with pressure.
05:18I mean, I've participated in Omaha, Kansas City, Vancouver Fashion Week.
05:21There are deadlines you have to meet.
05:23So I feel like knowing that will definitely help me out in the competition.
05:27As I'm looking around, I see a little area below the stairs where it's dark,
05:31and it looks really mysterious.
05:33That's where I took my inspiration.
05:34I love anime, and I came up with this girl.
05:36She's on a mission because she's a spy.
05:38I love fashion because you can turn into different people.
05:41My parents are Asian, and they want me to be like a doctor or a lawyer,
05:44but fashion allows me to be anything.
05:46I, like, love what I do.
05:48What inspires me when I'm sketching in the middle of Central Park
05:51is just all the buildings upon buildings around it.
05:54I'm not used to that.
05:55I'm suburb Dallas, but my design aesthetic is bondage couture.
05:59I've always kind of loved to push the boundaries.
06:02I'm going to get some, like, shocked faces, and I'm ready for that.
06:05Designers, time is up, and I will meet you at Mood in the morning.
06:13All right, designers, you have a $200 budget,
06:15and your 45 minutes begins right now.
06:18And they are off.
06:24I've never had $200 to spend on fabric, so I'm really excited.
06:27Any other, like, black and white printed ones?
06:30There's a lot of people, like, looking at neoprene.
06:33I didn't see anyone use my print.
06:35I just have to make sure my designs are different from anyone else's.
06:39I'm trying to see what color combination to look good.
06:41That's why I'm pulling so many, so I'm not going to actually use all these.
06:44I've used neoprene a few times before, and I love it.
06:47I design for the girl that I want to be.
06:49She's traveled the world.
06:50She understands culture.
06:52I've actually traveled to a lot of places in the world
06:54because my mom's an artist.
06:56I was really inspired by the athletic vibe that Central Park gave me,
07:00all the people running around.
07:01I want to make a sort of athletic wear couture outfit.
07:04It's all neoprene, so I hope that gives it really good movement
07:07and a sportswear vibe.
07:08Oh, hey, Swatch.
07:10You want to help me, Swatch?
07:11So I'm making this ninja stealth coat dress,
07:14but it's not a coat dress, but it is.
07:17Can I get that?
07:18I work with a lot of see-through fabrics,
07:20and organza just happens to be, like, one of the stiffest ones to use.
07:24I have no idea if I'm going to regret it or not.
07:27I was looking for, like, a certain type of shirt,
07:30but I don't know if you have it,
07:31and then I was looking through everything,
07:32and then I think I just got lazy and stopped looking,
07:34but I think I'm going to go back and look,
07:36because I'm, like, like a seller worker
07:37to see if they know if they have any,
07:38so that's why, like, I got you,
07:39and, like, I'm telling you right now.
07:40A lot of people say you talk too fast,
07:41so a lot of people say I talk too slow at times,
07:43but I think I talk at a normal pace,
07:45kind of, like, circular-ish in a way.
07:47Circulous?
07:48Yeah, like, circular-ish.
07:50But, like, it's not lazy,
07:52but, like, it's not lazy.
07:55Like, it's not lazy, but, like, it could look like lazy,
07:59but, like, it's not lazy.
08:00Like, I'll be just talking and talking and talking and talking,
08:02and people, other people will be like,
08:04okay, I don't really care anymore.
08:06I'll be like, oh, okay.
08:07If not, then I'm going to go look like my other plan B.
08:10Like, I'll just, like, make it myself, you know?
08:12I was inspired by the city skyline.
08:15I found this really cool mesh fabric
08:17that's, like, green and black, like an abstract skyline.
08:20I'm using this bright, almost ugly green.
08:23I like to shock people.
08:24It makes me happy.
08:25It's fun.
08:26All right, designers, time is up.
08:30Let's head back to the workroom, everyone.
08:32Thank you, Mood.
08:38Crazy.
08:39Oh, my God.
08:40Oh, my God.
08:41Walking into the workroom for the first time was incredible.
08:44It's so pristine.
08:46That's kind of where all the magic happens.
08:48Oh, look, there are our photos.
08:49Woo!
08:50Woo!
08:51Where are the cool chaos?
