00:00He does all kinds of baseball stuff, as we know, like crazy.
00:03Baseball Today on John Boy Media.
00:05And, of course, he's also with the NFL Network.
00:07And he joins us on a very regular basis.
00:10He's Mr. Chris Rose.
00:11Hello, Chris.
00:12Oh, Chris, you keep us regular.
00:14Wow.
00:15Thanks, man.
00:16I didn't say that.
00:17I did.
00:17I don't care.
00:18Well, we can only go up from here.
00:20That's true.
00:20We tried to flush it down.
00:22Wow.
00:23That's why we love you.
00:24Brimshot.
00:25Play along.
00:26That was beautiful.
00:27I appreciate that.
00:28But before we get to other such things, we just had a nice young guy on our show,
00:34Jacob Infante, from Pro Football and Sports Network.
00:37He has a three-round mockout.
00:39And he had Ty Simpson going at 44.
00:42And we were discussing, if he's on the board at 39, and you're the Browns,
00:49and you're Todd Munkin, and you have a great working knowledge of him,
00:52are you taking Ty Simpson in the second round if he happens to still be on the board?
00:59I don't think you'll have that opportunity.
01:02Okay.
01:02But if you do, yeah, I don't.
01:05I think that there's too many teams at the top, ahead of us at the second round,
01:12that might think about it.
01:14But if he is there, oh, I don't.
01:25I'm overwhelmed by your excitement on him.
01:29Yeah.
01:29I just, I don't know.
01:31I'm having a hard time getting excited about him.
01:34I just, I don't think so.
01:38That's what I think.
01:39Okay.
01:40I get it.
01:40You know, some people fell in love with him for the first seven or eight games last year,
01:44and then they said as his play deteriorated, things deteriorated around him.
01:49So, right, that's the hard thing about judging a quarterback.
01:55So, I don't think so, but I suppose I could be convincing in another direction.
02:04Here's where I sit with the second round quarterback.
02:08When you draft a guy in the second round,
02:11aren't you hoping that he becomes the franchise quarterback?
02:14Yes.
02:15You never draft a guy in the second round to say that, oh, yeah, I want a career backup.
02:22Like, third round, that's where it kind of gets interesting.
02:24It's usually guys who have played a long time in college and have starts,
02:30and you're like, yeah, I could see him being a backup,
02:32and if we need to put him in there for a month because of injury,
02:35we could maybe go two and two.
02:37Right?
02:37I think that's kind of the sweet spot for that philosophy.
02:40I've never understood the, well, let's take him at the top of the second round.
02:46It's usually because nobody felt like trading up for him at the end of the first.
02:50So, I don't know how people – that's how I see guys taking him the second round.
02:55Yeah, because you would think contractually you'd want to sneak him into that
02:58back end of the first round.
03:00That makes sense what you're saying.
03:01I also wonder that if Ty Simpson gets pushed up,
03:05will that push up Nussmeyer, Beck, Aller, those guys,
03:08will they end up getting pushed up too if he ends up going?
03:13Because it feels like there's this gigantic hole between Mendoza and Simpson
03:18and then Simpson and maybe Nussmeyer, Beck, Aller.
03:21You know what I'm saying?
03:25Yes.
03:26I do know what you're saying.
03:31I don't – once again, I would love to hear the different philosophies on decision makers
03:38about taking a quarterback in the second round, right?
03:41Because now there have been guys who have succeeded.
03:45You know, Derek Carr is a guy that was taken early in the second round,
03:48had a really solid career.
03:50Jalen Hurts has turned into what he has, a Super Bowl champion.
03:53Andy Dalton.
03:54Super Bowl MVP.
03:55Andy Dalton.
03:56And there's a guy – right.
03:57So those are guys who have had very successful tenures.
04:01There are also some other guys.
04:04Will Levis is probably about to be on another team.
04:08Kyle Trask.
04:09Kyle Trask was one of the throwing quarterbacks this year at the NFL scouting combine.
04:16He was a second-round pick of the Buccaneers.
