00:00Yesterday, Catherine Hickman set the Browns fan base ablaze, and not just over the fashion choice.
00:09That's coming up at 6.43.
00:11Everybody wants us to address the elephant in the room, and we will address the elephant in the room.
00:16But you know what? We've got to get different eyes on it as well,
00:19because you can't just have three dudes in here talking about women's fashion.
00:22So we're going to bring Meredith in, because Meredith had some spicy comments.
00:26But there was the question, and she was asked about the quarterback situation,
00:33and whether or not that there were any trade offers.
00:36Here's the question and Catherine's answer.
00:38Did the Browns receive any trade offers for a quarterback?
00:45Not that I will comment on.
00:50Which immediately everybody went, oh, hello.
00:53And then several questions later, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven questions later, I believe.
01:07Then she wasn't really asked about it again.
01:10No.
01:10She just kind of switched in the middle of an answer on another.
01:14I don't even know what she was answering.
01:16She was answering a question.
01:19She was asked a question.
01:20This is Catherine Hickman, who is the assistant general manager of the Cleveland Browns,
01:23one of the two, her and Glenn Cook.
01:25And the question was, you did bring back Cole Wilson, who's only five, seven.
01:30Every other receiver out of the practice squad has been over six feet.
01:34Is that a coach's preference?
01:37And part of this answer...
01:39No, I don't have any part of that, because I don't care about the wide receivers.
01:44Well, Cole Wilson, hey, you will care about Cole Wilson.
01:47No, the wide receiver room is okay.
01:49You might not care about Cole Wilson.
01:51Gloria will be back by then.
01:52Yeah.
01:53And so, in the middle of the answer, we got this.
01:58To the question you asked me earlier that I kind of paused, I just want to revisit specifically my answer.
02:04The reason I didn't answer on the trade component thing is that would be like an Andrew question.
02:08If there was offers or if he had discussed some of them, that wouldn't be something that I would comment
02:13on at this point.
02:14So, I just want to make sure that I clarify that.
02:17Well, then we don't have to ask any further.
02:19That cleared everything up now, didn't it?
02:21I never understand.
02:22I know that, obviously, they operate in this veil of secrecy all the time.
02:29But, if you drafted a player, right?
02:32Whether or not you want the player to stay on the team or don't want the player to stay on
02:37the team, I would make it sound like we're getting offers all the time.
02:40Like, yeah, we draft good players.
02:43A lot of teams around the league salivated the chance of stealing one of our good players that we have
02:49invested in and developed.
02:50Like, yeah, guys, I couldn't get off the phone yesterday.
02:53We got so many offers.
02:55No, you did.
02:56Third round pick, fifth round pick.
02:58We're getting offers for all of them.
02:59I don't even have time to talk to all these teams.
03:01You can't do that because if you go out there and you don't play well, people are going to go,
03:04why aren't you trading these players?
03:05I think that's the thing.
03:07You know neither of them are going to play right away.
03:09So, yeah, we get offers all the time.
03:11It's no big deal to get offers.
03:13Who would they get offers for?
03:14Well, so this is what's really interesting.
03:16He ain't Deshaun Watson.
03:17No, we can rule out Deshaun Watson, right?
03:20Mark him off the thing.
03:21You've got three other guys.
03:23Talon Green is a six-round pick that just, you know, showed he could run the football a little bit.
03:29No, you're not getting offers for that.
03:31Nobody's giving up anything as substance.
03:33Everybody's got their own projects they're working on.
03:35Nobody has time, especially without a real training camp.
03:38So I don't think you're getting offers for Talon Green.
03:40So it just boils down to Dylan Gabriel and Shador Sanders.
03:45Well, Dylan Gabriel supposedly is injured.
03:48So, would he be able to pass a physical?
03:51Would you be worried?
03:52Could Dylan Gabriel pass a physical right now?
03:55Or was the offer good enough?
03:58Guys do get traded.
04:00Nobody's really banged up.
04:01People are going in.
04:02Like, okay, there's certain situations.
04:04Like, maybe down in Atlanta, would he start the season?
04:10Who's their...
04:11Is it Tua still starting?
04:12Tua's starting for them, right?
04:14Is it Tua?
04:15They haven't announced it yet.
04:16They haven't announced it yet?
04:17Because they're waiting on...
04:19To figure out whether or not guys are going to be healthy.
04:22Okay, well, Tua's banged up all the time, and so is Michael Penix Jr.
04:25He's banged up all the time.
04:26Then you have, what, Jack Spratt, who could you know fat?
04:29What's his name?
04:29Jack Strand.
04:30Jack Strand.
04:31Thank you very much.
04:32You got Jack Strand.
04:33Oh, Kevin, jeez, what are you doing down there, man?
04:36Lord almighty, why did you have to take that job of all things?
04:39Jack Strand's the fourth quarterback on the house.
04:41Who's the third quarterback?
04:42Cooper Rush.
04:43Cooper Rush.
04:44He's played NFL games.
04:46So Atlanta must have called about Dylan, right?
04:50I don't know.
04:51I don't know.
04:52I don't know that that's the case either.
04:55What's weird about this is people just assume starting quarterback.
05:00You'd be calling for starting quarterbacks.
05:02There are some teams that are very thin when it comes to backup.
05:04Oh, clearly.
05:05And so I could understand if somebody would look at Dylan Gabriel as a potential backup.
05:11And that's part of it.
05:12And not necessarily, like I know people would go, well, Shador's better than Dylan.
05:17And I believe that most every team probably believes that.
05:20And I believe that to be the case, that Shador's better than Dylan.
05:23But would you want to bring in Shador to be a backup?
05:26And does Shador have a lot of interest being a backup quarterback where that's a defined role?