08:52I know I don't like that one.
08:53Just have sesame balls.
08:54I want all of this.
08:56Okay.
08:57All of this.
08:58Oh.
08:59Yes.
09:00Oh, the sewing room.
09:01Hello.
09:02Oh, these are nice.
09:03Oh, my God.
09:04That's mine.
09:05Mine.
09:06I want that one.
09:07This is, like, the coolest thing ever.
09:09Yay.
09:10I love this.
09:13I want all of us to thank our dear friends at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.
09:20We're thrilled to have them working with us again.
09:22And I know you'll take advantage of the Brothers Sewing and Embroidery Studio.
09:26You will be the first Project Runway designers to use Brothers' dream machine, embroidery machine.
09:33What a dream.
09:34How exciting is that?
09:35I will be back later today to check in with each of you.
09:38All right.
09:39See you later.
09:40Bye.
09:41Bye.
09:44Look at how much fabric.
09:45That is so exciting.
09:48However, don't put your stuff on my table or I'll fight you.
09:51Whatever.
09:52Oh, this is nice.
09:53My vision is an off-the-shoulder dress with some chiffon detailing underneath.
09:59The neoprene I got ended up being a little bit thicker than I wanted, so I'm kind of nervous about that
10:05because the shape of this dress is going to be key.
10:08I've got to play with the fabric.
10:10I am envisioning a jacket mixed with both kinds of mesh I got, like a kimono-style belted with like a tank top and pants.
10:18I don't know exactly what's happening, but something's happening.
10:20Over here?
10:21Yeah.
10:22No.
10:23Are you shading my designs already?
10:24No.
10:25Too soon for that.
10:26Too soon.
10:27I am very much comfortable with competing.
10:28I played football for about five years and I was pretty good, actually.
10:32I decided to stop the pursuit of like all-American boy to like pursue art and go to my performance art high school.
10:39I think this is going to be the front and like this stuff's going to go over it.
10:42Just make sure it's not too busy.
10:43Oh, yeah.
10:44No, that's not being busy.
10:45It's supposed to hurt your eyes.
10:47Chris is basically my soul sister.
10:49Like we're both into shocking people, but some of the stuff is just a little too extra, if you will.
10:54And I think the judges will critique him on that.
10:57Maybe I should do my pant first since I've never done pants.
11:00I've never like cut pants on my own.
11:02I've read about it.
11:03If I can't do pants here, like I might as well go home because like I need to do pants to do separates.
11:08Like I'm not going to send out a skirt every week.
11:10How's it going?
11:11How's it going?
11:12Um, I don't know.
11:14I think Chris is taking a big risk considering the challenge was show what you know how to do and what you're used to.
11:19Ugh.
11:21I'm definitely surprised that Chris is doing pants for the first time here.
11:24That's a really bad idea.
11:28Coming up.
11:29Oh, good heavens.
11:30Keep talking.
11:31I like to call it like bondage couture.
11:33You're seeing me.
11:35It's caught me off guard.
11:36That worries me.
11:37You have a weird and wonderful mind.
11:40I don't think so.
11:41They're fully uneven, which is driving me insane.
11:43Don't apologize.
11:44The challenge is to take inspiration from New York City and create something that shows your point of view.
12:00Cartier, do you have a seam gauge by any chance?
12:03I have two.
12:04Do you think there's one?
12:05Yeah.
12:06Celeste.
12:07I'm not a petty competitive person, but I definitely feel like Tyler and Molly are competition to me.
12:13You can kind of tell by their seriousness.
12:16Oh.
12:17Yes, ma'am.
12:18I pick up on like a lot of people's vibes.
12:20I know that Cartier and Molly are here to fight, and I'm like, I'm down.
12:25That looks pretty.
12:26Can you come help me?
12:27Making a retro pencil dress that has square cutouts on it.
12:32I take my inspiration from vintage and retro things because I think that they're so sophisticated,
12:37and I love how back then people were more modest with their clothing.
12:41Oh, that's so pretty.
12:42I need to do the back.
12:43I decided to change my top from denim to black and white print fabric, and in the back of the shirt I put a crisscross pattern.
12:51It's just going to be really simple.
12:52Okay.
12:53I feel like I'm in a really good spot.
