00:00This comes from BetMGM.
00:02The Sixers went to seven games versus the Celtics.
00:06The Knicks swept them.
00:07The Cavs went to seven games versus the Pistons.
00:10The Knicks swept them.
00:11The Spurs and Thunder are going to seven games.
00:15I will guarantee you right now that the finals will not go in the form of a sweep.
00:21Absolutely.
00:22Either way, yeah, I'll guarantee that as well.
00:25I'll co-sign that.
00:26Yeah, the West is much more impressive than the East when it comes to basketball this year.
00:32I think that's not really a secret, though.
00:34I think everybody kind of knew that going into it.
00:36Yeah, yeah.
00:39Speaking of the West, the AFC West, you were there yesterday,
00:43feet on the ground at One Arrowhead Drive for OTAs with the Kansas City Chiefs.
00:47You've got your notebook ready to go.
00:51You said that Chad O'Shea is the truth.
00:53You saw your tweet that went out yesterday that had plenty of engagements.
00:57Well done by you.
00:58As we saw, hands-on drills.
01:01As Mr. Wide Receiver Coach Chad O'Shea, I believe the word was hands up.
01:07Yeah.
01:08Got to have the hands up and ready to go.
01:10Mac, what did you see yesterday at the practice facility?
01:14Dude, yeah.
01:15Yeah, active hands.
01:16Yeah.
01:17It was so great to see a vocal, active coach.
01:21Because even last year, before Connor Embry became a conversation,
01:24before we started talking about positional coaches and where accountability is
01:27and all this stuff in the organization, I remember going to practice OTAs and stuff like that
01:32and looking specifically at the wide receivers.
01:34Because as you know, Dusty, where they put the media a lot of the time,
01:36it happens to be closer to those skill position guys.
01:38So you get to see those drills and those wide receivers a lot of the time close up.
01:42And I just remember thinking last year, a lot of the time, again,
01:45before we started having these conversations, like guys' hands in pants,
01:49not standing up straight, talking, dancing, not listening.
01:53It didn't seem like it was locked in.
01:56And that is not the way this is at all.
01:59It is intensity, screaming, asking questions,
02:05constantly information being pumped out, pouring into these guys.
02:10It was not lackadaisical.
02:11There was attention to detail.
02:13It was football, baby.
02:14It had me going.
02:15I was ready to run through a brick wall.
02:17Chad O'Shea is bringing it.
02:19And it's exactly what they brought me there, or brought him here.
02:22And it wanted me to get a helmet on.
02:25I was ready to put some pads on.
02:26It was fantastic seeing him work with those guys on little, little, little details.
02:34And again, it's stuff that I think the whole squad needs.
02:38And when you mentioned, you know, Rasheed Rice isn't getting this coaching,
02:40I think he's the one guy that could probably survive without it.
02:46But, yeah, Cyrus Allen, a lot of talk about him, fifth-round pick out of Cincinnati,
02:52finding out his role, whether that's going to be an X,
02:54whether that's going to be more of a Z, a slot guy.
02:57What is he going to play?
02:58What are they going to have him do?
02:59Well, Bailey Falter would hate that.
03:01Exactly.
03:02He's a spot-wide receiver.
03:04But, yeah, man, it was fun being there.
03:06It was really, really good.
03:07It was a good change of pace, it felt like.
03:10And it felt like the energy was high.
03:11It was up.
03:12And I love the consistency of all those guys when talking about,
03:15when being asked about last year, rather.
03:17The answer's pretty much the same.
03:19We've moved on.
03:21It's now looking forward, which is great.
03:22You cannot be lingering in the past and be remembering how bad last year fell
03:27and what went wrong.
03:28You've got to now look forward.
03:28This is a brand-new team.
03:29I mean, Bob brings it up all the time.
03:31I mean, a third of the roster, and in this case, maybe even more, has changed.
03:35You've got to now look forward.
03:36And this is a new team with a bunch of new coaches and new messaging.
03:38So I'm excited.
03:40This was Andy Reid on Chad O'Shea's presence being felt.