05:31Well, here in Cleveland, the whole thing with Shador is he has a chance to start.
05:35To start and be the starting quarterback.
05:37Like for Dylan.
05:38Like five years from now, could you see Shador as a backup quarterback?
05:41Or could you see Dylan Gabriel as a backup quarterback?
05:44I could see Dylan Gabriel as a backup quarterback.
05:45I just don't think Shador would have a lot of interest.
05:47I don't know him personally.
05:49But if that's his lot in life, I would think he'd want to go pursue other things.
05:53It's such a bizarre set of circumstances for this season.
05:57Because I could look at things and go, all right, who could have the longer career?
06:01Shador Sanders or Dylan Gabriel?
06:03Dylan Gabriel could have the longer career.
06:04Okay, who could start more games over their careers?
06:07Whether one's shorter or one's longer.
06:08And I'm going, I'd pick, exactly, I'd pick Shador to start more games.
06:12People are probably hearing that going, well, that's crazy because backups become starters.
06:15Not necessarily.
06:16Yeah, but as you continue to draft quarterbacks and young guys, they're going to be prioritized
06:21over the backup to get a chance to start.
06:23Like Shador has a chance to start now.
06:25Yes.
06:26And next year, let's say maybe Shador is still the backup in Cleveland.
06:31And then they go through what the Raiders are going through with Mendoza.
06:36Maybe get another chance to start then.
06:38But I don't know that Shador, I mean, he'd have to play at such a level to still be in
06:42a team's plans a couple of years from now.
06:45He could start because I think it's a two-week thing and then we'll figure it back out when
06:50they come back home to take on the Panthers in week three.
06:53Shador could start.
06:56I'm looking at 15 games this year, seven last year.
06:59That's 22 games that seems to be like, all right, at the base.
07:03Might not end up being 22.
07:04We'll see.
07:04But like at 22, I don't see Dylan Gabriel starting 22 games over a 10-year.
07:0810 years is a long time.
07:10Maybe he gets to 22.
07:11But I don't think it's that.
07:13But still, you know, that's beside the point.
07:15Like who did they call on?
07:16Who did what team call on?
07:18Did they call on Shador?
07:21Because to me, like let's interpret this.
07:23When you say none that I could comment on and then seven questions later, you are answering
07:29a question that clearly is bothering you.
07:31You're air-checking yourself about your answer.
07:34I guarantee while she's giving answers on other things, she's sitting there going, uh-oh,
07:38that's not going to be taken the right way.
07:39I got to change this answer here.
07:41And then she threw that in there and then went, oh, okay, well, I guess we have to ask
07:44Andrew more questions about that or anything like that.
07:47So when Glenn Cook gets ready to talk, he'll have all his ducks in a row because he's going
07:51to be asked that question because it's like, well, none that you can comment on.
07:54None that you can comment on because you're an assistant GM.
07:57Okay.
07:58Well, this isn't your first press conference that you've ever had with the Cleveland media.
08:02You've been around for a few years now.
08:03So that leads people to believe what was going on then.
08:08What was said or what was called on, I should say.
08:11And you would think that who would they call on?
08:14Well, they'd probably call on Dylan Gabriel, wouldn't they?
08:17Because you need your starter.
08:19All right.
08:19Then you need your backup because you're starting too many quarterbacks in the NFL now.
08:23The only thing is I guess there'd have to be a frank conversation about the legitimacy
08:28of the injury because I know a lot of people were probably around the league going, oh,
08:31yeah, that was a way for them to get all four quarterbacks on.
08:34I think a lot of people around the league or around East 9th and around everywhere were
08:40probably wondering that.
08:41So my logic would be that you probably did get a call over Dylan Gabriel.
08:48I find, like you said, Deshaun Watson is a non-starter, cross him off the list.
08:55Shador Sanders is a possibility, but you're probably taking him and inserting him into
09:00a starting role.
09:01Well, what teams are ready to do that and insert him into a starting role?
09:05Okay.
09:05I brought up Atlanta for the Shador fans that are listening and they always are.
09:09Do they want him to be going down to Atlanta?
09:11Would Kevin want to invite that back in?
09:13I don't think, no.
09:14I think that that's a non-starter.
09:16Dylan Gabriel out of these.
09:18Talon Green was a six-round rookie.
09:20They're looking to hold on to him.
09:21No.
09:21So the most realistic one would be Dylan Gabriel.
09:26All right.
09:26So if someone called up and offered a conditional seven that you just saw what Dylan Gabriel did
09:30against twos with the twos, you're going, maybe I can hold out and get a six for him.
09:34Maybe I can hold out and get a fifth for him later on because guys are going to get hurt.
09:37And then you can go, if I can't get enough for him, he'll just be a backup for me if
09:41our guys get hurt.
09:43Because right now you have Talon Green as that third team quarterback.
09:45If Dylan, if Deshaun Watson gets hurt, then God forbid Shador Sanders gets hurt.
09:49And then I got Dylan Gabriel there.
09:50Well, at least I got somebody who knows where to line him up and we can get going here.
09:55So he, he become like Dylan Gabriel did make himself a bit of a commodity over training
10:02camp.
10:03Because I got all these young QBs who are going, listen to this.
10:06You got all these QBs going to all these different places in college.
10:09So they're learning different things at different places, but they're not really able to apply
10:13it when they get to the NFL.
10:14So there's a lot that's coming at them very, very quickly.
10:18Dylan Gabriel seems to be smart enough with the offense that he's able to get it right
10:21off the rip.
10:22Okay.
10:22Well, he becomes currency.
10:24That's Andrew Barry's words, not mine.
10:26Andrew Barry said QBs are currency, or you can go, Hey, the money's good in my pocket.
10:31We'll just use him with our team.
10:33If you really wanted to do it that way.