12:55I want to add something because I think I can make it better, so I decided to make a jacket.
13:00I definitely want to do more black piping.
13:02Izzy, her design, I mean normally I wouldn't do it because it's so out there, but it's something I would definitely wear myself,
13:08and anybody wants to feel like a cotton candy unicorn princess.
13:11Can I be your model, Izzy? I really want to wear that.
13:13Oh, do you actually?
13:14No, I actually really want to wear that.
13:15Oh, so sweet.
13:16Hi, Tim.
13:17Hi.
13:18Hey.
13:19It's our first critique together.
13:21I'm excited.
13:22Chris, you're working away.
13:23Hi, Tim.
13:24Who are you as a designer?
13:25I'm all about color and texture and print.
13:28You certainly are.
13:29So what else are you doing?
13:30I'm going to make this into a pant.
13:32Okay.
13:33I've never made pants on my own before.
13:34You've never made pants?
13:35I've made pants just store-bought patterns.
13:38Let me ask you a question.
13:41Okay.
13:42It's our first challenge.
13:44Are you worried about the fact that you've never made a pair of pants?
13:47No.
13:48Without a pattern?
13:49No.
13:50I am actually not nervous about the pants.
13:51I know I should be.
13:52I know everyone else is probably worried for me, but, like, I don't know.
13:56Why worry about it?
13:57I'm just going to, like, do it.
13:59Own it.
14:00Okay.
14:01Thank you, Chris.
14:02Thank you, Tim.
14:03Talk to me about this.
14:04Okay, um, I got inspired by the lilies in the fountain with all the flowers.
14:10You're scaring me.
14:13No, I'm looking at them.
14:14Oh, okay.
14:15Okay.
14:16How about more of these?
14:17Layering them.
14:18Like having them stacked up?
14:20The more of these, the better.
14:21Just go for it.
14:22Let's go for it.
14:23Okay.
14:24How are you today?
14:25I'm excellent.
14:26What was your inspiration for this?
14:27Um, we're in Central Park.
14:28There's obviously, like, a ton of people exercising.
14:30But also, they have really important places to go after they're done working out.
14:33So I just thought sort of an athletic wear, fancy outfit.
14:36So an athleisure evening gown?
14:38Yes.
14:39Good heavens.
14:40I have to tell you, there's so much happening in the skirt with the color blocking.
14:43Don't overdesign.
14:44Don't overdesign.
14:45Don't overdesign.
14:46You have enough going on.
14:47Okay.
14:48Renee.
14:49Hi, Dad.
14:50How are you?
14:51Okay, so this is my design, and I like to call it, like, bondage couture.
14:55It kind of borders on the edge, like, is it okay or is it not okay?
14:59And that's kind of...
15:00I like things that are on the edge.
15:01You're in good shape, Renee.
15:02Thank you so much.
15:04This is the craziest moment of my life because Tim confirms that my fashion isn't trash.
15:09Hi, Molly.
15:10You've made a lot of progress.
15:12At first, like, my concern was, like, the drapeability of this neoprene.
15:15It kind of takes away from the shape.
15:18You've already cited one issue with the neoprene, which is that it's not exactly a friendly draper.
15:25Yeah, yeah.
15:26But, as I say, make it work.
15:28Molly's look I'm really impressed by.
15:31The prints go so well together, but I don't know how flattering it is.
15:36Carry on, Molly.
15:38Good.
15:40Hi, Ruby.
15:41Hi.
15:42Talk to me.
15:43I was inspired by a flower I saw in the fountain.
15:44It's water lilies, yeah.
15:45The bottom of the skirt is kind of layered, almost like the flower is growing, I guess.
15:49Ruby's is kind of like a Mormon skirt with, like, a not-matching tank top.
15:53For me, it looks as though it was too short, so you added a layer underneath it.
15:58You could add a panel between these two lengths.
16:01So there was three?
16:02Yeah.
16:03I feel a little stressed out about my look because I might not have enough fabric to do another ruffle.
16:08It's just kind of caught me off guard.
16:10Just think about it.
16:11Okay.
16:12Okay?
16:13Yeah.
16:14Chelsea, how are you?
16:15Hi, Tim.
16:16I'm good.