04:20So, I don't know.
04:21I don't know.
04:22With a team that, once again, has as many holes, I don't know if you want to throw darts at
04:27the board,
04:27hoping that that happens.
04:30It's a fascinating situation.
04:32It'll come down to what Todd Munkin thinks about things, maybe, and if he can convince Andrew Barry if he
04:38thinks he's the right guy.
04:39Owner's meetings happened.
04:41The big swing and a miss comment from a year ago kind of walked back a little bit.
04:48You read what into that?
04:51That the situation has changed.
04:56I mean, you can't put the toothpaste back in there.
05:00I mean, we all heard it.
05:01But the reality is that he is on the roster for financial reasons, and he might be the best option.
05:11Those are all accurate statements.
05:20And, you know, I didn't quite get the extension line, but I think we just deal with the here and
05:28now,
05:29which is Shadour showed glimpses in his seven starts last year.
05:36The offense looked better when he participated in it, and he still might not be the answer.
05:42And he still might not be the best quarterback on this roster.
05:45So, you know, I thought Todd Munkin was very honest yesterday with his diatribe about splitting up reps.
05:54And I appreciated his candor there.
05:57And I think he really doesn't know how it's going to all unfold when we get on the field in
06:05May or what have you.
06:08I'll switch gears to baseball for you.
06:09Did you go over to the games?
06:11Guardians hit?
06:12I went on Monday, and actually we ended up doing a new segment that is going to air with Hedges
06:18and Kwan for dugout discussions next week.
06:22That I think those guys, like I couldn't have picked two better guys to do a new segment with that
06:28I think is going to be a lot of fun throughout baseball.
06:32Tease us a little and let us know what it's about, or is it just?
06:35Yeah, it's, it's, I brought a pair of whiteboards for them to answer questions at the same time about teammates.
06:44Oh, fun.
06:45And it, yeah, it was, the guys were great.
06:49What have you thought of the start of your hometown team there?
06:52Wait, tonight they're on schedule to score six runs, just so you know that.
06:55Tomorrow, none.
06:58Maybe, maybe you didn't pay attention to who's pitching for the other team.
07:01I didn't, yeah, you know what, I was just looking at the up and downs.
07:04Sorry, 0-6, 0-6.
07:06Yeah, yeah, you're probably right, so.
07:08I don't just, I, it's, I'm okay with it.
07:11You know, like, this is not a, it's a, you got three wins on a road trip to start the
07:14season, and, you know, Delauder's been fun, other than the fact he got hurt again last night.
07:20But, I, it's been, I'm, I'm interested, and it's fun, especially for a team that didn't do a whole lot
07:25during the offseason.
07:27Well, I don't know how you guys felt, but as we were watching that, at bat of Delauder, and it
07:33happened, there was probably a collective four-letter F word, and I'm not talking fans, that got screamed out by
07:42every Guardians fan.
07:43And, as I was deciding whether or not to tweet, why did Chase Delauder get Zadrunas' feet, you know?
07:53So, I mean, I don't know if you noticed, he fouled the ball right off his foot the previous night,
07:58too.
07:58Right foot, left foot, he got them both.
08:01Yeah, it's just, like, enough already.
08:03But, right, our first three series, you're going against three teams that finished in the top eight last year, including
08:13two in the top four and one that won it all.
08:17Yeah, I'll take, I mean, I'll even take three and four on this road trip.
08:21It'd be fine.
08:22Guys, the offense is, it's tough.
08:27I mean, there's no way around it.
08:29If Pazana's not up by mid-May, you're going to have people pulling their hair out, and it should be.
08:34Like, young guys, I don't know if you've paid attention to what's going on here the first week, but young
08:39guys are ruling the league right now.
08:42And this isn't, when we grew up, hell, it isn't even 15 years ago when we were like, well, we
08:49can't bring that guy up because he doesn't have enough minor league at bat.
08:53Screw that stuff.
08:54Go pull up the 2024 draft and go look at the number of guys who are not only on active
09:01rosters at the major league level, but are key contributors for their team.