03:43Yeah, you notice it.
03:43Yeah.
03:47I think they love what they're doing.
03:48I think all of them.
03:49They love what they're doing.
03:51And they're not afraid to express that.
03:53The players feel it.
03:56I think that's healthy.
03:58And I think that discipline on offense is very, very important that you maintain that
04:09and incorporate that into the structure of what you're doing as far as running plays.
04:17So that's Andy Reid kind of giving you everything that you just said, you know, kind of accountable,
04:24being intense.
04:25And I thought the most intense thing that I saw was Eric Bien-Ami's presence on the field.
04:32Oh, yeah.
04:33And Mahomes and Trey Smith, obviously, we'll talk about it.
04:36This was Mahomes on the excitement of having EB back to this team.
04:40This is a standard that you have to practice with and you have to play with.
04:43And he's going to hold you to that standard no matter who you are from the first guy to
04:46the 90th guy right now.
04:48He's going to hold you to that standard.
04:49And I think that's something that it's hard to replicate.
04:52I think that's the best way to say it.
04:53And he has brought in a lot of concepts and a lot of things that I've really liked that
04:57we've added in now.
04:58And so I think it's good to kind of have him back in the building, having that energy back.
05:02A lot of these guys haven't had an EB.
05:04And so they understand it.
05:07But honestly, I think it's been cool.
05:09They're really receptive of it.
05:10And even though it's hard, I mean, there's hard days, they know why we're doing it.
05:15And I think it's kind of, you can see the guys and they want to be great and they want
05:18to be better than we were last year.
05:19And so we've had a good start to these OTAs and we just got to keep pushing through.
05:23And he's kind of alluding to, obviously, the intensity and the attention to detail that
05:29Eric Bidemi has.
05:31And I thought what he said yesterday as he continued on in his press conference about it,
05:34that in his meeting, he was ready to run through a brick wall, is what Mahomes said.
05:38And then he had also mentioned that they haven't really seen the real EB yet, which to me is
05:43a blessing in disguise.
05:44It's a good thing.
05:45Because what he had mentioned also in his press conference yesterday is that they're going
05:51to find out who he is when they get to St. Joe, when fatigue hits and they don't finish
05:56drills, you know, at 100 percent or they don't run through, you know, whatever drill they're
06:02doing.
06:02And then EB is going to be that guy to everybody.
06:07And I think maybe that's kind of what happened, like when they were so used to just being at
06:12the top and then it's like, oh, I get to be with Mahomes.
06:14I can, you know, he'll figure it out.
06:17There's no accountability.
06:17And when you said that about Eric Bidemi, that was the one thing that he kept bringing
06:20up, kept bringing up.
06:21And Trey Smith and Patrick Mahomes have worked with this man and others as well.
06:26Travis Kelsey, Creed Humphrey, I believe as well.
06:29But like the thing about Eric Bidemi that I think is great is that he has other pawns
06:36on the chessboard.
06:38They're going to live up to his message.
06:40And then those guys, you think about those names, Travis Kelsey, Patrick Mahomes, Trey Smith,
06:46Creed Humphrey, Chris Jones, those guys know.
06:49And so out of those guys that I just listed, those are your top leaders on this team.
06:56And when Eric Bidemi gets into their ass and they have to do it, everybody else is going
07:02to go, oh, he's talking like that to Mahomes?
07:06Exactly.
07:07I better get my, you know, what in gear.
07:09And I always look at that because I've had coaches in the past when I played in sports
07:13leagues that would always use the same example.
07:15Like, I mean, you know, at the end of practice, I'm like, man, you're really hard on me.
07:18And they'd be like, well, yeah, you know, you're one of my guys.
07:21Like, you have to, you know, and I'm not saying that I was a superstar, but I was a big
07:26part
07:26of teams that I played on.
07:27And they were like, you know, in practice, when Phil Jackson yells at Kobe or when Phil
07:32Jackson yells at Michael, they're going to be like, oh, that's Michael Jordan.
07:35He's yelling at like that.