16:17Good.
16:18Can I hug you?
16:19Of course you can.
16:21Okay.
16:22Welcome.
16:23Okay, thank you.
16:24Okay, so it's going to be like this coat dress.
16:26I'm going kind of to, like, the dark side with this look because this is a power woman,
16:30and she's, like, stalking someone right now because she's in, like, ninja stealth mode.
16:34Good heavens.
16:35Keep talking.
16:36These pockets are, like, really small because it's, like, side sheer panels.
16:39What's it like in the back?
16:40I have no idea yet.
16:41I haven't figured out the back.
16:42What do you mean?
16:43This is how I work.
16:44It usually turns from, like, nothing, and then, like, the very last hours, it, like, becomes
16:48magical.
16:49That worries me.
16:53Oh.
16:54Chelsea doesn't have a lot done.
16:57I'm definitely worried for her because, like, there's a major possibility that she'll
17:00be going home.
17:01Okay, I'm scared now.
17:03I thought I was, like, pretty fast, but now I'm worried it won't work out the way I planned
17:08it to be.
17:09Here's my concern.
17:10Okay.
17:11Okay.
17:12If the focus of the construction details is on these side panels only, is that enough?
17:21Just something for you to consider.
17:23Okay.
17:24Go, go, go.
17:26All right, designers.
17:27Your models will be in very soon.
17:31A word about tomorrow?
17:32The hair and makeup rotation is an hour, so you will not have a lot of time in here.
17:37We will leave an hour tomorrow to work?
17:39For the runway?
17:40Like, apparently.
17:41Holly!
17:42I will see you in the morning, everyone.
17:47Bye.
17:48Bye.
17:49Everyone's, like, almost done with their looks, and I'm barely, like, halfway.
17:56Chelsea seems to be a chaotic worker, and I'm a little worried that she's not going to finish
18:00in time for the runway.
18:02I'm speechless.
18:03It's like, what are you doing, girl?
18:05You're talented.
18:06Get it together.
18:08Coming up.
18:09The back is so off.
18:11Blech.
18:12I just don't know how she's going to get her girl in and out of it.
18:15It's our first runway show.
18:16I'm mad as hell.
18:17This is like The Hunger Games and I'm about to be killed.
18:26I don't know.
18:27It's the end of the day.
18:28We only have an hour tomorrow, so I'm super scared at this point.
18:31Does anyone have, like, a filled bobbin?
18:33No.
18:34Tim just wanted me to add the layer at the bottom and just sew it to one of the existing ruffles.
18:40I have enough fabric to do another ruffle.
18:42It's going to make a good first impression on the judges.
18:44Hi.
18:45Hi.
18:46Hi.
18:47Hi.
18:48It was going to be a slit in the back, but now it's going to be two slits on each side.
18:51You're going to be a ninja triple agent spy stalking someone.
18:55I want to see how it flows.
18:57Oh, that looks great.
18:58Pretty people make me nervous.
18:59I'm like a potato.
19:00Oh my gosh, the back looks so good.
19:03The model looks like a princess.
19:04She looks like a cascading waterfall from heaven.
19:07Okay.
19:08Perfect.
19:09Renee, instead of, like, closing up his clothes,
19:11he puts these little straps on the side.
19:14It's kind of scandalous.
19:15It's asymmetrical with, um, a cool neckline detailing.
19:18This look is very daring because of the neckline.
19:22I don't think it's something you'll see a lot.
19:24And I think that's what the judges will be looking for.
19:26I just need to sew the zipper.
19:27I just have to make the skirt a little tighter, and I'm good to go.
19:31This fits pretty well.
19:32I am pleasantly surprised.
19:34The back is so off.
19:35The pants don't fit.
19:37I'm like, she's like half naked on the side.
19:39Her hip is a little bit bigger than I had planned.
19:41I think I need to make the back bigger.
19:43Wait, something's wrong.
19:44It just worked.
19:45You can't do this to me, Sleeve.
19:47I made you.
19:49I will see you tomorrow with everything done.
19:51See you tomorrow.
19:52All right, time to go sew these.
19:54Oh my gosh, no!
19:56I start sewing the vinyl and the piping together,
19:59and I realize how hard it actually is.
