00:00Mike Sando, who we've had on the show before, was talking about Miles Garrett.
00:04Where was he talking about this at?
00:06So this is in his piece in The Athletic where he basically wrapped up the owners' meetings
00:13and talked to a bunch of executives about every single team in football.
00:18So if you care what executives had to say about the Ravens, Bengals, thus far,
00:22you can go to that piece and give it a read.
00:24So this is what he had for the Cleveland Browns.
00:27He said the report of the option bonus date, talking about Miles Garrett again,
00:35the report of the option bonus date moving him later for Miles Garrett
00:39makes me think Cleveland is planning on trading him.
00:44That was an executive that told Mike Sando that.
00:48Now I think we all kind of were like, there were two things I think that folks around here were
00:53thinking of.
00:54Okay, so now they've restructured his contract, which made me think it might be a little bit easier to trade
01:01him there.
01:01And then they were all gung-ho about trying to change the rules so that you could trade draft picks
01:10from five years away,
01:11which made me kind of wonder if that wasn't the catalyst.
01:15Then, Tom, like over the last week, we heard from the owners' meetings that they're like,
01:19we're not trading him and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
01:22Adamant.
01:23Adamant.
01:23Like, I'm liking this.
01:26I'll tell you what, Andy.
01:26This reminds me of you're driving past Krispy Kreme Donuts.
01:30Oh, is the light on?
01:32The light is on.
01:33Hot donuts are available.
01:35So this, to me, and whether the Browns are doing this intentionally or not,
01:39Right.
01:40is a signal to the rest.
01:41It's the bat signal to the rest of the league that we're open for business.
01:47Come talk to us.
01:48The drive-through window is open.
01:50Make us an offer we can't refuse.
01:52I'm not saying that they're shopping him.
01:54They're not.
01:55But I think they're making it palatable, if that's the right word,
01:59for teams to come inquire and take a look at the menu.
02:04Take a look at what's on the rack.
02:07Now that you say that, I mean, Miles Garrett did not have.
02:12Does that make more sense?
02:13Yeah.
02:13And then, you know, a year ago when Miles wanted to be traded,
02:16he didn't have trouble talking to anybody, anytime, anywhere, right,
02:21about wanting to be traded.
02:22And then all of a sudden they figured it out.
02:24He said, we talked things out, figured this out, okay?
02:28I just wonder.
02:29I haven't heard anything from Miles in a while.
02:31No.
02:31No, and he was in.
02:32That's why.
02:33That's why I think it's also interesting that Miles is.
02:35Because, now, again, Miles doesn't have to talk to anybody right now.
02:38He doesn't really have any media responsibilities.
02:40Other than the body cam from the Ohio State Troopers,
02:42that's the last time we've heard from Miles, right?
02:44I'm sorry.
02:45That was kind of a shock.
02:46Wow.
02:47He has been quiet, though.
02:49He's been noticeably quiet here over the last.
02:51Did that count as a sack or no?
02:57You know, you do wonder, though, given, no, in seriousness, though,
03:01given his history, given the fact that he was adamant about being traded,
03:05right, to use that word in a different frame,
03:09you wonder what's going on behind the scenes, though, with him,
03:13knowing that this is a rebuild,
03:15knowing that, you know, that things are not looking great
03:18in terms of wins and losses in 2026, right?
03:22Yeah.
03:22That there's a long way to go here.
03:24That maybe he's...
03:25He wanted to know what the plan...
03:26Remember, when he was running up and down Radio Row...
03:28He was supposed to be brought in on the plan, right.
03:29He wanted to know what the plan was.
03:31What's the plan?
03:31What's the plan?
03:32What's the plan?
03:32I mean, if I'm Todd Munkin, I want him on the team.
03:36Right.
03:37Like, there's no question.
03:38You're not going to trade me anybody right now.
03:40Future picks that can't help me right now as a head coach by trading Miles Garrett.
03:46That doesn't help.
03:47But as his value has increased over the last year, right,
03:50and you have to say that it has, right, now being the sack king, right,
03:53the all-time leader for a single season in sacks,
03:57and, you know, the Max Crosby situation, you know,
04:00and then the Mika Parsons situation last year,
04:04and you saw what the Packers were able to get, you know,
04:07or had the Cowboys were able to get from the Packers,
04:09however you want to know, however that goes.
04:12Trade value is high for the guy.
04:14I mean, and if this team is in the rebuilding mode that it's in,
04:18they've got to consider it.
04:19And so, like I said, I think this is more a signal, Andy,
04:23that, you know, we're willing to talk.