07:36Like, he could do that to me as well.
07:38I better, you know, pay attention.
07:40So I think, I don't know if like roster reconstruction was the main point of the offseason to get
07:45this team back to where they need to be.
07:47I think the main point of this offseason was accountability.
07:50Like, you guys aren't at the top anymore.
07:52There's a different team the last two years that have hoisted that Lombardi trophy.
07:58I think the standard is still there for the Chiefs.
08:00You know, Vern says that for the Royals this year, this was the standard.
08:04And, you know, maybe the Royals need somebody like Eric Bannemi in that clubhouse.
08:08And, you know, you look at what this team has and what this team can do and what this team
08:12has accomplished.
08:13There's a reason why there's a lot of people, most people aren't as harsh on the Chiefs as
08:16they are in the Royals.
08:17We have seen this for a decade of greatness.
08:20We saw one year of, you know, putridness, which was 6-11 and Mahomes getting hurt and
08:25all this, you know, coming back after three straight Super Bowls and you fell fast and
08:30hard.
08:31And now you want to get back to that.
08:33And I think the way they got to get back to that is accountability with Chad O'Shea and
08:37Eric Bannemi and going and getting Ken Walker and guys like that.
08:41Toughness, tenaciousness, and accountability, I think, is what's going to get this team back to
08:46where they need to be.
08:46And it came through.
08:48I wrote that.
08:49My last note that I wrote down is this team has, in all caps, and I underlined it, professionals.
08:54That's what it felt like in the building there.
08:56It felt like it was work.
08:58It felt like we were working towards a common goal.
09:00It felt like everyone was on the same page.
09:04And that's exactly to your point because it's coming from the top down now.
09:09Everyone's seeing it.
09:10And talking about the young guys, Andy brought up that this rookie class is locked in.
09:15And Mahomes said they hadn't seen the real EB yet, these young guys.
09:17And that's a good thing because he hasn't had to bring it out.
09:20They've been locked in.
09:21They're listening after you say something once.
09:23And they're changing it, right?
09:25They're trying to get better.
09:27And that's huge.
09:28And Mahomes, just update on him, just talking checkpoints.
09:31That's really what it is.
09:32It's just checkpoints for him.
09:33So the next checkpoint is going to be running and cutting.
09:35So they're working their way up to that.
09:37He's running a little bit.
09:38Obviously, he hasn't been cutting or running that much.
09:41And each checkpoint is one or two weeks is what they want it to be.
09:45But also, you have to protect yourself first before you get to the running and cutting.
09:48So that's what he has to be able to do next is what they said.
09:51And obviously, we've talked about Julie and the rest of that training staff for a long time here.
09:57At nauseam over the injuries that Mahomes has had.
09:59And Julie and him have been side by side.
10:01But yeah, he's had a brace before.
10:03In college, he played with a brace.
10:04So he's used to that feeling.
10:06He's used to being able to move around.
10:08But a big thing that we will talk about more later on in the show, I believe, is how this
10:12actually could be a blessing in disguise to everyone's like, hey, you got to stop rolling out of the pocket
10:15so quickly.
10:16Mahomes brought that up and said, well, I actually feel like I have to stay in the pocket a little
10:20bit more now.
10:21I have to be able to diagnose the defense because I can't just run away.
10:24I can't just get away.
10:25So I actually think he's going to be able to forced to go back to 2022 Patrick Mahomes, which I
10:31believe was our most well-balanced and best offense that we've seen here, which might be a hot take.
10:36But I believe that because of his ability to pick apart a defense.
10:41And I think he's going to get back to that.
10:42And part of which is because of this injury.
10:45Yeah.
10:46And it also kind of, you know, domino effects to Chad O'Shea and the receivers.
10:50Hey, this guy is not immortal.
10:52Yeah.
10:52You have to get open.
10:54You got to do what you know.
10:55He can get you there, but you got to get there.
10:57If that makes any sort of sense.
10:59No, 100 percent.
11:00As OTAs wrapped up yesterday at One Arrowhead Drive.