20:01Oh.
20:03This is gonna be like trying to catch Pokemon without a Pokeball.
20:06My construction's like really bad right now.
20:08Really?
20:09No!
20:10My workmanship right now is going down the drain.
20:13Really?
20:14Yeah.
20:15I have the exact opposite problem.
20:16The work looks really good, but I don't know if the design's gonna get down.
20:19Ew, ew, it's so bleh.
20:21I'm like gagging on how nasty it looks.
20:23So I'm making the stretch woven pants,
20:25and I made them too big now.
20:27I only added another inch, and it's looking like parachute pants.
20:31I can't stand this.
20:32Hey guys, it's time.
20:34Boo!
20:35Time is up.
20:36I'm on the verge of like crying because my pants aren't done.
20:39I'm mad as hell.
20:40I'm mad as hell.
20:41A wave of despair just came over me.
20:50Welcome to the Butter London makeup room.
20:52It's kind of a sun-kissed pinky cheek.
20:55Beautiful, pretty daytime girl.
20:57It's a gorgeous pink.
20:59A little lilac on the eye.
21:01And then a gorgeous nude lip.
21:02Wow.
21:07You dropped it.
21:08This morning waking up, I remember because like my first runway show in like, like ever.
21:13Thanks for almost picking it up, Kelsey.
21:14My jacket has no arms, and I don't want a vest.
21:17Like this isn't Ellen DeGeneres show, no.
21:20And my jacket's long, so I decided just to chop it.
21:23Chris, what if we both like screw everything up?
21:25Ha ha ha.
21:26No, I'm serious.
21:27What did you say?
21:28I didn't even listen.
21:29I'm not in a chatty mood right now.
21:31First thing I do, I run in, grab my pants head into the sewing room, and I sew what I pinned yesterday.
21:35Put it back on the mannequin, decided that I have no time to cut a whole new pant.
21:39I'm just gonna deal with the new shape of the pant.
21:42I don't think these look bad fitted.
21:44Like I was really upset that this was gonna be a fitted pant, but like I'm feeling it now.
21:48Chris pulled that out of nowhere.
21:50The pants fit like a jogger, but I'm like, oh my god, like he really does have this.
21:53Good morning.
21:54Good morning.
21:55It's our first runway show.
21:57Yay!
21:58I'm nervous.
21:59Well, Chelsea, you should be, everyone should be a little terrified.
22:02Just a little bit.
22:03I'm nervous too.
22:04All right, Just Fab has provided you with accessories.
22:07We'll be working with the Just Fab accessories all season.
22:10Using your direction, your models have been to the Butter London Beauty Studio for their makeup.
22:15And we thank Sally Beauty for the products.
22:17All right.
22:18So, your models will be in soon.
22:20Once they're here, you will have 30 minutes to prep them for the runway.
22:24Okay, work hard.
22:26Bye, Tim.
22:27I've sewn an entire zipper on, but I keep messing up on which way it goes.
22:34Ruby let me borrow an invisible zipper, and for some reason, I just kept sewing it the wrong way.
22:38I don't have time to change it back.
22:40Whatever.
22:41I'm sorry.
22:42There's the models.
22:43I'm just sewing in the zipper, and then irony, we're good.
22:48It won't zip up.
22:49The zipper's not sewing the way I want it to, so I'm going to cut it all out.
22:53I'm sewing her in.
22:54I have to.
22:55I can't waste any more time on this.
22:56I think I might want to do the orange trim at the bottom to make them a little longer.
23:02Let me, um, cut a piece and just pin it on you.
23:05Hmm.
23:06I think I like that better.
23:08I could totally win this challenge.
23:10I could not produce a look that was more me.
23:13Yeah, I think it's good.
23:18I am very excited.
23:20I've been waiting for this moment for a long time.
23:23A real fashion show.
23:25This is so exciting.
23:26I know.
23:27We're dorks.
23:28We've never left our bedrooms before.
23:30Better one.
23:31Better one.
23:32So, Chelsea's design, I just don't know how she's going to get her girl in and out of it.
23:36It's not the best feeling to know that everyone else is done, and you kind of have to, like,
23:40rush to make sure it's finished.
23:41It's a make it work moment.
