00:00It's funny, it's okay if you glaze the Chiefs and Royals, let's see, they're your PC, fair.
00:07PC or, well, personal collection, personal choice, whatever you want to call it.
00:16But, yeah, just fun to keep that one going along.
00:24I think it's interesting when you look at the Royals season so far, because the one thing I said I
00:30feared is that we would be watching for an individual accolade, right?
00:35Like, in 2009, everybody watched the Royals once every five days, it seemed like, because that's when Zach Greinke would
00:40pitch, and he was on his way to a Cy Young award.
00:43And I understand people will say that you can't win a Cy Young if your team, or you can't win
00:47an MVP if your team is bad.
00:49Whatever, you can, because when you bring that sort of thing up, then they want to switch over and say
00:55markets matter.
00:56And then you start talking out of two sides of your mouth, which is not the case, because when Otani
01:00won it for the Angels, they weren't good.
01:03Abreu for the White Sox won it during the COVID season.
01:06Yeah, they made the playoffs, but they played 60 games, and they gave him the MVP.
01:09He was a stud that year.
01:10Yeah, that one you kind of got to throw out.
01:13Right.
01:13Not enough to look at.
01:14And they were about 500 by 10 games.
01:17So, I think that when you look at it from a perspective, it's pouring on 70 and 635.
01:25Oh, I'm aware.
01:27It's pouring here, but apparently there's a mosquito dome around Shamrock Hills.
01:36But when you look at the MVP race, right, like Aaron Judge, I don't know if fatigue will ever set
01:42in.
01:43Maybe it doesn't.
01:44Um, but when you look at where the MVP race is in the American League, Bobby Wood Jr. is currently
01:53in second place at plus 310.
01:55It was plus 350 when I had that conversation two days ago.
02:00So, what's going down, Aaron Judge is at minus 130, still the leader in the clubhouse, but it's a three
02:06-man race as of right now.
02:07It's Aaron Judge, Bobby Wood Jr., Norton Alvarez, who had homered in three consecutive games for the Houston Astros.
02:13Um, and Aaron Judge and the Yankees, you know, sure, Aaron Judge, I think 17 home runs, he's hitting 255
02:21and all that sort of thing.
02:22But when you look at Bobby Wood Jr.'s numbers, even to me, it's more impressive that even with a team
02:29that is struggling like the Kansas City Royals,
02:31Bobby Wood Jr. is still day in and day out going out there and putting up MVP-type numbers.
02:38And when you look at his numbers this year, he's played in all 56 games.
02:42He's had 221 at-bats and 246 plate appearances.
02:45Average is 290 with no one hitting around him.
02:50To me, that's very impressive.
02:52Like, they could just not pitch to Bobby Wood Jr.
02:54And yet he's hitting 290 with a .354 OBP, a .484 slug, and an .838 OPS.
03:01He has 64 hits, nine home runs, 14 doubles, one triple.
03:06He also has 16 stolen bases.
03:10So Bobby Wood Jr., well on his way to possibly getting a .30-30 season, hitting .300, have an OPS
03:16of north of .900,
03:18have a slug of almost .500, and an OBB of almost .400.
03:24Those are MVP numbers.
03:26And if there was ever a year where he was going to be that guy, plus you look at his
03:32war, his wins above replacement,
03:34I believe he leads baseball, and he also plays gold-glove shortstop.
03:41Yordan Alvarez, solid player, not to the caliber of Bobby Wood Jr.
03:45Aaron Judge, great player.
03:47He's not Bobby Wood Jr.
03:48He's a powerful son of a gun, and he's very good at hitting the baseball.
03:53And he's still got a hose in the right field, as we saw on Tuesday night or Wednesday night,
03:58which I still don't disagree with him sending him home.
04:02Take a chance.
04:03You've lost so many games in a row.
04:04The Yankees have always taken advantage of you.
04:06Take a chance.
04:07Aaron Judge has to make a perfect throw.
04:10Yeah, which he does all the time.
04:11It just hurts when we've seen that send all year and have it not work.
04:16That's what I'll say.
04:17But I get you.
04:18It was close.
04:19I mean, it's like if you're a football team and you're 0-4 and it's 4th and 8th and you're
04:24on the 40-yard line,
04:25go for it.
04:26Do something.
04:27Right?
04:27Like, make something happen.
04:30So, and a lot of people will say, you know, trade Bobby Wood.
04:36Pump the brakes.
04:38You gave him that contract for a reason.
04:39You got five years on that contract to make something.
04:42Yeah, you got a long time.
04:42Let's chill on that.
04:44Yeah, that's a little panicky.
04:45That's panic button-y.
04:46And I think it would, I don't know, it would suck, but it would also be awesome.
04:54And it's a torn feeling that I have because you have everyone last year, which is so funny to me,
05:00everyone last year was so disappointed in the Chiefs.
05:02Right, Mac?
05:03And what was the number one point of anger?
