00:13at this point but if I like that gives you some some hope you would think because uh maybe just
00:18maybe the way that we talked about Andrew Barry that he was all lip service maybe just maybe the
00:22lip service that's happening is what's happening with Jimmy Haslam although uh this doesn't this
00:27doesn't feel like that to me Daryl it doesn't and that's why I am so despondent over it yeah they
00:33really are going to make us watch Deshaun Watson play football it's like he's trying to reverse
00:38course off of calling it such a massive failure already and it was and it was and he admitted it
00:44he called it the fight was over okay he was it was done right and everyone was forgave and moved
00:49on
00:49and now they're give but we moved on well as best we could right and now they're just digging up
00:55the
00:55corpse again well it's like that uh it's like the meme of the the wrestler that like kind of just
01:00pops up from the grave the undertaker yeah it just like just pops up and it's like I I hold
01:04on this
01:05is really where we're going this is and I think that's what signaled for a lot of people is that
01:09this is this is this is really where we're going if you had any doubts on it it feels like

01:13Haslam speaking today not only gave life to the situation but uh really gave as he called it
01:20a great chance and a fresh start with head coach Todd Munkin uh I so play it out for me
01:28tell me how
01:28you think this is going to go down well I do think because of because of Deshaun's experience he's going
01:35to look better in practice than Shador does okay yeah he's good at practice he's a practice field
01:39all-american well he's he's good at practice when another team isn't on the field um but that is a
01:48given but when it gets real in the regular season I just expect a train wreck because that's what it's
01:58been and then we're going to sit here and I I already I already know how it's going to go

02:04week one and Deshaun plays like you know what fans are going to be upset and frustrated and all that
02:10we're just going to see well you know only played 19 games in six years you know it's going to
02:14take a
02:15little time to knock off all that rust and get the get the game speed back that's the problem you
02:19don't get you don't get to knock off any rust if you're going to beat out Shador Sanders and
02:23they're going to try to tell you with serious Ernst that you beat out Shador in this competition
02:27there's no rust factor I know you don't get three games to kind of lazy river this whole entire thing
02:33and walk into the season ready to go week four like you have to hit the ground running if they
02:37whatever quarterback they sell you as the winner has to be the goods from the jump you don't get to
02:43do
02:43this three weeks into it well I had to get the rust off you have not acceptable to me you're
02:48preaching to the choir here you ask me how it's going to play out I'm telling you how it's going
02:51to play out pissed if that's how that plays out that it's exactly how it's going to play out and
02:56just like last year with Joe Flacco they're going to get five games deep be one and four I don't

03:01maybe the football gods smile upon them and they're two and three after five games I don't know but
03:07like and and then they're going to decide okay let's go ahead and play Shador Deshaun is not going to

03:13our future it's just so stupid because I think anyone with half of a brain can tell that what
03:17you're saying is probably right but like the idea that why do we have to do the five games to
03:21get
03:21there like why do you have to even see the five games to know what's going to happen with Deshaun
03:26Watson we don't have to do this song and dance give the ball to Shador week one give the guy
03:31with
03:32the most upside and a chance an actual chance you know you have to do this with Deshaun there's no
03:37there's nothing happening at the end of the rainbow with Deshaun there's no there's nothing good
03:41that is going to come from that and so I give it to Shador and if Shador sucks then fine