23:43Now I just have to sew her into it.
23:46Designers and models, let's go down to the runway, everyone.
23:50It's time.
23:51Yeah!
23:52All right.
23:53Here we go.
23:54I want to like Molly's look.
23:56It has movement, but I think Molly could be in trouble.
23:59And who's behind the screen?
24:01Chelsea.
24:02Oh, Chelsea.
24:03Go, go, go.
24:04Okay.
24:05I thought I would be super excited for my first runway.
24:09Now I'm just terrified.
24:11This is like the Hunger Games and I'm about to be killed.
24:14Let's run out with one boudon, one off.
24:17There you go.
24:19Hello, guys.
24:20Hi.
24:21Welcome to the runway.
24:24As you know from watching Project Runway, in fashion, one day you're in and the next day you're out.
24:42The winner of Project Runway Junior will receive a full scholarship to the prestigious FIDM in California, a complete home sewing and crafting studio, plus the dream machine, all courtesy of Brother.
24:55And styles from their finale collection will be manufactured by Los Angeles Development House, Lefty Production Company, and Butter London will supply a year's worth of products and the opportunity to consult with Butter London to create a limited edition nail color collection.
25:12Nail?
25:13And a feature in Seventeen Magazine, $25,000 cash prize to help launch your line.
25:20Yes.
25:21I cannot believe I'm competing for such amazing prizes.
25:23My own sewing room.
25:24That's so cool.
25:26Okay.
25:27Let's meet the judges.
25:28First, we have CFDA designer, Christian Siriano.
25:31Hello.
25:32Christian has been right here where you guys are right now.
25:35And it worked out pretty well for him.
25:37Fashion critic and designer herself, Kelly Osborne.
25:39Hi, designers.
25:40And fashion director for Cosmopolitan and Seventeen Magazine, Aya Kanai.
25:45Hi, guys.
25:46We have a very high standard to meet here.
25:48Also, we have Tim Gunn here for the Runway Show.
25:51Now, Tim won't be judging your looks, but he does have one Tim Gunn save.
25:55That means if at some point during the competition he disagrees with us, he can bring that eliminated designer back into the competition.
26:03Okay.
26:04This was a first impressions challenge.
26:06You were to create a look that showed us your personal design style.
26:10Okay.
26:11It's time for the show.
26:12Yes.
26:20I'm feeling good.
26:21Like, she's working it.
26:25And it actually looks so much better on the runway than it did up close to me.
26:29And I'm really loving it.
26:30I love the front.
26:31I love the back.
26:32I love everything.
26:37My design looks perfect.
26:39I can totally see my aesthetic come out of this design.
26:42My inspiration and my outfit with the building from Park Avenue.
26:46I'm so happy about it.
26:48My dress turned out very well.
26:49I feel very confident.
26:50Like, she looks great.
26:51She has that, like, staff to it.
26:52I think she looks amazing.
26:53My original vision kind of comes through.
26:54But I kind of wish I had this, like, a redo, because I know I would do much better.
26:59I'm just so excited to see my model walk down the runway.
27:00I think she looks so incredibly good.
27:01I love it.
27:02The only thing that I'm looking at are the tiny little mistakes that I made.
27:06But I think that the design as a whole comes across really well to the judges.
27:07I'm in love with it.
27:08I want to win.
27:09I like my look a lot.
27:10I think it's the best.
27:11It stands out the most.
27:12I could not be more happy with how everything looks.
27:13It flows in the back.
27:14You can see the prints.
27:15I'm just so excited to see my model walk down the runway.
27:17I think she looks so incredibly good.
27:18I love it.
27:19The only thing that I'm looking at are the tiny little mistakes that I made.
27:23But I think that the design as a whole comes across really well to the judges.
27:27I'm in love with it.
27:31I want to win.
27:32I like my look a lot.
27:33I think it's the best.
27:34It stands out the most.
27:35I could not be more happy with how everything looks.
27:40It flows in the back.
27:41You can see the print through the mesh.
27:43I love it.
27:47I'm feeling absolutely incredible.
27:50This look really encompasses all the things that I think make me mean.
27:58I'm feeling super great right now.
28:00My model's pulling it off.
28:01Nothing bad is happening.