09:06Go look at it.
09:07Preach!
09:08So, Travis Pazana's got to be up here.
09:12Brian Rocchio's got to go back to short.
09:14And Gabriel Arias has got to go back to learning what a strike zone is.
09:18So, that's the way it's got to be.
09:21If you're going to nickel and dime your organization, why should C.J. Capus be getting at bats up here,
09:28but Travis Pazana shouldn't?
09:29It's like they want to talk out of both sides of their mouth, and it's not fair to do to
09:34the players on this team and to do to the fan base, in my opinion.
09:38Drop the mic.
09:39Best take ever.
09:40Thank you, Chris.
09:41The best ever.
09:42Oh, the best one ever?
09:43Well, I got to tell you, because I've been screaming along with that.
09:45You've had so many.
09:46Chris, you said everything that I was thinking.
09:48Like, everything that I've been kind of preaching, talking a little bit about.
09:51Like, I was ready to see Travis Pazana come right out of camp.
09:54Right out of camp.
09:55I can understand why they held him back a little, but I'm telling you, by the end of the month,
09:59I want to see him here.
10:00And that's being generous, I think.
10:03Yeah, and look, the stipulations on service time have changed in recent years.
10:12If your player, even after, if he comes, I think it's April 8th or 9th, is when it becomes, like,
10:21a full service year for these guys, because they have to be up 172 days, I want to say.
10:26Okay.
10:26And if that's your worry, that we're going to cost ourselves a year of service time with a guy, he
10:34can still get a full year of service time if he finishes first or second in rookie of the year
10:38voting.
10:39But because you didn't have him on your opening day roster, you don't get the bonus pick.
10:46Like, the Pirates pulled this BS a couple years ago with Paul Skeens.
10:51Remember, he didn't start the year up here?
10:53The Pirates still ended up winning rookie of the year in 2024.
10:57He got the full year of service time, but the Pirates did not get the first-round pick that came
11:04attached with it when your guy wins rookie of the year or finishes second because he was not on the
11:10opening day roster.
11:11So they were trying to play that game.
11:12They got stung, and he still got his year of service time.
11:16Love it.
11:18I love the idea.
11:20I'm assuming when they think he's ready, Chris, he'll be up here.
11:24Guys, he's ready right now.
11:27Three weeks' worth of at-bats is not going to change whether or not Travis Bazzana is going to eventually
11:32be a successful major leaguer.
11:34It's just not.
11:35So I don't know if it's strictly the service time thing.
11:39I don't know if they're trying to work for a behind-the-scenes extension.
11:42I don't know if you guys have paid attention to this, but in the previous two days, Seattle signed their
11:4820-year-old future shortstop to a $95 million contract.
11:52Yeah, he's from Ohio.
11:55Right?
11:55Yeah, Cole Emerson.
11:57And then Milwaukee did it with their presumably shortstop of the future as well.
12:03They gave him a $51 million extension.
12:05He's barely played above AA.
12:08So teams are doing this stuff.
12:10It would make sense for the Guardians to do it with Travis Bazzana.
12:15The louder, I understand the injury worry there, but with Bazzana, it makes sense.
12:20If you really think, if you wanted to go make him the first pick and you believe in him, give
12:25the fans a reason to go buy a jersey other than Jose Ramirez's.
12:30Ladies and gentlemen, Chris Rose.
12:33New American Gladiators trailer out now.
12:35Where can people see it?
12:38On my social media, I'm at ChrisRose on Twitter.
12:41I put it out yesterday on my Instagram as well, CRose127.
12:45Coming out two weeks from Friday, we released the first several episodes.

13:01Awesome.
13:01Thanks, buddy.
13:02We appreciate your time as always.
13:03Well done.
13:04Best phone call ever.

13:08You've had some good ones, too.
13:10Never before have Shaker Heights and Cleveland Heights been united as one in one thought.
13:16All right, boys.
13:17Chris, joining us on the Make It Right Call, Kyle Wright Hotline.