03:46we find that answer out I already know the answer with Deshaun right and and I'm sorry I can't fight
03:51with you on this because we see this one eye to eye like I just they're going to make us
03:57suffer
03:57through Deshaun Watson again they're going to do this to you again Browns fan okay this is what this
04:03this is what this organization's going to do to you as a fan while also at the same time saying
04:09oh by the
04:10way hey can we have thousands of dollars for some PSLs in Brook Park uh but we promise Deshaun will
04:16not be playing in Brook Park well all right so here's a good thing for myself uh because I want
04:20to see Shador win this whole thing out I thought whatever quarterback was going against Shador there
04:24was going to be some pushback this should be like the globetrotters versus the generals though as far
04:28as rooting interest like this should be a pretty easy one for a lot of fans to root for Shador
04:33and
04:33Shador's wearing two again I had the game his number back like all of a sudden things are starting
04:38to materialize in a nice way the only problem I have and and I voiced this a little bit in
04:43in the
04:43when we first started talking about this I don't want to feel like the quarterback competition is a
04:48rigged contest I don't want to feel like it's got the legitimacy of a carnival game okay like I don't
04:54I don't honestly I don't think it's going to be well but if you think about it you can already
04:59call
04:59out what Deshaun Watson's going to do for those first five games of the season and how that's going to
05:03down if the Browns aren't trying to win all they can do is put the players out there right right
05:07but
05:08if the Browns are trying for 2027 and not 2026 who am I to think they're above the idea that
05:13they put
05:14Deshaun Watson out there because they know he's going to stink and they know what 2026 is going
05:18to give them uh and and in the meanwhile it's almost like he's the perfect quarterback for this
05:23because it'll look good in practice and he's going to look the part of practice and so you can
05:28justify it it's going to invoke enough optimism there and there's going to be something that they can
05:32latch on to and there's enough national Muppets out there that are going to tell you that yeah
05:37Sean's better than Shador of course Deshaun's better than Shador there might be some local
05:41Muppets willing to do that too but it's going to let him off the hook in a way that I
05:44don't feel
05:45comfortable about in the meanwhile not giving Shador a serious a chance at the opportunity either
05:49and so like that's where this becomes a little frustrating for myself well that that's why last
05:53year was so frustrating when they wasted everybody's time with a four-man quarterback competition
05:58that they said publicly but privately was only a three-man they basically settled for Joe Flacco as
06:07the winner of said competition and I'm putting the competition in air quotes because that's what
06:12it felt like right Kenny Picken you know got hurt um so I I just I think that Deshaun is
06:20going to
06:20win it and I'm going to put the win in the air quotes too he's going to win the competition
06:24he's
06:24going to start week one but he'll be on the bench by mid-October yeah and if we already know
06:29that
06:29and then like I'm telling you this is this is all part of their deal if they want 2027 in
06:33that draft
06:33this is their way of looking like they're trying and doing the part and and in the meanwhile not
06:39taking 2026 serious at all you know what they see this is the the problem that the Browns are in
06:47right now or the challenge however you want to phrase it okay yeah you've got a really good defense
06:53defense okay like that is a legitimate contender defense that you have your offense is expansion
07:01level and by expansion level number one not a compliment but two I'm also being very generous
07:06and calling it expansion level it's that bad it's embarrassing it's unwatchable okay that you get you
07:13got to burn that thing down to the studs and start from the ground up outside of maybe two or
07:18three
07:18players Harold Fannin Jr. Quinn Sean Judkins oh yeah I'll throw Dylan Sampson in there he showed a
07:24little something something last year so okay fine you got maybe three players there all right and now
07:31you have this misalignment in your team building process really good defense historically terrible
07:37offense and it's not getting any better anytime soon you have a player that you have promised you're
07:44trying to win your face your franchise right Miles Garrett you've promised him we're trying to win
07:48we are not tanking we are not in a rebuild which by the way you've been in a rebuild the
07:53last couple
07:53of years you have you just refuse to call it that and that's what frustrates me is you're not willing
07:59to call it what it is okay you didn't win eight games because you had all these great players on
08:04offense that just magically underperformed because Kevin Stefanski is the worst offensive head coach in
08:10NFL history because of that we know that they won't ever just come out and tell you what it is
08:13right and
08:13that's what bothers me that's what bothers me and so what they should have done last year
08:19hindsight being 2020 they should have traded Miles Garrett last year said fine we'll find you a new
08:24home we'll take all the draft picks for you right and actually started the whole thing and reset and
08:30said you know and then you say to your fans listen we know it hasn't been great under us we
08:35we got to
08:36the playoffs twice we didn't have the sustained success that we promised you the last time we did this
08:41but you know what we're making this multi-billion dollar investment in a brand new stadium in
08:47brook park for you we're we are we want to go into that new building ready to be uh the
08:55pride of the
08:55NFL on and off the field and so to do that we have to make some hard decisions as an
09:00organization
09:01we have to look to the future we trust the people here uh Andrew Barry Todd Munkin we trust them