28:03This look really represents me as a designer to the T.
28:07I think they're pretty wowed by my look.
28:09My style's kind of flowy, classic-y, but with like a retro vibe.
28:16It's what I love.
28:17It just fits the model perfectly and it flows great.
28:23And I'm just so proud of myself.
28:25I just don't think it's coming out how I intended.
28:30The pleated look is a little heavy, especially with the neoprene.
28:34I'm very, very happy about my garment.
28:41I realized this look absolutely represents me as a designer.
28:47Just kind of like the edginess.
28:48Designers, I just have to say this was an amazing runway show.
28:55I was really impressed by the level of sophistication.
28:59This first challenge gives us a window into who you are.
29:02I thought some of the pieces were pretty astounding.
29:04It's episode one and you guys are blowing my mind already and I cannot wait to watch you grow.
29:09This is going to be so much fun.
29:12Will the following designers please step forward?
29:15Izzy.
29:16Chris.
29:17Ruby.
29:18Renee.
29:19Molly.
29:20Chelsea.
29:21If I did not call your name, congratulations.
29:22You're safe.
29:23You can leave the runway.
29:36That's like a weight lifted off my shape.
29:42I'm so happy and safe.
29:46We're safe.
29:47We're good.
29:48Yeah.
29:49The six of you have the highest and the lowest scores.
29:55One of you will be the winner of this challenge and one of you will unfortunately be out.
30:04Because you are all so extremely talented, we feel like we owe it to you to be straightforward and honest and maybe sometimes tough.
30:19But we want to help you evolve as designers.
30:32Chelsea.
30:33Tell us about your inspiration and your look.
30:34So I picture this girl, she's a triple agent spy assassin person.
30:37I like working with dimensions, so I wanted to do organza and green vinyl.
30:40I have three layered pockets.
30:41Because I have sheer panels, I don't want you seeing the underwear.
30:42I love that neon on the black.
30:43I totally get your ninja vibe.
30:44It's badass.
30:45I'm loving it.
30:46My only thing is I can't stand a center scene because it does nothing for the female body.
30:50Oh.
30:51Can I do that?
30:52Can I do that?
30:53I do that?
30:54I do that.
30:55I do that.
30:56I do that.
30:57I do that.
30:58I do that.
30:59I do that.
31:00I do that.
31:01I do that.
31:02I do that.
31:03I do that.
31:04I do that.
31:05I do that.
31:06I do that.
31:07I do that.
31:08I do that.
31:09I do that.
31:10I do that.
31:11I do that.
31:12I do that.
31:13I do that.
31:14I do that.
31:15I do that.
31:16I do that.
31:17I do that.
31:18I do that.
31:19Oh, can I also say one more thing?
31:21I can tell it's like not my best technical maid piece, especially this kind of sewing
31:24in the front.
31:25I just want to tell you guys that.
31:26Chelsea, as women we often want to apologize before there's anything to apologize for.
31:28And so when you're describing your look and you apologize for something that we haven't
31:32or no one has commented on you were selected because of your incredible
31:36talent don't apologize okay back to your look I love this science fiction idea
31:43that you came up with I think that the reflective tape is super cool I haven't
31:48really seen a sleeve like that before and I think that that's really special
31:51here but they're fully uneven which is driving me insane so one is so much
31:56higher than the other I just realized that actually if that technical side of
32:00it is perfect you'll be one to reckon with for sure okay thank you Izzy tell me
32:06about your look so when we were in Central Park there was a lot of athletes
32:10like a lot of runners so I just thought of making a really interesting two-piece
32:14gown athleisure couture sort of and it's using this athletic wear sort of neoprene
32:20and it has a racer back too which is in athletic wear I think of a girl that's
32:24really outgoing and fun-loving and I think the colors really represent that also
32:28if you're wondering I'm wearing a plant on my head and it's really weird I was
32:32gonna ask you so I'm glad you said something
32:34it's a clover it's like a little sprout coming out of my head it's just like a
32:38fun trend that's happening in China right now genius I love the idea of athleisure
32:42couture it's so hilarious I love the gathered effect this extra layer of the
32:47pink in the back added this sweetness and this femininity to the sporty look you
32:53truly nailed what the concept was on the runway it was breathtaking the razorback
32:59is something that I find incredibly sexy and you've managed to pull it off in a
33:04couture way that I don't really think I've ever seen such great elements to