04:25And I know that Browns are going to be, you know, effusive in that
04:29we're not going to trade our best player.
04:31We still think he's got five great years left,
04:33and we're going to build around him.
04:35But the clock is ticking.
04:37I think what's intriguing is to look at teams that have two first-round picks
04:42in this year's draft.
04:43So that's the Jets, the Cowboys, the Chiefs, and the Dolphins.
04:49And, you know, there always seems to be a little bit of smoke and fire
04:53because, you know, Miles with his Texas connection.
04:59If the Cowboys came at you, I mean, they've got their pick.
05:01They've got the Packers pick.
05:05It's going to continue to be here, unfortunately, for the Browns.
05:07Do you think Dallas would do it?
05:08First of all, and then –
05:09No, I don't.
05:09I don't.
05:10I think –
05:10And are you –
05:11To me, Kansas City would be a more likely place only because, you know,
05:15they know the window's starting to close with Mahomes and Kelsey, et cetera, et cetera.
05:18So their Super Bowl window is shutting.
05:21You know, it's going to – unfortunately for the Browns, Andy,
05:23it's going to continue to be a point of conversation.
05:25It's going to continue to be on the table until it's not.
05:29I mean, it's just the way it is, much like the quarterback situation now.
05:32It's unavoidable.
05:33And it's not necessarily that it's being driven internally here because it's not, right?
05:38It's always the outside narrative that fuels a lot of this,
05:42and that's just the way it is in Cleveland.
05:46It would be nice to hear from him.
05:48But maybe there's a reason we're not hearing from him.
05:50I think that's the point.
05:51Yeah.
05:53I'm also at the point now where I don't think fans would be –
05:56if the Browns got –
05:57whether you trust the front office or not with the picks,
06:01I just think if the Browns got like a really, really good deal for Myles Garrett,
06:05I think fans would be like, okay, I get it.
06:06I get it.
06:07I totally agree.
06:08And I think if you went out on the street and talked to fans about, you know,
06:11their druthers, they wanted him traded a year ago when this was really hot
06:16and before, you know, he ended up –
06:18I don't know.
06:19I think more so now after the –
06:22well, I don't know.
06:23Let me think about this for a second because, you know,
06:25when he was going up and down Radio Road talking about trade me, trade me,
06:29trade me, trade me, I think that, you know, if you're from Cleveland –
06:33It turned a lot of people off.
06:34Yeah.
06:34I mean, people are like, if you don't want to be here, we don't want you here.
06:37I don't care how good you are.
06:38And then he went out and performed, though.
06:40Yeah, that's the hard part.
06:41We had an unbelievable year.
06:42About two sacks in, we forgot about it, right?
06:44It's the same thing.
06:45It's like I say about Deshaun Watson.
06:47Deshaun Watson, if he's a starting quarterback and they start the season 4-0,
06:51no one's going to care what happened before.
06:53Of course not.
06:53No one's going to care that things went sideways.
06:55They are going to believe.
06:56They're going to start looking at the stats about teams that are 4-0 to start a season.
07:00Again, we don't know who they're going to play.
07:01We don't know any of that stuff.
07:01We don't even know if he's going to start.
07:03And it doesn't matter who the quarterback is.
07:06But in his case, the past has been so sideways that you don't think there's any way to correct it.
07:12But I'm telling you, if Deshaun Watson stepped out there, and I don't have any reason to believe this is
07:17true
07:17or that it's going to happen based on what we've seen over the last couple years,
07:20but if they came out of the gate 4-0, you'd be like, oh, I don't know.
07:24I don't remember anything that happened.
07:2627 lawsuits.
07:27I don't know.
07:28Did that really happen?
07:28I'd be fascinated to know who Mike Sandoz's source is here, who this executive is,
07:33and what kind of agenda might be behind trying to float something like this out there to stir the pot.
07:38But the funny thing that's come out of all of this, with Andrew Barry speaking,
07:42with Jimmy Haslam speaking, with Todd Munkin speaking,
07:44is that none of them have given an answer as to why they decided to push this back.
07:49Great point, Dan.
07:49And it's what they haven't said.
07:51It's what they haven't said.
07:52Every single, oh, my gosh, how dare you ask this.
07:54I don't even want to waste my breath on it.
07:56You know, they've all done that.
07:58Andrew Barry played that card.
08:00They've all done that, but none of them have looked the media directly in the eye
08:04when they said, why did you do this, and give a real answer.
08:07Andy, hot donuts.
08:10I think you're right, Tom.
08:12I 100% think your actions will always speak louder than your words.