09:07to
09:07lead us there so this is what we're going to do that's what I wish they would have done and
09:11I wish
09:12they would do because at this point like I love Miles Garrett great player once in a generation best
09:18defensive player I've seen with my four eyes in person ever okay uh he'll be the great he's the
09:24greatest defensive player I think in Brown's franchise history but you know what you aren't
09:30winning anything with him you've won nothing with him and that's the shame of it like you've won
09:37and you've blown this defense that you put together you've blown the runway there so why can't you just
09:42be honest with us all and say you know what we blew it we tried it didn't work the Deshaun
09:49thing I
09:49don't know why they won't do that like I to me that's the easiest thing I don't know why they
09:53won't
09:53just maybe because they think they I are they still trying to drum up interest for 2026 is that the
09:58hope that they have I I don't understand it because Deshaun is not that Deshaun doesn't give you any of
10:02that how Shador for 17 games probably gives you way more interest than Deshaun does right and and
10:07you'll be talked about more I will say here's here was the alarming thing about the Shador thing last
10:12year what's that and it had nothing to do with Shador okay I want to make that very very clear
10:16this isn't about Shador yeah but he very popular he's got his very loyal fans right and so you're
10:22sitting there thinking hey it's that time of year Browns fans are getting rid of the tickets all that
10:26kind of thing I was honestly surprised how empty the stadium was for his uh starting debut yeah I
10:34think that's because the I think the fans knew like the Shador fans knew what was going on I I
10:38understand
10:39that yeah I'm just saying I was very surprised because of how popular he is I thought for sure
10:45there was going to be a a market for people wanting to be there for his first NFL start that
10:52that's my
10:52point and then in subsequent weeks it was still empty and I understand what you're saying they
10:57were where they were in the season the team was what it was you stop buying tickets when the game
11:01is rigged I mean you know what I mean like you think you think uh it's a it's a carny
11:04game analogy
11:05all over again right you know the season is where it is and all that but I just I was
11:09surprised
11:10by that and maybe that is something that the Browns should take heed to because for me that was a
11:16layup I would I mean I admit I think I was making the jokes with you and Nick well and
11:20hey you know what
11:21you want to get some butts in the seats just go ahead and play Shador fans will show up to
11:24at
11:24least watch that because it's at least going to be entertaining it'll be a box of chocolates we
11:28don't know what we're going to get we don't know if we're getting a 50-yard pass or we're getting
11:31a
11:3140-yard sack it was entertaining we watched all those games I had much more interest in watching
11:35those games than let's say the Dylan Gabriel games you and me both I mean that wasn't even a
11:39question and I have more interest in watching Shador Sanders play football this fall whether he's good
11:43or he's bad or he's I think he's going to be a mixture of both I mean I've I've heard
11:47I've heard
11:48at least you find out that's that's what the whole goal in this is to find out there's nothing I'm
11:52finding out with Deshaun Watts right that that's my point like at least with Shador you can sell a
11:57little hope a little curiosity a little something with Deshaun like what's the best outcome what
12:03you're going to commit more years and dollars to this guy really it's insane and now we'll play
12:10the Andrew Barry audio later on in the show about what he had to say yesterday in regards to that
12:13it's
12:14it's insane and so that that kind of brings us to the idea of like if there's a if Haslam's
12:19trying
12:19to turn this into a quote-unquote home run or whatever he thinks it's going to be from an
12:23absolute disaster uh into a grand slam uh okay what does that even look like like is that is Deshaun
12:30just gonna is a grand slam is that Deshaun turning into the guy we've only seen one time in his
12:35entire
12:36NFL career it's one season by the way is it wrong for me to just remind people for the millionth
12:40time
12:41the year that Deshaun Watson led the NFL in passing the Texans won four games that year right they did
12:46yeah and he had a lot of garbage time yards late because they were playing every Texans fan I know
12:52and every person I lived in Houston and so I know a lot of like Texans broadcasters and such right
12:56that's one thing they kept bringing up was like that was a lot of garbage time I wasn't I wasn't
13:00it was definitely padded in his favor it wasn't like Tom Brady Aaron Rodgers you know when you look at
13:06the other three years that he's had he doesn't have the same 4800 yards and uh 33 touchdowns and
13:12everything else that he had and I'm supposed to sit here and sell fans on the fact oh yeah Deshaun
13:15Watson coming back from back-to-back Achilles tears uh time off from a shoulder injury to time off
13:22from a suspension basically the last six years off playing lengthy meaningful football this guy's
13:30gonna come back and look like the player you gave 230 million fully guaranteed to he's gonna look
13:35elite I first of all it's not fair to Deshaun to set the bar expectations there that's number one
13:40that is not fair to Deshaun okay that again it's I'm not really interested in fair to Deshaun anyway
13:45I get but I am I I if for my argument I want to be fair about it okay I'll
13:50pass um but also too
13:53it's not realistic it's it's it's it's completely unrealistic that this guy's gonna come back after
14:00only playing nine games in six years and he's gonna look like a franchise quarterback that this
14:06organization is even going to contemplate uh recommitting to I still can't believe those
14:11words came out of Andrew Barry's mouth yesterday