33:08this slits are hard to do they can go super vulgar and I think that they're
33:13perfect I think you did a really really fantastic job thank you so much Chris so
33:17I use like colors I associate with the city and a lot of textiles I do like the
33:21sporty mesh in the jacket and this print on the mesh that kind of looked like
33:25abstract in New York skyline I like to use a lot of colors that come together
33:29when you wouldn't think they would yeah that's your thing for sure I'm just not
33:33100% sure if in this instant they worked um do you want to turn for me if the
33:39pant was a little bit wider I think you wouldn't have gotten into this kind of
33:42almost like costume realm I like that I feel like you know who you are as a
33:47designer when everything has emphasis nothing has emphasis so all together it
33:54kind of doesn't totally drive you have a weird and wonderful mind but I do think
33:59that you should follow the rule of do I need to take one thing off that's gonna
34:02do you a lot of favors thank you Renee my inspiration would have to be the
34:07skyline of New York my design style really is kind of positive negative space
34:10well I call it bondage couture I love this look my only little critique is the top I
34:16would have it a little cleaner Renee I am so so impressed your understanding of
34:21the female form is incredible for somebody of your age thank you I do
34:25however agree with Hannah about the top I think that you should have made it a
34:28solid black panel in between and you wouldn't have the bust issues I think
34:33this is amazing I think without the jacket it would be kind of vulgar but
34:36because of that piece it's not vulgar at all it really really works it speaks to a
34:41story of who you are but also your experience of New York and the
34:45powerful women that are here and so I love that thank you so much Ruby tell
34:50us about your look I like to kind of mix bohemian with a little bit of edge to it
34:54and in Central Park I saw this water lily and I wanted to create a skirt that had
35:00layers so it was almost like the flower was growing the skirt is more bohemian and
35:05the top has more of an edge to it the skirt should have been maybe three
35:09inches shorter so that you could really see the laid effect because I didn't
35:13really notice it I know you have more in you to give don't be frightened to take
35:18risks okay for me the color combination could be more exciting my biggest
35:23concern was that it is safe I just want a little bit more Wow thank you Ruby
35:28Molly I design edgy streetwear but also incorporate bohemian elements that's what I
35:34was really trying to show you in my first impression it kind of seemed a
35:37little bit unfinished to me and I also think there is a bit too much fabric in
35:42the dress in my world it's the choice of the fabric you know I hate to use the
35:45word frumpy but it has that feel in a way there's this boho vibe I get from this
35:50but I think with the boho girl by this dress I don't think so okay designers we've
35:58enjoyed talking with you we're gonna take a closer look at your designs discuss
36:02amongst ourselves and we will bring you back to the runway thank you wait who's
36:11on the top of who's on the bottom tell me Renee and Chelsea on the top and Ruby
36:15Molly Chris are on the bottom I thought me Molly were the contenders to win and now
36:20we're contenders to go the hell home so it's I'm beyond annoyed and I don't want
36:24to talk anymore would you like to start with Ruby I don't get the point of view yeah seeing
36:34it up close it's a little rough it doesn't work together for me it's quite mature for
36:38somebody who's 14 Chris that is sound crazy frankly looks cheap I don't necessarily think
36:46the mesh fabric was the right choice of fabric yeah is you didn't really truly get to see the
36:51illusion of the city skyline that he was trying to create listening to Chris I was like I'm glad
36:58that you are 100% on board with this I'm not
37:01Molly the fabric is super heavy I don't know why she picked a neoprene to I don't understand
37:08either if she's going for boho neoprene is just the wrong yeah and I really wish she would have
37:14continued the pleather into the sleeves yeah or the print all over Renee it is a sexy look see at
37:23the front if it was a solid black panel you wouldn't get the pulling underneath here oh and this is
37:27elastic yeah that's so interesting and we have Izzy I like this I really like so fun her placement
37:36was really smart Hannah would wear this every day I definitely would cuz it's a crop top yeah I love
37:43how the whole look comes together Chelsea I just find it so interesting I really do the softness of