05:08You cannot waste these opportunities with Patrick Mahomes and his youth.
05:12Yep.
05:12You cannot miss the playoffs with Patrick Mahomes in his age of 30.
05:17And now we're seeing Bobby Witt Jr. put up all of this.
05:23And not only, I don't know if fans are realizing it, but I think there are still people that are
05:28watching to see what Bobby can do.
05:30Like the other night when they lost 15-1 or whatever it was.
05:3317-1.
05:3415-1.
05:35Yep, 15-1.
05:36Bobby hit a home run to opposite field.
05:37Yep.
05:38And in his first at bat, he hit a ball 111 miles per hour to Ben Rice or whoever it
05:41was in left field.
05:43And I think that you can still find enjoyment from this because a lot of people in this town still
05:51remember that 2009 Royals year because of Zach Greenkey.
05:57Unfortunately, that's all you remember because that's all you had to watch.
06:01That shouldn't be the case with a guy like Bobby Witt Jr.
06:03So hopefully him having this year and doing this can wake up people in maybe the front office to be
06:10like, all right, we've done things with this team.
06:13Sign Lugo.
06:13Sign Vinny.
06:14Sign Sal.
06:15Sign Michael Garcia.
06:17We need to do more because we have an athlete who's staring down the barrel of a 22-34 record
06:22playing like they're 34-22.
06:25And he's doing this with no supporting cast as of now.
06:2826 years old.
06:29I mean, the guy hitting in front of him is hitting 260.
06:30The guy hitting behind him is hitting 199.
06:33I've never heard of him.
06:36BBL stinky.
06:38No, it's literally incredible what he's doing.
06:41It is a feat.
06:42It is all-time performances from Bobby Witt Jr.
06:45And it's poop around him.
06:47Stinky, stinky poop around him.
06:49Nothing to get you to want to watch other than Bobby Witt Jr. right now.
06:53Steven Kolak, another bright spot.
06:55He is pitching tonight.
06:55So you'll have the other bright spot on the mound.
06:58But, yeah, it's great.
07:00Like, listen, Bobby Witt Jr., will he have a chance?
07:01I would say the one big difference here, yeah, bad team going against him, that's tough.
07:06You can win on a bad team.
07:07Obviously, you mentioned Mike Trout.
07:08Shohei Otani was on a bad Angels team and won the MVP.
07:10So that you can overcome.
07:16But there wasn't Shohei Otani and Aaron Judge, or rather Aaron Judge, in the AL at that time.
07:21So that's what Bobby Witt Jr. is battling.
07:23He is Chris Jones at his prime, and, oh, sorry, there's Aaron Donald here.
07:27Like, that's part of what it is for Bobby Witt Jr.
07:29Oh, and your team sucks.
07:31So, like, yeah, he'll have a chance to win MVP, but I think it'll be another second-place finish at
07:35best for him because of this team.
07:37It's not going to be – he's going to have the numbers.
07:39He's going to have the numbers.
07:40But also, you're going to be battling another all-time player on a good team in a bigger market, a
07:47more talked-about market, a more talked-about player,
07:49the most talked-about player, probably the face of the league next to Shohei Otani.
07:52So, yeah, I mean, it's not going to get me to want to watch.
07:58Yeah.
08:00We'll see.
08:00And, again, to those of you that want to trade Bobby Witt Jr. now, no.
08:04But you need to go look at his contract because it could happen.
08:07He has an opt-out.
08:092031.
08:09If they don't improve this team by the time he's there.
08:12And in 2031, he'll be what?
08:14It'll be 30?
08:15Five years.
08:16Yeah, it'll be 31.
08:17So, if it continues for the next two years, then you can have that conversation.
08:23Then we talk about it.
08:23But you don't talk about trading him right now.
08:25You're just down bad.
08:26I understand that you have every reason to be.
08:28Yes.
08:28But, again, like, he will make sure he's not the next Mike Trout.
08:35Because I don't think anyone would be disappointed if they kept this sort of style up for the next three
08:40years.
08:41And then, all of a sudden, he was like, hey, I gave you eight years, nine years of everything I
08:46had.
08:47I never quit.
08:48I never gave up.
08:48I always tried.
08:50But it's not working here.
08:51Maybe it's time for me to move on.
08:52No one would be angry about that.
08:55So, again, maybe pump the brakes on trading him now.
08:59Yes, I understand it's frustrating to see nothing around him working.
09:01But it's also frustrating to just be like, ah, get rid of it.
09:04Screw it.
09:04Because it's not that time yet.
09:06You've got five years.
09:07You take a breath.
09:09Patience.
09:10Yeah.
09:11He's 26.
09:13For the people saying, well, you've got to do why the value is high.
09:15You've got to sell high.
09:16Bobby McJunior is going to be an amazing baseball player at 28.
09:18Yeah.
09:19Maybe even better.
09:20It's hard to imagine that.
09:21But it could be.
09:22Could be.
